Currently thinking about how THICK landos neck is omg it’s just perfection the things I want to do to it

Imagine giving bsf lando a massage after a little shunt on the track and he’s letting out the unholiest of sounds which have you literally squirming and trying not to whimper and keep your cool yourself

Maybe one evening you’re just a bit sad and down and he pulls you onto his lap to reassure and snuggle you and wow your face just slots right into his neck and you’re just nuzzling into him whilst you get it together with lots of supportive whispers and back tickles encouraging you

One night you guys are hitting the club as a big group and pair off to do shots as a funny challenge or something which max f thinks is a brill idea, someone puts salt on his neck for you to lick off and the lime is in his mouth. With all the alcohol in his system he’s loosened up with way less filter, ending up panting and groaning as you lick his neck and then into his mouth and the EYE contact you guys have as he then has to lick the salt off your chest because EVERYONE knows that you guys are crazy about eachother but the two of you so they’re doing everything they can short of pushing you guys into eachother

Continuing with bsf or maybe even fwb lando imagine being in his lap for something like doing his brows or an innocent reason but all of a sudden there’s a massive shift and one of you finally has the guts to make a move. You’re gripping his neck to steady yourself because wow that first kiss makes you feel dizzy and can’t help yourself when you pull back for air he’s rambling that he hopes that was ok and there’s no expectation blah blah blah blah but you just can’t stop looking at his neck and you just HAVE to kiss it suck it bite it squeeze it (bop it lol) and he is squirming and almost gets too much when you find his sweet spot and he’s gripping your hips and whimpering about how good it feels and how sensitive he is there and to please not stop omg maybe cums in his pants(I love that piece you wrote with that happening omg truly my fav concept)

This man’s neck and hands are literally on my brain 24/7 I really can’t cope hope it’s ok that I’m sharing so others may now suffer lol. I can’t decide what kind of kisser I think he’d be in general?

@nokmietarchive So. Your design was too cool not to. Also Shelldon redesign. He's a computer now. Poor guy. Your sketches were SO exciting, and well, I wasn't sure what the shell would look like fully rendered, but I wanted to give it a go, because It's such a unique concept! It reminded me of how some gamer PC towers have these screens that let you see the inside of the machinery.

Unrelated; I realized I went on a rant past this point, so. Read for more if you're interested in that. Boo-yah.

Okay SO. The way I took it as I was re-drawing it, this particular shell is more focused on its technological abilities, as well as how it doubles as a Super Genius Fix-It Kit, and less of a Battle/Protective Shell. I wasn't really thinking about that when I was doodling the big picture. Btw, sorry if I kind of?? took the idea off your hands?? Brainstorming has no chains of its own,,,but if you're not cool with it, say so. I'll keep my lil' hands to myself. Probably. Maybe. Hopefully. But in the MEANTIME--I was imagining Donnie as this--like, the way he survives or gains the food on the table--It has more to do with how he can fix anything, right? He isn't picky about what he's asked to repair, so people of different standings can call him up. He'll be there. He charges almost nothing to those who don't have much and asks triple to the rich guys, so it all balances out. (He'll know if you're lying about your economic status. Fuck up once and that's on you.)

The thing is that his work is good. Very good. And fast. Those who can afford it know that he'll do a far better job than whoever else is on the market, so at the end of the day, he gets his pay. He probably also does underground work too, which works great for his dubious morality, but you know. Mostly to play Big Shot for fools for the right amount. Which can be straight up for free depending on who's on the other edge of the hammer. Lol. Now that the rant is over, I'd love to hear about anything and everything you'd have to say about these ideas of yours. If you want.

Both Sir Handel and Peter Sam have 2 designs, one for MSR (left) and one for SR (right)

No canon height once again, but Stuart is intended to be taller than Falcon and both are intended to have grown taller

MSR:

The numbers are sewn onto Falcon and Stuart's lapels. I hc their MSR numbers as: Duke no.1, Smudger/Stanley no.2 (both were withdrawn at different times, so they share the same number), then Falcon and Stuart with the same numbers as SR

Falcon's nameplate is supposed to have the same bronze/gold colour as his number, but I realized it would just be impossible to read on the red, so I chose a more yellow colour lol

Falcon's clothes are a bit fancier than Stuart...or maybe it's better to say that Stuart's uniform is less formal than Falcon's. Coming out of the first world war aside, Falcon's builders were much more established than Stuart's, and Stuart's builders were better known for "off-the-shelf" standard designs

Background aside, Falcon is also just more pretentious than Stuart, so I think this suits them

Their hair designs are supposed to be a similar length...this becomes relevant when I explain their SR designs

Also the doodle of them in the middle are supposed to be them being sold off to the Sodor Aluminum Company! One of them has to appear brave after all<3

Both outfits were sourced from this particular article, this website also had a lot of info on historical fashion (i'm gonna be so upset if they turn out to be inaccurate)

First things first, yes Sir Handel is wearing his old nameplate as a dog tag. The colours have faded, and the paint is chipping...but some things you can't ever let go.

Sir Handel is supposed to be wearing a leather jacket but I can't render for shit. His look is heavily inspired by 50's greasers. At first I just thought huh Sir Handel would absolutely wear a leather jacket he's such an asshole.

But then I read this and...the original greaser subculture was started by working-class social outcasts, often WWII veterans, who felt estranged and unable to fit in with post-war culture in the 40s. Youth in the 50s who felt frustration at various types of social ostracism also adopted a similar culture as a form of rebellion.

In comes Sir Handel...freshly traumatized from almost being scraped at Peel Godred, still trying to process his grief over losing Duke and the MSR, and now being bought for cheap to work on what seemed like an even cheaper railway with cattle cars as coaches...combined with his personality, there isn't a world where he would sit quietly and just take what was being handed to him.

Peter Sam, on the other hand, took the change much better than Sir Handel. His outfit is a combination of casual and preppy: casual because of his personality, and preppy because I think he just would.

So hair length! Both grew out their bangs, but Peter Sam kept the rest of his hair short, and Sir Handel grew his hair out (not too much though). In a sense, they'd grown apart since being bought by the SR, and dwelling on the past is often a bad thing. For Peter Sam, having shorter hair means easier maintenance, which means better for work. For Sir Handel, he doesn't want to lose what he has remaining from the MSR, and it's a part of his rebellion.

I also HC the time of their purchase to be the height of the SR's loosening of regulations, thus the lack of formal clothing. Maybe one day I'll design official suits/uniforms for the SR engines who knows.

Not to emulate a whole artstyle but I it's good to take little parts from different ones and translate it into your own (which honestly I should start doing again bc I'm getting stuck lately)

@/manny.oe (insta) is probably my favourite artists, he changes artsyles whenewher he feels like it but he is a professional and does visual dev work, he does so mych aauuh so much to kearn from him, I used to get inspired by the way he shades and picks colors, he also posts a lot of figure drawing sketches on stories that I try to just copy lolol (but these are the kind of studies you copy and never post)

@/ahmedaldoori_art (insta) when you look up his profile you see a lot of sketches and unfinished stuff but when you find his fully rendered pieces RAHHH THATSS how I want to render, very soft(?) rendering that I like

There is also someone from tumblr aaand from avatar fandom @/allgremlinart and they're my lineart goals (the line weight! yes!)....ok and rendering goals too..... They also have a side blog where they post their original art and yeeea good stuff good stuff

So hmmmm mmm m I'm not sure? It really depends on the person but the writing isn't that good, I was personally drawn by the characters and concepts (and the whole idea how witchers work is fun to me) (also I've read them in highschool so)

Some scenes can be kinda weird, it was after all written by a silly old polish guy

First two books- The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are more of short stories and they're probably the best, after them the tone changes a little and the main plot begins (if I remeber it correctly)

I've read them in polish but I've heard some opinions that the writing in translations can be worse than original

But you already know I loooove legend of Korra, that is an art of taking good characters and concepts form stuff with questionable writing (but legend of korra is justified and forgiven by circumstances the writers struggled with (((and by me)))))))

But honestly that's up to you, I'd say you should try something else for your first time, you can look for other opinions too

Let's rewind a little further. You seemed like you rushed into that, huh? A lot happened and it's only fair to help you remember. Who knows, maybe you can even prevent all of this from happening to start with!.. Right? Well, so much for happy thoughts and all that positive bullshit. I know you remember that tape and how it got into your hands, sn average college kid working a dead end part time job. You probably also remember the technicolor clown that's taken residency in your apartment, or moreover what's left in that skull of yours. I know it's not much after the waterworks of emotion, but nobody thought you were gonna start having hallucinations. Actually, hold that thought: hallucinations wasn't the right term. Not after you discovered he can,, cook? And interact with everything as though he were real. (Now this was some Ghost Adventures type shit.)

You most definitely remember before that, how Ian had metaphorically stabbed you in the back by cheating. You couldn't get off the couch for almost two weeks- you almost got fired for that one, had it not been for how understaffed Popov's is & how reliable you were. You really did lose yourself there for those few months. Even if you weren't spending your time stuck to that spot on your couch, you didn't really bother getting out of bed on your off days either. Though at least Shaun did his best to console you there wasn't much he could do from a few states away. And lord knows you didn't have the heart or the energy to beg him to pause any of his film projects just to fly over for a hug: Especially not after he just began going somewhere with his career. Meanwhile you were still major hopping. You never really did know what what wanted your degree to be for..

Jack seemed to appear right at the right time, albeit irregardless of how irritable and frustrated you were with his refusal to let you collect dust while you moped about.

"Come on now, Sunshine- the day is still young, and there's all kinds of fun things you can do!" The positivity made you gag at first. Who could blame you, after all? Anything life could throw at you, it did- and if you could feel the metaphorical blows you'd probably even be hospitalized. There were a few days where Jack would pull the curtains open to wake you up, sit at your bedside with a plethora of dad jokes until you had to roll out in order to escape, even once pulling you up and helping you to the kitchen for a simple glass of water. "No matter how you're feeling, it's always important to remember to stay hydrated. Have a drink, sunshine!"

Though, there were those early days where a notification or missed call from Ian would render you paralyzed and seeking refuge in the comfort of your covers, hiding from the reality delivered by the metallic rectangle on your night stand. Those days, Jack sat next to you with a hand to your back. He at one point even held you while you choked back sobs of frustration and despair. Later on he made you some soup to help keep you nourished. It was chicken noodle- you can never go wrong with chicken noodle soup (lol). Jack was patient and quiet with you, and that night he laid next to you so you could get a decent amount of sleep.. That day, you didn't do much. "It's going to be okay.. I know you may feel like the sky is falling down right now, but this just means that the worst is already over. You're on your way to better days. You get some sleep, sunshine, and I promise I'll be right here when you wake up."

Ever since then, you've been more open and more relaxed with Jack. He didn't seem like a strange hallucination sent to torment you with overpositivity and overused puns, but he seemed a lot more understanding than you had initially painted him to be. And you know, maybe you could use a new friend.

And that's about it for today's little display of my earlier works. Hopefully, one day, we can see the difference in quality, for better or (though expectantly not) for worse.

Jon can feel his annoyance spark as Sansa sits across the table from him, her arms folded and her bottom lip stuck out in a pout.

“So,” Robb says, hesitantly, looking between them. “Jonquil's spell disperses all the wildlife in the area. Aemon, you close your eyes and listen, but there's not even a single rustle in the underbrush. Animals big and small have taken cover. Your hunt is unsuccessful.”

“Great,” Jon grits out. “That's just great. We'll all starve now, are you happy?”

“Yes,” she says, eyes narrowing. “Anything is better than killing innocent animals for you to eat, you barbarian.”

Theon groans, tilting back in his chair. “I appreciate the realism, Robb, but this whole food thing is killing the vibe, especially with these two,” he gestures between Jon and Sansa. “Sam never made us worry about eating when he DM'd.”

Robb frowns, about to defend his choices, but Jon cuts him off.

“We wouldn't be having an issue if Jonquil here would let me hunt,” Jon huffs. He can't seem to look away from Sansa's defiant eyes.

“I'm sorry my one little spell was able to render you completely useless,” Sansa scoffs, her voice haughty. She's enjoying this, he thinks.

Sam clears his throat. “I'll look around for any edible vegetation,” he says.

“Nature check,” Robb commands, and Sam picks up his dice and rolls. “Alright. You look around the forest and note a tree close by with fruit hanging down, but you read enough books back at the wizard's college to know that though they look fat and juicy and delicious, they are extremely poisonous.”

“I try to eat one,” Theon cuts in with a grin.

“Reek, don't!” Sam cries. “They're poisonous!”

Theon mimes looking at something in his hand, as if debating eating the fruit anyway.

“Maybe I'd rather be poisoned than listen to these two snipe at each other all night,” Theon rolls his eyes, looking between Jon and Sansa.

“I'm not sniping,” Sansa sniffs. “If anyone has an attitude problem, it's Aemon.”

“Maybe Aemon has an attitude problem because Jonquil joined the group halfway through and seems to think she can make decisions for everyone.”

“Then blame Bran for dropping out,” Sansa says, her face falling and her voice suddenly wavering. “I'm just trying to help.”

“Stay in character,” Robb sighs, but no one else is really listening.

“Maybe we should take a quick break?” Sam suggests, clearly uncomfortable.

“Yeah,” Theon sighs. “I need to pee anyway.”

Sansa is the first to stand from the table, and she walks quickly up the basement stairs, and Jon feels the bottom drop out of his stomach. He gets up and follows her, up the stairs and into the kitchen, where she's filling a glass with ice water..

“Sans,” he says, standing awkwardly behind her. “You know I don't actually mean that, right? I was just... my character...”

She only half turns to face him, eyes lowered, and she says, “you're not really mad I joined?”

“No, of course not,” he sighs. “You're right, we needed a replacement after Bran couldn't...” He trails off, watches her nod with her eyes still lowered, and he lets out another frustrated sigh and runs his hand through his hair. “I like spending time with you, too. I'm glad you're here, and not just because we needed another.” It sounds so lame, and he wishes – not for the first time – that he weren't so terrible at explaining himself.

“I didn't mean to ruin your game or anything,” she says slowly. “I just thought since my character is a vegan and has a spell to talk to animals, she wouldn't let you hunt...”

“You're right,” Jon cuts in quickly. “And I was only pretending to be mad because Aemon is a big hunter.”

“I guess we did sort of choose opposite characters,” she gives him a small smile, and he feels relief flood through him.

“I already had my character, I feel like you did that on purpose,” he puts on a teasing tone, and he's rewarded with her smile growing wider.

Then she gives him a little shrug and says, “maybe I did. Maybe I like when you get all riled up.”

“Oh?” is all Jon can say as he steps towards her and takes the cup of water out of her hands and sets it on the counter. “Well, it worked.”

He leans down and kisses her, threading his fingers through the hair at the back of her head and moving his body to press her against the counter. Her arms wind around his neck and she kisses him back hard, nips at his bottom lip, digs her nails into his skin - an edge to the kiss that he's never really gotten from her before. Usually she likes everything soft and slow, but tonight there's a bite to her. It makes him groan.

“Oh, fuck, ew,” Robb's voice cuts them off, and Jon pulls away reluctantly. “Man, I knew inviting her to play with us was gonna be a problem.”

“Go away, Robb,” Sansa sighs, not removing her arms from around Jon's neck.

“No,” Robb pounds his fist on the kitchen island. “You promised this wouldn't turn into you two going at it. D&D is sacred, and I will not have you tainting it.”

“You already tainted it by making us keep track of food,” Theon breezes past them all on the way to the bathroom.

“It's part of the game!” Robb cries, but Jon isn't paying attention. Sansa still has her arms around him, and she's giving him that look.

“Uh, I think maybe we should call it for the night?” Jon says distractedly. He can't look away from her, even though he's talking to Robb. “Since we're at a resting point anyway.”

“Yeah, we can pick it up tomorrow,” Sansa agrees, her fingers moving to play with the little hairs at the back of his neck. It sends a shiver rolling down his spine.

Her parents aren't home right now.

How has he been here for hours and not really realized that? Now it's all he can think about.

Behind them, Robb makes a disgusted noise. “I swear, Sansa, we're finding someone else to replace you. I can't have you breaking up the group like this. Every time!”

“Fine, I don't want to play your stupid game anyway,” she huffs, finally dropping her arms from around Jon, but she takes his hand and starts pulling him out of the kitchen, towards the stairs to the second floor. “Nerd!” she calls back over her shoulder, sticking her tongue out at Robb.

“Yoko!” Robb yells back, but it's too late, she's already taking the stairs up, Jon following behind as fast as he can. He'll smooth things over with Robb later, but that absolutely is not the priority right now.

The priority is his girlfriend dragging him up to her bedroom, because her parents aren't home.

Do you have any tips on how to pose characters?

Sure! I’m by no means an expert and I’ve had very little formal art training, but I’ll go over what I’m thinking about when I’m working on a piece that I intend on rendering.

When I'm drawing I tend to think from the perspective of "scenes," and choose my posing from there, based on what emotions or dynamics I want to highlight in the piece. My composition and sense of 3d space leaves a lot to be desired and I have been pushing myself to work on both of these areas, so I would recommend at least thinking about this kind of stuff when you’re planning out your pieces beyond just The Poses.

Baroque painting is my favorite era of art, and it’s tremendously influential on my work. I love the chiaroscuro, the drama and the moodiness of the light and the posing. I recommend looking at your favorite art and thinking about what you like about it. Is it naturalistic, does it look like a snapshot from the subject’s daily life? Is there high drama? Is there heavy use of symbolism? Is it highly posed? What kind of mood does the piece invoke? How much of the frame does the subject take up? Is the figure contorted? Is the perspective extreme? How stylized is the figure? Does the piece use mixed media techniques or have a mixed media look?

I'll go over some of my pieces from this year and what I was thinking about while drawing them to hopefully (?) illustrate what I'm trying to say a little bit better lol.

For this one, I wanted Marcy to be the focal point of the piece with Andrias almost serving as a background prop at first glance. The s2 finale revealed a really interesting dynamic between the two of them, and I wanted to capture that vulnerability that Marcy has that Andrias took advantage of. Marcy is focused elsewhere and is distraught, but she is comfortable with him and doesn’t hold a lot of tension in her body as he holds her. Andrias fills almost the entire image behind her, his presence in her life overwhelming and isolating, even if it’s comforting. She’s stuck on her pain, her face in full light, but his attention is on her, his face mostly shaded with a strange expression. He holds her gently, but there’s something ominous about his attention.

Nadir is a troubled person with a troubled home life, and I wanted to do a piece that reflects how jaded she is. In the left panel she is sitting in a dim room in her family home, nearly nude and feigning relaxation. This is in direct contrast to how she is posed in the portrait of herself and Urale, where she is fully under his control and almost completely covered physically. This panel is about her resistance against her uncle and his abuse, her rejection of him.

In the right panel, she is floating as if in water. Physically the purpose is to show off her prosthetics and the changes she has made to become free of her abuser, but she is floating adrift and alone. Her emotions are not able to be assessed from this angle as her face is hidden, showing how she refuses to be vulnerable - but the angle looking up from below and the strange quality of the light imply that something is amiss.

Nikolae and Katya have a very intense and tumultuous relationship that defies simple definition, and for this I wanted to capture the deep intimacy as much as the deep resentment. They are dancing, dressed in traditional folk clothing which fits them both so well while also seeming terribly Off - costumes worn for the benefit of someone else. They are physically intertwined, and perhaps they will fight, or maybe they’ll kiss. Neither would be a surprise, but some kind of blood will doubtlessly be spilled.

Katya holds a knife, but it is away from both of them, her grip loose. It takes up a large part of the image, and the viewer is unable to ignore it. It is a threat, but it’s a routine one to the point of it almost being meaningless. The mirrored figures engraved on the knife are turning into beasts, as both she and Nikolae are. They cannot take their eyes off the other, both confident in their feelings - hers unbridled hatred, his a deep love that he cannot acknowledge. She despises him, and that’s almost a funny joke.

This is Bunny’s first kill from back before she was Bunny. This was a crime of passion, the murder of a girl that did not reciprocate her feelings. This is the first time Bunny realizes just how dark she is on the inside, and she is not afraid of it. She’s in highly contrasted shadow, her true nature being revealed. Her stance is strong but almost casual, as if she’s unbothered by what she’s done. Her victim’s beautiful hair that she had so treasured in life is almost an afterthought in her hand, the meaning of it lost when Bunny’s love died. Bunny does not stare directly at the camera, but rather the body that we cannot see, her expression blank and terrifying. There is a sense that this will not be her last kill, and that this is the birth of a new Bunny.

I don’t know if that’s super helpful, but that’s my thought process when I’m working on pieces like these! I also want to incorporate more symbolism into my art so that’s something that I’m working on, but I definitely recommend thinking about your art and what you want to get out of a certain piece. It’s totally legit to just draw what you think is cool or looks interesting to you, full stop, but I like to think about my art more along these lines.

On the technical side of things, I occasionally do thumbnailing but I usually have a strong idea of what I want to draw before I start a piece that I want to render. I definitely want to do more thumbnailing because I think I produce better work when I do, but that’s my personal struggle. ^^;

If I'm just doodling I'll kind of draw just whatever comes to mind, if I like a sketch I will often take it and either polish it directly from there and fix any anatomy wonkiness by looking at just references, or I'll whip out the 3d models in CSP to help with posing and likely adjust the camera angle to make the pose look more dynamic (but again, I try to also look at photographs for reference, especially for humanshaped characters, because just tracing straight over 3d models can make your art look super stiff. I have learned this the hard way lol.) You can just work directly from references and I will sometimes do that if I’m having a hard time feeling inspired, but I personally like to doodle up a scene first and then correct the sketch with refs.

I have lots of stock images and stills from movies etc saved to my files, and I will use those for inspiration a lot of the time. Definitely look at any movies or shows that you like to get ideas for posing and scene setting as well! There’s some really beautiful films out there.

ANYWAY.

No idea if that was helpful, but that’s what I’ve got as far as posing tips. ^^ Thanks for asking, I actually put a lot of thought into my art but I don’t talk about it much because I don’t necessarily think that’s interesting for my audience. 😅

TL;DR:

Think about what you want to convey with a piece and pick poses that help you get there

Look at art you like and think about what you like about it, including how figures are posed

Have lots of refs! Save cool images to use as inspiration and references later!

Look for cool scenes and imagery in (visual) media that you like

so, technically speaking, with him being game versed and all - cynic is much in the same boat as hero of 'never met scourge unless plotted dynamic with game-versed variant exists' (and lmao lol. technically there is one that exists for cynic but he's very cracked and i'm not bringing him to tumblr LMAO thats a very if you know you know sorta thing) and also... more alternate timeline stuff if it is to be.

REGARDLESS, thanks to the warp ring he discovered in the eggman empire, it opened up a lot of new doors for him. for better or for worse.

his thoughts on scourge? as a general concept... evil sonic who decided no fuck you i'll do you one better and not just embraced that shit, but carved his own path too? yeah! he thinks its great! hell fucking yes, thank you. FINALLY, some catharsis from all the self-invalidation he's faced with when it comes to alternate zones! granted... there are some things he doesn't know about what scourge (or i suppose, the majority of them) have done, or do. he doesn't really get the whole king in a castle schtick, that right there he's kinda just like... 'sure, okay. it's kinda funny how obsessed the guy is with that crown, but hey good for him?'

but yeah, he thinks scourge is really cool, delightfully hilarious and fun to be around (at least thus far in his experiences), and makes him feel a little less alone in the grand scheme of things. all of this translates to kind of a person crush - he can't decide if he'd wanna be friends with him or wants to be more like him. maybe both. (after all, being exposed to the multiverse renders him struggling with his own identity in a similar fashion...) can it turn into a full blown crush? well...

"Video Game characters seem to be in the same vein as this. The only difference is that the player can actually visually see the characters supposed beauty. The genre has surely made fictional characters easier to visualize as they have already rendered and presented the character through a 3D or 2D model withing the game itself.

And as much as the 3D game models of Genshin Impact were a hit or miss on some of its most prolific characters and its npc’s, what the Reader was looking at right now was nothing if not the epitome of beauty.

I kind of agree on sandman episode one, but it gets better as you go along and start getting into the characters a bit more. Though it still has this Gaimany feel to it that is honestly a bit of an acquired taste and better suited to print than live action. I'm not as hype on it as everyone else, but I'd still say it is worth a watch.

haha okay well I got as far as episode three and it doesn't. seem to have gotten good yet :') so uhhh hopefully it. gets.. somewhere?

and tbh. tbh my issue with this show isn't that it feels like there's an essence of Gaimanyness to it

it's that it feels. how do I put this. like it feels Hollywoodified, like, basicified for a general masses, into an almost say-nothing kind of place, the way that like MCU Phase 3 felt to me. Like, so many of the scenes just have this sort of confused vibe where it gives a little bit of some things but it doesn't really LEAN into anything, which renders it very "go girl give us nothing." Like.. if anything it just feels to me like it's lacking in artistic vision. And also storytelling deftness. The story FEELS like it WANTS a sort of web-weaving to it that the show absolutely is not giving. And the way they handled the Corinthian for example is just so sad to me lmao. like they should have leaned into the mystery of him and that should have been a whole subplot, where he shows up and tells ppl things and they're like, who are you, etc, and maybe they do little hints, but like, most of the major reveals should have come later. The nightmare line should have been figurative and not literal (the subtitles capitalized it lmfao and they already established him as a Nightmare in episode one 8) lmfao). honestly, even the eyes reveal was like... they just flubbed it, and it's interesting bc it's something that SHOULD have impact - the comic panels gives me that twinge of body horror - but the show version literally did nothing for me lol. and it SHOULD given my whole *gestures* stuff I have lmao.

A lot of parts of the effects give me low budget cdrama lol but like, they clearly have budget? but it seems used in the weirdest/randomest places/ways.

I dunno. I just. feel like the show lacks *vision*. Like it feels like they tried too hard to make a netflix show equivalent of a Avengers Endgame.

And another thing is that like. Okay you know how in Princess Bride, they changed things between the book and the movie, and there was some.. I think interview? or sth? or maybe a tumblr post lol, but where it was saying how like, the book is very much satire, and like Buttercup is insipid and Wesley is in it for her looks probably and the book implies or outright says that. But the movie has this like earnestness to it, and like, you NEED that in a movie, and the ppl creating the movie knew that? It's like, there are certain things you can do different modes of storytelling and they don't always translate one to one, but that's a feature of adaptation not a bug, and the best adaptations imo work with the media they're adapting to, to get the story to work there. I feel like whoever created this show was trying to hard to just recreate comic panels, and lost sight of like, why even adapt it to a live action tv show. It doesn't feel like the story was adapted, it feels like they're checking off boxes on the next line of content-generation.

Also lmao the show does this color-blind thing that to me creates uhh unintentional issues but I don't necessarily want to get into it, it's just like, I only really notice because there's so much else with the show that I just think it's lacking in as far as vision and care so I put this down to another manifestation of that sort of carelessness :')

why do you ship rimmer and lister? i don't judge you or anything (you should hear about some of my ships lmao) but i haven't noticed anything romantic between them? idk you don't have to answer this i'm just curious.

No offense taken, and I'll try to be as respectful as I can in my reply as well!

Before I begin, let me ask you, without malice: Why do you ship what you ship? Does it matter if it's canon or not? Is it because it makes you happy, or is it because the dynamic intrigues you, or maybe you're using a character as a placeholder for yourself to help understand your own trauma? There's a plethora of answers here that honestly is different for each individual, and really there's no "right" answer.

There are people who ship Kryten and the Cat, or Mycroft and an umbrella, or Anderson with Sherlock, or Snape and Sirius... I personally don't get any of the ships, but they're not my 'ship, and really, not my place to shit on it. Shipping just makes fandom a bit more dynamic and interactive.

The short answer to your question, for me anyway, is because it gives me hope, as do all my current ships. I'm an older cusp millennial, and I haven't had a serious relationship ever in my life. A commonality with all my ships, I've discovered, is that I have a "placeholder" character that I relate to, and in turn it just... makes me feel like there is still someone out there for me, that I'm not to old to find someone to share my life with; A John to my Sherlock. A loveably annoying life partner Lister to my grumpy, "unloveable" neurotic set-in-my-ways Rimmer. A smitten Crowley to my fussy Aziraphale. It's literally as simple as that for me on a personal level. AND because I like the chemistry of the characters interacting, and I like how other authors interpret that dynamic.

Canon-speaking though, a lot of my ships do come about if I feel that, in-canon, it could be a very real possibility and if their chemistry feels right to me. I explained it a bit more in-depth in the description box of this art-piece here, but the long short of it is "they're stuck in space forever, as life partners, and you can see the growth of their relationship over 30 years." Binge Series 1 all the way through to 13 (The Promised Land), and you'll see a dramatic difference from Rimmer/Lister S1E1 and Rimmer/Lister S13 TPL. Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but the post-Ace era episodes are especially kind of... married couple-ish? I can't really explain. There's a few scenes where you'll see Rimmer and Lister walk off together, or share an inside joke at the expense of another character, or Lister will be so DONE with Rimmer but still put up with him anyway after Rimmer "apologizes" in his own way, LOL. Also:

They have a ship the size of a small city, and even when Rimmer came back in series 9, they still shared a room. I KNOW in sitcoms it's fiscally better to keep sets to a minimum, but they... I dunno could have shown Rimmer and Lister in separate rooms at any time.

In fact, the one SINGLE TIME they did split rooms pre-Starbug/Post-Starbug, in "ME SQUARED", when Rimmer got annoyed with himself... He went RIGHT back to share a room with Lister again, so the "minimal sets" thing get rendered moot... "Me Squared" is the last episode of the first season... when they would have known if their budget got slightly bigger and they could have made them in separate rooms. But nope. 11 seasons Sharing the same room?

PLUS The argument could then ALSO be made that The Cat could then share a set room too... but nope. OH and Kochanski as well... to be fair their time on Red Dwarf together was in prison, but I digress. So yeah, sharing a bunk room on a ship the size of a small city? Seems sus, LOL.

"STOKE ME A CLIPPER", it was Dave who encouraged Rimmer that he could be more, and kept Rimmer's secret when he left, not even confessing to Kochanski what happened to Rimmer.

In the episode "BLUE", Lister literally pines over Rimmer for the entire episode, to the point where Lister dreams about kissing Rimmer.

"FATHERS AND SUNS", Lister makes a true effort to take Rimmer's advice and to be a better father to himself. I know it's a stupid little thing, but it's evidence that Dave does take things Rimmer tells him to heart even when they bicker, and it ends terribly for them, but there you go LOL.

"ENTANGLED", it's explicitly stated that Rimmer literally cannot survive without Lister, since Holly is no longer running the ship. They're essentially tied together until Dave finally dies for real.

"M-CORP", I personally feel like it was Rimmer who was the most determined to get Lister back. Maybe I'm biased because Rimmer is my fave character, but I dunno, that's the vibe I got from it.

"THE PROMISED LAND" is the most telling for me, and conveniently the most recent episode... It was the "Sun and Moon" convo for me that renewed my love for their dynamic. Lister sincerely told Rimmer that he needed Rimmer in his life, and Rimmer took it to heart, AND they don't make a "no homo" joke about it later on. It was lovely to me.

There's a tonne more that I personally see probably because of shipper goggles, but what do I know, LOL. I will give that to you, that in earlier episodes it is harder to see, but I promise, binge the whole thing as one and you can see them already growing on each other by series 2.

If not a ship, I've ALWAYS seen them as each other's best friend since at least series two. Both know more about the other than any coworker/room-mate should, and thirty years on, especially after Rimmer returns, it just seems they've softened each other's edges and made themselves a family. At the very least it's a nice "found family" trope, given how fucked up Rimmer and Lister's past lives were.

ANYWAY, SORRY, I rarely get to talk about Red Dwarf, so thank you for the opportunity!

The TL;DR of this is: I ship them because I'm an old romantic sap who ships other old idiots because they make me happy and hopeful for my own future, AND because I love the chemistry my ships have with each other. Simple as that! <3

What if you played as the leader of crows and the story takes place shortly after Alina's powers is discovered and she's taken to the Little Palace, and then it follows the crows' plot line kind of trying to get Alina kinda heist-style. We get a little summary of what happened to Alina from word of mouth throughout the story, so that she doesn't take that much off the story. The whole Mattias-Nina storyline in the show could have happened off screen and now they are in hiding from the Grisha after Nina busts Mattias out of jail, so we can have the crows looking for them and finding them in their hiding place and recruiting them before going on their heist since they'll need a heart render and well matthias can come along because he's just there and extra muscle can't hurt lol. As for Mal we can have him encounter the crows at the Little Palace or perhaps somewhere in the story during their journey, your MC can decide whether to tell him the whole story or not and Mal tells you kind of what happens and that he's looking for Alina. Instead of having him gone to the Palace straight away he could have tried to sneak in and have the darling's mother warn him of the Darkling so now he's hiding in some place (maybe where the crows take shelter idk and has a knife to Kaz's throat asking wtf they're doing there and shit) and so you recruit him in your heist since you have more or less the same goals hence he becoming an RO. As for Nikolai, we can scrap the whole doctor Betrayal bullshit that went on the show and have Nikolai be the guide instead, they don't know that he's a Prince but they know he's a pirate with a ship, and he asks them for a favour in return which he won't tell them about until the time comes (help him take the throne, which can be told in thr later books if there are ones). As for the Darkling perhaps he could be an RO in the second book, he pretends to be dead but takes on the appearance of Wylan and pretend to be him and join the crows, it could be a Betrayal kinda thing and have him as an RO all the while. As for Alina you could make her an RO if you succeed in kidnapping her you could flirt with her and maybe have her be a fling during your journey back or perhaps have her be a secret romance Options in later books. As for Genya she could be added as an RO in the second book after she betrays Alina she runs away and joins Nikolai's crew. Nikolai and the crows form some sort of pact that if die times comes and interests align they'll help each other out if you prove your worth as a leader and useful asset to him. This is so long, I saw the other ask and couldn't help myself lol.

you basically wrote the whole story for me, dear bonnie 💀 not that i'm complaining since it helped out a ton about how i should probably handle some storylines. also, goddamn! that's a lot of romance options! i have no clue how i'm gonna add them all since so far i only had an idea about my version of the crows as LIs. the darkling disguised as wylan would be a plot twist that leigh bardugo could only dream of and i hope i can give him a redemption arc because him in the books were not it, ugh why does he have to be so hot though.

i ship genya with david so much that it will hurt to make her an RO but changing her name and character (slightly) will get rid of the remaining guilt. also nikolai, i am on my knees for cocky blonde characters puh-lease 🧎🏻 even better when he's the future king of ravka with a demon inside him 😍 also i will not be adding the heartbreaking part which happened at the end of crooked kingdom because i can only take so much in my lifetime.

you've got me even more fired up about this, i'll work on the prologue in-between periods of writing TCS's update. it's not 100% decided which setting it will be based on or if it will be the mixture of SoC and SaB like in the netflix adaptation but the former is winning by a large margin in the polls 👀

(also, i have a whump headcannons ask that i've been compiling the response to for the past weeks (anon who asked, i'm so sorry it's taking so long, i'm not ignoring your ask), so this one will focus strictly on everything OTHER than whump.)

- he often bites his nails when stressed, or even just bored (or when he has no cigar on hand. he has a thing for chewing/nibbling on things). stopping himself from doing it is one of the reasons he wears gloves (other than for warmth and to shield his hands from damage), as having his nails bit too short is painful and can make his work almost impossible. (saying this as a nail biter. you literally CANNOT use a finger that you bit the nail of too short)

- speaking of stimming, aside from biting things, he uses the compass around his neck as a stim toy. it's useless around him, as his own magnetic field renders it impossible to point north as it should, but he'll often play with it by making it spin through altering his field. it requires both focus and a small bit of physical effort, effectively taking his mind off whatever's stressing him, at least for a short bit until he gets bored.

- he thinks he can cook, but anyone who's ever tried his cooking strongly disagrees. while his techniques are okay, like he doesn't burn or undercook stuff, the things he makes are borderline inedible. (he once made a party cheese salad for a family meeting and lowkey bonded with moreau over him being the only one to like the atrocity)

- he's the youngest of the lords (with the age order being alcina>moreau>donna>karl). donna looks younger than him, however it's mostly because of his healing factor being worse than the others', making him actually age (even if very slow) instead of being stuck in time.

- he DESPISES family meetings, along with the family dinners miranda keeps insisting on (which take place either at the castle or at donna's place, as moreau's reservoir and the factory are unsuited for that to say the least), but the latter's redeeming factor is that, if he's lucky, he gets a unique opportunity to fuck with alcina. which usually means eating her out of house and home (using the fact that she's too proud of her good manners to refuse a guest), getting drunk, wrecking her house (muddy boots who?) and then passing out somewhere. it gives him the opportunity to make himself her problem and he loves that. (i've actually started work on a comic a few weeks ago where alcina kicks karl off a random couch she finds him on (in a food coma), a shitposty thing with a SLIGHTLY wholesome-ish ending (as wholesome as alcina gets), but it was taking so long that i just gave up at some point. though, if any of y'all would like to see it finished, let me know, it'd be easier to motivate myself to do it if i knew anyone actually wanted me to lol)

- he holds animals close to his heart but would hate to admit it, in fear of appearing weak or soft. claims that he lets the one (1) cat stay in his factory ONLY because it helps with rats, totally not for company because he's a sad lonely man, what are you talking about.

-he's neither a cat or dog person, he likes both equally, but it'd be far harder to keep a dog in his quarters, seeing as it would require both more space and regular walks + playtime, while a cat is perfectly happy with just getting to sleep on him at night (in terms of contact/bonding).

- though, while he doesn't have a dog, he lowkey treats the lycans as such. keeps them under his control solely through giving them dog treats he buys from the duke. (took him a long time and lots of claw/teeth injuries to figure that out, but hey, better late than never).

--warning: the next few paragraphs discuss weight insecurity and body dysmorphia. i'll let you know when the segment ends so you can skip it if it's triggering or makes you uncomfortable--

- he's insecure about his body, both the scars littered across it and his weight. the first can't be helped and he's aware of it, however the latter TECHNICALLY CAN be and thus it bothers him far more. he used to be in a better shape, both mentally and physically, before his life was completely consumed by his work and plans of the rebellion, however these days, he just can't afford to focus on keeping himself in shape (he doesn't have the time and energy to exercise outside of the weight lifting he has to do while working, and same goes for taking care of his diet. cooking and eating balanced food takes too much time and energy, making him resort to whatever is the quickest to make and will keep him going through the day). he feels intense discomfort when looking at younger pictures of himself, he can't help but feel that he has "let himself go" in the recent years, however simultanously doesn't have the time and energy to do anything about it. it's frustrating and makes him feel out of control.

- alcina once touched on the topic while arguing with him, and it fucked him up. up until then he clang onto the small bit of hope that maybe noone has noticed the changes in his body, that maybe it was just him that was hypersensitive to it and in reality it wasn't that visible, and alcina's comment instantly shattered it. not only did she notice, but she apparently considered it worthy of using against him. there goes his last bit of confidence.

- it was one of the very few times she has seen him actually cry (before storming off to hide himself in his factory). it was also one of the few times she had apologized to him. she has made comments about his height and general looks before, and it never seemed to bother him, he always retorded back with a snarky remark targeted back at her, so she truly thought he had no insecurity issues- but this time, for the first time, he just looked hurt, almost disbelieving, and ran away without a word. it made her initial anger melt away instantly, realizing what she did. she ran after him a few minutes later, hoping it wasn't too late and she hadn't done unreversable damage. the whole incident was a major blow to her ego, especially as she was forced to beg karl over the intercom to let her in, but she wouldn't have forgiven herself if she didn't tell him that she was sorry and didn't mean it. she had to admit to herself that it truly was a low blow and she couldn't let herself be carried away like this ever again.

- karl's confidence never really healed from the incident, it's not something he can just forget. but he did get a kick out of having alcina beg for forgiveness, so he considers at least that to be an upside of the whole thing.

- he gets sensory overloads easily, especially from loud noise, making him snappy if there's too many people talking/making noise. he also often has issues with things touching him when he's already stressed - due to this, he keeps a hairband in his pocket at all times (to keep his hair out of his face), and has tied the belt of his trench coat behind his back so it wouldn't touch his arms while moving around (that one is actually part of his character model). having things hanging off him irritates him greatly.

- he has a tendency to cling onto/hug whatever is in his reach while he's asleep. usually it's a pillow or his blanket, but it's also a risk one should be aware of when choosing to sleep in one bed with him. you're gonna wake up in a death grip. and he's a heavy sleeper, so don't even think about going to the bathroom.

- speaking of physical affection, he loves massages, they're one of his favorite types of affection to receive. any kind of them, really. he's sore most of the time, so a bit of relief is always greatly appreciated. back/shoulders after a long day of work, tummy if his cadou is bothering him or his eating habits fucked him over again, maybe even hands if he's worked manually for too long and his palms are starting to cramp. it's all really appreciated. (another factor contributing to why he likes them is that they're completely selfless acts of affection. his partner isn't getting anything out of it (like they would with anything sexual or romantic), its only purpose is to help him feel better. makes him feel loved.)

- speaking of, he literally cried the first time ethan gave him a shoulder rub. feeling the decades worth of pain, tiredness and muscle strain that he didn't realize he felt finally fade, be washed away, made his eyes water, he couldn't help it. it wasn't long after they had moved in together (as roommates, since karl had nowhere to go), and to karl, it felt like an affirmation that it's over, he can relax, he can rest now. no need to keep overworking himself, to keep not letting himself ever catch a break because "he might like it too much and stop chasing his goal", to keep doing anything to keep himself going for years on end despite knowing it's ruining his body. it's done, it's over, he finally deserves a rest. it made ethan deeply confused and concerned before karl sobbed out why he's crying.
