#^ another post thats rlly funny with my current pfp. canon#anyways its genuinely terminal#i cant remember if ive already said this but i think its cause even tho i know for a fact i mustve watched episodes with her in it#because my brother says we did when we watched it as kids. i had ZERO memory of ever witnessing anything to do with her#other than ofc like. holly jolly secrets LOL but that doesnt count#i only knew of that stuff secondhand during the period where i was kind of just occasionally hearing about the show as it aired when i#wasnt watching it. so basically while i already kind of knew what happened. this is me experiencing her as a character and her plotline#essentially for the first time. and realizing ohmy god shes the best character ever. holy fawk.......................#i only just started my at rewatch and i just started s2#but before that i had skimmed thru a guy's reactions to the full series which led to me watching her episodes for the first time. and MAN.#man. i love her somsuchh oh my god. BETTYYYYYTHAHRAHGHRHGRHRGHRGH#when the character is loving to the point of unhealthy obsession and sacrificing their entire life for the other person#that shit is like cocaine to me#rlly rlly hoping that f&c addresses how crazy and fucked her constantly sacrificing everything for simon is#literally GO TO THERAPY GIRL. GO TO CHAOS GOD THERAPY.#but then again. if she went to therapy she wouldnt be a cool wizard. so maybe its not worth it#also i love a good ''normal average human character slowly becoming less and less human until they are unrecognizable''#serena.txt

A Mendell Christmas: Part One
Tumblr media
A little Christmas short for the holiday season! This occurs toward the end of Team Players, before Aderyn (spoiler alert for Team Players ending!) reveals she's leaving Mendell. (please excuse any errors, I'm not the best editor lol)
Naomi
“Naomi?” A soft, rhythmic knock at the door called for my attention. “It’s me.”
I tugged off my headphones and glanced at the clock. I’d been so knee-deep into online Christmas shopping I didn’t realize the time.
"You ready?" Lincoln was out of breath — undoubtedly from taking the stairs two by two because he couldn’t stand the time it took to climb them.
I smiled at him. His eyes were bright and full of infectious excitement. He bounced on the balls of his feet like he was ready to take action at a moment’s notice.
“For what?” I couldn't help but tease.
“Naomi.” His shoulders sagged and his smile tapered off into near non-existence. “They’re all downstairs right now and in the worst mood ever. We have a job to do and you’re going to tell me you forgot?”
I laughed and got up from my desk to reveal the bottom half of my outfit. Relief smoothed Lincoln’s brow. He chuckled at the spin I did to make my green, tree skirt light up. His bouncing was back.
“You really thought I forgot?” I tugged off my sweatshirt to reveal the ugliest Christmas t-shirt I could find at the local thrift shop. It had reindeer patches, a multitude of Santa Clauses, and enough colorful candy cane to make one feel cross-eyed.
“You’re just so good at bluffing, Sunshine,” Lincoln said and pulled out two Santa hats from his bag. Both were green and trimmed with gold fabric. My name was embroidered in black thread on one.
I gasped and stood still as he placed it on my head carefully as if it were a crown.
“There, now you’re all set,” he said.
“This is so cute! Where did you get it? Wait…do you know how to sew?”
“No, I wish. I just know people who know people who know how to sew.” He nodded in approval at how the hat looked on me and then, placed his own on. “I got one made for all of us. I wanted it to be perfect. A holiday to remember despite…well, you know.”
Lincoln had been planning this for weeks. And as his partner in crime (or elf in crime depending on the level of Christmas spirit), I was committed to helping him.
“It will be perfect,” I promised while adjusting my hat. “They’re going to cheer up and we’re going to make this a time to remember. They’ll be so holly and jolly we’ll probably get sick of them.”
Lincoln laughed. “God, imagine.”
“Anything is possible this time of year,” I said even though seeing Sam, Henrik, and especially Finn more excited than Lincoln and I would be a sight to behold.
“Are we all set?” I grabbed my phone, ready to record reactions for the eventual short film Lincoln wanted to put together. He was going to call it “Our First Christmas.” When I asked if they’d spent holidays together before he said, of course.
“Why first then?” I’d wondered.
“Because you’re here and now, our family’s bigger. It’s our first Christmas together,” he’d said so casually like it was simple and my inclusion vital. I’d cried that day and Finn almost got into it with Lincoln until he realized it was good tears.
“Almost set,” Lincoln answered me. “Just one more thing…”
He tossed a garland around my neck. I snorted but didn’t protest.
“Now you’re perfect!” He grinned. “Remember your cues?”
I rolled my eyes, good-naturedly. “Of course I remember my cues. I’m a professional.”
“That’s what I like to hear.” He started out the room and I followed with an equal amount of pep in my step.
Lincoln had big plans for his Secret Santa event – something of which I didn't originally think needed much of any planning. But in any event Lincoln put together, he committed ten times the necessary energy and focus. And I was lucky enough to also be his second. We wreaked havoc on our household with our combined forces. The guys feigned fear of our events, pretending they hated being roped into the fun. It was a farce they kept up even now as I marched into the living room.
"Uh oh," Henrik teased from his spot on the couch. He closed the book he was reading, using his index finger as a temporary bookmark.
Sam was lying on the loveseat with his legs hanging over the edge of the armrest and a glassed gaze on the ceiling. My heart tugged at the small smile he flashed in my direction. He'd been in a dark place after his relationship with Aderyn had been left in a state of limbo. I couldn't get much out of him but Finn relayed some of his fear. Sam was a large chunk of the reason why Lincoln wanted to go so hard this holiday season. The guys didn't usually exchange gifts but retail therapy was something Lincoln thought could cheer everyone up.
"What's this?" Finn was in the kitchen, loading the last bit of dishes into the dishwasher. He smiled when I twirled once for him to admire the lights on my skirt. I’d been sworn to secrecy about Lincoln’s plans but that didn’t keep me from at least showing my boyfriend the outfit earlier.
Finn loved a lot of things about my skirt…mainly how it clung to my waist and provided easy access for him to do what he wanted. My cheeks burned when I remembered how long we’d spent in our room this morning. How long he insisted on being underneath me.
Finn flashed me a knowing smile before finishing up the dishes.
“Uh…” I cleared my throat, trying to get back on track.
“The lights,” Lincoln whispered from the staircase. He tried to keep out of view, readying for his big entrance. “If I may have your attention and then, the lights.”
Sam laughed at Lincoln’s obvious coaching. Score. It wasn’t his carefree laugh but it was better than his forlorn staring.
Henrik was polite enough to pretend like he didn’t hear Lincoln. He made a noise of wonder when I clapped and the lights went out.
“Since when did we have that?” Sam sat up, completely intrigued.
“Irrelevant,” Lincoln said and then whispered to me, “Tell them it’s irrelevant.”
“I installed them last weekend,” Finn explained.
“You rewired our living room in a weekend?” Sam asked, impressed.
“It didn’t require rewiring,” Finn said.
“Nowadays, sound-sensitive lights are pretty common and simple to install,” Henrik added.
“Irrelevant,” Lincoln repeated, this time it was a plea.
“Right!” I called in a voice louder than usual. The guys jumped and turned their attention back to me. “It doesn’t matter. What matters is our main event.”
“What?” Sam glanced at his friends, searching for explanations. There was enough light from the sun setting outside to bleed into the living room and flood the floor with a warm red. The red painted their faces, revealing similar expressions of curiosity.
“All I know is that she needed sound-sensitive lights.” Finn shrugged and joined Henrik on the couch. “What she needs, I get.”
“Simple and straightforward,” Henrik said when Sam looked at him in exasperation. “Did you expect he’d be anything else?”
Sam chuckled and sighed. “No, I guess not.”
“Gentlemen,” I said and unlocked my phone to start the music. An instrumental version of A Holly Jolly Christmas played. “Tonight is our first annual Mystery Secret Santa.”
“Mystery Secret Santa?” Sam asked. “That feels repetitive. Isn’t Secret Santa already a mystery?’
I frowned. “Okay, are you going to let me finish my introduction or not? We have a dance to get through.”
“Oh, there’s a dance?” Sam’s face lit up. He pulled out his phone, ready to record. “Say less.”
Henrik and Finn tried to hold in their laughter, succeeding only when I shot them silencing glares.
“I would like to present to you this night's host,” I announced with a dramatic gesture of my arm. “Lincoln Hill.”
Henrik set his book to the side and clapped at his friend’s entrance. His smile grew wider when he saw Lincoln’s dramatic fur-lined, red cape and the oversized carpet bag he toted.
“Good evening,” Lincoln started in a deeper voice than usual. He bowed to our audience. That was my cue to turn on the multi-colored, twinkling Christmas lights I’d lined around the living room’s entrance.
Henrik’s clapping got louder and Finn joined in. Even Sam looked impressed, whistling at the light show as he directed his camera to them briefly.
“Taught her that,” Finn said quietly with pride.
I smiled at him and continued, “Mr. Hill will tell you all how our mystery will unfold.”
“Okay, Mr. Hill,” Sam teased. “Let’s see what you got for us.”
“In the two-story house, right off Highbury Lane, lived five very studious university students.” Lincoln walked around the living room as he spoke. With each sentence he said, I lit a candle. Warm light slowly brought life back into the house.
“We live off of a street,” Finn mumbled. “Right?”
“We do,” Sam assured.
“Ssh.” Henrik patted Finn’s shoulder. “It’s fine.”
“All of which,” Lincoln continued, choosing to ignore the interruption. “Had a bloody, red secret.”
“The best kind,” I said.
“Very,” Lincoln agreed and winked at me. “Each secret was written down and hidden to quell their guilt. Due to sacred law, that secret was to be revealed once a year. And during that time, they were cursed to read a fellow housemate's secret. Once the secret was shared, they would temporarily be free of guilt during the holidays. Free to be merry and bright.”
“That’s kind of sad when you think about it,” Finn mused.
“It is.” Henrik hummed in agreement.
“Okay, guys, it’s not supposed to be sad,” Lincoln quickly abandoned his spooky deep voice for his normal tone. “It’s supposed to be fun lore.”
“But we’re cursed,” Henrik teased. “How is that fun?”
“Yeah, since when are curses fun?” Sam wondered.
“I can’t.” Lincoln turned to me with a groan. “They’re so…them.”
I laughed and hurried to his side to unzip the carpet bag. “It’s fine. We’ll just move on to the picking.”
Lincoln sighed, shook out his shoulders, and resumed his narrator's voice. “One sheet for each housemate. One chance to end their guilt by confessing to their murder.”
“You’re first.” I took the bag and hurried over to Sam.
“The broody leader with a heart more tender and kind than he lets on,” Lincoln said.
“Alright, cool it with the titles,” Sam grumbled and dug his hand into the bag.
“Well?” I asked when he opened the sheet.
“Um…I can read it aloud?” he asked.
“Yes, it’s a mere riddle. Something only you and the murderer will connect on,” Lincoln said.
“That makes no sense,” Sam said and shrugged. “But whatever. It says, I murdered in secret. My feet made no sound. I can construct the coffin easily. My hands are skillful enough to handle the ground…What the hell?”
“Next,” I sang and moved to Finn.
He reached into the bag with one hand and snuck his free hand to the back of my knee. I breathed easily under his warm touch as he read his riddle.
“I murdered between jokes. Made a sound like no other. I’m an easy catch. Just remember I’m nobody's brother.”
“Can we trade?” Sam asked. “I think I know that one.”
“No trades!” Lincoln demanded. “The bag has chosen.”
“Your turn.” I smiled at Henrik and he returned it before retrieving his confession.
“I murdered in daylight. I was drowning in yellow. My fingers typed fast. I felt nothing but mellow.” Henrik chuckled. “Cute. I like this one.”
“And you.” I skipped to Lincoln and shook the bag a little. He used a hand to cover his eyes before picking.
“I murdered with a spoon. Or maybe it was a fork? Whatever it was, it happened under the moon. Whatever it was, I didn’t do it for sport.” Lincoln breathed a sigh of relief.
“And me,” I claimed the final sheet. “I murdered determined. I did it first. As a leader, I wasn’t afraid. As a person, I don’t fear any curse.”
I smiled, pleased.
“Well, there you have it,” Lincoln said.
“No, I really don’t.” Finn frowned down at his paper.
“You can get the help of one murderer,” I said. “But only one so choose wisely.”
Lincoln nodded in agreement.
“I got you,” Sam said and Finn sighed with relief. Sam whispered a name into his best friend’s ear and the guy lit up.
“Ah, that makes a lot more sense," Finn said.
“Are we good then?” Lincoln bounced on his feet again, already geared to start his Christmas shopping.
“No, not yet,” Sam said and pulled his camera back up. “We’re going to need that dance you two promised us.”
“Oh right.” I started toward the Bluetooth speaker. Lincoln caught my elbow before I could leave.
“Nope, they don’t deserve our dance.” Lincoln shook his head. “Not unless they stop laughing and appreciate our efforts.”
“No one’s laughing,” Sam said while…well, laughing.
“You're such an asshole,” Lincoln said with a smile. “No dance this time. We will reveal our talents when we know they’ll be appreciated. Right, Naomi?”
“Right, exactly.” I nodded. Finn caught my eye and something in his gaze told me I could be convinced to do a private show later.
“That’s all we have for now, folks,” Lincoln announced. “It’s up to you to do the rest. To figure out your fellow murderer and make sure your present is the best.”
“I do love it when he rhymes,” Henrik noted.
“And I don’t,” Sam joked. “But this is entertaining so I’ll allow it.”
“Come on,” Lincoln said. “Get off your butts and start looking for gifts. You’ve got twenty days until Christmas Eve. Let’s make every one of them count.”

Ok on the subject of Hynden Walch being amazing can we talk about AT’s voice cast? I feel like it doesnt get talked about nearly as much as it should.
Jeremy Shada is amazing for how he can escalate his voice for wacky moments or deescalate his voice for quieter, more thoughtful moments. Finn would not be the same character if it werent for Shada’s perfect vocal balance.
John Dimaggio, like what really needs to be said here? He’s BENDER! Of course he was amazing as Jake!
Hynden Walch was never really a voice I considered when thinking about how amazing AT’s voice cast was up until now, I really just remembered her because “hey thats Starfire!” But after hearing her performance as the Candy Queen I FEEL SO STUPID.
Olivia Olson…I wish I had something more constructive to say about Olsen’s voicework but I think everyone’s already well aware about how AMAZING she is as Marceline. Her voice is just so perfect for the character, being both good at delivering quips and devastating tearjerkers. And thats not even mentioning her having the single best singing voice to ever grace a western animated cartoon (yeah fuck you Alvin). Just like Jeremy Shada with Finn, I could not imagine Marceline without Olivia Olson.
Tom Kenny seems like he would be another Joe Dimaggio situation where hes one of the most amazing voice actors of the generation and thats all there is to say. But I think what makes Tom Kenny’s performance as Ice King AND ESPECIALLY SIMON so especially amazing is that…ITS TOM KENNY. THIS IS THE GUY WHO VOICES SPONGEBOB, AND HE’S RESPONSIBLE FOR THE VOUCE OF ONE OF THE MOST HEARTBREAKINGLY TRAGIC CHARACTERS IN ALL OF FICTION, AND HE DOES IT PERFECTLY. THE REVEAL IN HOLLY JOLLY SECRETS, THE CHEERS SCENE FROM SIMON AND MARCY, THE ENDING OF I REMEMBER YOU, ALL DONE BY THE SAME GUY WHO THOUGHT OF SOMETHING FUNNIER THAN 24*! THIS MAN IS A TREASURE.
Niki Yang, look, I know I already said that no one could play Marceline or Finn as well as Olson and Shada…BUT NO ONE, AND I MEAN, NO, ONE, COULD PLAY BMO AS WELL AS NIKI YANG. She brings a perfect tone of childlike wonder, curiosity and innocence into every word spoken by the little robot. She brings such a fun and vibrant energy to the little guy in episodes like “5 short graybles” or “BMO noire,” that just makes it hit all the harder when moments of existentialism pop up in episodes like “The More you Moe” or…well…”BMO.” BMO has one of the most interesting growing up stories in a series where every pretty much every character’s stories are about growing up, and a lot of that is owed to how perfectly delivered his lines are by Yang.
But theres one voice that gets overlooked more than most others, and who deserves way more credit than they get for how important they are to the show. Someone who’s been around since the very first episode and has been continually providing voices for the series even now in Fionna and Cake. A voice actress whos so commited to the show that its easier to count the episodes she ISNT in than the ones she is in. MARIA. BAMFORD. Margaret, Hot Dog Princess, Slime Princess, Ghost Princess, Melissa, Raggedy Princess, Manfried, Wildberry Princess, Undead Princess, The Butterfly with a Gun AND AN ABSOLUTELY GINORMOUS AMOUNT OF EXTRA VOICES. She puts so much of her signature hilarious vocal range into every one of the dozens if not HUNDREDS of characters that she plays throughout the series. Also a lot of you probably don’t know this but she does standup comedy and she’s hilarious and you should all listen to her albums because she also does funny voices in that and you can even sometimes identify a voice she used for a character in the show…but also trigger warning for mental illness and suicide she talks about those kind of a lot. But anyway my point is, Maria Bamford is a huge reason as to why Adventure Time is as wonderful as it is. Her wacky voices contribute so much to the weird and wonderful vibe of the show, and even if she doesn’t play any primary characters, she is one of the most important and under appreciated voices in the entire series.

Too Young Review
“Too Young” finally follows up on the newly deaged Princess Bubblegum, something fans were dying to see after no glimpses of her in the past four episodes. This would have been a more thematically appropriate season premiere, but I do like the building anticipation for the followup. The question of how this new dynamic would alter the status quo of the series going forward hung over our heads. Turns out: not at all. At least not in an obvious way.
Even putting aside the romance aspect, it’s just great to see Finn finally hanging out with someone his own age, something we never get enough of. He’s always hanging out with his older brother, and his other best friends are hundreds of years older than him. As Finn says at the beginning, he can just be himself. I like Finn stepping out to get moral support from Jake. His encouragement of Finn’s pursuit of Bubblegum is finally appropriate! Finn is a little nervous, this is probably his first ever date. But, he is overall pretty comfortable, as there’s still a strong familiarity between Finn and PB. There’s also no pussyfooting around between the two, they are very upfront with their feelings. PB already knows how Finn feels, and she basically tells Finn that he’s hot after he drinks her serum. He admits to not bathing, so it’s a good thing that BMO gets Finn on a bathing schedule by “Holly Jolly Secrets Part 1.” It’s interesting that Finn first asks if she’s trying to make herself 18 again. Part of him thinks this is all too good to be true.
Not really sure how much I need to introduce him, but Lemongrab! He’s probably the tenth most prominent character in the series, and one of the most well known characters, period. He wasn’t given much of a personality in the outline. Tom Herpich and especially Jesse Monyihan, the storyboarders for this episode, really created Lemongrab. They succeeded in making such a distinct character, and with Justin Roiland bringing him to life with some of the best voice acting of the series so far, he was basically guaranteed to become a recurring character. (I know there’s a massive elephant in the room that I’m avoiding, but it’s just not pertinent to this review. It will be addressed when I get to “Prismo the Wishmaster” and morals will be condemned!) Lemongrab’s very screamy, but he does it in such an alien way that he’s not annoying. He’s introduced with his iconic “unacceptable” catchphrase, which is pretty great and has been memed to death. He was originally going to be PB’s uncle (I assume it would have straight up been Gumbald, albeit in a very different incarnation, since he was mentioned in “Susan Strong”). I’m very glad they didn’t go that direction. They were dangerously close to ruining much of the direction they’ll take PB’s character in.
Lemongrab is now technically the rightful ruler due to PB’s deaging. I assume Bubblegum created Lemongrab with the intention of wanting an heir, and that stuck in Candy Kingdom law. Similarly to my take on “Hot Diggity Doom”, I don’t think Princess Bubblegum actually cares about the legal technicality, especially since she started creating the kingdom when she was a kid. She just wanted to delay the inevitable. She might also have more respect for the rules as a less jaded thirteen year old.
The flashback establishes that she created Lemongrab. It’s the first hint that PB created all the candy people, but it could still just be assumed that Lemongrab was an exception. The implications of PB creating life aren’t explored here, but this establishes a trait for her that will be explored a ton. We don’t know exactly when she created him, but it’s implied that it happened a long time ago, possibly hundreds of years ago. My theory is it happened before the flashbacks seen in “The Vault”. PB was used to making candy people dumb on purpose, probably straight up using dum dum juice. It’d make sense to not want her heir to be incompetent, so she’d need a different formula, especially since she isn’t using parts of the mother gum like she did with Gumbald, Lolly, and Chicle. This caused the experiment to “go wrong”. The reason I think it’s before “The Vault”, is because we see a young Peppermint Butler in it, who I don’t think was created with dum dum juice. She must have perfected the formula by then. Pep wasn’t intended to be an heir, as she’s still trying in “Goliad”, but she’ll eventually realize he fits the bill. Calling Lemongrab her “first” experiment to go wrong, is a straight up continuity error due to the Uncle Gumbald backstory. It’s also hard to believe that she didn’t have any other experiments go wrong. I think my theory could recontextualize the line to mean it’s the first one of her experiments with her new formula to go wrong, but it’s a little handwavey. As if this flashback didn’t already have enough interesting implications, we see that PB still has her memories. This raises the question of if she still has the same experiences, is her relationship with Finn still problematic? I argue that it isn’t. She behaves like a child in her new state. Her brain, just like the rest of her body, has less candy biomass, and is the brain of a child. She’s seeing her memories through the lens of a kid.
Finn and Bonnie try to solve their problems like kids would for once, with pranks. Their relationship is so pure and adorable. Bonnie cuddling up to Finn on the castle roof is one of the most wholesome moments ever in Adventure Time and Finn looks so incredibly happy. It really captures the innocence of a young child’s first romance, and it stands apart from the awkwardness that defines his relationship with Flame Princess and the maturity that comes with his dynamic with Huntress Wizard. At the same time, Lemongrab gets more defined as he tries to laugh and have fun with the pranks after Peppermint Butler’s explanation. He wants to fit in with others, but he just doesn’t see the world in a neurotypical way, so it comes off as forced and awkward, like his bobbing head laughter.
Peppermint Butler tells Lemongrab that food comes from Mars. It’s a weird lore detail that isn’t ever explained, but is referenced again. It’d make sense for a world of talking animals and talking food to get food from an outside source, but there’s plenty of examples of them eating food from Ooo. I’ll assume that industrialized food comes from Mars, and this is considered more civilized. Lemongrab eating the spiced food is a great sequence, and causes him too much pain for him to just laugh off.
Princess Bubblegum finally decides it's time to stop delaying what she knows is inevitable: becoming 18 again. Finn’s upset, but has the ability to recognize the greater good enough to swallow those feelings. This whole experience was more of a well needed break for PB, than a true commitment to a new permanent identity, just like a later arc she’ll have. But unlike later, she doesn’t change the way she conducts her life through learning from this ordeal. Many fans don’t think this episode works with PB’s portrayal in the rest of the series, but I disagree. She sacrifices her happiness for her people, which will be explored as a character flaw later down the line that ends up backfiring for her kingdom anyway. She views having fun as something mainly for children, and work as something that must consume adults. There is no middle ground for her. The pain this causes PB just makes her double down on work as a distraction. Some of that analysis is based on future episodes, but a lot of it can be taken away from just “Too Young”. It’s great to finally get an episode that focuses on fleshing out Princess Bubblegum’s deeper feelings and motivations. It’s really the only episode in the first three seasons with that accomplishment.
Princess Bubblegum says she needs her lab equipment to engineer more candy flesh, an even bigger hint that she created the candy people. I love the scene of her citizens giving PB parts of themselves. They recognize how selfless Bubblegum is, and sacrifice pieces of themselves like she does for them. Finn uses the power of love to catalyze the re-aging process. He gets to return Princess Bubblegum’s favor in “Mortal Folly” with the like-like sweater! It’s cheesy but it’s such a perfect resolution. Princess Bubblegum’s goodbye to Finn is heartbreaking, and it’s really tragic, especially after seeing how happy they were together. They hug and Finn has his first kiss. It’s a really special moment, and it really should be his only kiss with Princess Bubblegum. Fuck you “Wizard Battle” for taking away a little bit of what makes this moment so special and tragic.
Bubblegum turns back and is pretty cold to Finn, but I love the contrast of her just saying “‘scuse me Finn” and how much taller she is than Finn. She’s also cold to Lemongrab, calling him a butt, which is even more problematic given the fact she’s responsible for him. The next moment is soooo important. Finn comes on to PB, which I can’t even condemn him for this time given the circumstances, and PB immediately shuts him down. She takes the crush slightly more seriously than just innocent puppy love. I love how awkward Finn asking if she wants to hug more is, really highlighting how this relationship does not work with this age difference. She responds by not humoring him finally, saying “that was like 5 years ago” and “you really gotta move on.” People have criticized Bubblegum for being too cold to Finn. I do understand calling those comments, and her joking about the situation, insensitive. It comes across to Finn like the relationship they had means nothing to her now. I really don’t think it meant nothing to her, as we’ll see by her subtle changes in behavior and a line she has in “Burning Low.”  But, I’m sure it was hurtful and confusing for Finn. I still can’t really blame PB for how she responded. She definitely could have been more sensitive about it, while still clearly turning him down. But, it’s an awkward situation. She was still trying to be kind about it, even if the joking manner came off as hurtful, and she’s very clear in her rejection which is good. She still doesn’t know the true extent of Finn’s feelings.
Season two’s cliffhanger being immediately reversed in one episode is a controversial decision. It’s the first example of one of the biggest criticisms leveled against the series, not committing to interesting status quo changes. Turning Bonnie back to 18 is a decision I 100% support. Yes, it’s sad how much of a more entertaining character young PB is compared to the regular state of her character so far. But, essentially replacing the most boring character of the main cast with an entirely different character would feel like such a lame solution to a problem the series has. Working on making her a more engaging character is the correct path. The path they take Bubblegum on is my favorite aspect of the series, so I’m glad this didn’t stick. It’s just unfortunate that it takes another season for that to happen. It makes reversing back to the status quo more questionable. Also, we can’t lose Hynden Walch! To be fair, restoring the status quo after only one episode is the aspect of this that’s more contentious. I wouldn’t have been opposed to seeing young PB in a few more episodes, but I don’t really see what more could have been done. I think “Too Young” fully explores everything interesting that can come out of this plotline: her relationship with Finn and how Princess Bubblegum acts differently at this age. This also isn’t entirely a reset. Not only does this episode color Princess Bubblegum’s character moving forward, it also sets a clear new dynamic for Finn and Bubblegum. She stops humoring his advancements (except for “Wizard Battle”, but again, fuck that episode). It’s the first of many times “everything stays, but it still changes” is applicable. We’ll see how long that ends up being a good excuse moving forward though.
Finn calls Jake and he gives Finn some pretty bad advice if you take it as him still telling Finn to keep pursuing PB! To be fair, he doesn’t yet know that Bubblegum is an adult again. But Finn tells him that he got dumped. You could also interpret Jake’s advice as being persistent in finding love in general, not necessarily referring to Bubblegum specifically. His speech was intended to be important and to foreshadow the rest of the series, but I’m not sure if this really panned out. He does defeat a demon lord (whether it refers to Hunson, Ke-Oth, The Lich, or evil in general). Finn definitely warps through several worlds (“Puhoy”, “Crossover”, “Beyond the Grotto”, etc). Walking up the wizard steps could foreshadow Huntress Wizard, even though it’s unclear if they ever get in a committed relationship. The magic key and water world don’t really come to pass, unless you wanna say “President Porpoise is Missing!” I’m probably taking it too literally. I think it’s true meaning is to just be persistent in finding love despite all the obstacles. I think that’s what Jake’s means, so I like the speech. The episode ends with Finn looking at Bubblegum up above. It seems like Finn takes it as advice to keep pursuing PB specifically, as we see in upcoming episodes. A lot of fans took it this way, thinking Finn will just have to wait until he becomes 18 to get with PB. With him aging throughout the series, that does seem like a plausible endgame. But there’s obviously problematic implications with that. The series ends up going in a different direction and doesn’t make romance a central part of Finn’s final arc, so this speech really doesn’t end up feeling as important as it was set out to be.
This is a really iconic episode with a super memorable story and introduction of a major character, and it’s one of my favorites so far. It’s essentially a what if scenario, the one time we see what Finn and PB could be like as a couple. The one time Finn gets to live out his greatest desire. I’m not a Fubblegum shipper, but I’m glad the shippers get this episode. Shipping them outside this episode is weird, but I’m fully on board with their relationship here. I guess I’ll end with some controversy. You can’t tell me Princess Bubblegum didn’t have real feelings for Finn in this one. I totally interpret her as bi just because of this episode.

Adventure Time episodes necessary for understanding Fionna and Cake
I've had some people ask me if they need to watch Adventure Time to watch Fionna and Cake, so I decided to make a list of episodes I find vital to watching before watching Fionna and Cake! I would recommend just watching the whole series, but I also get not everyone wants to.
Please keep in mind that these are not all of the lore-important Adventure Time episodes, only the ones relevant to the new Fionna and Cake spinoff up to episode 6 (the latest episode out at the time of me making this.) I will update it with suggestions or if I need to add more episodes as new Fionna and Cake ones come out.
This list may have vague Adventure Time spoilers. Read at own risk.
Without further ado, list below the cut!
Part 1: Essential Episodes
You should watch these to fully understand Fionna and Cake. Without them, you will be lost at some point.
S3E9 “Fionna and Cake” - First instance of the concept of Fionna and Cake
S3E20 “Holly Jolly Secrets Part 2” - Simon backstory information
S4E25 “I Remember You” - Simon and Marceline backstory information
S4E26 “The Lich” - Set-up for next episode (multi-part arc)
S5E1 “Finn the Human” - Prismo introductory episode, context on multiverse
S5E2 “Jake the Dog” - Context on multiverse
S5E11 “Bad Little Boy” - Fionna and Cake-based episode
S5E14 “Simon & Marcy” - Simon and Marceline backstory information
S5E48 “Betty” - Betty and Simon backstory information
S6E1 “Wake Up” - Important Prismo context
S6E9 “The Prince Who Wanted Everything” - Fionna and Cake-based episode
S6E19 “Is That You?” - Important Prismo context
S6E24 “Evergreen” - Important Ice King context
S6E38 “You Forgot Your Floaties” - Important Betty episode
S7E7 “Everything Stays” - Simon and Marceline backstory information
S7E21 “King’s Ransom” - Important Ice King and Betty episode
S7E23 “Crossover” - Important Prismo/multiverse context
S8E1 “Broke His Crown” - Important Ice King/Simon episode
S8E8 “Elemental” - Important lore information, set-up for later miniseries
S8E9 “Five Short Tables” - Fionna and Cake-based episode
S8E12 “Preboot” - Important context on humans in the Adventure Time universe (watch follow-ups if invested)
S8E19 “Jelly Beans Have Power” - Important lore information, sets up next miniseries
Islands Miniseries (S8E20-27) - Vital information on humans in the Adventure Time Universe
Elements Miniseries (S9E1-9) - Important worldbuilding and Ice King/Betty context
S9E12 “Fionna and Cake and Fionna” - Fionna and Cake-based episode
S10E4 “Bonnibel Bubblegum” - Needed to understand finale
S10E11 “Temple of Mars” - Important Betty episode
S10E12 “Gumbaldia” - Needed to understand finale
S10 Finale “Come Along With Me” - Entirely necessary plot and lorewise
Distant Lands (spinoff series) “Obsidian” - Important Simon, Marceline, and Bubblegum information
Part 2: Recommended Episodes
I would recommend these as they will provide extra context for Fionna and Cake, but you shouldn’t get lost without them.
S1E12 “Evicted!” - Marceline’s introductory episode, as she is very important in Simon’s story.
S1E2 "Trouble in Lumpy Space" - Introduces LPS who is decently important in Fionna and Cake
S1E3 “Prisoners of Love” - The Ice King’s introductory episode, and a pretty good example of how he acts prior to character development.
S1E20 “Freak City” - Introduces Magic Man, who becomes important in Betty’s story
S2E1 “It Came From the Nightosphere” - Important context on Marceline/Marshall’s relationship with one of their parents (becomes relevant)
S2E18 “Susan Strong” - Susan is later a part of essential episodes
S3E10 “What Was Missing” - Important for Bubblegum and Marceline’s relationship/development
S3E19 “Holly Jolly Secrets Part 1” - Helps with understanding Part 2, also provides a pretty good example of what the Ice King is like pre-character development, but not exactly necessary
S4E5 “Return to the Nightosphere” - Helpful Marceline context
S4E6 “Daddy’s Little Monster” - Helpful Marceline context
S4E24 “Reign of Gunters” - Introduces Wizard City, may make later episodes easier to understand
S5E4 “Up a Tree” - Character from this plays a decently major role in an episode of Fionna and Cake, but background context isn’t all too necessary
S5E6 “Jake the Dad” - At least one of Jake’s kids is in Fionna and Cake, so it may be helpful to see them
S5E26 “Wizards Only, Fools” - Additional Wizard City information
S6E2 “Escape from the Citadel” - Follows S6E1 directly and helps provide context on Finn as seen in Fionna and Cake
S6E30 “The Diary” - Context on TV, who appears to have a decently important role in Fionna and Cake
Stakes Miniseries (S7E6-13) - Important Marceline lore
S8E2 “Don’t Look” - May give some context on Ice King/Simon
S8E4 “Lady Rainicorn of the Crystal Dimension” - Context on TV, who appears to have a decently important role in Fionna and Cake
S8E7 “Normal Man” - May help with context on Betty
Distant Lands (spinoff series) "Wizard City" - More context on what happens to a character present in Fionna and Cake
Note: Without watching the full series (and Distant Lands spinoff), there are still some references or minor characters you’ll miss or not know anything about when they are mentioned/shown. However, following this guide, I believe you should still be able to understand and enjoy Fionna and Cake!

I know it's not Christmas or even December, but that will not stop me (and my friend @cleffalover173 , she came up with a lot of ideas for her.) from making the daughter of Krampus, the Christmas devil himself.
Kristal Yuletide
Daughter of Krampus
Parent
Krampus
Age
15
Killer Style
There are two elements that go into a Yuletide outfit: Fur and velvet! It's cozy, festive, and fashionable, win-win! I'll let you on a little secret: I also have a soft spot for sweaters, including the "ugly" ones.
Freaky Flaw
I've been told that I my cheerfulness can be...irritating sometimes, and my love for Christmas rather obsessive. Perhaps I do need to turn it down, just a little bit...I also tend to get really upset when things don't go according to plan.
Pet
The sweetest reindeer a demon could ask for: Noel! Before I adopted her, all of the other reindeer used to laugh and call her names because of her glowing red nose, but now, with that kind of nose, she truly lights up my life!
Favorite Activity
Ever since I was young, I always had a passion for caroling, going door to door and spreading holiday cheer is just the best! Other than that, I take much joy in planning Christmas parties for my friends, I can already imagine the fun we'll have before the party even starts!
Pet Peeve
All those scrooges during the holiday season, those that lack the holiday cheer. Though, they don't really make me mad, just upset. Like, something awful must have happened to make someone so angry and mellow during the jolliest time of the year.
Favorite Subject
Music and Singing! Though Skullinary Arts is right up there too, because I love to cook and bake, especially cookies!
Least Favorite Subject
This may come as a surprise, but I do not like Physical Deaducation, I was never really the athletic type.
Favorite Colors
Red and green! But I shan't forget gold, white ,and brown too, all of them just scream the Christmas season.
Favorite Food
Gingerbread cookies with peppermint icing, smells just as good as it tastes! Even better with a side of 'nog (without the "extra kick" of course, Dad says I'm not old enough for that yet)
Friends
Abbey Bominable
River Styxx (GFF and Crush )
Twyla
Abilities
Immortality
As she is a demon, she is immortal
Skillset
Musical Talents
Kristal is musically talented, ever since she was pretty young she had a knack for singing, starting with her caroling during the holiday season. She also has fondness and is seen using bells, mainly hand bells.
Cooking and Baking
Kristal loves to bake things such as gingerbread cookies, yule log cake, turkey, and mince pies, among other things. She excels in Skullinary Arts because of this, and even cooks the food for her own parties.
Babysitting
In contrast to her father's job, Kristal has a side job as a babysitting, she is often sought-after by other monsters whenever she's open for business, as she's really good with children.
Personality
Despite the negative circumstances regarding the death of her mother and her father's job, she is bright, cheery, and jolly. She loves to spread holiday cheer and happiness towards others whether it be through singing, sharing baked goods, or throwing Christmas parties. She's also kind and generous to others, even to humans. And despite the nature of her father's duty, she's actually really good with children, acting very motherly towards them, to the point where she is a heavily sought-after babysitter. She also has a strong sense of right and wrong (albeit it being rather black and white), as she will always be the first to call out behavior that is seen as reprehensible.
However, even the holly and jolly have their flaws. Kristal's cheerfulness can cross the line into becoming annoying, even if she never intended to be so. As mentioned before, her views on morality is black-and-white, she believes that every decision and action is either "naughty" or "nice", and there is rarely room for an in-between. She can also get pretty upset rather quickly when she makes mistakes or if things don't go according to plan. Her love for Christmas can also be a bit obsessive.
Trivia/Additional Information
She does not do well in warm weather, often sweating more than the average person/monster.
Kristal's birthday is December 5th, which is also Krampusnacht, the day when Krampus is said to come and visit children. It is also a holiday where people dress up in Krampus costumes and roam the streets, scaring those in their path. This also makes her a Sagittarius.
Krampus used to take some pleasure in it's job, but once he had Kristal, he started to hate it, he only does the job because he has to, and so that Kristal wouldn't be alone. In fact, he actually dotes on her, since he doesn't want his child to grow up miserable and feeling unloved due to the dead mom thing (she died from an illness when Kristal was very young) and the nature of his job.
Kristal's headcanon voice is Kate Higgins, specifically her Pauline voice. She shares a voice actress with Frankie Stein, Catrine DeMew, Iris Clops, and Lilith Van Hellscream.
Originally, her name was going to be Greta, this was changed to Kristal, as "Kristal" started with a K like her father, and it also has "Kris" in the name, as in "Kris Kringle", one of Santa's various names.

Christmas with Kylo and the knights of ren PLS
i was just talking to my best friend about this but i always imagined an all black christmas when it comes to kylo and his knights 🖤 maybe some red details thrown in just to make it at least a little bright for his little star
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
enjoy these head canons
the extravagance isnt lost on anyone invited to an exclusive party and kylo is very selective on those less likely to piss him off
he usually picks a new place for the party so it won’t be the same and no one can try to weasel their way in without him knowing. however; the punishment for disobedience is something no one would want to meddle around with.
everyone in the First Order wants to be invited but no outside guests are allowed unless you are closely tied to one of his knights or he needs to keep you close for something
although he tries to hide his excitement, just seeing how thorough he thought over every detail and decoration gives him away and makes your heart melt because it’s the one holiday you can see a lighter side of him
insists on wrapping his gifts himself because he can’t trust his knights (who love you) to not spill the beans on what he got you
the knights giddily watch you open their gifts to you like puppies. it’s usually a beautiful weapon or something violent you would never want but love because it came from them (you drop almost every gift like a hot potato and apologize profusely each time)
kylo watched you himself with a secretive smirk, affection pouring off of him in waves
kylo wears all black of course, but opts for an all black suit per your request with a deep red tie. you’re “a sucker for a man in a good suit” you’d said once and he never forgot it.
he looks ravishing and it’s hard to keep your eye off of him most of the night, toying with his tie when no one is looking to embarrass him, pecking his cheek with a kiss when he takes a sip of his drink, teasing him under the table during dinner, pushing his hair back into place when he gets too rowdy with his knights
his tie has your name stitched on the underside with a small star, and even if no one knows it, it makes you feel special that you could do something so obviously claiming on him and have him accept and wear it openly.
you are wearing a red dress that matches his tie, form fitting with a slit up the leg that goes all the way to your hip — dangerous in a room full of strong powerful men, but your nerves are eased when looking to kylo who watches you close, hungry, waiting. you belong to one man and one man alone - the one who looks like he might rip off that dress and fuck you right in front of his men if you aren’t careful
gives in to your christmas music request only if it’s strictly instrumentals - he can’t stand the cheesy shit and you know he’s stop it in an instant. holly jolly smash his fucking brains in whenever he hears those ridiculous jingles. he can deal with swelling music and ballads for a few hours.
the knights makes you dance to their ridiculous fast paced music when they take a stand and take the music control for a few songs - and you have the time of your life being tossed around (carefully of course) between all of them while squealing and giggling
when it’s time to open presents kylo stands up to grab all of your presents for you and places them on your lap, each one wrapped in plain black wrapping paper and ribbon with some greenery that’s very out of character and soft for him - but you choose not to tease him in front of his men.
you tear carefully at the paper, not wanting to ruin something he works so hard on (but also because you were swooning at the mental image of him with wrapping paper, scissors, and tape doing all of this for you)
he watches your face close for any reaction good or bad and is thrilled beyond his lucky stars that you’re tearing up and grinning at him like a love struck fool - leaning forward to wrap your arms around his neck and pull him in close for a kiss. you give him one kiss for every 15 presents he got you - each one more extravagant and meaningful than the last
you kiss across both of his cheeks, down his aquiline nose, up his jaw and back to his plush lips patiently waiting for you
prying eyes are looking between each other at the forward display of affection, shocked that he’s allowing even a fraction of his guard down but somehow comforted by the example of his humanity
you all eat at a long table set for each guest, kylo at the head of the table and you right next to him of course. you would have sat at the other end that now sat empty, but didn’t think you’d be able to be that far from him even through just the meal
he loosens up with each drink, his hand travels around your waist to hold you close. at times his fingers twirl at your curls. he even lets you feed him a christmas cookie after about six drinks.
i’m in love with all of this omg i got a little carried away but hopefully you get the picture 🖤❤️‍🔥 kylo and his little star have a wonderful christmas and it’s all you wished for

good adventure time episodes to rewatch?
you're asking me to pinpoint some good rewatchable eps out of the 284 that are in the show?
here are my favourites to just randomly rewatch from time to time, mostly when they were popping up on youtube recs last year (and certainly DOES NOT include all plot relevant eps):
Season 1: Slumber Party Panic The Enchiridion My Two Favourite People Dungeon <- top tier AT The Duke <- deadly funny Rainy Day Daydream Ocean of Fear The Witch's Garden City of Thieves What Is Life? A lot of eps in season 1 are charming and nostalgic but not exactly great. IMO the heart of the season is Jake looking out for his easily stressed out kid brother, and Finn pulling Jake back into reality when he gets carried away with his imagination. Which is why season 2 starts off pretty weak imo - too many eps where Finn gets tortured while Jake's fucking around. Season 2: It Came from the Nightosphere The Eyes <- was surprised at how funny this was The Other Tarts Belly of the Beast Susan Strong <- aged somewhat, but i used to be obsessed Mystery Train Death in Bloom Chamber of Frozen Blades The Real You <- classic, weird characterisation of PB tho Go With Me <- this one has aged remarkably well, it's so funny The Limit Guardians of Sunshine Video Makers Mortal Folly/Recoil <- used to rewatch these a lot but not so much recently, there are better Lich eps now, Recoil is hilarious though Season 2 has so many fun eps that are good to watch at any point, i actually gave up on writing reviews for each one because i realised i wouldn't be able to do it justice. Check out my tag: #adventure-time-reviewed
Seasons 3 through to the Finale under the cut.
Season 3: Morituri Te Salutamus Memory of a Memory <- my favourite marceline-focused ep in the entire series, including/because of? distant lands Hitman <- someone got hit in the boingloings Too Young <- call me crazy but this is actually a fun episode once you get past the weird shipping and mischaracterisation of PB Wizard Battle What Was Missing <- recently wrote a tumblr article about this, it's not only historical but also very fun to watch, you already know that though Apple Thief The Creeps No One Can Hear You Jake vs Me Mow Thank You <- show anyone this The New Frontier <- very relevant Marceline's Closet <- i have to be in the mood for this one. a lot of it is cringe. a lot of it is super funny. Dad's Dungeon <- another one that used to be on my phone like 10 years ago to show my friends. Ghost Princess
sorry a lot of arrows here. but yeah, season 3 is a good one. There's a lot I thought about but excluded. Incendium is OK but there's too much of Finn crying which I find very grating. From Bad To Worse is a funny, but it's overshadowed by how good the other horror eps were this season. Holly Jolly Secrets is actually really aggravating to watch and I won't touch it again until my next rewatch, in fact, I might even skip it. There are much better Ice King eps in season 3, like Hitman, and there's plenty of Simon later on.
Season 4:
Hug Wolf Goliad <- the first Herpich great, IMO. Beyond this Earthly Realm <- forgotten gem Princess Cookie Card Wars Sons of Mars <- an all time best episode Lady & Peebles <- hard to stomach, but has aged sooo well, the first ep of the series where you hear PB's "real" voice I Remember You The Lich <- probably the best season finale in the show A lot less for season 4, actually. The highs this season hits are unprecedented, the list here is some of the best content in AT, but there weren't as many eps where I went "oh my god, i HAVE to rewatch that". The start of s4 was particularly forgettable. I have no reason to touch 8 of the first 10 eps again. I nearly put "Gotcha" here but actually that ep aggravates me just as much as it entertains me. Season 5:
Finn the Human/Jake the Dog <- second-greatest season premiere, interesting to look at again now we know more about the lore All the Little People <- not on my personal casual rewatch list, it's too hard to stomach. but a lot of people are fascinated by it. Mystery Dungeon Bad Little Boy <- the only fionna and cake ep still good in 2021 Simon and Marcy A Glitch is a Glitch <- funny Puhoy James Baxter the Horse <- the last ep Pen worked on as creative director, he also co boarded it The Suitor <- an unpopular choice but i love this ep Candy Streets Wizards Only, Fools Sky Witch <- one of the best PB eps tbh Earth and Water <- out of place but funniest ep in Finn's romance arc Time Sandwich <- an all time fun ep The Vault <- my favourite ep in the series and a good standalone too Love Games Dungeon Train We Fixed a Truck <- this ep is chaos Root Beer Guy <- still great if you can look past how his arc went Apple Wedding <- 50 50 on this one but when it came out I thought it was the funniest thing ever Rattleballs Bad Timing <- banger, made me drink Lemonhope Part 1 and 2 <- banger, made me think Billy's Bucket List <- banger, made me cry This list is season 5.2 heavy because, to simply put it, Pen's season 5.1 was running out of material and had a lack for good episodes. When Adam took over for 5.2 things really amped up, and after the initial fallout of Finn's romance arc, you got good ep after good ep after good ep. The final 3/4 eps in particular are fucking outstanding and it's part 1 of IMO the series' high point, which was Bad Timing to The Tower. Season 6
Wake Up/Escape from the Citadel <- EASILY the best premiere James II <- much needed levity during this arc The Tower Food Chain <- favourite s6 ep Little Brother Is That You? Thanks for the Crabapples, Giuseppe Princess Day <- some people hate this ep but i think it's fun Nemesis <- ugh so good and underrated. i like how PB is losing it like a saturday cartoon villain while Pep is a coolheaded mastermind villain. The Cooler <- not funny enough for my casual rewatch but ive talked at length about it Joshua & Margaret Investigations Ghost Fly Everything's Jake Jake the Brick Dentist The Pajama War Evergreen Astral Plane <- i used to hate this ep but now i think about it a lot, chill vibes The Mountain Jermaine <- legit great ep Chips and Ice Cream <- maybe im too much like bmo but this ep made me cry You Forgot Your Floaties <- like Astral Plane it depends on the viewer being in the mood to have some stuff stay over their head. Orgalorg Hot Diggety Doom/The Comet <- a fan favourite season finale. Season 6 is a funny one because there are actually quite a few eps that I don't remember fondly, but fit well on this list. It's a season that has tons of amazing standalone eps but the lack of focus, and general disappointment compared to its amazing start, makes it super divisive. A lot of people left after "Breezy", and many more drifted away after the increasing hiatuses, bombs, and how the episodes airing just didn't have anything to do with the characters we loved. Namely, the abysmal lack of Marceline, or eps with Finn and Jake. The good news is Season 7 would immediately solve most of these problems. Season 7 Don't even need to check wikipedia for half of these. This is the original structuring by the way, not the reworked 10 seasons version. Varmints <- an all time best Mama Said Cherry Cream Soda <- weird characterisation but pretty fun All of Stakes <- most rewatchable is the second half, easily. Take Her Back is probably the best ep. Angel Face Blank Eyed Girl <- first cartoony horror ep in forever, love it King's Ransom Crossover <- you might cry Hall of Egress <- if someone asked me what "the best episode of Adventure Time" is, I would usually say "objectively this one". Show it to all of your friends. Flute Spell The Thin Yellow Line <- a personal favourite, Lyle Partridge's graffiti is mesmerizing Broke His Crown <- the one episode I've rewatched the most in the entire show possibly???? funniest characterisation of PB hands down. Don't Look Beyond the Grotto Lady Rainicorn of the Crystal Dimension I Am A Sword Bun Bun <- the Character Development episode Normal Man <- often voted "funniest episode of the show", deserves it Elemental <- i just really like Patience and PB riffing off each other The Music Hole <3 <3 <3 Preboot <- I actually like this one way more than Reboot. I don't like Reboot. A bit too weird.
Season 7 might just be the best in the show. It has few to none of the drawbacks of other seasons, it has some of the all time best eps. It's namely where the emotional side of AT comes back in for the first time since season 4. Everyone does some growing up and you get payoff for all the terrible shit they did earlier on. Everyone becomes friends again after the past few seasons of tension. The original Season 8 is also great but because it's 2 miniseries stapled together, there's no amazing standalone eps like Hall of Egress. And season 9 (CN's season 10) is so tied in to its greater continuity, one which I didn't enjoy much, that there are no remarkable eps at all. Let's give some recs for them anyway! Season 8
Two Swords/Do No Harm <- not eps I personally come back to much but I love how they set out Finn's approach to Fern and his acceptance of his new arm. Wheels High Strangeness <- my favourite ep in this entire season, best Tree Trunks ep, one of the best PB eps, i find something new every time i read the storyboard, it's so crazy Jellybeans Have Power <- obvious choice Islands <- the entire tone of the miniseries is great. the best eps are The Invitation, Imaginary Resources, Min and Martin, Hide and Seek. Elements <- unlike the other miniseries, this one is a banger in EVERY episode, except for skyhooks II, i didn't like how it ended, but seriously i love Elements so much, you can take any ep from it and enjoy it standalone. most rewatchable by far. Bespoken For and Cloudy might be the most interesting. Abstract <- thematically similar to jellybeans have power but with a positive outcome Ketchup Whispers/Three Buckets <- this is the season finale that got be back into Adventure Time
All of season 8 is a banger but like I said there's nothing which jumps out that would make you watch it standalone, apart from IMO High Strangeness, Wheels, and Abstract. The other eps are so intricately connected that it's hard to just go watch them, but the Elements miniseries is at least so good that I'd take any ep from it and enjoy it, even if the miniseries doesn't have the revelations and powerful overarching themes of the other two. Unfortunately S8 houses one of the worst eps of the series - "Fionna, Cake and Fionna". You can imagine my horror when I learnt there is a spinoff being made based on the worst plot point of that ep?????
Season 9
The Wild Hunt <- best story ep of the season Always BMO Closing <- surprisingly fun, Gumbald's best showing Son of Rap Bear <- i actually love this ep as closure to FP's arc. it's not mindblowing but it touches on a lot of holes for her character, revisiting her issues of naivete and not knowing much about the world, which had been ignored later on. Bonnibel Bubblegum <- surprisingly i only like the first half of this ep. the rest is fascinating for analysis but i just don't enjoy it. too weird. Seventeen <- this ep is really stupid but it's funny in a jarring way. i love finn being a dumbass, pb having the 1 brain cell, while fern just laughs mockingly. Ring of Fire <- best standalone ep of the season????? The First Investigation Blenanas <- i dont have time to explain the psychology of humor to you *smashes window* Temple of Mars <- would you watch this by itself? idk Come Along With Me <- ive rewatched the second part countless times since it has the most going on, until i started liking it I've just listed like 10 of the season's 13 eps... nice.... okay, i'll list why i DIDN'T include some. i don't like marcy and hunson because it's queerbaity as fuck in the worst way. it's an insult this late in the series. i have elaborated before. if you ask i'll dig up the posts about it. Jake the Starchild is one that's not offensively bad but is a very disappointing answer to the Jake's Dad question, in a season already packed with like 3 other bad dads before that point.
Gumbaldia is actually decent enough, i'm thinking of adding it in, but it heavily involves the Gum family, who I don't like. It has a weird conflict between Finn and PB which I'm not a fan of because it didn't get fleshed out enough on both sides. And once again it's so story-involved that I'm not sure I can rec it as standalone.
That's actually most of my issues with season 9 summed up just in describing Gumbaldia. Just apply that description to the entire thing. Unfortunately there's nothing in S9 that i feel i HAVE to watch, other than segments from the finale, and the opening few minutes of Bonnibel Bubblegum which are jam packed with apocalypse stuff. I don't watch any of it for leisure.
So yeah with that I'd say the worst season for rewatching random eps is 9 and the best season is season 7!! which, makes sense, because most clips I rewatch are from season 7. it's just the greatest.

Warnings: angst, past break up
Your real dad
-
Steve tightened his grip around your draw-string bag that he had convinced you to part ways with, as you, him and your mother made your way into the tower. He was dreading the reunion with Bucky after not seeing the team for about 2 weeks. You were practically bouncing on your feet to see your real dad. While Steve was there watching you treat your dad like a hero but not even spare him a glance.
Your family relationship was complicated yet simple at the same time: you hated your mom but tolerated her, loved your dad with all your heart, hated your stepdad as much as he tried, treated Peter like your brother and Thor exactly like your uncle.
Why did you hate your stepdad so much?
Well, first of all, he pretended like he was your real dad and tried to do all of the things with you that you and Bucky did together. Second, he always stole all your moms attention and made you feel like you were alone (whether he meant it or not)
The elevator door dinged, indicating that the three of you had reached your floor where currently Bucky, Thor, Tony, Natasha and Sam were hanging out, waiting for your “family”. The others were in the kitchen, trying to get a sneak taste of the food that had been ordered.
“Dad!” You yelled and raced up to the super soldier, he broke out into a grin and picked you up off the ground to invade you into a bone-breakinghug. “Hiya doll face.”
You grinned back at him and got down from his arms briefly to run across the room to retrieve your drawstring back so you could show your dad your new spiderman action figure that had been bought by your cousin Peter.
“Look! Look!”
He smirked slightly at your excited demeanour as you held up the toy as high as you could while jumping up and down for him to see. Once he’d figured out who the character was, you had already gone running off to see what Wanda and Vision had baked in one of the many kitchens.
“Hey Buck” Steve acknowledged as friendly as he could, it wasn’t that the two ‘friends’ hated each other, but there was definitely some tension in the room as the two sat parallel. Tony cleared his throat and mentioned something about having a cough as he quickly left the room.
“I better see where he got off to” Natasha and your mother said at exactly the same time, not wanting to experience what they thought was about to go down.
“Hi Steve” the older soldier greeted back, not sure what the intentions of the conversation were exactly. In the tower, the history between both soldiers and your mother was known but not really spoke of- Bucky dated your mother for quite a while (almost four entire years), and got her pregnant with you, but- as everybody was sure to know- all good things must come to an end- and the two broke up on good terms. That was before Steve Rogers himself got involved at a certain billionaire’s party when they realized they were (and this is in your mother's words) “meant for each other.”
“I’m erm, here to speak to you about something.” As if the awkwardness present in the room was no longer enough before, by now it was almost too much. Thor and Sam took the most obvious hint and left the room in search of something else to occupy their time.
“Well, you’re free to speak-“ Bucky was interrupted by the loud sound of laughing from behind the wooden door and almost instantly after a hushing sound. The two men had completely different reactions to this, Steve was utmostly confused, both eyebrows scrunching together, while Bucky’s face held a small smile. He knew exactly who was trying to eavesdrop and it just proved how much Steve did not know his stepdaughter from the fact he didn’t immediately know. “(Y/N),” he called out, the humour evident in his voice, “Parker, we know you're out there.”
“Awww, Peter you gave our secret identities up!”
By now Steve had caught on to the two of you and laughed lightly, trying to cover up the fact that his only chance to ask Bucky his question alone, was interrupted.
The wooden door creaked open, revealing Peter, dressed up in his spiderman suit for dramatic effect and you with a bandana on, which you thought made you look like a ninja and you held your action figure tightly in your left hand.
“(Y/N), you know it’s rude to eavesdrop” Steve scolded you, trying to be firm. You ignored him and shrugged your shoulders before going to follow the scent of Chinese food.
“Doll,” your dad stopped you “don’t ignore people, you know not to do that” he stood up from his spot on the sofa and began to also make his way to the kitchen, you right beside him muttering a small “okay dad.”
Steve tried not to let his heart sink as his best friend walked away. He would just have to try and get Bucky alone at another point in the night. If he didn’t get an answer, then he would have no use for the small box that was sitting in his trouser pocket.
“Bonjour,” Clint greeted the two of you as you both arrived for food, the island set up with enough plastic plates for everyone (Tony couldn’t be bothered with hiring people to wash normal, expensive ones multiple times a day)
Your mother smiled at you from the other side of the kitchen, but she was immediately confused when you didn’t smile back. The reason you had not, is because you had a feeling you knew exactly what question your stepdad had for Bucky and did not at all like the sound of it.
“Fries?” Bruce offered, tilting the box of food towards you. You nodded gratefully and grabbed a handful. The conversations at the table were mixed; Thor ranting passionately about the food at his home planet, Tony mumbling something about not even being hungry anyway (you thought he was just being salty since he didn’t get his Shawarma), Bucky and Sam having a silent argument across the table, and Peter was busy singing Christmas songs in his best Santa Claus voice.
“Have a holly jolly Christmas, and in case you didn’t seeeee” Natasha rolled her eyes dramatically at the teenager making everyone laugh.
“Hey don’t get annoyed at me! Everyone loves Christmas!”
You used to love Christmas before your parents separated and you weren’t allowed to spend the holiday with your dad.
“I don’t like Christmas,” your dad shrugged half mindedly while taking a sip of his soda. Peter looked at him like he had two heads and exclaimed in shock, “that impossible!”
“It ain’t kid,” Bucky chuckled while your mother shifted in her seat uncomfortably, realizing the reasoning.
While you worked your way through the pile of noodles, Thor’s incessant ranting came to an end, and the teenager had seemingly run out of songs, the group of superheroes decided to hang out in the living room and watch a movie before you, Steve and your mother had to go home.
“Which one?” Nat asked the room while holding up two movies, the nightmare before Christmas and the corpse bride. Both Halloween movies, neither particularly scary.
“How could one have a nightmare on the day before Christmas? Surely that is against the rules of the Holiday Christmas, that is based on happiness?” Thor asked, earning a quizzical look from you. “Stop tryna act like Shakespeare big man” Tony laughed while grabbing a handful of popcorn and shoving it all into his mouth.
Steve ignored the billionaire, and while no one seemed to be paying attention he directed his attention to Bucky, swallowing nervously. “Hey Buck, can I speak to you for a sec outside?”
Confusion spread over the soldier’s face for a split second before complying and getting up from the couch with Steve as discreetly as possible as to not raise suspicion from the rest of the team and you.
“What’s up?” He asked once they’d reached the hallway outside, he didn’t know what was up with the younger man but he could easily tell that he’d been acting nervous around himself and your mom.
“Um, I have a question, you don’t have to say yes or no or anything-“
“Your ranting.”
He stopped and thought for a second, wondering how to put it. “I know it’s been complicated recently, and I know this might make it worse with all your history with (Y/M/N) and (Y/N) but I really do love both of them and since (Y/M/N)’s parents passed a while ago, there’s no one to really ask for their blessing so I guess I’m here to ask you, can I have your blessing to propose to (Y/M/N)?”
Bucky stood emotionless for a second, not knowing how to react. He wasn’t sure whether to be happy for Steve and support him or to be angry. He had both reasonable attributes for each option but was cut short when he heard the sound of a door banging against its hinges on the floor above.
Both of your dad’s eyebrows scrunched together, who was that? Everyone in the tower knew not to do it because Tony despised it, and everyone with a brain knew that when Tony got annoyed, bad things happened.
Then almost instantly after the door entering the living room revealing an awkward Loki “I’m sorry to interrupt this conversation but your daughter slash stepdaughter, just ran upstairs in tears so if you could quickly wrap this little moment up, it would be greatly appreciated”
Bucky’s heart stopped, why were you crying?
He and Steve completely forgot about their previous conversation and quickly headed upstairs, nearly running Peter over in the process coming from the toilet. But just as they reached the door where you normally stayed when you came for sleepovers, Bucky stopped and put a finger to his lips.
“I think I should go in.” Instead of arguing, and saying that it would be good ‘bonding time’ to get you to like him, Steve silently agreed and let your dad go in.
“Hey, sweetheart,” he gently closed the door behind himself, instantly catching sight of you sat on the carpeted floor, furiously wiping your eyes with the sleeve of your hoodie.
“Hey, hey, don’t hurt yourself,” he took ahold of both of your wrists and set them down on your lap, “why’re you crying doll?”
Tears continued to stream unapologetically down your cheeks, you didn’t know how to tell him. That you had snuck out of the living room to see where the two had gone and then eavesdropped into their conversation, and once hearing your stepdad (who you did not like at all) was going to become a permanent part of your life, ran off crying.
“I don’t wanna talk about it” you shook your head, making him sigh. “Please tell me, I wanna know why. You trust me right (Y/N)?”
The simple nod was all he needed, yet his heart still ached. Seeing his only daughter in tears and didn’t trust him enough to tell him why? It was heartbreaking for him. “I don’t want him to marry mom,” you quietly admitted, “the only reason I’m still allowed to see you is because she thinks I still need a father figure, so now he’s gonna be here forever I won’t be- I won’t be able to see you anymore.”
He sighed deeply, trying to find a way to comfort you. “You will, I promise. I’ll always be apart of your life doll. No one can ever take you away from me because you're my daughter and I love you so so much, m’kay?”
You sniffled and wiped the final tears from your cheeks. “Okay.”
Before you could both get up and return downstairs to finish the movie, Bucky stopped you and lifted you up to whisper something to you.
Once he had finished you pulled back and nodded hesitantly, realizing that you should put your grudge behind you and face a fear.
Your dad and you returned outside, Steve waiting patiently while resting on the wall, gently smiling at you to make sure you were okay.
“Go on doll,” Bucky quietly urged, making you take a deep breath and just go for it.
“I give you my blessing to marry mom.” Steve’s heart skipped multiple beats as his brain tried to process what you had said. You’d finally accepted him into your life?
He broke out into a grin, trying to form words to thank you without seeming like this meant the absolute world to him. “Thank you (Y/N). I appreciate it so much.”
Bucky was proud of you for taking a leap and letting Steve into your life when you were scared. He realized at that moment that even if you did have a dad and a stepdad at the same time, he’d fulfilled his role already.

Holiday Humors: Romance Recs
The Matzah Ball by Jean Meltzer
Oy! to the world Rachel Rubenstein-Goldblatt is a nice Jewish girl with a shameful secret: she loves Christmas. For a decade she’s hidden her career as a Christmas romance novelist from her family. Her talent has made her a bestseller even as her chronic illness has always kept the kind of love she writes about out of reach. But when her diversity-conscious publisher insists she write a Hanukkah romance, her well of inspiration suddenly runs dry. Hanukkah’s not magical. It’s not merry. It’s not Christmas. Desperate not to lose her contract, Rachel’s determined to find her muse at the Matzah Ball, a Jewish music celebration on the last night of Hanukkah, even if it means working with her summer camp archenemy—Jacob Greenberg. Though Rachel and Jacob haven’t seen each other since they were kids, their grudge still glows brighter than a menorah. But as they spend more time together, Rachel finds herself drawn to Hanukkah—and Jacob—in a way she never expected. Maybe this holiday of lights will be the spark she needed to set her heart ablaze.
The Holiday Swap by Maggie Knox
All they want for Christmas is a different life. When chef Charlie Goodwin gets hit on the head on the L.A. set of her reality baking show, she loses a lot more than consciousness; she also loses her ability to taste and smell--both critical to her success as show judge. Meanwhile, Charlie's identical twin, Cass, is frantically trying to hold her own life together back in their quaint mountain hometown while running the family's bustling bakery and dealing with her ex, who won't get the memo that they're over. With only days until Christmas, a desperate Charlie asks Cass to do something they haven't done since they were kids: switch places. Looking for her own escape from reality, Cass agrees. But temporarily trading lives proves more complicated than they imagined, especially when rugged firefighter Jake Greenman and gorgeous physician's assistant Miguel Rodriguez are thrown into the mix. Will the twins' identity swap be a recipe for disaster, or does it have all the right ingredients for getting their lives back on track?

One type-A data analyst discovers her free-spirited side on an impulsive journey from bustling Mumbai to the gorgeous beaches of Goa and finds love waiting for her on Christmas morning. Twenty-nine-year-old Niki Randhawa has always made practical decisions. Despite her love for music and art, she became an analyst for the stability. She's always stuck close to home, in case her family needed her. And she's always dated guys that seem good on paper, rather than the ones who give her butterflies. When she's laid off, Niki realizes that practical hasn't exactly paid off for her. So for the first time ever, she throws caution to the wind and books a last-minute flight for her friend Diya's wedding. Niki arrives in India just in time to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, where she meets London musician Sameer Mukherji. Maybe it's the splendor of Mumbai or the magic of the holiday season, but Niki is immediately drawn to Sam. At the wedding, the champagne flows and their flirtatious banter makes it clear that the attraction is mutual. When Niki and Sam join Diya, her husband and their friends on a group honeymoon, their connection grows deeper. Free-spirited Sam helps Niki get in touch with her passionate and creative side, and with her Indian roots. When she gets a new job offer back home, Niki must decide what she wants out of the next chapter of her life--to cling to the straight and narrow like always, or to take a leap of faith and live the kind of bold life the old Niki never would have dreamed of.
It Started with a Dog by Julia London
All Harper Thompson wants for Christmas is the huge promotion she's worked so hard for--which she should get, as long as her launch of the hip new coffeehouse, Deja Brew, goes according to plan. Jonah Rogers is trying to save his family's coffee shop, Lucky Star, from going out of business, which will be tough with the brand-new Deja Brew opening across the street. When Jonah and Harper meet for the first time after accidentally swapping phones, their chemistry is as electric as a strand of Christmas lights. He's a tall, handsome, compassionate hunk of engineer, and she's an entrepreneur whose zest for life is very sexy. They love all the same things, like scary movies, greasy food--and most of all, dogs. It's a match made in heaven...until Jonah finds out that Harper's the one about to put him out of business. Only one coffee shop likely can survive, and a competition of one-upmanship ensues in a battle of the brews. The paws really come out when the local rescue shelter has a fundraiser where local businesses foster dogs, and patrons vote with their dollars for their favorite pup. Harper takes in an adorable old bulldog on behalf of Deja Brew, while Jonah fosters a perky three-legged dachshund for Lucky Star. As the excitement builds for who will be crowned King Mutt and king of the coffee hill, Harper and Jonah must decide if their connection was all steam or if they are the perfect blend.

ho ho heyyyyyy <3
itsa me, santa!! here on this awesome (joshua michael) monday, december 6th.
about your last answer... i completely understand because im the exact same way!! i havent read a real, new book in quite some time - mostly fanfic and random amazon uhhhhhh spicy novels/series. anything i have read recently has just been me rereading those same classics - twilight, the selection series, pjo/hoo, ya know... or some of my other older favs.
i dont really have any new, fancy, and/or fun book recs :(((( buttttt out of my fav comfort books i highly recommend “between shades of gray” & “out of the easy” by ruta sepetys if you havent read them!! theyre historical fiction. any of huntley fitzpatrick’s books are good, theyre a little fluffy but have 10x the depth any sarah dessen book could ever have. and “eleanor & park” makes me cry every time!! ooo and the “american royals” series (current duology but i think getting a third?) is soooo good, multiple perspectives and all are really well characterized. theyre all ya lit but honestly just so good, fairly easy to read but still well written and make you actually want to keep reading.
anywayssssss enough about my fav books i want to hear about you!!! and since i know im later than usual sending my message - (im so sorry pls forgive me, i didnt forget u i promise, it just got a little busy up here in the north pole) - im just gonna throw some easy(ish) questions at ya...
questions of the day:
1. why are you in dannys lane? and what do you love about him?
2. what trope(s) is your favorite to write in fanfiction for you? and why?
i hope your day has been very holly jolly!!! 🎄 and as always... remember santa loves u<3
🎅🏼
#26
(also santa belongs to a sarah dessen hate club... im so sorry but its the truth😞. and major apologies none of my suggestions are fantasy😩)
Good morning Secret Santa!! Unfortunately I wasn’t having the best night last night and I fell asleep before I saw your notification but that’s okay!! I’m already having a better morning answering these questions, so let me be the first to say happy (Jacob Thomas) Tuesday to you!!
Honestly it was really affirming to see that you too have slowed down on the physical books in recent years. I get a lot of flack from my older brother, who is very much still a book boy, for not being “into actual reading anymore.” I’m definitely going to look into your suggestions though- I love historical fiction, my senior thesis screenplay was a historical fiction!!
Well let’s get into this because quite honestly, Santa, I could talk your ear off all morning about both Danny and fanfic tropes.
I don’t know what it is about him. I’d liken it to the way I feel about cats vs. dogs, the way I feel about him vs. the Kiszkas. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs. If I see a dog on the street I will 9/10 times point it out. Dogs make me very happy and sometimes a cute enough dog will come around to get me really excited. But when I see a cat— any cat— my heart just melts into a puddle. I literally have, like, tunnel vision focus on that cat until it leaves the vicinity because I immediately love it and want to give it affection. Basically my heart could burst when I see any given cat ever. Yes, this makes living in a city quite the emotional rollercoaster.
But that’s the only thing I can relate how I feel about Danny to, it’s just different from the others. I’ve always been one to root for the underdog of sorts- I never have a favorite of anything who’s the expected answer (main character/protagonist, frontman, etc). I want that guy in the back who isn’t getting the love and attention he deserves. Like, across the board, every fanbase I’ve been in this has been the commonality for me. There’s something about his kind and gentle nature combined with his sense of humor that peeks out every so often and his insane talent and physical appearance that just absolutely takes my breath away every time. Plus, the fact that he’s managed to find and maintain a loving stable relationship (with THAT lifestyle) like he’s found with Mackenzi only makes me love him more, she seems like an absolute sweetheart and I couldn’t be happier that he has found love like that for himself. I can only hope I will one day; find the Danny to my Kenzi.
I’ve been reading fanfiction for a while, majority of my teenage years really, so I definitely do have some favorite tropes. I feel like this can be a very revealing question to ask, at least for me, because I always thought that the kind of fanfiction you seek out can serve as a reflection for what you want, what’s missing in your life. Starting more broadly, I’d say my favorite to write is a good friends-to-lovers. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind pre-established relationship fics, but there’s something that gets me a little more excited when I realize there’s going to be an admission of feelings by the end of the story. In a way, it’s probably because I’ve always wanted that for myself. In that same vein, I also get really excited (in a very confusing way as a feminist) to see fics with any sort of variation on the “damsel in distress” plot line. I love the idea of being rescued, saved from my dire situation by a knight in shining armor. Very classic, very cheesy, I know.
I also sometimes like fics with danger in general- somebody gets hurt on accident, or on purpose. Or even non-physical danger, like when the relationship is forbidden (but not in a im-cheating-on-my-partner-with-you way, I’m not down w that). I want the stakes to be high, ya know? I’ve never been super into writing the more slice-of-life fics, I need that plot structure. Finally, to get more specific, I’m an absolute sucker for a soulmates!AU, or anything with a supernatural element. Like I mentioned before, my reading foundation before I found fanfiction was fantasy novels, so whenever I find a fic that marries both I get extra excited (like how excited I get when I get a Lost Boys notification from @tlexx). The real perfect marriage was the couple years when I was writing and reading fanfiction for Teen Wolf around like 2014. That was really interesting because the stakes could literally be life or death and you didn’t have to write a ton of prior circumstance to get there, it’s just part of the show.
Thank you again for these questions, I don’t really share this hobby of mine with a lot of people irl so I don’t really get asked about things like this but both are things I spend time considering! I’ve been really looking forward to getting your messages this past week, so thank you Santa❣️
also omg I completely forgot about the selection series I absolutely read those too

Spreading Christmas Cheer
Tumblr media
Author: @mega-aulover
Prompt: Everlark the movie Elf [submitted by @alliswell21]
Rating: G
Author’s Note: This is a story based off of the movie Elf as requested by @alliswell21 It’s from “Jovie” i.e. Katniss POV, what she would have seen and fell in love with one Peeta ‘Buddy’ Mellark.
Special thanks to @norbertsmom for her betaing skill and for the name of the story. Parts 3 and 4 will post separately.
_____________
Pt 1
I watch Peeta gently kiss the top of our first born’s head. Holly’s dark hair is braided into two plaits; her blue eyes closing softly.
“And Papa Elf said, grandpa was on the naughty list…” his voice is soft.
Suddenly Holly’s eyes widen as she remembers something. Her blue eyes are laser focused on Peeta. “Papá, es verdad que mamá estaba en la  lista de los niños malos?”
“Y quien te dijo esto?” I ask from the door. We never discuss my role in Peeta’s adventure, or the fact that I was on the naughty list. Ever.
“Santa,” Holly says.
Ese gordo, Santa has loose lips. I think about teaching him about keeping secrets until it’s time to explain to our child about the past. But before I can say anything, Peeta gives me a look. He always knows when I’m having evil thoughts. I sigh, and redirect my thoughts, because Peeta made me believe in love, joy, and Christmas.
“Your papa saved more than grandpa that Christmas. He saved me too.”
Holly’s eyes lit up like her father’s before the sleepiness creeps back into their depths.
“Now go to sleep so Santa can come down the chimney.”
“Night, mama, night papa,” Holly whispers right before she drifts off to sleep.
Together we walk out of our daughters bedroom. Peeta slides an arm around my shoulders. He dips down and nuzzles my cheek. He steers me to the living room. I drag my feet. Peeta is up to something.
“Okay, spill it, Mellark.”
He gives me a wide eyed smile.
The hair at the back of my neck stands up straight.
He’s got that look, that please tell me a bedtime story stare, and not just any story.
“No.”
Peeta pauses and gives me a puppy dog look with a full lip pout.
“No.”
“Come on, Sweetums, my li’l sugar plum,” Peeta says in an excited whisper.
“No…no don’t waggle your eyebrows at me, Peeta. Buddy. Mellark.” I pronounce each one of his names.
Peeta’s grins so brightly; his eyes shine brighter than Christmas lights. His hat is slightly crooked as he hops and does that stupid little dance of his that makes me want to tear off his green tights. Yep, I said tights. My husband was raised as an elf, a six foot two, blond, wavy haired, giant with broad shoulders, washboard abs, and is genuinely sweet. Sweeter than eggnog.
He grabs me by the waist. “You know you wanna,” he says in that sexy time voice of his that’s reserved only for me.
Canasto!
I should clarify for everyone listening to my tale; you should know canasto isn’t a vulgar or bad word. It means basket. But I like the way it sounds in Spanish. So I say it with real vehemence. It’s like peaches in Spanish sounds like a curse word. Melocotón! Tu eres un Melocotón! Which translates into you’re a peach.
I digress.
I let out a big sigh. There’s no way I can say no to him and he knows it! Canasto!
“I love it when you tell the story of how we met from your point of view.“
"You’re an evil gremlin,” I say with no heat in my voice. It’s my personal nickname for him. As in the gremlins when they ate after midnight. However to be fair, if you see Peeta, he’s not scary at all, he’s more like a big teddy bear.
Peeta laughs and my heart flip flops. Because he is anything but; he is so congenial.
Peeta puts his hands on my belly, my very big belly. It’s baby number 2; actually it’s baby number two and three. They are counted as one until they’re born. I know what he’s doing, the evil gremlin! He’s trying to distract me because I’m due to give birth. I have mild pangs because I’m carrying twins and I’m nearing my due date.
He carries me and sits me on his lap. “Now start from the beginning.”
“From the candy cane forest?” I ask.
“No from your point of view,” his eyes dance gently as he rests me against his chest, rubbing my bulging belly.
“Okay,” I say quietly.
“Don’t forget to start with once upon a time,” Peeta insists, trying to contain his excitement.
“Once upon a time.”
“This is going to be good,” Peeta whispers.
“Are you going to let me tell the story?”
“Oh yea,” Peeta placed a kiss on my nose. “Go ahead.”
Closing my eyes I picture the year things changed. Because everything in my life was about others and never myself. I was always trying to be someone else, what everyone expected of me.
It’s hard being a foster kid, and getting out of the system is kind of like getting out of jail. Suddenly you have all this freedom, but you’ve been conditioned to follow all of these rules, so when you are free, you do one of two things. You get in trouble, and try to get sent into an institution; some of us call it the iron college. Or you try to keep your nose clean and learn in the school of hard knocks. In my case, I kept my head above the water for my sister’s sake.
“I love my family,” I muttered underneath my breath.
I muttered it again as my sister destroyed, no scratch that, mutilated Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas."
Did I forget to mention that I love my family?
I do. I love my family and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them, but at that moment I wanted to scratch my ears out with dull spoons.
My perfect baby sister is a smoking hot blonde runway model and the muse for Karl Lagerfeld, but she has the worst singing voice known to man. You want to torture someone, hire my sister, and have her sing to the person you want to torture. Within 3 seconds flat, she can have even the most hardened of spies spilling their guts like a canary.
The one thing I could not stand beside my sister’s singing was Christmas.
I loathed Christmas.
I was not ashamed to say it.  Every fiber of my body I hated Christmas!   If I had ever met the real Santa back then, he had better hoped that I was not holding my bow and arrow, because I would have shot him through the eye. Not that I believed in Santa then, but if I had known there was a real life Santa Claus, I’d have hunted him down, and burned the fat man’s jolly red outfit. I would then gleefully take a joy ride in his sleigh into his workshop like Bill Murray did in Groundhog Day when he allowed the groundhog to drive him off the cliff into a fiery death.
At this point you are wondering why I hated Christmas so much.
There were many reasons why the holiday was so contemptible to me. One, my father died on Christmas day. Two, my mother checked out on us that same Christmas day. The next Christmas Eve was when my sister and I were separated into different foster homes.  It took me a few months to find my six-year-old baby sister. I had been sent to a foster family who used foster kids for slave labor, to have them wipe and clean their floors while the Mrs. of the family spent the whole day in luxurious spas and getting Botox treatments, as if that was going to improve her mug.
My baby sister was luckier. Primrose was placed in a foster home in the middle of suburbia with a 2 story house with a picket fence. A woman named Cecilia and her husband Ronald had never been able to have kids, and they doted on my sister. They brought her up to be the princess she always said she was. Honestly, they were rather shocked when my twelve-year-old cynical self rolled up into their home screaming for my baby sister, Primrose. Prim came running out of nowhere and latched herself on to my leg like an octopus. Best Spring ever, so I do love the Spring.
But before you think we were reunited, we weren’t. The family that had Primrose never wanted me. And even if they did, we technically didn’t have the same last name. Primrose carried my mom’s last name while I carried my dad’s. My sister was Primrose Emmerson and I was Katniss Everdeen. Our parents had a silly agreement. They were also foster kids, so they decided that I would take dad’s name and the next one born would take our mothers name.
They didn’t have family, and her parents lived a common law marriage. Their childish decision caused havoc. There was a mix up and we weren’t processed as sisters. Plus, I never stayed in the same foster home for long so even if they wanted me, they never knew where I was, but no matter where I was, I found a way to talk to Primrose, because as long as Prim was loved and cared for, my situation didn’t matter.
After our brief reunion, I had to go back to the family that I was placed in, and my sister stayed with her family. I didn’t stay with mine for very long; I became a statistic. A rolling number on someone’s computer screen. I was bounced around from one family to another in all sorts of seedy homes.
So you can see why I’m so jaded. Every bad thing that ever happened to me, has happened on that freakin’ holiday. And there was one more reason I disliked that holly jolly holiday so immensely. For some reason, the universe hated me.
No matter where I went, what city, what town within the state, I could guarantee you that it was a racket, a billion dollar racket to make parents crazy and buy things for their kids they didn’t need. For some reason, it pleased people to take my olive skin, dark hair, scowling self and put me into a sparkly Christmas cheer, “gag” pointy eared elf costume.
So with a week until Christmas, I was listening to my sister butcher another holiday favorite song. Then Prim screeched. And I sighed in relief.
"Katniss,” Prim said, coming out of the bathroom. “The water is cold!”
I looked heavenward. “The pipes. I forgot they’re working on the water main outside. They said there would be interruption to service.”
“Oh, you know I can get us a hotel room,” Prim said toweling dry her pale blonde locks.
My studio apartment wasn’t what my sister was used to. She was a freaking couture runway model, six foot one, so slim nothing off the rack fit her. “I’m sorry Prim, I was so excited to see you.”
Prim smiled. “Look, I only have a few hours left. How about I treat you to lunch before I go back up to Connecticut to spend Christmas with Cecillia and Ron.” Prim smiled at me. “You know you’re more than welcome to come. They always ask about you.”
I loved my baby sister. She was amazing. And I was damned glad that the Henderson's were an amazing couple, but I knew the score. They didn’t know what to do with me. “As long as you don’t mind me wearing my elf costume.”
Primrose chuckled. “You make the cutest elf though.” She patted me on the head using a baby tone with me. Prim was taller than me by a foot. I was tiny, or as Prim said, compact size.
“I could still put you over my knee, little duck,” I growled. “Así que mira ver.”
My sister laughed and she delighted in taunting me. Prim no longer spoke Spanish, but she understood the language. “You’re adorable when you’re angry, an angry little elf, aren’t you?”
“Primrose,” I said in Spanish. I rounded my ‘r’s’ when I said her name.
“Awe, I don’t don’t get why you hate Christmas so much.” Primrose winked going to the screen divider to get dressed. My sister was used to dressing and undressing in front of dozens of people. I, on the other hand, was not so free with nudity. Primrose said I was a prude. If I hadn’t I told her to use the screen, she would have changed right in front of me.
“Did you know there are only three jobs an elf can have,” Prim said from over the screen.
I sighed. Unlike me, Primrose loved Christmas. Hell, she even suggested that there might be a real Santa Claus. I told her the only people who look for ways to sneak into people’s houses were criminals.
Prim continued her story about elves. “The type of elves that live in trees and make cookies, the types that make shoes, and the best type.”
“Let me guess, Christmas elves,” I said, rolling my eyes.
Prim grinned. She came around the screen wearing thigh high red boots, jeans and a camel tunic sweater that looked like cashmere. “Come on sis, let me treat you to breakfast so that you can go terrorize the children of Macy’s toy department.”
  Pt 2
Peeta grins excitedly, breaking the narration. “You know she’s right. Papa says the cookie elves have high insurance premiums because their tree catches fire all of the time.”
“Peeta,” I huff. “Do you want me to finish the story?”
“Absolutely,” he hugs me closer. “I’m so sad you and Prim never got to grow up at the North Pole with me.”
I can’t help but smile at his sincere wish. “Oh Peeta,” I kiss his cheek.
“The only thing I would never let you do was toy testing,” Peeta whispers.
I chuckled. Peeta hated Jack-In-The-Box’s. They scare the dickens out of him. I lay my head on his shoulders. “Are you going to let me finish the story?”
“You know,” he says, blue eyes twinkling. “I’d spotted you in the city that first day.”
“You were jumping across the lines of the cross walk, “ I grin at the memory.
“I followed you until I saw the Empire State Building. Then I went to see my father.”
“I know,” I caress his face.
“Start from that point.”
“Okay, you ready now.” My babies were moving in my belly.
“Right, you were in your father’s office delivering the most awkward Christmas gram.”
Peeta chuckles. “I don’t have your pretty voice.”
I sigh. “Peeta.”
“Right, I’ll be quiet.”
I give him a look.
“But just so you know, when those guards told me to go back to Macy’s, I was curious as to why you were dressed as an elf.“
I roll my eyes. Did I forget to mention my husband is a talker. He is a chatterbox. I swear Peeta is the type who’d make friends with a paper bag.
"I thought your elf name was so pretty,” he sighs happily.
“Peeta, if you want me to tell the story. You have to hush!” I admonish, if I didn’t we would be here until tomorrow.
“Oh,” he gushes. “Yes, tell the story.”
“So, there I was in the middle of New York, like a morsel in shark infested waters. I.E….”
“That passion fruit spray is horrible,” Peeta grumbles. “I do not know how women drink that stuff.”
I want to laugh. There are still things that Peeta doesn’t understand about human society; perfume was one of them, and that fact endeared him to me.
“Can you start at the moment our eyes met?” Peeta gives me a wobbly smile.
Ah, now I know why he’s interrupting so much. “Okay.”
Sighing I recall that day. Prim and I were out to breakfast. She was harping on me to find someone. Did I fall to mention Primrose was only twenty years old at the time, and at that age I was ancient at the tender age of twenty six. Seriously twenty-six. So what if I had never dated, never had a boyfriend, and never kissed anyone. My sister was right. I was a prude, but I’d seen how love could screw you over. My mom never recovered and she died alone in some home of a broken heart. All I had in the world was my sister. My Prim, and she was the only person I would love. Until that afternoon.
“Seriously Katniss, you’re twenty-six,” Prim said.
Eye rolling was a national pastime when speaking to a glamazon who thought I needed to date.
“Don’t roll your eyes at me,” Prim said, removing my sunglasses. “And also, sunglasses in the middle of December, so not tre chique.”
Eye roll, eye roll, eye roll. Fake smile. CANASTO!
“You are the worst,” Prim hissed.
I knew my sister wasn’t mad at me. Annoyed, yes. Mad, no. “Prim, it’s just I’m not interested in dating anyone.”
“Katniss, I just don’t want you to impersonate elves for the rest of your life, and when you’re like forty-six, you’ll realize you’re alone with a cat, who pisses in your shoes, and scratches your furniture.”
I moved to pay our bill.
“No way,” Prim said, slamming her hand on the bill. “I make what you make in a month in two hours of work. This is on me.”
“Fine,” I grumbled.
“Also, stop closing yourself to Christmas. Santa isn’t going to leave you anything under the tree.”
“Like Santa exists,” I snorted.
Prim gasped. “You take that back. Santa Claus is real Katniss, just like the rainbows, and pigs and frogs having a long term, caring relationship, and love exists.”
My sister’s wide eyed passionate confession shook me, but the only words that came out of my mouth were, “a frog and a pig?”
“Miss Piggy and Kermit are together, and if they can make it, no matter what the media says, anything is possible.”
“Huh,” I said, leaving the luncheonette near Penn Station. We walked to the corner, where she’d take the stairs to the lower level.
I took a look at the stairs, knowing this was the moment I would say goodbye to my sister once again. My eyes filled with unwanted tears. I could still recall the little girl with the untucked shirt that looked like a duck tail. It’s where the nickname li’l duck came from.
“Don’t cry,” Prim whispered. “Quack, quack.”
“I hate it when we have to say goodbye,” I said quietly.
“It’s not goodbye, Katniss; it’s until the next time.” Prim grinned then she took my elf hat and put it on my head. “Go on, terrify the poor children of the city with your menacing scowl. But you better watch out, better not cry.”
I groaned. “Prim, I would rather hear seagulls squawking then you singing.”
“I know, that’s why I do it,” Prim said.
“You’re a brat.”
“Brat, I’m on Santa’s nice list. You’re the one on the naughty list.”
“There’s no such thing as Santa…” the words died on my lips as I saw a huge man dressed in an elaborate elf outfit jumping on the lines of the crosswalk gleefully. I was struck by the joy on his face.
He looked like an angel with wavy blond hair and innocent blue eyes. It was one thing to see a six-year-old child with that wide eyed innocence, but a tall, broad shouldered man with large hands made me think perhaps he’d escaped his caretakers. His elf outfit wasn’t like the cheap one I had to wear. It was made from a rich fabric with elaborately embroidered gold thread.
If there was something I knew about, it was fabric. I never had soft fabrics growing up and I was obsessed over soft materials. I dreamed of cashmere, Egyptian cotton, mulberry silks, and linens. His green tunic was made from merino wool, like the ones they made in England in those bespoke shops.  Even his hat, although a ridiculous cone shape, was not some cheap fabric covered cardboard that you’d find in a costume shop. It was made from genuine thick green wool felt with a yellow satin ribbon wrapped around it. A red feather bobbed up and down as he jumped.
He was so happy. He looked up, as if sensing my presence. Our eyes met and he smiled jovially and waved at me. My mouth went dry, because, gaw, Canasto!
This man-child was gorgeous.
“Earth to Katniss.” Prim snapped her fingers in my face.
“Sorry.” I looked back to my sister.
Prim looked over her shoulder. “Are you okay.”
I dipped out of my sister’s way. “I think I saw an elf.”
Prim laughed. “It’s Christmas, Katniss. Santa’s elves are everywhere.” Prim gave me a hug before descending the stairs to the lower level of the station.
Seeing my sister go was difficult, but I couldn’t shake the tall man dressed as an elf. He even had on yellow tights with black elf shoes.
I made my way to Macy’s. I could see the Empire State building in the background as I took a left to head to the employee’s entrance.
When I arrived, the floor manager Brutus headed straight to me. He was a ridiculous man with muscles in his neck and a bald head. His meaty fingers held a tiny clipboard.
Brutus did not believe in technology. He refused to use a tablet. He said the muckety-mucks, as he called them, were out to get him. He wore dark brown pants that were too small for his large frame and even when he stood you could see his white socks. He wore a sweater vest with various pens in his front pocket and a cheap plastic necklace that was supposed to look like tree lights.
“Jovie,” Brutus said looking over his shoulder.
“Yes, Brutus,” I smiled. Jovie was my elf name.
“Our last Santa quit, and we have no one, so until then I need you to help out in gift wrapping. Don’t forget to make sure the ribbon curl is six inches.”
“But you need more than six inches, to make a good curl.”
“Six inches.”
Sighing I walked to the station and nodded to the girls who were at the gift-wrapping station. I sat there trying to make six inch curls. People were insane at Christmas; they were stressed out to buy things, and things never made anyone happy. Things were just things.
The line of people got shorter and I noticed the tree in the center of the sales floor was looking a little sad. So getting the ladder, I rearranged the ornaments and noticed one of the lights was out. From this vantage point I saw Brutus drag him in, the elf I saw on the street.
Heat rushed to my cheeks and I focused on the tree, eavesdropping the entire time.
“Buddy, you need to remember you get a half-hour break when you work under six hours and a one hour break when you work over six hours. If I catch you on the floor again I’ll have to write you up.”
His name was Buddy. My lips formed a goofy smile at his name. Up close he was prettier, his wavy hair curled up at the ends. A shiver ran up my spine at all of those curls. I could picture little boys with blond ringlets and a little girl with dark tresses in green colored elf clothing. I held on to the ladder as I swayed.
“Wow, what’s this?” HIs eyes quickly darted to the crowded sales floor.
“This is the north pole,” Brutus said looking at his precious clipboard.
“No it’s not,” Buddy waved at a pair of babies inside of a stroller.
“Yes it is,” Brutus said.
“No it’s not,” Buddy eye’s traveled to the tree and I hid behind it so that he didn’t see me.
“Yes it is,” Brutus put his hands on his wide hips.
“No it’s not,” Buddy said smiling. “Where’s the snow?”
“He’s right, there’s no snow,” a six-year old girl said. She’d been listening to the conversation.
I nearly snorted.
“Why are you smiling like that?” Brutus brows knit together.
“I just like to smile, smiling’s my favorite thing,” he said. Bouncing to the Christmas music that was being pumped through the speakers.
“Well stop smiling, and make work your favorite thing to do. And who gave you that outfit?”
“It’s mine,” Buddy said, splaying those large hands on his chest looking down at his elf outfit.
Brutus looked at the intricate gold embroidery. “Fine, if that’s your story. You should make work your priority instead of shopping.” Brutus sighed, looking at his clipboard again. “I have to make the announcement.”
Buddy nodded, but once more was looking around.
I was working on the tree lights by now and really didn’t want to get down because I wanted to keep staring at him. At his great legs. Normally tall guys had spindly legs. Not his, yum.
“Okay I’ve got an announcement. Santa will be here tomorrow at 10AM. Keep your receipts so you can see Santa.”
“SANTA!” Buddy yelled. He jumped, clasped his hands and a little girl next to him joined him. Soon there was a flock of kids doing the same thing, all speaking at once and he was nodding and speaking to them as if he knew Santa.
I chuckled cause I’ve never seen Brutus look so stunned and speechless. He was carried away by Chaff, his second in command.
Buddy turned and focused on me. I pretended that he wasn’t just a few feet away from me. I could feel his gaze as I fixed the bulb that was not letting the string of lights to turn on. The tree lit up and I swear his eyes seemed to glow brighter than the lights on the tree.
My stomach did a little flip-flop. “What!” I said defensively. I turned and saw how big his eyes were and the genuine smile. “Are you enjoying the view?”
“I love Christmas trees,” he said hesitantly. “It’s nice to see someone else who enjoys elf culture as much as I do.”
Of course the guy that would make butterflies dance in my stomach was a wackadoo. I scowled. This wasn’t happening. Getting down from the tree, I quickly walk away, grabbing a few stuffed animals that were discarded and putting them back on the display.
“Looks like someone needs Christmas cheer and the best way to do it is to sing.”
“I don’t sing,” I muttered.
“Of course you can.” He chased after me.
“No,” I said trying to get him to stop, but liking that he’s walking after me like a wide eyed puppy-dog.
“Anyone can. All you have to do is put a group of words together in a tune,” he said sweetly.
I hopped on up on the stage where the guy in the red suit would be seated tomorrow. I turned to look at him. As I spoke to him, I couldn’t keep the hurt from my voice. Because the last time I sang a Christmas song it was with my dad, hours before he died.  “I know that, I can sing, but I choose not to sing.”
“Look, I’ll do it for you maybe it will make you smile,” Buddy said. He takes a deep breath, “I”M SINGING. I’M IN A STORE AND I AM…”
It was horrible, but I couldn’t help but smile.
“THERE’S NO SINGING IN THE NORTH POLE!” Brutus comes running out from behind the registrar.
“Yes there is,” Buddy says grinning at me. “I’m Peeta.”
“Wait I thought your name was Buddy?”
“That’s my middle name,” Peeta said. “Is Jovie your name?”
“No,” my voice sounds breathy. “Jovie is my elf name.”
“So what’s your real name?” His voice sounded deeper and I swear I could see nothing else but his big blue eyes tenderly gazing at me.
“Katniss,” I said, wondering why my knees were so wobbly. I couldn’t fall for a guy who thought he was an elf. A very good looking, broad shouldered guy with the face of an angel, but nonetheless, a complete wakadoo.
The ten minute warning came on letting people know they needed to go home.
“Oh I’ve got to get ready for Santa,” Peeta muttered under his breath. But before he could move Brutus appears.
“Buddy,” Brutus grabbed him by the arm and hauled him away. I was left standing on that stage with a big old goofy grin on my face.

The Creeps Review
The main appeal in “The Creeps” are the interactions between Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, BMO, Lumpy Space Princess, and Cinnamon Bun. It’s not a combination of characters we see much of. Like, apparently Cinnamon Bun has a crush on LSP. How cool is that? Him hitting on her is really funny and something I wish the series kept as a running joke. They also all have funny names for their alter egos, two of which refer to either farting or the lack thereof. I love everyone’s unique costumes, especially Princess Bubblegum’s. PB has a really nice swan shaped mask, a reference to her pet swan. LSP actually looks pretty for once in her red dress. Cinnamon Bun, the dumbest person in Ooo, wearing a top hat and monocle like he’s a scholar is hilarious. BMO looks cute, and Finn and Jake look rad, especially Finn’s wolf mask. The costumes, in addition to the haunted house plot, make this the closest Adventure Time has come to a strictly Halloween episode. Halloween doesn’t exist in Ooo, but they could’ve totally called it one like how “Holly Jolly Secrets” does for Christmas. The episode could have gone further with its cast selection. I like all the picks, but not including Marceline is a big missed opportunity. She loves pranks and her character fits the spooky atmosphere. Not sure why she’s never able to play supporting roles in the first half of the series unlike the rest of the cast. Tree Trunks would have also been a good addition.
The episode reuses the murder mystery plot from “Mystery Train”. They lampshade this, with Jake accusing Finn or pulling a prank like he did in that episode. It’s nice having the characters casually mention events from previous episodes, which is still rare for the series. I think the characters and atmosphere differentiate it from “Mystery Train” enough, and even elevates it to a better episode. This also foreshadows Jake’s knowledge of Finn’s initial attempt at a prank. I like how it sets up a “who’s pranking who” mystery. Jake and BMO go off on their own. They have a conversation that some people don’t think makes sense knowing the episode’s twist. I give the writers more credit than that. Jake asks BMO if Finn is pranking him, because for all he knows, Finn could have hijacked Jake’s hijacked prank. And Jake screaming at BMO’s capture is just for dramatic effect for Finn’s ears. I like BMO’s speech in this scene, which is a bit iconic. It’s always heartwarming when BMO tries to cheer up Finn and Jake, and he’ll use his philosophy here to console Jake again much later on.
We get a couple more great gags. Finn throwing PB off the railing is so wacky. Hearing the sound of a flushing toilet after LSP’s screams of agony is hysterical. I love her outburst where we find out why she and Brad broke up prior to “Trouble in Lumpy Space”. A “real ghost” appears, making Finn admit he was pulling a prank…up to this point. The melted Cinnamon Bun and BMO’s remains in the closet look very uneasy. Jake’s hijacked prank is very well done. He must have swapped the painting for the one with LSP in the darkness. Jake gets snagged by the ghost (more death foreshadowing), leaving only Finn left. He encounters a ghost lady, who has a fantastic and creepy design. He escapes, and sees the ocean waves crashing against the mansion outside. Seeing the ocean, his biggest fear, represents how traumatizing this whole experience is for Finn.
Jake, of course, was behind this. Lady Rainicorn was dressed as the ghost, and she talks about having sex with Jake in Korean. Sometimes I forget that she’s as much of a freak as Tree Trunks. I love LSP claiming she’s ready for Brad, even though that doesn’t come to fruition. I guess he’s moved on with Melissa. This is probably LSP’s funniest appearance in the series. Finn finds out that Jake wasn’t behind the ghost lady, leaving its identity a mystery for now. It’s not something that necessarily needs an explanation, as ghosts do exist in Ooo. I bought into the popular fan theory that she’s the ghost of Finn’s mom, which of course isn’t the case, but it was a cool idea. Finn puts his memory of her in his vault. He can suppress his traumatic memories at will!
