Good Omens Fic Rec: amaretto
“Demons have laws?” Aziraphale asks, head cocked to the side.
“Well, insofar as nature has laws, yes. Is that your final request? Is that what it’ll be?”
Aziraphale takes a moment to contemplate this. “Yes.”
Crowley nods, then holds the pad of his thumb out to Aziraphale’s mouth. “Lick it,” he commands.
“Excuse me?” Aziraphale squeaks. Crowley notes that this is the first time Aziraphale has been outwardly puzzled at literally anything Crowley has done.
“In order for a demonic contract to be solidified, there needs to be a mixing of biological matter, and I’m assuming you’re not into bloodletting,” Crowley says, eyes wide. He’s been wrong before.

*Minor Spoilers* This one is surprisingly sweet for being about a human Aziraphale who accidently summons and enters a contract with the demon Crowley. I really didn't have any expectations going in, but was still surprised by the domestic tone of this one. Aziraphale's request for the demon is a simple one, he just wants a companion. This story is for the lonely, those of us who have gotten used to the quiet. That's not to say it's gloomy or depressing, but melancholy and yearning hang over this story. They both are so alone, and scared of losing the precious thing they found in each other. The beach trip, the sleeping, and hair braiding were particularly beautiful moments in this. Very tender, very loving, all the good stuff.
On the other side of this tenderness is their manic attempts at finding a way to stay together. I loved the demon side characters this story brings in, and the way it plays with the world and laws of Hell. It was funny and original. The climax of this story was also very interesting and unique and includes illustrations which actually really helped me visualize what it was talking about!! I won't spoil any of that, but I found it a very satisfying conclusion. I will say, I had hoped Anathema and Tracy were going to be more involved towards the end, they knew what was going on and outside of providing some information they just kind of let Aziraphale walk into what could have been a bad situation. I think they could have used a little more fight.
Mostly safe in public, there is an explicit chapter towards the end but it will be marked if you prefer to skip it. Super cozy, domestic, warm, top tier yearning, it's everything you need for a lazy afternoon.
