Idia, Silver: Somehow I’ll be Strong

Silver casually doing his usual knightly duties and Idia being shocked at such Chad behavior will never not be funny 🤡 but seeing Idia passionately share his hobbies in the vignettes was wholesome! (The story about Idia singing with Ortho as they went to the bathroom together at night was also adorable 🥺)

Idia’s legs are so damn long, everyone’s been memeing them to the Underworld and back 😂 … Okay, but wtf is up with THAT face he’s making in the groovy?? That’s on a whole new level of sinister 💀 Is this really your mans, Eliza—

A Tale as Old as Time.

Gazing upon the good and righteous was nothing new for Idia. He had pored over countless manga and light novels, binged shounen anime after shounen anime.

Here was another hero, bathed in bronze sunlight, posing triumphantly, a sword to pave the way forward and a battered training dummy to protect. His trusty winged steed beside him, a stout, wizened satyr, his mentor, hanging off of one bulging bicep. True, the arena they stood in was empty, save for the training equipment scattered about—but there was no doubt that the world would soon know his name, and his face written in the stars.

A platinum frame divided Idia from that legendary man.

Clutching onto one limp, flabby arm, he quietly scoffed. Haaah, it looks like a scene straight out of some musclehead's training montage...

"You're admiring this painting too, Idia-senpai?"

Idia's thoughts came to a screeching halt. Goosebumps prickled his skin, hair standing on end. A young man with a build similar to the hero in the artwork had appeared, handsome-face framed by moonlight locks.

"E-Eep! S-Silver-shi?!" His voice was pinched, a reverberating squeak.

The knight bowed his head. "Hello. It sounds like you're in good spirits."

Idia took a step back, as if he were the night making way for the encroaching day. The shadows were where he felt the safest, wrapped up in a cloak that granted him near invisibility from the average onlooker. Not with Silver. He who cast a revealing light wherever he drifted.

"Y-Yeah, what a n-nice painting..." Idia mumbled, not bothering to summon the effort to lie. He attempted to skitter away, cutting the conversation short, but—to his dismay—Silver continued.

"I look up to him too. There's many historical heroes we can look back on and learn from," Silver said with a nod. "I refer to them when I consider my own training regiment. They're inspirations to us all."

What's this?! Idia paled. Obviously I was trying to signal to him that I was gonna go AFK but this guy just starts spamming the chat!! H-Have I accidentally tripped an event flag...!? Or does he lack even more social awareness than an introverted otaku like me!?

Silver regarded him seriously—innocently, even. "Can I ask if this is the one you aspire to?"

Idia grimaced at the suggestion. "You're joking, right? Th-There's no way I could be a fraction as buff as he is!!"

The second year blinked, seeming undisturbed by the flustered response. “I don't think that's a concern."

“How’s it not? A hero can’t do crazy godlike stunts if he doesn’t have the right stuff…”

Silver shook his head. “My father has told me stories of warriors who were able to overcome their lack of strength with other provisions. A woman once pretended to be a man to infiltrate the military. Her wit saved their entire country from collapse."

"This man too…” Silver indicated the placard below the platinum frame. “… He gave up his strength to protect someone he loved. It was his noble heart that made the heavens recognize his godhood."

“W-Well…” Idia but his lower lip. He knew the tales as well as Silver did, but still he hesitated. “That’s true, but… isn’t it too unrealistic to think ordinary people could rise to those kinds of feats?”

His grip on his sleeve tightened.

The main character in Star Rogue... He started off as a zero and became a hero. But that's just a video game. Can something like that really happen in real life...? When true heroes are one in a billion?

Silver-shi makes it sound so easy.

His stomach lurched, wrenching into distorted shapes.

“If you have the drive, you can go the distance and somehow become strong,” Silver told him. His tone, reassuring yet firm.

“Somehow? H-How vague can you possibly get? That’s no way to achieve results…”

“It’s not brawn alone that determines your worth as a hero. Please have more faith in yourself, Idia-senpai."

As if just saying that will make my faith meter shoot through the roof! Anxiety-induced sweat beaded on Idia’s forehead.

M-Maybe if I tell him what he wants to hear, he’ll leave me alone… He warily eyed Silver. “O-Okay… I get it already. I’ll try, so…”

Please stop talking to me!! I-I don’t know how much longer of this pure-hearted anime protag speech I can stomach!

“You will? That’s great.” Silver smiled softly. His expression, Idia realized, reminded him of that of the hero in the photo frame.

A sparkling face, full of hope for the future.

A hero in the making.

That could be you, a tiny voice in his mind whispered.

A weight in his chest steadily lifted, then dropped again. Like a lost soul bobbing between life and death. Unsure of which way to go.

No, don’t be deceived. Life isn’t a game route that plays out with an easy ending. One misstep, and I’ll be floating in the River Styx.

Idia cut away from his underclassman. The hero’s big grin snagged in the corner of his eye.

Perfect, pearly, perky. Not a visible crack in a man seemingly chiseled out of marble.

But nobody’s perfect, not even the immortals. Everyone has a weakness or two in their systems, a security flaw, bug to exploit—and the bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Trust in excess turned into gullibility. Willingness to help could become one’s hubris. Goodness twisting into other shapes.

Suddenly, the hero was no longer infallible. His courage, painted foolishly.

If a hero could crumble, then so, too, could those at their lowest points rise up and rebuild a city. Make something of themselves. True one way, and true the other.

Someday, somehow, he’d be strong enough to face the odds—turning the impossible into the possible.

A slow, sinister smile crept onto his lips. Eerie, gleeful laughter filled the air. His shoulders, shuddering.

“Hihihihihihi…”

Silver’s ears perked. He inclined his head toward his upperclassman. It looks like Idia-senpai is reinvigorated. I’m glad I could encourage him.

I can! :) I'll share a bit about Selkies and Sebastian!

I'll put it under a read more though!

SEBASTIAN RUSSWAL: "Mark my words, one day, I'll be great with this big brain of mine."

A nineteen year old peculiar, a selkie, who loves to read everything. Everything. He grew up in his parents bookstore, he works there in-between jobs. And he has had a lot of jobs. He knows a bit of everything, comedically so.

He's a dictionary with legs and a mouth; if you do the mistake of asking, he'll explode everything he knows into your lap. You will always get a bit more than you asked for.

Sebastian's mother is Irish! His father Spanish! They are both selkies!

His father, Samuel (Sam for short), aside from running the bookshop also have a side gig at the Gladiator club. He takes bets during the fights when there's an audience.

That's how Oliver and Sebastian know one another. They met via Sam.

His mother, Erin, has five sisters and each of those have four children, and each of those children have cousins on their father's side as well. Short in short, Sebastian has a lot of cousins (mostly women) and extended family! If you bump into an Irish selkie in London, chances are, they're a cousin of his!

Which has helped him get his various of jobs.

SELKIES

Selkies are a Beast-type peculiar! Categorised this way due to their aquatic and seal-like appearances.

In Asia, they would be called kappa, and in Africa they're simply known as mermen. In Sweden they would be called sälkies (with an ä instead, as säl means seal). In Scotland, the spelling is selchies.

Selkies main "power" is their skin! Or rather, the patch of darkened skin on their back referred to as a pelt.

Selkies are known as the cowards of peculiars due to their power. The pelt, when their adrenaline is high, hardens into an armour. This can happen rather easily for them. But the "cowardness" comes in with that, it often happens when they are afraid, anxious or feel threatened. They're known as runners, not fighters.

Selkies secondary "power" is how they are always levelled with the temperature outside. If it's cold, their body heats up. If it's hot, their body cools down. This is so that they can be in any body of water for an extensive amount of time. You may also not want to be bitten by them, as their teeth are all fangs built to be able to break through hard shells and fishbones.

Speaking of water; their lungs are better than anybody else's. They can hold their breathe for up to 20 minutes. When a selkie is underwater, they get their nictitating membrane activated (if you don't know what that is, basically it's a third eyelid that is transparent and protects the eyes from dirt.)

This makes them, of course, excellent swimmers and even better fishermen.

Selkies often have jobs involving the sea, lakes, fish or other such things. They also prefer living near bodies of water, harbours or coves. Water is also the best hiding place from hunters and witches.

Selkies don't really have a "need" for anything like other peculiars do. They just really, really, really, like fish. But it's not something they need or they'll go crazy. It's just.... THEY LIKE FISH.

And they will eat fish raw, cooked, boiled, with or without head or tail-- they like fish. If they share fish with you, you're a friend.

PECULIAR CULTURE: BEAST TYPE

Beast type peculiars are known for their physical appearance similar to animals or fantasy beasts. This has created a culture of either trying to lean into the animal association or distance from it.

Selkies, generally speaking, leans into it. They are so dependent on water, both ability wise and what they associate with HOME, that it is honestly rather difficult for them not to lean in a little bit.

The art of conchology has always been a selkie household craft. But it became a fad in the early victorian era, and it does pop up in late victorian once again as a fad. Conchology, for those of you that don't know, is when you take seashells and make literally anything out of it. A box for jewellery, a lamp shade, the frame of a mirror, a CHAIR, maybe glue shells together into a miniature statuette to mimic the fancy porcelain figures in rich houses.

(Sebastian's mum loves seashells. They used to collect them as a mother-son activity when he was little.)

Selkie culture also has this adorable thing with seashells that.. When you feel serious about someone (romantically), you typically give them the nicest seashell you can find to give your sweetheart as a way to ask if you may court them romantically. It's not a proposal, but it's a "wanna go out with me?" gesture.

The BWOOOOOOHHHH thing! Ah yes, the call of joy. "Bwoh!" is the sound they make when exclaiming surprise, joy, or excitement. It's just what they do. Who knows why or how it came to be, but no matter where a selkie is from, there is the "bwoh." Amongst selkies, bwoh is also a way to say "Hello! :D"

BAD BUDDY FILMING LOCATIONS 10

This post steps away from the original BBS to look at filming locations for the Bad Buddy episodes of Our Skyy 2 (overlapping with ATOTS as well), that aired in May/June 2023.

I think the fandom was so overjoyed at getting PatPran and the rest of the gang back in Our Skyy 2 that we were willing to overlook any inconsistencies (Pat's Baseball Mom hair included 😂), and this applies to the locations too. 🥰

Anyway, OS2 x BBS x ATOTS didn't use Rangsit University to represent South Technology U, and instead filmed the gang's academia-set scenes in King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL).

KMITL is about 30km east of central Bangkok in Nonthaburi province, not far from Suvarnabhumi Airport:

In Our Skyy 2, Pat/Pran's student apartment moved away from Tinidee Hotel Bangkok Golf Club and was represented instead by the Executive 2-Bedroom Suite (Type 5) at Northgate Ratchayothin Hotel/Serviced Residence (248 Ratchadapisek Road, Ladyao, Chatuchak, Bangkok 10900; map coordinates are 13°49'46.7"N 100°33'47.9"E):

Once the action moved up to Pha Pun Dao, I did remember enough about ATOTS to know that OS2 x BBS x ATOTS re-used the same buildings up in the mountains. Most of these – unlike settings in other BLs – had been purpose-built for the show, and it was cool to see them still standing, looking good three years or so after they were first erected.

With a bit of searching, I can confirm that the Pha Pun Dao village buildings (Tian's house, the Pha Pun Dao school, etc.) are located at The Union of Hill Tribe Villages and Long Neck Karen in Nang Lae, Chiang Rai province. Due to the popularity of ATOTS, the set buildings can be visited as a tourist attraction in their own right, and are marked on Google Maps as such:

"You two killed it!!!", Mark reminded y/n one again as they drove home.

"That's thanks to your late ass.", y/n said.

"I don't know if that's really a compliment.", Mark replied, stopping at a red light.

"Who said that was supposed to be a compliment?", she raised an eyebrow at him.

"Tsk. Ungrateful child.", he said, driving again when the lights turned green.

y/n looked outside the window as her brother kept driving and to her surprise, as Mark drove closer to their house, she saw a figure sitting in front of their door. The person sat up as soon as he saw Mark pulling in the driveway.

"I'll head inside first.", Mark said to his sister before disappearing into their house.

"Jeno? What are you doing here?", y/n asked looking at the guy in front of her.

"I...just wanted to talk to you.", he answered, hands in his pockets.

"Then talk.", she replied, crossing her arms.

"I- Umh...", he paused as his thoughts were a little messy. Jeno sighed and rubbed his face with his hands, feeling his emotions resurging.

"What happened to your hands?", y/n asked, furrowing her eyebrows.

"Oh...Uhm-", he looked at his hands before putting them back in his pockets, "They came in contact with a tree...multiple times."

y/n sighed, rolling her eyes, "Come with me.", she said, opening her door and walking in without letting him the time to say anything, "Hi, mom. Hi, dad.", she waved at her parents, seeing them on the living room's couch, "Mom, you already know Jeno.", she said, pointing at the boy who just entered their house then walking to the stairs, not even looking back.

"Good evening, Mrs and Mr. y/l/n.", the boy bowed after closing the door behind him and removing his shoes. He quickly followed behind y/n, going up the stairs.

y/n's parents just looked at the scene in disbelief, "I think we gave a little too much liberty to our children.", her dad said as his eyes followed the boy until he disappeared upstairs.

"Let them live, honey. They're are basically adults now.", her mom answered, smiling at her husband.

"NO FUNNY BUSINESS UP THERE!", he screamed making his wife laugh at his silliness.

y/n closed the bathroom's door behind her and Jeno. She searched the drawers, looking for the first aid kit, "Found it!", she said, taking it out and putting it next to the sink, "Hands, please."

Jeno held his hands out and she treated the scratches on his knuckles. He observed her, seeing how her eyes were focus on disinfecting his hands, "You were right.", he said, breaking the silence, "Somin did it on purpose. She used me to know which song you were going to sing."

"Good job on standing up against her.", y/n said, still focus on disinfecting his wounds.

"How do you know I did that?"

"Well, you wouldn't be here if her doe eyes and trembling lips got you.", y/n answered, giving him a smile, before focusing back on putting bandages on his scratches.

"I-I broke up with her."

"Great. It only took you twenty three episod-", she started to say sarcastically until she looked up and saw Jeno's expression, "You really did like her.", she said, looking at him with sympathy.

Jeno looked up, trying to blink his emotions away. y/n sighed and wrapped her arms around his torso, "W-What-", Jeno stuttered at the sudden display of affection.

"If we're really doing this cliché bathroom scene where the main character cleans the male lead's wounds then better get the emotional part right too.", y/n jokingly said, still hugging him, "It's going to be okay. We're all here for you.", she rubbed his back gently as his arms slowly wrapped themselves around her.

a/n: you'll know a bit more about somin and jeno's relationship later in the story 😉 how can i do a story about cliché things without a 'omg-you-are-hurt-i-am-going-to-clean-your-wounds-and-we-are-going-to-smooch-afterwards' scene? so here it is, minus the smooch ofc 😂 btw i think i’m going to skip tomorrow’s update to update my other aus
