wow it is star trek update time. last night we watched ds9's "blood oath" and tng's "journey's end," which is one of the strongest quality ricochets we've had yet.

okay, so the summary said "three klingon legends" but what i didn't realize is that they were all REAL KLINGONS FROM THE ORIGINAL SERIES

i have to pain this picture for you, whoever is reading this. the three klingons in this episode appeared in "errand or mercy" "the trouble with tribbles" and "day of the dove." like, they really came back to reprise their roles almost 30 years later. i'm going to paste a picture but uhtw 60s blackface

now, if you're a tos viewer, you may recognize that fella in the middle as also having played the titular squire of gothos in. "squire of gothos." now, as an episode, i find "squire of gothos" to be pretty mid, but there is one specific scene that really did something for me. to me? it did something TO me. what it did to me was send me off the fucking deep end, i wish i could convey the depths of my madness with human words

anyway, before my good and wonderful friend so kindly made this gifset for me, i did maybe sit in front of my pc and replay the clip upwards of [mumble] times a day because i was very, very unwell. when i watched this scene for the very first time what happened to me in that single instant was the bone-deep realization that james t kirk (tos and aos) ate fascists on tarsus iv, probably, and he'd fucking do it again because nobody tastes better than a fascist! i wrote an entire fanfic about it, sorry for the spoilers.

what does squire of gothos and tarsus iv have to do with ds9? well first of all every star trek episode is secretly about tarsus iv so jot that down

but secondly, i've watched this clip so many times i have to hide my face when this man shows up in trouble with tribbles. now, i'm not so good with faces, but i KNOW THAT VOICE. but i know him AS the squire of gothos. i frequently forget entirely that he also plays a klingon, so i didn't recognize his name. so when i heard the squire of gothos's voice come out of a random klingon's mouth in ds9 my immediate kneejerk reaction was "no i am hearing things that can't be--" BUT IT WAS. i PAUSED the episode so i could look iy up, realized that the guy in the drunk tank was kor or "do you have a tongue you will be taught to use it" fame, and then to my eternal glee, kang shows up next

i remembered reading once that kang came back later and i was like ??? no one comes back later on tos BUT HE DID! I JUST HAD TO WAIT FOR IT!!!!! mystery finally solved...........

once i recognized them this episode was a blast. absolutely loving these 100 year old klingons getting ready for a rip roaring rampage of supercentenarian revenge. i was VERY sad that they died at the end but at least presumably they all died together (didnt see the last one go down but im just assuming he lived long enough to eat the albino's heart and then die)

(the albino is a really funny concept by the way like he's not even albino he's just a white klingon)

other notable things about this episode: firstly, quark hiding behind odo at the beginning. classic. secondly, dax actually being a good fighter ?!?!?! and finally, a true passing of the bechdel test where dax asked kira some alarming and upsetting questions about killing people and kira immediately took her aside and MADE her talk. i love. Women. and also women who murder people. i support womens wrongs.

i even love that the ONE time sisko doesn't back up one of his people it's for a good reason (doesn't want the 27yo reincarnation of his father figure to die on a klingon suicide mission)

you know, we tried to give this episode the benefit of the doubt actually. we were like "maybe this was progressive in 1994. i mean they ARE saying that moving these guys forcibly would be bad" and i mean like what would we know about what was progressive in 94? we were 5. so we checked and um i don't think anybody liked it in 1994 either

devastating that THIS has to be a wesley episode bc i wanted a better sendoff for my boy. "i had a vision and now i'm leaving starfleet" and yes they said the word vision in the most derogatory way possible. jesus christ

TRAVELER ALIEN RACEFAKING? HE PRETENDED TO BE NATIVE AMERICAN TO GIVE WESLEY THE VISION? and then he was like haha don't you know all that stuff is fake. (picard earlier in this episode "i am sooo respectful of your beliefs")

furthermore when picard was like "oh yeah this guy blames me for the crimes of my colonizer ancestor" girl at no point did he say that. idk if white people should go around accusing other white people of white guilt so i don't say this lightly but jesus christ captain picard can you tone it the fuck down buddy

i came across a gifset today of picard from season 5 (idr the episode) going "starfleet doesn't want officers who blindly follow orders sayign you're just following orders has been used to justify too many tragedies in our history" and then smash cut to this episode where he's like "well i tried but yeah i'm gonna have to move you sowwy :/" like good lord.

anyway it's a bummer these last few eps of tng have been less than great bc ik tng is capable of good episodes and i was hoping this series would go out on a high note. but it's going to end the same way it began with us waiting for something good to happen and throwing popcorn at picard

tsunade. my best friend in the whole wide world. i knew i was going to love her before she showed up and i was completely and entirely vindicated shes an icon shes a legend she is the moment. theres not a single thing i dont love about her shes seriously one of the greatest characters of all time in any media ever everybody WISHES they had tsunade. shes like srsly so important to me and like okay the thing with a lot of "feminist" characters in a lot of media/fandom is that people assume that in order to make a feminist female character she has to be #feminism #girlboss #queen etc and cant lose at anything and Totally Owns The Boys With GIRL POWER ! but tsunade sucks at gambling and summons a giant slug (which im aware comes from the story she & jiraiya & orochimaru come from but in any other media she'd get something traditionally Badass tm like a wolf or something but no she gets a GIANT SLUG) and is more than happy to throw hands with an annoying 12 year old and gets drunk on the regular and has an obscene amount of debt on her hands and her pet is a pig but is absolutely able to hold her own and gets to be hokage and do cool and epic things and is so so so everything all of the time. im srsly obsessed with her relationship with jiraiya and orochimaru like you already know this but it genuinely kind of makes me ill that in the infinite tsukuyomi despite everything he's done orochimaru is literally. HES THERE. HES THEREEEEE like srsly what if we all blew up and died. huh

her relationship with sakura is also so so good and it actually kills me we didnt get to see it explored more because like pre-timeskip sakura doesnt really have a lot of confidence and doesnt really feel like she can contribute that much because shes next to three insane powerhouses who were kind of just born like that but after spending two years with tsunade and being able to come into her own shes much much more confident and outspoken and like its very clearly tsunade's influence that got her to that point and theyre so important to me im so fr. and of course tsunades relationship w naruto is also so insanely eveyrthing as well hes litearlly her special little boy like because he mouths off to her all the time but also clearly respects her so so much and she yells at him for being a brat but also clearly does enjoy their back and forths and SHES SO EVERYTHINGGGG its seriously . the situation is dire. shes so everything to me.

sakura..... sakura........... SAKURA.................... shes not even deeper than she seems if you HAVE EYEBALLS. WHICH APPARENTLY THIS FANDOM DOES NOT. Rayman stuff (i think) would work well in the Sparks of hope DLC: rayman in the phantom show

(CONTEXT; THIS WAS BEFORE IT CAME OUT I WAS SO WRONG)

the obvious picks: barbara and Globox

the two seem most likely to appear because of rayman legends and being the thing that bailed Rayman out of obscurity. being the extra playable characters the game needs when Rabbid Mario and Peach get boring to play. globox being a bulky character with single target-focused damage , barbara is a close combat version of edge.

Raymesis:

the most popular evil Rayman poeple would riot of he didnt get, even some wanting to develop character outside of being a clone and i feel the wacky world of rabbid's is great place to do it, he would be boss fight that acts like a powerful version of Rayman, but he would use darkmess versions of rabbid Mario and rabbid peach. being a creature himself made of dark magic, he interacts with darkmess just fine. this creates a rival battle for ages as Raymesis's team is stronger than you in most aspects but friendly fire is on for all of there attacks, take advantage of that and he will fall easily. at the end the clones melt and Raymesis runs off like an angry diva and can be seen the break room yelling about the lost

the fun stuff:

1st off

dark rayman: an evil doppelganger created to hunt down rayman to ends of the world, mirroring everything ray does until he catches him

this could be a fun minboss fight, using his shadow-like body to phase through attacks that are not from rayman, but there would be props with ray's face on them that the others would set up, he would charge at them like a bull, and leave him open.

maybe at the end he disappears the second somebody asks where he came from. then showing randomly during fights

Fiesta de los Muertos:

Fiesta de los Muertos itself would be great astheic on it own as part of the dlc but maybe the world could be invaded by phantom turn was once an undead party, into a theatrical nightmare realm with the two rulers of land estelia and selena leading the rebellion, with selena in particular keen on collecting phantom's soul, being a ghost with no unfinished business breaking i don't know all the rules of the underworld

dark teensy:

again, a character from legends and origins that is very likely to get in because two games that revived rayman. but every tv show plot in a game needs a intern that the butt of every joke and there perfect for the role.

this would perfect for Phantom and to up his character, a ost that mixes between phantom lyrics and the orchestral becoming one at the crescendo. Phantom gaining more control and power over it as it goes on. the toads that make up the orchestra as npc at start of the dlc but slowly become controlled by the phantom and turn into his mindless yes-man whose only purpose is to preach about phantom, greatness and build up his insatiable ego.

my howl's moving castle inspired au, the long masterpost:

*will use scar's moving castle as a tag for this!

consider: grian manages a family business with his sister, pearl. their life is anything but glamorous, and grian doesnt have much prospects of ever leaving his town and doing something different. he hears stories about big cities full of possibilities, magic (hes isnt sure if he believes in that), a moving castle and a handsome wizard who steals the hearts of young women;

one day, grian gets cursed by the wizard of the wastes (joel), after he comes into his shop late in the shift and they get into a heated discussion over the existence (or lack, thereof) of magic. joel thinks of it all as just a silly prank, a curse that can be easily lifted or is just naturally disappearing after a few days;

joel girlbossed too close to the sun, though. the curse is bad. grian wakes up finding out that his body has started to grow feathers. its uncomfortable and borderline painful at times, specially on his back;

after properly freaking out, he tries to deal with it as best as he can, chugging some painkillers, wearing oversized clothes and going to work as if nothing is wrong. pearl notices something unusual, tho—perhaps its grian's murderous expression whenever he remembers joel's face. hes going to kill that bastard;

the curse gets progressively worse as the days go by, until grian can no longer easily hide it and pearl finds out by the ungodly amount of feathers spread around their house. she, of course, gets worried, and tell grian they need to find the wizard that cursed him somehow, or perhaps asks someone else for help;

they dont know any other witches and wizards, since, until last week, grian was pretty sure those didnt even exist. until pearl mentions that one dude who apparently steal hearts and was around town with his moving castle;

grian tells her thats a legend to scare young people so they wont go around talking to strangers. pearl argues that she knew of a lady who disappeared after allegedly spending time with the wizard;

grian supposes that man, if he actually exists, isnt the most trustworthy. but 1. hes not a young lady, which appears to be the ones who get their hearts stolen and 2. he has nothing to lose, really, besides some of his time;

pearl offers to go with him, but grian insists for her to stay (shes a young woman, after all). so grian leaves by himself in good old ghibli fashion: taking with him nothing but a block of cheese, some bread and a clock;

he founds the moving castle with ease: its ridiculously big and it makes no sense at all, having many weird bump outs, few windows, a dramatic copper roof and many chimneys. if anything, it looked like the weirdest house ever and nothing like a castle. something about it was still charming, tho: he just couldnt point out what.

development for this au just started, but so far it includes:

scar being weird and overly dramatic, but still charming. he also refuses to pay taxes;

cub as scar's weird demon roommate, with whom he made a contract many years ago. cub is so miserable sometimes that he regrets getting scar's heart (or his soul, whatever). cub keeps the "castle" moving with overly complicated redstone magic and fire that allegedly comes from the depths of hell;

scar sending threatening letters to joel. many of them. demanding for him to break the curse. joel ignores every single one;

he eventually gets pissed and goes with grian to look for joel, who admits the curse wasnt supposed to be that strong and now he doesnt know how to break it. scar turns him into a frog and joel is kept hostage;

joel still does his best to be as annoying as possible despite the limitations of his new body.

it also includes:

scarian falling in love;

found family;

silly cliche romance tropes;

romcom elements;

characters acting like divorced couples;

funky magical men with their funky little spells;

light angst.

i want to write this but im afraid i might not have the time. still want to brainrot tho so im accepting asks! you may also write with this au as long as you credit me! :)

stricken by questions in the middle of the night. hateno. do you have any fun facts + what does your link think of it + when did he get there and what happened

OH actually i have a few :D

ALRIGHTY!! for fun facts: on page 98 of creating a champion (you can view it for free) its noted that the people in hateno wear warmer clothes because theyre near a very very cold mountain which is mount lanayru and also it has a nordic aesthetic apparently! because of that once i. do research i think im going to make hateno based a bit off finland just for fun. or poland but poland is more of a personal thing. and also requires research. speaking of being at the base of mt lanayru youve probably seen this but theres little mountain symbols all across hateno (like on the signs, the pots, and some secret back sheds)! the mayors house is referred to as a church in the files (TwnObj_Village_HatenoChurch_A_01) for some reason, likely because it has the hylia statue. ALSO. this isnt confirmed at all but before i was researching those little stacked rocks. theyre up above the signs as well as near the mayors house. im half sure theyre cairns, stacked rocks made by humans thats usually for signalling a hiking trail. this site also sparsely mentions them + has insight into the architecture + the ancient tech labs (though i havent read a lot of it </3). anyways those may just be for fun/for visitors/decoration (i like to think its all of them) + its likely rock balancing. i Did find a site like this and while im inclined to trust it i dont think it applies here. also while prewriting the main ideas i thought there was cairns in goron city? but i cant find them so! yeah maybe theyre in totk otherwise theyre just in hateno and tarrey town. also while its raining karin i believe will read a little book thats in oots/wws opening cutscene style with a little prince in blue riding towards the castle. i think its neat but doesnt have too many implications besides possibly reinforcing some tloz games could be the same legend told over and over like a telephone game. also theres more in the second win mod but i cant play it because. not optimized at least for me. also. lots of footage to go into and i dunno how much was truly added

what does link think of it!!! i think he likes it a bit, especially the inn. its just cozy + both loshlo harbor and hateno beach are just kind of good thinking places. loshlo harbor especially, its just a nostalgic place for him. also i feel like he’d have a lot more use for his house than we’re given in game (custom photos, a journal, a chest so you can put items in to store them ((maybe food)), souvenirs (he’d have a lot of those i think. mainly stealing mugs), and also actually being able to cook in there). to be fair the champions photo being the only item we could place in links house had an effect, but i do want this to be. an actual house. also i think he’d get deja vu from being in the house and the harbor. nothing like stunting or debilitating but he’ll be cutting up vegetables or building a sand castle and for a moment a memory? or an image flashes and in that. thing. hes doing the exact same thing hes doing now. same place same thoughts . though some would be more memory flashes, those would be easier to tell as its not deja vu but . like finishing someones sentence without knowing what theyre going to actually say. and then he realizes ‘WAIT A SECOND’

i think he wouldve gotten there later than normal. miphers was done first, did a bit of traveling (partly because he. didnt know where it was despite the map). he probably got there somewhere after his 2nd-3rd divine beast. funnily enough i think it wouldve taken him a While to find lurilen and the forgotten temple. lurilen especially why would he Go There (he didnt read the signs in faron). he finally gets a house but at the cost of capitalism. once he gets the camera he goes to impa and then he takes a Long detour to get every single memory and without getting (too) sidetracked. he thought a fallen star was one once but it disappeared as it turned day so he never found out what that light was until he saw one physically crash into a hill. he actually mightve done the divine beasts before the camera and is delaying clammy ganon

as soon as he saw the house i think he rushed up to it, because even if it Wasnt his house it shouldnt be destroyed!!!! it was like there was a time limit. he panicked when he didnt have the money (he didnt sell gems or dragon parts at the time…) but he prevailed (selling monster parts). he does not like chopping wood.

when he got there there wasnt much fanfare? everybody thought he was Just Some Guy (he never wears the champions tunic, as well as never using the champions weapons because theyll break). he completely didnt see the guard guy and just. activated the shrine. he would learn of the statue through the small glasses child and would probably talk to the statue more if a heart container wasnt just stolen. if he could save scum he would to avoid the encounter entirely but because he cant he may just. let the statue have it. until extremely later and he talks to it again after years. i think hed show the fireflies to the statue. also i dont think he talked to anyone besides bolson and purah and symin. except for the stolen sheeps person + the shopkeeper. everytime hes there he will Always buy milk rice eggs etc. cooking ingredients are something hed never pass up. he would be a regular of yammo despite her traveling.

though i think he’d spend a lot less time in hateno than you think. its his home but also he likes to travel + have fresh air and places, and also he visits the champions villages more often than not. except for zoras domain unless he Needs to. otherwise he’d still be in lanayru and visit ruta but still be a bit of a distance away. he also doesnt visit goron city a lot though hes less averse to that. also i think he’d like ebon mountain, especially because its behind his house + he gets a good view. he would tell the guy there the actual heart lake location. also i think fairies spawn there at night (both locations)

i think some locations would be there pre cal but arent post cal. i have the excuse of the mayor mentioning that hateno was still built back from the ground (i can get the dialogue if you want!!) . specifically thered be this one hot chocolate place he’d go to that doesnt exist anymore. through a quest he can get the recipe and share it with the elders but yeah. maybe a library and actual church but shrugs

also sometimes i like to think a time capsule was buried in the backyard/under water. however thats neither here or there + it all depends on the au and how the story goes. he would miss his mom and have mixed feelings on his sister (they were also distant believe it or not. but that was his sister). he’d almost have the same reputation as purah for not leaving the house visibly i think and not talking to almost anyone.

also he hasnt dyed any of his clothes. theyre good enough for him 👍. pre cal he wouldve liked dying the act of dying a piece of fabric a lot

ALSO he doesnt hang the champions weapons in his house. he holds onto them and doesnt let go

one more thing: he’d make a note of picnic/quiet spots. theres one near the village but he doesnt really picnic with anyone even pre cal. he mostly just sits there

nmixx: honestly super cute!! i didnt know the TWO songs they did but they were fun little summertime bops! i was up and moving for their "the feels" twice cover tho and i thought i was sick of that song shout out to the girlies for performing it really well!

ive: ok i dont know if my section is just women hating or women defending but my whole row sat down for their TWO songs and everyone got on their phones (including me!) instead of watching. I was genuinely upset and angry that the stylists for ive put them (actual minors, actual schoolgirls) in slutty schoolgirl uniforms, furthering the sexualization of minors needlessly and im glad people around me were also not supportive of it. anyway i heard them perform kitch (got literally no love from my section) and love dive (slightly more love from my section) but pls can they get some help im tired of seeing them do an overly sexual love dive dance break in slutty outfits when they are actual minors

cravity: they had good energy! i didnt know their TWO songs but they had good vibes and worked really hard!

Mark of Athena, first reading thoughts:

—Forgot to post this again, who knows how long this has been on my notes.

—First, I loved having Annabeth's pov, I missed her as a central character and I loved the development she had here.

—BRO, they are all TOGETHER NOW AND THEY ARE IN A FLYING SHIP HAVING ADVENTURES. This the perfect setup, I would have read a 10 books series of just this.

—I liked so many diferent povs, at first I thought it may become confusing, but far from it, it was fun and so dinamic. I already love all these characters and getting in their heads throught the book was great.

— PERCY AND ANNABETH FINALLY REUNITED. 😭 It was so cute, 10/10

—The Argo II WAS SO COOL. It kind of reminded me of Legends of Tomorrow and I fricking love that show, I wish this dynamic of the seven on the ship lasted forever, I adore that kind of premise. Even the moments when they just weren´t getting along were interesting.

—I felt a vein popping out of my eye with all the Camp Jupiter hunting them down thing, because it was just a misunderstanding, but I do understand why it happend (a little), and it was just so frustraiting.

—All the interactions with Nemesis, Echo and Narcissus were such a trip, jesus.

—God, I fucking love Leo, not only because he is so funny, but because he is so incredibly smart. Is a diffrent kind of smart then Annabeth, wich I really love, they both bring interesting things to the table and is a delight to read.

—Wich is why Leo feeling so left out and like the "seventh wheel" was much more heartbreaking. He makes concernig comments the whole book, but because is just in his head nobody notices. I dont like where this is going...

—As much as I loved all the adventures, I was so stressed out for Nico the whole time, it was driving me insane.

—GJFHUYREGFEU Every single pov is so interesting, this book was GOLD. This is a masterclass in how to make distinctive narrative voices, it was so good.

—The break between Percy and Jason was actually very interesting. I was afraid it would be reduced to petty jelousy (wich it is a little, but I mean, they are teenagers), but there was some nuace there. Like, I felt like it drew interesting parallels of what makes them so opossite despite being the " "liders" " of their camps. It even drives home what makes the roman demigods and the greek demigods diferent.

—Jason being so serius and even cold, and Percy being as hotheaded as he is. Jason not knowing any other life apart from being a soldier vs Percy rejecting that life every chance he gets. Even the diferent perception they both have of the gods because each know a side of them the other doesn´t.

—Their possesed fight was kind of funny tbh.

—I also love having the chance to explore each characters powers with every obstacle, I feel like it was very well used, I never thought, "well, why didnt they used x power."

—"Please, she thought, wondering if her mom, the goddess of love, could hear her. Don’t let it be Jason’s final breath. If love means anything, don’t take him away" Oh, Piper, honey. These kids are legit breaking my heart.

—I really liked the scene of Annabeth and Percy on the stables, it was so sweet.

—I dont know exactly what it is, but I can tell this is a much more curated, experienced writter. And is absolutely fantastic to get so far into the series because I can tell by now Riordan knows these characters so well. They have so many layers, is specially interesting with Percy and Annabeth because we see them grow so much.

—The scene at the aquarium was very creepy and fun.

—Percy developing a fear of drowning was like, so sad.

—Ok Leo, I love you, but dont need to be a bully, come on.

—Jesus, the whole conflict Annabeth had with her mom in this book made me so sad. The way all the gods just use their children (and have been for generations) gets more unberable with each book, I dont respect any of them, these kids just... still try to make them proud and not think ill of them and its so unfair.

—Even the interaction with Aphrodite, I just kept getting angry. I got bad flashbacks from her praising the other two girls in front of Piper and making those weird comments.

—On this one it hits harder and harder that all this kids want is a future, a good life, and they just never get a chance.

—“You dropped this,” he said, totally poker-faced.

Annabeth threw her arms around him. “I love you!” (I died, actually)

—Was not a fan of Hercules´s aproach. Moving on.

— "Percy blinked. “So your brother is a winged horse. But you’re also my half brother, which means all the flying horses in the world are my... You know what? Let’s forget it.”

He’d learned years ago it was better not to dwell too much on who was related to whom on the godly side of things. After Tyson the Cyclops adopted him as a brother, Percy decided that that was

—The minute Annabeth went on her own I was so nervous, my heart was racing the rest of the book.

—Geez, I wanted to hug her so bad, everything just kept getting worse and worse.

—Gaea is seriusly getting on my nerves.

—There’s too much going on,” he said. “And honestly…before last month, I didn’t even know

when my birthday was. Thalia told me the last time she was at camp.” - That is so fucking sad.

— “What is that?” Jason asked nervously.

Piper slipped her hand into his. “The ghosts are dancing."

Dude! That entire scene of Piper, Percy and Jason and how it ralted with the story of the flood was AMAZING. Easy one of my favorite scenes from the whole saga.

—Rescuing Nico had me so stressed

—"Entertain me, heroes of Olympus." I- Im gonna kill him. I´m gonna kill ALL THE GO-

—Ok, but I liked Percy and Jason coming together and fighting alongside each other.

—Oh my poor Nico, CAN HE GET A BREAKE FOR ONCE

—My girl Annabeth, she is so smart, ahhhhh!

—But Also, WHAT WAS THE NEED TO MAKE HER SUFFER SO MUCH

—Few scenes had me in such a hold and as emotionally invested as the scene when Percy and Annabeth fall to Tartarus. What the Actual Hell. I was speechless for like an hour. The emotion, the tension, the terrible, brilliant moment when everything suddenly conects.

for general star wars:

my favourite resource by far is Wookieepedia. it's just an online encyclopedia of nearly every single conceivable thing in the SW universe for both canon and legends. Most articles feature a tab that can switch between canon and legends material, which makes organizing info really easy.

I also love @gffa for their incredibly well-informed posts, especially under their reference tag. But truly, the whole blog is a wealth of information and thoughtful takes.

I really enjoy Fit For a Queen a lot. its an extensive catalogue of outfits and costumes (mostly Padme's, but there are a few others) and how they were made, what their background is, etc. If anything, I find it really interesting, and it helps when I need to reference a certain outfit for art, fic, or whatever else. It's also a great source of Padme concept art!

I haven't used this one yet but I'm excited to. I was recently sent this post which features a link to transcripts from every episode of The Clone Wars.

I also highly recommend @nabooro, which is ran by my very brilliant friend. it's not a source of canonical info, but it is a really fascinating exploration into the culture of Naboo.

for obidala:

again @gffa because they have a really great obidala tag, with art, fic recs, etc.

@your-dose-of-obidala is a great source for art, edits, and fic (original and recs) as well!

@shierak-inavva is probably my favourite obidala artist and I often find great inspiration in their work (ie this post inspired part of the premise to this fic of mine, as well as a concept in another WIP). they do lots of other art too, and it's all very lovely. here's their obidala tag.

I personally track the obidala tag here on tumblr you'll find tons of really wonderful creators in it as well. I have found so many artists, writers, and friends there. At the risk of leaving any out, I will refrain from tagging anyone else and simply recommend you explore the tag.

for one i dont know for me having link as a secret hoarder who would rather DIE than use the full scope of his abilities around OTHER HEROS is just no bc thats fucking stupid levels of wanting to appear normal around OTHER HEROS possiblly the ONLY other ppl to ever understand what u r going through

for me having every single link act like a frat boy/standard teenage white boy who is emotionally constipated is a no??? have u SEEN link he is so sociable and kind and understanding to other ppl WHY r the links like this, so many fics just...make them stew in their issues for angst and not trust the others and be incredibly insecure about the other heros(which is lu canon for at least hyrule and wind i think?) and like ok that is definitely fine for 1 link but why r they all like this in the games link is clearly not like that he wouldn't be this closed off and wouldn't hesitate so much like my dude he just inserts himself into other ppl's lives to make them better than leaves he wouldn't pussyfoot around other heros like what

also another major issue is the mergings just lead to certain characterizations or important backstory for certain links(FOUR. LEGEND.) being completely erased and the nuance of their journeys lost like when u merge links who r canonically 100s of years apart not just in the timeline but in the GAMES? yeah u lose things that make that link special

also bc u mentioned wind waker i found it kinda fucked up that wind waker link was delegated to The Kid TM even tho his entire journey was about moving on from the past to a brighter future and he took on the mantle left behind by the hero of time on his own volition and did what Time COULDN'T do which is kill Ganon but he is constantly underestimated and made into the Kid Who Wants Approval trope specifically around Time which sucks ass ngl he deserves to be an equal him still being a kid while the others got to grow up, including Four who's first journey arguably would have been a better fit for this archtype of wide eyed kid, is just side lining one of the most interesting links especially considering most of the other links were YOUNGER than him when they started

this is all general stuff plus 1 of my issues w/ Wind bc ur a Wind Waker fan bc as a Spirit Track fan i feel a kinship, im gonna make another post for specifically each link breaking down my issues w/ how they r portrayed later bc rn it is 8am and i ment to just say haha ty for the permission but then my inner ranter came out i am INCAPABLE of being normal about lu especially after i actually experienced zelda games bc lu was my FIRST introduction to zelda outside of smash bros lol

I know nothing of fate but your ship sounds fascinating

im going to tell you about them now

so the whole conceit of fate is that mages can summon servants that are the incarnate versions of heroes kept in the collective cultural unconsciousness, and then make those heroes fight to the death in order to fulfill a blood ritual that gives the mages access to the Root, the very center of the magical universe

kariya is a fucked up little man whose whole thing is that he fails. he failed at being an heir because he ran away from his horrifically abusive family, he failed at romancing the woman he fell in love with, and he failed at protecting that womans daughter from being brought into kariyas horrifically abusive family. because that kid is one of the three sole people in the universe that loves kariya back kariyas like "welp i will now help her by taking her place in the murder ritual, subjecting my body to irreparable torture so im barely alive and in screaming pain every second of the day because i dont want her being alone and i dont want her to be the one in the position of sacrifice". he fails in this too dont worry.

for his servant in the murder ritual, he summons lancelot, whos loosely implied that kariyas been a fan of the arthurian legend. bc his grandfather whos torturing him is a dickhead, he forces kariya to summon lancelot with a curse of insanity on him which makes lancelot 1. demand much more magical energy from kariya which causes further pain to his deteriorating body 2. basically debases him as a hero

but the twist is that lancelot did that on purpose and debased himself into a "rabid dog" instead of a man because he hates himself for the betrayal of king arthur and doesnt want a face any more. this also emphasizes the inhuman aspects of lancelot, who in older myth has a bunch of fairy connections. he is a straight up faceless lake monster On Purpose.

He Wants This. the end of f/z will try to tell you he didnt, but if thats true then literally zero of his actions make sense. in return, lancelot busts into kariyas dream which manifests as him taking a naked kariya, biting him to drink his blood, and then declares that kariya "belongs to him" and essentially theyre bound 4ever. both lancelot and kariya are mega fuckups of people where kariya keeps mirroring lancelots legend that as you may know ends in disgrace and murder and depression and death, but lancelot keeps fighting for his wishes anyways. in the end, kariya sacrifices himself so lancelot can get his wish of facing king arthur instead. afterwards, every single time lancelot is summoned, he wears the curse of insanity that kariya gave him. he Will Not let it go, even though he got what he wanted to use that excuse of insanity for and could very easily simply drop the curse. later a "sane" lancelot gets summoned but this lancelot is arguably and imho a Completely Different Guy bc of the way the throne of heroes/collective unconscious works. look at me look into my eyes its because kariya and lancelot got bound together by blood sacrifice (lancelot drinking his blood and saying kariya belongs to him) and now lancelot will not leave this vestige of his first master behind.

also there's a scrapped novel illustration where its super mega implied berserker fucked kariya, because the f/z novel is 1. "the worst people you know and 2 functional gay couples experience the worst possible choices ever" 2. "the gay one", and even this was scrapped because everyone looked at urobuchi and was like "cmon man we cant put this one of the scrawny freak super defo dicked down by a haunted suit of armour in the book"

if anyone ever asks you if you know anything about fate now you can say u know the bug man and the haunted suit of armour got nasty

also dont read/watch fate/zero there are like 10000000000000 trigger warnings like real bad its if youre advanced committed to fate fandom. i cannot stress this enough. f/z was written as a King Arthur Torture Dungeon and has every trigger possible do not touch it unless you wanna read some real fucked shit.

Current ask game!

👀 Do you have any words/phrases you use habitually? 

I really like word "hence", I heard it once in like third grade and I basically made it a core part of my personality from then on. Not sure how often I use it in fic tho.... Other than that, I think I use a lot of -ly words as descriptors; wryly, ruefully, brightly, etc. A bit basic I'll admit but they get the point across and I don't have to dig out a thesaurus to understand what a character is expressing.

💕 What is the WIP that you are most excited about?

Well as mentioned in the tags of my og reblog, I've only got one WIP that I'm actually working on right now! The working title is "rest your head close to my heart, never to part (baby o'mine)", which will probably stay the title cause I always use song lyrics 😂 I'm usually inspired by music to write so it's only natural, I think. It's a fic for Anne of Green Gables, specifically the Sullivan tv movie continuity remixed into the original book continuity. Set 8 years after the third movie and with zero regard for any supposed "fourth" movies you may have heard of, it centers on the eldest Blythe child, Dominic, and how he comes to a sudden realization about himself in relation to the rest of his family, and how his question of "where did I come from?" Is answered.

Or, "so you forgot to mention to your firstborn that he's adopted and now he's asking Questions™ because he's realized he's the blonde sheep of your black-, brown- and red-haired family, what do you do?" But in fic form 😂😂😂.

I'm excited to see it finished cause I've been working on it for weeks, and because it's the first fic I've written in... A year, I think? So to get it written out will be an amazing achievement for me! I'm not sure how it'll be received cause it's a) the most self-indulgent fluffy-ass piece I've ever written--even more so than my Bradyverse, which I didn't think was possible--and is explicitly canon to the Anne movie that literally only me and like 5 other people like 😅😅 but who cares it's family fluff time!

⏰ What time of day do you prefer to write? 📌 If all your fics/WIPs fell off a ship and were drowning (go with it), and you could only save one, which would it be?

Time of day: whenever I've got a free moment tbh 😂😂 which currently tends to be the evenings as I work the morning shift 5 days a week. I've written or edited during my lunch times before tho so it's far from a hard and fast rule. When the inspiration strikes, it strikes!

Pick one WIP to save: well considering I only have one WIP that I'm currently working on (sorry professors!macdalton au, hopefully I'll get back to you one day), I'd say it's gonna have to be that one, titled "rest your head close to my heart, never to part (baby o'mine)". Even if it wasn't my only wip tho it'd probly be the one I save cause it's also one of the longest-taking wip I've ever had (the Brady verse doesn't count that was less one full wip and more a bunch of little snippets) and the fact that I'm still not done even tho it's been weeks is like. Torture. So I *will* finish this goddamn fic if it kills me. Wouldn't be the first death in the series at least (tho to be clear, nobody dies in this fic. It... Just happens to be about the mc finding out he's an adopted orphan, so. Clearly somebody had to die along the way. Multiple somebodies, even.)

Oleana and Rose are up there for their writing 100%. I don't like how Oleana is just a crazy secretary in the games. im so so SO happy about her Twilight Wings Episode; but i really wish that we saw this in-game (then again i havent. seen the dlcs AT ALL so if she does show up again... i wouldnt know lol). Rose is just.... a mess. Like, I see people debate whether he's good, or bad, or morally grey, but thats the thing- I feel like his character is all OVER the place and he was just. Done so badly. People can complain about how no one hates pokemon more than pokemon fans, or how pokemon fans are never satisfied, but thats because these games are just... disappointing coming from GameFreak.

Like, ok, I wouldnt call Pokemon Legends: Arceus terrible. I thought it was great! It was really fun and I played it for MONTHS. But theres issues that reflect how badly the time constraints are on the games quality: Its storyline and graphics aren't the best, they arent complete shit but they are pretty disappointing coming from a 90 billion dollar game development company.

I'm not saying that means they should be perfect at making games, I'm saying that means they should have the time and money to create something at least enjoyable in every aspect. Another example with SwSh: Good graphics, great character design and beautiful environment design for the towns, but oh my god did the plot of the game suffer.

PLA also came out with no Pokemon HOME compatibility as well as BDSP, which is also disappointing: you think that these games would have compatibility soon after release but that didnt come out until May 18th, approx. 4 months after PL:A came out. IIRC, Sun and Moon got Bank compatibility 2 months after their release. These games are coming out missing core features and adding them so much later! It's disappointing.

With ScVi coming out tomorrow (despite being leaked COMPLETELY) I can't say my hopes are too high about it, and its likely I'll have to wait until Christmas for it to see the whole thing for myself. ScVi apparently began development in 2019, but unless it can reflect that it's been given the time it needed, they have GOT to stop cranking these games out every year.

Buddist anon here again (god I should really create a tumblr to talk to you). I think I know why our perspective of the jedi differ. Sorry, I should have made clear to you that only consider the Prequels (PT), Original Trilogy (OT), and the The Clone Wars (TCW) canon and I base most of my opinions from there bc George Lucus worked on those things and Lucas doesn't view anything out of those things canon. For the rest (Legends, EU, games, etx), I pick and choose what I take as canon. If it doesn't align with what I think Lucas's ideas and themes are like the entire idea of gray jedi, i ignore it. Some things that I like and consider canon that's not apart of Lucas's canon is "Obi-wan & Anakin", "Dooku:lost Jedi", "Shatterpoint", the Revenge of the Sith novelization, and "Scum and Villainy". I really liked the "Star Wars Propaganda: A history of Persuasive Art in the Galaxy" book and thought it was really interesting.

So when you say that the galaxy can't be held accountable for standing up for themselves because their the victims and the government is corrupt enough that it wouldn't matter. But how do you think their government ended up that way? It's because the public gradually stopped holding their government accountable and stopped paying attention to politics (you kinda see this in the US). Of course this doesn't apply to governments who were corrupt from the get go. In the PT and TCW, the jedi do help where they can help. But they can't be everywhere at once. I don't know anywhere in the PT and TCW, where the jedi refuse to help when they can help.

The galaxy views the jedi as miracle workers because most ppl have never seen a jedi (remember they're a tiny minority in galaxy full of billions of people) so exagerated rumors spread about everything a jedi can do NOT because the jedi themselves believe that.

For the children thing, based on my understanding from the PT and TCW, the kids aren't taken from their parents, the kids are adopted by the jedi. For most cases, the jedi are given the kids by their parents. In TCW, the Disappeared episodes show the Jedi respecting the wishes of and stopped going to the planet of Bardottans who were unwilling to give their kids to them and accused them of being kidnappers (they found out later that the anti-Jedi attitudes was influenced by rumors spread by the Frangawl Cult, who didnt want the Jedi to discover their plans). In The Children Of The Force episode (esentially Cad Bane steals force sensative babies/infants), Wee Dunn (the Rodian infant) was left with his bio mom despite being intended to be a Jedi. His mom specially said "Master Ropal said that they would come for him to go to the temple but nor for some time." to Cad Bane when he pretended to be a Jedi to steal her kid. If the Jedi just took force sensitive kids, Cad Bane wouldn't have to trick her into giving her kid up. Roo-Roo Page (the Gungan child Bane attempts to steal) is left with her bio mother, there's no indication that she's going to be a Jedi, only that she was on the Force-senssative list. The Jedi don't seem to feel a need to have every single Force-sensative child become a child, considering:

a) they first thought that it was safer to leave Anakin untrained

b) left the Bardottans, Nightsisters, etc alone

c) let ppl leave if they want and still speak highly of them (in Attack of The Clones, the Jedi are reluctant to even entertain the idea that Dooku tried to assassinate Padme).

The Jedi ADOPT kids they don't kidnap them. And from what I can see from the PT and TCW, the Jedi Order are preety respectful about other people's culture and that Jedi from different cultures are allowed and encouraged to celebrate and practice and learn about their birth culture. Are there parents who were pressured to give their kids up? Probably but its probably a miniscule ammount and isnt mensioned in the OT, PT, or TCW. Tbh I don't know why there is a cut-off for kids, I have to think about this more.

I do agree with you that people with power should be held accountable. But why should the Jedi be held more accountable then the corrupt government that rarely ever listens to them? A few notable examples:

- Obi-wan tries for diplomacy bw the Talz and the Pantoran, but is told it's an internal Pantoran matter (TCW, "Trespass")

- Mace tries to prevent further testing done on the Zilo beast and set the Zilo beast free in an uninhabited planet but Palpatine overruled him on Malastare. Later on Coruscant, Mace tries warning Palpatine that bringing the Zilo beast here was a mistake, but Palpatine ignores him (TCW, "The Zilo Beast")

- Mace says that they don't want to send Anakin to Tatooine to make a treaty with the Hutts, but Palpatine does anyway (Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie)

- Mace attempts to stop Palpatine from interfering with Anakin but Palpatine pulls rank and shuts him down:

"Thank you Chancellor, but I'm sure Obi-wan has it well in hand."

"Why, young Skywalker is a Jedi, is he not? The Jedi are under the Senate's jurisdiction. And as i the Chancellor of the Senate..." (Obi-Wan &Anakin)

-Dooku as a Jedi advocates for Serenno in the Senate is practically told to fuck off: "With all due respect, our honorable friend oversteps the mark. The Jedi Council claims to be a servant of the republic, and yet here they are ateenpting to influence senatorial policy. Master Dooku has no buisness petitioning the Senate on such matters." (Dooku: Lost Jedi)

- Mace tries to get Boba's sentence reduced, but is ignored: "A recommendation from Gerneral Windu suggested leniency and rehabilitation as opposed to corporal punishment, a request that ultimately fell on deaf ears in the Judiciary, who cited zero tolerance to attacks against military assets in this time of war." [Scum and Villainy]

Obviously the Jedi weren't perfect because they're people and people are never flawless but they do try to use what little political sway they do have to help better things, but they just get shut down time and time again. They work within the system because they still belive that the Republic can become better.

Now, I'm sorry but I'm going to ask something completely off topic. Do you like thriller psychological crime kdramas? If you do I have a rec for you.

ooh, i treat most games as canon because swtor is amazing, let me tell you that. i can't stop talking about it tbh.

and if i made it seem that "the government is corrupt enough that it wouldn't matter" because that's definitely not what i meant. what i meant with my whole rant is that yes, while the government should be held accountable, the jedi should also be held accountable. it's not entirely the fault of the jedi but they should also share that fault. and you can't really blame the victims for it because that would end up as victim blaming.

victims don't normally know they're victims and have to rely on higher power for them to realize that they really are victims. hypothetically speaking, while some may acknowledge and know that the government should be held accountable, what are they going to do about that without resources? my point with telling victims that they're kind of at fault for not standing up for themselves, is just that you can't expect them to do that. because that's what they are: victims. it may be because of education and the influence of their government as to why they don't know they are victims, which goes back to the government being at fault too, and there are many factors involved but you don't blame the victims. i understand that maybe, that's not what you're trying to say, but i want to clear that up. they should never be held accountable for failing to stand up for themselves because they're the victims.

as for the jedi, i'm sorry if it seemed that i was throwing all the blame at them but what i was trying to say is that they should be held accountable too. they are, at the end of the day, in a privileged position with magical jedi powers, an organization that's been out and about for a lot of years.

i'm also not saying that they should be held more accountable than the people who are literally doing the bad things themselves but they should be held more accountable than they should be. jedis have been around for, like we all know, more than enough years, and there are many times when they sat around and did nothing (though this is in reference to kotor which isn't considered as canon by most people, like you said). so you can ignore this part, but privileged people can always do more. they can always try harder.

and as for the kids...

i get that the jedis don't kidnap them. i hope i didn't allude to that accusation but there's just something inherently wrong with jedis taking kids from their parents, whether it looks like adoption or not. i don't think anyone can justify this to me. i understand it's for the children's safety, and for the "no attachment" rule, but it just bothers me a lot. i feel uncomfortable just thinking about it. that's probably the 'i grew up in an asian household and had a complicated childhood so i'm 100% more sensitive towards the topic of children' in me. but while i understand that, imo, it can't be justified for me.

no one can really convince me to stop being uncomfortable at the idea of jedi taking children, adoption or not. so that's it for me :") and you should definitely make a tumblr! i'd love to talk about this more with you ^

as for the psychological thriller, yup! i love psychological thrillers. i'm not very fond of kdramas since i find them really long and repetitive, and i'm not the type to watch them tbh... but i'd love recommendations regardless :D

weve got a good variety. Breaks is the most normal about it doesnt seek it out doesnt shy away from it. comes with the territory of being the older brother to the worlds clingiest little sister. speaking of sister Spore is still like that. always hovering over someone or leaning dramatically into their shoulders to look at something (gives the best hugs <3) does it with everyone rlly. Rina is the opposite <3 hates touch on every level and only puts up with it ifor Breaks and Spore's sake. even then spent a very long time unable to put up with Spore's nonsense. will offer one (1) hug on a good day.

11: How competitive is your oc? Is every little task something that they can win, or are they just in competitions for the fun of it? Is there anyone they’re most competitive with?

all of them are insane. are you kidding me. you go like i bet i can do this thing youve never even attempted better than you and all three of them are like i will. beat you to death. spore and breaks are the worst with each other. rina is the worst with everyone ever if she loses no she didnt <3 it could be a normal day doing a casual thing and shed be insane about it. she sucks at mario kart btw

great question. spore is the least surprising to anyone she knows 2 topics like the back of her hand, its the history of kvatch and the hero of kvatch himself and every little myth and legend from the divines (her and elyss worst catholic, fight !!) nerd shit. no one enjoys it. rina is slightly less surprising she knows a lot ofstuff about skills to just like live on her own like cooking and textiles and hunting and growing shit and can tell youy a lot about ant of those. also knows a lot about deer and their behaviors but if you ask her how she knows shell look at you like ._. breaks is our lovely assassin he knows a lot of poisons and shit but with that territory also comes a HELL of a lot of knowledge on potions to heal people and every single combination to make even the most simple of potion. he doesnt use this knowledge a lot since he is rarely ever in a situation where he needs to pull out like Minor Health Potion since his two traveling companions are his paladin sister and the lycanthrope magic user who knows at least basic healing spells.

rina is a problem because she has never been wrong ever fuck you if you think differently. she will change but only after too long convincing her to stop being a dick about it. will fight you about it. breaks is also kind of stubborn but in a way where hell be like silently disagreeing before going fine okay and then complain to someone about it later. spore is by far the least stubborn of all of them she takes no shit about what they believe it but is also more than willing to hear most people out. comes with the territory of trying to be a fairytale hero

39:How superstitious your oc? Do they end up following them ‘just in case’? Or are superstitions incredibly important to your oc? What are some that they believe? What about the ones they don’t?

breaks doesnt believe in any superstisious shit the only reason he believes in some of it in his world is its afantasy one. would roll his eyes into the back of his head in the real eworld hearing anything about ghosts or knocking on wood or anything even remotely close to it. the only thing he believes in is fucking santa claus. rina and spore are the exact opposite. both believe in more tame ones like classic breaking mirrors gives bad luck or (this one is from the actual game) talking on tales and tallows out of the belief spirits will possess the body, insert breaks eyeroll. the difference is spore doesnt do it because she is scared rina doesnt talk because she doesnt want to deal with it if it is real (she is also scared). both also carry supersitions from their time as worshipers of stendarr like if you give to others good will come your way or if you strike those weaker than you stendarr will strip you of his blessing (canon in the lore! ask me about elder scrolls facts)
