"I'm telling you Geralt, my songs are definitely working."
"A few contracts not skimping on payment isn't proof Jaskier. It's coincidence." Geralt replied as he stuffed his newly purchased supplies into Roach's saddlebag. After two years, he didn't need to look to know the bard was probably doing his uncanny impression of a landed trout. His default expression when he thought himself gravely offended.
"Oh hoho. So it's proof you want? Fine, I'll get you proof you old cynic - wait, I'm here calling you old, how old are you? I know Witchers age differently but it's all so contradictory. I remember one text claiming you aged backwards. Backwards!"
Geralt was blessedly distracted from Jaskier's tangent by a small tug on his cloak causing him to look behind him and then down.
A small, tear stained face with huge, liquid brown eyes looked up at him. The hand that wasn't clutching Geralt's cloak fisted in the skirt of a green dress as she shuffled her small, booted feet. Witcher and child stared at one another and even Jaskier had fallen silent.
"Are you the White Wolf?" She asked in a small voice.
Geralt could only nod in response, keeping an eye and both ears out for angry adults about to accuse him of kidnapping.
"I can't find my Papa." She sniffled, voice trembling and eyes welling up.
He felt himself slip into Witcher mode, trying to think what could be snatching people from a crowded town in the middle of the day, "What do you mean you can't find him, has he gone missing or-"
"Sweetheart, do you mean you got separated from your Papa in the market?" Jaskier gently interjected before Geralt could start fully interrogating her. The girl gave a small nod, turning her attention to the bard now kneeling in the dirt next to her.
Geralt felt his face heat up. Right. Just a lost child. That was also a possible (and the most logical) explanation.
"It's ok, we'll help you find him. Won't we Geralt?" Jaskier's tone of voice leaving no room for argument.
It turned out that Jaskier's idea of helping was having the girl perch on Geralt's shoulders and scan the top of the crowd for her father while he stood playing silly little dittys to keep her from crying again. Geralt holding onto her shins lightly and trying to ignore the mess being made on his cloak by muddy feet.
"I see him! Papa! Papa!"
Geralt tightened his grip slightly as her weight shifted with her frantic waving. Waiting until he was clearly making his way over to them before setting her gently back on the ground.
"Mika! Oh thank the God's." He turned his attention to the two men, his eyes widened as he took Geralt in fully.
"You're-"
"Hmmm."
Geralt tried to hide his surprise as the man grasped his hand in a firm if slightly clammy grip. "My thanks Wolf. I swear, if I went home without her my wife would make sure I shared the same fate as that Hag from the song of yours." He said, smiling awkwardly at his own attempt at humour, "Come on Mika, say goodbye. Oh, here."
He reached into his satchel and pulled something out. Geralt could smell warm sugar as he handed it over. "It's not much, but I don't know a single person who doesn't like cake. I could do with cutting down myself." He said, patting his own slight paunch before taking his daughters hand with a final "Thank you." Mika turning back to give a wave which they both returned before the two of them disappeared into the crowd.
"What?" Geralt asked as they left the town. The bard hadn't stopped grinning at him like the cat who'd got the canary.
"Nothing. It just, the timing and everything. Seems Destiny agreed with me for once. The songs are making a difference."
"Hmm." Geralt fought the urge to roll his eyes.
"Oh don't give me that." Jaskier said, swatting Geralt in the side as he unwrapped the package Mika's father had given them, "You saw as well as I did there were plenty of town guards around but she went to you. She wanted you. Oooh, maybe this would be good for a new song. The Gentle Wolf! Yes I- hey! "
"No cake for you until you stop." Geralt stated, popping a piece into his own mouth to hide his smile.

Geralt meets up with Jaskier at the marketplace only to find him unusually flustered by some merchant he's talking to. Strange, usually its the other way around. Rolling his eyes at another possible angry spouse situation, Geralt stalks his way towards them.
He couldn't really tell you why exactly he's more irritated now- when Jaskier is the one stuttering and blushing under the charms of this fucking nobody- and so he pointedly ignores the little twinge he feels in his chest .
The merchant stands to casually roll the sleeves of his shirt up to his elbows and smiling wider when Jaskier knocks his lutecase against the stall, thoroughly distracted.
With a low growl he didn't realize he was doing, Geralt lays a hand on Jaskier's shoulder once he's close enough. The bard squeaks, turning to Geralt and flushes a deeper shade of red.
"G-Geralt! I didn't hear you, my friend." The bard smiles, but his eyes are slightly frantic.
"Is everything alright?" He asks and before his bard could answer-
"Everything just fine, my good witcher! Was just asking Master Jaskier here to tell me a few stories of his travels." Geralt turns, eye twitching slightly at the interruption. He finally gets a good look at the fucker who seems to have his bard in a blushing mess. Dark wavy hair, strong build, piercing blue eyes, strong jaw and dimples as he smiles.
Nothing they hasn't seen before. Daresay, Geralt might even guess that this man- no, this boy was downright boring to look at, compared to all the other colorful people Jaskier surrounds himself with. Still, the child continues.
"I was just wondering if he had the time to tell me a few over dinner-"
"He's busy."
"Oh, well maybe at breakfas-"
"We leave at dawn."
A tense silence settles between the three. Jaskier's eyes widen upon reading Geralt's attitude. His witcher was thoroughly annoyed. Why? He's not so sure yet but with the snarl on his face and the clenching fists, Jaskier figures it's probably best if they leave now.
"Okay I think it's about time we settle back at the inn, wouldn't you say, Geralt? Right." He doesn't wait for a response, instead snaking his hand around Geralt's arm and tugging hard.
"Henry! Wonderful meeting you, of course. Thank you for your lovely company this afternoon but I'm afraid we have a contract bright and early tomorrow so we really must go. Goodbye!" Jaskier watches the young man startle from his frozen state to a disappointed look as they walk away. Jaskier is reminded of a kicked puppy.
Once they were a safe distance away, the bard turns to ask what the hell was all that about when he realizes that Geralt was straining his neck looking back at the man, eyes narrowed with one of those scowls Jaskier sees him use on people who think its a good idea to touch Roach, or one of his bags, or apparently now Jaskier himself.
"Will you stop that??" The bard all but smacks Geralt's face forward to stop him. The witcher, ever stubborn resists and only relents when he feels a palm cup his cheek to face him.
"What the fuck had you so enamored with him?" Geralt grumbles, like a grump. Jask stops them and shoots him a confused look.
"You don't see it?" He cryptically says, which only confuses Geralt as well.
"See what?" A beat of silence before Jaskier huffs an amused laugh and drags them into the inn, arms linked.
"Nevermind." Jaskier smiles.

I'm still trying to figure out how I feel about season 3 of The Witcher, but one thing is for certain, I'm loving Jaskier's progression as a character.
I think it goes without saying that a huge turning point for Jaskier was his falling out with Geralt on the mountain in season 1. As I read his character at that point, he was quite in love with Geralt, and very much suffering from the belief that he wasn't enough for Geralt in any sense of the word, not as a lover, a friend, or a traveling partner. You see this insecurity ramp up throughout the entirety of the season 1 finale, and to think Geralt hadn't noticed that was lunacy. He did, which was part of the problem. Geralt needed to lash out, he needed someone to lash out at, and there Jaskier was, already wounded, the easiest of targets, and Geralt goes full savanna apex predator on his ass. Then he left him, on a mountain, that he knew Jaskier didn't know how to traverse safely. He said fuck off, and also die.
Jaskier could have crumbled, and for awhile, he probably did. But this led to a key moment of character development, because it caused Jaskier to take himself out of Geralt's shoes and get back into his own. To introspect. And Jaskier realized that he was enough, that he'd done a lot for Geralt, and that Geralt's refusal to embrace his own humanity while still wanting Jaskier as a friend resulted in him becoming an emotional punching bag. And Jaskier, rightfully pissed off after reaching these conclusions, channeled that anger into the post-break-up banger of the century, Burn Witcher Burn. But at the core of what ultimately makes Jaskier one of the most sympathetic and relatable characters in this show, is that he didn't do it so much as he was angry, but because he wanted Geralt to hear it. Because his songs are how he expresses what can't be spoken. The tragedy of Jaskier's character is that he was always going to forgive Geralt. That he was always going to drop what he was doing to trail this man with an affection even Yennefer doesn't easily mock, because it would be entirely too cruel. He wrote that song so Geralt would come and say he was sorry and Jaskier could go back to settling for scraps of his time.
So then we come to season 3, and enter Radovid. Enter the first person Jaskier's met in 30 long years that intrigues him as much as Geralt, and he's absolutely taken off his guard by that sentiment being returned after he's spent over half his life accepting something like that could never happen for him. He's 50 years old. Jaskier has accepted his fate of endless pining at this point. So when Radovid asks him to sing a song about his white-haired witcher, Jaskier slips up. He reveals too much, and it gives Radovid the chance to say exactly what Jaskier needed to hear.
"Does the witcher know how lucky he is to have you?"
I imagine it's rare for Jaskier, who spends his life finding the right words for others, that someone would find the right words for him. It's little wonder he was so immediately fascinated by Radovid, and so immediately heartbroken.
For 3 seasons and multiple decades, we see Jaskier's entire character formed by the hurt he endures being part of Geralt, Yennefer, and Cirri's life. And despite all that hurt, all the rejection, the betrayal, the torture, harassment, manipulations, and political intrigue we see Jaskier progressively becoming a better and better person. He helps Geralt, Yennefer, he helps the elves as the Sandpiper, and watches Cirri without a word of complaint. He throws himself into any dangerous situation asked of him, and helps Yarpen's men. He doesn't let the pain make him bitter. He still thinks love is beautiful, even when it hurts. He drinks, he fucks, he makes merry. He writes sad songs about Geralt.
Jaskier's development, his portrayal as a character, has been a true highlight of this series.
I sometimes think the djinn, in some cruel last jab at Jaskier and Yenn, used them both in Geralt's wish as a form of punishment. For Jaskier, his punishment for wanting so much, so quickly, was to spend his life wanting the one thing he couldn't have. That thing being Geralt, because to punish Yen, who so badly wanted control of her own destiny, he tied it to Geralt's. It's like a magical ouroboros of misery. And for Geralt, who tried to put a stop to the madness, the djinn rewarded him with the thing he wanted most. A family. A wife, a daughter, and a best friend who would never leave. It's some dark and complicated shit, and I think it rings true to the tone of the story itself.
Never has any character in this history of everything deserved to bone a hot Redanian prince more.

What is "Dragons hurt dragons" about?
I think I’ve been asked this before, but I’ll answer it again, no problem. This time I’ll give more details. “Dragons hurt dragons” is a story taking place in the same Universe as “A Sand Particle Show”.
PREPARE YOURSELF FOR A MASSIVE INFO DUMP
It is about one of the first civilizations of mortals, created by the god of life SamoDobro and led by the god of death GaderyPoluki. The gods are young and haven't figured out how to properly care for their creations. SamoDobro found that experimenting is the most effective (and fun) way to gain knowledge. He came up with the idea of placing mortals on several small planets with different environments and resources.
Tumblr media
The main characters of this story belong to the species called kettle dragons, named after the shape of their planet. (It is actually teapot-shaped but shhh). The Kettle is the biggest and the wealthiest planet of all. Its climate is warm, food is easily accessible and the ground is filled with gold. The kettle dragons grew so full of themselves, they believe to be superior not only to other species, but also to their compatriots. Everyone claimed to be a king or a queen and demanded obedience, but in the planet full of arrogant rulers there is no one to give orders to. They split the land into MANY tiny kingdoms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The three of main characters: Irys, Passiflora and Tulipan; live in one castle, which is divided into 3 parts that they call their own "kingdoms". They hate each other, especially Irys and Tulipan. For fear of passing on their share to their castle-mates (castle-mate?, is that a word?) after death, each adopted an heir, whose names are Jaśmin, Hiacynt and Jaskier. (also main characters)
Irys -> Hiacynt; Passiflora -> Jaśmin; Tulipan -> Jaskier
Tumblr media
There is no solid plot in this story, it is mostly about shenanigans of the main characters and how they deal with living in a such nonsensical society.
They follow a some sort of routine; Jaśmin sneaks out of the castle every night and gives her guardian Passiflora a headache; Irys constantly tries to kill Tulipan and forces Hiacynt to help him with that; Jaskier wants to be a soldier and (without the others' consent) transformed the living room into a training ground.
Tumblr media
The kettle dragons' routine was interrupted by a mysterious figure. Its appearance alone arouses confusion because it doesn't fit the description of any existing species.
One day, the outsider climbed the tallest tree in the middle of the cemetery, which is a sacred place for all kettle dragons, and began to speak. He claimed to be the Prophet and the future son of the third god who would soon be born. No one believed him, he was quickly thrown out of the cemetery.
Tumblr media
But he never left. Many dragons claim that the Prophet follows them or whispers in their ears while they sleep. Soon, kings and queens begin to disappear without a trace.
Tumblr media
The gods don't do anything about it, as they said: "It's finally getting interesting" 👍
Other characters here are: Ocel the furnace dragon, Len the true dragon king, Maciejek, also SemiSue and LostMedia.

Jaskier is the luckiest man on the continent. He and Geralt are together now. After so many years of longing, the witcher has finally seen him. He can finally comb the witcher's hair and pep kisses all over his handsome face. He can cherish him every way he can to make him feel wanted, worthy of love and safety.
The best part? Geralt is willing to accept his love and he seems happy with it. Jaskier wants to believe that even more happy that when he is with Yennefer. Geralt also shows him how much he cares about him. Some days Jaskier finds in the witcher's gaze something close to love. Jaskier's happy too.
Geralt hugs him close at night, the sounds of crickets the only thing that break their closeness, their love. Jaskier is starting to believe this is going to last forever. They want to spend their lives together as long as destiny lets them. It's the perfect life.
Too perfect. The truth crushes his reality in the form of a beautiful and dangerous sorcerer.
"It's not real, bard" says Yennefer in a mocking tone.
"You're only jealous cause I won! Geralt now loves me as much as he loves you, no, I think he loves me more!" he's behaving like a child, he knows, but he's allowed to do it after so many years trying to be better than her, trying to get Geralt's attention.
"You haven't told him?" it worries Jaskier that the mocking expression on Yennefer shifts immediately to one of apprehension.
“I can’t” says Geralt looking away from them.
"Ok, now what are you talking about?" every time Geralt and Yennefer have a silent conversation Jaskier is always the one to lose. Please let this not be it. The bard pleads silently to no one in particular.
"Yen" Geralt warns but Yennefer doesn't listen to him, she never does.
"He's under a spell bard" says her while looking at his eyes with grave seriousness, like you'd do to a child.  "This is not real. The same spell prevents Geralt from telling you the truth. I'm sorry."
"But... no, no, it's not truth. Geralt, tell her." The witcher look at him with so much sorrow and shame drowning the love from before. And then, Geralt looks away and doesn't say anything.
He can't see anything behind the fat tears wetting his face. The white noise in his ears must be the noise of his heart shattered beyond repair.
Jaskier turns around, takes his things from Roaches saddlebags, and flees to the trees.
He thinks he hears Geralt calling his name.
This is a part form a love spell au I publish a long ago but i can't seem to find. Sorry for that.

Jaskier: the emotional support bard for EVERYONE
Well, remember my "Things we learned/confirmed about our bard in Vol. 2" post? You can see it here.
I haven't stopped thinking about point #16 (He's the emotional support bard for EVERYONE (Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri and even Dara) but who the hell is my baby's emotional support?) and after many sleepless nights I finally got around to it to write something about it.
So here you have 2k words of hurt/angst for my beautiful bard. Because he needs to vent to someone and I love a Geralt writhing in pain and guilt :D
-------------
Geralt is truly grateful to have Jaskier in his life. Having him is the true blessing.
The bard is always by his side, with a soft and understanding smile on his face, with the right words that will give shelter to their hearts and a joke to lighten the mood.
He knows just the right combination of words to make Yennefer smile sincerely. He knows what song to sing for Ciri after her nightmares. He knows what to say to elves who have lost their homes and families to always keep them hopeful.
And of course, Jaskier is always sincere about his emotions, the things he likes, the things he dislikes.
Jaskier is colorful, loud, colorful and true with his feelings.
That's why Geralt is at a loss for what to do when he hears Radovid comforting his bard.
Geralt was about to tell them both to gather by the fire to continue the party after saying goodnight to Ciri. The party in the forest was in full swing when both lovebirds decided to step away from the spotlight and spend some time alone.
"How are you, lark?" asks Radovid.
"I'm perfect, my prince. All things are finally flowing properly" replies the bard cheerfully.
There is silence for a moment, Geralt sneaking up on the pair, not wanting to abruptly interrupt their moment.
"I could see how your hands shook as we approached the fire, I also noticed that you didn't play your usual notes on your lute, and of course, you tried to sing the dirtiest songs in your repertoire only to have your friends tell you to stop singing in front of the girl" the prince murmurs softly and Geralt stops his steps altogether.
"Well, I wouldn't want a witcher and his sorceress to cut little Jaskier for singing obscenities in front of his daughter. You should thank me for stopping, I know how much you enjoy little Jaskier."
A silence follows, Geralt thinks the matter is settled, that Jaskier is fine.
"And now you're evading the issue" replies the prince in a tone Geralt can't detect. "You said you weren't afraid of the fire anymore but you sat in the farthest place from the campfire, you didn't have your twitch with the strings and I know you only do that when you don't want to want to keep playing the lute and I also know you only sing your dirtiest songs when you want to make people uncomfortable and make them stop asking you for songs.
I ask you again, how are you?"
Jaskier doesn't respond. Geralt holds his breath and frowns in the darkness.
Jaskier isn't acting weird, it's just Jaskier being Jaskier, Geralt thinks. His bard is always happy, in fact he is surprised that he always smells like honeysuckle and lavender all the time because humans always have a wide variety of smells about them. Sadness, anger, joy, satisfaction, and more and more, but Jaskier always smells of happiness, and several (many) times of lust. Radovid believes that just by knowing Jaskier for a few years he is already able to read him backwards and forwards. Like him
Jaskier doesn't say anything for several minutes and for a second, it seems like the conversation has stopped there, maybe he'll start cracking a joke about how being the most famous bard on the continent is taking its toll on him or maybe he'll comment that Radovid isn't giving him any enough attention.
If there's one thing everyone who knows Jaskier personally knows, it's that the bard is...
"I'm tired "
And Geralt's heart stops. Because he has never heard the bard speak in that tone. Not even when they had walked miles and miles for hours, not when they had spent days and days sleeping outside instead of an inn, not even when Geralt apologized after the mountain. It's not the kind of physical exhaustion that Jaskier always brags about, it's the exhaustion that comes from his soul.
A soft sound is heard and the witcher must not have special mutations to know that the prince has gotten closer to the poet “Dear heart, it is me. "You know you don't need to pretend to be someone you're not with me."
More silence. More doubts.
And then, like a dam that has broken, Geralt smells for the first time the bitter aroma of rotting dandelions: Jaskier's sadness.
"I feel so lonely." Jaskier sighs, an exhausted, desperate sigh.
And then the sobs come.
Geralt can imagine the prince holding Jaskier in his arms because the poet's voice sounds muffled and sobbing.
Jaskier talks about how he has always felt sad and alone since he was a child. How sometimes he is not able to remember his childhood because his mind has blocked everything bad to protect him. He talks about how music saved his life, how sometimes it's not enough and he just forces himself to make it enough.
Geralt thinks about the times Jaskier didn't sleep or eat because he stayed to write in his notebook, how he took his lute and held it to his chest saying that the muses were blessing him with inspiration. He now wonders how much was real and how much was the bard breaking.
The bard tells the prince how scared he was when he first toured the continent, fearing that he would have to crawl back to his parents to survive. The happiness of being able to find Geralt and follow him. The sadness of being rejected over and over again by the only person who was his lighthouse at that moment. The panic attacks he suffered when he woke up and Geralt was already gone. The tremors in his legs when he ran to the next town to catch up with the witcher and the fake smiles he had shown when pretending that their reunion was accidental.
Geralt remembers a time, in Temeria, when he found Jaskier drinking beer in a tavern and how his leg kept moving, up and down over and over again. How Jaskier told him it was the emotion that the red-haired waitress caused him. He tries to remember how many miles Jaskier had to walk by himself.
Jaskier tells him how devastated he was when Geralt left him. Because he knows that 20 years are nothing for a witcher but they were half of his human life. He tells him that he returned to Geralt because he missed him and is his best friend, the person he has the most faith in, but he doesn't think he can trust him again, not like before. Because he had been his only friend, his only constant after leaving and being disowned by his own family, because he had given him his youth, voice and friendship for decades and yet Geralt had left him. And his heart is so broken that he can't put another patch on it or will be useless forever.
He tells him how ashamed he is of his human condition. Because he's surrounded by gods who can set the world on fire literally and figuratively, he clings so hard to being someone magnificent like them, but sometimes he's so exhausting that the very breath escapes him. He tells that every time they make a joke about being weak, worthless or just being left behind he gets it because they remind him of his family, but now it has become a dull ache that builds up in his heart and he knows it's wrong, but now has gotten used to it.
Geralt doesn't even have a specific memory, but he knows that he has a lot to think about.
The poet talks about nightmares about being burned, about being left behind for being a mere human. Because he knows that he is only a second in the infinite life of the people he loves, that he is nothing more than a thorn in the hearts of the people he considers his family. Because they will live long, wonderful lives and the memory of him will one day be erased from their minds, and sometimes it's okay, but other times it feels like it burns his soul to know that he means nothing to anyone.
He tells Radovid that he is so afraid that he will leave him too. Because he knows that he can be a lot and feel so much that he is used to being left aside, but he doesn't believe he can bear Radovid's rejection and he doesn't believe can bear to say goodbye to the prince he has fallen in love with like never before. He tells him how much loves him, how fervent his love is, but Radovid is a prince, the representation of the gods on earth, the man who has armies and subjects and men and women at his disposal; and he’s a simple bard, with scars from torture and a lute on his back. Jaskier opens up and talks out loud about how scared he was when he met him, because he always jokes about being heartbroken, like every good poet, but he never talks about the fear of not being enough again.
He talks about his resentment and envy of others. He was always the bard of comfort for everyone, always the shoulder to cry on and complain about, always the perfect man to put down and feel good about yourself. Jaskier, the man who always smiles. Jaskier, the man of a thousand words. Always the bard Dandelion.
He says that has no right to cry and complain about his pain, because there are elves out there who have lost their homes, their family, and their lives. Because just a few steps from him, there is a girl who lost her parents, her grandparents and her entire home in the flames. There is a sorceress who was sold by her father, who was undone and remade countless times. Because he has traveled with the man with the purest and noblest heart on the continent, that he has suffered for decades without complaint. Because there is a prince trapped in a viper's nest next to him. He has no right to cry because he is exhausted.
But sometimes it's so hard to stay smiling. Sometimes the curtain must be lowered, sometimes his lips also get tired of saying words of encouragement without any in return, his arms are also tired of holding and not being held, his heart sometimes gets tired of loving without being loved.
Sometimes he just wants to sleep and not wake up again.
Jaskier talks and talks and talks. But for the first time, he's not about the best color for his doublet, but instead he mutters about the insecurities he hides behind those colors. For the first time, Geralt doesn't tune out Jaskier's inane, meaningless chatter and actually listens, hears the tremor in his voice, smells the pain in the air, feels every sob rumbling in his chest. And he wonders how he never saw it, how he always took his friend for granted.
It seems that Jaskier's words are exhausted, because all that remains is a deafening silence and the aroma of salt from tears not shed for years.
“You are not alone, lark,” the prince murmurs, soft and determined. “You have me, Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer. We are your family. We are yours. And I'm sorry you feel that way, because it was never our intention to burden you with our burdens. Because we love you. You are the light of our lives, and the only reason we all have a family. Jaskier, you are my lark, my heart and my soul. I love you more than anything, Jaskier. You can always come to me to listen to you, to cry or simply to be by your side, the way you want me, all the time you want me.”
Jaskier sobs again and Geralt can imagine Radovid holding him tighter, closer, because it's something the witcher wants to do.
Geralt walks away silently with only the thoughts of him.
He returns to the bonfire that miraculously continues to burn, with no Yennefer and Ciri in sight.
Geralt sits in his place. He thinks about everything he has learned from the bard in 1 hour and has been missing for 24 years. He wonders how much of what he sees in Jaskier is him and not his mask. He questions why he never asked Jaskier how he is.
Then he hears footsteps coming out of the forest. He feels Yenn sit silently to the right of him and then Ciri to the left of him. Everyone heard, everyone felt their bard break.
No one says anything, as if the bard had taken away their words. He probably did it. So the three of them sit together until they decide to go to sleep, always in silence.
The next morning, the 3 find a note from Radovid saying that he and Jaskier will take some time together. That they will soon find them.
The witcher, the sorceress and the princess shed tears together and then wait anxiously for their bard. Their lark.

Modern Witcher AU: My Headcanons: (part 3 of ?)
Geralt smells of coffee, caramelized sugar, kerosine, and mineral oil. The sugary scent is from his favourite fragrance (Vanilla Woods—The 7 Virtues) and it mingles well with his natural body chemistry and environmental scents. It’s very subtle but distinct and it works shockingly well for him.
Jaskier is determined to figure out what fragrance Geralt wears but is looking in all the wrong places. He assumes some of the “masculine” notes from the environment that linger on his skin and clothes are a part of the perfume. It takes Geralt explicitly telling Jaskier to look in the feminine and/or the unisex sections (of fragrantica) for him to actually do so and finally get put on the right track.
Jaskier smells of lavender and chamomile. His hair also retains the smell of his shampoo exceedingly well so he always smells clean. He uses solid fragrance that’s reminiscent of “Chamomile and Lavender Milk Tea” by The Dua Brand. It has notes of honey and raw almond milk that gives it a good balancing effect and works well with his body chemistry.
Jaskiers extended family organizes regular family reunions at grossly lavish locations at least once a year. Most of his family besides his parents and a few cousins don’t know about his cross-country road trip… or Geralt. When Jaskier brings Geralt along one year to a reunion at a rented out ski chalet he wants to make sure Geralt makes a good impression. Little did he know, most of his family would adore him and think he is such a doll. Geralt had no less than two people at any given time chatting with him for the vast majority of the weekend. As an introvert, he was exhausted by the end of each day. Jaskier is secretly convinced his family loves Geralt more than him after just a few days; however, Jaskier is more than happy to show him off so it never really bothers him much.
Geralt has a stiff gait. It stems from extremely tense muscles in his hips and lower back as a result of so many hours on the road and not enough proper stretching. Jaskier makes it his personal goal to get Geralt into physiotherapy and at the very least, flexible enough to touch his toes comfortably again.
Geralt’s nausea inducing alcohol of choice is tequila. Eskel’s is flavoured vodka. Lambert loves to get a reaction out of them over it.
Geralt can't have tequila (especially margaritas) anymore because of the near-two day hangover he had after drinking with his brothers on New Years Eve one year. Not even the night he came of age could compare to the sheer amount he knocked back that night.
Eskel's grievance against (lemonade) vodka started after a night out at the bar in his early 20's. He doesn't remember how many times he threw up that night (and he doesn't really want to either).
Lambert can hold his alcohol well but gets hangovers extremely easy, unlike Geralt and Eskel who rarely get more than a headache that's readily manageable with a single ibuprofen capsule. Lambert started keeping a bucket under his bed for this exact reason. He doesn't have a gag-inducing alcohol because if he did, all options would be exhausted with the amount of times he has been ill after a night out.
Geralt’s personal vehicle is a baby blue rust bucket of a pickup truck. It’s a sturdy but rough looking 1990 Ford Ranger.
Eskel drives a grey 2013 VW Jetta that was not taken care of too well by it’s previous owner. It’s a secondhand shitbox but it’s his secondhand shitbox.
Lambert refuses to buy his own car and when he’s not working, he makes Vesemir or his brothers drive him places when he can’t/doesn’t want to catch the bus.
Eskel gets extremely bad caffeine withdrawal symptoms since he has a much lower tolerance and rate of consumption than Geralt, who has a worrying dependency. Geralt says he's fine, but his blood pressure says otherwise.

part 9
Jaskier greets Geralt with the brightest, warmest smile, the one smile that's reserved for Geralt only because it used to make him blush so lovely. Geralt doesn't blush now, but his eyes grow a bit wider, he sits up a bit straighter and Jaskier knows there's still hope left. It's still Geralt. Even after all this time it's Geralt.
"You're Geralt of Rivia, right? Your reputation kind of precedes you." Before his eyebrows can even fully knit together in a frown, Jaskier is already talking again. "Would you like to play Gwent? I heard you're always up for a game," he laughs and his heart flutters a bit when he notices Geralt visibly relax back into his seat. "Sure, have a seat," is the calm and collected answer he recieves, but the bard can see the tiniest hint of a smile in the corner of Geralt's lips as the witcher reaches for his pack.
"I'd like to apologize in advance," Jaskier grins sheepishly as he pulls out his own deck and sits down, "I hardly have any good cards so it might be a quick game, but I was told I'm a decent player."
Geralt huffs out a breath that would have been a chuckle if he wasn't in a tavern full of strangers, sitting across from a man he has never met before. Which reminds him- "The name's Jaskier, by the way. It's lovely to finally get to meet you." Geralt raises an eyebrow and places a card. Jaskier frowns and wishes for his future deck of cards, the one Geralt helped him to collect until it was perfect. The two of them spent countless nights across from each other, playing Gwent again and again until they had to get new decks because they knew each other's strategies too well.
"Most people wouldn't agree with you," the witcher says and Jaskier scoffs at him without thinking too much about it. "Most people are stupid." Geralt stills for a moment and Jaskier can feel golden eyes piercing him, but he can't seem to mind. He does make a face though, before placing his cards, because there's absolutely no way he will win this game and what on earth is he going to do after that? Before having raised Ciri, Geralt was hardly known for his patience towards strangers and well-
"You're correct," Geralt says as Jaskier loses with his next move,

The Witcher Headcanon - Signing
Geralt is the only Witcher at Kaer Morhen who knows Handspeak. It's something he learned years ago from a deaf clergy member while he was staying at the Temple of Melitele after being seriously injured during a hunt.
He never mentioned it to his brothers because, well, he didn't really feel like it was that important
The only signs a Witcher needed to know were the handful they used to fight.
Geralt is floored one evening when he and Jaskier are camping.
Geralt is tired, and the bard is annoying him so much he just doesn't even want to 'Hmm' at him, so he just casually signs "shut up" as he turns away.
He spins back around, stunned when Jaskier laughs and says "Really, Geralt, "shut up"? I would think f**k off (makes two signs, one of which Geralt doesn't know) would be more your style!"
Hmm...?
My Gran-Gran is as deaf as a post, so she taught me.
Geralt was silent a moment before hesitantly rumbling "Show me 'f**k off' again...
Jaskier very eagerly starts teaching Geralt the extensive library of slang words, swears, and profanity that his Gran-Gran taught him.
Geralt is thrilled the bard knows Handspeak as well. It gives them the advantage of being able to communicate when speaking is not possible or ideal
Plus, they can talk s**t about people when ever they want, even with the person standing right beside them.
Things get really fun that winter at Kaer Morhen.
Geralt now has someone to share all his commentary with on his brothers' various conversations that he normally would just keep to himself.
It would confuse the other Witchers when Geralt or Jaskier would suddenly make a few gestures, and the other would make a gesture back.
They didn't do it too often, not really wanting them to catch on and start asking questions. They didn't want to have to share the secret.
The other Witchers didn't really think too much about it, because
1. Geralt had always been the weirdo of the pack, and it looked like he now had another wierdo to hang out with. Good, let the weird kids entertain eachother
And 2. None of it seemed directed at them.
Jaskier finally, finally saw Geralt really laugh for the first time ever one evening. And it had been magical!
Lambert was on his third bottle of White Gull, and had been picking on the bard most of the night. Eskel's warnings to leave Songbird alone had gone unheeded, and so had Geralt's warning growl.
Lambert then said something degrading about Jaskier's songwriting skills.
That was when Jaskier leaned towards Lambert and said "What would you even know about composition? Can you even read, you stupid..." he then held up his right hand, with middle finger and thumb extended, and aggressivley tapped his thumb against his chin.
Lambert and the other Witchers blinked, dumbfounded while Geralt spat out his drink and proceeded to lose his sh*t.
Geralt's brothers just stared at him, having never seen him laugh so hard.
Lambert knew it was some kind of insult involving the 'f' word, but the extended thumb being tapped against the chin confused him.
Lambert *look of anger and confusion*
Geralt *WHEEZING*
From then on, Jaskier would sign it at Lambert whenever the Witcher started being too much of an a**hole, or when Jaskier just felt like being Mr. Petty Crocker. And it drove Lambert crazy because he couldn't figure out what it meant.
Jaskier kept him guessing by signing other insults at him.
Geralt finally had to ask him to stop after he saw him sign 'sheep f**ker'. Geralt was barely able to stop laughing in time to stop Lambert from gutting the feisty bard.
As much fun as it was to see the rage and confusion on Lambert's face, Yen would have killed him if anything happened to Jaskier.

Obsessed with the idea of Extraordinary Things being a back and forth between Jaskier and Radovid, with Jaskier trying to draw him out in the first verse, and Radovid finally answering him in the second.
Cause like, with Radovid, Jaskier meets someone who he can't fully read properly. He knows there's something under the front of a drunken, bumbling prince, but he doesn't know him well enough yet to be certain as to what.
So, he tests the waters a bit. throws out a line to see if Radovid will take it—and he does. A little bit. But it's so interesting to me, because it doesn't just feel like Jaskier is trying to nail down Radovid's truth in this verse; it feels like he's injecting elements of his own mask into it, as well.
"Keep your words on ice, your gaze lights the fire. They say 'keep on playing nice,' but I have no desire. Why waste our words when lips were made for extraordinary things? It's not a want, it's a need, it is paying no heed to what others say to sing."
This is Jaskier's read of Radovid as he knows him so far: a man hiding more complex wants beneath the veneer of a drunken party boy. But it's also Jaskier admitting that he knows this about Radovid because he wears the exact same mask himself.
Much like how Jaskier and Ciri speak through Geralt and Yennefer in order to process their own feelings about them later in the season, Jaskier sings through himself in order to comprehend who Radovid is. Jaskier is using the performative persona he's crafted for himself in an attempt to coax Radovid out of his.
All of it leads into the main intention of this song: "The greatest songs are made up of unspoken words of love. Of them, I've had enough. with you, I am enough." I am tired of having to put up a front. I want to be understood. I think you understand me. Prove me right.
And Radovid sees what Jaskier is doing. He comments on Jaskier's ability to see people for who they are and not who they pretend to be. But there's still more he wants to understand. This still feels like a game, in a way.
It's only after Radovid sees the brutality of Dijkstra and Philippa up close, watches them orchestrate the assassination of the queen and threaten to incriminate him if he doesn't fall in line, that he then grasps the vulnerability in Jaskier's lyrics. Jaskier is also caught between multiple conflicting desires, that of his loyalty to Geralt/Yen/Ciri, and that of his work as the Sandpiper & how said work is backed by his continued commitment to Redanian Intelligence. That internal conflict and the desire to escape it is also highlighted in the song's first verse ("they say keep on playing nice, but i have no desire"). Only after all of this, when true fear begins to take over and the game stops being fun, does Radovid truly begin to truly understand Jaskier.
And so, he seeks him out. And he responds.
“Drop the sweet disguise, your heart’s beating too loud. The fairytales and little lies can’t drown out all the sound.” You were right. I do understand you. I know what you really want, because we're the same. You can’t hide it behind a façade of a song and a story and a persona.
“Take this heart and break this heart for extraordinary things.” I don't know what will become of this, or us. I still don't fully know if we can trust each other. But no one has ever seen me in the way that you have.
It's not a want, it's a need. With you, I am enough.
#angel.txt#the witcher#jaskier#radovid#radskier#meta & theories#angel.doc#twn spoilers#i never wrote my wpb meta so have some extraordinary things meta instead shdfdfddfd#i truly think that first verse is so complex and multi-layered and can be read in multiple ways (both in-universe and externally)#like this is what i meant by 4d chess like how the FUCK can i explain what jaskier's doing in that first verse#its also little things. the background vocals that pick up in the second verse.#the way the second verse is omitted from the diegetic performance of the song which could imply jaskier hadn’t written it at the time#the way that we hear this song over the credits only after they get together in ep 4 and it's an extended version BUT#the extended version is entirely instrumental after the first half ends which also imply that the second half hasn't yet been written#as a whole i think that a lot of twn songs can be read through both internal and external lenses to enhance their existence in the narrativ#the fact that some of them have different names in-universe as opposed to on the ost. the choices they make in diegetic song placement.#im not very inclined in musical terminology but my brain is going insane over what this show does with its songs and how joey himself write#(and tbh i like to think of the sountrack/ost versions of songs as smth separate or alternate from the ones seen directly In the episodes)#idk. just very much intrigued with the idea of this song as a conversation#the entire song being an illustration of the masks they both wear#the truth that lies beneath them‚ and the way they both try to chip at each other until one of them drops it first.#obsessed with certain choices and going a little too insane about them <3

"Geralt?"
"Hm."
"Do you think we'll last?"
The question startles him, what feels like a thousand thoughts suddenly flying through his mind.
He doesn't understand. He doesn't. They've barely been together a year, and sure, sometimes things get too intense and too much and quite suffocating, but it's all worth it. It's so, so worth it, because as terrifying as this relationship can get, more than anything, it's liberating.
It's almost sickening being this in love, being this loved, and Geralt not used to sickness, but this is one he wouldn't trade for anything else.
Jaskier has done well in telling, and showing, Geralt that he feels the same.
So he doesn't understand what prompted this, he doesn't understand what he could have possibly done, what could have made Jaskier even begin to doubt for a moment that---
"Geralt," Jaskier says, sharper this time. Geralt turns his body around until he's face to face with his bard. Jaskier doesn't look upset, or angry, or even moderately unsettled. He just looks... curious.
"Should I be worried that it's taking you so long to answer a simple question?" The bard teases.
Geralt scoffs. "As if anything with you has ever been simple."
Jaskier laughs and Geralt realizes his statement was untrue.
Things with Jaskier are almost too simple, so much so that Geralt can't help constantly waiting for the other shoe to drop. He isn't destructive about it, not anymore, but the anxiety lives on because things with Jaskier are simple in a way that simply doesn't feel real.
Geralt's life has always been so far from simple that it's genuinely laughable, because holy shit, who else does any of this happen to?
But Jaskier. Jaskier is so simple it's as jarring as it is leveling, and the only times things have ever been complicated between them was because Geralt made them that way.
Things with Jaskier are simple.
Jaskier loves him. He loves Jaskier.
They're in love. They do the things they do because they love each other, and it's so simple because there's never any doubt about how much they love each other.
Once Geralt accepted it, and embraced it, his mind finally quieted, and his body finally rested.
"I don't know," he says, honestly because he doesn't, because he could never think to lie to Jaskier again as he did back on that mountain. "But I can't remember a time when I didn't love you, and I think that means something."
Jaskier smiles at him, then. It's a small, private one, only reserved for Geralt, and that thought makes his heart leap.
His bard reaches out and brushes the pad of his thumb across Geralt's brows, down the side of his face, over his lips.
"I think so, too."

so far this was a really ship-heavy season I normally am not a shipper with this show but boy did this season change that
My top 5 ships of season 3 of the Witcher
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. This is a bit of a crack ship since Lambert isn’t coming back in the show, but who wouldn’t love two catty snarky and sexy redheads? I like to think these two find each other in this universe as well
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Triss and Istredd: had a ton of chemistry from the moment they were in the library together, loved seeing them work together I'm a fan of the " the other people in the love triangle get together" trope also I love that they are both rocking the 80s look
Tumblr media
3. Vespula and Jaskier: I love that they included her character and the love/ hate relationship they have and that they showed Jask being a slut instead of just stating it, that whole scene with them together took me out
Tumblr media
2. radskier : Joey and Hugh have so much chemistry in the few scenes we got,  Radovid being the one person to see through Jaskiers facade and see him for who he really is, Jaskier not wanting to fall for him but doesn't wait to figure out what the prince is actually up to, if anything, the potential for angst in vol 2, I was skeptical about this but they did it so well, but its not the most shocking ship related thing in season 3.... for me
Tumblr media
Yenralt: wow I didn't think it was possible, after Man of Steel, BvS, and two seasons of The Witcher I didn't think it was possible for Cavil to have any chemistry with his on-screen love interests, but I was wrong seeing them finally choose to be open and tender with one another after all that happened was sooo satisfying, episode 5 managed to do something for me that even the games couldn't do, make me a Yenralt shipper, the recreation of the scenes from the book at the ball were chefs kiss, I also liked that they chose to show tender intimate moments of them in bed and in the bath rather than just a sex scene for fanservice, I love them together and now I'm sad thinking about part 2

Would you care to dance, my dear?
Pairing: Jaskier x female reader
Summary: Jaskier has been invited to perform at a ball and has convinced the reader to attend with him, but she is uncomfortable - that is, until she sneaks into the garden for some air and Jaskier notices and joins her.
Words: 2.6K
Warnings: lots of fluff, reader implied to be female, close friends to lovers, lots of hugs and singing from the bard, mutual pining, reader has a lot of thoughts at the start but I promise there is heaps of soft bard fluff after!
A/n: So I was thinking about the lack of Jaskier fics with a demisexual reader, and came up with this. It certainly doesn't have to be read that way, but it was in the back of my mind when I was writing. The song lyrics are from Fair by The Amazing Devil, it's a beautiful song you should all go listen to. As always it's unedited, so apologies for errors. Hope you enjoy!
You hunched slightly in your seat as your surroundings continued to encroach on you. Loud chatter and laughter, the clinking of glasses, expensive shoes tapping against tiles, figures brushing past you on their way to the ballroom floor.
No one had asked you to dance yet, thank the gods. You were sure it had something to do with your miserable expression and the men's pants and doublet you wore, in stark contrast to the elaborate gowns and hairstyles of the other women in the room.
The night was only made more tolerable, of course, by your companion, Jaskier. An excellent bard, and your best friend, he'd asked you to accompany him to the party at which he'd been invited to perform. You were reluctant at first, preferring the quiet comfort of a tavern or a night under the stars, but he'd seemed so disappointed by your initial refusal, staring at you with those sad blue eyes until you finally caved. The clothing was another issue, as you owned nothing formal, hated dresses in fact, but he gladly lent you one of his simpler outfits, insisting you'd look wonderful in anything. You'd scoffed at his words, but were appreciative of his consideration for your comfort.
He danced about the room, strumming a playful tune on his lute, grinning from ear to ear as he winked at various party goers. You rolled your eyes, unable to help a smirk as you watched. Ever the performer, it wasn't only his music, but his whole manner that served to entertain the guests. He always looked beautiful in this setting, radiating happiness, thoroughly in his element. His blue doublet was open, the low cut shirt beneath revealing a smattering of hair on his chest, which heaved as he sung. His boyish fringe was swept across his face, which seemed almost sculpted, the golden glow of the many candles in the room accentuating his delicate features. Then there were his eyes. You loved his eyes, a mesmerising blue, always seeming to convey such an unbelievable level of meaning and emotion, drawing you in the longer you looked.
Noticing you staring his way, he gladly returned the smile you didn't realise you'd given him, his eyes seeming to light up even more upon meeting yours. You gave him an encouraging nod, and he grinned, launching into another song. At least he wouldn't feel guilty for dragging you along if you pretended to be enjoying yourself.
As the night dragged on, you found it harder to maintain your false appearance of positivity. You fiddled with the undoubtedly expensive food on your plate, unsure exactly of what it was and unwilling to find out. You had rejected a couple of young men who'd offered you dances, finding yourself as completely uninterested as usual, instead mumbling apologies and excuses about a sore leg. As the guests became louder, drunker, rowdier, you finally stood abruptly, in dire need of fresh air. You threw a final glance in the direction of the bard, who was currently preoccupied with entertaining a gaggle of young women with what was most likely some dramatic tale of dreamy lovers. He shouldn't notice if you stepped outside for a few minutes. Taking a deep breath, you wove your way towards the large double doors leading to the gardens beyond.
***
Taking deep breaths of fresh air, you wandered between rows of brightly coloured flowers, running your fingers through the petals as their sweet scents brushed across your nose. You manoeuvred between carefully trimmed hedges until you reached a low marbled bench, placed before an intricately carved fountain with mythical figures intertwined beneath the rippling water. Sitting down with a sigh, you ran your fingers through your messy hair, a nervous habit you'd never quite managed to shake. You didn't know why you were so averse to these kinds of gatherings. The people? The clothes? The food? Maybe it was just the atmosphere, the fake smiles, the superficial laughter, the whispered barbs whenever someone turned their back.
Or maybe you were just paranoid. Maybe all these people really were enjoying themselves. Maybe you should be too - you were, after all, invited as a guest, arriving with your dearest friend, a man for who many here would give a great deal in order to take your place at his side. Many of the women he'd thrown nonchalant winks and smiles at tonight would be jealous of a relationship which doesn't actually exist, like many others who'd assumed the pair of you to be lovers simply by observing your innate closeness. You'd never understand the way all those women could so quickly fall for him, for anyone, really. He'd often encouraged it, of course - less so now, you'd noticed, but certainly when you'd first met. He seemed to fall in love with everyone, and they always seemed immediately infatuated with him in return. While his reputation wasn't as extensive as he'd have people believe, he had a reputation nonetheless. Still, it was something you hadn't even considered when you'd first met, and Jaskier seemed just as glad of your friendship as he would have been had you sought something more.
Of course, you'd be lying if you said you hadn't grown to find him quite attractive, beautiful in spirit and appearance, with a kind, empathetic soul. You found your thoughts drifting, lulled into a daze by the soft trickle of water from the fountain and the distant chirping of night insects. You really loved him, that much you knew. He was your constant companion, your closest friend, your bard. But recently you couldn't help but find yourself wondering if he could be... not something more, that implied your friendship was of far less significance than it was, but... something different. Why now? You'd been friends for years. Why couldn't you have had these feelings and acted on them from the start? Or why couldn't they have just stayed away completely? You groaned, frustrated with your own thoughts, placing your head in your hands.
"Are you alright?"
You turned at the voice, which was deep, melodic, instantly recognisable, and laced with concern.
Jaskier stood uncertainly behind you, absentmindedly fiddling with the strap of his lute, pouting thoughtfully as he awaited your response.
"Oh I'm... I'm fine, Jask. Sorry, I didn't mean to distract you from your performance-"
"You've nothing to be sorry about, my dear," he insisted, moving to take a seat at your side, resting his lute carefully on the bench beside him. You sat in silence for a moment, the soft sounds of the night filling the air, before he spoke again.
"If anyone should be sorry, it's me. I know you hate these sorts of things, I..." He looked down, tugging at the frilly cuffs of his shirt. "It was selfish of me to drag you along."
"Don't be ridiculous, Jask. I agreed to come, didn't I? I liked the idea of spending the night with you," you felt your face redden at the poor choice of words, but chose to stumble forwards over your mistake, "I- it's a nice evening, and..." you reached down beside you, grasping one of his hands in your own. "... And I really am glad to be here with you."
He met your eyes as the corner of his mouth quirked up in a cheeky smile that slowly spread across his entire face. It was infectious, and you quickly found yourself beaming back.
"I'm happy to hear it, dear heart," he said, before shuffling closer, leaning in to rest his head on your shoulder. His fluffy hair, which shone a golden brown in the moonlight, brushed against your neck and chin, making you laugh as he squirmed about, trying to find a comfortable position.
"Are you going to wriggle around like that all night?" You teased. "Don't you have a performance you need to get back to?"
"Everything I need is right here," he murmured against your neck, voice far more gravelly than you'd expected, his hot breath sending goosebumps across your skin. That was... That was new. You hesitated a second, before leaning back against him, the warmth of his partially exposed chest pressing into your shoulder as you rested your head against his.
"Can we just... Stay like this a while?" He breathed, eyes fluttering shut.
"Of course," you murmured back, closing your own eyes.
You enjoyed each other's silent company and the warmth of your bodies pressed together as the moon crept higher in the sky. Absentmindedly, you fiddled with his fingers, lacing them between your own. Reaching up with your other hand, you ran your fingers through his hair, drawing what sounded almost like a low moan from the bard, which was quickly interrupted by a cough as he stood abruptly.
"What's wrong?" You asked, staring up at him, causing your breath to hitch in your throat. Gods, you didn't know how he could have looked any more beautiful than before, but he did. The night cast shadows across his pale skin, accentuating his delicately sculpted features with a soft blue glow. His eyes seemed to burn with energy as they stared back into your own, and you noticed a deep red glowing through parts of his ruffled hair in the light of the moon. His doublet was crumpled from where he'd leant against you, and the low cut shirt beneath was pulled far to one side, revealing a teasingly large amount of his chest. You forced yourself to tear your eyes away as he responded.
"Oh, it's... It's nothing. I... Do you... That is..." He stopped for a second, composing himself, before his face lit up, seeming to have thought of something. An embarrassed smile broke through his features as he walked up to you, placing one hand behind his back and outstretching the other towards you.
"Would you care to dance, my dear?"
Heart pounding in your chest, you smiled, before reaching up to take his hand.
"I- I would love to, my sweet bard."
He let out a nervous laugh of relief at your response, stepping back as you rose from your seat, eyes locked on each other. His fingers, calloused from years of music, tenderly grasped your own, before his hands slid down your sides to find purchase at your waist, while you placed your arms either side of his head. You held your breath, the contact making you shiver, your heart fluttering in your chest.
What is wrong with me? It's not like this is the first time we've been this close. We've shared a horse, a bed, even danced together a couple of times at village fairs. Why should this be any different?
Too preoccupied with his own thoughts to notice your lack of composure, Jaskier confidently led you around the small patch of ground hidden between hedges, your own natural dance floor, with the sighing wind, bubbling water and singing crickets providing the music. He absentmindedly bit his lip as his mind swirled, heart thumping just as fast as yours.
Why am I doing this? Of course we're close, we always have been, but this is different and I know it. I'm an idiot, a hopeful idiot. She's never been interested in me, and, as much as it wounds me, I promised myself to never let my feelings get in the way of our friendship. Promised to never tell her just how deeply in love with her I am.
Jaskier pushed his troubled thoughts aside. He wanted to enjoy this moment, and wanted you to as well. Besides, maybe he could find out, once and for all, how you truly felt about him. Or at least, ease his aching heart by finally revealing his own feelings, regardless of your response.
Taking a deep breath, steadying his trembling body, he slowly leant towards you, until his lips barely brushed your ear. A pleasant warmth shot through your stomach at his unexpected touch, and you closed your eyes with a hum of contentment, welcoming his body as your arms pulled him closer.
Softly, he began to sing as the pair of you continued to sway in the moonlight, words raw and full of pure, unbridled emotion as he murmured them into your ear.
"It's what my heart just yearns to say, in ways that can't be said..."
You tightened your grip, clinging to him in silent awe as he continued the song, each new lyric causing heat to rise to your skin in the cool night air.
"Oh, how, oh, how unreasonably in love I am with everything you do, I'll spend my days so close to you, 'cause if I'm standing here, maybe everyone will think I'm alright."
You'd stopped moving now, not daring to pull away, confused by the tide of emotions flooding your mind. What was this song? You'd never heard it before, but it seemed to come straight from the heart. Was it possible...
"It's not fair, it's not fair how much I love you"
At these words, something clicked. You kicked yourself for not realising sooner. How could you be so blind? Forget your own emotions, you knew you hadn't always been in love with Jaskier. But him? He'd been infatuated with you from the start. Yet he'd kept quiet about his feelings, until he knew they were reciprocated. Your poor, kind, beautiful bard.
You closed what little distance was left between you two, burying your head into his chest. His voice trailed off as he gently slid his hands further around your waist, returning the embrace. He gave a deep sigh, hugging you as though he never wanted to let you go, nestling his head against your neck.
Eventually, you felt his lips brush your jaw as you pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, shining eyes filled with adoration, an expression of deep satisfaction resting on his face.
"That was... That was..." He breathed, fingers gently trailing across your back.
"It was beautiful," you finished, fingers twirling the fluffy brown curls at the back of his neck.
"I'm glad you liked it," he said softly, a half smile pulling at the corner of his mouth, as his eyes flitted across your features, eventually dropping to your lips.
"This feels too good to be true..." He mumbled, closing his eyes as he gently brought his lips forward to brush yours.
"Yet here we are," you whispered against his mouth, before finally pressing your lips into his own with a sigh.
He kissed you carefully, deliberately, the heat of your bodies pressed so close together serving only to fuel the motion. You slid your hands up the back of his shirt and he moaned into your mouth, sending another wave of warmth through your body. You allowed him to deepen the kiss, his tongue lapping and darting into your mouth as he made a series of small, pleasured noises, whimpering and gasping as you continued playing with his hair.
When you finally seperated, you were both breathing heavily, hearts pounding. Jaskier's appearance made you weak, as you examined his lust darkened eyes, the soft blush creeping across his cheeks, and his puffy, crimson lips. He looked so ruffled, like a startled baby animal, that you couldn't help but giggle. You moved to rest your forehead against him, his eyelashes briefly kissing your cheek as he moved to wrap his arms around your waist.
"I love you, Jaskier," you said, running your thumb across his cheek, causing him to hum softly at the touch. You hesitated, grinning, before adding, "thanks for waiting for me."
"Of course, dear heart," he said, cheeky smile once again tugging at the corner of his mouth, before adding more seriously, "You're more important to me than you could ever know."
"I think I have some idea," you smirked, grabbing him by his shirt collar and pulling his lips into your smile.

I wanted to talk about Extraordinary Things and the Geraskier and Radskier elements in the song.
Forgive me if this has been done or is rather obvious. This is just me musing over the lyrics.
Keep your words on ice
Your gaze lights the fire
How many campfires did this happen? Jaskier doing his best to drag even a few words from Geralt while the witcher glares at the fire as if his eyes are stoking the flame.
But eyes of fire really speak of Radovid, too. He may speak more than Geralt did when Jaskier first met him, but there's a lot he doesn't say in words that he says in his eyes.
They say, "Keep on playing nice"
But I have no desire
Jaskier cannot be contained. It's why I love him. He will not be forced into a box. He contains multitudes.
But these lines speak of struggle. Jaskier could be at court if he wanted to, he's a viscount, but he has no desire to be that person. He needs the freedom of the wild.
And the two people that represent this struggle are Radovid (a life at court) and Geralt (freedom/out in the wild). It's kinda obvious who Jaskier is going to choose even without considering what Joey said in interviews (that Jaskier will have a choice, but it isn't a choice for him, he will always choose his found family).
Jaskier has no desire to stay at court, even for love.
Why waste our words
When lips were made for extraordinary things
Jaskier can talk. He can express himself in his songs and with words. But there's some things that can only be truly communicated through a kiss.
And let's face it, Jaskier has waited so long to communicate his feelings for Geralt. He wouldn't waste words any longer, he'd want to show his feelings.
It also links to the later lyrics of unspoken words between them.
With Radovid, there isn't any need to talk because it becomes clear how he feels about Jaskier through singing his song.
But also there is so much they cannot discuss because Jaskier needs to protect his found family.
Kissing Radovid is safer. Jaskier can communicate his feelings that way and can feel Radovid's feelings for him in deeds, not words.
It's not a want, it's a need
It is paying no heed to what others say to sing
Jaskier has never paid any heed to what others said of his songs or singing. But that is also a mask to protect himself.
Geralt told him not to write any songs about him. Jaskier did it anyway.
There's probably others who have told Jaskier not to write songs about them or Geralt that I've forgotten.
But "it's not a want, it's a need" is just so evocative of his heart the love he gives freely, and of him letting his creativity flow through him.
That creativity is something Radovid greatly admires. And I think Radovid also wants to play no heed to what others want him to do; he just isn't as free as Jaskier (the pretty songbird).
Ultimately, what Jaskier really wants is for someone to see him, like he sees others, and for that person to still have a visceral want for him once seeing him.
People have wanted him, his body, his time, his usefulness. Loved ones have finally accepted him as a friend and family member. No one yet has wanted all of him, the magnitudes he contains, the bad parts and the good, the real him. Mainly because he's never had someone pierce his armour.
And if Radovid is using Jaskier I swear to the gods I will rain merry hell on him.
The greatest songs are made up of unspoken words of love
Of them I have had enough
All of Jaskier’s songs contain some element of his love for Geralt. He is his muse, after all.
We all know Her Sweet Kiss and Burn, Butcher, Burn contain it most obviously.
And it's interesting here that we get Jaskier saying he's had enough of writing his love for Geralt. There's only so much you can continue to pour out and not get anything back.
And so, Jaskier has decided that his love for Geralt is platonic as a way to protect himself. If he's not wanting, he can't be hurt.
But we all know when Jaskier said that his love for Geralt is platonic, that it is a lie he is telling himself. Vespula wasn't fooled.
But it's interesting that we clearly see Jaskier longing for the real love he craves in these lyrics. And I don't want to take away the amazing aromatic headcanon for Jaskier or Geraskier having a queen platonic relationship, but there is a longing that is unfulfilled, whatever way you interpret that to be.
That longing can be fulfilled with Radovid.
With you, I have enough
With you, I am enough
I am enough
Again, I see Jaskier saying he is enough with Geralt just to be his friend. After all his years struggling to be his friend and also wanting more, it's interesting to see this friendship now settled as soon as Jaskier stops seeking more.
And a big part of that change between them has to be down to Geralt becoming a father and learning to open his heart to caring about those around him.
But with Radovid, Jaskier gets to be vulnerable, properly vulnerable with his heart. He does feel enough in Radovid's eyes, and that is truly for the first time.
Vespula knows Jaskier, but he doesn't let himself be truly vulnerable with his heart there. He lies about his feelings for Geralt to her (and himself). He gives his body, but does he give his heart? I would say no. They are close in many ways, but not emotionally, not in vulnerability.
Drop the sweet disguise
Your heart's beating too loud
The fairy tales and little lies can't drown out all the sound
We all know about Geralt's disguise: that witchers don't need no one or that they don't have feelings. In S3, we see this façade lift. Geralt shows his true self to Ciri as her father, Jaskier as his friend, and Yennefer as a partner when he forgives her.
Radovid wears a disguise. He's the drunk fool to those who cannot see it. But Jaskier can, because Jaskier also wears a disguise, something Joey commented on in at least one interview.
And I feel like this disguise is definitely shown on screen when Jaskier is with Vespula. He has feelings for her, obviously strong ones, but they aren't the same as his feelings for Geralt or Radovid.
He definitely tells Vespula more than he tells his other lovers. But Vespula isn't looking for Jaskier to be "the only one" for her. She is still pretty switched on about Jaskier’s heart.
So take this heart
And break this heart
For extraordinary things
Geralt has broken Jaskier's heart already. And now Jaskier seems to be settled into the role of friend with his "platonic" love.
And Geralt is an extraordinary thing to Jaskier. Nothing will take that away, not even heartbreak.
But the thing is, Jaskier isn't ready to give his heart truly to Geralt completely. In pieces, yes. The clear barrier of "He's my friend, that's it" has been set (for now).
But with Radovid we see Jaskier let go of his mask, drop down his armour and allow Radovid in. It could very well break his heart, but that won't stop him from loving Radovid.
He has become an extraordinary thing to Jaskier.
For all the years we have watched Jaskier longing, to finally see him with someone is amazing. I don't want his heart broken, but I know we have to accept that it's going to happen.
And here, for the first time since The Mountain, we have Jaskier willing to have it broken again.
Because without taking a chance on being fulfilled and happy, what are we?
Thanks for reading.

Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love 💖
Hello love, thank you so much for sending this!!
First up is a story I wrote not too long ago "Mercy Mercy Please (The Monster in Me)" which is a Theo x Liam Teen Wolf fic that is an enemies to hate fuckers to lovers story with 20k words of dirty, nasty, kinky dub-con hate fucking lol I love this one so much because I haven't written this dynamic before and these two are just PERFECT for it.
Next up is "Prussian Blue" which is a Clark x Bruce superbat story in which Bruce gets irradiated to lethal levels and Clark frantically tries to find a way to stop him from dying, while also being forced to confront the depths of his feelings for Bruce. I love this one because it's angsty (big surprise LOL), but also because of the relationships I built between Clark and Alfred, and Clark and Bruce--I think they're well characterized and engaging. Plus I did a SHIT TON of research into the acute effects of radiation sickness and the treatments for it, which is where the title comes from--Prussian Blue is a pretty standard treatment for radiation poisoning!
My next one I'll talk about is hands down my favorite thing I've written in the last few years because it's so unbearably tender. "Ribs Cracked Open, A Home Made Within" is a Geralt x Jaskier story that came about because I had this idea that with his extra mutagens, Geralt would probably be hypersensitive to the point of pain, and wondered what that would look like within canon. I also really wanted Geralt to be handled with care and affection and tenderness because we never really see that in canon, and when someone is so hurt by the world and so self loathing, I desperately crave stories where they get to be treated tenderly.
Next is "Handful of Aces, Pocketful of Nines" which is a Holden x Bill Mindhunter story that came about after a rewatch while I was high and had my brain go galaxy mode and see them as a ship 😂This story follows canon and is filled to the brim with yearning, internalized homophobia, and so much angst it'll break your heart! I love this one because it's got so many tropes that I adore, and I think is a very compelling story of two people who don't know how to love each other, but also don't know how not to love each other.
Finally, is "Unbroken" which I consider to be my Steve x Tony magnum opus lol This story is my baby--I spent two years writing it, during which time I was in grad school, working full time, doing an internship and trying to get homework done. It's angsty and full of pining, hurt/comfort, whump, and all the other tasty tropes that I adore. It's a complicated story about a complicated relationship--Steve is found in the ice during Tony's childhood and comes to live with the Starks where he serves as a friend and protector for Tony. Tony loves him, and when life intervenes, they're married to protect Tony from being given to Obie--but that doesn't mean things get any easier. I do honestly think that this is the best thing for stony that I ever have and ever will write, and I hope more folks give it a shot despite that underage tag lol

"I love you."
The words leave Radovid's lips almost instinctively as they part from their kiss, but instead of regret, there is resolve in his eyes as he looks up into Jaskier's. The bard's own eyes widen at the sincerity, at the lack of fear, and at the insecurity that bubbles inside his chest.
It wouldn't be the first time that he lies to a lover, that he falsely returns those words to keep his lover's feelings safe in ignorant bliss, but this time Jaskier doesn't want to lie. It catches him off guard, but he doesn't blurt out the words just to make Radovid happy. He can't. He can't hurt him.
The moment lingers for too long and Radovid gives him a breathy chuckle as he turns his head down, clearly hurt and disappointed, but seemingly not discouraged from holding Jaskier.
"You know, it's alright if you don't. I prefer that you don't, if you don't feel the same. I just wanted to say it. Get it off my chest." The prince explains, with a kind, sweet smile that Jaskier knows to be sincere, even if it's also there to hide his hurt.
"I'm sorry..." Jaskier mutters, his eyes a bit glassy with emotion. Ironic that he's the one fighting back tears, but Radovid knows his reasons, and he leans in to kiss his forehead. This only causes Jaskier to break further, and lean into Radovid's arms to hold him tightly, then pull back to hold his face between his hands.
"I do care for you. Deeply. More than I've..." He cuts himself off, and shakes his head with an awkward laugh. "You'd think a poet would have better words for a moment like this." He continues self consciously, and Radovid laughs adoringly, shaking his head.
"I like this better. I like to know I take your wits away." He smirks, and Jaskier frowns with a smile, closing his eyes.
"I will tell you one day." He promises as he looks back up at him, staring into those terrifyingly loving eyes. "And you'll know for a fact that it's not a lie." Radovid only smiles and leans in to kiss Jaskier's lips softly. As they part, he brushes a strand of hair out of Jaskier's cheek and caresses his brow, while Jaskier can only close his eyes to feel it better.
"Lucky for you I'm a patient man. And not terribly jealous." At that, Jaskier's eyes bolt open and he looks at him with worry.
"It's not because of him." Jaskier explains hastily. "Well— Not like you think." There's a bit of a blush on Jaskier's cheeks as he speaks, and it seems to be enough to break a bit of tension that had built from Radovid's part. "I... I felt an unrequited, unwanted, unwilling love for most of my life. I got used to having lovers on the side to water it down, but it never really went away..."
"And now..?" Radovid asks, playing with an air of confidence that Jaskier knows is there to hide the fear underneath.
"It changed. My love is now that of a very old friend, but my heart... Is scared to open so readily again. I fear I don't even know how to love anymore."
Radovid pulls Jaskier down into a sweet hug, and the bard whimpers and holds him back tightly, hiding his face in the crook of his neck. "Then it's alright. I don't think anyone knows how to love. Let alone a drunk, messy prince like myself. That you're worried about giving me the right type of love speaks better about you than it does me." The prince jokes, and Jaskier finally smiles.
"I will say it one day. Soon. And you will swoon off your feet, I promise."
Radovid grins, and pulls Jaskier closer still. "Good."
