This is my protocol bingo! (Thank you as always osric.com).
Lena is just doing her evil job - No thoughts, no morals, no alligence. Girlboss.
Nobody ever finds out Jmart's real names - I just think that would be tragic, and fit in with what RQ have been saying about this not being too attached to Archives.
Redemption arc - There was a notable lack of these in Archives even though forgiveness and making a conscious effort to behave morally were important themes in the later seasons. I'm ready for Mr Bonzo to have Kylo Ren's exact redemption arc where he's redeemed mostly through kissing. I don't even care who he kisses.
Froyo trip - It's pretty clear that we're being told that this is Somewhere Else through things like the Archives staff having tea and the OIAR staff having coffee. The s1 Archives gang iconically got icecream, so I'm gunning for a froyo trip, and a Gwen monologue about preservatives.
Colin dies first - He's just so killable. Plus, Celia can't die until they do her reveal and they'll probably want to build up to it, Sam can't die because he's the driving force behind investigation into Magnus, Alice can't die because she kinda makes the whole show, Gwen can't die because she's mid-arc and it is of the type that if left unfinished it would be anticlimactic not tragic, and Lena can't die because the impact would be pretty low.
Nostalgic PC games - I LOVE that RQ appears to be into old tech. I want to see Chester and Norris play Catz 5. Lowfi retro charm.
Dyhard - I go back and forth on this one, it feels too obvious what with the hot drinks imagery workplace annoyances to lovers stuff, but at the same time it does Just Make Sense.
Somebody becomes disabled - In Archives people were injured a lot, but none of that amounted to a long-term physical disability, except for Melanie's blindness. Feels like something to do in Protocol.
Police brutality - Feels like a theme that Jonny still has more to say about, and an incredibly easy one to weave into this kind of story.
Alice is hiding something - I actually think she isn't but y'all are saying it.
Alice naming stuff has consequences - She does it so much and Colin warned her off it, clearly seeming concerned but not explaining why, I think it will have unforeseen and damaging consequences.
Someone has a pet - In Archives, especially in the earlier seasons, everyone was notably unattached. Martin has a mum to take care of, but nobody has partners or children. I think this was partly because it made them easier to manipulate, and partly because it meant that tragedy could be dialled up: Sasha dying was sad, but not as gutwrenching as Daisy dying because Daisy's relationships were more fleshed out because it was later in the series. We're already bucking that trend with Celia's son, so I think we might see a pet too. Also, the pet will probably die.
Alice dies in the last season - Alice is very killable but she's also the heart and soul of the character relationships, so I think they will kill her but they'll wait to do it, and then do it mid-final season as an OOH THEY WENT THERE turning point, like how Tim dying brought in a new, darker era for Archives.
Conclusion that love isn't what makes you human - At London Comicon in October, Alex or Jonny (I forget) said that if Archives was about what makes you a monster, Protocol is about what makes you human. I think it's kinda trite if love is the answer, and I think the conclusion re love will be that monsters can love, because that's cooler. Hell yeah romantic monsterfucking.
Celia evil - I LOVE that we're seeing another Welsh person, but she doesn't sit well with me.
Agnes returns but we don't hear her speak - The tree on the other side of the rift is still alive, and if that universe was this one then that means that Agnes may still be alive. Jonny and Alex have said that they regret not doing more with Agnes, and I don't think they'll miss out on the opportunity to use her again. However, I think the fact that she doesn't speak is central to her tragic character and role as Jon's character foil, and I don't think they'll change that. I actually posted a tiktok about this.
Scene on London public transport - We're already seeing our gang at the pub and on dates, I think we're going to get some tube content.
Jmart fate worse than death - They're going to have us WISHING that they died in mag200.
Fears never treated as separate - I just think we're over that.
Breakup - They're getting the character relationships in early, so I'm predicting an onscreen breakup, because that's one of the few ways that we didn't see relationships between characters going bad in Archives.
Gerry's life gets ruined again - I'm sorry guys but I don't think they're going to let him have peace. He's going to get dragged into the OIAR situation and he's going to suffer.
Alice's brother lives - People are already noting similarities between Alice and Tim, I think that it'll be essentially the same character beat again if her brother dies. Adapt, improvise, overcome, RQ.
Another Michael - Just another character called Michael, unrelated to the four existing Michaels. I wasn't going to put this because Jonny is very aware of the four Michael problem, but this man plagurised his own full legal Christian name, so anything is possible.
Jack is Agnes' Jack - I think it's cool if we all think about how there was actually a massive age gap between Agnes and Jack because she didn't seem to age past her twenties, so he was absolutely a child when she was an adult. Not that I want to have Discourse or anything, that relationship was hecked up and complex in plenty of other ways, just because it's interesting.
Onscreen kiss - They said they wouldn't do it during Archives and then they did and it wasn't that gross, so I'm ready to see it happening again. They might have a relationship between allosexuals this time, I don't think they're going as far as onscreen fucking, but I'm game to be surprised. Insert joke about reusing the whimpering noises from Archives here.

i know that ruby and cas are often compared in their "love interest" function but to me there's just so much more than that. they're basically opposite characters (not just in the literal sense of hell vs heaven): ruby seems to be rebelling against hell while she's secretly acting in its favor; cas starts off as a soldier following heaven's orders and ends up rebelling and working against it. they both die for their own personal cause, although ruby was not granted the possibility of resurrection. and aside from the problematic fact that death is more permanent for women than men in spn, i wonder if it's also because ruby totally failed at her "friend/support" function (because she was sort of faking it or, if she wasn't, she was manipulating sam) while cas manages to create a real connection with the human in his charge and it starts changing him. don't get me wrong, i actually love that her "reveal" was an evil one, and i generally don't like when the show offers us weak redemption arcs consisting in monsters falling in love with one of the winchesters (ugh). i'm also not a fan of redemption arcs in general but anyway. but i do wonder if the cas/ruby parallel is way more interesting in light of their "friend/support" function. i might be wrong but these two are the first non-family characters interacting with the brothers for extended periods of time. and having someone outside of your family with whom you spend time, who supports you, and that you generally like is important. not great news here but what i'm saying is that for sam and dean to have someone else was a big step. so while i like ruby as a character, i'm a bit saddened by the fact that they didn't give sam someone to establish this type of bond with. that he was being manipulated again. and this state of affairs stays exactly the same for many seasons. sam has 0 friends/support figures outside of dean, which is just plain tragic. with ruby out of the way forever, cas' "opposite/dark mirror" function is given to crowley (it's not a case that, again, the two died on the same episode, just like with ruby and just like her crowley, too, was not granted permission for resurrection). which, okay, for all practical purposes i like crowley (although i suspect i like mark sheppard more, tbh), but i mean, bad bad bad women who die die die must stay dead dead dead so ruby had to stay as such, but what about meg? we were so close to having her as cas' mirror :"(. i'm a fan of homoeroticism as much as the next person but i do find that in spn it sometimes dims the light on other characters, especially female presenting demons (don't even wanna talk about abbadon grrr). cas cannibalized anna and then crowley cannibalized all other demonesses, it's not fair okay? i loved them! :( *me: shouting at chuck: now you bring her back! ruby, meg, even lilith!* *puches the wall* **chuck actually brings them back in s15** *me: not like that, chuckdammit! clenches her fists at heaven*.

Headcanons for Susie's birthdays
HAPPY 8TH ANNIVERSARY FOR KIRBY: PLANET ROBOBOT!!!!!!
AND ALL THE CHARACTERS THAT DEBUTED IN THE GAME, INCLUDING SUSANNA PATRYA HALTMANN!!!!!
I have headcanons for what Susie's birthdays are like throughout her life... Planet Robobot's anniversary is the perfect day to post them!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Susie experienced a massive deprivation of birthday celebrations. A large chunk of her life, her birthdays weren't even celebrated at all.
During the first several years of her life, her beloved father was there to celebrate little Susie's birthdays and spoil her rotten with presents. It was such a wonderful time for her. She loved every minute of it....
.... But that never happened ever again after she got sucked into the portal that sent her to Another Dimension. That changed it all forever.
That marks the beginning of Susie's birthdays going completely uncelebrated for a very long time. There was no way for her birthdays to be celebrated during her time in Another Dimension. Her father wasn't around to do it anymore. There was literally no other lifeform in Another Dimension that was willing to wish her a happy birthday... Susie didn't encounter anything aside from predatory sphere doomers that were ready to attack her time and time again.
Man, it would've helped out SO MUCH if she encountered Magolor at that place.
Susie tried to self-celebrate her first birthday in Another Dimension, but it felt very empty to do so. It didn't feel nearly the same as when her father was there to help celebrate it with her, and it didn't really did anything to cheer herself up because she was still utterly miserable to be stuck in this hell dimension. It was all-around tragic.
She was forced to concede to not having her birthdays receive any sort of celebration whatsoever for a long time. It was hard on her. She was spoiled so hard by everything her father did for her when she was little, it emotionally destroyed her to have all of that be forcibly taken away from her. She was deprived of so many things after she got banished to Another Dimension. She was robbed of so, so much.
She was stuck in that place for more than a decade. She's had to go that long without any birthday celebrations. That's... that's so long.
And to make matters worse, it didn't even stop there! When Susie finally escaped Another Dimension to see her dad again, her birthdays still weren't getting celebrated at all. The deprivation went on for even longer! On top of her dad not remembering her being his daughter at all and refusing to accept hugs from her, it would come as no surprise that he also didn't bother celebrating her birthdays at that point. He simply didn't have the emotional attachment to do so.
He didn't even celebrate his own birthdays anymore after Star Dream ate his mind.
It got to the point where Susie just saw her birthday as something insignificant. She was already used to not having it celebrated at all after being stuck in Another Dimension for so long, and so she just gave up on the mere idea of her birthday completely when her senile father couldn't be arsed to do anything for it. Everything that happened to Susie had eventually conditioned her into not caring about her birthday. That's what happens when one gets so deprived.
However... things change after the events of Planet Robobot, when Susie's father dies, and she makes friends for the first time in forever.
At one point, Kirby asked Susie when her birthday was. He was curious to know. Susie reluctantly answered. She told him what her birthday was, but by that point she didn't care about her birthday anymore. She said to him that she didn't celebrate it at all and didn't even see the point in doing so, since she has no family to celebrate it.
That response made Kirby sad. He's a little guy with an enormous heart. He cares so much about his friends, that's why he asks about their birthdays because he really wants to do something for them.
A lot of things about Susie made Kirby really sad after they became friends. Even just losing her father was sad enough for him, but she had even told him some of her tragic story which absolutely broke his heart. He's came to see just how deprived she was of so many things. That she broke down crying when he gave her a hug for the first time was proof of deprivation of hugs. That she went through so many birthdays uncelebrated is also proof of deprivation. Just... uggghhhh!
She didn't deserve that. She deserved so much better than that, Kirby thought. He wanted to do something for Susie when her birthday finally came around. He felt like he had to! And so he did.
Who's to say that your birthdays can't also be celebrated by people that aren't family?
At one point, when Susie's birthday came up, she got met with something she never expected to see. It shocked her beyond belief.
Kirby, Taranza and Magolor arranged a surprise birthday party for her. Those were her three main friends at the time, and it seemed like they all cared enough to do something when her special came up.
Susie finally experiences celebration for her birthdays again. After well over a decade of literally zero celebration, it comes rushing at her like a train. These three people literally went out of their way to help Susie try to feel like her birthday meant something once again.
... At first, she didn't know how to respond. She was completely speechless as she was caught by total surprise at them doing this.
But then it reminded her of when her father celebrated her birthdays back when she was a little kid, and how much she loved that. Was it.... was it seriously that long ago when her birthday saw any sort of celebration? It.... it was. It was. And here it is, it's happening again.
Susie couldn't help it. After this pondering, she grew extremely emotional over this surprise party. She breaks down crying. Her emotions were all over the place during this party. It's not usual of her to do this, but she rushed to give hugs to Kirby, Taranza and Magolor to thank them for doing this. She didn't ask them to arrange a surprise birthday for her... they were under no obligation to do this, but they fact they chose to do it anyway made her emotions go crazy.
It meant the world to her that they did this.
They continued arranging these birthday parties for her over the years afterwards. And at some point, it no longer became just Kirby, Magolor and Taranza that were celebrating Susie's birthdays. The three Mage Sisters joined in on this after Susie became close enough friends with them to where they were interested in doing things for her birthday, too. There was a total of six people doing this for Susie.
Even after her first birthday party, she still finds herself getting really emotional at many of the following ones. After not having these for so long, it means absolutely everything to her that these happen. It makes her feel like an excited little kid when her friends come by to do this for her when the day comes each year. She loves it so much.
Susie cherishes these parties happening for her birthdays.
She's been having to relearn and unlearn a lot things after detaching herself from emotions for a long time. Post-Robobot is the best time for her, tbh. Her dad may be gone, and she's been really hurt by his death, but now she has friends that really care about her. They're the best thing to ever happen to her. Because of them, she's been starting to realize what it's like to feel loved again. That life will be okay.
Her friends are the reason she's been able to heal from her past trauma. They've thrown things at her like love, comfort, hugs, and giving her celebration during her birthdays. And after having none of that for so long, she slowly softens up as a person over time after getting all of this once again. She really needed all this, didn't she?
After what she's been through, this sort of thing was long overdue.
Susie... is still certainly not the most emotional person around. A lot of the time, she's still kind of stoic. And she doesn't have a lot of friends, as she's still not very open to making a bunch of them. But she really cherishes the friends that she DOES have, and they can easily elicit emotion out of her sometimes. Honestly, she's not sure what she would do without them. They've done so much for her.
Thanks to them, her birthday is a day of happiness and joy for her. After that not being the case for so long, they turn it around for her.
Going to give a special shout-out to Taranza, because he is Susie's closest friend. And he also does something peculiar in each of her birthdays: every time her party is over and the rest of her friends go home, he stays for a little bit. He and Susie have some heartfelt talks, and he makes sure she gets her barrage of tight comfy bear-hugs for her birthday. Susie loves Taranza's hugs. She loves how soft and fuzzy he is, and him having 6 arms adds on to the comfiness that she feels from his hugs. Over the years, he's been really good at comforting her, both emotionally and physically. Susie cherishes him a bunch.
Kirby, Magolor and the Mage Sisters all deserve a thanks as well. They, along with Taranza, are the ones that help Susie relearn the special meaning of her birthdays. She's gotten back something she lost here. And it's a really wonderful thing for her. She deserved this.
Happy birthday, Susie!

Stray Cat from Stray vs [REDACTED] from Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. Vote for your fav!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Need help picking? Check down here!
Stray cat - Blue Twelve Studio - 2022 - Ginger tabby:
-Because they are from a wonderful game where you can meow
-Very clever, even if not accompanied by their friendly robot! Fast enough to outrun a lot of zurks! Brave enough to venture into dangerous places to try to open the city to reunite with their family! Can knock a chess game over, and curl up on the chest of a robot. Helps a robot grandma get what she needs to make a poncho for someone else.
-kitty faces the horrors and comes out alive. very good
-This is just a regular cat. The game is based on being a regular cat. I think that’s neat.
-This cat is the main character of the video game that they’re in and survived hell and back by traveling within a city where robots and zurks live.
[REDACTED] - CAPCOM - 2010 - Magic black cat:
-He is DEAD and has GHOST POWERS. He can TIME TRAVEL. He has a LOVING CAT DAD as his OWNER and the only family they have left is EACH OTHER. I would go into detail but that would involve spoiling the best mystery game ever written. You should play Ghost Trick. This stupid cat has not left my brain in months. He's haunting me. Which is fitting because he is a ghost. Did I mention he's a ghost cat what is cooler than a ghost cat.
-most special little guy in the world. hes HUGE spoilers for the game btw but um. yea <3
-Because [REDACTED] is the true Schroeder’s cat, he is both dead and alive at the same time and has really cool ghost powers. Also, he can’t read!
-If you haven’t played Ghost Trick, I tragically cannot tell you the spoilers, but this cat is sweet and determined and got a sad man through some rough times.

you know what hill i'll die on? terzo is not the sluttiest emeritus
I mean sure, he's the most dramatic and the most outspoken about sex, and he gave us Mummy Dust which is its own discussion-- but I sincerely don't see him, in his private life, being so promiscuous. Like out of all of them, I'm the most certain Terzo would be either monogamous or have a few regular partners at most, but I don't think he'd be big on casual flings. Frankly I don't even see him having sex that much at this point, he seems more attached to it as a concept than an actual activity he regularly engages in.
You know who's the inverse of that, though? The one Tobias himself calls a pervert? Secondo. There's your whore. I know he looks big and mean and authoritary but let's be honest, half of Infestissumam is about ritual sex and he's out in Vegas on the regular with more women than he can reliably satisfy. He says it himself that he became Papa because "he likes a sexy beat". THERE'S THE EMERITUS WHORE, AND I'M CERTAIN OF IT

i still think about vinny in genloss…
like everyone talks about how tragic niki’s death was, which is fair, but at least niki had more than five minutes of screen time. hell, vinny couldn’t even finish his speech on the carousel before he was cut off, and if i recall correctly, he was the only one that didn’t get to say his peace.
his lines were literally just his speech and then confidently saying he could make it in the laser room and… that was it. he was never mentioned again and the protagonists just moved on. even in death all he got was a throw away gag and an expression of disgust with an apology from The Hero. after that both Showfall and the audience let him fall into obscurity.
i still wonder if he volunteered because he truly thought he could’ve beaten it, or if he knew that the chances were not in favor of all three of them walking out alive and decided he would be the canon fodder that went first—that died first. but then again i suppose it doesn’t matter as he didn’t even have enough lines to establish a character motivation, much less why he volunteered himself to go first
(and also, what did his death look like uncensored? the laser room always stuck out to me as being odd; it definitely fits with the goofiness of The Puzzler’s other traps, but SFM always had something far more sinister waiting just beyond the veil… so what actually happened? were they just hiding how much carnage an anvil falling from that high would cause or was his death entirely different?)
i cant say i have watched his content [ironic, given the monologue that is this post, i know] but i’m interested to know what his audience thought of his appearance, the nuances i may have missed from not knowing him as a creator or a character before he died

I often think about Daniel Pierce seeing Hawkeye again for the first time in 3 years when he gets off that plane. and I often wonder how Daniel feels when he sees his son, who is probably barely past 30, is almost as grey as he is

So, the season finale of Hazbin Hotel came out last night.
Spoilers ahead
I was never part of the Hazbin Hotel or Helluva Boss fandom(s), though I have been watching Helluva Boss since about midway through when season one was being released. I only watched the pilot for Hazbin Hotel maybe six months to a year ago, and I only ever watched it once. I never kept up with VivziePop or whatever was happening behind the scenes. I watched Hazbin Hotel as it came out the past few weeks, I’ve watched some TikToks about it over the past week, and I read through a few (like, three) of the character’s wiki pages like, yesterday.
So, with all of my inexperience in the fandom and in this universe, I’m going to try to predict how the show is going to end.
Kind of.
Well, I’m going to make a prediction.
I think Angel Dust will be the last resident of the hotel we see get redeemed.
Angel was the first resident of the hotel. It’s only fitting that he’d be the last (that we see, anyway).
I think that season one was almost like a set-up season. The main characters and their characterizations/arcs have been established. The main problem, the extermination, has been temporarily dealt with. It’s been proven that the main objective in the show, redeeming sinners through the Hazbin Hotel, is possible. Seeds of a bigger plot and future trouble have been planted.
Now that the bigger plot things are out of the way, I think the show will be able to (hopefully) slow the pace down now and really focus on the hotel itself and the redemption process of the sinners that choose to be there, along with the individual characters and their personal journeys and arcs.
I think that Sir Pentious getting redeemed and making it into Heaven proved that the concept of the hotel can work, so now that they have the bigger, newly built hotel, they’ll start to get more residents. We’ll meet and bond with more characters as the seasons go on and they’ll go through the hotel and eventually get redeemed and go to Heaven.
I think that during all of this, for the next few seasons, we’ll see Angel work towards redeeming himself too. At this point, he’s accepted the hotel. He’s accepted his place there and he’s been visibly getting better. We’ll see him continue his path to redemption while also dealing with Valentino, his contract with him, and any other personal conflicts that arise.
I think that partway through the show, we’ll see Angel start to kind of put off becoming fully redeemed. Maybe he’ll just slow down, but I think we’ll see him become more apprehensive about completing his redemption.
At this point, he’ll probably already be in an official relationship with Husk, and his situation with Valentino might be resolved or at least not as much of an issue anymore. I think he’ll start putting off officially moving on into Heaven because he realizes that he doesn’t want to leave his friends behind. He won't want to leave the friends he’s made at the hotel, so even though he might be ready or almost ready to go to Heaven, he’ll just keep putting it off.
I think Angel’s ascension to Heaven will be the big series finale. I think that it’ll be a big emotional moment. Angel will accept that it’s time to move on, and there will be an emotional scene where he says goodbye to Charlie (who, as a Hellborn demon and not a mortal soul, can’t go to Heaven like the other sinners), and Vaggie (who will choose to stay with Charlie and has no desire to go back to Heaven), and probably Alastor (who loves his power and control too much to want anything to do with redemption himself) and maybe Niffty (I’m undecided about whether she’ll try for redemption, but I’m thinking no, at least as of right now). If Husk stays behind, that’ll be an absolutely heartbreaking goodbye too, but I’m thinking that, at some point in the show, Husk might decide to try for redemption as well, so maybe he and Angel are going together and saying their goodbyes together.
I think we’ll get a teary goodbye for the people Angel is leaving behind in Hell, but we’ll also get a joyous reunion scene where he meets up with all the redeemed souls in Heaven as well. He’ll get to see all the former residents we got to meet throughout the show, and maybe he’ll even have a moment where he gets to reunite with his sister, too. It’ll be a somewhat bittersweet moment, but a happy one overall, because Angel Dust, the first resident of the Hazbin Hotel, who didn’t take it seriously in the beginning and thought redemption wasn’t possible, who went through so much in Hell and who didn’t think things could get better for him, will have finally completed the journey to redemption and moved on to Heaven.
And then maybe we’ll get an epilogue-esque scene or series of clips of Charlie and Vaggie happily continuing to help redeem sinners in the Hazbin Hotel, of Angel and the other redeemed souls happily living their best afterlives in Heaven, of the redeemed sinners meeting and welcoming new redeemed souls into Heaven as they come in.
And maybe, taking place some time in the future, maybe years after Angel goes to Heaven, we’ll get a moment of Charlie and Vaggie, and any of the other original cast that stayed in Hell, being allowed to take a day trip into Heaven. Maybe we’ll get to see them reunite with the redeemed sinners in Heaven in person for the first time since the redeemed souls left, and it’ll be a happy reunion where they’re all just happy to see each other again and catch up. Maybe at this point the show has already established a way for the redeemed souls to still be able to communicate and keep in touch with those in Hell, so maybe this isn’t the first time the two groups have spoken to each other since the redeemed souls left the hotel, but maybe it is the first time since the redeemed souls left that they’ve been able to see each other in person, so the teary hugs all around are expected and maybe even appreciated.
Maybe the show will end on a happy note, where our first and most skeptical hotel resident ends up happily redeemed with a partner who loves and values him for who he is and friends who care for him, and where our main character is able to fulfill her dreams of helping her subjects find the best version of themselves and move on to a better place.
Maybe the extermination no longer happens, so there’s no more deadlines. Maybe being redeemed is no longer just an escape from second death. Not every soul in Hell is going to want to change, but for Charlie, it’s not about redeeming every soul. The Hazbin Hotel started as a way to decrease Hell’s population so that the extermination would no longer be necessary, so that no more souls, however awful, would be needlessly killed, but Charlie knows that the extermination was never about overpopulation, and yet she’s still going through with the hotel and she’s still working to redeem sinners.
So, maybe the extermination is a thing of the past, but Charlie will still continue running the hotel and giving sinners another chance, because everyone deserves another chance. Because Hell isn’t forever, and despite whatever some people did when they were alive, they deserve the chance to try to redeem themselves. They deserve the chance to try to be better. And that’s Charlie’s dream. She just wants to give her subjects the opportunity to do better, and not everyone will take it, but in the end, we'll see that all the effort was worth it for those few souls who do.
So, to recap: I think Angel Dust will be the last sinner we see get redeemed. We might get clips and/or mentions of souls after him, but he’ll be the last character to go to Heaven who’s journey to redemption we’ve seen. In the series finale, he’ll be the last major character to be redeemed, and we’ll get to see him live his best life in Heaven while Charlie happily stays behind in Hell to help guide more souls along the path to redemption.
Or at least, that’s something I’d like to see, anyway.
#even if this doesnt happen i think it's a cool idea lol#i love the idea of angel starting the hotel and then finishing it (for us)#like i feel like angel moving on should be a big deal right?#there's no way they wont make it a big deal#and i feel like they'll keep him in the hotel for as long as possible because he's a very popular character#and sending him to heaven earlier would split the focus of the show too much bc there's no way they'd write him off the show#and he has a lot to resolve in hell before going to heaven ie the situation with valentino and his slow burn with husk#there'd not be enough proper time for that if he goes to heaven too early#but there's also no way he doesn't go to heaven in the end lol not with his current tragic 'life' story#i also really hope husk tries for redemption and goes with angel in the end#it would suck for angel to finally find and bond with someone who actually loves him for who he is only to have to leave him behind#that would suck#so idk this might be a hot take but i really do want husk to eventually start working towards redemption#but i also want it to be bc he wants it. not just for angel if that makes sense#like getting to stay with angel is definitely nice and good for him but i want him to ultimately try for redemption for himself yknow#anyway ive gotten way off track lol#i also kinda got off track in the post at the end oops. but charlie can actually be so interesting#anyway this might all be wrong and maybe vizziepop has already said smth about angel's fate but like i said im new to all this so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯#hazbin hotel#hazbin angel dust#angel dust#huskerdust#hazbin hotel theory#hazbin hotel thoughts#hazbin hotel angel dust#hazbin hotel analysis#hazbin charlie#charlie morningstar#vivziepop#hazbin hotel spoilers

okay so something I love in what you've written is the running thematic element of how the "lack" of a character is treated as its own entity/character, not only with Goose--how he’s the “center of the universe” as you say--but also with Sarah. Idk if I just focused hard on Ice’s childhood/adolescence the entire time reading because I’m obsessed with how you wrote him, but the way there were bits and pieces thrown in about her as the story unfolded (Tom's pot-smoking era, the way they grew up so different but had a similar childhood, the unreturned letters and phone calls--also, Ice seeing Chorus Line on Broadway alone was so silly I loved it. Iceman Kazansky: pilot by day, musical theater fan by night. why was he so interested in fucking Chorus Line of all musicals.) but she never actually made an in-the-flesh appearance makes the entire fic, and Ice’s characterization, so dynamic and moving. Like Ice didn’t grow up as a sad little kid with no siblings and some evil overbearing Admiral father that turned him into a Navy-regulated cog in the machine; he had a sister (and grandmother?? A hipster Woodstock grandma?) who loved or at least cared for him a long long time ago, and her presence left a very visible mark (both emotionally and career-wise) on him no matter how “ice cold” he made himself. And in the very very beginning of WWGATTAI, he and Mav were bro-talking about their families and Ice was all like “grr I might as well not have a sister” because he’s secretly Popeye he was grouchy and young and Sarah had stopped talking to him, but then 9/11 happened and he kept trying to get in touch with her just to make sure she’s okay, and then they finally get to talk at the end of Debriefing and it's like...he's reached the top and he's become the person he's always wanted to become, but he's still the exact same. He wants his sister. He's “The Iceman" and can probably run the Navy on his own, but he’s also just someone’s little brother that used to smoke pot with all the other California hippies. He misses her but he can't talk about it.
Also, you didn't just shoehorn her into the story as a character that would be the Tom Kazansky Version of Carole-and-Goose (or as Ice's wife LMAO) and I loved how you gave her personal depth and a purpose/life outside the story while still adding to Ice's characterization through giving him another person to (a) care too much about and (b) shove into his closet of skeletons because the relationship he has with them is breaking some sort of federal regulation. I hope this all makes sense hahaha, but anyway I loved Sarah and how you treated her. It was so entertaining/heartbreaking to watch Ice wrestle with how the main three people he loves are his communist sister, a male romantic partner who is also a subordinate he bails out of sticky situations constantly, and the son of the man he was involved in the death of. crazy stuff.
ok this is so funny & I love this so much because… it wasn't really how I was thinking about it at the time & I'm so glad it comes across as much warmer than how I originally wrote it... okay like i could explain everything but muh “death of the author”…… eh fuck it okay. I’ll put it under a cut so you can choose not to watch me auto-fellate. another long post, sorry.
so, on Sarah.
I should start this post by saying straight off the bat that she’s literally just a self-insert for me, the author, as a leftist who lives in New York and would not give someone like Tom the time of day, so I could feel better morally/ethically about writing Top Gun fanfiction. So, there’s that. But she (just like everyone else in this fic) is just a tool to get across information about Ice and the story as a whole, and there’s a reason she was introduced in chapter one (two if you’re reading on AO3 i guess. no prologue, wtf is up with that AO3 you guys need to fix that). I wanted to convey a shitload of information at the start, especially because I was posting semi-weekly and wanted people to know what they were getting into because it’s a slow burn.
To summarize what happens in chapter one:
Goose is dead.
Ice and Maverick kill some MiGskyites in addition to killing Goose and it cements some weird fucked-up hyperinterdependent relationship between them.
No, this does not make them instantly friends. They are still fundamentally different people who dislike each other’s outlook on life.
Ice kills some more Soviets and becomes Maverick’s equal, though still not in rank/honor.
Ice writes to his sister Sarah, who doesn’t answer.
Ice hooks up with a girl, but finds that he can’t relate to her as much as he did before the experience of TOPGUN. Also, he can’t relate to women at all.
Ice tries to visit Sarah, and is rejected.
Ice sees A Chorus Line on Broadway by himself.
Ice and Maverick talk to each other as semi-equals, and Ice explains that his sister is a Commie who will never talk to him again. He also explains that he wants to get to the top because he thinks it will make him a good man, or that he can make the Navy better because he himself is a good man. Maverick says, yeah right bozo.
So we’re 5,000 words into a 90,000-word fic and already you know the following:
This entire story and everyone in it revolves around Goose’s death and who gets the blame for Goose’s death.
Ice and Mav are brought together not because they like each other, but because the experience of killing both their friend and their enemies has made it impossible for anyone else on Earth to understand them to that same extent. From the first word, they're already both so fucked-up it really is each other or nobody.
This is gonna be a sloooow burn.
Ice and Mav might end up as superior and subordinate, but they are fundamentally equal ("you can be my wingman anytime/bullshit you can be mine"), and start out as equals. They are now directly responsible for the same amount of death.
Sarah is Ice’s sister, so Ice is definitely not getting married to a woman in this fic. Good news for everyone scared by the slow burn.
Ice had previously had fun with women, and still wants to marry a woman because it "follows all the rules," but after meeting Maverick/the whole TOPGUN experience he finds them annoying/unrelatable. He can’t relate to women at all and doesn't believe this woman when she tells him she loves him because he himself has never been in love with a woman. He is gay.
Ice sees A Chorus Line on Broadway by himself. He is gay.
Sarah will not be in this fic, and Ice is a categorically lonely man who is isolated from anyone who could possibly help him talk about how he feels.
Sarah is a Communist who rejected her military brother, not the other way around, so this is a leftist fic from a leftist perspective, but about conservative men whose conservative personal and political opinions will be repeatedly challenged by the end. This is not a pro-Navy story.
As a corollary to that, the ship for Ice to “be a good man” has already sailed. He’s gonna try his best to be a good man—emphasis on man—throughout the story, but he’s already failed from the very first line.
And Ice steadfastly and stubbornly refuses to be honest with us or himself about how he feels about any of the above.
So you basically have everything you need to understand the rest of the story. Now you (reader) and I (author) can meet each other in the middle on equal terms, and the real story can actually finally get started in the next chapter. It’s a lot of information. Which is why it’s not written very well and the pacing is fucked.
But yeah I just used “Sarah” as an expository tool to help first-time readers understand the political lens of this fic from the get-go, so we don’t have to have a lot of hand-wringing when Ice becomes a war hero of the Persian Gulf War or anything like that (though in my a/n for chapter 5 i did admittedly do some hand-wringing. i gotta delete those a/ns). So, Sarah becomes kind of a weak stand-in for Ice’s political guilt. She’s only mentioned four times besides chapter one, i think—once when Ice is with “Laura” (he is still incredibly guilty about all the people he killed & feels like he let “Sarah” down); once with 9/11 (he still thinks about “Sarah” often enough that she’s the first thing he thinks of when the country has been attacked [still haven't decided if this is the real Sarah though]); once when he’s getting high with Maverick (he is constantly reminded by the brass of the ways in which he is not a good man); and once at the end of “Debriefing,” where they actually get to talk to each other—because he has finally “snapped out of it” and left the Navy.
This fic wasn’t meant to be my sorta-kinda-but-not-really-anti-military soapbox preaching, though, which is why Sarah’s hardly in it at all. It’s a D-plot. Maybe even an E-plot. All in service of the Icemav A-plot. That end scene has a couple different purposes, actually. The second is that Sarah, who at this point is pretty much just a stranger, becomes a receptacle for Ice to prove that he can finally be honest with himself and others about his relationship with Maverick. And…that’s pretty much it. I did do more with her in my Slider one-shot but i honestly dk if that’s getting posted at this point (ITS ROUGH) so im not gonna talk about it now.
But—that was all Sarah as a symbol, which is very un-fun. Sarah as a character is kind of a blank slate, but how Ice thinks about her/misses her is not, as you said :) I’m wary of posting headcanons that are dependent on my fic, though I do have many, because I feel like that’s not really the point of headcanons… “compacflt!Ice-specific headcanons…” idk that seems a little self-aggrandizing even for me. But, yeah, I guess I would characterize my Ice’s childhood as not greeeaaat, because his dad apparently died in Vietnam when he was like eight and his mom apparently died in a car crash when he was twelve (which is why he’s such a good driver [ch 8 notwithstanding DO NOT DRIVE 120 ON I-5]), but also not, like, abusive or anything. Raised by his grandmother (in the Slider one-shot, which I might as well spoil for you since I’m feeling quite hopeless about it, Slider kinda helps Ice deal with her death in the second year they’re at the Academy together, and it’s how their friendship really starts) who might have been hippy-ish and encouraged him breaking the rules, but also he & his sister were very very impacted by the death of their father at war. This is getting kind of deep into it, and I’m just kinda making it up, but I think there was probably a lot of strife between him and Sarah when he was gearing up to go to the Academy/getting his recommendations etc., like actual arguments and screaming matches—yes, she’s disappointed in him, but more than anything she wants to keep him safe so he doesn’t die like their dad (relevant for ice/rooster later)—and he ended up losing her, so it made a deep, deep impression on how he handles (avoids) confrontation about serious stuff like this when he knows he's gonna lose… my ice has a confrontation issue, obviously. but so does canon. see him "apologizing" to maverick for goose's death in the movie for another example of this. bro is struggling.
But thats just me makin shit up so whatever.
But that’s me just makin shit up so whatever.

underrated genre of character playlist entry: songs a character would relate to because they do not understand their situation, themself, or the song itself well enough to realize it is not accurate (and might well straight up be a callout for people like them). which song is your blorbo's fight club
#whosebaby talks#general fandoms tag#shitposting#genuinely this is one of my favorite things to put in a character's playlist#for one thing i seem to like characters who listen to The Plagues and go WOW COOL BLOODTHIRSTY VENGEANCE FOR A WORLD THAT'S WRONGED YOU#and miss or ignore the part where it's meant to be tragic and moses is devastated because they're people and it's his home too#pericles is the first one that comes to mind because the autisms are autisming all over sdmi currently#but he's definitely not the only one#the only thing is it makes me a little itchy because it makes me wish i could put a little note when i share a playlist that#'no this playlist is not about them being a misunderstood hero they just have a severely distorted view of the world'#sometimes because 'misunderstood hero' would be uh. uhhhhh. it would sure have Implications with some instances#but also because No That's Wrong!! the distortion in their pov is what makes them a good character!!! in my own interpretation or otherwise!#pericles loses So Much Depth if you just play his understandable and even admirable traits as unironic instead of twisted and warped#and gone horribly wrong thanks to how his flaws and external life circumstances t-boned those positive/reasonable traits + motivations#where did he make his own choices to lean into it when he did have the agency to do otherwise#(see: i think in the newniverse; without the entity's influence; the very things that make him such a terrifyingly effective force)#(which are his primary expression of being an evil piece of shit due to his trauma and external circumstances and his reaction to them)#(and the choices he makes about them; would make him an equally effective force for good because they'd make him an *amazing* activist)#'i am my own definition of a vengeful righteous hero dishing out justice against real evil' is his extremely warped idea of what he's doing#he thinks he's the main protagonist of hell's coming with me and he's. not. he's just enough steps to the left to be a horror instead#anyway i love him and i love assigning songs like this your honor#professor pericles#SDMItag

Yeah you know what? Y'all get this speech too, William Afton is scarier when he's humanized than when he's a yellow bunny joker man, entire deal under the cut bc it's fnaf, there's child murder galore so beware
Like, I remember back when we first realized he had a family, and I remember how mad people got when I said that he clearly didn't want his kids to get hurt. Saying he loved them would be extrapolating, but he actively took actions to prevent them from getting injured. We definitively see this with him insisting that Elizabeth stay away from the animatronics, and if you think plushbear is a nanny cam then he seemed to be trying to help Evan, too.
And like, yeah, you could argue any number of motivations. Maybe he was telling Elizabeth all that because he was trying for reverse psychology. Maybe, even if it is a nanny cam, he was just trying to manipulate his son. But he still did things that could feasibly protect his kids, and he could've killed them easily. They lived with him. His targets were kids where he worked, it's not like he couldn't have just brought his kids with him and said that they went missing, too. And they wouldn't even have to be lured; they'd just follow their dad. So I'd argue that he cared enough about them not to use them for his evil experiments.
And if he doesn't start killing until after 83, then you could argue that he started killing because he was trying to find a way to resurrect his own son. If Plushbear is a nanny cam, then that's William at the end, vowing to "put you back together," more likely than not.
And that's scarier to me. Someone murdering kids for fun? As a villain, it's cartoonishly evil. I don't care about this villain, his purpose is exclusively to be The Bad Guy, I don't have to think at all. A parent trying to bring their kid back to life, losing everything in the process? Losing their sense of morality, losing their other kids, their friends, their job, their very name, and in the end their dead kid hates them? Heck, he keeps his dead kid's favorite stuffed animal on his desk, that's even harder to explain as being just another evil thing. It seems to me like he's a grieving parent who completely snapped. Now it's a tragedy, but not necessarily scarier.
What makes it scarier is the way he's described in the books that, presumably, is something that carries over to the games. He's charismatic, he's "like Santa." Everyone loves him. All the children love him. He's great with kids. In the games, the one time we see him alive is when he's selling killer robots to a company. They realize that it's killer robots, and he convinces them to buy anyway. He's clearly still charismatic.
He's not scary because he's killing innocents, he's scary because these kids would've known him. Charlie didn't run when he pulled up beside her, out in the rain, because he was a family friend. He's scary because that's exactly what happens in real life. I don't have to worry about the Joker running over and blowing up a hospital, but I do have to worry about William Afton, your dad's old college buddy that everyone loves, deciding that what he wants is more important than your life. The family friend whose word everyone would believe over yours is a much scarier villain than the creepy dude in the woods, because it's a real threat.

Having Too Many Feelings™ about Lady Macbeth today.
#specifically how a lot of people consider her to have o/c/d (she does) and a lot of this is tied to The Blood-Washing Scene where she#sees bodily fluids that aren't there and can't ever feel clean (which. yes. definitely a symptom) but there is SO MUCH OTHER STUFF#that suggests that she has this illness beyond that. stuff that's present before then.#she prays to supernatural forces to take away her emotions/vulnerability because she feels out of control#everything she does is defined by Guilt™ even BEFORE the Big Monologue™#there's the aforementioned Prayer To Spirits. there's the fact that she's so overcome with guilt during the FIRST STAGE OF THE PLAN#because one of the guys they need to kill sort of vaguely reminds her in passing of her dead dad and she feels Bad™#there's the fact that her grab for power and desire to be literally anyone other than who she is are compulsive. she can't be good enough#for her husband she can't be good enough for herself gaining power is a manifestation of perfectionism that she doesn't have the#vocabulary to describe or the awareness to realize#she's in her head all the time and all of these are compulsions albeit really fucked up ones that most people suffering from this don't have#and somehow despite being on the heels of assuming that people suffering from this were possessed by the devil (which like. adds a whole#other thing when stacked against the fact that what she's doing WILL CONDEMN HER TO HELL ACCORDING TO GENERALLY ESTABLISHED BELIEFS#and I highly doubt she doesn't know this. but she's willing to risk hell to give her husband something and to give herself peace while alive#she's willing to risk that damnation anyway) DESPITE that being the prevailing opinion of people with o/c/d and not having any sort of#widely-recognized or helpful medical knowledge/treatment. shakespeare STILL managed to capture what this illness is like and STILL made her#this complex and tragic and sympathetic character and he did all of that WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHAT THIS ILLNESS IS AND I HAVE A LOT OF#FEELINGS ABOUT IT#I got to go on a Tear™ about this character to my bestie the other day which calmed the storm a little bit but I NEED TO SCREAM ABOUT HER#I NEED TO WRITE 50 MORE PAGES OF ANALYSIS ABOUT THIS CHARACTER DOING IT ONCE AS MY UNDERGRAD CAPSTONE WAS NOT ENOUGH#I NEED TO PLAY HER#I NEED EVERYONE IN THE WORLD TO LOVE AND UNDERSTAND HER LIKE I DO
