Devotional Poem for Fenrir
By Wild Grace
Your first words to me
were more cold winter air than howl,
more silence than speech,
gentle almost, in the way of a tired soldier.
I clutched your figurine in a fist,
ready to fight, wanting to flee.
and you answered the question that has haunted me
from the time I learned to speak.
You whispered,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
I, too, have watched my child’s bonds
grow tighter with every struggle.
I have sat with her and wept with her,
and wept *for* her.
I, too, have bitten off
the hand that betrayed me.
When the storm threatened to take me
you said to me,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
Our Great Mother sang lullabies in my ears
when the woman who birthed me
held me down
because I would not stop crying.
I flung our Mother’s compassion in her face.
When my heart hardened,
you assured me,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
You, too, know what it is
to be tied down and mocked.
You, too, know what it is
to be called strong as they
spit in your face
and talk behind your back.
You, too, know what it is
to never be satisfied
with the scraps you are thrown.
You spoke to me then,
and you speak to me now:
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
While I plot my Ragnarok,
I dream of washing the world
in fire and blood,
to break apart,
to tear down,
to expose,
to avenge,
to bring honor to our families —
the survivors of *their* order and justice.
It is by your example,
Great Monster,
Insatiable Wolf,
Devourer of the Sun,
Being of Darkness and Hunger.
You stand by my side at the end of this world
and shake yourself,
blood rushing back into your limbs.
With a growl, baring teeth
that long to tear
into traitorous throats,
you snarl,
“Come, brother.
We have work to do.”

Loki Deity Guide
Loki’s mythology is not as chaotic as you may think…
It’s even more chaotic than that!
Tumblr media
Who is Loki?
Often referred to as the Trickster God of the Aesir, Loki is actually the son of Fárbauti a giant, or a Jötunn, and Laufey, who was said to be a goddess. Though Loki is often referred to using he/him pronouns, can change his shape and gender at will.
While many of the old stories involving Loki paint him in a negative light, the same cannot be said for Loki’s modern followers.
Parents and Siblings
Fárbauti (Father)
Laufey (Mother), sometimes referred to as Nál.
Býleistr (Brother)
Helblindi (Brother)
Lovers or Partners
Sigyn (Wife)
Angrboda (Lover)
Children
Nari or Narfi (from Sigyn)
Hel (From Angrboda)
Jörmungandr (From Angrboda)
Fenrir (From Angrboda)
Sleipnir (From Svadilfari)
Epithets
Loptr (Old Norse meaning “Air”)
Hveðrungr (Roarer)
Contriver of all fraud
Shape-Changer
Sly-One
Wizard of Lies
Thief of Giants
Evil Companion
Kinsman of Sleipnir
Foe of the Gods
Forger of Evil
Contriver of Baldr’s death
Wrangling Foe of Heimdallr
Notes
Loki was known to be mischievous and at times malicious, but he was also rather helpful in many stories.
At some point Loki’s name became conflated with Logi, meaning “fire”, however, Logi is a separate being and is the Nordic personification or god of fire. Many blame Richard Wagner for this mix-up.
It is also possible that Loki’s name means “knot” or “tangle”.
It has been debated whether or not the Finnish "Lukki" (the name for a spider with thing, long legs) came from the same root as "Loki" ("luka" the proto-germanic word for "lock") but this is not a very popular belief and there is very little evidence to back it up.
Though Loki is part Jötunn, he is seen as part of the Aesir.
My personal favorite story of Loki is Þrymskviða, in which Loki and Thor disguise themselves as women in order to get Thor’s hammer back.
Sleipnir, Loki’s son, is an eight-legged horse that came to be when Loki had to transform into a mare in order to drive away the great stallion, Svadilfari. While Loki was in the form of a mare, the two came together to create Sleipnir who was said to be the fastest and best horse in all of the nine realms. Odin eventually chose Sleipnir as his steed.
One of the most popular tales involving Loki gets its namesake from the god, the Lokkasenna.
Loki ends up punished by the Aesir for either killing Baldr or for the events that take place in Lokkasenna. He is bound in a cave by the intestines of one of his offspring, his son Nari is turned into a wolf, and a venomous snake is placed above his head and drips venom into his eyes. Sigyn holds a shell above his head to protect him from the venom but every so often needs to empty the shell and the venom drips into his eyes once more.
In myth, it is said that Ragnarök will begin when Loki breaks free from his bondage.
Loki has been conflated with Lugh, the Irish deity due to their similar prankster and chaotic nature as well as the slight similarity of their names.
Modern Deity Work
There is no evidence that Loki had a cult or large following until modern times, so many of these correspondences, offerings, etc are going to be based on Loki’s mythology and current Lokeans’ posts.

Jörmungandr Guide
I've been posting a bit about the World Serpent and figured I should make a whole guide on him. Jörmungandr was the second deity that I began working with. And as he is a being with little information, despite having a major role in Norse myth, I find it difficult to easily devote myself to him so here's some advice for others! (Note: Most of the offerings and associations are UPG. This is what I have learned from my experience with Jörmungandr.)
Tumblr media
Name: Jörmungandr (Yor-Mun-Gan-Dur). "jǫrmun" means "vast" or "immense". "gandr" is a little uncertain in definition but generally understood to mean "magic", "wand", or "beast".
Other Names: "Miðgarðsormr" meaning "World Serpent" or "Midgard Serpent". In Skaldic poetry, he can be seen as being referred to with some variation of "Reistr Jarðar" meaning "earth-twist" or "earth-curl".
Family:
Father: Loki, The Trickster God
Mother: Angrboða, Mother of Monsters
Brother: Fenrir, He Who Dwells in the Marshes
Sister: Hel, Goddess of Death
Main Myths: Thor lifting Jörmungandr disguised as a cat, Thor's fishing trip, Ragnarök
Common Misconception: Jörmungandr is neither evil nor the cause of Ragnarök. Jörmungandr is a neutral being who is the personification of rebirth and change. He is a warning of Ragnarök beginning, not the reason. Ragnarök is a fated event, always meant to happen. It's important to note that Ragnarök is not the END but the end of the world that WE know. In the myths, there are deities, like both Odin and Thor's children, who survive and begin anew in the new world which will be repopulated. Rebirth is core to Jörmungandr and it should be noted in his myths, besides Ragnarök, it is Thor who finds Jörmungandr. Jörmungandr is described to be an ouroboros who remains wrapped around Midgard, minding his own.
Past this will be UPG(Unverified Personal Gnosis) unless marked with an *, in which case, these symbols are mentioned in his myths.
Personality: Personally, in my presence, Jörmungandr is a very intimidating being. Not because he is purposely trying to scare those who interact with him, but because he is very firm and can be distant in his words. Very forward in his wants for you, he provides advice and doesn't demand anything in turn. Jörmungandr is not one who holds your hand to guide you. He is very much a being who wants to see you take charge in life. He cares less for physical offerings and more devotional acts that are beneficial to yourself. He wants your pursuit of change, your ambitions to thrive, your pursuit of life in general. While other deities may provide a familial bond with those who work with them, Jörmungandr is very much a stoic mentor who is waiting for you to show your efforts.
What you may learn with Jörmungandr: How to set and enforce boundaries, how to be comfortable with change, how to accept change and move on, self-confidence, self-care, how to take charge of your life, learn shadow work, learn ocean magick, learn runes, healing past traumas

Flóki Vilgerðarson
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Flóki, or better known as Flóki the Boatbuilder, was a close friend of Ragnar Lothbrok and loyal to him to the end and the proud father of his little ward, his eyestar Caya and Grandfather of Illian Ivar and Marlena Caya. He built the ships for Ragnar and went with him on crossings, raids and wars. Without his technical talent, Ragnar would not have been able to make the crossings. Flóki is a descendant of the god Loki and from the beginning a proud Northman who loves the gods and whose faith in the gods is unshakable, trusts them and only acts according to their will, which is why he deeply hates the false Christian god and the Christians. At the beginning he lives far away from the village of Kattegat in a forest with his future wife Helga, builds things or just hangs around there and supports Ragnar absolutely loyally in all of his projects and takes his side against Earl Haraldsson. The boatbuilder is considered eccentric and crazy despite his cheerful, mysterious nature, but he also often appears heartless and loves chaos. Flóki went into every battle with Ragnar, loyal and determined, but as soon as something goes wrong he begins to doubt himself or withdraw completely. But as soon as he feels close to victory, he is unstoppable and takes brutal action against his enemies. Out of anger at Athelstan and his false Christian god, he kills him and is punished severely by Ragnar, which is why Flóki sees himself as a mistake and withdraws, but is still always at Ragnar's side when he needs him. Next to his daughter Angrboda, who dies, he and Helga lovingly take up a small bundle which they call Caya, the three women in his life who Flóki loves above all else, as well as Ragnar and his sons and for whom he would do anything to make them happy and, at Aslaug's request, raises Ivar on the side, whom he takes touching care of and with whom he has a particularly close relationship and cares for him. After Ragnar leaves his people and his family, Flóki takes care of Ragnar's sons, whom he always keeps an eye on, and is ready to sail with Björn. After Ragnar's death, he goes into battle with his sons to avenge his best friend. After Helga also dies, Flóki feels lost. He feels abandoned by the gods and everyone else and loses his crazy happiness, becomes bitter and serious and decides to hand himself into the hands of the gods, even if it means death. He leaves his daughter and Ragnar's sons to devote himself entirely to the sea and wherever it takes him. By chance he finds a new country which he calls Iceland and decides to settle there. In order to be able to make this place, where he feels closer to the gods than anywhere else, and to make others in it and in peace and belief in it and a cycle without revenge and murder possible, he briefly returns to Kattegat to save others for the new to gain peaceful lives there. Since the early days are difficult and hard and everyone believes in a trick by the tricky Flóki and doubts his seriousness, the attempt at a new peaceful life fails, which is why Flóki quietly and secretly leaves it to once again devote himself to the fate of the gods. So he comes across the golden land where he lives peacefully, gets along with the residents and his restless spirit finally finds peace and quiet. When he meets Ubbe there, they live there as a small community together with the others. But since he sorely misses his daughter, whom he loves more than anything else, like Ragnar's sons, and learns of the return of Ivar and Hvitserk, he decides to return with Ubbe and stay in Kattegat. For his daughter, who is sacred to him, and Ragnar's sons, whom he wants to support and settle wars and the sons' disputes in order to bring peace and make Ragnar's wish come true. However, Flóki stays out of every event, wants to be a good companion for Ragnar's sons, protect them and his daughter and live in peace without taking part in any battle. • Flóki or Flóki the boatbuilder, a true Northman, former warrior who has found peace with himself, proud father of Caya and absolutely loyal to Ragnar's sons. • Vikings.

World-breaker, harbinger of chaos, Spitting fire upon the stagnant And carving the spear of change, Teach me your courage. Cruel-striker, slanderer of the gods, Burning the inefficient and stale, Revealing potential in the ashes, Teach me your insight. Sly-walker, throwing your mischievous grin about And casting laughter into the darkness Where before there was only despair, Teach me your joy. Shape-changer, manipulator of all walks of life, Confidently adapting to every situation, Commanding the strength of any form, Teach me your cunning. Hearth-fire, warmth of my heart, Your arms a sanctuary where none is found Light and life of the home I can always return to, Teach me your nurturing. Sky-treader, ever true to your wild heart,Letting none even try to contain your spirit As free as the sky itself, Teach me your passion. Hail Loki, And thank you, my God, For everything you bring to my life.I love you so.

Honor, Worship, Work, and Devotion: My Perspective
So I wanted to readdress this topic again because I've been thinking about it a lot recently.
Previously, I defined the four as follows:
Honor: allow into your life, pay respects, don't actively pray to or ask for help in divination/magic workings Worship: same as honoring but with offerings/prayers/altars/the whole song & dance, don't actively include in divination/magic workings Work: same as worship but actively include in divination/magic workings Devotion: the most serious form of deity-mortal interaction, first/foremost, can be to one or several deities
I've also met and interacted with people who are oathbound to a deity (hi Lorelei!) but that doesn't play into my own religious practice, so I haven't included it here.
But even though I've separated them like this, that doesn't mean that it's cut and dry in reality. Various deities I worship or work with will step between the two as they feel necessary - for instance, in my previous answer, I said that I worshiped Aphrodite, but lately it's been more working with because of personal reasons. I believe my current personal breakdown would be:
Honoring: Loki, Sigyn, Angrboda, and their collective kids (who all share one altar, actually) Worship: Aine, Azura, Cernunnos, and Tehuti Work: Aphrodite Devotion: Athena
To me, devotion is a very serious matter, but that doesn't mean I haven't fucked it up. I accidentally devoted to Athena when I was young, and she's been my number one supporter while I fucked around and found out in both magical and mundane matters. That's why I often refer to her as "Mother Athena" or "Momma Athena".
Which is another thing I wanna talk about - I have a very family-oriented view of the world, so I often refer to deities as parents or other older relative figures. Cernunnos is Deer Dad; Tehuti is Uncle Tehuti; Aphrodite, Azura, and Athena are all some variation of Mom... It's my way of showing that I care deeply for them.
So...yeah. I don't have a snappy outro for this post, I just wanted to talk about the deities I care for and how I categorize things.

Imagining Egypt - Sekhmet, Details & Explanations
Once Sekhmet served Ra, her father, faithfully. She would deal out brutal punishments or miraculous healing based on her own code of judgment. Ra trusted that judgment, and for lifetimes she was left to carry out her duty under her father's approval but of her own accord.
But as the eons passed and her father grew "old" even to gods, he began to act on paranoia and impulse and started to question her judgment. Ordering her to go against her own code she'd followed unbroken since the beginning, and when faced with the choice between her father and her duty, she chose her duty.
Ra knew his daughter's strength and would not have her as an enemy, nor lose her as a weapon. And so he tore out her right eye and replaced it with one of his own, binding her to his will and his will alone.
Now, Sekhmet acts not as a goddess but as Ra's brute. Before, when she killed it was a sacred thing. Death is viewed differently in these lands, truly a new beginning. Sekhmet saw it as freeing a corrupted soul to a new land, where it may be repaired and reborn as something better. A form of healing in and of itself. Now it is carried out only to rid the world of those who defy her father, and death is suddenly a thing to be feared.
She has not healed a single soul since Ra corrupted her, she has only brought thoughtless death. For her, the abomination was not that she killed, but that she was denied her duty in the act.
The Eye of Ra
She has her father's eye in her skull. Through it, her father is able to control her actions and thoughts to conform to his own needs. It is unknown how much, if any, of Sekhmet can still see through the curse, but some say they see white-hot tears drip from the eye whenever she kills in his name.
Isis believes that Sekhmet can be saved, and if they remove the Eye from her the true Sekhmet will return.
Ra's Adornments
Sekhmet was never one for jewels before, however now, she is always seen wearing glittering, royal gold and jewels all over her body. "Gifts" from her father. The sun-disk circlet and falcon usekh collar display her alignment to him.
Belt of Hair
The rope-like belt around Sekhmet's waist was crafted by Sekhmet herself, made of dyed and woven human hair. The purpose of such a unique ornament is unknown. Some view the belt as a horrifying reminder, trophies of the defiers she's slayed. Others view the belt as a sign of her devotion, memories of her people always kept with her. Perhaps there is truth in both.
Sekhmet's Blade
Known as the Horn of Mnevis or simply Mnevis, the story goes that Sekhmet forged the sword herself in the fires of the sun. True or not before Ra's corruption the blade was always in her hand or at her hip, and she viewed it as more of a companion than a simple tool.
After her freedom from Ra she declared Mnevis cursed, forsaking it, and so the foreign god Loki took the blade as his own...
Bonus stuff:
Atreus and Angrboda are the ones that free her. They try to use a tactic of weakening her by getting her to drink a blood and beer concoction making her easier to fight. It half-works, but towards the end Sekhmet badly wounds Angrboda and Atreus goes on a Spartan-Rage frenzy. He turns into a lion and rips out the eye with his teeth :)
She nearly kills Atreus too but since he does succeed in getting the eye out she is able to access her healing again and saves both him and Angrboda.
She and Isis are besties
I imagine her sounding like Gillian Anderson as Moro in Princess Mononoke
She and Atreus do NOT get along. Nothing to do with the sword and everything to do with her immutable moral code and belief that people cannot change in life
She goes through a crisis of faith in a way as by her own code SHE now deserves death, but she knows she is needed to take down Ra, but she also believes herself unworthy of fighting at all after all she's done. I'm thinking she may have a "sickness" akin to Atreus' in the 2018 God of War and Atreus will try and find a way to make a similar "cure" for her that his father made for him.
(Basically Atreus saves her life twice even though they Cannot Fucking Stand Each Other)
She actually has two forms, this is the "War" form rather than the healing form. I might draw the healing form later, but it's basically just a regular woman. It is worth mentioning that in the war form, she is really big

Last night I was making notes for a series of rituals I’m working on for dealing with and healing trauma in my family. I was flipping through my Crystals For Healing book. The book has an index of rituals, crystals, and mediations for different situations. This one is based of on of the rituals from the book for spiritual and/or emotional cleansing and working with Loki’s family is the perfect conduit for familial healing, so I worked them both in together. The format is there. I added a bunch and changed out the mantra. I what to give credit where credit is due for the basis and format of the ritual. The book is Crystals for Healing: Remedies for mind, heart, and soul by Karen Frazier. It’s incredibly helpful and very accessible and I highly recommend it.
So here’s what was from the book:
* 1/4 cup Himalayan pink salt or sea salt in a full bathtub
* sit in bathtub and add smoky and clear quartz
*soak for 10 mins with eyes closed while repeating the mantra
*remove crystals from the tub and then drain it, remaining in the tub until the water drains out
* cleanse crystals
The mantra provided is “I fill myself with a pure cleansing white light”
(Karen Frazier does it better and there’s a bunch more good stuff in this entry. Go read it.)
I didn’t really vibe with the mantra, so I started to write my own dedicated to Loki and Sigyn and it sort of took on a life of its own. Here’s what I wrote and what I really want to share:
“May the wildfire, force of nature, God Loki of fire, Sweet Sigyn of sun, may all that no longer serves me be burned away by your love. Let your love for me and each other purify me and fill me with bright white healing light that I may love as you do. Grace of the Bowl Holder, cunning of the Trickster God, Goddess of Security, Goddess of Chaos, help me walk through this world with the healing fire of Justice tempered by the Love of all things sacred.”
I’m extra, so I added some other crystals: obsidian, hematite, rose quartz, amethyst, and pyrite/fools gold (obvi)
I also lit three candles: one for me, one for Sigyn, and one for Loki
After the bath water draining, I rinsed myself off with cold water.
It was really truly wonderful.
As I try to untangle myself from the cycles of generational trauma and the trauma that was heaped on top of it by my own parents, I want to burn like fire, but be guided by love. I don’t want to lose the scars, but I now know I no longer need to suffer. I can heal. I deserve to heal. One thing I have learned with working with Loki’s family is the depth of love and complexity there.
My family is complicated. It’s broken at every joint, all of us disconnected and hurting and traumatized in our own way. It’s a small family, but there’s a lot of pain. With Loki’s family? I have found a partner in Loki, a friend in Sigyn, a brother in Fenrir, a mother in Angrboda, and connected deeply with others devoted to these deities. That’s what healing is about. It’s about connection. I cannot try to bring healing to my own family without healing for myself.
As I continue to go deeper into this journey with this wonderful crazy beautiful family, I’ve found a safety and comfort I’ve never known in my life. I cry on my mother’s lap, I rest in my partner’s arms, I learn from my friend, I fight side-by-side with my brother and there are more I have not yet connected with. I never knew that healing on this scale, of this magnitude, was possible.
I never understood unconditional love. I fought against it in my life in this realm. My wife and I have been together nearly 8 years, married 2 1/2 and until recently, would look at her and fear that someday she will decided I am too big, too much, and she would leave. She would be one more in a long line of trauma. But she has stayed. Loki’s family has helped me understand how that’s possible. I have lived in unconditional love with my wife, but I didn’t trust it until I felt Sigyn and Loki’s hands over mine as I held the bowl over my own head and Sigyn told me that there was no distance, no where I could go that they wouldn’t find me and bring me home.
Home. Such a big and powerful word. That’s what Loki’s family is. It’s home. And that’s what I want to share, because everyone deserves a place to belong.

Devotional Poem for Ferir
Your first words to me
were more cold winter air
than howl —
softer than I imagined,
gentle almost, in the way of a tired soldier.
I clutched your figurine in a fist,
ready to fight, wanting to flee.
You answered the question that has haunted me
from the time I learned to speak.
You whispered,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
I too have watched my child’s chains
grow tighter with every struggle.
I have sat with her and wept with her,
and wept *for* her.
I too have bitten off
the hand that betrayed me.
When the storm threatened to take me,
you said to me,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
Our mother sang lullabies in my ears
when the woman who birthed me
held me down because I would not sleep.
I flung Mother’s compassion in her face,
and when my heart hardened,
You assured me,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
You, too, know what it is
to be tied down and mocked.
You, too, know what it is
to be called strong as they
spit in your face
and talk behind your back.
You, too, know what it is
to never be satisfied
with the scraps you are thrown.
You spoke to me then,
and you speak to me now,
“Some things are unbreakable —
until they are not.”
While I plot my Ragnarok,
I dream of washing their world
In fire and blood,
To break apart,
To tear down
To expose
To avenge
To bring honor to survivors.
It is by your example,
Oh, Great Wolf,
Devourer of the Sun,
Being of Darkness and Hunger.
You stand by my side and shake yourself,
blood rushing back into your limbs
And with a growl, baring teeth
longing to tear
into traitorous throats,
You snarl,
“Come, brother,
We have work to do.”

Hel Deity Guide
Tumblr media
Who is Hel?
Often referred to as a “goddess of death”, Hel is actually the ruler who presides over the dead. Her domain is the underworld, also called Hel (or Helheim). She is often described in text as cruel or cold, not uncommon for a deity that deals with death. This may not represent the experience that those who work with Hel have had, please keep in mind that deities are not solely their mythology.
Parents and Siblings
Loki (father)
Angrboda (mother)
Fenrir (brother)
Jörmungand (brother)
Sleipnir (brother)
Lovers or Partners
N/A
Children
N/A
Epithets
While modern pagans may have epithets for her, there is no historical Epithet for Hel that I have found.
Notes
The Aesir were told that Loki’s three children would cause destruction one day. To combat this, Odin threw Hel into Helheim where she crowned herself queen and made it into her realm.
Her appearance is said to be that of a woman who looks half human and half blue like a corpse.
Some think that Helheim, the underworld, came first and Hel as a goddess became a later development or personification of said place.
It’s important to note that Helheim is not a place of punishment or torture—but that doesn’t mean it’s particularly pleasant.
Hel’s most popular story is The Death of Baldr, in which she refuses to allow Baldr to leave Hel unless every last creature on earth weeps for him. Every being except one giantess (who people believe to be Loki in disguise) cried, but since the terms were not fully met, Baldr remained in Hel.
Her name means “hidden”, referencing those who are dead and invisible to the living.
Many scholars believe that the deity Hel is a creation of the Christian mythographer, Snorri Sturluson.
Since she is the daughter of Loki (a half-giant) and Angrboda (a giantess), Hel is also probably a giantess or jötunn.
Modern Deity Work
Since there is no evidence of a pre-Christian Goddess Hel of the dead, there are no true historical offerings or correspondences that I can write here. Everything in the section will be based either on Hel’s myths or resourced from posts about her from her followers and devotees.
Correspondences
Since there is no historical evidence of a cult or worship for Hel, these correspondences come from her myths and from posts from her followers. These are only some possible correspondences, if you feel that there are others then feel free to add them in a comment or reblog!

people have been sharing their gow ocs so i thought i'd share one based off of sigyn from the myths!
i cant draw art so i will never have art of her ;-;
but!!
one day during his solo journey, atreus wanders to greece, sensing a handful of them located within the lands. he doesn't know it's greece when he gets there, and finds himself in a land so full of nature and life and heat that it competes with his home. there are trees and forests and streams and rivers and the ocean is bountiful.
while wandering in one of these forests one day he comes upon the ruins of an old temple, clearly devoted to an old goddess. she has sad eyes that are filled with wisdom, and she is beautiful.
that's when he meets a wood nymph, her skin made of bark, antler branches sprout from her head adorned with leaves of all colors. she has animal like eyes and a nose like a cat, and while her skin is rough and hard, she is kind, gentle and patient. at first, atreus can't understand her, until he learns greek. he tells her his name, and she tells her his, "sigyn".
sigyn is the nymph of the forest atreus had wandered into, and she tells him the temple he'd found had once been erected for athena, the dead goddess of wisdom. she shows him her forest and the life within it, including the olive trees she's grown to peak health.
then, he asks her if she has seen any of the marbles and shows them to her. she says yes, and will give them to him if he agrees to check on her parent on the other side of greece, because she cannot leave her forest. he agrees and meets thetis, sigyn's mother.
more things happen, but in the end, sigyn and atreus end up close, and she wants to travel with him. but to do so is dangerous for her, because atreus will have to carry her heart with them until they can find another forest wherever they go so she stay with him.
eventually, after tiring after this long and painful process for her, atreus decides to try and root her heart within the yggdrasil, so then no matter where and which of the nine realms she is in, she is still with her "forest". it works, but her wood skin darkens into purple and her leaves grow to match that of the yggdrasil's. she ends up with the ability to travel throughout the realms with the swipe of her hand, and can travel with atreus to her heart's content
just a silly little idea i had of how she could be fit in. her and angrboda become best friends, and kratos loves her because she brings him olives lol.

(It might just be that I'm suddenly in a sappy, fluffy mood but I wanted to write something with Atreboda as adults and grandfather Kratos 🥺)
Atreus and Angrboda nervously stood in front of Kratos' home in Midgard, their infant daughter Hel wrapped securely in a soft blanket. The new parents' hearts raced with anticipation as they are going to introduce their precious little one to Kratos.
When they walked through the door, something seemed to shift in the air. Kratos was sitting in his usual spot by the fire, but as soon as he caught sight of Hel, his eyes grew wide with wonder and awe.
At first, no one spoke. The only sound was the soft cooing of the baby in Angrboda's arms. But then, slowly, Kratos rose from his seat and approached his son and daughter-in-law. Without a word, he reached out and gently touched Hel's tiny hand.
Kratos looked upon his new family with a sense of pride he had never felt before. He had watched Atreus grow into a strong and honorable man, and now seeing him as a father, Kratos couldn't help but feel emotional. Little Hel reminded him so much of Atreus when he was once that small and fragile.
As Hel's tiny hand reached out towards her grandfather, Kratos leaned down and cradled the infant in his arms. He felt a wave of warmth spread through his heart at the sight of her wide-eyed innocence.
'Welcome to the family, little one.' Kratos whispered, kissing Hel's forehead gently.
Atreus and Angrboda watched on with tears in their eyes as the fierce and intimidating warrior was now reduced to mush by their daughter's mere presence.
As they sat around the fire, Atreus and Angrboda recounted the story of Hel's birth. They spoke of the pain and fear they felt during the delivery, but also of the overwhelming love they felt when they first laid eyes on their precious daughter. Kratos listened intently, his heart swelling with pride and joy as he looked at his son and daughter-in-law. He couldn't believe how far Atreus and Angrboda had come since they set out on their journey together all those years ago.
As the evening drew to a close and it was time for the new family to depart, Kratos pulled Atreus into a tight hug and spoke to him quietly.
'My son... Words are not enough to describe how truly proud I feel.' Kratos said, his voice filled with emotion. 'You have not only become a great warrior, but a loving husband to your wife and a devoted father to your child. I will always be here for you and your family. No matter what.'
Atreus hugged his father back, feeling a rush of love and gratitude for everything Kratos had done for him throughout his life. Kratos also embraced Angbroda, his dearest daughter-in-law, whom he has grown very fond of. He is glad to have her in the family.
And as they finally parted ways, Kratos watched with a smile as Atreus, Angrboda, and little Hel walked away, looking forward to the many beautiful years of love, happiness, and adventure that lay ahead.
Anon. You 🥺 🥺 🥺  This is super adorable.

I was thinking about how due to Tolkien's love of Norse Mythology there are some obvious similarities between Loki and Sauron. That got me thinking about what Norse mythological would fit Galadriel? Obviously, her Christian parallel is the Virgin Mary. After much thought, I think she reminds me of the Vanir goddess Freya ("Lady"). Freya was not only the goddess of beauty and fertility, but also Queen of the Valkyries, and associated with death. She is much of a fierce warrior as she is a divine beauty. She is the Goddess of Magic, specifically, "seidr," a femme-centered magic that involved shamanism, weaving spells, healing, and manipulating fate. Apparently, Freya taught Odin seidr, leading to him having genderfluid aspects, same as Loki. It should also be noted that while physical descriptions of Freya are rare, some scholars have claimed she was supposed to be a blonde (like Gal), redhead, or strawberry blonde. She was definitely noted for her independence, pride, and having a missing husband, Od (possibly an aspect of Odin). She had her own domain and hall, Sessrumnir, resembling how Gal rules Lotherien in her own right. She also had lovers (Haladriel?), and a close relationship with her twin brother, Freyr (reminds me of Finrod).
I've thought about Loki and Sauron being similar (and since I'm also a huge fan of Loki, especially Tom Hiddleston's version) many times!!! 😀 This is going to be a long post but have been meaning to write this at some point. Tolkien was hugely inspired by Norse myth for LOTR and Middle Earth so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Loki was an inspiration for Sauron. Plus, in the myths Loki also had reddish hair and green eyes so there's a connection between that and "Rings of Power" with the Halbrand form of Sauron. LOL 😏 Marvel too has added so much to Loki in both the comics and the MCU. I realized watching the "Loki" series and the films that he's gotten the redemption arc that many of us have given Halbrand/Sauron in our fics and I'm even more excited for tonight's season 2 finale of "Loki" and what might be coming for the films. It seems like what I wish could happen for Halbrand/Sauron is happening with Loki, including a Haladriel like ship with Loki and Sylvie.
That's a great comparison for Galadriel too. She does fit a lot with Freya. I've read multiple versions of Norse myth, especially Neil Gaiman's and Tolkien wrote his own too which I plan to read soon, and I can see it. Will point out too there's long been a theory in Norse myth that Freya and Frigg (Frigga in Marvel) are the same person and she had a split personality with each version. Frigg is Odin's wife (and Thor and Loki's mom in Marvel) and that queenly part of her fits there too.
Also I feel like Galadriel could also be a mashup of both of Loki's wives. His first wife Angrboda was a Jotun (frost giant in Marvel), a power being that Loki was also half as he was also half Asgardian. Angrboda is also a powerful witch and was the mother of Loki's 3 oldest children: Fenris the Wolf, Jorm the world serpent, and Hela the goddess of Hel (played by Cate Blanchett, the other Galadriel in the MCU but switched to be Odin's daughter and Thor and Loki's sister). When Loki became a god and joined Odin he left them to start his new life and their marriage ended.
Then his 2nd wife Sigyn is actually who I normally ship Loki with both in Norse mythology and Marvel (except the MCU as it seems like they merged his wives and his other Marvel love interest Amora/Enchantress into Sylvie as a mashup character even though Sylvie is also another universe's Loki LOL). Sigyn is normally drawn as being a blonde or red haired Asguardian and she's devoted to him even though in Marvel Comics' version he tricked her into marrying him by pretending to be her fiancé and she still fell in love with him after that. LOL (And I've seen Haladriel fics with this exact storyline.) She ends up becoming the Goddess of Fidelity to his God of Mischief (or Stories as he becomes this redemptive form in Marvel and maybe soon in the MCU depending on tonight's finale and it reminds me of Mairon). In the Marvel comics he also teaches her to become a sorceress. They also have two sons together though depending on the story one or both die tragically (which reminds me of Celebrian), and one is a werewolf.
So yeah I see so much of Norse mythology in Tolkien's work and it's fun to piece all the inspirations together like this. Plus, I'm getting 3 new romance and non-romance novels about Loki with Angrboda, Sigyn, and Amora soon and whatever that new Marvel novel out next year "What if Loki was Worthy?" too so more to read and compare soon.
ETA: I've taken out the tags that relate to Loki and the other Norse mythology characters as I got hate directed towards me from fellow "Loki" fans all because a lot of them don't like what Marvel and the show has done. Just wanted it to go in my blog's tags so it's easier to find and organized but kept the "ROP" related tags since we were talking about that originally as it relates more to Sauron and Galadriel.

Do you understand yet?
"With Angrboda [Sorrow Bringer], an ogress who lived in Giant Land, Loki had three children." Snorri Sturluson. The Prose Edda. Translated by Jesse Byock.
Genevieve Gornichec has taken a single mention of a name and devoted a novel to discovering who Angrboda is. The Witch's Heart is a wonderful retelling of the Norse myths that includes all the well know stories but comes at it from a different angle. You know that the world will inevitably end in flames but on the way we accompany Angrboda on her search for her self.
The contemporary language surprised me at the start but it worked well. No anachronisms but the causal dialog added to the interpersonal relationships. I guess my expectation is anything slightly historical has to be written with formal language, and this book just proved me wrong in the best of ways.
