Script:

[Annette and Kel are sitting on the porch of Kel's cabin. It's a peaceful evening.] Annette: "There was this girl I liked in college."

Kel, smiling: "Oh?"

Annette: "She was out of my league, but hey, I could dream..."

[Kel laughs.]

Annette, smiling wistfully: "I thought of her a lot when I was kidnapped. Her laugh...her loopy handwriting...her earrings...but, after so many months in pain bacm there, I forgot her face. I still can't picture it."

Annette, hunched over dejectedly: "I swear, my brain keeps thinking of things to be upset about."

Kel: "You know..."

[An image of a younger Kel and a man laughing at a bar.] Kel: "Back when I was in the service, I met a guy there. I rather suspected our handler had set us up, heh.

He went on his mission, I went on mine...and he never got to come back. I never knew his real name. That's just how we worked: without a trace."

[An image of Kel standing in front of the Central Intelligence Agency's Memorial Wall.] Kel: "The only proof of his life and death, save for the knowledge of a few people in the agency, was the hurt I carried for him. Parting with that pain was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

When there is nothing to bury, when any physical wounds have healed, when those at fault go free -- we cling to anything that'll prove that the trauma was there."

[Back to the cabin setting in the present day.] Kel: "And we gotta give ourselves grace for that...just like we gotta give ourselves grace for letting go.

Of course, I'm no psychologist, so take that with a grain of -- "

[Annette leans her head on Kel's shoulder, surprising her.] Annette: "Thank you."

Kel: ... "You're welcome, Annette."

We tried to draw The Them for the first time and WOW for guys that have circles for heads they sure are hard to draw. Mostly this was to show off our daycare staff OCs though!

From left to right they're Jaime (security), Mal (assistant), and Annette (technician)! We wanna write a fic for them but have no idea where to start, uh...

( By the way, Jaime and Mal were inspired by a couple of reader-insert fics, "Dayshift, Go Figure" and "Solar Lunacy"! )

I took a ‘what Dungeons & Dragons class would you be?’ quiz and got (accurately) diagnosed with theater kid bard, so here’s me as a half-elf bard with a pet anteater! this was such a fun design to figure out and draw, and I had a lot of fun figuring out how I’d avoid the traditional “horny bard” tropes in both my roleplay and character design. I put some loose backstory ideas and ‘lore’ under the cut if anybody wants it.

I think I’m naming this character/version of me Annette! following the logic that this is supposed to be Literally Me as a D&D character (and ignoring for a moment that my group is abandoning 5E as soon as we possibly can), I figure I’d be a College of Glamor bard with a lot of theater kid/shameless enabler energy. I hate the horny bard stereotype a lot, so I figured I’d go with the ‘aspiring celebrity’ angle instead: irl my mom was a voice major focusing on opera and had a brief singing career, so I figure in-universe she’s an elf and a famous opera singer who founded a bard college. once I graduated I became an adventurer as soon as I possibly could, wanting to get out of her shadow and be famous for being me, not for being her daughter. I don’t play an instrument but I sing and use an enchanted conductor’s wand to create music to accompany myself, when I’m not using the wand as a focus for my spells! my anteater’s name is Imogene and whether her star pattern is an illusion or not is none of your business, thank you! I think the magical sigils produced by the baton can also create a magical dagger or sword for self-defense, and swinging the blade also causes fight scene music to play from nowhere. also yeah I stole the big poofy coat look from One Piece and I’d do it again.
