An Ice Cream Cake?

“Well, as much as it hurt me to do this…I got your cheeseburger and fries. And the pink lemonade you wanted.” He sighs, setting down the bag.

You wrap your arms around him as much as your new bump allows, having ‘popped’ a few weeks ago. Baby Herbert was definitely making their presence known and you both have been trying to get used to it. “Thank you for putting aside your disdain for In N’ Out for me. I know it must’ve been really hard.” You soothingly ran a hand along his back as he smiled at your joke.

“Only because I love our baby and that’s what the two of you were craving. Doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it.” You laugh as he shakes his head in disappointment.

The offseason has always been more special. You get to see Justin more and actually spend time together instead of seeing glimpses of him either on his way to the facility or on his way to the home office to watch film. But this offseason was even more special because it would be the last one before the two of you became parents. There was so much uncertainty though. What kind of mother were you going to be? The good cop or bad cop? What about your privacy? It was nice now because you were back in Oregon and no one bothered you here, but would that change when training camp rolled around in two months? And what if—

“Babe? Did you hear what I said?” Justin asks, pulling you out of your trance. You shook your head no and took a bite of your food, waiting for him to repeat himself. “Where’d you go just now? What are you thinking about?”

You offer him a fry that he happily accepts as he sits down next to you, placing a hand on your leg. “I’m thinking about how we’re going to be in charge of an entire human being for the rest of our lives. We’re gonna have to protect them and guide them through life and…potty train them. Justin, how are we supposed to teach a child to use the bathroom and—don’t laugh,” you tell him, even though you’re holding yours in. “How are you so calm about this?”

He takes ahold of one of your hands. “You know why I’m not worried? Because I know that you’re going to be an amazing mom. This baby and all future Herbabies are so unbelievably lucky to have you.”

You snort. “Did you really just say Herbabies?”

“Yeah, that was bad,” he sighs, “I knew it was terrible the second it came out of my mouth. But you get what I mean.” He shrugs nonchalantly, secretly proud of himself because he knows he just got you out of your head.

“I do,” you giggle, shaking your head at him. “Terrible dad joke aside, I needed that. I think the cake I picked up today just made it feel more real.”

Earlier in the day you’d picked up the little gender reveal cake for you and Justin to cut into. The idea of having an entire gathering with phones and a potential invasion of privacy did not sound like the best idea. So you and your husband decided to make it a moment just between the two of you.

Not to say you’d been thinking about it all day but…you’d been thinking about it all day.

Silence washed over you as you were about to get up to throw away your trash, but Justin stopped you and did it himself. You were starting to wonder if you’d ever lift a finger again.

Not that you were complaining.

He stood across from you at the kitchen counter, tapping his fingers on the marble. “Can we please cut this cake? The suspense is killing me.”

Rolling your eyes, you stood up to grab the cake out of the freezer, Justin’s eyes going wide.

“You bought an ice cream cake?” He sounded like a little kid, his smile reaching his ears with the dimple in all of its glory. You hoped your baby would have one too.

“It’s mint chocolate chip too.”

He lets out a deep breath and lets out a hum…looking right at the cake.

You clear your throat with a laugh, “should I give you two a minute?”

“No, we're good. Let’s do this.”

With his shaky hand enclasped in yours, you sliced into the cake together.

After you set down the knife Justin delicately tilts your chin up to pull you in for a kiss. His lips touch yours with so much love and tenderness that you almost feel weak in the knees. You return the gesture with as much intensity as you can muster up, all of the emotions wrapped up in this moment were hitting you both at once. The nerves you had earlier, to the joy that is now filling the entire room take your breath away and you pull back from the kiss, staring into his glossy eyes.

He wipes at his eyes with a wet laugh, still in disbelief—until he remembers the ice cream cake.

“We should probably have some of this before it completely melts. Do you and baby girl want a little slice or a big slice?”

“A little slice please.”

“One little slice, coming right up.”

He was going to be a girl dad and he couldn’t wait.

Bada feels like she's gonna lose her mind as more people want your attention. Unbeknownst to many, Bada has been pursuing you even before Street Woman Fighter. She didn't know you were gonna be in the competition as well until it was revealed that you're the final member for Jam Republic. She initially thought that it was a blessing in disguise since you're gonna be working on the same set but it was the complete opposite. You're this pretty goddess and everyone wants to be the one receiving your love and affection. You were shipped to almost every single dancer in the competition, especially to Haechi and Chocol that made Bada even more pissed off. Then the Chili challenge came to play that skyrocketed your fame even further. Idols both male and female began flirting with you since they saw how well you danced. Especially when you did Kirsten's part on one promotional video since Kirsten had to attend to something and it had everyone losing their minds as they saw your prowess in dancing.

"Hey.. What's wrong? You seem like you're mad at me.." you approached Bada one time since you noticed Bada has been more pissed off. Well team Bebe told you since you're good friends with them.

"I'm not mad at you, Y/N.." Bada said a bit coldly that made you frown and cross your arms over your chest. Yup, you know something's wrong since Bada doesn't talk to you that way.

"Okay. What the hell is wrong with you? You've been acting all pissed off not only to your members and me but you're also acting so hostile towards Haechi and Chocol. Like I get this is a competition Bada but what the fuck?? This isn't like you at all!" you finally exploded and Bada looked at you, shocked at your outburst. She didn't expect that at all and now that you did, she just realized how much she fucked up. Not only with you but her team as well. She's not too sorry about Chocol and Haechi though since they're competitions. They've been flirting with you openly and it pissed Bada off.

"I'm sorry, Y/N.. I didn't mean to. I just get so pissed off seeing everyone flirting with you, seeing how everyone wants you and all that. I'm not your girlfriend, you're not my girlfriend but fuck, I don't want to see you with somebody else.." she finally admitted and you stood there, stunned before you sighed and smacked her on the arm. Bada can be the cure for your headaches but right now she's the cause of it.

"Oh my god, Bada.. Sometimes you're so unbelievable.." you groaned and went back to your crew since filming is about to begin. Bada watched you walk away, cursing herself mentally because she fucked up big time.

The next few days, Bada has been bringing you coffee, texting you a lot, giving you snacks and lunch, even sending flowers to your team's room which made your teammates tease you, especially Latrice and Ling who took photo evidence of everything and compiled it on the group chat you have with the team.

"Bada is down bad for Y/N and it's just the best. Like who the hell would send coffee, milk tea and foods like it's a routine?? She even gets flowers every single day. Like girl, what??" Emma comments and the other girls laughed, agreeing with Emma. You just received a delivery for lunch and your favorite milk tea order.

"How long has she been pursuing you?? The amount of dedication Bada has for you is making all of us jealous like for real." Audrey asked and you began counting on your fingers. You just realized that Bada's been trying her best for the last eight months to date you. She's very consistent with her efforts, except when she was in her jealous phase that it dropped a little bit but still she made efforts for you, unlike the men flirting with you on your instagram that couldn't even be bothered with meeting you or visiting you on set unless they're promised a fun night.

"Close to nine months now.. I honestly am confused. I want to give us a chance, not gonna deny that but we're competing with each other, ya know? I don't want to start a mess or complicate things between us. Between Team Bebe and Jam Republic." you pouted and sat down on the couch where the team just hugged you, understanding what you're going through.

"Y/N, honey.. I know how professional you are and how professional Bada is. I know both of you won't let your relationship come between the competition. If you really want to date her, that's completely okay. What's between you and her will be kept in private until both of you are comfortable sharing it with everyone else." Kirsten says and you hugged her tight, thanking her for understanding your situation and understanding your fears. You're very lucky to have the girls since they provide great comfort and provides the best advices.

You thought about it over and over again until you finally made up your mind. You messaged Bada to meet you at a café. You wanted to talk to her about the real score between you. You didn't want her to think that you're just leading her on while flirting with other people behind her back. You wanted to be clear with her, wanted to be clear with your feelings.

"Hey Y/N.." Bada greets and you smiled at her. You already ordered her favorite drink that got her beaming from happiness, even taking a picture of it to send to her team as she's really happy you remembered her favorite order.

"Hey Bada.. Look, I'm really sorry for how I acted when we last talked to each other. I didn't think about how you felt at all and just thought about myself and I'm really sorry for that. It's your right to be jealous.." you started and Bada reached to hold your hand across the table and gave it a gentle squeeze.

"It's okay, Y/N. I don't have any right to be jealous about people flirting with you since I'm not your girlfriend, you're clearly not mine.. Plus I did deserve those words. Snapped me back to reality which is much needed." Bada tried to laugh it off and you sighed, intertwining your fingers together.

"But you are my girlfriend. Well now, you are. Starting today, we're now girlfriends." you said and her eyes widened in shock and she looked at you like you just invented something really cool.

"Are you serious right now?? I'm not dreaming or hallucinating, right? Like all of this are real?" Bada asked, just wanting to check if her mind's not playing tricks on her. She has waited for this moment for almost nine months now.

"Nope. It's all real. We're girlfriends now whether you like it or not." you confirmed and a grin made its way to her face before she got up, hugging you from your seat and kissing you all over the face as she's just way too happy about what just happened.

"I swear you just made my whole year.. Thank you, Y/N.. I swear to you that you wouldn't regret anything." she says as she finally calmed down a bit. You just smiled and pulled her in for a sweet kiss. You love your goofy and sometimes jealous girlfriend.

It’s Play Time!

[TWST AU]: An MC/Yuu from the Indie Horror Game, Poppy Playtime.

[Synopsis]: In this timeline, a special little toy takes on an adventure through Twisted Wonderland.

Gender Neutral MC/Yuu (They/Them)

[(A/N)]: I saw someone mentioned the game mixed with an MC/Yuu. I’m writing my own interpretation as an AU and basing some from theory videos on YouTube. Credits goes to the anon on @/twistedoverbloat’s blog.

Back in their world, MC/Yuu was one of many researchers and other scientists working for Playtime Co.’s founder/creator/CEO, Elliot Ludwig.

They had an accident at the lab, causing them to be unconscious. MC/Yuu should have be taken to the hospital, but Ludwig and everyone decided to use their body for experiments; turning into a living toy as the size of Poppy.

This pushed them off the edge and decided to escape the lab so they can turn themselves in to the police and hopefully an investigation starts and prevent more experiments.

Then one day at the factory, Experiment 1006 escaped and caused a massacre. Since then, the factory was left abandoned with haunting memories.

After decades of being trapped within the factory’s walls, PP!MC/Yuu roamed through the halls, avoiding the other experiments as they’re on the loose. (They can also recognize them as one of the people working on the toys.) Of course they missed a step and fell into the abyss.

Waking up, they found themselves trapped in a coffin until Grim blows open the lid. They both scared each other.

“Unbelievable. An actual talking cat.”

“Who ya callin’ a cat, doll-face?!”

“Hey! It’s not my fault I got stuck in this body! I never ask for it!”

Then Crowley came to find the missing students. PP!MC/Yuu and Grim hid behind the coffin, waited for “that strange bird-man” to leave.

After he leaves, the two decided to follow him.

They were led to the a room filled with people in dark cloaks.

Just as Crowley was informing the Dark Mirror about the absent student, PP!MC/Yuu decides to speaks up.

“Excuse me! I think you’re looking for either one of us.”

Everyone looks down at the living toy.

“I know what you’re thinking. It seems weird to witness a living child’s toy and to be honest, I don’t know how you will react to me standing before you.”

Dead silence. Not a word spoken until Crowley breaks the tension.

“Are you supposed to be the missing student?”

“A student? I already graduated from my university. Honestly, where am I and how I got here?”

After the dorm sorting ceremony, Crowley kept asking PP!MC/Yuu with more questions.

“You’re telling me, I’m stuck in this world filled with magic? Like real magic?”

“Well, Night Raven College is one of the most prestigious academies in Twisted Wonderland.”

“…So like H*gw*arts?”

“What?”

Then after the misunderstanding is cleared up, Crowley “promised” to find their way back home. Until then, it seems PP!MC/Yuu has to stay in the Ramshackle dorm and might as well find a way to survive attending NRC.

Bonus: PP!MC/Yuu wants to keep Grim by their side as a student too because…

PP!MC/Yuu: He has nowhere else to go. Pleeeease let him stay. *Activates big teary puppy eyes*

Crowley: *Can’t resist the eyes* Fine, fine! That raccoon will stay.

Ace: *Laughing at PP!MC/Yuu* You’re so small!

[PP!MC/Yuu was telling stories of their old life.]

PP!MC/Yuu: I was an 90s kid. I remember one toy that gave me the creeps. Her huge hyper-realism eyes and stretchy limbs. Oh god, she’s nightmare fuel. When I started working at the company’s labs, my instincts were right after seeing the living being of childhood trauma.

Grim: Are ya gonna eat that? *Points at their food*

PP!MC/Yuu: You can have it. I don’t have to eat to survive as my digestive system is wired differently.

Deuce: So you never tried leaving your workplace?

PP!MC/Yuu: I have, but they caught me every single time. The final attempt was on the day one experiment escaped. I’ll never forget the screams of the co-workers.

Ace: *Lost his appetite* Did you have to tell these stories during lunch?

PP!MC/Yuu: *Shrugs* You were curious about my life before coming here, so yeah.

[Alchemy Class]

PP!MC/Yuu: *Brews the exact potion*

Crewel: Good job, puppy. You brew the correct potion for today’s assignment.

PP!MC/Yuu: Oh, it’s nothing. I was a researcher back home so it was easy to start. Especially familiarizing herbs.

Grim: Yahoo! We did it! *His tail swished accidentally knocks them off*

PP!MC/Yuu: AHH-! *Falls into the cauldron*

Crewel: *Sighs* I will start brewing a reversal potion.

[In the hallways]

PP!MC/Yuu: Listen here you…I can’t talk like this. Can someone pick me up?

Cheka: *Sniffs and looks down* Hm?

PP!MC/Yuu: ‘It seems he’s calming down.’ I’m MC/Yuu. You look very sad. Tell me why you’re crying and maybe I can help you.

Cheka: *SNIFFS* I-I got lost and can’t find Oji-tan… *Tearing up again*

PP!MC/Yuu: ‘Oji-tan?’ Oh! Don’t cry anymore, little one. I see you’re looking for someone. Could you tell me who is the person you’re supposed to be with? Like hair color, eye color, or other features.

so without further ado, here is her short list of recs copied straight from her (and with my own comments in italics for the ones i know):

Okay! So here’s my book recommendations.

- Fingersmith by Sarah Waters. Loved this book, love all Sarah’s books (haven’t read the non-gay one though, sorry not sorry). Sarah is a great one for the twists and I enjoyed this one so much that I actually recommended the book to my mam and she also loved it. The story is gay + set in the 19th century + lady/handmaiden trope so what’s not to like. Also really recommend. For related media, there’s a BBC miniseries based off of it, and a film by Park Chan-wook called The Handmaiden, which is honest to god one of the best films ever made. It is harrowing, but it is brilliant.

- Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters. Again, gay + set in the 19th century. Explores the queer scene in Victorian London to its full extent. A real page turner. GREAT fun, a little dark at points, but good and raunchy.

- The Paying Guests by Sarah Waters. Gay + 1920s + yearning + tense + murder + dramatic. My recommendation when it comes to Sarah’s books is to give them time. Do not put them down because I promise you they will get GOOD.  Slowburn of slowburns. Gorgeous.

- Affinity by Sarah Waters. Gay + Victorian prison + disgraced spiritualist. Compared to the other three this one is actually a little bit… boring? You’re kinda waiting for something to happen for a long time but WHEN IT DOES boy is it worth it. And that part that’s worth waiting for actually made me want to read it again.

- The Night Watch by Sarah Waters. This was a bit like Affinity for me in that I was waiting for it to pick up a bit but once again, Sarah did not disappoint and I finished it wanting to read it again. The story is told backwards through third-person narrative, takes place in 1940s London during and after WWII and follows ‘Kay, Helen and Julia, three lesbians; Viv, a straight woman; and Duncan, her brother, whose sexuality is ambiguous.’

- One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston. This was my favourite book of 2021 because I read it as a baby gay and it’s set in modern times and is so full of life and found family and fun but also considers life for gay people in the 1970s and things that they didn’t often get to experience (loudly, at least). It tugged at my heart this one. For the “sort by top kudos” “filter for fluff” fanfic reader. Not really my style.

- This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. This is the most beautiful book I’ve ever read. As Madeline Miller said, ‘this book has it all: treachery and love, lyricism and gritty action, existential crisis and space-opera scope, not to mention time travelling superagents.’ This story is truly gorgeous. Unbelievable. Not even words to describe how good this one in. Possibly my favourite read of all time.

- Afterlove by Tanya Byrne. This book made me cry! In…a good way? I’m not sure. But I enjoyed it. Set in modern day when MC dies and joins ‘a clan of fierce girl reapers who take the souls of the city’s dead to await their fate’ but can’t forget her first love who she’ll do anything to see again. This one just tugged at my heart a lot.

- Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon. Epic fantasy. Dragons. Follows many characters in GoT style so it requires A LOT of focus. This isn’t a light read but it’s very good (and a prequel is coming out in 2023). IF YOU LIKE FANTASY AT ALL READ THIS ONE IMMEDIATELY.

- Annie on my Mind by Nancy Garden. Okay this one will definitely not be the most well-written book you’ve ever read buuuuut there’s something VERY precious about it. It follows the relationship between two 17-year-old girls, Annie and Liza, in New York. As far as I know, when this book was published in 1982, it became the first YA novel ever to depict a main character’s same-sex relationship in a positive light. (In the 90s copies of this book were burned on the steps of a school in Kansas and there was a whole court case about it).

- Gideon the Ninth, Harrow the Ninth and Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir. Oh these are great. I was about 100 pages in to the first two before I could grasp what was going on but the story is intriguing, the characters are great, there’s good humour, and the world is fascinating. The first one, Gideon, is almost like Hunger Games meets Cluedo. I’d highly recommend these and I can’t wait until my gf reads them so I can talk to her about them.

- Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour. This one is a nice, light read. MC is interning as a set designer so I found this aspect of it really interesting actually. Has some mystery, some gay love, so like why not read it.

- Matrix by Lauren Groff. ‘Born from a long line of female warriors and crusaders, and cast out from the royal court, Marie is sent to become the prioress of an abbey.’ This is a bit of a dreary, grey read (probably due to the setting and period, think Wuthering Heights), but there was something about it that fascinated me and kept drawing me back in.

- The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth. Lesbian rom-com set in modern Ireland. Very light, easy read (with some serious topics too).

- Not my Problem by Ciara Smyth. Again, a very light and easy read for the most part, with a touch on some heavier issues. Quite funny too!

- Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. Set in 1950s America and tells the story of Lily Hu, a teenage daughter of Chinese immigrants as she begins to explore her sexuality. This time period was really interesting and the incorporation of Chinese culture into the story was something I hadn’t read before.

Hi! I saw the former gw*nriel confession and I always thought I was the only one and it felt like a bad thing. Last August a friend told me to read ACOSF alone. I am not really a big fan of a long series and prefer stand alone and my friend said that ACOSF can be a stand alone. So I did picked it. And honestly, I don't feel any connection to the characters but I still didn't like the whole Inner Circle, the sisters, but Elain and Az's interaction, no matter how few, made me think there's something between them especially the "charged glance". Look, I like Gwyn and I don't feel a thing towards Elain during ACOSF so Elriel interaction kinda made me doubt Gw*nriel because honestly, Elriel is more heavily hinted tho I wouldn't deny Gwyn and Az's moment. I was then told to read the bonus chapter because it only "confirmed" Gw*nriel more but it made me doubt the ship further but I believed in the secondhand necklace. I believed they were mates. I actually led myself to believe they will have the next book and hated Elriel due to the brewing ship war.

But thankfully I was led to light. I began Acotar, acomaf, acowar last September and just finished ACOFAS last week. Hahaha yey for me I guess because I now love Feysand, Elriel, and Cassian. I finally understood where Elriels are getting their quotes and why everyone hold importance to canon scene because lies and headcanons are given more value in this fandom and I think that's what divides and creates this messy and toxic shipwar in the fandom. Gw*nriel will now always be a crackship for me and there's nothing wrong for crackships. But I am officially an Elriel who are just waiting for their book.

PS: I didn't know Elain actually did alot of things in the series, I'm so sorry to other Elriels since I also thought she was just there in the background doing nothing. How Cassian, Rhysand, Amren and Az saw Elain made me happy. Because they are all right. I'm sorry this is long.

This is actually a very interesting and I think important thing to understand--I think so much frustration on part of Elriels, and the essence of this shipwar lies in that Elriels have been with these characters for 4 books. 5 now. Whereas from what we've noticed, many Gwynriels read only ACOSF, if that.

And all the canon-based arguments and 'evidence' usually went over people's heads, because they couldn't connect the dots, since they didn't have any reference points for previous books.

So I can quote 20 pages worth of stuff regarding Elriel, but if you haven't read any of the previous books, can't understand the setup, how everything unfolded, then it would just be noise to you.

And I think that's why ultimately, the arguments make no real sense--we are talking about apples, and Gwynriels are talking about matches. There is no common ground because so many don't know anything beyond ACOSF, don't understand the IC, don't know who and what Elain is and what she did, and how everything connects.

So they start placing unbelievable importance on gwyn and stating that Azriel is getting a book. But if you look at the entire landscape of these books, you'd understand that none of it makes sense, and that the only natural progression is through Elain, because she is literally connected to EVERY part of these books. Every scene. Every person. From Koschei, to Lucien, to Vassa, to Beron, to every person in the IC, to the Cauldron--Elain is entwined with all of them. By comparison, Gwyn is entwined with no one except for Nesta. She might be a lighsinger and a secondary character in Nesta's book.

I'm glad you got to read all the books, Anon. It definitely is a series, and needs to be looked at holistically.

YES LITERALLY!!! i remember real early in the EU leg when we realized that not only was every setlist noticeably different but they were playing deep cuts?? the whole band but especially frank has been sooo adamant that this isn't a reunion tour and they're not just trying to play all the big hits one after another and leave. even if we as fans don't know the exact context behind why each song was chosen and why they were put in a specific order it doesn't even matter because the love poured into each one comes through regardless. and you can see in how they interact with fans that they understand what all this means to us from gerard always letting the crowd do the bridge in mama to their reactions to seeing trans flags in the pit. long story short I love frank badly and I need to bend his sentimental ass over

She showed me how to groom them (and then let me go nuts with a brush too!) and we discussed potential future options re: me buying a dog from her (as I'm not in a place to yet but By God I Will Be Eventually), and I think we have the foundation of a solid relationship. this made my day omg im so happy you got to meet some collies! i pretty much did the same process as you, i wasn't ready to buy a dog yet but i met stellina's breeder at a show a good year before i ever got her, and we chatted for an hour or so. breeders should leap at the opportunity to infodump about their dogs! having someone who's knowledgeable and passionate about their breed and the dogs they produce is an invaluable resource, i love hanging around Dog People for that reason (the nice ones at least) and im so glad you got to do that as well!

hello anon! thanks for the interesting question! to preface, i think the nature of any internet community (and really any community, digital or not, regardless of scale) is that it's going to evolve over time. fandom is always changing and will always change based on the social context it exists within.

i rejoined fandom right before an incredibly unique (and hopefully isolated) time in history. I started posting my first fic in feb 2020 and finished just about two weeks after basically the entire world went on lockdown. during a very frightening event in most of our lives, people had a lot of free time. And many of them found fandom.

so the beginning of my fandom experience was pretty uniquely defined by the abundance of time a lot of folks suddenly had, and the way they fell in love with fic and fandom as a result. and then tiktok rolled in with its absolutely unbelievable power to introduce people to new things (fandom obviously included), bringing in a different wave of new enthusiasm. this, from my point of observation, looks like two enormous waves of folks participating in fandom for either the first time, or the first time in a very long time (like ya girl here). there's obviously a boatload of nuance involved, and what effectively amounts to turnover and replacement rates as people's engagement waxes and wanes, but very broadly speaking, A LOT of people have entered the dramione fandom in the last two and a half years.

relevant to this ask, i saw this tiktok recently that i think beautifully (and more articulately than i could ever manage) sums up the way this huge influx of newness in the fandom has resulted in some unique pressures. it hits on so many points (and so efficiently) that i've seen playing out in real time: confusion over language, misunderstandings about the intent of fanfiction, engagement with fic shifting away from the author and more towards social media platforms and influencers, capitalism in fandom, and an oil and water sort of failure by some newcomers to read the room, so to speak.

i would highly, highly suggest (might even go so far as to beg) folks to take three minutes out of their day and watch this tiktok. it's efficient, illuminating, and absolutely worth the time.

this is Lanister (he/they)! unfortunately the RP he was designed for never got off the ground so he's currently an unhomed/independent OC but I do hope to put him back into something since I've gotten really attached to him :] he's a contortionist by ability but a librarian by trade! he can extend and twist his body beyond typical human limits and thus invoke illusions; by reasonably stretching the suspension of disbelief of their onlookers, they can push that suspension further and further and trick the mind into seeing even more apparently unbelievable distortions until it becomes difficult for his audience to tell what's real and what's not real any longer. The first thing to watch out for when you think he might be using magic is his horn, since it always begins to grow and spread when the illusions start. Despite how horrific this sounds (and is), however, they're actually quite nice and mild-mannered, and sees their magic mostly as a trade. They're a sweet guy!!

And this fine fellow is Ovid! he's part of a drastically different, postapocalyptic, setting of @cabinette's. his job is putting cybernetic modifications on people who ask him for it, and he's a little guy (5' 5") who is incredibly unassuming in every way except for the fact that he's given himself Giant Robotic Bug Claws on his back mostly because he could. he's really very unassuming and doesn't tend to draw a lot of attention to himself—the only downside is that he is a genius and is keenly, keenly, painfully aware of it, and tries not to think about it, and tries not to think about the fact that he could easily code everyone in the base into a mechanical god as easily as he could pull a fire alarm, and tries not to give into that temptation, because he knows what will happen, and it will be bad, and the urge to do it is still there, just because he can. But he won't. Because he's a good guy. Surely.

(He failed, by the way. He accidentally rewrote the brain of one of his few friends into a superpowerful droid body in a moment of weakness. But he has to atone, right? An eye for a life isn't worth much, but it's got to be worth something. Right?)

Can these anons who talk about pd's fb groups cite what pd and their fans said there or something? Especially those who claimed about alex's fans wanting more page-time or whatever because at this point with no screenshots or link proofs for the pd group conversation (except for the bonus contents), it becomes more of a "hearsay" than it's a concrete proof that these events happened. I'm not saying that it's unbelievable they happened, i'm just saying, as much as we hated nightfall, alex etc., to accuse authors (real human beings) without proof and slandering them and namecalling them for things they possibly didn't do (that are mostly fictional) is... a bit much, no?

Sure we can call out whatever bullshit PD wrote on PAPER, they can never deny it, they're all published everywhere, but these fb interactions (about fictional characters) anons keep on mentioning were always so vague, it bcomes more like a gossip, than it's the truth, because of how no-facts it was, and as a casual reader of this series, it doesn't sit right with me how many times different anons kept on bringing up about pd's fb group interactions, even from KO's past and older asks, without even linking or showing pictures of these interactions happening. And if there's one thing i know about this fandom is that readers really interpret a lot of things differently than pd (justly or unjustly) and misunderstanding happens all the time (especially between the portugese/non-portugese fandom due to translation alone, not counting anything else yet), even in discussions, so? Screenshots or links, anybody?

Also, i've been around to see those tweets claimed by anon during the release of nightfall, and while i agree that so many readers were disappointed with nightfall and some even expressed their disappointment really badly (even some dn twitter accounts that exist even until now there) by calling pd with various vile names, and pd got so many backlashes on goodreads, it was always just implied that some crticisms were going around on fb, but i never remembered any screenshots or links about them happening. The backlash and death threats against pd on twitter was so bad from readers, that they dont even use twitter after a free ebook promotion for credence then.

I am not siding with pd or anything, but i feel like as much as we hate their stories and there could be valid criticisms of them, when it comes to what pd actually did outside of their fictional stories, we really gotta be mindful of what we spread to others because cant this be considered as slander? Maybe even bullying, whatnot with all the namecalling, especially when you make something up and it never happened? That's why it's also to quote canon texts, or even loosely describe/paraphrase them during discussions. Because boundaries like these are easier to cross when people are too busy being chronically online behind anon asks or accounts to remember that pd's a real human beings despite whatever fictional things they published.

I’ve tried to be careful about it in the past, but I know I’ve gotten lenient as I’ve gone on. But going forward, if you’re message contains any type of threat or hateful speech towards PD as a person, I won’t post it. I won’t even acknowledge it. And that goes for their kids and husband as well.

We can talk about their faults as an author and storyteller. We can talk about their characters and plots, but I want to leave them alone. They have to live their life too, and nobody should feel unsafe because they wrote a fictional book about fictional characters in a make-believe town.

PD did not write any of these series to personally offend any of us, and it’s just not right to degrade them so viciously.

Two, I have worried about this. It’s weighed on my mind that, if left uncheck, this blog will turn into what people complain DN twitter and insta is like; a place of hate and vitriol, where discussion and sharing just can’t take place.

I’m new at running a blog like this, so I sometimes don't know how to handle something that causes me to pause. My general approach as been to first be nice, second respond to what I can while being nice.

Please remember that all of these messages pass over my eyes first – not PDs, mine. I take in all of the negative things that get said. And then I have to think about them, and how to respond in a way that is respectful.

I wanted a blog that I could share some of my DN writing, some HC, and discussions. You can talk about PD, as long as it remains about their books and writing. But I personally don’t want to hear hateful speech about them. I don’t want to have to take it in or post it for others to do so. So no name calling or tearing down their person. No threats to their person or loved ones.

Be respectful of other’s opinions and interpretations. You can disagree with them, as long as it isn’t in a degrading way. Again, I haven’t seen this so far. Maybe some have come close to the line in my opinion, but I’m not thinking of anyone specifically. I’m not calling anyone out.

Just a general notice going forward.

That’s an excellent reminder.

I’ve always taken everything that gets told to me on here with a grain of salt. It does at times feel like it’s something that’s been passed around so often without people checking. But as I don’t have fb and if I did, I wouldn’t be in PD’s group, I have no way of verifying.

So, if you guys do have ability to provide a reference for your claims, that would be great and appreciated.

I won’t say I’ll require it at this point. Just know as a reader, this blog is unverified, and some of these might not be accurate or maybe influenced by personal opinion.

As an example, I recently said that PD didn’t want to do anything with the series because they had a hard time with the backlash after NF was released. I based that on the FAQ page on their website where they said:

“I think most of you understand how hard the response on the series was for me. I write too slow, readers are forced to wait too long, and by the time the next installment finally releases, you’ve developed your own ideas on what you think should happen, and when it doesn’t, so many got angry with me. I’m tired of disappointing people, and I think if most of you are honest, you know you don’t want to see the next generation doing the things their parents did. Not really. Right now, they’re safe in your head where I can’t ruin it.”

This said to me that they’re very aware of what the response to this series as been. I’ve coupled this with the multiple times they’ve said they’re not going to continue writing for DN. To me, they sound hurt.

So, just like that, that’s the only type of reference I would need. A direct quote, screenshot, link to something, what have you. For some, it would be helpful, but at the same time, don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Always check and verify for yourself.

This is very true, and I’m guilty of this as well. I appreciate the reminder to not circulate gossip. But it can be hard to get screenshots from something that happened years ago, so maybe I’ll come up with some kind of system to tag what is unverified information.

i feel like as much as we hate their stories and there could be valid criticisms of them, when it comes to what pd actually did outside of their fictional stories, we really gotta be mindful of what we spread to others because cant this be considered as slander? Maybe even bullying, whatnot with all the namecalling, especially when you make something up and it never happened? That's why it's also to quote canon texts, or even loosely describe/paraphrase them during discussions. Because boundaries like these are easier to cross when people are too busy being chronically online behind anon asks or accounts to remember that pd's a real human beings despite whatever fictional things they published.

I know I’m basically circling back to what I said first, but I just wanted to note that I really appreciated this paragraph. Thank you. For the reminder that our words to have an affect on others. Even if PD doesn’t see this, we’re in control of cultivating our fandom experience. We can get bogged down with hate and frustration towards PD, or we can choose to be better. I definitely don’t want be a bully to anyone, especially strangers on the internet who have never done anything to me. So, I will try harder to avoid speaking that way and supporting that kind of attitude.

If anyone is put off by this, that’s fine. These kinds of limits are not for everyone, but please respect my efforts to feel more comfortable with the material I post to this blog. I’m not targeting anyone.

Truthfully, I’ve enjoyed my time so far and would like to continue enjoying. So please be mindful to the kind of things I’m going to have to read and take in, and I’ll do the same for you.
