I could write an entire essay on why I don’t think Elriel is endgame but I think I just need to say one thing (besides Elain and Lucien are mates):

We didn’t get to see their lust and feelings develop on page, and more importantly, in their POVs. We get Feyre seeing glances and blushes from across the room. Absolutely. I’m not denying that. But a romance book immediately starting with two characters already in love? That’s not SJMs way. She has ALWAYS made her couples struggle with their feelings before accepting and officially falling in love, even when the couples had secret attraction for each other.

Elriel has tension, but that’s already the peak of their relationship. It can’t get any higher, and in fact, it’s already going downhill with the bonus chapter.

It’s also not SJMs way to do a secret romance / cheating trope which I see a lot of people suggesting, because with a cheating trope, it only works if the person being cheated on is a bad person and did wrong on their partner. Lucien is not that man, you guys. Not at all. And what I’m getting from Elriels is they want Elriel’s book to be Elain and Az in love even though Rhys forbade it and Lucien either accepting it and going with Vassa because he loved her the entire time anyway (despite everything going against that) or him getting mad Elain went for Az instead and he calls for a blood duel.

I’m so sorry but Elriel just makes no sense to me. They have no struggle, no growth, no substance.

Move over Feyre, my eyes will burn with yours! 😭 Lucien didn't deserve this pain, and he certainly hasn't done anything to deserve the added pain of a rejected bond after carrying the grief of a love killed as he watched. Can you even imagine watching your loved one's suffering and death? I definitely can't.

Why anyone wishes more pain upon our sassy fox boy with a rejected bond or potentially death in a Blood Duel is beyond me. Maybe I just have too big an empathetic heart.

I’m sorry but I do not believe anyone who says they love Lucien and at the same time ship him with Vassa. Why would you ship him with a human he will outlive by centuries? Sjm has made it clear that the mating bond is rare and cherished among fae. And Lucien clearly longs for a relationship with Elain. If you love Lucien so much why don’t you want him to have that epic, fated love? 🤨

Ok so Elriels want Jurian to die now? Great great. They want Lucien to get rejected by his mate and then lose one of his best friends. Some romance. We'll be too busy crying in despair for Lucien to focus on the romance. PLUS Vassa is still human as far as we know, so she'll die soon. Triple tragedy for Lucien. Super romantic. Also what do you MEAN Jurian is not love interest worthy???? He's a freedom fighter???? He rizzed one of the High Fae to save his cause???? He outsmarted Hybern twice???? He's Lucien's bestie??? Gwyn can't start a relationship with Az in the future because she's clearly too traumatized by her past from two years ago even though she expressed disappointment over having the chance to lay with a male for the first time being taken from her. Also, the fact that she was ok being alone with him in the middle of the night and has teased him on a few occasions couldn't possibly be her flirting just a bit.

However Vassa will start a relationship with Lucien despite the fact that her body is still under the control of an evil sorcerer, we know he's planning on forcing her to return and lord knows what her mental state will be after that, plus she's never actually given us any hints as to her sexual preference or whether she has any interest in Lucien as more than a friend.

Lucien has been living with Vasaa for 2 years and he isn't healed.

His relationship with Feyre (last time we saw it) was not on best terms, he still is not on good terms with any of his brothers and is banned from the AC, does not even know who his father is.

Those are all the reasons he is struggling and has Vassa helped? No.

Elain has lived (kind of) with Azriel for 2 years also.

She has to declare that she is a part of the court even though she has been present for 2 years.

''Claiming'' to be apart of the Night court DRAINS THE LIFE FROM HER.

(the fact that Az only thinks of her in the Dead of night too)

She is not healed. She still has Greysons ring on her finger (correct me if im wrong,seriously)

We see her acting a little strange and uneasy so something is going on.

I don't think she healed.

In my opinion, Lucien and Elain have become simply used to the life they are in now.

Lucien is used to being in the middle of Vassa and Jurians nonsense and working for the Spring court,night court and human lands.

Elain is used to being dismissed as a fragile beautiful breakable flower and often has to declare,claim,and defend herself.

In my opinion Lucien and Elain are surviving not living.

Considering Lucien sees himself as nothing, i doubt he even knows he deserves better than the life he is in.

Elain is not a dog but Nesta was right when she said she is loyal to who ever gives her shelter and food. (no shade i would too)

But she will always remember the kindness of ''letting her live'' in the Night court. I think this often gets confused with want she really wants.

Imo, i think she feels like their is a debt to be paid.

Anyways they have been living/around with their so called endgame/mate for two years and still has no impact on their characters.

Whatever. Do with that what you will but i sniff a Fawn and Fox endgame thank you so much.

Guys. Elain is connected to the Koschei plot. Idk why this is a debate. Obviously Vassa is connected to Koschei too but Elain was the one who INTRODUCED US to the Koschei and Vassa plot. She had the vision of them, and she also had the vision of the black box which is still unresolved.

Elain will have relevancy to the Koschei plot.

When sjmaas said there would be someone special for Lucien she meant Vassa, which will be the last book after Elain and Azriel 💞

Ahhh yes. Foul mouth with a fouler temper goes extremely well with a courtier and emissary who is cultured and elegant. Vassa at Jurian's throat is such a romantic setup for Lucien too, don't you think? Especially when SJM used that exact phrase to describe Hunt and Bryce and Nesta and Cassian. I especially like how Lucien has lived with Vassa for a year but still looks at Elain with longing. Vassa must be SUPER special to him. And that whole bit about how she insulted Tamlin to which Lucien cringed in response. Oh! And how she's not once asked him anything about the fae and how they're faring with their rebuilding efforts after the war. It's really nice how Vassa takes an interest in Lucien's kind, don't you think? And how she's looking to reclaim her human body and lead the humans. Lucien will fit right into that world. It's really fun to me how E/riels will talk about how amazing Elain is. How beautiful, how special and Cauldron loved, how gentle and sweet and kind while in the next breath will turn around and say she's not special enough to be who SJM was talking about when she said there was someone special for Lucien down the road and proceeded to make Elain his mate about a year later.
