Why Does Mummy Hurt?
Helping Children Cope With The Challenges Of Having A Caregiver With Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, or Autoimmune Disease
Tumblr media
The children of people with chronic illness and pain suffer quietly. "Why Does Mommy Hurt?" is a joyful, yet honest, portrayal of family life burdened with chronic illness. This is a delightful story told by a young boy learning to understand and cope with his mother's illness. The story creates natural opportunities for families to talk about both the symptoms of chronic illness, and how they affect family life. Even more importantly, the story puts power into the hands of the children. It also offers a helpful "Tips and Resources" section for parents! This book is appropriate for a wide-variety of illnesses associated with chronic pain, such as: Lupus, Lyme Disease, ME, CFS, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Autoimmune Disease, and many others.

Pain relief methods:
context: I have joint pain due to h-ehlers danlos and arthritis, along with muscular pain due to hEDS as well. I also have an unknown autoimmune, which often coinsides with my pain. These methods are what work for me for my needs. I will be excluding prescription medication, and drugs that are still illegal in parts of the US (yknow the one) please talk to a doctor if you consider getting prescription medication, many prescription pain medications can be addictive which is why they are a controlled substance
Ibuprofen for muscular pain
Tylenol for joint pain (arthritis Tylenol is a different kind, and makes my joints much more stiff than regular Tylenol)
heating pad
warm bath (a rarity, as if my joints hurt enough, I don't want to struggle to get in and out of the bath)
rest
Voltaren (CAN be prescription, but also OTC, expensive but works decently after a few uses. Relief doesn't last long imo)
Icy hot or anything similar
Back/Knee brace to prevent further pain
good, long stretches for upper back pain (side to side stretch)
mobility aids (I haven't used any myself persay, ive used walking sticks ive created when out in the forest, and at work when im cleaning up for the night I push around some carts and put some weight of mine in them which makes it easier for me to move)
compression socks/gloves (gloves for when my hand joints are acting up and are stiff, socks for when the bloodflow in my legs arent cycling correctly AND helps with muscle pain caused by heds)

to our friends with chronic pain:
i hope your pain is manageable today! i hope that you’re able to do what you want to do, and i hope you enjoy doing it
and if you’re having a bad pain day: i hope you can get some rest and take it easy, and i hope tomorrow will be better!
you’re so amazing and strong, even if you don’t feel like it (yes, even if others tell you that you’re not!)
we love you! /p

You know you can get arthritis in your feet? I didn’t until I got out of bed one morning and promptly collapsed. Felt like I’d been stabbed in the foot.
So what I’m saying here is… make sure your shoes have good arch support.

I consider myself able-bodied, but I do not consider myself capable of work because I have too many issues that if I had to work, I'd likely end up getting fired for likely different reasons. Some of them...probably self-inflicted. I don't take any shit!
There's no reason for me to use the term "cripple" or physically disabled, anything relating to that. I'm not incapable of walking. Though I do have problems sometimes actually walking because of joint problems or just in general, the mental fortitude to make myself walk.
I don't need a tag to describe these problems because there's already an assignment I can use to describe it. Depression, adhd, both of those can make it hard to walk, and if there's other problems that I have, like mild arthritis, then those are terms or tags I would use to describe myself or associate myself with.
I wouldn't just decide to go take a tag or claim myself as crippled, or whatever the appropriate term used, because it's wrong. That's not where I belong because I know I can walk, I know I'm not physically disabled. It just takes time and effort.
People who argue about shit like this is imo, extremely pathetic. You're trying to take away something that they need to use to make their voice heard, and if you, a walking person, or whatever, wants to use that term, well to fucking bad. Stop trying to involve yourself in spaces that you obviously don't belong in because that's what we call privilege. The fact you even try to argue about it is proof enough of it. You know you don't belong despite the fact you think you do.
I feel like I shouldn't even have to say this, and before you decide to go off why don't you just fuck off. Idc what you have to say. Like if you get ran over by Betty and her wheelchair because you fuckin decided to insert yourself in their space, then that's not my fault bitch, it's your own fuckin fault!
I may be a walker, but imma tell you right now, at least I fuckin respect people's spaces! Yes! I have my own problems, but step off bitches! Just..stop. Just stop it. Being disabled in any sense doesn't give you a right to anything! Being neurodivergent doesnt give you the right to anything! Stop being like the people who abuse us! If you're mentally disabled like me and it stops you from walking sometimes, that's not being crippled or non-able bodied. The fact you think this just completely proves the point people are trying to make!
To all my physically disabled peeps out there, fuck yeah! Tell em off! Run them bitches over and keep rolling! Wack em with your aids and everything! I love you! Be yourself! Don't take shit! Do your things!

HOW TO GET RID OF KNEE PAIN?
Knee pain is a common health issue affecting everyone at different life stages. Knee pain can be caused by injuries such as ligament or torn cartilage or medical conditions such as arthritis, gout, etc. Having sore knees is usually not a sign of anything serious and can be treated at home by adopting some home remedies. However, with age, the knee problem worsens; people who are overweight and people into sports are at an increased risk of sports despite their age.
Knee pain can majorly be classified into two broader categories:
Knee Pain with Injury
Overusing or twisting the knee during exercise or physical activity
Pain between your kneecap and shin caused by the injury
Knee pain which causes difficulty in standing and stretching
Knee Pain without Injury
Pain and swelling in knees and around the knees as often occur with age
Difficulty in walking and bending knees
Out-of-the-blue knee pain at any point of the day
Knee pain can be easily managed by following these three steps at home immediately after facing knee pain
Use an ice pack or a frozen bag on the knee and massage it for 15-20 minutes 2-3 times a day
In case when the pain does not reduce, take a painkiller
Do more rest and put less weight on your knee, such as by standing for a more extended time
We advise you to seek medical treatment to avoid further complications. Consult experienced doctors to avoid and get better treatments through SmartCare.

The Healing Power of Turmeric: Uses and Benefits
Introduction
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in natural remedies and traditional healing practices. One such powerhouse of healing that has captured the spotlight is turmeric. Known for its vibrant yellow hue and distinctive flavor, turmeric has been used for centuries in traditional medicine, particularly in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine. Beyond its culinary uses, turmeric is gaining recognition for its incredible healing properties. Let's delve into the world of this golden spice and explore its various uses and benefits.
The Active Compound: Curcumin
At the heart of turmeric's healing power lies its active compound, curcumin. Curcumin is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant agent, making turmeric a valuable addition to any wellness routine. While the spice itself contains only about 3% curcumin, it is still enough to impart a range of health benefits.
Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Chronic inflammation is a common denominator in many modern ailments, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Turmeric's anti-inflammatory properties, attributed to curcumin, can help combat this silent but destructive process. Studies have shown that curcumin can inhibit the activity of inflammatory pathways at the molecular level, providing a natural and effective way to manage inflammation.
Antioxidant Boost
Oxidative stress, caused by an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body, is another factor contributing to various diseases and aging. Turmeric's antioxidant properties help neutralize free radicals, reducing oxidative stress and supporting overall cellular health. This makes it a valuable ally in the fight against chronic diseases and the aging process.
Joint Health and Arthritis Relief
Turmeric's anti-inflammatory effects extend to joint health, making it a popular natural remedy for arthritis and joint pain. Individuals suffering from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis may find relief in the regular consumption of turmeric or curcumin supplements. The spice's ability to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain offers a holistic approach to managing these conditions.
Digestive Wellness
In traditional medicine, turmeric has been used to promote digestive health. It can help stimulate bile production, aiding in the breakdown of fats and improving overall digestion. Additionally, its anti-inflammatory properties may alleviate symptoms of digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Brain Health and Cognitive Function
Emerging research suggests that turmeric may play a role in supporting brain health and cognitive function. Curcumin's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects may help protect the brain against age-related diseases like Alzheimer's. While more research is needed in this area, incorporating turmeric into your diet may contribute to overall cognitive well-being.
Heart Health
Heart disease is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, and lifestyle factors play a significant role in its development. Turmeric's anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties can positively impact cardiovascular health by improving blood vessel function, reducing blood clot formation, and lowering levels of inflammation and oxidative stress.
Incorporating Turmeric Into Your Routine
Now that we've explored the myriad benefits of turmeric, the question arises: How can you incorporate it into your daily routine? Here are some ideas:
Golden Milk: Create a soothing and nutritious drink by combining turmeric with warm milk and a dash of honey.
Turmeric Tea: Brew a cup of turmeric tea for a refreshing and health-boosting beverage.
Curry Dishes: Enhance the flavor and nutritional value of your meals by adding turmeric to your favorite curry dishes.
Smoothies: Add a pinch of turmeric to your morning smoothie for an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory kick.
Supplements: Consider taking turmeric or curcumin supplements for a concentrated dose of this powerful spice.
Conclusion
Turmeric's healing power, driven by the remarkable compound curcumin, offers a natural and holistic approach to well-being. From its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties to its potential benefits for joint, digestive, and cognitive health, turmeric has rightfully earned its place as a superfood. Whether you sprinkle it in your recipes, brew it into a comforting tea, or take it in supplement form, embracing turmeric can be a flavorful and health-conscious choice on your journey to wellness.
