I'm actually rather surprised that not a single one of the boys made top three. but then again, I suppose the large number of straight men that play this game are not as visible in fan spaces as us lgbt. That is...a fortunate thing, though, I'd argue.
#bg3#thoughts about media#with how much you see of a certain little elf- I figured he'd make the top three. but I see I figured wrong!#the top classes do not surprise me at all.#I take great interest in strategy when it comes to dbd. so I pay the same attention to strategy in bg3.#the top three classes are some of the best classes to choose for combat.#theeeen the choices stray back into RP territory.#rogue has it's uses...but less so than warlock I'd argue.#I'd say wizard and cleric are stronger than rogue too.#hell. I multiclass star into wizard once he's gotten his lvl 3 thief perks. in part for tav lore reasons. in part to maximise his strengths#stealth just isn't consistent enough in this game to pay off. in my opinion.#like the best classes I'd say are sorcerer / paladin / bard / warlock.#fighter is good for multiclassing to gain action surge. and multiclassing into war/tempest cleric can be useful too.#but fully levelling either seems pointless imo.#the race choices are 100% because of RP reasons. the stats do not whatsoever show any influence from min/maxing stats and abilities.#if that were the case. half-orc would be the top. halfing. and drow. I think duegar is good too?#tiefling being up there isn't actually TOO bad either. they are decent for mage classes.#CANNOT believe evoker wizard is the most popular though. other subclasses have better perks imo.#I also think thief is the best subclass of rogue. extra bonus action? and falling damage reduction/cannot fall prone from falling? SO good.#also my sincere congrats to the 464 maniacs who've already destroyed honour mode. you people are bananas.

do you have headcanon dnd classes for the other wolf 359 chars?
YES, i absolutely do. sticking with what they'd be (in the archetypal sense) rather than what they'd play:
other than bard eiffel, my strongest opinion is that minkowski is a paladin. she just has the right values and the setup for a sort of crisis of faith and reclaiming/restructuring of power really works for me.
ranger for lovelace, maybe? i think it could fit her brand of resourcefulness, and the way she's sort of had to become... adaptable and acclimatized to her environment more than the others have.
in one of the AMAs, sarah shachat suggested druid for hera and i really latched onto that because i'm fascinated by the implications, but again, as more of an archetype... i think maybe sorcerer. i really like the idea of hera with storm/lightning magic, especially with the association in wolf's sound design of storms and memory.
i guess hilbert is a cleric, since it's like. the common stand in for medical professions and despite everything that research is kind of what defines him. whether that actually makes him a healer is dubious.
jacobi is a rogue, maxwell is an artificer, kepler is a fighter.

I really admire Matt's dedication to making DND a more goth friendly environment. Dude whips out another blood magic based subclass every time someone leaves him alone for so much as twenty minutes

list of theories i have about DA4's protagonist
Escaped Slave. The protag, regardless of race and class, starts as a Tevinter slave. Through shenanigans (planned revolt, happenstance during a different but also important event, maybe the work of the agent of Fen'Harel if you're an elf) you escape and become tangled up in the plot.
Escaped Sacrifice. Same as above but you were going to be used a blood magic sacrifice and maybe they started it but something goes wrong and the blood magic power goes into you, making you Special™
Return of DAO's origin mechanic. Your start is based on your race and class like in DAO, with unique opening. Elves regardless of class start as slaves, Humans can start as apprentice magisters or non-mage child of magister family, dwarves are (and this is self indulgent lmao) Kal-Sharok dwarves but more likely you're a surface merchant family that trades in Tevinter. Qunari are tal-vashoth and slaves and/or local oddities.
Fade Spirit in Mortal Body. I've had this theory for years. So, like Cole, and kind of like Justice, you are a spirit who is bound to a mortal body/becomes corporeal but you don't know what kinda of spirit, or even demon, you are. Your choices and actions throughout the game shape what kind of fade being you are (being nice and wanting to help people could reveal you're a spirit of compassion and give you buffs that assist your companions, being self-important and cruel could make you a pride demon with buffs to physical/lightning dmg, etc) Will this happen? no. I want it tho.
One time I had a dream the PC for DA4 was an Awakened Darkspawn. A bitch can (literally) dream. (BRING BACK THE ARCHITECT BIOWARE)

Have you ever wished your character could cast a barrier of magic like they do in video games? The Shield Mage Wizard allows you to do just that, and more! Yesterday we revealed more about the subclass, and today we are looking to hear from you! What do you think? Who would you create? What do you think this Wizard subclass is truly capable of? Use the comments below to discuss your thoughts and let us know what you think of this spellcaster!

Mage Hand Magus
Blades sweeping around in dramatic arcs, propelled by ghostly, disembodied hands—the Mage Hand Magi are truly a force to be reckoned with. While wizards are content to use mage hand to retrieve their wands and open doors from across the room, the cantrip’s potential has always been clear for warriors: a deft mage hand can afford dozens of feet between a soldier and their foe, letting them deal a killing blow without raising a fingertip. Mage Hand Magi have mastered this cantrip through practice and discipline, elaborating a trick pioneered by warmages into a deadly fighting style of twin hovering blades. The most skilled can even manifest a warhand, a grand fist of magical wrath with which to crush their enemies.
MAGE HAND MASTER Starting at 3rd level, when you choose this archetype, you learn the mage hand cantrip if you did not know it before. You can cast it with the following improvements: • You can cast and control mage hand as a bonus action. • You summon two separate hands when you cast it, and you can control one or both of them when you use the spell. • The spell’s duration is indefinite, ending only when you are knocked unconscious or you choose to end it. • Your mage hands are stronger than normal, capable of lifting a combined weight in pounds equal to 5 × your fighter level, and they are dexterous enough to perform any ability check you could normally perform with your hands.
COMBAT HANDS At 3rd level, you have learned to use your mage hands in combat. While you are holding nothing in your hands, your mage hands can wield weapons: each can wield a single one-handed weapon, or together they can wield a two-handed weapon. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one or more of your attacks through your mage hands against targets you can see within their reach. You can add your Intelligence modifier, instead of your Strength or Dexterity, to the attack and damage rolls. A mage hand not wielding a weapon can be used to punch a creature within 5 feet of it, dealing 1d6 force damage on a hit.
HANDY MANEUVERS Starting at 7th level, you can use your mage hands to perform a number of combat maneuvers or tricks. While they aren’t wielding weapons, you can use both of your hands together to grapple or shove a creature. When you do so, you add your Intelligence modifier to the Strength (Athletics) check. Additionally, you can use your reaction to make an opportunity attack with one of your hands when a creature leaves its reach.
WARHAND Starting at 10th level, when you cast mage hand, you can form one of them into a much more powerful construct called a warhand. Your warhand is identical to the hand summoned by the spell arcane hand, except that you must use its abilities as an action instead of a bonus action. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for this spell. When you use any of the warhand’s abilities, you can use a bonus action to make a single attack with your other mage hand.
HANDGLIDE By 15th level, while two summoned mage hands or a warhand are within 5 feet of you, the hands can hold you aloft and carry you to your destination. You have a flight speed equal to your walking speed while the hands carry you.
HEAVY HANDED Starting at 18th level, you can summon two warhands instead of mage hands when you cast the mage hand spell. You can use the abilities of both warhands as part of the same action on your turn.

I do want to say, just in general, that I genuinely think the fandom sorely underestimates Essek in combat because of the specific types of combat we saw him in.
The Nein's caster contingent was so broken by the end that Matt had to build combats specifically designed to hinder a wide range of high level casters, which meant a lot of counterspells and anti-magic. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was one of the reasons Aeor was the setting for the last arc. Essek also has a lot of AOE concentration spells, and that's just not a good move with that many people on the playing fields. On a meta level, DM's curse made him less effectual when using ranged attack spells, but his support casting is clutch. The dunamancy wizard schools are generally very strong subclass options, regardless of stats, and he's got features of both, for no goddamn reason, just because Matt could. He is still a glass cannon but between Mage Armor, Shield, a likely Mote of Possibility, and Chronal Shift he's probably not going down immediately.
In conclusion:

something echoes of the solstice really pulled into sharp relief is just how good of a player sam riegel is.
like. the bait and switch of veth not going but luc jumping into the portal as a bratty teenager with stolen gear. level 5 arcane trickster and level 3 wizard (unsure of subclass, likely transmutation. edit: war magic). terrifying that a teenager is on a mission with god-level characters. horrifying to think about. i hope they have a fjorester wedding oneshot like dalen's closet that luc is still grounded at.
adding chaos to the party immediately. everyone put protections on him, as much as they could. he said i'm here to bring a reminder of what the mighty nein was and is. and buttering up the party was deeply funny. especially seeing the dichotomy between caleb and fjord's responses.
sidenote: shoutout to daniel sloss for being another spurt. fully a crash dummy drunken master monk in a kilt. it must have been so cool. triggering traps so the nein didn't take damage within the archive. put the fear of death in luc.
anyway, look at how effective luc was. the invisible mage hand. experimental potion from yeza, which i suspect gave him hp and asis temporarily, but not an expanded spell list. see invisibility in the house to catch trent, when none of the rest of the party could find him, which prompted the antimagic field, beau's hits, and the transition to the second battle map. enlarge on the t-rex for kaiju battle. and the first to damage the egg with a 28 on his attack roll with the security cannon. as a level 8 among level 20s. luc got so much experience out of that battle. no more dying in the fire plane for luc, no sirree.
only 1st and 2nd level spells at base. pretty much comparable to an 8th level spellcaster sidekick or 4th level spellcaster main. big moves from a small lad.
and he's still grounded at the end of the day.
anyway this is a sam riegel/luc "nott the reckless" brenatto appreciation post. he plays a rogue-wizard very well.

Just did a quick little drawing. A part of my supernatural world. I’ve actually been debating wether or not I should create a new blog for my supernatural ocs, but I probably won’t because I’m a very lazy person.
