Day 5 Regret/Support
ehehehe this is silly @takaritsuweek
**
“I think the new guy hates me.” Takano Masamune lamented on his living room floor, a beer in hand with his head resting on the table in front of him. He had already downed several cans and was beginning to feel woozy.
“Is this why you asked to hang out? To get drunk and complain about your new underling?” Yokozawa asked with annoyance, nursing his own drink but not nearly as tipsy as his friend. “What’s his name again?”
“Onodera Ritsu.” Takano said, lifting his head to look toward Yokozawa with narrowed eyes, as if offended that his friend forgot.
“Right. And why do you care? And more importantly, why should I care?” Yokozawa asked.
“Because I want him to like me!” Takano exclaimed in frustration.
He’s always more open when he’s drunk, Yokozawa thought, just a little bit amused, but mostly irritated with Takano’s antics. “I still don’t understand why I should care in this situation.”
“Because you’re my friend, you jackass, you’re supposed to support me or whatever…” Takano grumbled, taking another sip of his beer.
“Support you how?” Yokozawa asked. As far as he could tell the only role he could possibly play in this situation was an ear for Takano’s drunk ramblings.
“I don’t know, give me advice or something on how to make him not hate me.” Takano said.
“If he already hates you then that ship has probably sailed. You get on people’s bad sides quickly.” Yokozawa said. “Besides, doesn’t everyone kind of hate their boss? You hate Isaka.”
“Yeah, but he’s annoying and I’m charming and handsome-”
“And humble.” Yokozawa deadpanned. “Why do you want him to like you so bad in the first place?” Yokozawa couldn’t recall a time where Takano put in particular effort with the other members of the Emerald team to get buddy-buddy with them.
Takano, warm and loose from the alcohol and unable to maintain his usual mask of indifference, slowly started to turn red. “I just…well…I like him.” He mumbled, eyes downcast. Onodera Ritsu was captivating, like a flame that never dimmed. He was hard working to a fault, intelligent, determined, considerate, and not to mention absolutely gorgeous. Takano found himself thinking about green a lot more these days. Just as he was about to launch into this list of things he liked about Ritsu (and more), Yokozawa spoke first.
“You can’t be fucking serious. Do you have an honest to God crush on this guy? Are you twelve?”
“Shut up!” Takano snapped defensively. “What? I’m not allowed to like someone?” He demanded.
“You can’t just have a one night stand with one of your editors, that can only result in disaster.” Yokozawa said.
“Who said anything about a one night stand?”
“...You’re joking. You actually want to date this guy?”
“So what if I do? He’s so nice and he’s so pretty…” Takano finished off his beer and set the can aside, about to reach for another one, but Yokozawa smacked his hand away.
“When have you ever seriously dated someone?” Yokozawa asked, incredulous.
“So, I’m banned from dating because I have no serious experience?” Takano huffed.
“No, but do you really think it’s a good idea to pursue some kind of exclusive relationship for the first time with your employee?”
“You’re supposed to be giving me advice, not trying to talk me out of it.”
“I am giving you advice, you just don’t like it. Don’t do this, Masamune. If the guy hates you, he hates you. Just forget about it.” Yokozawa said.
Takano scowled at that.
As if he’d let go of it that easily.
-
The next morning Takano started to regret the amount of beer he’d had. It took him quite a few drinks to get drunk and he hadn’t drank that much in a while. So, the headache he had woken up to was a nice little reminder that he wasn’t a college student doing bar crawls anymore.
He showered, took some over the counter medicine for the ache, and hoped he didn’t look as disheveled as he felt as he left his apartment. He started to head down the hallway, surprised to see a familiar figure not that far ahead of him also walking toward the elevator.
“Onodera..?”
Ritsu turned when hearing his name, his eyes widening and face paling slightly - as though Takano were a poltergeist rather than a person.
“T-Takano-san? W-What are you doing here?”
“I live here.”
“You…live…here?” Ritsu echoed
“Yeah, apartment 1201.” Takano said.
“Oh. W-What a small world.” Ritsu started to force laughter, fidgeting nervously. “I live in apartment 1202. N-Not that I’m stalking you or anything, it’s a total coincidence! I would never move in next door to you on purpose!” Ritsu exclaimed.
Damn, okay, guess I’m a shitty boss and a shitty neighbor, Takano thought. “I see. Well, I had a friend over last night. I hope we didn’t disturb you at all.” He said.
“Oh, no, not at all!” Ritsu assured. “B-But, we should get going. We don’t want to be late!” Ritsu laughed fakely once more before rushing toward the elevator and pressing the button several times. Takano followed, his eyes raking over the back of Ritsu’s tense form as they waited for the elevator. He supposed it was common to be nervous around your boss, but Takano wished Ritsu could at least make eye contact with him.
Once the doors dinged and opened up, they both stepped inside. Ritsu gave Takano several side glances, shifting from foot to foot as though he could not stand still before he spoke up. “Y-You know what? I think maybe I’ll take the stairs! I-I need to get my steps in when I can!” Ritsu said in a voice that was way too cheerful before he left the elevator just as the doors were starting to close, making them swing back open.
Takano opened his mouth as if to protest, but he didn’t really have the right to demand that Ritsu ride the elevator with him. I guess he doesn’t want to be stuck in here with me.
“S-See you at work, Takano-san.” Ritsu said, going to sprint off before he suddenly tripped and fell over his own feet, landing on the floor.
“Onodera?!” Takano exclaimed in concern, stepping out of the elevator to help him stand up. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine!” Ritsu insisted immediately, standing up on his own, not even looking toward the hand that had been outstretched to assist him. He rushed off toward the stairs, quickly disappearing.
Takano let out a sigh, hearing the elevator close behind him.
He definitely hates me, Takano thought as he pressed the button once more, waiting for the doors to open back up. That usually wasn’t such a problem for Takano. Like Yokozawa said last night, he got on people’s bad sides easily. Takano was quite used to people disliking him and for the most part was indifferent to it. So, he had never tried to get someone who hated him to change their mind.
I guess I’ll have to start small.
-
“What are you gonna get?”
Ritsu had been debating on what to get from the vending machine in the break room, but nearly jumped out of his skin when hearing a deep voice come from behind him. He spun around, surprised to find Takano standing so close to him. Ritsu went to take a step back, but remembered that the vending machine was there and managed to barely resist his body’s instinct to move away.
“Oh, uh, p-probably just some coffee…” Ritsu answered, avoiding looking at Takano directly. All morning Ritsu had been evading Takano’s gaze. There were a couple times where Takano thought he might have caught Ritsu staring, but Ritsu would look away so quickly that Takano couldn’t determine if he had been glaring with disdain or not.
“Did you not sleep well last night?” Takano asked, getting some money out. “You’ve gotta make sure to take care of yourself. You always work so hard, you have to rest sometimes too.”
“I-I’m perfectly capable of taking care of myself, Takano-san, you don’t have to worry about me.” Ritsu said, turning a little pink as he stepped out of the way to let Takano use the vending machine first.
Damn it, did I offend him? Takano wondered as he fed his money into the machine before getting a can of coffee for Ritsu. “Here.” He held it out toward him after retrieving it.
“...h-huh?”
“It’s for you. You said you wanted coffee, right?” Takano said.
“Oh, you don’t have to do that.” Ritsu denied quickly.
“Consider it a late welcome gift. Come on, it’s just coffee.” Takano insisted.
Ritsu hesitated before slowly taking the coffee, not wanting to be rude by denying too fiercely. “Um, thank you.”
“No problem.” Takano said, hoping that this interaction could potentially lead to a conversation with Ritsu that was non-work related. “Do you-”
“I should probably get back to my desk.” Ritsu said quickly, turning away from Takano. “Thank you again for the coffee, I really appreciate it, I’ll get yours next time.” He added as he scampered away.
Takano’s shoulders slumped with defeat before he turned toward the vending machine to get his own coffee. Try and try again, I guess, he told himself, leisurely strolling back toward the Emerald department as he sipped on his caffeinated beverage.
“Eh, Ricchan, are you feeling alright? Your face is really red…” Takano heard Kisa ask as he came back.
“I-I’m fine!” Ritsu said immediately.
“Oi, you’re not sick, are you?” Takano asked, going over to stand next to Ritsu, trying to get a good look at him.
“Of course not, I’m perfectly healthy, promise!” Ritsu said, facing forward to try to busy himself with his work.
“...Hmph. Fine. Let me know if that changes.” Takano said, giving Ritsu a pat on the shoulder as he walked by and taking notice of the way he immediately tensed up at the touch. I’ll have to keep a closer eye on him, I don’t think he would say anything even if he was feeling unwell, Takano thought as he sat back down at his desk.
“Ricchan, did your face get even redder?”
“Y-You’re imagining things, Kisa-san!”
-
“Onodera, you should wrap it up if you want to make the last train.” Takano said, having finished packing up his own things to head home for the night.
“I-oh-but…” Ritsu trailed off, clearly unwilling to depart.
“No ‘buts’. Whatever you’re working on now can wait till tomorrow. Come on.” Takano insisted.
“I-I’ll leave soon, I promise.” Ritsu said. “Have a good night, Takano-san.”
He’s trying to avoid leaving with me, Takano thought with a huff, but he wasn’t giving up yet. “Well, I can’t let the noob stay even later than me.” He said. “So, I guess I’ll just have to wait for you to finish.”
“What? No! Y-You absolutely do not have to do that.” Ritsu said. “Please, go home and relax for the rest of the evening.”
“You might put me out of my job if I let you work harder than me.” Takano said, only teasing, though Ritsu spluttered at the implication.
“I-I would never-!”
“I know.” Takano said, smirking a bit. “I’m just messing with you.” He’s so cute, Takano thought with a quiet, but wistful sigh. “Let’s go home. Since we found out we’re neighbors we have to look out for each other, right?” He said.
Ritsu cringed a bit at that reminder. “I’m really sorry if it makes you uncomfortable that we live next door to one another, I had no idea you lived in that building, if I did I wouldn’t have-”
“It doesn’t make me uncomfortable.” Takano interrupted. “But the thought of you pulling an all nighter in this office does. So, let’s go.”
Ritsu still took a good few moments of consideration before he finally started to get ready to leave. Takano smiled a little in triumph.
“I’m guessing you haven’t had anything to eat for dinner yet?” Takano asked as they started to make their way toward the elevator.
Ritsu seemed to get more nervous with every step they took. “Ah, n-no, I haven’t.”
“Do you have anything to eat at your house?” Takano asked.
“I-I was probably going to stop in some twenty four hour convenience store on the way home and get something to eat…” Ritsu admitted.
Takano gave a disapproving click of his tongue. “Why don’t I make you something instead? I’m gonna be cooking for myself anyway and if you’re already right next door…”
“W-What?” Ritsu choked out. “N-NO - I mean - that would - that’s just too much. I couldn’t ask you to do something like that.” He said as they stood in front of the elevator. “Um, you know, I-I think maybe I’ll take the stairs again-”
“Do you have some kind of problem with me?” Takano asked, his impatience overriding his logic and forcing him to state the question that had been bugging him since Ritsu’s arrival.
“Huh? No, of course I don’t-” The elevator opened and Takano grabbed Ritsu’s arm, pulling him inside with him and pressing the ‘close door’ button. “T-Takano-san, wait a second!”
“Why do you avoid me so much if there’s no issue?” Takano asked and let him go once the doors shut.
“I’m not avoiding you.” Ritsu denied.
“Even right now you’re refusing to look right at me.” Takano said. “Have I done something to offend you? Or are you that nervous around me as boss and subordinate?”
“Um, I just…”
“I’m not trying to make you uncomfortable or anything, but I want us to be able to get along.” Takano continued.
“Well - the thing is-”
“And I know I can be kind of abrasive…okay, let’s be real, I can be kind of an asshole, so if I put my foot in my mouth at some point I’m sorry-”
“Takano-san-”
“So if we could somehow start over-”
“I like you!”
The elevator doors opened up to the lobby, Takano staring at Ritsu in surprise while Ritsu’s face flooded with immediate regret.
“You…like m-”
“I’m so sorry, please forget I said that!” Ritsu, in a scene that comically mirrored this morning, sprinted out of the elevator only to trip and fall over his own feet for the second time that day.
“Christ, you were not built for running. Stop it before you kill yourself.” Takano said, offering a hand.
Ritsu once again could not bring himself to accept Takano’s help, too entrenched in his own shame. “I’m really sorry, Takano-san…” He apologized again as he stood up.
“Sorry for what?”
“D-Don’t make me say it again!” Ritsu said, beginning to leave the building, though Takano followed close behind.
“What? So, you’re sorry for liking me?” Takano asked.
“...Yes.” Ritsu answered miserably, picking up his walking speed in an attempt to get away, but Takano grabbed his hand - half to make sure Ritsu wouldn’t leave and half to make sure Ritsu didn’t fall on his face trying to run again.
“Don’t be sorry for that, idiot.” Takano said as he kept up with him.
Ritsu frowned, furrowing his eyebrows. “I’m not a-”
“I like you too.” Takano said. “I want to take you out on a date.”
Ritsu’s fast paced footsteps came to a halt. “W-What?”
“I. Want. To. Date. You.” Takano said. “Was that clear enough?”
“I - you - b-but, you’re my boss.” Ritsu protested, glancing around nervously, thankful that it was late enough for others to not be nearby.
“So? You like me, I like you, nothing else matters besides that.” Takano said.
“You make things sound so simple…” Ritsu said with a disheartened laugh. “We’re also both men.” He pointed out.
“And yet that didn’t stop us from liking each other.”
“This is about more than us liking each other, Takano-san, i-it’s about our jobs, our families, our friends-”
“Ritsu,” Takano interrupted, Ritsu nearly choking on his own words at the sound of his given name, “we like each other. Can’t we just start there? Please? Wouldn’t it be a waste not to give this a chance?” He asked.
Ritsu took in a deep breath, releasing it in a loud sigh as he looked away from Takano, carefully weighing his words. The last time Ritsu could recall feeling even remotely similar to this was way back in high school. He had become infatuated with an upperclassman, but had never built up the courage to confess. If he didn’t pursue this then…wouldn’t he just be letting another opportunity at love slip by?
L-Love?! Ritsu was a little startled by his own thoughts. He didn’t love Takano, that would be ridiculous…at least…he didn’t love him yet. But maybe he could.
“...Okay.”
“Okay?” Takano echoed before he fully processed the response. “Okay. Okay!” He smiled, letting go of Ritsu’s hand to opt for slinging an arm around his shoulder. “Come on, we should really hurry if we’re gonna catch the train. And then we can have our first date at my place. I’ll make you dinner.”
“All I really want to do is go to bed, so it better be amazing.” Ritsu sighed, feeling exhausted after a full day of work followed by an emotional rollercoaster. “A-And let go of me, seriously, we’re still in public.” He protested.
Takano chuckled. “I promise, I’ll impress you.” He said, giving him a squeeze instead of letting him go.
Turns out the new guy didn’t hate him at all.

*After the couple makes their leave, the party begins its wind down. People begin to say their goodbyes as they leave to enjoy their last night before whatever may happen tomorrow while others begin to clean up the site.*
Sly: *With all the clean up done Sly sits against one of the nearby trees playing with his knife, not really looking to leave*
Tumblr media
Hey, are you not leaving yet? I know assassins don't conform to our lowly normie sleep schedules, but you should probably still go and rest. It's been a long day.
Sly: *Orochi’s voice breaks him from his thoughts* Haha very funny. You don’t have to babysit me yknow. I’m sure Yokozawa is tired of waiting for you to get him down from the flagpole anyway.
Tumblr media
*He giggles, bemused* I know, I know. I figured I should let him stew for a bit after how he spoke to Okanaya-kun, but I suppose I should actually go and collect him. Try and get some sleep soon though, okay? Best to not ruin your sleep schedule now of all time.
Sly: Yeah yeah. *He pauses for a moment* You have a good rest of your night Kamisaka. I’m just gonna…enjoy the atmosphere for a little bit longer.
*After Orochi leaves, Sly sits there finally all alone. He doesn’t particular do anything, he just sits and waits. Though as time goes by it becomes unclear what he’s waiting for. Nothing happens around him. After a while…*
Sly: *He let’s put a sigh* Well Maki, you won’t be able to say I didn’t try at least. *He shrugs to himself and begins to slowly walk towards the dorms under the night sky*
*As Sly walks up the path back to the dorms, Maemi comes into view, leaning against one of the trees on the pathway. From the way her gaze is fixed on him, it's clear she was waiting for him.*
Tumblr media
*She pushes herself off of the tree* You certainly kept me waiting. The last one to leave. In the time it took for you to leave, Kamisaka-san managed to rescue Yokozawa-san and have a small conversation with me...*She tries to hold an annoyed glare, but it doesn't feel genuine*
Sly: Kept you waiting? I was giving you a chance to come talk to me. Figured it would’ve been during the festivities. Especially after seeing you go after Kurosaki. Guess I got the wrong idea about you. *That last sentence carrying a hint of venom in it*
Tumblr media
You didn't leave yourself many opportunities to pull you aside...
Tumblr media
*She sighs* This is already starting on the wrong note. Can we start this over?
Sly: *His promise to hear her out echoes in his head again and he sighs* I’ve been making too many promises lately….Sorry bout that, yeah let’s start over.
Tumblr media
*She shuffles awkwardly, playing with her hair* I, um...I'm sorry. For everything. For tricking you. More importantly, for using Harukawa-san to trick you. I used leverage against her so she couldn't refuse and it put you in the middle when it wasn't something you should've been kept in the dark for if we were going to involve you.
Sly: *He looks at her, unable to hide his disappointment* You still just don’t get it Maemi.
Tumblr media
I...I figured I didn't. It was thoughtless what I did to you. I still don't fully understand the ins and outs of it all, which just makes it worse.
Sly: *He takes a deep breath* Of course using Maki, someone you know I trusted with all I am, really pissed me off. And her going along with it hurt me in a way I didn’t think she was capable of doing. But that’s not what this is about. It plays a part but it’s not the biggest thing.
Tumblr media
The biggest thing being?
Sly: You. Being tricked into helping Kurosaki is one thing. Having Maki help you in doing so is another. But what I really hate about this whole thing is how you did it. You made me think…you made me think you were in danger. You made me think that if I went about something the wrong way someone could take you away. You made me think that someone was gonna kill you. You used the fact that I care about you and you specifically to make me move as if I was a puppet.
Tumblr media
Yeah...I did. I should have been honest with you from the start. It...wasn't right of me to make you think all of those things. I got so blinded trying to help Yuuki I didn't stop to consider you or anyone else. It was awful of me...If I'm going to be transparent, I was never planning on revealing it was all fake. I was hoping that when Yuuki found out Shirogane losing all her memories, he would give up. But I should have realised his talent would lead him to the truth...I'm sorry, Sly. To have gotten you wrapped up in all of my...bullshit. Not just my own baggage, but Shirogane's. And Yuuki's. And I suppose also Amami-san's.
Sly: I don’t care about that Maemi. This baggage you talk about, I would’ve gladly carried some of it had you just talked to me. I’m glad we helped Kurosaki. I truly am. Seeing him come back after your talk and smile the way he did was refreshing. But I simply just don’t want people I care about purposefully using that against me. I’m not someone that’s been taught to care about or trust many people. Opening up to somebody and them using that to manipulate me…what am I supposed to do with that?
Tumblr media
...There's not much you really can do, is there?
Tumblr media
I...I can't take back what I've done, Sly. But whatever I need to do in order to find some semblance of the friendship we used to have, I'm willing to do it. I just...I'm not used to people truly caring about my wellbeing. I think I've forgotten what it's like to be...cared about, I suppose.
Tumblr media
It's my own fault. I denied Yuuki a friend back at Hope's Peak. Someone he could find solidarity in. Despite believing I could trust you, I never...truly believed that you would really care if something happened.
Tumblr media
Its just all become such a mess...and I don't know what to do with it now. For the first time with you I just feel...lost. After years of it always feeling so easy to be with you, I don't know what to do now. And I don't know what to do to make it better. If I just...if I just let Yuuki in back then. If I actually dealt with all this, maybe I wouldn't be like this now. Hurting you. You've just become another victim.
Sly: *In hearing that word, he chuckles a bit to himself* Sorry, I don’t think I’ve ever been called a victim before. It’s usually the other side of the coin. It’s especially funny coming from you. *He sighs* If you were me Maemi what would you do?
Tumblr media
...*sighs* The problem is that the thing you're most upset about is the thing I thought you would be the least upset about...honestly, I wouldn't forgive me. I was shocked when Yuuki said he would want to rebuild our relationship. I don't really think I deserve it, and I don't think I can give you an unbiased opinion on what to do...but I want to do whatever it takes. I...don't want to lose you. Not after everything that's happened.
Sly: Look, maybe it’s the atmosphere of the day. I’m really happy I got to be apart of something so nice before a day like tomorrow. With that said I don’t forgive you. Not yet. But I do understand your thought process and in the end you’re okay and Kurosaki is okay so I guess I accept your apology. I don’t want to go into tomorrow with any regrets and I get the feeling I don’t want to lose you either, it’s literally the reason I’m so mad so there’s no real point in letting the unnecessary drama linger on.
Tumblr media
Then...where do we go from this point?
Sly: Hmmm. When this is all over, if you’re able, I want you to start seeing Gekkougahara. At least one time. You do that and I’ll feel a lot better about us moving forward.
Tumblr media
Okay...Yeah, that's fair enough. I'll vow to do that...in that case, when this is all over, if we make it through this...
Tumblr media
I want to tell you about it. The whole killing game...it got covered up by Hope's Peak for so long, it should be exposed in the end. I...don't know what would happen to Shirogane, but frankly keeping it hidden has just made my life more difficult...I want you to be the first to hear about it all
Sly: I’ll be ready to listen when you’re ready to speak.
Tumblr media
Thank you...
Tumblr media
*She rubs at her arms* We should...probably get some rest. Fun aside, it's been an absolute saga of a day. It's like the Endless Eight Arc in the Haruhi Suzumiya anime.
Tumblr media
Shall we...head back to the dorms?
Sly: You know I have no idea what that is but yeah I’ll walk you to your room. No need to be so shy
Tumblr media
Shy? *She giggles* Don't be so absurd.

Aside from the benefits of its antioxidant properties, rice bran also has a number of other beneficial attributes, including deep hydration and anti-aging. It is an excellent source of Omega 9, fatty acids, and vitamin E. It also contains antioxidants, such as lycopene, which is found in tomatoes and many other fruits. In fact, the Japanese use rice bran as a base for many of their face masks.
Unrefined brown rice bran is the most nutrient-dense food known to mankind. According to Paul Pitchford, author of Healing With Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition, rice bran contains more than 70 antioxidants. These compounds protect our cells from free radical damage and maintain the youthfulness of our skin. A key component of Nuka is the anti-aging polyphenol antioxidant alpha lipoic acid, which has been proven to restore damaged liver tissue and convert glucose into energy.
Ancient cultures, including the Japanese, had much to say about how to maintain beauty and stay young. Even if you're using the most expensive beauty products in the world, you may still want to try the ancient Japanese method of camellia oil for skin care. The benefits of camellia oil for skin are so extensive that it's used in many beauty products today. Here's how it works:
The oil from camellia japonica is a rich source of essential fatty acids. Because it's dry, it doesn't clog pores or leave a greasy residue. Its composition is rich in proteins and vitamins. It also contains Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and linoleic acid, which helps hold moisture and reduce trans-epidermal water loss.

i just feel like ranting so pls ignore it if you want but like why dont people make doujins of existing bls more :(( the other day i read this one doujinshi of yokozawa/kirishima from sekaiichi and it was really cute and i tried to look for more and there weren't any also there's like very little fanfic content of bls unless its like yoi or something maybe theyre just not as popular anymore?? but even recent popular bls barely have any content aside from the ones by the original creator which makes me lil sad
Well, there might be different reasons for this. Usually manga tend to have less doujins (that reach us international fans), when a manga gets an anime it gets considerably more popular and gathers more fans. Also, popular animanga that get a big number of BL doujins are usually the ones that aren't BL but have a popular fan-pairing. And when there's a canon gay couple like YoI or Given, the story tends to center in a plotline besides the romance. BL manga have a diverse type of stories but those tend to center on the romance and are mostly short, consisting of 1 or 2 volumes. So when you read a story, you rarely leave unsatisfied with the conclusion, or to put it in other words, you rarely leave wanting more, or that's my impression. And when this happens, fans won't create that much content.
You can take the recent popularity of chinese danmei as an example. Despite the main leads being in a confirmed relationship and romance being central to the story, you'll see the danmei titles with more fan content are the ones that mix other genres, has a plot alongside the romance, have a big cast of characters, popular side-pairings, and are adapted to animation or live action.
I get your frustration, BL manga is a small community in comparison to other manga genres and anime communities, but there's a lot of avid fans you can talk to and maybe it might impulse for fan content being created.

Everyone it’s Junjou Swap!
The basic deal is that everyone swapped positions from their significant other with some traits still holding. Most of the characters personalities stay pretty consistent with a few exceptions.
Young Akihiko Usami has always had a passion for writing novels and his big chance is finally received once Asahina, son of the lead of Marukawa publishing, directs him to a young novelist competition. However many things block his path with the consistent pressure from his parents to succeed the family business once his older half-brother Haruhiko got ex-communicated from them due to pursuing his dreams of becoming an architect. Thankfully, Usami butler Tanaka acts as their secret messenger between the close brothers as Haruhiko keeps encouraging to follow his heart away from the family business.
Misaki Takahashi is a 28 year old young man who has had a relatively normal life after the death of his parents at the age of 18. Unfortunately, he isn’t exactly satisfied with his current situation as a permeating sense of isolation confounds his lifestyle. Once his parents died, his older brother Takahiro ,age 31, and him never really spoke again. There seems to be some shared resentment between the two brothers yet an undeniable feeling of reconciliation that they want to attain if only one would reach out to the other. Being that he was never raised by his brother, this Misaki isn’t as confounded by not causing other people problems but still is more thoughtful than the rest due to living up on his own after high school and having to deal with the harsh realities of adulthood without any affluent novelist at his side.
At least, not until now.....
Aside from the cheesy character intros I would think that Misaki and Akihiko first meet after Misaki stays late at work one night and sees Akihiko hesitating to turn in his manuscript. He snuck out from his family home against his parents wishes and doesn’t want to go back therefore Misaki reluctantly offers him shelter. From there their relationship grows and yeah, they kiss and fall in love.
Some other interesting additions I’d like to add is Misaki’s coworkers at Japun, Sumi and Todo with chief editor Yokozawa leading the group (dream time amiright). Misaki and Todo are big fans of the up and coming mangaka Ijuuin sensei with his newest series ‘The Kan’. Sumi is kind of like Tsumori, but less of an asshole, and playflirts with Misaki making Akihiko jealous.
Aikawa is also a newly-hired literature editor who is starry-eyes with passion to make her new novelist Usami Akihiko a big hit. She’s very passionate and is full of energy.
Isaka is Asahina’s flirty secretary who always seems to cause him more trouble and people always wonder why he hasn’t been fired yet but most of the executives know why if you catch my drift.
I would say this AU focuses mainly on Romantica but feel free to add any other characters or bits of information. I want to make this into a fanfic but I’d also be happy to see any collaborative efforts! This AU was super fun to think about ❤️

I CAN’T BREATHE!!! JUST LOOK AT HISHIMOTO-SAN LOOK AT YOU IN THE COVER!!!
Tumblr media
I won’t be talking about the plot because we all know how much of godsend it was—but in case you haven’t read this yet, GO FUCKING READ IT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?!?!?!?! First of all, can we talk about how Hishimoto-san and Yokozawa-san are named Takafumi?!?!?!??! YOU DON’T KNOW HOW MUCH THIS MEANS TO ME. 😭😭😭 Horiuchi Kenyuu isn’t just a veteran, HE’S A FIRST GENERATION VETERAN! I think Hirakawa Daisuke is the only other actor from the first gen who’s still active now. May he grant us his talents for more years to come. 🙇‍♀️ AND HE’S PAIRING UP WITH MY FAVORITE BL SEIYUU, TOO?! IS IT CHRISTMAS?! Truth be told, while Okitsu is the perfect cast for Ise-kun, I was doubtful with Kenyuu. I loved his Yokozawa-san and would never trade him for the world, but saying that his acting was perfect as Yokozawa-san would be a lie. I’m not saying that he’s not cut out for BL anymore or that he sounds uncomfortable with it, but it’s been such a long timeeeeee. Also, Yokozawa-san was a bottom, so I wasn’t sure how he’ll do Hishimoto-san (I know that his voice was born for seme roles, but again, it’s been a long timeeee). Surprisingly enough, he did better than what I expected because I was literally on the floor!!!
Tumblr media
I loved it because he really sounded like a bonafide old man who didn’t have experience in men, but had just enough charisma and sex appeal to make me and Okitsu melt into a puddle!!! 😩 #BLESS I guess this is what we call natural acting! Now I get why Ginger Records cast him in this because his rather raw/out of touch acting is perfect for the otherwise clumsy and out of touch in love Hishimoto Takafumi! MAMA, I WANNA BE LOVED BY A DADDY LIKE THIS, TOO!!! 😭😭😭 No, but I do wanna know what having a father feels like sometimes. Yo, I never want to get married bc I ain’t about that domestic life and kids shit, but if Hishimoto Takafumi drops his underwear on me and calls me out with Kenyuu’s voice...DO YOU WANT ME TO CLIMB THAT TREE, DADDY? WASH YOUR LAUNDRY, DADDY? I JUST CLEANED THE HOUSE SPOTLESS AND MADE YOU A FULL-COURSE ITALIAN DINNER, DADDY. ALSO, JUNIOR’S DOING FINE, DADDY. WANT MORE KIDS???
Tumblr media
Speaking of Ginger Records, I know y’all love Okitsu because I love him, too. 😂 I love how Maeno used his Kudo voice in Yoidore while Okitsu used his Miyauchi voice here. 😭😭😭 I guess that’s why Ginger Records casted him in the first place. Although Miyauchi is obviously much more negative and cynical than Ise-kun, they’re very much similar in how they deserve to be spoiled!!! I guess he still is Queen Needs To Be Loved!!! I mean, I do want him in more roles like this, but I can’t stand hearing him be hurt! 😭😭😭 *remembers Life Senjou, Kashikomarimashita Destiny, and Owaranai Fukou* *cries harder* That aside, Miya- Okitsu did such a great job as Ise-kun here as expected. This performance of his in particular made me not focus on his voice acting, but the story itself. I kinda did forget that he was Okitsu in the middle of things even. 😂
I was actually betting on Okitsu dominating the overall story line and the mattress mambo (acting wise), so I’m also quite surprised at how they balanced each other out nicely. No one was over-shadowing anyone and the only thing Okitsu swallowed was probably Kenyuu’s cum. Ghorl, I’m not sure how Miya- GOD I SWEAR I CAN’T HELP BUT TYPE MIYAUCHI INSTEAD OF OKITSU Okitsu even survived Kenyuu’s attacks with a straight ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) face bc I would’ve died. I felt fucking violated by Hishimoto-san during their mattress mambo. 😂 If the manga wasn’t enough to make you hot and bothered, this will. 🔥🔥🔥 ALSO, HISHIMOTO-SAN WAS UBER ENERGETIC DESPITE BEING AN OLD MAN BECAUSE THAT BED WAS GONNA BREAK AT HOW FAST AND HARD THINGS WERE GOING IN AND OUT BYE. Kenyuu’s on the rich husky whale club along with Yasumoto Hiroki, Okiayu Ryoutaru, and Tsuda Kenjirou, so just imagine how that turned out.
As for the side characters, as with Yoidore and Remnant, everyone gave their best and everyone was voiced! Although some of their lines have been cut, they still got their exposure (and even our leads had some of their lines cut, too).
This is by far, my favorite adaptation on this log. I mean, this is the last of this log, so I already have to choose the one I think is the best of 2019, but y’all already know that this is the greatest contender because of my obvious bias over Okitsu. 😂 Sorry, Maeno and Saitou Souma. Secret XXX, the closest second, will never win that bc I’m still mad they cut out Shizuma-kun, and I’m never going to let that go. Why am I still beating around the bush when 2018′s best was Kashikomarimashita, Destiny because of Okitsu? Remnant doesn’t count because it didn’t start in 2019.
Back on topic, overall, we had great plot execution, little cuts from the dialogue here and there, and stellar voice acting and chemistry. I definitely recommend listening to the BLCD while reading the manga because even though there are cuts, it’s not that hard to catch up with. I implore you to listen to this if you’re a fan of the series! It maximizes those feels you had while reading the manga! Let’s all hope that the sequel is fluff and gets adapted, too!

Yokozawa continued to protest violently, but Kirishima showed no sign of listening. Quite the contrary, he instead grabbed Yokozawa’s arm and jerked him to his feet, patently feigning ignorance. Yokozawa found himself jerked into his bedroom and tossed onto the edge of the bed, where Kirishima climbed on top of him as he lay on his back. “…!” His breath caught in his throat at their position, Kirishima holding him down by the shoulders as he stared down at Yokozawa. “…You nervous?” “Like hell.” “I’ll take that pissy negation as a ‘yes’. You’re still recovering–so just sit back and relax. Don’t worry–there’s no Hiyori here, so you can take it easy.” “It’s my house–of course she’s not here.” “No Sorata either–so just for today, you can afford to be open and honest, c’mon. Oh and–by the way? You can’t use, ‘I haven’t bathed’ as an excuse this time.” “…” At Kirishima’s comment beating him to the punch, Yokozawa belatedly realized that he’d just gotten out of the shower. Seizing the opportunity with Yokozawa’s voice stalled in his throat, Kirishima sealed his lips with a kiss, his tongue sweeping about his mouth and rendering him boneless. “Ngh…nn…”Damn was this guy good at kissing. If they’d been standing up, his legs probably would’ve given out on him right about now. He’d never disliked their touching one another–but he hated having his senses laid bare and exposed for all to see. Maybe that was why the armor he usually wore was so thick. “You know…you were pretty damn cute in the throes of a fever.” “…Ngh, why you…!” He flushed at having a topic that should’ve been closed brought up again. It was bad enough knowing that someone had seen him in such a state, with all his good sense gone out the window, but he just wanted to die remembering how he hadn’t been sure what was real and what was a dream at the time. “Well, you never smile at me like that usually… Though you’ll do it for Hiyo easily enough.” “What the hell’s the point in being jealous of your own daughter? And if I went around grinning at you like that all the time, it’d be disgusting!” “No it wouldn’t–I thought it was cute.” “…Oh right. That’s just the kind of person you are; I forgot.” His strength left him in the face of Kirishima’s earnest, honest stressing of his feelings, and he flung his limbs splayed out onto the bed. It was stupid to keep fighting him on this point. It was clear he was simply arguing for argument’s sake, and being unreasonably stubborn just made the guy even happier. “Still, I can’t believe I’m still having to remember that ‘Wow, love can be a real bitch sometimes‘ at my age. Feeling worried and regretting immature things I said or did, getting worked up over the simplest little comments…” Yokozawa found himself captivated by Kirishima’s embarrassed grin; maybe all of those outspoken, open comments he bandied about usually were just…to disguise this side of him. “Maybe this is what they mean by ‘finding love in your golden years’.” “What the hell are you going on about? I’m not that old yet,” Kirishima sniped in return, then laughed out loud. If the first one to fall in love was the one destined to be hurt–then they were neither one of them walking away from this unharmed, probably. “…I feel the same.” “Huh?” “I get all–worked up because of you too, you know. So–take responsibility.” “!!” Yokozawa snapped his hand out once more and curled his fingers into the collar of Kirishima’s shirt, jerking him forward and stealing his lips. He forced his tongue inside and initiated a provocative kiss, then slipped his free hand around the back of Kirishima’s head as he sat there shocked stupid and deepened the kiss further. Shoving aside all sense of shame, he boldly ravaged Kirishima’s mouth–if he showed one iota of shyness here, he’d be playing right into the guy’s hands. He slowly pulled away and muttered, “Now this…is me seducing you.” And while a few regrets lingered in the back of his mind, there was no turning back now.

LGBTQ Manga Review - Cocoon Entwined Volume 1
Tumblr media
I feel fairly confident in my assessments and observations of yuri works. I am comfortable openly stating what I like and do not like and providing critical analysis based on my knowledge and experience within the genre. However, as I read Cocoon Entwined, whatever faith I have in my authority goes right out the window like the punk teenage lesbian in a coming of age story. There are aspects of this story such as the importance of heirlooms and reverence for hair that I do not know the first thing about. I can comment on the story, characters, and yuri elements, but I fear that the deeper elements of the manga may elude me. However, my apprehensions will never stop me from enjoying and reviewing a yuri series. Cocoon Entwined is a schoolgirl yuri manga by Yuriko Hara which follows the exploits of the young women at the elite Hoshimiya Girls’ Academy.
Immediately, Cocoon Entwined presents as a class S narrative. It is set in an elite, idealistic all-girls’ school and there does not appear to be any sexual attraction just admiration between the girls. However, this judgment, while only a hair’s breadth away from the truth, does not exactly fit the work. There are elements of the manga that confuse its genre. Horror elements are peppered in via the eerie atmosphere and there are the makings of real relationships and romance within Hoshimiya Academy. The presence of such hidden feelings may be masquerading beneath what is presented in the first volume and, if they do exist, may elevate this work beyond the confines of S.
Tumblr media
The story of Cocoon Entwined is disjointed, frequently flitting between different perspectives and points in time. This method of storytelling results in a confusing narrative twisted between the characters. At times the story can be frustratingly difficult to follow, a fact not helped by the characters, who can easily be confused for each other. Sadly, there is nothing to pull these strands of the story together yet. These factors make the work read like an anthology within a shared world rather than one cohesive story. However, many individual sections of this narrative display real promise, even if they are not woven together effectively.
One of the most intriguing and compelling chapters sees Hana Saeki, the beloved and admired prince of the school, catch the mysterious and distant Hoshimiya, granddaughter of the headmistress, as the latter girl dives out of a window. The two students run away from the school together, escaping the perfect and idealized environment where they both have to assume their certain roles for a brief moment. The encounter is fascinating and effectively creates a bond between the two.
Cocoon Entwined excels is in its setting and atmosphere. There is a tradition in the school of girls growing their hair out to incredible flowing lengths. During the third year of high school, the girls cut their hair so that it can be passed down to a younger classmate in the form of their school uniforms. The school uniforms being made out of hair has a large intrinsic "ick" factor that for many may be impossible to overcome. However, assuming one can stomach the notion, there are some interesting observations to be made.
The young women are poised and elegant, letting their hair grow and protecting it above all else. Having insufficient hair to create a uniform is seen as shameful, and passing the hair down is a proud tradition. The greater ideas here are that of tradition and heirlooms. The way the hair is treated with reverence and then passed on is wonderfully intriguing and creepy. The uniforms themselves are seen as special, and frequently are described as “breathing.” The whole manga is blessed by this wonderful and oddity that can send shivers down your spine, adding greatly to the setting. It is so disturbing and haunting that the manga feels more like an atmospheric horror work than a romance.
Tumblr media
Sadly, while the atmosphere is amazing chilling and individual scenes contain hints of brilliance, Cocoon Entwined does very little in this first volume. There is no real central plot or conflict driving the narrative forward the work greatly suffers for this. Such a plot could also help to pull the disjointed stories together and help streamline the story. The ending hints at some real story and there is plenty of potential for one but this volume does little except introduce the reader to Hoshimiya Academy.
The manga also suffers due to its poorly written characters. The story revolves around three different girls, chief among these is Saeki. Although she is beloved by her fellow students and adored as the prince, she is something of an outsider, being a commuter student. Saeki also privately rejects her title of prince except in one case, when Hoshimiya uses it. However, despite being the most developed of the characters, she does not have any growth and rarely responds to other characters effectively, save the one aforementioned scene with Hoshimiya.
Tumblr media
Hoshimiya herself is a tired trope of a character. She is the elite untouchable girl that no one knows anything about. The only moment with her that sticks out in the whole volume is when she cuts part of her hair and gives it to Saeki. This action, her lack of veneration for her hair puts her in contrast with the other girls of the academy. This action could have great implications, but again the volume does nothing with it.
Finally, there is the timid and fragile Youko Yokozawa. She spends the majority of the manga looking depressed and tearful despite having no reason to. Like Saeki, she is a commuter student, and one of the few people that can see past the facade of the prince. Her connection to Saeki leads her to develop feelings for the prince and become part of her inner world, knowing her secret. However, this bond feels unsupported and weak. Aside from being sad and interested in Saeki, Yokozawa has no real characteristics. Hopefully, future volumes will explore her a bit more.
None of the main characters have much personality and the connections between them feel unsupported. There are whispers of some relationships and possibly a love triangle here, but more work needs to be done to make each character feel unique and to lay the groundwork for their relationships. Ultimately, the hair and uniforms are far more developed and interesting than the main characters.
Cocoon Entwined’s greatest strength is its gorgeous art. Yuriko Hara has a light and delicate style that is perfectly suited to the girls and academy. The illustrations of hair are flowing and wonderful, and at times feel like they move along the page. The environments, especially the garden, and majestic and the uniform design is top-notch. There are wonderful sprawling panels and pages here depicting the girls and their flowing, stunning hair. However, the best moments are when the uniforms are drawn “breathing” with wandering hairs grasping at the girls and the environment. It adds to the chilling atmosphere in such a deep visual way.
Tumblr media
The art is phenomenal but there are a few flaws. The biggest of these is the character designs, which, while adequate, are far too similar to each other. This makes the already difficult task of keeping the characters straight nearly impossible. Additionally, some of the more dynamic scenes, such as a chapter when the characters dance together, feel stiff. The characters and their clothing often looks restricted. The effect is worsened when compared to the long flowing hair that dances across the same panels.
Tumblr media
The first volume of Cocoon Entwined is an introduction, a prelude to what is hopefully a better series. The manga does an excellent job of setting up its world and hints at some intriguing stories. However, future volumes will need to focus the story to a central plotline or conflict and flush out some of the characters. Overall, Cocoon Entwined is dripping with atmosphere, astounding artwork, and potential. The series can easily go from here to be a unique and inspired work or an aimless confused mess. However, on this volume alone it is nearly impossible to tell what the future will hold. Because of this, readers should definitely keep an eye on Cocoon Entwined.

1. Hi! I have a question regarding the Yokozawa no bai light novels. I know you guys at Sept. Scans translated up to volume 6, but mangaupdates says that there are 7 volumes and the series is still ongoing. Is there another volume (7) that’s out? I tried looking around and couldn’t find anything. I assume it’s just a mistake or misinterpretation of the person who updated the page, but just wanted to clarify with you guys. Also do you think there will ever be a continuation?
I know I’m super late to the bandwagon reading these light novel translations. I’ve been following the original Sekaiichi Hatsukoi series for years and saw Yokozawa’s movie when it first came out, but only finally read the light novel trans. It’s been quite a few years since the last one came out, but it ended kind of open still like there are definitely directions a continuation could go to resolve questions or desires we have as readers. But I’m not sure if the Nakamura has expressed interest at all in developing another volume. I adore this couple, Yokozawa and Kirishima have quickly become one of my favorite pairs and have given me a lasting impression. I can’t believe the author and mangaka were able to make a character we hated in the og Sekaiichi series a lovable tsundere teddy bear. Thank you for your translations! I appreciate all you hard work! Have a nice day!
Hi :D I think I recall someone else asking a similar question before, and like you, my search of relevant vendors like Animate and Amazon turned up zilch, and the Kadokawa catalogue (the publisher) only lists 6 volumes. Someone made a mistake when they listed 7 volumes on Mangaupdates, but the ‘ongoing’ status is, I suppose, technically true? In that it hasn’t been formally marked complete by the author. Perhaps someone was counting extra little comics and side-stories (such as the Animate no Baai shorts included as freebies with book purchases, where Trifecta are a side pairing?)? That’s the only explanation I have, because there’s definitely only SIX books out so far.
As for whether there will be a continuation...never say never! Hoooowever...Nakamura seems like the type of person to get really invested in something, pour a whole lot into it (say, six books and a movie) and then get easily distracted by her next arc and move on to a new couple. Heck, one could argue that happened with Chiaki no Baai, as it stopped after 3 novels (I think?) and I don’t believe it ever got picked up again aside from the odd occasional manga short. I get the impression, though, that Yokozawa’s stories were more popular, and that also might have contributed to the well-deserved downfall of Domestica >_>
But to be frank, I don’t keep up with SekaKoi or JR these days, so I’m not 100% sure WHAT she’s really into at the moment. Still, I don’t believe she’s ever really ‘come back’ to a couple’s story once she’s moved on to other topics, unless they’re a major couple that really pulls in readers, like Nostalgia or Erotica.
What happened with Trifecta is a mystery to me, because it really was very popular! It got a movie for crying out loud! I know because I went to see it seven times 8D;;;; They’re SUCH a great couple (for me, the best in the universe for SO many reasons, not least of all because they’re one of like...two or three...that actually have consistently consensual sex lol), and there’s so much more of their story to tell--I NEED TO KNOW HOW HIYO WILL REACT TO FINDING OUT HER ONIICHAN AND HER PAPA ARE DATING. And I really need Yokozawa to become a formal 100%-all-the-time member of their household ;~;
So, unfortunately, I can’t help you. But I can shamelessly plug my 110,000-word fic exploring all of those situations you’re probably curious about but not liable to get an answer from Nakamura on! Thank you for enjoying this great couple :DDDD

Bookshelf Briefs 8/21/19
Accomplishments of the Duke’s Daughter, Vol. 4 | By Reai and Suki Umemiya | Seven Seas – Aside from praising Iris’s innovations, this volume focuses more on the political end of things than the commerce end. Iris ends up attending the ball, and it goes better than she expected, mostly as the Queen Dowager is in her corner. In fact, honestly, things may go a little TOO well—the entire ball seems engineered to show off how the guy who dumped and exiled Iris is a hothead idiot, and Yuri seems to be doing an excellent job of manipulating the country into… running itself into the ground. But how invested should Iris be in all this, especially as she has to look out for her own nation, because there’s war on the horizon. Still an excellent political drama. – Sean Gaffney
Behind the Scenes!!, Vol. 7 | By Bisco Hatori | Viz Media – I enjoy Bisco Hatori’s humor, but her plotting is not a thing to behold. That said, as predicted, things resolved with the Ruka plotline, followed by a quick epilogue showing the film Goda made (honestly, the plot of the film sounds like a manga I’d love to see Hatori write), and then another epilogue several years later showing the two pairings (mostly) resolved and the two stars at ease with themselves and successful. There’s fun to be had here, but I can’t deny that I think this started a lot stronger than it ended, and I’m glad it did not end up as long as Ouran. I’d still recommend it to Hatori fans, though. Oh yes, and the amnesia arc proves to be as inconsequential as I suspected it would be. – Sean Gaffney
Cocoon Entwined, Vol. 1 | By Yuriko Hara | Yen Press – Hoshimiya Girls’ Academy has a unique tradition. The students have exceedingly long hair, and as the middle school third-year students are being measured for their high school uniforms, the high school third-years are finally having their hair cut, which will be used to make said uniforms. Cocoon Entwined so far is light on plot, heavy on atmosphere. We meet Yokozawa, a girl who seems to be able to sense breathing and/or heartbeats from the uniforms, and Saeki, the princely girl whom Yokozawa has feelings for. We don’t meet, except in flashback, the elusive Hoshimiya, granddaughter of the headmistress, who has locked herself in her room and for whom Saeki seemingly pines, much to Yokozawa’s dismay. I really liked this volume, even though there’s not a lot happening so far. I look forward to more, whenever it comes. – Michelle Smith
Dead Dead Demon’s Dededede Destruction, Vol. 6 | By Inio Asano | Viz Media – Thankfully, and despite Kadode assuring her friends that something happened, it’s suggested nothing did, and the teacher is leaving the city due to the ongoing chaos. Honestly, the world may not have all that long to go—even if the aliens don’t bring things to an end, can Japan really hold off America and everyone else? This still has a bit of a post-apocalyptic feel to it. Still, Futaba does end up getting lucky, so to speak, though the implication is that her politics and his desire for a non-serious relationship will make that a very short relationship. The best part of the story was Oran’s surprise birthday party, which was sweet as pie. I hope there’s more sweet moments ahead. – Sean Gaffney
Emanon, Vol. 1: Memories of Emanon | By Shinji Kaijo and Kenji Tsuruta | Dark Horse – I initially picked up Emanon due to Tsuruta’s involvement since I’ve been enjoying Wandering Island; I only later realized that Kaijo is an award-winning author. The Emanon manga is an adaptation of a series of stories written by Kaijo (also illustrated by Tsuruta) featuring a young woman who calls herself Emanon. Kaijo’s somewhat melancholic but engaging narratives lend themselves well to Tsuruta’s atmospheric artwork. There’s very little action in the first volume of the manga. For the most part, Tsuruta is capturing a reminiscence of a conversation between two people, a young man who enjoys speculative fiction and Emanon. She intrigues him, not only because of the air of mystery surrounding her but because she tells him that she holds memories reaching back to the beginning of life on Earth. Memories of Emanon, adapting Kaijo’s original story, is self-contained, but I’m greatly looking forward to the continuation of the series. – Ash Brown
Idol Dreams, Vol. 6 | By Arina Tanemura | VIZ Media – It’s been almost two years since I read a volume of Idol Dreams. I’d stop short of saying it has gotten good in the intervening time—there’s a lot of melodrama here, from the death of Hibiki’s little sister and him carrying on despite his grief (leading to the spectacularly cheesy line, “Sayaka, can you hear Hibiki singing?”) to the plotline revolving around Hanami’s pregnancy and the fact that it isn’t Tokita’s—but it’s certainly somewhat better, and I think that’s because this volume puts much more emphasis on Deguchi as an adult interacting with adults rather than her masquerading as a teen interacting with teens. It was even a little gratifying to see this mousey character haul off and smack Hanami for leaving Tokita at the altar. Do I care enough to keep reading? Maybe, especially if the next volume is the final one. – Michelle Smith
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, Vol. 37 | By Shinobu Ohtaka | VIZ Media – And so, Magi comes to an end. There were some things I really liked about it, like how Ohtaka-sensei showed how Alibaba’s unfailing determination to fight the spell reminded various brainwashed people of other heroes they had known who had sacrificed everything for goals and countries that would no longer exist if everyone and everything returned to rukh. I liked how Kogyoku was desperately trying to get him to surrender to her before the arrival of the massive army in an attempt to save his life. The rest, though, is not completely clear. I get most of what Sinbad did, but I don’t really get how Aladdin emerged victorious. There was a big flash of light and then… happy epilogue? Which I guess is fine. The happy epilogue was what I really wanted, anyway. Overall, I enjoyed this series and its themes of self-determination. – Michelle Smith
My Hero Academia, Vol. 20 | By Kohei Horikoshi | Viz Media – This is an excellent volume, but it’s definitely a “wrap up one plot and start another” sort of book. Midoriya stops the “villains” and we see the small series of tragedies behind their backstory. He makes it back for the festival—just—and it’s a blast, with Jiro at her best (the redrawn art helps) and Eri dazzled. Then we see the new hero rankings post-All Might, and Endeavor is finally top of the charts, but being #1 also means that people are after you as well, and there’s a pretty nasty fight towards the end. Will Endeavor win the day? And will Todoroki care? Great volume, but I think it’s all about Jiro and Eri’s big grins in the end. Those are wonderful smiles. – Sean Gaffney
Shortcake Cake, Vol. 5 | By suu Morishita | VIZ Media – Ten has realized she likes Riku after all and returns early after summer vacation because he’s alone in the boardinghouse. Meanwhile, Chiaki is getting bolder about expressing his feelings. The great part is that not only does he get this pertain to Ten—including a smooch at the end and a “What can I do so that you consider me?”—but to Riku, as well. Chiaki’s oddball personality is starting to come through, and the best chapter here is a cute interlude where he lies about the origins of a cup Riku broke so that they can go out shopping for a replacement together. It involves Riku winning an enormous bag of potato chips for Chiaki from a crane game. I’m not super invested in the romance angle of this story, but I do like the main trio of characters! – Michelle Smith
Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, Vol. 4 | By Tomo Hirokawa, based on the story by Reki Kawahara | Yen Press – There’s an attempt to ramp up the danger here, given that we’re dealing with the death of NPCs, who technically aren’t real people (though honestly, most of SAO has been built around proving that false lately) and the fact that this time you really can log out and go back to your life. But the threat of the game being hacked, as well as users using drugs to “enhance” their experience, means that this time the Japanese government may finally shut down all these VR games for good—something that Kirito and Asuna in particular are determined to stop. Can they help save Premiere from her fate? And what about Anti-Premiere? – Sean Gaffney
Takane & Hana, Vol. 10 | By Yuki Shiwasu | Viz Media – As expected, Okamon is shot down (very nicely) by Hana. Of course, Takane misunderstands. Indeed, the entire volume is about misunderstandings and poor communication, which is always a good fallback in romantic comedies like this one. We also get the backstory on how Takane met Nicola, and how, like Hana, he was at first completely annoyed by him till he saw his hidden nice side. There are not quite as many amusing faces as previous volumes (though the omake helps make up a lot of the difference). But in return we do get a bit more on the romance front, as a drunken Takane (they had a birthday party for him) ends up kissing Hana… on the nose. That said, the effect is devastating. Fun times. – Sean Gaffney
Yuri Life | By Kurukuruhime | Yen Press – We’ve seen quite a few yuri anthologies about adults lately and this one is a 4-koma one-shot, with each chapter focusing on a different couple, until we come around to the first one at the end. There are couples I found interesting. (One involves the Grim Reaper waiting for a woman to die, falling in love with her, and then having her romance be what enables the woman to keep living… so they have to part.) I will say they are “mostly” adult romances… one is teacher-student, with the student being sixteen, and it didn’t work for me. Nor did the one about the “yandere.” Still, there were more hits than misses, and if you’re looking for cute, sweet yuri that won’t stick in the head, this is decent enough. – Sean Gaffney

Day 5 Glasses/Close
Day 5 of @takaritsuweek 😊
***
Oh no.
Oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no oh no.
Ritsu held what remained of Masamune's broken glasses in his hands, in full blown panic mode now.
In a way this was really was Masamune's fault anyways! It wasn't like Ritsu had willingly come over to his apartment, no Masamune forced him to come over to 'spend time together' or whatever. Not to mention, who leaves their glasses sitting on the couch?! Yes, this was entirely Masamune's fault! This wasn't Ritsu's fault at all! If Masamune had been more careful with his glasses or hadn't dragged Ritsu over here in the first place, then none of this would have ever happened!
Ritsu felt like a child desperate to hide a mess from his parents in order to avoid getting in trouble. If it were anybody else's glasses then Ritsu would immediately confess to destroying them before profusely apologizing and offering to pay for a replacement.
However, this was Masamune they were talking about. Masamune wouldn't want money or a new pair of glasses from Ritsu, oh no, he would hold this over Ritsu's head for the rest of his life in order to guilt trip him into dates and to come over to his apartment and who knows what else!
"Coffees done."
Ritsu jumped out of his skin at the sound of Masamume's voice, instinctively stuffing the snapped frames into his pocket before Masamune could spot them.
"Th-th-thanks!" Ritsu said, forcing a bright smile.
Masamune raised an eyebrow, sitting beside him and handing him his mug. "Is everything okay?" He asked, their hands brushing together as Ritsu accepted the coffee.
Ritsu was hyper aware of the touch in his frazzled state, his cheeks turning a bright pink as he nearly spilled the drink. "Yup! P-Perfectly fine, everything's fine!" He laughed nervously before taking a drink and burning his mouth. "Ow!"
"Be careful, idiot!" Masamune scolded, setting his own mug down to gently take Ritsu's face into his hands. "Let me see." He said, getting far too close for comfort.
Ritsu jumped back, almost spilling the coffee again. "I-it's fine, I'm fine!" He said.
Masamune frowned and took the coffee back from Ritsu, setting it down. "At this rate you're gonna get this all over my couch, or worse, give yourself burns. Now tell me what's wrong. Do you have a fever or something?" He reached out again, pressing his hand on Ritsu's forehead. Sure, Ritsu was usually nervous around him, but this was getting a little bit suspicious.
"I-I told you, I'm fine." Ritsu said, swatting his hand and looking away.
Masamune frowned. "Are you sure?" He asked, now concerned. Was there something Ritsu wasn't telling him? Did his mom call while he was making coffee and stress him out? Has Yokozawa been getting on his case again?
"Y-Yes, positive." Ritsu grabbed his coffee again and blew on it before sipping it more carefully. He then set it back down and decided that the best course of action was to stare at his lap in order to avoid Masamune's intense gaze.
"Ritsu." Masamune took his face in his hand again, making him look at him. "You're making me worry." He said. "If there's something wrong I want to know, so I can help you. Don't take on burdens by yourself when I'm right here for you to lean on." He moved closer, taking one of Ritsu's hands and placing it on his own cheek, leaning into the touch. "Your problems are my problems too."
Well, now Ritsu just felt silly. "I-It's really nothing that serious." He said. "I promise."
Masamune scanned his face for any sort of deception or lying, but found nothing. He nodded. "Okay. I believe you."
Ritsu flushed when he realized his hand was still on Masamune's cheek and he quickly pulled away. "You're so embarrassing." He mumbled. "Saying all those things with such a straight face..."
"That's because I mean them." Masamune said.
Ritsu merely shook his head, taking a deep breath to try to calm himself down. Hearing Masamune say such sweet things made him feel extra bad for breaking Masamune's glasses. "There is...something wrong, though." Ritsu admitted.
Masamune frowned. "What is it?"
Ritsu slowly reached into his pocket and held out the broken glasses, bowing his head. "I'm really, really sorry, I sat down without looking and accidentally broke them! I promise I'll pay you back for them!"
Masamune picked up the ruined glasses. "This is what you got so worked up about?" He asked. "You really are an idiot."
"H-hey!"
"I have a spare pair." Masamune assured. "But seriously, you had me scared for a second and all over some glasses." He said, shaking his head as he set the pieces aside.
"How much were the glasses?" Ritsu asked.
"Don't worry about it." Masamune said with a shrug.
"Please, I want to pay you back." Ritsu said.
"Oh, you'll pay me back, just not with money." Masamune assured, reaching out to ruffle his hair with a smirk. "Go on a date with me this Saturday."
No! That was exactly what Ritsu had been afraid of!
"A-Absolutely not! Just tell me how much the glasses were." Ritsu said.
Masamune sighed. "100,000 yen."
Ritsu balked at the ridiculous amount of money. "Th-They were not 100,000 yen!"
"The cost of the glasses with emotional damages on top of that for rejecting me and ruining my favorite pair."
"E-emotional damage?! Don't be stupid, Takano-san!" Ritsu huffed.
"It's either that or a date this Saturday. And possibly as many dates as I want after that as well. After all, just one date can't possibly make up for it. I really liked those glasses."
"I knew you were going to do this, this is exactly why I hid it in the first place!"
Masamune just shrugged. "Well, maybe you shouldn't go around breaking people's glasses."
"W-well, maybe you shouldn't leave your glasses laying around!" Ritsu retaliated, but Masamune only gave an affectionate smile.
"Maybe. But either way, you still owe me. I'll be at your door at seven on Saturday and I'm dragging you out whether you're ready or not." Masamune said.
"This isn't fair!" Ritsu complained, pouting.
"Don't care." Masamune said with a shrug before he scooted closer, taking Ritsu's hand in his. "Maybe it's a good thing you broke my glasses. Now I have an excuse to get close, can't see your face from too far away after all." Masamune said, leaning in.
Ritsu put his hand on Masamune's forehead and pushed him away. "Go put on your spares right now!"
Masamune in fact did not get his spares, instead opting to continue to tease the brunette.
A pair of broken glasses was a small price to pay to see that blush.

Chapter 2: Lost in Sacrificial Fate ~Daily Life, Part 2~
//Here it is! The second part and the conclusion to the daily life of chapter 2, hope you guys continue to enjoy this little series. Not much to say this time around so I’ll just let you read.
-Chapter 2 Daily Life, Preparations Begin!-
“Alrighty everyone! Welcome to the first meeting of our amazingly awesome talent show! I’ve already written up a schedule and posted it around the campus, so make sure you read it when you get the chance!” Irunami-san announced.
“The important thing right now is that we all divide up the workload. There’s a lot of set-up that’ll be important to the success of the talent show, and I expect everyone to take it seriously. There are three job groups we’re gonna focus on. Tech Crew, Costume & Props, and Special Effects.” Shinko-san pulled out a clipboard with a piece of paper stuck to it.
“Listen up, the tech crew will consist of Graves, Okanaya, Kurohiko, Kurosaki, and Yokozawa. Costume and props will be Ram, Asano, Kurohiko, and Nagata. Special Effects will be Hachi, Ishikawa, Sly, Okanaya, and myself.” Shinko-san read the names off.
“H-hold on, why am I in two groups?! And why was Irunami-san not included?!” Kurohiko-san complained.
“I have to focus on my performance. I got a lot of super dangerous stuff lined up so if I don’t keep practicing, I’ll probably screw it up!” Irunami-san explained.
“Plus, Okanaya-kun is also taking two roles. You shouldn’t complain so much.” Yokozawa-san said. “More importantly, would special effects usually come under the tech crew?”
“Some things are gonna be very lighting-based. So, we decided to split up the lighting team from the special effects team, but I’ll go into detail with that group myself. Leave it to me!” Hachi-san gave a thumbs up.
“Then for now let’s begin working on the show. Good luck to everyone, let’s do our best!” Irunami-san said.
We all split into our groups and began working on our different tasks. Irunami-san stopped by to tell our group what we would need to make for the talent show. Asano-san and Ram-san both have experience with sewing so that certainly makes them the costume heads. Whilst Kurohiko-san and I were left with creating and gathering props.
As we worked throughout the day, I managed to find myself enjoying this odd sense of unity among the group. Even though we all barely knew each other, we were working to one goal together. Hopefully we can continue to stay like this until we find a way to escape.
-Chapter 2 Daily Life, Bonus: The secrets of the pool-
“Haaaaah…” Amaterasu-san sighed deeply. Huh? It wasn’t like her to look so down…I wonder if something happened?
“Amaterasu-san, are you okay? It’s not like you to look so down.” Or look anything other than bored. Amaterasu-san pouted a little before she spoke.
“Toson-chan’s really been working the performers to their limits…I don’t know how much more of this I can take before I snap. I can’t just drop out the talent show though…I think I just need to find a way to relax.”
“That might be hard. There isn’t much to do around here.” I murmured.
“Yeah. That’s the big issue. I suppose there’s that swimming pool in the leisure building, but I dunno…”
“What if you invited a bunch of other people to join you? You could go swimming as a group?” I suggested. Amaterasu-san stared at me for a few moments before nodding slightly.
“Yeah okay. I’ll see you there then.”
 “H-huh? Me?”
“Yeah. You came up with the idea, so you should be one of the people there. I’ll figure out who else to invite, so I’ll meet you there later.” Without listening to any reply, Amaterasu-san walked away. Geez, I just can’t get a word in when it matters most…
 -----
“Nagata-san, you got invited too, huh…?” When I arrived at the pool, Kurohiko-san was already by the poolside, kicking his legs in the water. He was in his swimming trunks, and he kind of proved just how scrawny he actually is. Not that I can really say anything.
“Yeah, I was the one who came up with the idea. How did you manage to get here first?” I asked. Kurohiko-san’s expression seemed to darken.
“When Amaterasu-san gave me the invitation, I think I blacked out from shock. By the time I came around I was already changed and here. I don’t really know what happened in between then and now.” Geez, this guy is something else. “B-but it’s cool that I’m not the only guy here. Who else was invited, do you think?”
“No clue. It’s hard to understand Amaterasu-san’s thought process. The only we’ll find out if seeing who’ll turn up.” I said, sitting down next to Kurohiko-san. The pool was kind of cold, but not so bad that anyone would recoil from the first touch.
“Ah…I’m so nervous. D-do you think Amaterasu-san’s the type to wear a bikini? Or a one-piece?” Kurohiko-san asked, his face slightly flushed.
“Does it matter…?” I raised an eyebrow.
“N-no, I guess not. Amaterasu-san has the type of figure that allows her to look good in whatever, not to say the other girls have bad figures or anything, they all look really pretty but they’re all different kinds of pretty, y’know? Like how Ishikawa-san is very gothic in her look, but it suits her, y’know? That kind of vibe works for her-“
Kurohiko-san finally stopped rambling when the door to one of the changing rooms opened up. “Uwah! I wasn’t the first one!” Graves-san whined. She was dressed in a pair of neon blue swimming shorts and a black baggy t-shirt, her hat still atop her head.
“So, Graves-san was invited too, huh? I suppose Amaterasu-san is really hoping for a party.” Kurohiko-san laughed awkwardly.
“When Ammy told me about the swimming thingy, I couldn’t help but get excited! I’ve never went swimming with people my age…well, outside of training, anyway.” Graves-san said. Man…being a secret agent must have seriously been tough.
“Um, Graves-san…what’s with that outfit? Are you planning to swim in that?” I asked. Graves-san blinked and looked at her outfit.
“Were you expecting a bikini? Are you a pervert, Ryuu? I just find this more comfortable to wear, it might be weird here but plenty of people wear this to swim in Canada.” Right. Graves-san isn’t Japanese. I don’t know how I keep forgetting that.
“That’s not it. Never mind, it doesn’t matter.” I sighed. Arguing with Graves-san is probably a losing fight anyway. Quickly after, the door opened, this time it was the boy’s changing room.
“Yo! Nice to see some others here!” Okanaya-san grinned.
“S-seriously, what’s with that outfit?!” Kurohiko-san said with surprise. I have to admire Okanaya-san’s confidence to come here only wearing a dark blue speedo. This guy is full of surprises, I can’t believe it sometimes.
“Eh? What’s wrong with it? It’s got speed in the name, and we’re racing today so I wanna go as fast as possible.” Racing? What? Is he seriously so simple? “Plus, you can’t say I don’t look good.”
“Dude, you’re ripped as fuck!” Graves-san exclaimed. Yeah, it was true. Okanaya-san was pretty muscular, though his usual outfit made him look pretty average. No wonder he’s got confidence in his looks.
“You know we haven’t been invited to race, right? It’s just, like…a pool party.” Kurohiko-san said. Okanaya-san frowned with disappointment. “Geez, you’re something else. You hear one thing and assume the other half.”
“I-is there something wrong with that?! I’ll beat the crap outta you if you got a problem with me!” Okanaya-san cracked his knuckles.
“H-hey now!” I calmed him down quickly before anything got out of hand. A few moments later, the door opened from the female changing room.
“Oh, what a wonderful gathering. Amaterasu-sama has picked a rather interesting group for this event.” By the words alone it was obvious that Ishikawa-san had arrived. Though her outfit…a black bikini with a bow and ruffled skirt. I was a little taken aback with the difference between her usual gothic attire.
 “H-hey, Nagata-san…Ishikawa-san…she’s, um…her body is a lot different than I expected.” Kurohiko-san mumbled.
“Oh? Do I appear odd in this outfit? It was the only swimming outfit that was in my size.” Ishikawa-san explained.
“No, you look fine. He’s just being a dork.” Graves-san assured her.
“Do not worry, Kurohiko-sama. You are a teenaged male, if you are embarrassed by girls in swimsuits, you are not alone. You should enjoy your life before the eternal slumber comes for you.” Ishikawa-san smiled.
“Wh-why am I being called out like that?!” Kurohiko-san’s face flushed.
“You make it way too easy, dude.” Okanaya-san snickered.
“Oh, has the event started already?” We all looked over at Asano-san who was approaching us. Instead of being in a swimsuit though, she was in a pastel pink Lolita dress and was carrying a matching parasol.
“Asano-sama? You do not plan on swimming?” Ishikawa-san frowned.
“I am not allowed to get wet. Strict instructions from my parents that I cannot go against, I am afraid.” Asano-san explained. Seriously? Why did she even bother coming if that’s the case…? No, that’s a little harsh. “I will happily watch the rest of you though. I’m sure it will still be an enjoyable time.”
“It’s a little hard to believe that, but if you say so.” Kurohiko-san sighed.
“Is this everyone, aside from Amaterasu-sama?” Ishikawa-san asked. There was a good number here, so Amaterasu-san will probably appear soon.
“Once she’s here, I’m gonna challenge her to a race! I’ll definitely beat Amaterasu!” Okanaya-san hit his knuckles together and grinned. “Nagata, you’ll race too, right?”
 “H-huh, me?!”
“You could use the exercise, by the looks of it.” Gee, thanks. You shouldn’t be saying that with such a carefree smile.
“Cool. Everyone’s here.” Amaterasu-san’s voice echoed into the room.
“Ah, Amaterasu-san glad you’re he-GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! A-Amaterasu-san!?” Kurohiko-san’s face went beet red, not that I can blame him. Amaterasu-san was standing there with her usual neutral expression though she wasn’t wearing a swimsuit. In fact, she wasn’t wearing…anything. “C-cover up! Cover yourself up right now!” Kurohiko-san covered his eyes.
“Ryuu, look away!” Graves-san suddenly turned and pushed me away, I felt my footing disappear and hearing the sound of a splash. Did Graves-san really need to push me in the pool?! “Crap, sorry about that!”
“What’s the big deal?” Okanaya-san raised an eyebrow. “If I didn’t wanna go fast, I would’a came in the buff too.”
 “Th-that’s a completely separate issue in itself…” Kurohiko-san side-glared him.
“Ah, are we all wearing swimsuits? Sorry, didn’t realise it was that kind of party.” Amaterasu-san said. Thank god for her hair being as long as it is.  “I’ll go find a swimsuit. I’m sure there’s one in the changing room somewhere.” Amaterasu-san turned and walked back into the changing rooms.
“S-seriously…! Is anyone normal in this place?!” Kurohiko-san cried. “N-not to say deviation from the norm is bad, but, y’know-“
“I’m just gonna stop you before you go any further.” Graves-san cut him off. When Amaterasu-san came back, now dressed for swimming, we all began to enjoy our time at the pool. Amaterasu-san and Okanaya-san had their swimming matches though Amaterasu-san would come out on top each time, much to Okanaya-san’s annoyance.
Ishikawa-san and Asano-san sat on the bleachers at the side. Ishikawa-san said she didn’t want to risk her flesh peeling or something grotesque like that, but I think she just didn’t want Asano-san to be sitting by herself the whole time.
Kurohiko-san mostly stayed on the pool’s perimeter acting almost like a lifeguard. Amaterasu-san was pretty rowdy in the pool, so he had to act like animal control for her. Though the bright atmosphere even made me smile and I even raced Okanaya-san once, though it’s obvious I lost.
I forgot how much I actually loved swimming with friends.
-Chapter 2 Daily Life, The Talent Show-
After the days of work, we finally managed to finish off the preparations for the talent show. The lighting was set up and majority of the group was sat in the audience. Though because some of the stunts are a little dangerous, a first few rows were left empty. It was a little harder to see the stage, but it was fine overall.
“Alrighty everybody! Welcome to the talent show!” Hachi-san announced. I looked around the audience and saw that not quite everyone was present yet. The performers were probably backstage getting ready, but Okanaya-san was missing too. Kurohiko-san too. “I just want to thank everybody for helping make this whole thing a reality, we couldn’t have done it without all of you! Without any further ado, let’s enjoy the show!”
There were a few cheers from the audience.
“Let’s kick this off with our talented death-defying duo! Yuuki Kurosaki, and Doi Kurohiko!” We clapped as Hachi-san skipped off stage. Kurosaki-san walked on stage first, a paled Kurohiko-san following hesitantly behind.
“For our act, get ready for…” Yuuki produced a selection of different sized daggers, “my amazing knife-throwing skills!”
“Wh-why am I still being forced into this?!” Kurohiko-san complained.
“Hush now, if you die then they’ll all know I’m the killer so there’s nothing to worry about~!” Kurosaki-san clapped, pushing Kurohiko-san against a wooden board and position him to stand straight.
“There’s a bigger issue than that!” Kurohiko-san said.
Luckily for everybody, the knife throwing act went without any problems. Thank god. Kurosaki-san bowed and thanked the audience and carried off a wobbly Kurohiko-san. Poor guy is always getting dragged into this sort of stuff.
Next on was Shinko-san who was showing off a short film he shot the past few days. It was about a young girl played by Ishikawa-san who was best friends with this girl, played by Asano-san. Her friend would go about killing other students in her school though at the end it’s revealed that Ishikawa-san’s character was actually the killer and she killed everyone who tried to break her fantasy world that she created Asano-san’s character in. Though the suspense made it hard for me stomach, yet I couldn’t turn away. Shinko-san really deserved his title, there’s no doubt in my mind.
Next was Irunami-san’s routine. From the wings, fog started to fill the stage on both sides. A lot of fog, actually. I guess Irunami-san was gonna do a bit more than a typical hypnosis routine.
“Man, it’s kinda hard to see.” Graves-san commented.
“Herr Okanaya must’ve turned the fog machines on early.” Kurosaki-san sighed. He and Shinko-san had joined the audience after their sets were finished. So Okanaya-san is helping backstage? I was wondering where he was.
“Hopefully it won’t throw off Irunami-kun.” Ram-san said with a frown. A few moments later, Irunami-san walked on stage and faced the audience.
“Alrighty, let’s see what we’ve got! Hmm…okay, I guess I should start it off like this, shouldn’t I?” Irunami-san began talking to himself. Geez, is this guy even prepared? “Oh, I’ll start like that! Then I’ll need a volunteer…hmm…Shin-chan! You come here and help me out!”
“Ehhh? Again?” Shinko-san growled, getting up from his seat.
“Ah, where is he?” Irunami-san asked, probably trying to peer through the fog.
“Yeah yeah! I’m right here, keep your head on!” Shinko-san made his way towards the stage.
 That’s when it happened.
There was the sound of something snapping and before you could even blink, the lighting rig above the stage came crashing down onto the stage. It was so unexpected, Shinko-san fell back into his backside. We all stood up from the audience in shock. “H-holy shit, what the fuck?!” Shinko-san exclaimed. “Th-that c-could’ve hit me…!”
“Hit you…?” Ishikawa-san repeated slowly, her expression became grave. The fog had been cleared a little because of the lighting rig falling, so the stage was slightly clearer. “I-Irunami-sama?!” Ishikawa-san ran towards the stage. When she called out his name, it all dawned on the rest of us.
“Irunami-kun!” Hachi-san’s voice came from behind me, as they darted past me and towards the stage. Shouldn’t they have been backstage getting ready?! I couldn’t think straight right now, I just felt my legs move automatically as I ran up the steps to the stage. Standing in the wing I saw Okanaya-san staring at the stage, completely pale, his fists balled up at his side.
Then I saw the scene. The world came to a sudden halt.
As the fog continued to clear further, the body of Sadao Irunami, the Ultimate Hypnotist became visible to the rest of us. He was laying on his stomach, blood was sticky in his hair and matting it, a broken stage light cracked next to his body.
“Wh…o-oh my god…” Yokozawa-san covered his mouth, looking ready to vomit. “H-how could this happen…? A-an accident…?” An accident? The lighting rig just fell without warning, was this really a freak accident?
 ~Ding Dong, Bing bong~
The monitors turned on and displayed Monokuma sitting on his throne. “A body has been discovered! After a certain amount of time, a class trial shall be held! Better get investigating!” The monitors turned off.
“The body discovery announcement…?” I murmured. If that’s the case…
“Accident or not, if the body discovery announcement played then one of us is accountable for Irunami’s death.” Sly-san said, a piercing glare focused on Kurosaki-san. Kurosaki-san’s face was completely blank though.
“Th…that can’t be right though…” Hachi-san spoke weakly. “Wh-why…? This is just a big trick. Part of the show…right? So, get up Irunami-kun…because there’s no way he could be dead.” Hachi-san gripped the sides of their head and let out a scream. “WHY IS IRUNAMI-KUN DEAD?!!”

Help it’s 1 AM and I can’t stop thinking about the idea of Ritsu and Yokozawa slowing falling in love over the course of SIH.  I need to release my tension:
Ritsu’s apartment building stood silent as the growing stillness of the night became too unnerving to handle.  All the recent developments, stress, and of course him; the young editor could feel himself slowing starting to break apart.  He didn’t want to show it, no, he didn’t want anyone to get the satisfaction from seeing the leading heir of Onodera publishing loosing his mind over manga for young girls but right where he stood, in the dead-stillness of his empty apartment building, all he could do is collapse at his feet.
“Oi, what are you doing.” an unfriendly voice called out.
Something once empty was now filled with tension.
“Y-yokozawa-san, what are you doing here?” Ritsu asked timidly, unable to take his eyes off the sinking ground beneath him.
“Checking on Sorata, what the hell happened to you?” the man asked with little interest.
Onodera sighed before asking the man, defeated, “Do you ever have times when you feel like the whole world is watching you fail over every single minute detail, like your whole life had been just a circus act to show how pathetic a human being could get?”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
The former didn’t respond, unable to form a coherent answer.  What good could it do anyway, Yokozawa was just another one of his viewers anyway.
Takafumi sighed, confused at the unusually-apathetic state of the young editor.
“Listen, I don’t know what you’re going through but I’ve seen your results and I think you’re being too hard on yourself.” Yokozawa stated, slowly moving himself adjacent to the currently sinking-Onodera.
“Starting as a new editor is always going to be tough but you know what they say, life isn’t without its challenges.”
Ritsu slowly looked up, surprised at the attempts to cheer him up by the Bear of Marukawa.
“Do you really think I’m doing okay?” Ritsu murmured.
“Jesus, don’t go fishing for compliments-” the older man had replied before being interrupted with Ritsu slowly leaning further and further into Yokozawa’s shoulder.
“H-hey, what are you doing monopolizing me?”
“Sorry, it’s been kind of a rough week and, this is nice.” Onodera replied, blushing slightly at the increased contact between the two men.
Unable to brush him aside, Yokozawa wrapped his other arm around the man who always seemed to brush his feelings aside but now seems more vulnerable than ever.  Almost like another man that he once had taken care of yet-no this was something entirely different, or at least that was what he wanted to believe.
A strange warm feeling seemed to envelop the two as the deafening silence of the apartment turned to that of comfort.
“Yokozawa-san?”
“Yeah?”
Slowly, Ritsu raised his head up to face the man, allowing Takafumi to see the younger editor’s face in its entirety for the first time.  The last thing he had remembered was a gentle kiss being placed on his bottom lip and the slightest whisper of a thank you before the rest became history.

“Hey, what’s wrong with your hand?”
After meeting Kirishima at the place they’d agreed upon, Kirishima had immediately noticed. He had planned to hide his hand and pretend nothing had happened, but it was futile due to Kirishima’s sharp eyes.
“...I hurt it accidentally while working.”
Yokozawa’s left hand was bandaged due to accidentally cutting his finger with a knife during work.
Promotions of books were based upon the types of source material, and sometimes those in sales would make the promotional materials themselves. Yokozawa had been doing just that when he’d accidentally hurt himself.
As the wound was deeper than he’d expected, just in case, he’d gone to a nearby hospital. He sighed in relief when he heard that he didn’t need stitches, though. To prevent the wound from reopening, the doctor had bound his hand tightly, so he couldn’t move his fingers very freely.
He’d thought that since it was his left hand that was hurt, it wouldn’t affect his daily life that much, but it turned out to be surprisingly inconvenient.
“No wonder you told me to get takeout today. Why didn’t you tell me your hand was hurt?”
“It wasn’t exactly a serious injury, there was no need to specially report it to you.”
Yokozawa hadn’t wanted him to worry.
“What do you mean, not serious? Your hand is all bandaged up, it has to be a pretty deep wound!”
“The doctor just overly bandaged it, that’s all.”
“It must be hard to shower like that. I’ll help you.”
“There’s no need. I won’t die if I don’t shower for a day.”
“Even if you don’t mind, what about Hiyori? What if she says Onii-chan stinks?”
“Oh...that…”
Yokozawa only thought about it for a moment, but it hit him. If she really said that, he’d probably be upset for quite a while. But allowing Kirishima to help wash him, Yokozawa still had some resistances. It was Kirishima after all, it wouldn’t be as simple as just showering.
“What are you worrying about? I won’t do anything weird.”
“Really?”
“Have I ever lied to you?”
“That’s not exactly right.”
Though Kirishima had never said a malicious lie, he had however gone against what he’d said before. Usually in bed.
“There’s really nothing to it. You worry too much.”
“Whose fault do you think it is?”
“Hmm? Whose fault indeed ~”
Clearly Kirishima knew what he meant, but he pretended not to. His daughter Hiyori was always so direct, so why was he the opposite?
“It’s not like we’re taking a bath together, no need to be so on edge.”
“...Then, you can help wash my hair.”
In the end, Yokozawa decided to accede.
-
“Does it itch anywhere?”
Kirishima, with his sleeves rolled up and washing Yokozawa’s hair, seemed pretty happy. Yokozawa sat on a small stool while Kirishima was on the edge of the bathtub, bending down. His left hand was wrapped in a plastic bag to prevent contact with water.
“No, it doesn’t. Just finish it.”
“What are you talking about? You’ll still need to put conditioner.”
“There’s no need for that.” Aside from never using conditioner for his hair, Yokozawa went to barbershops instead of beauty salons to cut his hair. Kirishima and Hiyori, however, seemed to cut their hair at the local beauty salon.
“That’s because I want to do it”
“...”
Seems like he should just follow what Kirishima said. He’ll just tolerate it for a while more.
“I used to wash Hiyori’s hair like this too. After she started school, she said ‘I can do this myself’ and didn’t allow me to do it.”
“Children grow up so fast, huh.”
Of course, it was Hiyori after all. She didn’t want to give her busy father any trouble and decided to deal with her own issues herself.
After living with the Kirishimas, he was often surprised by how fast she grew up, especially since Hiyori was a girl. She often said things that were more mature than he’d expect.
“Even if it’s like that, you still get lonely sometimes. I’m going to wash out the soap, close your eyes.
“Sure.”
Kirishima used warm water to start washing the shampoo from the back of his head. When others helped him wash his hair, it felt better than doing it himself, for some reason.
“I haven’t washed out the soap from the front of your hair. Lift up your head, remember not to open your eyes.”
“I would have done so without you telling me.”
He wasn’t a kid anymore, he knew what to do without being told.
“Lift up your chin a little.”
“Like this?”
“A bit higher.”
As Yokozawa lifted his chin up higher, something bumped his lip. “...! You said you wouldn’t do anything!”
While Yokozawa wasn’t prepared, Kirishima had planted a kiss on his lips. Yokozawa felt slightly annoyed about Kirishima breaking his promise.
“I only said I wouldn’t do anything weird. This isn’t anything weird.”
“T-that’s! How many times do I have to say not to-Ow ow ow, the soap got in my eye!”
“Don’t rub it, I’ll wash it out with water.”
“Whose fault did you think it was-”
“Didn’t I say not to open your eyes?”
“You-!”
Even though he wanted to chase Kirishima out of the bathroom, he wasn’t exactly in the most advantageous of situations. He was completely naked, not to mention the soap still in his hair.
“Papa, Onii-chan, what’s wrong?”
Hearing their squabble, Hiyori had come to check on them.
“Nothing. The shampoo got in Yokozawa’s eyes, so he just kicked up a fuss about it.”
“Hey!”
Because Kirishima’s excuse wasn’t exactly very helpful for his image, Yokozawa got flustered. He didn’t want to leave a bad impression of himself in front of Hiyori.
“What, did you want me to tell her the truth?”
“Still, that was an underhanded move!”
“Call me a strategist. I’m going to put on the conditioner, move your head closer.”
“I know, don’t nag.”
Because he couldn’t get his hand in contact with water, he couldn’t say what he really wanted to. In the end, he was still wrapped around Kirishima’s little finger.
Listening to Kirishima happily hum, Yokozawa swore to get revenge on him some day.

As if rising to the water’s surface from the seabed to which he’d sunk, Yokozawa slowly roused to consciousness, and as he woke, he found himself staring dazedly up at the ceiling. It’d been a while since he’d slept so well. He usually found himself forcibly woken from a mud-like sleep, but today he awoke feeling remarkably refreshed. “…I’m starving,” he muttered to himself without realizing it and slowly eased himself upright. Did he even have anything in the kitchen to eat? “I’ll bet you are. Morning; how are you feeling?” “Can’t complain…wait, what? Why’re you here?!” The guy had poked his head into Yokozawa’s room as if it were his own, startling Yokozawa. “What, lost your memories again? And after I nursed you through the night–ungrateful ass.” “Eh…?” Yokozawa’s thought processes screeched to a halt at the comment invoking a sense of deja vu. The first time, he’d paled in shock–but this time, his face simply heated up with a flush. All those things he’d said and done because he’d thought it was a dream–that had all been real. Even setting aside the whole ‘nursing back to health’ part, he’d said so many unbearably embarrassing things. Kirishima chuckled at the obviously agitated Yokozawa. “Wait–don’t tell me you thought it was all a dream or something, right?” “…!” He bit back a response, and Kirishima’s shoulders shook all the harder. “Bullseye, huh? I thought you were being rather honest back there… So that‘s what it was, huh? Well, I’ve got it all filed away in my long-term memory so I guess I don’t mind either way.” “Forget it! Right. Now.” “No~t a chance, it’s too good to waste.” At Kirishima’s response, Yokozawa massaged his forehead. The pain had lessened, but now new stress was plaguing him. Still…when he thought about it, it was a little late to worry about Kirishima seeing him in an embarrassing state. Maybe being overly sensitive to it just gave your opponent more opportunities. In other words, if he could turn the tables on the guy–he wouldn’t have to be teased as much as he was. Granted, he didn’t see himself being that bold any time soon, but at least pretending it was the first step. “…Do whatever you want.” He rose from the bed and slipped past Kirishima, headed for the kitchen, where he filled a glass with water and downed it in one gulp. “Now that‘s an unexpected response. You usually put up more of a fight than that.” “Like I can put up with dealing with you on every little matter. And forget that–have you seriously been here the whole time?” He didn’t even have a couch that the guy could’ve napped on. While he did have an extra futon for guests, it was currently sitting way in the back of his closet, so the only real place anyone could’ve rested was the bed. Which meant Kirishima likely hadn’t been exaggerating when he’d professed to nursing Yokozawa through the whole night. “Til around sunrise. I checked on you and then dropped back by my place for a few. Oh–I made sure to feed Sorata.” “Sorry for the trouble–really,” he apologized anew. “Who said it was any trouble?” “…Thank you.” When Yokozawa changed his phrasing, Kirishima turned on him a smile that seemed to say good boy. “You’re welcome.” He often wondered if he wasn’t on the same level as Hiyori in Kirishima’s eyes at times like this. Hell, maybe he was even lower on the totem pole.
