Why i love ASGORE so much (o´▽`o)

Well i don’t really know where to start but i think Asgore is such an amazing character…the first part is a bit of prelude to meeting him so feel free to skip the ramble…

you first only hear of him (other than in the history book at home) when Toriel warns you against leaving the ruins and mentions Asgore in red text and telling you that he will likely kill you along with the other monsters. However you here of the same man as “Mr.Dreemurr” described papyrus who describes him as a nice guy who would gladly let you free from the underground. Undyne mentions his full name and clarifies that they are the same person when she talks about him collecting the final human soul…You hear of him a couple of more times until you finally leave the Core to get to the capital, Alphys tells you that you need a boss monster soul to reach the surface meaning that you must kill Asgore, she looks visibly distressed and runs off to her lab. At the next SAVE point, there’s no cheery message ‘filling you with determination’…there’s only silence…(this may possibly be do to either your dismay or Chara’s if you go according to the Chara being narrator)

You only first see much of him in new home. The first room is the living room with 2 padlocks welcoming anyone to come in and talk if they need to get anything off there chest (this made me burst into tears…but i can’t really say much since the game made cry 17 times) you see his home almost identical to Toriel’s. But everything is grayed out as if theres something missing…(and you learn about how he lost two children in one night and then having his wife leave him) the armchair is unused…he has crumpled recipes for the same butterscotch pie Toriel gave you, trying to recreate his old memories. There’s still snail containers in the fridge…he even offers food to any guest who arrives in his castle. You see in his room old projects Chara made for him. The diary in his room (more on that later) and even the sweater for “Mr.dad guy”…he longs for the past where he was once the father of a happy family…you finally enter the last corridor and then the throne room…Asgore turms around amd greets you…and then looks shocked. He’s in immediate distress knowing that your a human. He knows that his job is to take your soul but he still tries to comfort you. He’s reluctant to fight and gives you every chance to turn back. When you finally reach the barrier he introduces the magical seal of of the underground and offers to go back…if you decide not to fight he’ll let you know that you can take the time you need. Even just to take a short walk or read a book. If you go back he’ll ask…”How are you feeling?” He still cares. But once the fight starts he destroys the mercy button. Not because he wants to kill you but most likely because he believes he doesn’t deserve mercy…i wish there was a way to give him that mercy…At 0 exp if you’ve refused to inflict pain he’ll listen to your words and he’ll even be moved to the point of his stats lowering. Eventually all you can do in the end is to fight. I’ve never fought Asgore myself but once you reach him down to 1 Hp he’ll yield down and begin telling you the rest of his story. How Toriel was disgusted by his decree against humans…

people in the fandom have spewed hate on him for his morally ambiguous actions…but what could have he done? His killing isn’t justified in any way but he needed to give hope to the monsters…and he was filled with grief and anger toward the humans for killing his children (he knew nothing of Chara’s planned death)…with all that…and all that he’s been through, why was he so hated? i wish there was more empathy in this world…so many people have suffered and isn’t undertale about kindness and empathy toward others?

If you fight he dies smiling glad that he’ll finally rest in peace and justice will be served for his actions…if you spare him, he’ll offer to take care of you and even hopes to be a family again…but flowey takes that dream away before you can even accept…

Tw: suicide and if Flowey doesn’t kill him under the right circumstances (If you fought him already and spare Asgore again) And give him mercy, he will realize that his wish is just a fantasy and speak about the prophecy of the angel who will free the underground. Placing the burden upon you he compares you to chara with the hope in your eyes and knowing of your powerful soul. He’ll take his life and give you his soul…”I am sorry I could not give you a simple, happy ending…but i know that this would have been what my son…ASRIEL…would have wanted…” and then…he turns to dust…he was willing to sacrifice his life for the underground and hoped to repay his misdeeds…even though he never deserved it…

However in the pacifist route Toriel intervenes…and thankfully he’s spared…Toriel rejects him and Asgore asks just to be friends again but Toriel rejects even that…He’s gone through so much and even past the underground can’t reunite with the one person left from his family (I used to be an Asgoriel shipper because i so badly wanted to have him not alone again) He’s such an amazing father and husband who has led his kingdom through thick and thin. He still manages to be a strong leader and caring at the same time…he’s kind and understanding to Alphys for her mistakes and was like a father to Undyne…He’s such an amazing character and so hunky i mean…handsome…no no! I meant his majestic beard….oh gosh…>///<…(´,,•ω•,,)♡

(Mushy warning) Honestly Asgore is such a kind, strong and fatherly character that truly deserves his happy ending…here’s a list of positive traits of his…

sans undertale would not make i fucked your wife jokes. people want to make jokes about sans fucking asgore's wife but sans the character would NOT do that r you kidding me. you can cut the secondhand embarrassment with a knife every time they're in the same room together, sans likes the guy, i bet he feels genuinely kinda bad for asgore. he'd be like sorry about the dating your ex wife thing. to be fair she's a really cool ex wife. and asgore would be like (rescue shelter dog sigh) She is.

#i do think he would keep things polite but distant in the early days post pacifist because tori doesn't want anything to do with him #but after some time passes and they became tentative friends he probably like. asks him to manage the grill at the cookout together #gifts him a HUGE sized pair of socks right back for that other time #cracks some jokes. like they seemed to be on pretty good terms in the game #undertale #sans #asgore #soriel

Just thinking. Gaster had been in the void for quite a long while, surely long enough to where he was used to not seeing anything. So when Sans teleported him out, I feel like suddenly having light in his eye would've left him hissing in pain as he shields his eye, and all the dialogue that's in that scene gets put on hold for several long minutes XD

TRULY THE GREATEST PUNISHMENT OF ALL assuming eye sockets work for skeletons like that, haha.

Gaster swearing is like :o but I was thinking about that one older comic where he swore in front of the brothers and they started copying him, much to his dismay. Not a common thing, but sometimes!

I was saving this ask to make a little comic of how that last chapter felt but- lets say it didn't turn out how i wanted. Instead, i just dug out some of my old Maid-chan drawings and stared at them blankly for the next days.

I'm still particularly fixed on this one little page:

Mister Green was my absolute favorite and the only light i saw at the end of her tunnel. He was so kind and sweet, and pretty much the only one that treated her like a person (besides Yellow of course). When i first read this fic so many years ago i didn't trully realized the dark tone of this story but i still chose the only "healthy" option. I wanted MC to be happy and free, and oh how i wanted him to give her that. I held those drawings of him for years imagining a chapter where they would encounter again and that would drive her to a better ending (either skeletons overcoming their issues and treating her with respect or him taking her away).

But then this final chapter appeared and it was... a thing.

(Kinda spoilers for the babes that haven't read it)

First of all, I FINALLY GOT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AFTER BEACH CHAPTERS OMG I NEEDED THAT

Second of all, it didn't look good at all and it was getting worse as I read. But then good because it was a week alone for her to rest and Sans was eating with her?? But also that whole scene reminded me how bad her situation really was so it actually wasn't good at all.

And then the scene that broke me.

I was aware that I wanted her to flee before, but I never thought she could.

It was oddly satisfying, if not a bit anxiety inducing because of the thought that they would caught her eventually. As always.

But then Asgore, and Orange. And nothing...

I got mad that he found her. Which was a weird feeling since I remember liking him a lot. It felt to me like he ruined her good enough ending. But despite that, it makes sense it was him so I don't complain.

What crushed me though, wasn't that she couldn't say goodbye or that Sans got tired of trying to get her back. It was the fact the Gs didn't even try looking for her. They didn't even got mentioned. What happened there, I wonder. Didn't they like her? Care for her? Mister Green wrote her letters, of course he liked her. But then why...?

Suddenly he looked like a fairytale.

The ending was great, finally lending her the ability to choose. It made absolutely everything worth it and the way it was written made me feel like I do have a say in the matter. And for the first time, i didn't choose the skeletons.

I realized she could find her happy ending alone.
