We have a blog!! (we have a BLOG??!)
Ok, y'all, it's getting real. I mean, not only do I now own a business (what??!) but I have two businesses and a blog. A BLOG (??!!) 2 things I can honestly say I never saw myself doing. Seriously, if you told me a couple of years ago I  would be doing this now I would have told you you were crazy, or used one of my newly mastered Southern phrases, "Aww, bless your heart".. My first exposure to blogging, I have to admit, was in the movie, Julie & Julia where an average Joe (Joann?) like me aspired to become the next home cook sensation by cooking her way through Julia Child's Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Yes, while as a self-proclaimed "foodie" I salivated over the food, I was also enthralled with Julie's relatablity, her mastery of languange, and the way her fans followed her week to week to see what would happen next.
Did she make mistakes? Yes.
Were her recipes perfect? No.
Was she endearing and engaging, and captivating? Hell yes. (And, as any good Southern woman should, she rocked a set of pearls!)
And I think that's what pulled me in the most: the fact that this very real, flawed, relatable person was engaging so thoroughly and honestly with her audience.. an audience who was eating it all up and couldn't seem to get enough or wait for the next week's enstallment! I honetly can't say that that movie inspired me to do anything other than cook and eat more, ha ha, although now that I face the world of blogging I find that I am channeling Julie, simultaneously striving to be both clever and humble, engaging yet accessible, successful yet realistic...
So here I am. Starting a business and blogging about it. What? Who am I and what did the world do with the old Jen? The introvert who struggled so long to be comfortable in her own skin- the one who truly "found" herself well past 30, after all my life plans had seemingly fallen apart. I will be forever grateful for those who helped me glue these pieces back together and become the bigger (could have skipped that part!), better, stronger version of myself that I am today.
I suppose  I've always been a writer, prefering to put pen to paper than airing  my thoughts, worries, fears, and grievances out loud. Working as an ICU nurse and then an ER nurse practitioner has significantly thickened my skin and made me more comfortable with confrontation, more apt to talk to a stranger, more incloined to speak my mind... You have to have the heavy talks. You have to be real with people. You have to stand up for yourself and for your patients. It's unavoidable. Whether confronted with underperforming colleagues, difficult patients, or demanding visitors, you have to learn to speak up and express yourself clearly and professionally. I can do it. But this.. this writing.. this is my comfort zone.
Blogging is really just a more public form of journaling, and I am a firm believer that journaling is immensely therapeutic. So, my friends, you become the voyeurs into what will now become my public journal. I'll share with you my thoughts and fears and feelings as I endeavor upon this new journey, seeking to become my own boss while ultimately still giving back in the best ways I know how.. We will share health and wellness tips, hash out life, skin, health, wellness, and relationship concerns, throw in a joke or two, and ultimately hopefully create a safe space for talking about those things that matter most to us. Stay tuned, we have some exciting things in store!
xoxo,
Jen

The next big thing in beauty and blog world!
Allow me to introduce myself –
I go by the name Charece, but I've always had a fondness for my childhood nicknames, Rece or Reese. I am deeply passionate about the world of beauty and I have made it my career as a stylist and permanent makeup artist. Despite being 35 years young, my heart is filled with the joy of being a mother to eight incredible children, with another one on the way.
From a very young age, I held on to the dream of being a part of the beauty industry. I would spend hours braiding and experimenting with innovative hairstyles, and as time went on, I dedicated my entire career to the pursuit of all things related to beauty.
Through hard work and dedication, I obtained a license in permanent makeup and I am currently pursuing my studies in cosmetology. I have eagerly taken part in various trainings, constantly seeking to broaden my knowledge, refine my skills, and build an impressive professional portfolio that showcases my expertise.
Learning has always come naturally to me, particularly when it comes to visuals and hands-on experiences. When it comes to my work, I am driven by an unwavering passion and a deep commitment to delivering superior and exceptional results. My unique talent, combined with a genuine love for what I do and a strong desire to assist others, allows me to always be available to help customers both look and feel their absolute best.
I have an immense love and passion for the beauty industry. I am deeply committed to bringing about a positive transformation in how women and society perceive the beauty of women.
My unwavering dedication stems from the realization that the way we view women and their beauty has a profound impact on their self-esteem and overall well-being. It is crucial that we foster a more inclusive and empowering perspective, one that celebrates diversity and allows women to embrace their inner and outer beauty with confidence.
I firmly believe that every woman deserves to feel beautiful, regardless of societal norms and standards. Through my work, I aim to challenge these norms and pave the way for a more inclusive and accepting beauty industry.
In order to bring about this change, I have immersed myself in understanding the needs and desires of women from all walks of life. By listening to their stories and experiences, I am able to gain valuable insights into their unique perspectives on beauty.
With this knowledge, I strive to create a space where women can feel seen, heard, and celebrated for their individuality. This involves showcasing a wide range of beauty representations, including different body sizes, ethnicities, ages, and abilities. By doing so, I hope to inspire women to embrace their own unique beauty and empower them to define it for themselves.
I am committed to providing women with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to enhance their self-confidence and cultivate a positive self-image. This includes sharing beauty tips, promoting self-care practices, and offering advice on embracing one's true authentic self.
I am also dedicated to collaborating with other like-minded individuals and organizations who share the same vision of a more inclusive and empowering beauty industry. By joining forces, we can create a collective voice that demands change and challenges the status quo.
Together, let us reshape the beauty industry and foster a society that values and appreciates the beauty of all women.
Please support us in this endeavor by following us and subscribing to my newsletter in the link below. Feel free to also join me on the platforms listed below as well.

Anyone else finding it hard to believe that Mother’s Day is less than a month away? ⏰ It seems like 2022 so far is mostly a state of disbelief at how quickly time is passing. 🤔 Since we haven’t figured out how to pause time (we wish) so that we can all catch up, we can talk about some easy ways to maximize Mother’s Day for your beauty biz, especially if it’s snuck up on you. 🎁 We see it often, so much effort put into creating spa packages, services and promotions tailored to moms that a lot of times fall flat in sales dollars. 😔 💕 The most successful Mother’s Day promos we have experienced all have the same thing in common - outside-the-box thinking to put these offers in front of the right eyes. 💭 Consider your clientele - if it’s largely made up of moms, for the most part they won’t be purchasing Mothers Day offers for themselves…so does the person in their life who might be seeking the perfect gift for them seeing what you have to offer? 🙏🏻 Thankfully technology makes it easier than ever to promote your Mother’s Day specials to the right person! Here’s some creative marketing we have seen and loved: 🔹 collab with local barber or popular hangout spot for men to promote and make an easy purchase. Return the favour for Fathers Day 🔹social media contests/giveaways that involve loved ones being tagged by your clients so your business is top of mind 🔹wish list or registry service so Mom gets what she wants (via email or in-person) 🔹a special service or offer for Mom’s who didn’t get what they hoped for 😂 (trust us, this was great thinking!) 🔹”To A Mom From a Mom” specials. Let’s be real moms usually know exactly what another mom might want to receive. A special service your clients can gift to a mom in their life for a special price is a great way to get new clients! DM me if you want me to share my suggestions 💞 #mothersday2022 #mothersday #momsday #mothersdaygift #momsday2022 #skindeepformulations #tamtalks #skinlogicbyskindeepformulations #canadianestheticians #estheticians #beautybiz #sixfigures #sixfiguresesthetician #sixfigurebusiness #beautypro #beautyentrepreneur #growthmindset #growyourbiz #tamtalk #tamtalks (at North America) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcXU__4L3wj/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Now that I have your attention 😉 I wanted to write a very special #thirstythursday post about "opportunities". Unfortunately the word "opportunity" has become a four letter dirty bird word to me. Why? Because these days it is commonly used to try to sell someone on doing something for free or for signicantly less than what they should be paid....what I affectionally refer to as a "money screw".
Artists new and seasoned fall victim of this hustle, so I want to share with you some of the common ones so that you can resist temptation. Please don't think that you will be that one unicorn that will be the exception and that it will work in your favor. You would have better odds buying a lottery ticket! Here are five examples of #moneyscrews to avoid and why:
1. Any product company photoshoot for their website, instagram, print etc. - It typically sounds something like: "New clothing company doing photoshoot for their website. A great opportunity for a new artist to get experience and images." NOPE...this is a job...the company will be using the images to sell their products and they will be making money off of those images with your work.
2. Working photographer/producer trolling on Craigslist, Model Mayhem, Thumbtack, etc. looking for hair/makeup - They will usually name drop a big client or magazine they have work like "Vogue photographer doing a passion project. Great opportunity for the right person." They know how to find people and they have a full rolodex of people they work with and know how to find them. But they would never dream of asking them to do that shitty favor so they go looking for the low/no budget bitch that will get sucked in. This is not your ticket to working with them on something fabulous...trust.
3. The non-internship - This is an actual job being given the title of internship. It sometimes looks like this: "Company looking for social media intern. Intern would be responsible for running company social media. Great opportunity and resume builder for the right person." That is a job straight up. An actual internship you would be learning from the person doing this job and not be the person responsible for the job! When I see these listed I usually screen grab and send to the screen along with a link to the department of labor. And if you wonder why just Google Conde Nast intern lawsuit and you will understand why.
4. Multiple people in a day photo shoots - That is a paid testing situation. No photographer is just going to shoot a herd of aspiring models in one day in a bunch of looks unless there is money involved....and that is called paid testing. That means there better be money for you too. Don't get sucked into working for images.
5. Low paying job off casts by other makeup/hair artists or other creatives. These will usually get posted because the person who took it got a better paying offer and is now looking to fill it to keep their options open with the low payer. Or they believe that we don't really do anything and therefore shouldn't be paid that much or nothing at all. They start out with "I know it's low", or "This is my good friend's passion project", or "Great opportunity to break in" or something along those lines. These same artists tend to think that any money is good money which I completely disagree with and will talk about in depth in a future blog post. This is also why it is so important to have a grasp on what rates should be so that you don't take a job and later find out that you should have been paid double or triple that rate. That person isn't going to magically pay what you should have gotten later and will then refer you to other like-minded people.
These are 5 #moneyscrews that immediately came to mind...do you have one you'd like to share? Is love to hear it! And make sure you are signed up for my mailing list because I will be sharing tips on how to respond to the money screwers September 1st with my subscribers. You don't want to miss out!
Love and Lipstick,
Margina
