I put Barry Finnerty's old guitar case that came with his Gibson Johnny Smith guitar in front of the AFM Local 6 musicians union on 9th street - it was shot - to see how long it would take 'til somebody walked with it: 5 minutes. Maybe it's still kicking around the Tenderloin in San Francisco, California somewhere ha hah - that g'tar case had seen plenty of action since high school days - Jon Hammond

Are the Eagles close to trading Zach Ertz?
Are the Eagles close to trading Zach Ertz?
This is the story that won’t go away, at least while tight end Zach Ertz is still on the roster. The rumors date back to last offseason, when it was reported that Ertz wanted a new contract but he and the team couldn’t agree to terms on an extension. Tensions were high. Ertz was seen in what appeared to be a verbal altercation with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman. But then nothing…

“Easy Comes Easy Goes” (Jazz Instrumental) (1994)
I made this track 28 years ago. There’s a story. What had happened was:
I started my career in record promotion. I used to be Director of Marketing and Promotion at Mercury Records (This was right before I went to Loud) and on the roster there were artists EdO.G as well as Diamond D. Diamond did the original track for EdO’s album called “Love Comes and Goes”. My secret was (and is) that I am also a musician. Legendary DJ Teddy Tedd knows this. We spent quite some time geeking out over records and instrument sounds. So he and I hatched an idea to work together. We pitched an idea to A&R dude Brian Chin that we should try a jazz remix - but with live instruments. I was as much into the acid jazz/rare groove scene as I was hip hop and house, so I was well aware of the synergies happening. If you  have memories of Under Acme or SOB’s or Wetlands in NYC in the early 90s - yes, I am the same guy.
Anyway, the idea was that we’d leave the original drums D used, but we’d find a key and jam. See what happened. I called Maurice Bernstein of Giant Step, who managed the Groove Collective,  an actual band with records out. We booked a session, which Mercury would pay for, and then, the piece that made the day extra special - Brian was able to get Umar bin Hassan of The Last Poets for the session. Jazz. Spoken word. Live. This was 1993. Anyway, we jammed. Jonathan’s bassline came after about an hour of trying stuff. When I heard it, I knew where we were going with this. The rest of the session was almost recorded live in one take once we all heard it. After four hours of laying everything down and some solos that were amazing, Umar came in and did vocals. Ted and I mixed. We went home. I would do  one more mix for Ed, a “mixshow edit” for another track on this same album. I didn’t change much of that track, though. Just brought the drums and bassline up a bit. It worked.  Mixshows played it more than they did the album version.
Interesting thing was that the big focus on this release was that RZA did a track for Ed and a friend of his from Boston (Scientifik- RIP) called “As Long As You Know” that was BANGING. Once I heard that, I figured my little jazz track would get cut, never be heard again, and I’d just move on. In fact, I ended up working at Loud about 6 weeks after this session, and one way or another, my life would forever be intertwined with the name Wu Tang. I had NO designs on being an artist or producer, but as a musician, you do wanna get out there once in a while and get loose.
This track made it on the record, and I own copies, but I never thought to look it up  to see if it was streaming anywhere until I was looking for something else entirely last night, and this came up.
Here are the credits  for this session:
Bass – Jonathan Maron Flute – Richard Worth Keyboards, Producer – Daryle Lockhart Producer – Teddy Ted Saxophone – Jay Rodriegez* Trombone – Josh Roseman* Trumpet – Fabio Morgera Vibraphone – Bill Ware

Marvel vs. WCW (1990s?)
WCWWW: Where did the idea of a Marvel vs WCW cross-over come from? What was your role in this project?
Ruben Diaz: As the editor, I commissioned it and was part of the pitch to WCW.
I worked on the pitch for the WCW/MARVEL crossover somewhere between 1998-2000. The most we got out of it was producing a mini-comic for a toy license of theirs. S.L.A.M. Force, I think. Bill Roseman wrote it and Michael Ryan did the art. The premise had the WCW characters at the time as agents fighting supernatural threats. It served somewhat as a proof of concept that never went anywhere either. We had other spec scripts to show how we’d handle the characters, with one that involved Chris Benoit meeting up with Wolverine.
A few artists drew pin-ups and a sample of sequential art that I recall you may have uncovered. Adam Pollina did Hulk vs. Hulk. JJ Kirby did a sick pin-up of Goldberg. Oscar Jimenez did a spectacular Sting in a cemetery.
WCWWW: Were there any issues regarding the project? Any idea why the concept was never picked up??
There was no significant reason why WCW wasn’t interested in pursuing the crossover or having Marvel package their characters in the comics medium. Perhaps if the toy line would have taken off. Who knows if the powers that be in WCW at the time might have felt that such audacious scenarios with their characters undermined kayfabe. WCW’s “universe” was always less fantastical than WWE’s. Maybe it just wasn’t the right approach. Considering they didn’t go with another publisher it’s safe to say comics likely didn’t fit into how they wanted their brand to be identified. It’s all still conjecture.

Q: How much do I know about sports off the top of my head? I’m bored, so let’s find out.
NFL:
NFC West (one of the strongest divisions ever):
Seattle Seahawks. Key (and less-key) players: Russell Wilson (QB), DK Metcalf (WR), Tyler Lockett (WR), Freddie Swain (WR), Greg Olsen (TE), Colby Parkinson (TE), Damien Lewis (G), Duane Brown (T), Ethan Pocic (C, I think?), Chris Carson (RB), Rashaad Penny (RB), Travis Homer (RB), Michael Dickson (P), help what’s the kicker’s name, Jamal Adams (S), Quandre Diggs (S), Bobby Wagner (LB), KJ Wright (LB), Jordyn Brooks (LB), Poona Ford (DI), Jarran Reed (defensive... line somewhere), Shaquill Griffon (CB), Quinton Jefferson (CB), Tre Flowers (CB), Benson Mayowa (DE), Carlos Dunlap (DE), Alton Robinson (DE), Shaquem Griffon (DE), god I can’t remember the new slot corner but he’s pretty good I think. Coach: Pete Carroll. OC: Brian Schottenheimer. DC: Ken Norton, Jr. GM: John Schneider. Owner: Jody Allen. Notes: Every game is close. Used to always run, but this year always throws. Quarterback is basically magic. Defense is severely lacking. My home team, obviously.
San Francisco 49ers. Key players: Jimmy Garoppolo (QB), George Kittle (TE), many fast running backs, Raheem Mostert is one of them, Trent Williams (T), Richard Sherman (CB), Nick Bosa (DE). Coach: Kyle Shanahan. Notes: Running game scheme is a work of staggering genius. Best player is a tight end for some reason. Went to the Super Bowl last year.
Arizona Cardinals. Key players: Kyler Murray (QB), Larry Fitzgerald (WR), DeAndre Hopkins (WR), Christian Kirk (WR), Budda Baker (S), Patrick Peterson (CB). Coach: Kliff Kingsbury. Notes: Runs many wide receivers, in scheme Kingsbury got from coaching college. Used to be bad, but getting better each year. Kyler is very small.
Los Angeles Rams. Key players: Jared Goff (QB), Cooper Kupp (WR), Andrew Whitworth (T), Darrell Henderson (RB), Aaron Donald (DI), Johnny Hekker (P). Coach: Sean McVay. DC: Used to be Wade Phillips, but not anymore. Notes: Runs a lot of plays from the same formation. Coach is very smart. Made the Super Bowl two years ago. Best player is a defensive tackle, for some reason.
NFC East (the worst division in NFL history):
New York Giants. Key players: Daniel Jones (QB), Saquon Barkley (RB). Coach: Joe, uh... Douglas. GM: Dave Gettleman. Notes: Spent a huge amount of draft capital on players the numbers said weren’t worth it. Seems accurate.
Philadelphia Eagles. Key players: Carson Wentz (QB), Jalen Hurts (backup QB), literally everyone else is injured. Oh, Jason Peters (T). Coach: Doug Peterson. GM: Howie Roseman. Notes: Everyone is injured. Everyone. Went to the Super Bowl 3 years ago and won with their backup QB.
Dallas Cowboys. Key players: Dak Prescott (QB, injured), Andy Dalton (backup QB, injured), No one of note (third-string QB), Amari Cooper (WR), CeeDee Lamb (WR), Ezekiel Elliott (RB), Leighton Vander Esch (LB), Greg Zuerlein (K), I could probably name more if I tried hard enough. Coach: Mike McCarthy. GM: Jerry Jones. Owner: Also Jerry Jones. Notes: Every year they have good players and lose anyway. Paid their running back instead of their quarterback. Also, now they have no healthy quarterback.
Washington [used to have a racist name]. Key players: Dwayne Haskins (benched QB), Alex Smith (QB... whose leg does not work), Kyle Allen (QB), Terry McLaurin (WR), Chase Young (DE), Montez Sweat (DE). Coach: Ron Rivera. Owner: Dan Snyder, who is the worst human being in the NFL, and that is saying a lot. Notes: No one cares about the football, Dan Snyder should be in jail. Also, Ron Rivera has cancer and Alex Smith’s leg injury almost killed him, so those guys deserve better.
NFC North:
Detroit Lions. Key Players: Matthew Stafford (QB), um, I should remember some more. Jeff Okudah (CB). Coach: Matt Patricia. Notes: Stafford deserves better. Patricia keeps signing ex-Patriots players, and it doesn’t work, presumably because the good ones are current-Patriots-players.
Minnesota Vikings. Key players: Kirk Cousins (QB), Adam Thielen (WR), Justin Jefferson (WR), Dalvin Cook (RB), many good defensive players whose names I don’t know. Coach: Mike Zimmer. Notes: Historically a good defense and just missing a competent QB. Paid a lot for an average QB; defense sucks now for some reason. Also, runs a lot.
Chicago Bears. Key Players: Mitchell Trubisky (QB), Nick Foles (QB), Allen Robinson (WR), Khalil Mack (DE). Coach: Matt Nagy. Notes: Has been wasting great defensive performances with poor to average quarterback play since World War II.
Green Bay Packers. Key Players: Aaron Rodgers (QB), Davante Adams (WR), Allan Lazard (WR), Aaron Jones (RB), Jamaal Williams (RB), Robert Tonyan (TE), David Bakhtiari (T), Za’Darius Smith (DE), Preston Smith (DE). Coach: Matt LaFleur. GM: Brian Gutekunst. Owner: “The fans.” Notes: Has started a hall-of-famer at quarterback every season since before you were born. Winning big but the analytics say they’re getting a bit lucky lately.
NFC South:
Atlanta Falcons. Key players: Matt Ryan (QB), Julio Jones (WR), I forgot the new WR’s name but he looks legit, Todd Gurley (RB). Coach that was recently fired: Dan Quinn. Notes: Have become known for inexplicably blowing enormous leads late in games. It’s quite funny, at this point.
New Orleans Saints. Key players: Drew Brees (QB), Michael Thomas (WR), Alvin Kamara (RB), Taysom Hill (listed as backup QB but just kinda does weird shit on offense), Jameis Winston (backup QB), Cam Jordan (DE), I should remember the cornerback’s name. Coach: Sean Payton. Notes: Known for having tons of talent every year, salary cap be damned, and then losing in heartbreaking fashion in the playoffs. Brees is getting old.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Key players: Tom Brady (QB), Mike Evans (WR), Chris Godwin (WR), this one WR who can go eat shit, Rob Gronkowski (TE), Antoine Winfield Jr (S), Vita Vea (DI). Coach: Bruce Arians. Notes: Signed Tom Brady. It’s working pretty well. Defense is top-tier. The most balanced team.
god, who is the other NFC south team, uh...  hold on, lemme get back to you.
AFC North:
Baltimore Ravens
Pittsburgh Steelers
Cleveland Browns
um... Cincinnati Bengals? Maybe?
AFC East:
New York Jets
New England Patriots
Miami Dolphins
Buffalo Bills
AFC South:
Houston Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Tennessee Titans
uhh... Indianapolis Colts.
AFC West:
Denver Broncos
Kansas City (I think this name should be changed too, honestly)
Las Vegas Raiders
I guess this must be the Los Angeles Chargers?
Oh, so the other NFC South team is the Carolina Panthers. Of course. Key players: Teddy Bridgewater (QB), Christian McCaffrey (RB and also arguably their best receiver), Yetur Gross-Matos (DE). Coach: Matt Rhule. Notes: Rebuilding their team this year, but quietly doing pretty well, considering.
Alright, I’m gonna stop there. Didn’t even get to the other half of the NFL, let alone started to try and list NBA/MLB/NHL teams, which would have gone extremely poorly. Story for another day.
Also, uh, yeah, this is a normal amount to know about football as someone who doesn’t watch football, oooobviously...

2021 NFL hot(ish) takes NFC edition
Second verse same as the first let’s get into it.
NFC West
4. San Francisco 49ers- it’s clear that Jimmy G isn’t anything more than a discount Alex Smith and trey lance will need some time getting used to the next level. In that time the others in your division has only gotten better and San Francisco is just going to get injured
3. Seattle Seahawks- it’s not that they’re a bad team not at all it’s just the other two are better and in spite of a 12-4 record last season Seattle is no longer a Super Bowl team but a playoff team. Could they finish 1st? Yeah do I expect them to? No.
2. Arizona Cardinals- the NFL’s retirement home welcomes two new members in JJ Watt and AJ Green the Cards just missed the playoffs last season and with these two joining the team Arizona should be looking to improve on their 8-8 year.
1. LA Rams- it pains me to say this it really does. Mathew Stafford has always put up good numbers while quietly suffering in Detroit and now it’s time to put up or shut up with a real team behind him. You better home it works McVay otherwise the Rams are going to be fucked.
NFC South
4. Atlanta Falcons- the NFC South has always and continues to be a shit show with how inconstant their teams are. That being said last years les than stellar season and not doing anything to improve on it leaves me to put you in last.
3. Carolina Panthers- well Teddy Bridgewater didn’t quite work out for y’all so welcome to the stage Sam Darnold. Let’s see what the prize QB can do with an actual team and coach. I’m guessing 6-11
2. New Orleans Saints- well for the first time in two decades Drew Brees is not your #1 QB now we get to see how well Jamis Winston will lead you. While he’s better than his infamous 30/30 season it’s certainly a step down. On the somewhat bright side you’re be the best team in Jacksonville!
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers- well back to back super bowl titles don’t happen much but when you bring back all 22 of your starters the year after winning the super bowl it’s kind hard to argue against them not at least winning the division. Age is the biggest threat to the team right now.
NFC North
4. Detroit Lions- the lions are not actively trying to win (are they ever?) and we can see this when they traded away one of the best QBs they’ve every had for Jerod Goff.
3. Chicago Bears- there’s quite a bit of excitement around Chicago with the addition of Justin Fields in the draft but now we have to question how far this team can go with Matt Nagy as head coach. It’s certainly not going to be far if this season doesn’t progress like expected.
2. Minnesota Vikings- we know the ceiling for Kirk Cousins and it’s definitely not super bowl. The way this team is built they’re not getting any further than the divisional round miracles or not.
1. Green Bay Packers- well somehow Aaron Rodgers is suiting up in the green and yellow of cheeseland once again. Enjoy it packland it very well might be the last time the MVP does it. Enjoy the ride. On the bright side you still can boast to be one of the better teams in the NFC. And if things fall apart you can fall in Love with your new QB
NFC East
4. New York Giants- it might have been a mistake to draft saquon Barkley to give Eli some extra life instead of a quarterback back in 2018. Give the fact that Wikipedia has the last four years as “further struggles” on the giants article tells me Joe Judge has his work cut out for him.
3.Philadelphia Eagles- so this is what selling your soul for a super bowl looks like? The cabinets have been cleared out (minus Roseman?) and now we get to see what the two headed giant of Gardner Memshew and Jalen Hurts goes. As you can tell probably not well I’m guessing.
2. Washington Football Team- you know the WFT monicker is starting to grow on me. That being said it’s going to be an uphill climb to repeat as Division champions but you’ve got a fair shot. Ron Riviera, Ryan Fitzpatrick on his 80th team and a very ok defense. Let’s see how the [redacted] react to playing some of the tougher teams this year.
1. Dallas Cowboys- can you hear it? The sounds of a million smug assholes feeling superior? It’s coming and the sad thing is with Dak back, Elliott, Cee Dee Lamb, and an underperforming Defense they have to be favorites for the East. Heaven help us all if the cowboys win a playoff game.
Playoff time!
1. Tampa Bay- as much as I’m not confident in them repeating they still are one of the best and don’t really have a challenger in the division like they did last year in New Orleans.
2. Green Bay- Can you keep the streak alive and loose in the NFC title game again or are you finally getting over the hill and give Aaron his second super bowl appearance. Nows your chance.
3.Dallas Cowboys- the Cowboys are going to be a very flashy team that gets a lot of wins against a sad NFC East but just like the tradition of thanksgiving football the Cowboys loosing in the playoffs is set in stone.
4. Los Angles Rams- it’s do or die for stafford. Can he lead this team to greatness or is he going to cement himself as discount Dan Marino.
5. New Orleans Saints- is this a Super bowl team? No probably not but they’re still very talented and the city of New Orleans needs a win after the Hurricane.
6. Arizona Cardinals- can Arizona Tech light the playoffs on fire once the Kingsburry-Murray gamble pays dividends? No probably not but they’re a good sleeper pick. And hey Josh Allen took the Bills to the AFC championship game in his third season so maybe?!?
7. Minnesota Vikings- eek into the playoffs and hope for a playoff miracle to finally go your way maybe? Stranger things have happened but it’s an uphill climb.
The NFC has a lot more parity than their counterparts in the AFC with a lot of rising teams and teams looking to cut a path into the Super Bowl and that should make this season a blast to watch. As much fun as it would be to shitpost and say the Buccaneers beat Green Bay to play in the Super Bowl again in going to go and say it’s the Packers finally

Howie Roseman explains awkward moment with Tom Donahoe
One of the most real moments from the NFL’s annual reality show happened in Philadelphia. After making defensive tackle Milton Williams the 73rd overall pick, Eagles G.M.
