For Silver and Black, any headcanons about the other engines at the IRM? I wonder if Pilot, 1630, and the electroliner get along since they’re the ‘faces’ of the museum. There’s also that Q Hudson, 504, 9925 and 9976. They probably all hang out as the Q club lol. I wonder if they like the BN units?
The IRM is practically a chronic and compulsive character designer's dream. I could spend the rest of my life making little guys out of their roster and probably not ever get bored, so you can bet DJ (@greatwesternway) and I have spent the past 13 months doing exactly that lol.
1630 was absolutely one of the first ones we worked on after Pilot, given that she's so iconic and important to the IRM. Engines with stories are far and away the easiest to write for, and 1630 has a great one. Plus, she's a face as you say! I like to characterize her as a bold and confident problem solver, especially having read some of the old Rail & Wires from the time period when she was undergoing restoration. Her first trial run went so well they had her pulling trains even though she was supposed to just be fired for testing, and that to me informs so much of her personality. She was ready to work from the jump! She's obviously besties with Shay 5, being that they've worked together for so many years, and I like to think they're sort of the de facto ambassadors for the steam department with the rest of the museum.
The Electroliner, I'm a little embarrassed to say, I only got around to learning about recently even though I was struck immediately by the design. I like to picture her as a more blue-collar version of the Zephyrs, streamlined and modern but still very much of the people. I haven't explored her history that much since we haven't gotten there in the letters yet, but I'm excited to learn more! I think she and Pilot get along really well, but that's sort of a given since Pilot gets along with everybody.
Some other characters at the IRM that get some play in the discussion are The Goddesses, who all have unique personalities and have been cropping up more frequently in the letters. We've also casually written some thoughts down about the other Pullman streamlined cars (Birmingham and Loch Sloy) as well as quite a few of the diesel shunters, since they're literally always out doing stuff at the IRM, and it's easy to fall in love with the engines that are constantly out there working. Our favorite so far is the Commonwealth Edison 15 shunter because he's grey and the last time I saw it out, it was switching the aforementioned Pullman cars around and @joezworld joked that he was going, "Look! I'm a streamliner!" and that has since become basically canon.
I don't have much for the Q steam engines although they're definitely on the list. I'm very interested in the BNs 1, 2, and 3 because I think their story is going to be interesting but I also haven't put much time in on their history yet. Since the museum's roster is so extensive (especially compared to the MSI), we've just been letting the stories inspire us as we learn about them organically. DJ's been adding new entries to the timeline from the IRM's photohistory book, and that alone has sewn some ideas we're definitely going to revisit later, if not in the letters than possibly in some other stories or just for our own amusement.
These questions are *so* good by the way, I'm absolutely loving being able to answer these! Thanks so much!

Thoughts at 7pm...
I tag my books in Calibre with people and places and things I think will come up again and again across books.
This can be a slow and agonizing process, but I find that I keep coming back to it over and over again, because I’ll read a book years later that mentions a battle on Hill 488 and think... fuck, what book was it that I read about that from someone else’s perspective?!!?!?
Tags help with that.
I don’t tag everything, or everyone... just stuff I have a feeling will come up over and over, and yet for a single book I’ll end up with this:
Averell Harriman, Bess Clements Abell, Camp David, Catoctin Mountains MD, CH-34 Choctaw, CH-46 Sea Knight, Chaplain, CIA, CIDG, From LAPL, General Herman Nickerson, General Samuel B. Description:
The leader of one of the most successful U. S. Marine long range reconnaissance teams during the Vietnam War, Andrew Finlayson recounts his team's experiences in the year leading up to the Tet Offensive of 1968. Using primary sources, such as Marine Corps unit histories and his own weekly letters home, he presents a highly personal account of the dangerous missions conducted by this team of young Marines as they searched for North Vietnamese Army and Viet Cong units in such dangerous locales as Elephant Valley, the Enchanted Forest, Charlie Ridge, Happy Valley and the Que Son Mountains.   In numerous close contacts with the enemy, the team (code-name Killer Kane) fights for its survival against desperate odds, narrowly escaping death time and again. The book gives vivid descriptions of the life of recon Marines when they are not on patrol, the beauty of the landscape they traverse, and several of the author's Vietnamese friends. It also explains in detail the preparations for, and the conduct of, a successful long range reconnaissance patrol.
Review:
Finlayson has a very particular point of view on the war, and warfare. Throughout the book, he is constantly made aware that his actions and behaviors are both dangerous and obsessive. Yet, even though he acknowledges it, and says he takes it to heart, he still has the narcissistic bent to ignore them and feel that his way is the right way.
That’s both a positive and a negative.
His teams brought the war to the enemy and were immensely productive as far as kills and intelligence gathered. At the same time, they were in many ways reckless and dangerous.
God loves a fool and who dares wins are basically how he operates.
Overall though, the book gives you great insight into HIS way of running recon teams, and how Team Killer Kane/Swift Scout operated, the gear they took, the places they operated in, and who the people were. His writing style is quick paced and gives you a good sense of his thoughts and emotions and allows you to understand where his head was at and what he experienced.
While there were a few errors, especially in regards to keeping track of a persons rank (one page they’re corporal, next they’re a sergeant), and the weapons (carrying my m-14, and had 5 magazines of 5.56mm), the book is well done.

Online Powersports Market to surpass USD 12 Bn by 2032
Online Powersports Market is projected to cross USD $12 Bn by 2032. Online Powersports Market is poised to grow notably during 2023-2032, owing to the rising trend of using e-commerce platforms such as websites and social media for catering to a wider customer base. Retailers and distributors are constantly focusing on digital marketing strategies to promote their products online and increase their market share.
In addition, thriving tourism and surging consumer interest towards recreational activities will increase the demand for pre-booking the power sports vehicle through online portals, thereby supporting the industry development.
Request for Sample Copy report @   https://www.gminsights.com/request-sample/detail/4754
To cite an instance, RumbleOn, Inc., acquired Freedom Powersports. Freedom Powersports represents 15 leading manufacturers through 13 retail locations operated in Georgia, Texas, and Alabama and its addition increases the national presence of RumbleOn to over 55 locations. With this new addition, the company will be able to expand and strengthen its omnichannel offering, driving efficiencies in the marketplace and improving the customer experience.
Overall, the online powersports industry is segmented in terms of vehicle and region.
Based on vehicles, the all-terrain vehicles segment accounted for 15% market share in 2022. The demand for the all-terrain vehicle segment is slated to grow owing to the increasing promotion of ATV racing events by clubs and associations on social media platforms. In addition, the mounting use of social media and online channels by millennials and Gen Z population will also positively influence the industry expansion. Several vendors are also promoting the technical specs of ATVs on social media to gain momentum and be in trend, thereby assisting the segment in future growth.

From the regional perspective, the Asia Pacific online power sports market will experience appreciable gains during 2023-2032. Increasing tourism and expanding demand for fun and sports activity will drive the online power sports industry in the region. Besides, increasing initiatives taken by governments along with growing investments to enhance the fun and sports activities for attracting tourists in the region will prompt online booking or renting power sports beforehand to avoid out-of-stock conditions, which is anticipated to drive regional growth.

(Spoilers for the BN show below)
Okay damn I wanted to put this in my second part of my BN show review but since I've been stalling that for forever I'm just gonna say it in this post:
I really dislike how the show portrays Nate, Francis and Dee Dee.
Anyone who watches the show can agree its not a good adaptation of the comic/novel series. The tone of the show is different and almost everyone was changed from their original source, but these three are the ones that bugged me the most.
With Nate, I feel like they completely watered down his personality from the source material. Show!Nate feels more child-like and incompetent, and he feels very much like a generic MC who's actions depend on what the episode wants him to do, and not the other way around. They got rid of his street smarts, him being active in a lot of things (sports, scouting, various clubs in the school, etc.). Of course, since we only got 8 episodes so far, it is likely we might see some of this later on, but unfortunately I feel like they really did get rid of these aspects of his personality. Like in the wilderness episode, we see Nate not being able to build a tent, even though his comic and novel self is a scout and would know the basics of camping. The show focuses way too much on him being a 'prankster' when he's so much more than that. And he cares more about cartooning than causing troubles anyway. I'm crossing my fingers that we would AT LEAST see him being good at chess. Show Nate is written in a way that makes me feel the writers WANT him to be watered down so theres more room for 'shenanigans'.
Next is Francis. Francis, in the books and comics, is an interesting subversion of the 'nerd' stereotype. Yes, he's a geek who loves facts and reading and straight As in everything, but he's also active in sports, is not physically weak and despite being more of an introvert and mature compared to Nate and Teddy, is not some meek, shy nerd that we usually see in these types of characters.
The show took one look at him and go: Ah yes, nerd and nothing else. Adding in more stuff to really ramp up the 'weak nerd' stereotype and just,, getting rid of everything that makes him interesting. Another thing that bugs me is that Francis is Nate's best friend, and is one of the first few characters we see in the comics. But the show never really specified that or gave him much spotlight at all. Hell, despite hammering down that he's a nerd we don't even see Francis using his knowledge or book smart to get the gang out of trouble. And other than the way he's written, it's mainly because the show depends on another character to be the problem solver. Which leads us to my next biggest complaint...
Show Dee Dee. Hoo boy where do I begin. Listen, I don't like using this word much because its meaning has been carelessly tossed around in the wrong context, but Show Dee Dee is a complete Mary Sue.
Right away, you can tell that the show is very biased when it comes to her, giving her way more spotlight compared to Francis and Teddy (Nate's best friends, and the OG trio in which the series is SUPPOSED to focus on). So far in these 8 episodes we got TWO episodes with her having her own B-plot, while Francis only got one (and that episode focused on Nate anyway) and Teddy none at all. And even when the episodes don't focus on her, she STILL gets more screentime than Francis and Teddy.
The main reason is this- the show, for whatever reason, makes her competent in almost everything. In almost every episode we see her pull out a handy dandy skill that can help the gang in whatever trouble they're in because she played a role before this, and 'done her research' so now she's an expert on spying, rigging traps, and dismantling alarm systems. Because that's totally how acting works. You play as a spy and immediately know everything about spying.
So yeah, they changed Dee Dee from a drama loving girl who's good at discussing emotions and helping her friends, to a hyper-competent girl who can do almost anything and is always the one to fix the trouble they're in, rendering Francis and Teddy pretty much useless. Honestly, this shouldn't be a surprise since they literally wrote her as someone who can do what the trio can't do in her character description before the show aired, but I hoped they won't go down this route. No such luck.
And when they DO try to write her with a bit more depth, it still falls flat. Again, I'm gonna talk about the wilderness episode. In this one, we see Dee Dee struggling with anxiety of having to go camping, so she copes with it by acting and playing different personas all throughout the trip. Doesn't sound so bad, but holy shit, did they drop the ball hard. Right at the climax of the episode, Nate got cornered by a bear and is hiding in a hole (after a series of incompetent shenanigans because he's just that stupid and has no common sense IG). And guess who stepped in to help? Dee Dee of course (Francis and Teddy who?). And she did it in the most eye-rolling way that gave me second-hand embarassment. She scared the bear away by... unleashing a super-sonic scream so loud it caused birds to explode. That's it. That's the conclusion. We see Dee Dee struggling with anxiety all throughout the episode (and none of the girls bothered to help, which is smth I'm gonna rant about in another time) and it gets solved because... she literally has superpowers and doesn't need to be anyone else because she's just that awesome. Go Dee Dee.
And the supersonic scream is the second time this has happened. Seriously. She did it for the first time in the pimple episode, and her screaming so loud that every students around her fell down somehow impressed the substitute drama teacher, instead of just relying on her acting skills. Okay. It's not enough that the show had to make her Artur 2.0 they had to give her superpowers because she's just that special. I'm going to scream louder than she can if they bring up this BS AGAIN.
*deep breath* So. Yes. These three are the biggest glaring spots for me when it comes to the show. Ofc, other characters have their own issues as well (which I'm gonna make a proper review of one day I swear) but yeah, I'm really bugged by how the show changed Nate, Francis and Dee Dee. Here's to hoping that they will be written better and that Francis and Teddy will get more spotlight.

THE STORM - Part thirteen
Fandom: The Boys (Amazon prime tv series)
Pairing: Black Noir x OC
Disclaimer: I don’t own The Boys, only my OC characters and certain pieces of au plot.
A/N: So here’s a short chap with Sarah and Martha hanging out. I want this series to slowly build up to what I have planned, since it’s highly unrealistic for either of them (BN and OC) to immediately and blindly trust each other. BN might be taken by her, but he’s not stupid. Next chapter will have more BN!!
 Black coffee and light reading
It had been a couple of days since he’d last seen her, and Noir was growing restless. He’d left for an energy drink commercial he was supposed to star in and was very close to beheading the film director who had him endlessly repeating his scenes. He was disgusted by their superficial ways, this façade they all hid behind. He was no movie star or celebrity. He was a killer.
Kevin, the scrawny man directing the scenes called out, “And cut.”
Noir immediately stepped back into his usual strict posture as the smaller man moved towards him.
“I really liked this one,” he praised excitedly, “but why don’t we try this again? We want it to be intense,” he emphasized, “—keep viewers on the edge of their seats.”
The large, masked man stared down at him for a few seconds, enjoying the way Kevin grew visibly uncomfortable. As the director began trying to convince him, Noir simply moved past him and walked off. You don’t want to see intense, he thought.
Making his way through rows of props and sets, he reached his trailer and decided he didn’t feel like holing up in the cramped space for the rest of the day. Instead, he kept walking until he’d left the film set behind.
Soon, he reached a wooded area and delved inside, exploring the small dusty path curling through the tall trees. He imagined that Sarah was there with him, her small hand curled in his. Who was she? Was her name Sarah, or rather Marianna? Was she spying on Vought? He thought back to the night he followed her to the club, and he’d seen her burn the shape of her fingers into the man’s wrist. Noir was left stunned, and slightly impressed, but he couldn’t shake the doubt clouding his mind. He was meant to keep Vought’s enemies at bay, by picking them off one by one if they got too close. Was she the next threat they’d point out?
His mind drifted back to their evening in her backyard, soaking in the moonlight that filtered through the passing clouds. When he’d first seen her at the gala, he’d found her spectacular. She moved with grace and purpose, and her bright smile had immediately caught his attention. But now he’d gotten a glance behind the curtain and realized there was so much more. She was enigmatic, magnetic. He saw the heaviness of her shoulders, the maturity in her dark eyes. She was an observer, taking in her surroundings in a meticulous and rather calculating manner—just like him. There was a fatigue that lingered in her eyes, and her constantly being cold concerned him. But he could see the fire behind it all. She was hiding away under a façade of innocence and presented herself as small, vulnerable. He had a feeling she was anything but.
She intrigued him, and it was the first time he found himself so involved in another individual’s life and well-being. That night under the stars, he’d seen her on edge, lost at sea.
He hoped she was doing well.
..
It had been a few days since Sarah had seen Noir, and she wondered if something had happened. She wished she didn’t mind but was surprised when she found herself missing his presence. He was quiet, and yet reassuring. If only they could communicate more directly.
That morning, Sarah and Martha had taken a day off for the quirky blonde’s birthday. They’d decided to go to a local bookstore and coffee shop for a warm drink and pastry before heading off to visit her parents. The two women visited the petite shop every chance they got, always pleased with the homey and warm atmosphere oozing from the book-covered walls.
Once they’d settled down at a small table near the large windows, they ordered and chatted about anything and everything under the sun.
“How did your date with Dave go?” Sarah asked while taking small sips off her coffee.
Martha shook her head, “I was trying to avoid it.”
“Oh, come on, it couldn’t have been that bad—"
“—Worse”
Sarah caught the mischief in Martha’s eyes and knew she was messing with her.
“So, what happened?”
“Well, you see what happened was—” Martha began recounting the tale, “we were sat at dinner, and he moved in really close. His hand came over to mine, and he was flirting while talking about movies…”
Sarah watched her, entirely unconvinced.
“…and then you see, he said the wrong thing,” she took a deep breath, “he said he hates transformers.”
Sarah rolled her eyes, “Oh for the love of God.”
Martha immediately dove into an explanation, “No, we love that movie, you and I. We used to watch it religiously every weekend—” she grew louder, while Sarah tried to quiet her down, “—and I will not take this kind of disrespect from some pretty boy.”
Sarah could do nothing but laugh at this point, her friend joining her.
After they’d grown serious, Martha attempted to draw information on the mysterious man who’d sent her, and was probably still sending her, all those gifts.
“What about your mystery man?” she began, “Are you still seeing him?”
Sarah waved it off, “Not really, it’s been a few days—”
“—a few days” Martha exclaimed.
Sarah drew herself into a professional posture.
“Oh, don’t go all Mallory on me now, just give me some details,” she asked, “please?”
Sarah thought on it, and ultimately decided that feeding her friend some details would do no harm, as long as she kept the man’s identity out of the picture.
“Well, we watched Die Hard together—”
“—like Netflix and chill?”
“No,” Sarah grew flustered, “just let me finish, you can run through your list of questions when I’m done.”
Martha smiled and nodded, deciding to not torture her until the end of the story.
“He’s a fan of Die Hard so we decided to do a movie night…” she trailed off. “And it was nice. Unexpected, but nice,” she continued, her mind straying to his uncovered hands, him pulling her into his chest for a chaste kiss on her head.
“Hey, you there,” Martha asked with a knowing look.
“And a couple nights ago he showed up and we watched the moon from the backyard,” she recounted, avoiding as much detail as possible.
Martha looked at her unimpressed, “Is that seriously the best you can do? Come on, tell me about him,” she pressed, “I want to know how you feel about him.”
“I honestly don’t know yet,” she sighed. “And he’s just…” she searched for the right word, “Unexpected.”
Martha rolled her eyes, “Okay unexpected—got it. Describe him.”
“He’s very tall, and strong. A bit dark and brooding," she almost snorted at the understatement. "And he’s quiet you know—doesn’t speak much. But he’s a reassuring presence, good-mannered and,” she faltered thinking back to him pulling her chair out for her, or insisting he wash their cups. “Kind, I guess.”
“So, he’s not stalkerish?”
Definitely. “No, not at all. Nothing worth worrying about,” Sarah reassured her.
Martha watched her carefully, “Okay. I guess that’s enough to keep me satisfied for a couple days, but I want the deets, girl.”
Sarah laughed, relieved they were closing the subject, “Of course.”
She looked down at the black coffee in her cup, her thoughts wondering off to their quiet encounter under an equally pitch-black sky.
Martha snapped her fingers, “I want to stop by Sephora before we leave, so drink up,” she winked, “I’ll get the check.”
And with that the blonde smoothly stood from her chair and headed towards the cute guy at the counter.
Sarah couldn’t help but smile at her friend’s antics. She quickly downed her coffee ready to leave the table, when the spine of a book beside her caught her attention. “Sign language for beginners.”
Conflicted, she stared at it. He might not even come back. Maybe he thought she was weird after that night in her awful backyard. Still, she let her hand move forward and pull it from the neat rows of thick volumes. It looked worn, as if it had been used extensively. She found it oddly comforting.
Finally reaching the front counter, she cut into Martha and the man’s flirtatious conversation holding up the book in her hand. She payed, and the two women finally left.
Once outside, Martha eyed her friend questioningly.
“What?”
“Why are you learning sign language," she asked. “I mean, there’s nothing wrong with it, I was just wondering—is there any particular reason?”
Sarah kept her expression light and unreadable, “Just interested.”
I’m so stupid, Sarah thought to herself as she found herself hoping he’d return. So stupid.
Martha accepted her friend’s answer, and they hurried off ready for the rest of their day.

Is the NYT List actually rigged? That's what everyone keeps saying because a lot of books that are hardly ever talked about seem to remain there.
I mean, kinda? Though "rigged" is uh... not quite the phraseology that I would use.
Rather, I'd say that the NYT list is based on its own metrics. And the metrics that the NYT uses to calculate its lists are mostly unknown to the general public.
Here's what we do know, or think we know, anyway:
* It isn't a straight-up list of which books sells the most copies. If it was, then GOODNIGHT MOON and other classics like that would FOR SURE be in the top ten of children's every week.
* They "sunset out" books after a certain length of time. Again, as above -- classic books often sell a ton more copies on the regular than any new book, so in order to keep the list from looking like a Goodnight Moon/Where the Wild Things Are/Dr Seuss fest every week, they don't list those classics. What is the criteria for being sunsetted-out? No clue.
* Their categories are different from other lists. So, for example, they don't count Graphic Novels in their respective age categories (YA, MG, etc) - whereas the Indie Bestseller Lists do count GN. They also break out series books into their own list after there are 3 books or more, otherwise the whole list would end up being books from popular series.
* It is based on data taken from many sources, including "NYT reporting stores", BN, Amazon, etc -- but we don't know ALL the sources, we don't know what places are NOT counted (like, Target? Sam's Club? No idea), and also, we don't know how those sources are "weighted." The assumption/myth (??) is that indie bookstores who report to the NYT are weighted more heavily than AMZ for example, but I have no idea if that is true.
* There seem to be some books that the NYT are "tracking" -- by that I mean, books by popular authors, books that have listed before, "big" and "buzzy" titles -- I THINK that Publishers do give some kind of heads up to the NYT when they think they have a book that MIGHT list, but I'm not sure what form that takes, who gives the heads up to whom, etc.
* Sometimes, a book that clearly DID sell more copies as per BookScan misses the NYT list. Which is annoying at best, heartbreaking at worst - but I don't think it's because the list is RIGGED, I think it's because wherever they are pulling the data from just resulted in different numbers than the BookScan numbers. :-/
* Sometimes, a book can be buzzy, but does not or CANNOT list, because other books in that category are just too big. Like for example: The NYT lists DogMan: Mothering Heights as the #1 Graphic Novel. According to BookScan, the new DogMan book sold 25,000 copies last week. Well -- most books ENTIRE FIRST PRINT RUN isn't 25,000 copies. So like ... can most random graphic novels outsell the new DogMan? Not a chance in hell this week -- there literally, physically, aren't enough copies of that random book in existence. So, if it is in a category where there are a bunch of super-high-selling books like that... welp.
Anyway, here's the deal: Yes, there's a lot of hype around NYT Bestsellers, making the list, staying on the list, whatever. Yes, we should all not actually be paying that close of attention to what is or isn't on the list - and inclusion on the list doesn't make anyone "Better than", and non-inclusion on the list in no way makes anyone "less than."
If you want to TRULY know which books sold the most copies - you can potentially glom on to somebody's (VERY expensive) BookScan subscription. Or, the USA Today list is way more straightforward. But it also includes lots of random things that the NYT list doesn't, like classics, weird board book spinoffs of other books, series titles, etc -- and clumps everything together so there is no differentiation between categories -- so, in fact, it's MUCH more difficult to make the USA Today list, even though it has 150 slots. It's not better or worse - it's just a different way of tallying things.

This big-city girl is ready for Serendipity.
But is Serendipity ready for her?
No sane woman breaks off an engagement to an extremely handsome, rich man, right? But Nicole Farnsworth is tired of being the good daughter, and she’s sick of being her fiancé’s arm-candy. So she flees to Serendipity. She can’t think of a better place to find some peace and figure out what comes next.
“Next” shouldn’t include falling for the man who once slapped handcuffs on her wrists—and unwittingly changed her life. But in this small town, fate and fortune make the decisions.
Sam Marsden trusts his instincts as a cop, but when it comes to love? Not so much. Back when he’d mistakenly arrested Nicole, she’d made his jaded heart beat faster and he thought she’d reciprocated. But she returned to her high-society life in NYC and slipped through his fingers. Since then, he’s tried and failed to stop dreaming about the beautiful woman.
Now Nicole is back and it isn’t long before they give in to the attraction that never stopped burning. But when the reason Nicole ran away from home catches up with her, it’ll take every ounce of Sam’s protective instincts to keep her safe.
