The first post in my Masterlist is precisely for people like you. People referring to Despacito and thinking it’s perfectly logical to apply a scenario from one artist, in another label, years ago, in another set of awards (VMAs vs. EMAs) to BTS in 2023 with nothing else to go on that could show the same happened with Jimin. These are the kinds of logical leaps that convinced akgaes HYBE was working with Billboard to delete Jimin’s D2C sales, convinced them that Jimin definitely wasn’t renewing his contract, and practically every other theory I’ve seen from that faction of the fandom since January 2023. Do yourself a favour and read it.
I don’t know if BigHit submitted Jimin’s work for nominations, but I do know the absence of nominations doesn’t mean his work wasn’t submitted. BigHit submitted BTS’s work for 2017 MTV EMAs and they were snubbed for nominations. Groups like Mamamoo and Gfriend were nominated instead, and no group had a bigger performance in 2017 than BTS. The same can be said for when BigHit submitted BTS’s work in 2018 and 2019 and both times were snubbed for the Grammys and some academy voters flat out said they didn’t think BTS got those accolades and chart performances legitimately. We know that Billboard published a hit piece that practically said Jimin’s chart performance was bought with Chinese money, and that NewJeans’ gamed their album to rack up streams. All the artists nominated this year are artists who had their songs sent to radio, and Jimin as we all know, for whatever reason, didn’t.
Regardless of what HYBE does or doesn’t do, regardless of what Jimin wants or doesn’t want, these awards are managed by third parties who have full discretion to toss submissions aside for whatever they think is more legitimate. I want Jimin’s work to be recognized and celebrated, but I also don’t actually have all the information, nor am I stupid or blind as to what is not so distant history for how the EMAs have treated BTS in the past. Stop spamming my inbox with your insecurities and anxieties and block me for your mental health.

I just saw a hit tweet on army tw saying jk WILL win a grammy, it was like a statement not even a wish and idk if I should laugh or cry at them being so sure of how this guy's career is going to develop.
Like... bts has been nominated at the grammys for three consecutive years and everytime they were nominated armys reaction was like "lets celebrate now since we already know they not gonna win". they used to pretend just being happy with a nom cause they knew that no matter how big the group was they would never overcome that xenophobic jury.
Now they're acting like out of nowhere that guy's music, that doesnt match the quality of the worst bts song, will suddenly win. somebody on the comments say it'll be possible thanks to his new connections and they got mad but you ask them to give a serious argument and suddenly they forget how to write.
It is so annoying seeing how the entire fandom knows what is going on behind the scene but whoever dares to say it out loud gets crucified
I actually answered this but my Pc decided to update.
the fandom is well aware of what's going on they know it they just don't want to admit it the minute you talk about it you're a solo. They labelled me one until I initially became one because I can't deal with two faced people. They know what's going on they just have pride, they see nothing wrong with it because they enjoy the results so they can brag in fandom wars. till this date armies still see no difference between LC's promotions and seven's even if they kinda admit they always have a but.
As for JK getting that grammy, BTS for me would literally be over. He'd be basically shitting on the groups name if he won that award and went on stage and made a speech alike he deserved it. I don't even think the boys themselves would be happy or entirely happy about it. because imagine him getting a grammy because he's got western connections where as BTS were snubbed and embarrassed by the show again and again knowing very well they deserved it more than anyone but they didn't get the award because of their ethnicity. To me that would be the day BTS would be finally over because there would be no going back from that.

hi mel hope you're doing well!! i managed to convince a friend to drive us nearly 40 min to a movie theater to see the zone of interest and you were not kidding when you said this truly is one to experience in a theater. (and also rereading your post about the tech mishap during your viewing is even more comical because i knew what was going to happen with the black screen for the first 5 min but my friend was so visibly distraught he was like 'who's gonna speak up about the screen not working?'😭)
but on a more serious note, what a haunting film, especially the ending soundtrack. the sound design was spectacular and really set the tone. (when i found out the sound designer was johnnie burn it all made sense. i'm still upset he didn't get more recognition for his sound design in nope.) i wanted to share this bts video i saw because i think the film (and just the process of making it) does a really good job at showing while critiquing the ethical dilemmas with making movies about historical traumas and conveying these atrocities without fetishizing them. i'm going to be thinking about this movie for so long, it really is quite timely and will take some time to process fully

thank you for sharing the bts video! hearing jonathan glazer talk about trying to get the audience to project themselves onto the characters was so interesting bc there's that scene where hoss goes around the house and turns out the lights and locks the door before going to bed and I couldn't stop thinking about how my dad always does the same bc he's always been the last one to go to bed. and the entire ending just felt almost revolutionary, like I couldn't believe what he was showing and how he was connecting the desensitization towards an atrocity in the past with the desensitization towards that same atrocity in the present. I'm just so impressed with the entire film bc it manages to say something new about a topic that's seen so so so many depictions in film and is so incredibly timely.
gah! no one I know has seen it yet so this is the first time I've been able to just vomit all my thoughts out to someone about it so thank you 😘

“There's no 'objectively bad song' in the realm of music. Taste in music will always be subjective."
Hard disagree. Of course there’s objectivity in what’s qualitative and what it’s not, this everything-is-subjective-everything-worths-the-same ongoing debate makes no sense to me. A piece of a Mozart’symphony is objectively better than Baby by Justin Bieber, Miles Davis’s masterpieces are objectively better than most random summer hits we hear these days and I could go on forever.
Now taste is another discussion here. You can like whatever you like, it doesn’t have much to do with quality unless you’re a purist. I personally really like Seven and have listened to it a lot because it makes me in a good mood but in terms of quality, it just doesn’t compare to other releases from BTS and Jungkook himself. BTS discography isn’t equal quality either, some pieces are just meh or bad and don’t work and won’t be reminded, while others are objectively good in terms of lyrics, flow, depths, beats, etc etc.
There’s objectivity in quality, there’s objectivity in beauty. Attractiveness/taste though, vary from person to person.
I think this is a really interesting point of view. I'll still would disagree, but you have raised a fair argument.
To me what we confer to be objectively good 'quality' in 'music' and 'beauty' is informed by our tastes to a certain degree.
Even when we look at institutions like the Grammys, they were at least till a certain point in time, considered the highest conferers of quality in music, because they awarded people on the basis of this so called 'objectivity in music ' and not just popularity. That is until more people understood that this entire perception was skewed, because the idea that a commitee of people, considered to be educated in the "intricate notes and qualities" that made music 'grammy worthy' , were inherently biased due to their own experiences and exposures ( considering how a majority of them were white upper class men) and how they could in no way gauge the pulse of the changing trends in music in any way that can be considered 'objective'.
It's why poc artists as big as Beyonce still get snubbed in the major nomination categories because the people behind the scenes have their own prejudices that affect their perception of 'quality' in music.
Though of course you were not talking about the grammys, I feel like they're a good starting point to dissect why conversations around how to be 'objective' in gauging any piece of art are almost bound to fall apart.
It's not to say, that all songs ever produced are always good or something because some person out there likes it, because of course there are songs that most people would just consider noise music more than anything else.
However, I think the discourse that is so hellbent on painting Seven of not good 'quality' is skewed by people's own preference. Just because a song has a simpler structure and composition, doesn't mean that it was lazily put together to manufacture a pop song. This is still not an easy feat to reproduce. Often times you can have all the right components to create a hit and the song would still not take off. The fact that Seven has does say that it has something going for it that even locals are streaming it.
Even what you said about there being objectivity in 'beauty' is something I would disagree with, because whether we realize it or not , what we consider objectively beautiful is often defined by the standards of what is considered 'beautiful' in our society, and often that standard comes with a pretty nasty history lesson attached. Colourism as it exists in most parts of the world, is guided by euro centric beauty standards where people with lighter skin would be considered 'objectively prettier' by default.
But coming back to music, the reason why 'objectively low quality' as a concept is something that irks me is because like the examples you gave of great musicians like Mozart or Miles Davis, they not only have the advantage of time to establish their craft and music as 'legendary' and 'the standard', but they both fall into the genre of music that most people today would already consider as high brow, even if it may not always have the case. (This is not to say that both musicians haven't created absolutely incredible and beautiful compositions of music, just that the comparison itself is lacking nuance)
Pop music, literally means popular music. People were convinced at one point in time that Brittney spears made bad pop music purely because the songs were considered low brow and 'lacking real substance'. Today, most people would agree that she's made some decade defining bops.
What was once considered low quality pop is now a classic of the 90s, because most discussions around 'low quality' in music are defined by people's tastes and biases.
I think especially with people who enjoy pop music, they often feel this need to apologize for it, and go "I swear I'm not stereotypical" or "I also listen to *insert niche artist*, so I'm not basic". Even as a kpop fan, I've seen people feel embarrassed because people tend to look down on kpop as something of lesser quality , against the standard that western music has set and often call it 'cookie cutter' music, which I'm sure you too would disagree with.
So my answer to all of this in the most convulated reply possible is, that our perception of what we consider objectively 'high' quality is inherently flawed. People who Diss on seven for being 'an objectively low quality' song , need to find a better way to express that it's just simply not their cup of tea.
Maybe accept that they let their own distaste against pop music and jungkook's achievements, as well as their intense bias for one member affect their perception of the song and stop using the 'it's simply low quality and unworthy of it's achievements' as a deflection.

But as much as I love BTS. I’m begging army to stop mass voting just to be petty.

as for the bts group nominations, i think it's just because they're too big not to be nominated. award shows know they have the biggest fanbase who are likely to show up and vote, and even if they're not there to physically accept the award, the production needs the engagement 😭 i saw that the viewership was down and knetz were talking about how it's bc bts didn't show up LOL. although i do agree with what you're saying i do think there will be a big difference and that "we're back!" moment when they're actually present during the award shows

Maybe you've already said what you think but I haven't scrolled back a lot on your blog so forgive me if it's something you already talked about. You think the company submitted LC, or that no submission was needed, for VMA and EMA rigth? Then how come a song with its achievements in Europe wasn't considered but songs and artists with virtually no achievements in Europe did? It is not explainable, I'm sorry. And of course Hybe was going to submit everyone for Grammy, because the submission are public knowledge and it would have actually caused an uproar if they submitted only some. It's not about siding with solos or their "agenda" but once again it is weird and suspicious, just like the unreported sales, the sudden splitting of LC versions when even 3D with and without Jack are combined, so two different songs.
So yeah, I find it weird, and I don't want to think this way but the reasons armys give to this mishaps are always putting blame on jm himself, like he doesn't want his work to be recognised or something.. I hope you can make me look at this in another light, if you want..

Anyway I highly doubt you'll read all linked posts so I'll paste a section I've written earlier for you here too in response to parts of your ask.

The same can be said for when BigHit submitted BTS’s work in 2018 and 2019 and both times were snubbed for the Grammys and some academy voters flat out said they didn’t think BTS got those accolades and chart performances legitimately."
The bolded part is done for emphasis. It might not be explainable Anon, but it's not without precedent. The point is the lack of nominations does not mean a lack of submissions, and BTS have been snubbed before by that particular award-giver (EMAs). There's a whole host of possible explanations for why these things happen because newsflash, as much as akgaes like to think the company (in this case HYBE) is the boogeyman responsible for everything bad that happens to their fave, there's a pretty big world outside that is filled with players other than HYBE. These award shows are third-party industry players that still operate independently of HYBE. Or do you think if HYBE had that kind of power they wouldn't fill the nomination rosters with only their artists, or do you think HYBE would've allowed BTS and their other artists to suffer snubs repeatedly for years?
I understand people are looking for someone or something to blame when their expectations aren't met and corporations are easy scapegoats because we all know they're bad, but it really shouldn't be so difficult to actually think about what it is one is saying.
I get it's easier to blame HYBE for Spotify splitting streams, but just as it didn't work in 2020 when ARMYs wanted combined streams for ON and ON ft Sia, were told the codes were different but later learned the codes are actually generated by Spotify after the label provides the songs, and ARMYs saw other songs combined instead with no explanation from Spotify... ARMYs learned back then that raging at HYBE likely isn't going to fix an issue controlled by an opaque third-party. Just as it didn't work all the times Billboard changed the rules for BTS.
I don't default to putting all the blame on the company whenever I see things I don't like because the members are adult men who should be held responsible for their choices. I don't idolize, infantilize, or baby them. If their choice involves delegating certain decisions to their team and their team drops the ball, I blame their team and also the members. It's what I said when I mentioned how I hated the Weverse album version for JITB and assumed Hobi was at least aware of and okay with that decision, and so I held him responsible as well. And Hobi is my bias. K-pop stans and akgaes in particular, have a habit of crediting the idol when they see good outcomes, but blaming the company when they see bad outcomes, when the reality is that both idol and company share responsibility. Especially in the case of BTS where we know all members are very involved in their solo careers.
The problem for solo stans is they don't know how to hold parties responsible without being abusive, hateful, devolving into conspiracies and raging all over the internet looking for a way to harm and handicap other members in retaliation, regardless of these people not actually knowing if other members are responsible for the outcome. It's just very juvenile and frankly insane behaviour.
I cannot want more for the boys than they want for themselves. Of course Jimin wants success. Same with the other members. I think it's fair to assume of course he wants awards and recognition and accolades, but I'm not privy to the conversations he's having with his team at HYBE, and I don't actually know what awards he cares about or what submissions they've discussed and made.
But people here, akgaes and their sympathizers, would rather incite hatred over Jungkook because they have no way of managing their emotions when their chosen member isn't getting his due. They have no way of expressing their disappointment without being hateful and disgusting.
Jungkook deserves everything good he gets. Jimin does too and then some. And I want that for all seven of them, but I won't begin hating one member with only a fraction of the information available to me because not actually knowing the full facts is oh so uncomfortable.

Yes, she would have been in lead. I have mixed thoughts on Selena. I like OMITB a lot and I do think she's pretty good on it in the sense that even going back to Disney I always thought she had really good comedic timing and can deliver a sardonic line. I'm not sure how I feel about her an actress when anything goes deeper than that? Considering all the love for the show I'm 50/50 on being surprised on her not getting a nom. I just think there were better contenders and everyone else is deserving and let's be clear that nobody is winning against Jean Smart anyway.

To YOU Taekook do not look like a pair no matter how demonstrative Tae has been. You are basing your conclusion completely on your own perspective which is heavily biased in favor of Jikook.Ultimately you have to admit that even with all the perspective that we can muster,Taekook may very well be a couple and it may turn out that Taekookers got a lot of things right. If Taekook is indeed real then it would mean HYBE and BTS members,specially Jimin has knowingly participated in a lot of lies. I don't think any of Taekook or Jikook is real.But I know in kpop world business cannot be conducted without lies.Why would HYBE or bighit,or even BTS be always truthful if it hurts their business?All BTS members have to lie in order to keep their position at the top.The fans inability to accept it is causing them unnecessary heartache.They do not want to ruin the perfect fantasy of seven innocent men who never lie for business or to keep their fame and wealth from diminishing.Fans would rather be delusional than confront the reality.
In my view everything the members did was all to reach the top of the class hierarchy. It was not for ARMYS.ARMY is the company's cash source,and BTS get paid by the company.They want to get better at their craft,they do not want to be our therapist.If we talk about jikook or Taekook,nothing makes sense to any jikookers or Taekookers because you are ignoring the very real possibility that the members play acted a lot to keep the image of 7 close-knitted-brothers alive when in reality they were more of colleagues than forever friends.All these confusions about Tae doing things when Jikook is real couple,and Jimin doing things if Taekook is real couple are pointless and allude to one thing only.There are three possibilities.
None is in relationship with the other, BTS have lied.
Jikook is real,Taehyung has lied about all the romantic things he said about JK.
Taekook is real,Jimin has lied about all the romantic things he said about JK.
My common sense tells me it is the first one.Special mention to Taehyung,I think Tae is a genius in marketing. I have sent another similar ask to another blog.But it is not only Taehyung,all members lie.If anything Tae is the most transparent member with his "lies" because he does not even try to make it seem real or try to give ARMYS a sense of realism.He always has a face of 'yes I am sprouting bullshit, so what you know it I know it and if you do not know it then you SHOULD know it because you are at that age'. I think all of them share cordial relationships and they look out for each other.Just not the way Jikookers or Taekookers think it to be as if it is a 'the world stops and you are the only one I see'-esque fanfic situation.
Why would being "truthful" hurt their business? Do you really believe them every time they say they love ARMYS?Do you believe they would sacrifice anything substantial if it meant ARMYS will be happy?They did not even thank ARMY for the BILLBOARD awards this year because they were unhappy about not winning the GRAMMY.They thought they were snubbed which I agree with wholeheartedly, ,and did not want to do anything to promote Billboard,even though ARMYS worked hard for those awards.Do you think if they say 'I am gay' ARMYS will accept them?Or if they show their bonding is like those of colleagues ARMYS will be interested in them?
Every k-pop group sells a fantasy.BTS is no exception. The fantasy that something as pure as a seven man selfless group who are forever best friends can exist in this greedy world.Their chemistry is their selling point along with music,which they are well aware of.
I am really looking forward to seeing Taehyungs shenanigans because he is entertaining.I think his relationship with both Jungkook and Jimin are playful and sometimes not so playful but Tae definitely keeps both of them at a distance emotionally.Whatever is happening with Jikook,whether they break up or makeup if they really are a couple,Tae looks like he does not give a sh** either way.In the end for each one of them it is about making their mark in history for a long time.
So, um, there is a lot going on here—more than I have the capacity to unpack right now—so I’ll just make a few simple points and then it’s probably best we part ways, just to avoid any exhausting back and forth.
Everything I write about here on my blog is always going to be based on my own biased perspective; I try to watch all original content and consider others’ opinions sincerely but in the end I always go with my gut about what rings true, not what feels good.
I don’t think members are innocent little angels and all BFFs all the time, but I also don’t think they are lying manipulative cynical greedy assholes either.
I do think Tae and JK have a deep genuine bond but never once did they ever come across as genuine lovers to me, not even with Tae being super touchy feely these days. I’m not out to insist others think like I do though. If folks believe in Taekook, as long as they don’t hate on any other members, we have no beef between us.
Every human being has the ability to be selfish—deliberately or unconsciously. And BTS is comprised of humans. Eventually they will let us down, make mistakes, learn and grow and change. But after ten years, I think Jikook really truly delighted in each other’s company and I hope they will do so in the future even if this year has been rough. Time will tell.
You seem to be quite upset with BTS and the industry at large, but Tae seems to bring you joy—so I wish you more joy in the future, focusing on Tae and whatever else brings you happiness. Other than that, I’m not sure I have anything productive to say…
