CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT ☆ T-REX

Kai is at your door in ten minutes.

You used your safe word, "trex" to let him know you needed him right now. All the guilt and fear sat heavily on your chest; you couldn't even cry. Pain settled in your weary body, your eyes falling on the mug you knocked onto the floor and couldn't be bothered to pick up.

First Jake.

Then Han.

Seungmin, Jeongin.

Felix.

You inhaled sharply, barely containing a dry sob. Of all people, he affected you the most. Your feelings did nothing but grow stronger by the day, and now he was gone.

You fucked up.

"Y/N?" A knock at the door, then a creak signaling Kai let himself in. "Oh, Y/N..."

Taking a few steps forward, Kai took in the sight of you. Your hair stuck to the side of your face, blanket drawn up to your chin. He kneeled beside you, taking the hand that was clutching the couch cushion for dear life in his own, his thumb rubbing your knuckles. The simple gesture broke something in you and the second you locked eyes with your best friend, the tears wouldn't stop.

"Kai I-" You choke out, gripping his hand tightly. "Why am I like this?"

Next thing you know, you're enveloped in the warmest, most loving hug, forcing you to sit up just a bit. You could hear Kai soothing you, one hand rubbing your back, the other on your head. He knew one way to calm you down was by a simple hug, reassuring you he was there.

Once you could breathe and the thunderstorm of emotion was a mere drizzle, Kai pried himself away from you, looking you in the eyes with a firm expression.

"Y/N I can't say none of this is your fault," Your heart sank. "But everything with Jake? That started all this?" He shook his head. "Yeah, maybe saying you had a boyfriend wasn't the greatest move... no buts. Jake needs to learn to deal with his feelings, and if space from you is what it takes, then so be it. Sometimes you are the problem."

"I fail to see how this is supposed to help, Kai." Sitting up now, you cross your arms at him.

"General you, use your brain." Now you can't help but smile at him, sniffing and wiping your nose with your sleeve. "The point is, you can't please everyone all the time Y/N, and you're not responsible for other people feelings and how they deal with them. The only thing you're responsible for is how you react. Sometimes people hurt you, sometimes you hurt them. Right now, you need to acknowledge the pain you've caused and apologize."

You look down.

That's something you love about Kai-- he tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear, no matter how hard. He tells you when you mess up, but he'll also be your shoulder to cry on. He was your closest friend.

"Can I use your phone?" You ask.

"Why, yours not working?" He rolls his eyes with a small smile

"It is," You playfully smack his arm. "I just don't think anyone will pick up if they see it's me."

I am so grateful for Prehistoric Planet showing big carnivores as not taking stupid risks and knowing when to back down, as well as show casing them doing "boring" stuff like taking a nap in the sun or dancing for a mate. And also as much as I love the idea of badass trex parents going on a vengeful pursuit I like the reality much more. They were protective to a degree but were not John Wick about it. I confess I love the original JP and enjoy the Lost World but goddamn dinos were not constant killing machines ready to throw down or chase people to the ends of the earth for their young. They were just animals.

I definitely agree, PP did a great job portraying predators realistically AND showcasing behaviour that isn't predation or fighting. It's honestly something that regular nature documentaries sometimes struggle with (looking at you Shark Week).

It's funny, I understand the motivation behind the portrayal of T. rex as intense parents, as the creators wanted to show dinosaurs in a more bird-like light and avoid stereotyping them labelling them as careless reptile parents (which is it's own issue), but they swung the pendulum a little too far and we ended up with Taken: The T. rex Edition. The raptors in JP3 are an even worse portrayal of animal parents, considering they turn into Liam Neeson over eggs! That they have more of at home!

the first thing i'm REALLY interested in is like. mmmmn. the. emotional space? i guess? of the campaign,,,, it's so, like, classic shonen jump teen titans type shit, right? & like these genres (cape shit especially) r so notoriously bad at inhabiting the actual emotional spaces of their characters-- u know what i'm talking ab, yr a cartoon guy, danny phantom Has to do the "horrifying shit can't have real consequences because this episode is 20 minutes, there's three more seasons of this, and nobody Actually wants to watch the kid superhero come to terms with the ramifications of violence or like, figure out how to write him differently", right?

so i guess i really enjoy that prime defenders IS working in this really classic, sillygoofy over the top classic shonen dc comics realm that i personally DO find SO much fun, but also it's being created By folks who love those narratives & also are creating it for an audience that's not,,, like,, 15, and dont have extrwmely tight deadlines and time constraints. i think what finally convinced me on the show was like, getting the downtime in between the huge shonen moments-- taking the time to, y'know, sit with the dying trex puppy, be kind of miserable on the flight back, have awful kitchen moments etc-- it's the kind of thing that i always go damn i wish this show or comic had. (to be clear comics also are good at this sometimes however big two comics at least have curse of 1 billion people have written any given cape which of course makes ummm. actual emotional development impossible)

Yeah male wildclaws suck but you know what sucks even more? Female wildclaws. They have all the classic undelisms in one singular pose.

They're weirdly stumpy looking when put right next to the males. Every time i need one for a breeding project I audibly cringe knowing I have to have one of these potato ass limp-neck motherfuckers in my lair, and try to cover it up with as much clothing as possible. I hate looking at them. They're not even the uwu kind of potato they're the forgotten-in-the-pantry-and-sprouting-growths-starting-to-smell-like-an-unflushed-toilet kind of potato. They're supposed to be terrifying forest predators but with proportions like that they wouldn't even be able to chase their own broken tails. They'd just be waddling around with their stubby legs, worthless trex armstubs flapping worthlessly trying to hold their bobble-heads up after it collapses under its own weight due to the lack of usable neck muscles. Wow, terrifying. Put her out of her misery.

Also, that line between their upper and middle horns that's supposed to be the back of their head. Where the fuck does it lead? If you follow the line it just.. doesn't go anywhere. The fuck. 2kg and only available for a few days out of the year. Fucking ridiculous. For the love of God Undel please use references once in a while if you're going to charge people the equivalent of 20USD for a single breed change scroll, holy shit. "well I like them and they're cute. lolowned. hows it feel to be wrong", smugly cried the ontologically evil and wrong:tm: DR replyguy. re: defective Jellycats. This was our (random out of nowhere) shipment of mini fossily trex. Most of them with arms sticking out much further than they used to, lots with wonky heads (really intense variation there - some with their head downturned or tilting to one side or turned slightly) uneven eyes, poor balance on most of them. Most shipments I stock and tag and put out have loose threads I have to snip !dragons in particular), big stuffing variations and hugely different faces. Also not a quality control issue but more poor design: none of the forager plushies (mushroom squirrel and bunny and flower mouse) stand up straight. If you like I'll see if I can find more comparisons just between two of the same plush on our shelves

I know this ask is from a while ago and since then things seem to have improved (at least from what I've seen), but I still appreciate you taking the time to share all of this with me! I'm hoping the quality control gets much better this year! In the meantime, customer service has already improved and instead of placating you with words of how sorry they are, they actually give you a free Jellycat or some other nice thing like a free drawstring bag and stickers!

I'm excited to see how Jellycat will do this year with their promised changes and improvements and how they will handle their ever-rising popularity.

One thing about the Fossily T-Rexes: I've seen so many people describe their clearly faulty Jellycats as "quirky" or saying things like "he's got a wonky head/ doesn't sit up, but I love him anyway". This really upsets me because Jellycat cannot brand themselves as a luxury brand and keep raising their prices if every single thing about their product isn't perfect. I know they are handmade, so individual variations occur and that's lovely and part of the appeal, but there's a difference between individuality and an actual faulty product/design!

All that said, the best thing you can still do is pick your Jellycats out in person! I know that's not possible for a lot of people though, so if your only option is the official website please do reach out to customer support if there is anything "wrong" with your Jellycat! They are trying hard to fix things right now, so speaking up is important.

Also yeah, the Forager Jellycats just don't sit up and it irks me that nobody seems to care about that. It's a simple design flaw that could be fixed by putting more support on the inside. Right now what they are carrying is just too much for the little body to support on its own. I know some people put wire through the "stem" to get it to stay upright. I don't know why this design flaw hasn't been addressed yet. Maybe if people would stop buying them or giving them 5 stars on the website despite this, a new batch would come out with improvements...

HOWDY!!! I think they'd both react negatively at first... considering that he kept that part of himself from them and also it is pretty scary if you think about it. Though, they'll accept him because he didnt choose to be like that and also its pretty clear he's terrified of himself as well as how others would react to it. Also he PURRS!!! And meows!! He's basically a big, cutie kitty who's starved for love and attention horribly! Plaga leon is also really shy so its hard to get him to really go out with what he wants... he feels undeserving. -wide array of vocalizations he can make... but those shrills he can do are genuinely gut wrenchingly scary!!!! DI got scared shitless of him when they met!!!! He can be either with or without his plaga characteristics at any time... which makes blending in really easy for him, unless you look really closely at his skin and eyes-- he looks a little pale and slightly off... lol Plaga Leon is based on dragons!!! and Dinosaurs!! If Derek dickhead simmons can be a trex then why cant leon be based on dragons!!! My plaga Leon is basically plaga + c-virus lol so its creative freedom to the max!!!
