Was having some trouble with my newest doily, dropping stitches and just generally having a hard time knitting and couldn't figure out why. And then I realized I had nearly 250 stitches jammed onto a 8 inch cable (16 inches including needle tips).

I moved it onto my 14 inch cable but realized immediately it could fit on my 22 inch cable (and did a bit of math, the final row of this doily is going to be 640 stitches and that'll need my 22 inch cable minimum). So after a bit of musical cables, he's finally laying mostly flat.

This guy is a square doily so he won't lay fully flat until I get him off the needles but he's already looking cute as hell. And bigger than I thought. The pattern says he'll be about 10 inches by 10 inches but I'm about halfway through his rows and he's already over 8 inches wide.

this is random but one of my favorite ALNST joke OCs is a girl who had a massive crush on Ivan and was able to date him for a little while because he felt bored enough to accept her. what follows is the most excruciating insanity inducing half-relationship in existence (they lasted 3 weeks before she gave up trying to understand him)

My younger self found Dear America too depressing because almost all the books featured a death, but I loved The Royal Diaries, which also featured a lot of death, including some pretty tragic stuff (the Anastasia diary was one of my favorites). Doesn't really make sense. Is it less depressing if it happened in real life and therefore has to be part of the story, rather than a fictional death contrived to add obligatory Drama to the narrative?

#random personal stuff #in retrospect TRD were not great literature #or even always good portrayals of their subjects #I came away with some impressions of certain historical figures that were lacking in nuance at best and stereotypical at worst #however it did ignite a love of royal history in me and led me to explore nonfictional sources for further information #so it wasn't entirely a waste of my time #but I do wish that TRD had done a better job of making it clear to the audience what was real and what was fictionalized #because ten-year-old me was taking a lot of nonsense as gospel

no but i honestly can't stop thinking about how back in like 2019-2020 the main couple's storyline taking a backseat for a couple of episodes further into a series to give way for a secondary couple(s)' development was so widespread and we kinda lost it somewhere along the way. not to evoke old spells, but back in the day we had like... love by chance and dark blue kiss and 2moons2 and why r u? and my engineer, and it was the standard that a number of episodes was heavily dedicated to the other couple(s) - especially in series solely focused on romance.

and like... we have mostly kept to the idea of having more than just the main couple, but these days it's almost always a few glances and quick conversations here and there peppered throughout the show, two excruciatingly short moments of them alone closer to the end, and that's about it. the only series i can think of that treated their side-couple seriously was kinnporsche, which i always treat it as an outlier anyway, and potentially also my school president, though thiupor definitely got the current side couple treatment, so it's a bit of a mixed bag. (we also, of course, have moonlight chicken and only friends, but those don't really have side couples - they are all the mains, which is also a great format btw and i'd love to see more of it).
