DRAGON FIVE: Seol Hyeon Dae
More FD Bench, now with reserve DF Hyeon-Dae. Unfortunatey the one I have the less of, but I still like him anyway </3
Tumblr media
He has three younger siblings who are eager for cinema as him, and they beg for in an appearance in his future movie. Hyeon-dae always keeps his promises, though he can't guarantee how good will their appareances be. (They are in dire need ofimproving some acting skills...)
At least they are good supporters of his soccer plays, so he appreciates that.
...He's actually the nicest guy of the whole group. He has no resentments, no self-pressure, no pettiness, no actual anger... He's just a guy with huge ambitions and that's it, as "vanilla" as that might sound. But that doesn't make him an outsider from the other benchers; in fact he does help keeping the group around most of the time.
Ji-Nan grew a liking for him because of that, and they like to hang out around the town when practice is over. Chung-yoon also likes to join in at times, liking to talk with Hyeon-dae (And to keep an eye over the keeper).
Sung-Joon is slightly harder to interact with to due to how much of a show-off he is, but HD did just fine by convincing him to appear in one of his movies; his future award being a "new step for Korean media" (At least that's his choice of words). Both a blessing and a curse, now SJ won't stop talking about that whenever he's with Hyeon-Dae, and how great of an actor he will be...
And while HD does know a lot about korean movies, he isn't very interested on K-Dramas. SJ is the one to talk with him about that.
...Meanwhile with Jung-Won he talked just a bit, but they seem to be in good terms. JW offers a lot of interesting technical information about cameras, surprisingly, so maybe a collaboration could happen in the future.
I guess he could be the "leader" of the benchers? Sung-Joon tends to claim that title himself given he's older, but all the rest believes Hyeon-Dae fits the role better. Even if he doesn't always know what to do most of the time (?
Final thing for now, but midway the asian eliminatories, he had quite the curious encounter in a japanese camera shop: With Adel Siddique, a bencher of the Qatari team with the same exact dream as his (Read their profiles pls). After having a nice conversation about filming equipment the two decided to keep in contact -be it phone numbers or the few social media of the era-. They are still on good terms in the future, but the truth is that they are now focused on their individual careers. Does this mean that they could end up competing for an award? Most likely. I won't say who gets to win the Oscar tho (?
A random tidbit that I want to add here to end is that, for some reason, Hyeon-Dae's 3D sprite made his pupils look like literal minuses ➖➖, similar to those of a goat. The anime went with an approach closer to his actual sprite; pupils still "blocky" but more normal-looking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Source for the pic)
Honestly the latter medium made him look so much better overall. That bowlcut can't be fixed tho, I'll say that (? 😭🙏

It's really surprising that you're so well versed in older fandoms and yet participate in new popular ones (that cdrama, kpop) is this by design? Im in my twenties and my interest turnover is already way slower than it used to be
You know, that’s a really interesting question. I wouldn’t say it’s by design exactly in that I do tend to just follow what strikes my fancy, and I can’t force myself to want to write fic for just anything. (I find it easier to like reading fic without serious involuntary emotional investment, but writing takes more. Vidding I can do on command most of the time, but I don’t usually bother unless I have a lot of feels or I’m fulfilling someone’s prompt.)
However, me getting into BTS was 100% due to me wanting to understand BTS enough to explain to people who weren’t very interested but wanted to know what was going on in fandom lately. Under normal circumstances, I run the dance party at Escapade, the oldest extant slash con. We borrowed vividcon’s thing of playing fanvids on the wall--all of them set to dance music--as the soundtrack for the dance party. This means I’m creating a 3-hour mixtape of fannishness, which has amazing potential to make people feel in the know about Fandom Today... and equal potential to make them feel alienated if nothing they care about shows up. Only about 100-150 people attend the con, so it really is possible to make a playlist that feels inclusive yet informative--it just takes a huge amount of work.
Every year, I do a lot of research on which fandoms are getting big and look for vids from vidders people won’t have heard of, so there is an element of consciously trying to keep up with things. Generally, I only get into these fandoms myself if I had no idea what they were and then suddenly, oops, they’re my kryptonite, like the buddy cop android plot in Detroit: Become Human, which sucked me in hard for like 6 months on the basis of a vid.
(So if you’re into cross-fandom meta and associated stuff as one of your fannish interests, you tend to have broader knowledge of different fandoms, old and new, than if you’re just looking for the next place you’ll read fic. It’s also easier to love vids for unfamiliar things than fic.)
But though I was only looking for a basic primer on BTS, BTS has 7 members with multiple names and no clear juggernaut pairing, not to mention that AU that runs through the music videos and lots of other context to explain. The barrier to understanding WTF was going on at all was high enough that to know enough to explain, I had to be thoroughly exposed... And once I was over that hurdle, oops, I had a fandom.
--
In terms of old vs. new, here’s the thing: kpop fandoms in English and c-drama fandoms in English right now feel a lot like anime fandom in English did in the early 00s. I had a Buddy Cops of the 70s phase in the middle, but my current fannishness is actually a return to my older fannishness in many ways.
What do I mean about them being similar?
Yes, I know some wanker will show up to say I think China, Korea, and Japan are indistinguishable, but that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m talking about the way that I used to routinely meet Italian and French and German fans, Argentinian and Mexican, Malaysian and Indonesian and Filipino too. English-language fandom of SPN or MCU may have all those fans from all those countries, but it feels very American most of the time. English-language fandom of a non-English-language canon is more overtly about using English as a lingua franca.
It also tends to attract people who as a sideline to their fannishness are getting into language learning and translation, which are my other passion in life after fanworks fandom. (I speak only English and Spanish and a bit of Japanese, but I’ve studied German, French, Russian, Mandarin, Old English, and now Korean.)
Nerds arguing about methods of language learning and which textbooks are good and why is my jam. This is all over the place in English-language fandoms of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean media. Those fandoms also tend to be full of speakers coming from a Germanic or Romance languages background who face similar hurdles in learning these languages. (In other words, if you’re a native Japanese speaker trying to learn Korean, the parts that will be hard for you are different than if you’re an English speaker, but you’re also usually not doing fandom in English.)
There’s also an element of scarcity and difficulty of access and a communal attempt to construct a canon (in the other sense) of stuff from that country that pertains to one’s fannishness. So, for example, a primer explaining the genre of xianxia is highly relevant to being a n00b Untamed fan, but just any old thing about China is not. A c-drama adapted from a danmei webnovel is perhaps part of the new pantheon of Chinese shit we’re all getting into, but just any old drama from decades ago is probably not... unless it’s a genre precursor to something else we care about. Another aspect here is that while Stuff I Can Access As A N00b Who Doesn’t Speak The Language may be relatively scarce, there’s a vast, vast wealth of stuff that exists.
This is what it felt like to be an anime fan in the US in 2000. As translation got more commercial and more crappy series were licensed and dumped onto an already glutted market, the vibe changed. No longer were fans desperately trying to learn enough of the language to translate or spending their time cataloguing what existed or making fanworks about a show they stuck with for a bit: the overall community focus turned to an endless race of consumption to keep up with all of the latest releases. That’s a perfectly valid way of being fannish, but if I wanted that, I’d binge US television 24/7.
Anime fandom got bigger, but what I liked about anime fandom in English died, and I moved on. (Okay, I first moved on to Onmyouji, which is a live action Japanese thing, but still.)
Hardcore weeaboos and now fans of Chinese and Korean stuff don’t stop at language: people get excited about cooking, my other other great passion. Times a thousand if the canon is something like The Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty, which is full of loving shots of food preparation. People get excited about history! Mandarin and Japanese may share almost nothing in terms of grammar or phonology, but all of East Asia has influence from specific Chinese power centers historically, and there are commonalities to historical architecture and clothing that I love.
I fell out of love with the popular anime art styles as they changed, and I’m not that into animation in general these days. (I still own a shitton of manga in art styles I like, like Okano Reiko’s Onmyouji series.) I’ve become a filmmaker over the last decade, and I’m very excited about beautiful cinematography and editing. With one thing and another, I’m probably not going to get back into anime fandom, but it’s lovely to revisit the cultural aspects I enjoyed about it via live-action media.
BTS surprised me too, to be honest. I really dislike that early 90s R&B ballad style that infests idol music (not just Korean--believe me, I resisted many rounds of “But Johnny’s Entertainment though!” back in the day). While I like some of the dance pop, I just don’t care. But OH NO, BTS turn out to be massive conscious hip hop fanboys, and their music sounds different. I have some tl;dr about my reactions in the meta I wrote about one of my fanvids, which you can find on Dreamwidth here.
--
But back to your comment about turnover: I know fans from the 70s who’ve had one great fannish love and that’s it and more who were like that but eventually moved on to a second or third. They’re... really fannishly monogamous in a way I find hard to comprehend. It was the norm long ago, but even by the 90s when far more people were getting into fandom, it was seen as a little weird. By now, with exponentially more people in fandom, it’s almost unheard of. I think those fans still exist, even as new people joining, but we don’t notice them. They were always rare, but in the past, only people like that had the stamina to get over the barriers to entry and actually become the people who made zines or were willing to be visibly into fanfic in eras when that was seen as really weird. On top of that, there’s an element of me, us, judging the past by what’s left: only people with an intense and often single passion are visible because other people either drifted away or have seamlessly disappeared into some modern fandom. They don’t say they’re 80 or 60 or 40 instead of 20, so nobody knows.
In general, I’m a small fandoms and rare ships person. My brain will do its best to thwart me by liking whatever has no fic even in a big fic fandom... (Except BTS because there is literally fic for any combination of them, like even more than for the likes of MCU. Wow. Best fandom evar!) So I have an incentive to not get complacent and just stick with one fandom because I would very soon have no ability to be in fandom at all.
My appetite for Consuming All The Things has slowed way down, but it also goes in waves, and a lot of what I’m consuming is what I did back in 2000: journal articles and the limited range of English-language books on the history of m/m sex and romance in East Asia. It’s not so much that I have a million fandoms as that I’m watching a few shows as an expression of my interest in East Asian costume dramas and East Asian history generally.
I do like to sit with one thing and experience it deeply rather than moving on quickly, but the surface expression of this has changed depending on whether I’m more into writing fic or more into doing research or something else.
But yes, I do do a certain amount of trying to stay current, often as a part of research for fandom meta or to help other people know what’s going on. Having a sense of what’s big doesn’t automatically mean getting into all those things, but I think some fans who are older-in-fandom and/or older-in-years stop being open to even hearing what’s new. And if you’ve never heard of it, you’ll never know if you might have liked it.

Kid meme, Energizer Bunny (because we both know they would have more than one kid lol)
((found a few I liked >>))
Name: Harris Mashiro
Gender: male
General appearance: has very messy hair that he tries hard to keep straightened but it ends up frizzed from static often, dyes a cool lightning streak in his hair after learning his dad's hair isn't naturally blue, almost always smiling, likes wearing jackets and headphones
Personality: tries to be tough like his dad, very competitive and tries to one-up Wren any chance he gets; kinda stupid, but a happy stupid. He's got an electric personality and is much more vocal than his siblings, which can often get him in trouble. Probably the clumsiest of all the siblings
Special Talents: inherited an Awakened power similar to his mother's which he's still trying to control, can beatbox and break dance, surprisingly good memory though can't apply what he knows very well
Who they like better: Linnaeus
Who they take after more: Lye
Personal headcanon: Harris was going to be trained like his older brother twin brother Wren in martial arts, but due to his clumsy nature hasn't been very successful. Right now, he wants to be an announcer for fights or sports because while he can't fight well himself, he really enjoys watching and has excellent knowledge on the subjects. Linnaeus is supportive of this and doesn't seem disappointed in his son's lack of martial prowess.
Face Claim: Denki Kaminari (My Hero Academia)
Tumblr media
Name: Oliver Mashiro
Gender: demiboy
General appearance: short like his mom, likes hoodies and blue like his dad, has fiery orange eyes and fluffy blonde hair- the next-to-youngest sibling
Personality: very shy, gullible, and inquisitive with a good eye for details. He keeps quiet around most of his siblings to keep the noise to a minimum and to help him focus on what's happening, more susceptible to crushes when people pay attention to him, tries not to make waves
Special Talents: writing, calligraphy, learning to use dance and martial arts together, tinkers with tech and might pursue a career in the augmentation business
Who they like better: both pretty equally
Who they take after more: Linnaeus
Personal headcanon: named after Linnaeus' mother after she passes, admires the strength he sees in his parents and the struggles they must have gone through. He can read people pretty well and wants to be useful to the world in some way. When he learned about his grandmother, he grew more interested in their family history on both sides. Oliver shows love by making and giving things since he doesn't like to talk much, like his dad. Something tragic might happen to him at some point >>
Face Claim: Yukine (Noragami)
Tumblr media
The Twins
Name: Kohaku and Yeobo (여보)
Gender: female
General appearance: both have gold eyes and platinum blond hair, they are the youngest siblings and shortest, Kohaku is slightly taller, both have prosthetic legs- Kohaku's is the left, Yeobo's is the right (they were born as conjoined twins at the knee and had their affected legs amputated); may be following Lye's family tradition when it comes to earning their ears
Personality: both are very sweet and reserved, they seem to share the same sort of silent connection Linnaeus and Honey had, which can come off as creepy to outsiders. They are absolutely the babies of the family and no one seems to mind.
Special Talents: traditional dancers, still finding themselves and what they're good at
Who they like better: Lye
Who they take after more: a bit of both
Personal headcanon: They stopped having kids after this, mainly because they were going until they had a girl but ending up with twin girls at once, along with their 3 older siblings, it was enough to end any more attempts. Kohaku was originally going to be called Aku which is Lye in Japanese but it also means 'evil' so they settled on a similar sounding name that means "amber." Her sister's name is Korean for "honey" in the more endearing form of the word rather than a direct translation.
Face Claim: Kiri and Yuzu (Konohana Kitan)

Cyrillic is all fun and games until you get to ь ъ and ы the little pricks. And just when you think you've got it Ukrainian hits you with the i ï and ґ
Oh god, tell me about it. The hard/soft signs fall squarely under that category of "things I will not even pretend to understand" that I discussed in the last ask, even if I have (more or less??!!) learned to be able to guess when to write them as an apostrophe, an extra y-sound, or similar. The thing with Cyrillic-based languages, of course, is that it's quite easy to read short words when you first learn the alphabet, but there are.... um... very few short words in Russian, bless its heart. There are also tons of vowel/consonant combinations that are unfamiliar to a native English speaker (try getting your mouth around shchy and similar formulations), so there are just multiple levels of Struggle, lol. At least it's good to learn new things?
I haven't dug quite as much into the regional Cyrillic alphabets, though I do know that some of the sounds change. For example, the Russian g/г sound becomes more of an h in Ukrainian, though the closest thing Russian has to a straight h sound is х, which is transliterated kh and thus pronounced very differently in English. Plus, there are additional adventures in, say, Serbo-Croatian Cyrillic, which adds characters like Ђ, which is one letter in that alphabet but a digraph in Latin (dj or dz). Plus the aforementioned way the letters change shape when itacilized, so g, as written above, is г normally but г in italics. I feel like Kronk in the diner scene from Emperor's New Groove: AW COME ON, MAKE UP YOUR MIND! (See also: the one thousand different pronunciations of e and variations thereof.)
However, I always support learning languages/alphabets other than your own, since language is such an important aspect of appreciating and understanding culture, and so many Americans are shamefully monolingual. I also think that Cyrillic, since it's obviously also Greek-derived and shares a lot of the major letters, is easier for a speaker of a Latin-alphabet language to learn than, say, Japanese or Chinese. (My little sister has learned Khmer, Korean, and Urdu in the last eight years, so I need to catch up?) So yes, we can support each other. ;)

It was one of those moments in your life when you hoped you weren’t just dreaming the whole thing up.
When Chaeyoung and Momo aren’t looking, you pinch your left forearm - but the small prick of pain barely registers amidst the pleasure the two girls were working on your shaft as they shared it between them.
Momo lets your cock, slick with her saliva, pop out of her mouth, grasping it with her left hand and raising it up to reveal your swollen balls; Chaeyoung takes the hint and dives into your crotch, searching for and finding your sacks with her tongue, lathering them with her spit. A sly smile appears on Momo’s lips as she contents herself with watching her younger friend go to town on your nuts. She strokes your swollen cock lazily, and you sigh as you enjoy the feel of her hand pumping your shaft up and down.
You were more than a little surprised when TWICE’s manager approached you after their concert, giving you a hotel keycard and instructing you to show up to that room in half an hour. The concert was fun, but when Chaeyoung locked eyes with you during the encore and then immediately whispered something to Momo you assumed she was just pointing someone out who was nearby; never in your wildest dreams could you have imagined it would lead to this, now, with two members of your favorite girl group naked and on their knees between your spread legs, sharing a blowjob.
Chaeyoung finally ends her time with your balls, letting one pop out of her mouth with a loud slurping sound. Momo immediately resumes her blowjob, taking your shaft into her mouth and bobbing her head up and down, not missing a beat. You sigh involuntarily at the feel of one of the hottest idols in Asia sucking tightly on your shaft; surely this had to be a dream.
You reach down and caress Momo’s shoulder, delighting in the feel of actually touching a woman you thought was forever beyond your reach. Suddenly finding reserves of courage you never thought you had - and encouraged by the lustful look the Japanese girl gives you - you let your hand drift down her upper arm, eventually sliding beneath it to caress her full, round breast, finding and capturing a stiff nipple between your thumb and forefinger and giving it a soft pinch. Momo moans around a mouth full of your cock, and the vibrations it sends up and down your shaft send delicious sparks of pleasure up your spine and straight to your brain.
Chaeyoung watches all of this happen, watches you fondling her friend’s tit, and with a devilish grin she makes a suggestion you are powerless to resist.
“You should fuck her tits.”
The very thought of having you fuck her tits must have flipped a switch inside the older Japanese girl, because she almost immediately stops sucking your dick, giving it one last lick from base to tip before rising from her knees and moving onto the bed you were sitting on. Chaeyoung follows close behind her.
You take a moment to admire the sheer beauty of the two naked females, and the intense contrast between their bodies - each absolutely breathtaking in their own way, their unique features only highlighted by their close proximity to each other. Momo was the more traditional kind of hot, what with her perfectly sculpted model-tier body with curves in all the right places, full breasts and chiseled abs. Chaeyoung, by contrast, was all lean and wiry with muscle, small and tight, like some sort of predator cat always ready to pounce.
“Stop staring and fuck my tits,” Momo says, snapping you back into reality as she lies down on the bed, already cupping those round, full breasts in anticipation.
You straddle her, your legs on either side of her torso. You place your glistening cock between her large mounds, and the tightness you feel when Momo presses her tits around your cock makes you feel dizzy - but when you actually begin to move, thrusting your cock in and out slowly between her soft, warm breasts, you think you might pass out.
“Fuck that’s hot,” you spit, almost involuntarily, the words leaving your mouth before you knew you were saying them. Her breasts feel like heaven around your shaft, warm and tight. Momo’s eyes are focused on the tip of your cock as it appears from between her tits, and she tries playfully to lick it.
Chaeyoung is not idle during all this, and she crawls up behind you, pressing her naked chest against your back and wrapping her arms around your torso.
“It’s your lucky day, isn’t it?” she whispers into your ear, “Getting to fuck two members of your favorite girl group?”
“Fuck yes,” you answer back. Chaeyoung’s implication of even more impending pleasure drove you insane.
“You think you can keep up with us?”
You make the mistake of glancing down at Momo, her hands tightly pressing her breasts around your glistening shaft. She must have felt you staring at her, because she catches your eyes and holds your gaze, her eyes glazed over with pleasure. She moans softly - and it occurs to you that Chaeyoung was fingering her.
“Fuck, I think I’m gonna fucking cum soon.”
It embarrassed you a little, cumming so soon, but the whole situation was so wild, so unexpected, that you doubted anyone could last much longer.
“Cum all over her pretty face,” Chaeyoung hisses, “paint that face and those tits with your cum.”
“Oh, fuck,” you gasp, trying in vain to hold on and prolong the pleasure. But when Chaeyoung brings her fingers to your mouth - stained liberally with what you assumed were Momo’s tangy, slick juices - it all becomes too much to fight.
You thrust a few more times into Momo’s tits before your orgasm overwhelms you, and your cock spurts large ropes of warm, thick semen onto Momo’s cleavage and face, the white liquid landing wetly onto her pretty cheeks. Momo opens her mouth widely and sticks out her tongue, and is rewarded with a few streams landing into and around her mouth. The rest of it falls on her cheeks, her long, graceful neck, and the flushed skin of her upper chest.
“Good boy,” Chaeyoung says, appreciative of the work of art you’d left on her friend’s chest and face.
You watch as Momo finally releases your cock from between her flushed, reddened tits, using her hands to gather up as much of the cum off her face, neck, and breasts as she could, bringing the thick white semen to her face to lick off like some sweet treat. You stumble off her chest, lying down on your side next to the prone Japanese girl.
Chaeyoung almost immediately pounces on Momo like the feline predator you figured her for, pressing herself against Momo and licking your cum off her face. You watch for long, glorious seconds as the younger girl gathers each stream of semen off her friend’s face and breasts with her tongue before swirling it around in her mouth. When she has enough, she raises her head above Momo’s and spits it into the older Japanese girl’s mouth, letting it fall from her pursed lips in a single long, glistening strand. You watch as Momo opens her mouth, gratefully accepting the rope of semen that lands squarely on her pink tongue. When she has received it all, her throat gulps, finally swallowing your cum.
The sight is so intensely erotic that you quickly find your shaft springing back to life. Your left hand almost involuntarily begins to stroke your cock.
“Are you going to just sit there jacking off, or are you gonna fuck me?” Chaeyoung asks.
“If you two are going to fuck, I better get off too,” Momo spits, and you watch as she grasps the top of Chaeyoung’s head with her hands and pushes her downward. Chaeyoung takes the hint and travels down Momo’s body until she is between the Japanese girl’s legs. You take up position behind Chaeyoung, and with one quick thrust, you slip inside the Korean girl’s tight, slick pussy.
You groan out loud at the feeling of first penetration - Momo’s tits were wonderful but being inside a warm, tight pussy was on another level altogether, and the fact that said pussy belonged to one of your favorite idols made it even more surreal. You’d spent so many long hours just staring at photos of these girls - and now you were balls deep inside one of them, ready to give her a hard fucking.
“Fuck me already,” Chaeyoung snaps, looking back at you over her shoulder with fierce eyes, “Fuck me hard. Don’t stop until I cum.”
“Don’t stop until I cum either,” Momo adds. “Then you can fill up this bitch’s pussy with cum.”
You were entirely prepared to pull out when the time came to it, but who were you to refuse Momo’s instructions? And so when you begin to fuck Chaeyoung with long, deep strokes of your cock, you did so knowing you could cum inside her - which made every thrust, every penetration, feel that much better.
Chaeyoung’s lean, tight little body is rocked with each thrust into her pussy, and she uses it as momentum to fuck her friend’s pussy with her mouth, her tongue pressed flat against the Japanese girl’s clit, swirling around it occasionally. You watch as she slips two fingers into Momo’s pussy, curling upward and finding a spot that elicits long moans from the older girl.
You slap Chaeyoung’s firm, tight butt - softly at first, but when she gasps in response and tells you to spank her ass with a fierce tone, you are all too happy to oblige. Soon her cheeks are red and flushed, the room filled with a chorus of breathy female moans, the wet slap of flesh against flesh, and the loud smacks of Chaeyoung being spanked harder and harder.
Momo is the first to cum - she clearly got off on being titfucked and fingered at the same time, and now that Chaeyoung was eating her out while being fucked herself - it was an image that drove the Japanese girl quickly over the edge. She only has time for a quick warning before her body becomes a quivering, shaking mess.
“Oh, fuck-” she gasps, her voice cut out as her body shakes almost violently in orgasm.
Bringing her friend to orgasm must have triggered a similar reaction in Chaeyoung - and Momo’s juices flooding into her tongue clearly helped.
“Oh god, yes, fucking cum for me Momo. Oh god… yes… keep fucking me!”
You increase the pace of your thrusts, slapping Chaeyoung’s sore, red ass more and more - and her pussy tightens and clenches around you with each thrust, the wetness and tightness of her walls increasing exponentially as she reaches her own orgasm.
“Oh fuck, I’m gonna cum!”
“God, Chaeyoung, I’m gonna cum too.”
“Fucking cum inside me. Give me every drop. Fill me up. Fuck. Cum inside my pussy! Oh--”
Like Momo, Chaeyoung’s voice also cuts out as she cums - and you yourself cum soon after, driving yourself as deeply as you could inside the shrieking Korean girl’s pussy as you could before finally releasing a veritable torrent of cum inside her, the warm, thick semen spurting from your tip to paint her inner body in white.
Your mind goes absolutely blank - not only was it mind blowing sex; it was a mindblowing threesome with two of Asia’s hottest idols. What any man on Earth would have given to be in your position now, balls deep inside Son Chaeyoung, having her walls drenched with your cum.
You give her a few more thrusts, delighting in the feel of your juices, hers and yours, wet and thick around your cock. When you finally slip out of her, the flood of cum that appears from between her splayed lips is an image you want to remember forever.
Exhausted, you finally collapse on the bed next to the two sweaty, breathless girls. Chaeyoung is still recovering from her orgasm, but she finds the wherewithal to grab her phone off the nightstand and point it at your still hard cock, drenched with cum.
“Sana would want to see this,” she says, before lying down on Momo’s body, using the older girl’s tits as a pillow. Her tongue pokes out to toy with a stiff nipple, and Momo strokes the younger girl’s hair appreciatively.
“I wonder how she’s doing with her playtoy,” Momo wonders aloud, her tone weirdly innocent given the erotic nature of her words.
Chaeyoung’s phone vibrates, and a sly smile appears on her face upon reading Sana’s reply. She shows the phone first to Momo, who chuckles to herself, before showing you the screen in turn.
On it is a close-up photo of Sana, with a thick, long, hard cock, glistening with saliva, pressed against her cheek. The younger Japanese girl’s face is weirdly cute and innocent, as is the smile on her perfect lips - take away the cock and you’d think she were shooting an album cover photo. You’d always been attracted to the duality of Minatozaki Sana, and never in a million years could you have dreamed you’d see it here, highlighted so intensely.
Chaeyoung’s phone vibrates one more time, and she reads aloud Sana’s reply.
“Sana’s on her way here,” she says slyly, “she thinks maybe she wants to play with two toys tonight.”
“Man, what a lucky day you’re having,” Momo quips. Your shaft is sore and spent, having recently cum twice, but the thought of having a session with Sana brings the first feelings of arousal back into your exhausted flesh.
“I hope you like to share,” Chaeyoung begins, “because you’ll definitely be sharing Sana. You better decide what end of her you want. She loves being spitroasted...”
---
Author’s Note: I legit banged this out in a single quick session, so apologies for any errors/grammar. I got a super hot ask/request from ninjja275 and just had to write it! Feel free to drop your own ask/requests... or if you just wanna talk about your fave idols :)
Looking back at this, damn, this was especially filthy/dirty and totally PWP. It was a nice change of pace from the storyline-driven Dream Girls. Hope you all like it - lemme know if you guys wanna see a Part 2!

sure bubs! thank you for your requests <3 i hope you guys don’t mind that i combined those, since they’re pretty similar! if not, please let me know and i’ll fix it!
Moon Taeil
wants to know EVERYTHING. every single memory you connect with home, your favorite place in your hometown, where you went to school, just wants you to spill!!! brazil is such a beautiful country, and he wants to know all about it!
definitely wants you to teach him some portuguese. i think everyone in nct would learn atleast a few words, because they love learning new stuff, especially something that connects them to you!
plus, it’s so endearing to listen to taeil try to pronounce difficult words :( PLS he’s so cute
Seo Youngho
a m a z e d. brazilian and korean??? huh?? how cool is that!! you need to spill every detail of your parents’ love story. mr johnny would like you to spill the tea, ma’am. definitely bawls atleast once (1) because that shit is so cute.
just like everyone, he’d be so curious about your home and your native tongue, and he demands to have you speak to him in portuguese. can’t understand for shit tho
learns atleast a little to impress your parents the next time they meet!!
Lee Taeyong
flustered. that’s such a cool heritage to have and he honestly can’t decide if he’s envious or proud to have such a stunning girlfriend ?? like ?? wow. lee taeyong must be the luckiest man alive!
different from johnny, ty gets the gossip straight from the source! he bores you to death by forcing you sit down with him and your mom and listening to her for houuuurs about how it all happened
he just wants to treasure you and your values and get to know your culture !! (since he’s planning to wife you up teehee)
Nakamoto Yuta
happy yuta is happy !! as a part of nct’s foreign line, he’s honestly going to be giddy ALWAYS when he gets to meet someone else who isn’t from korea, or not entirely. and if it’s his girlfriend?? even better!
i feel like even though he’s been in korea for so long, he still gets homesick pretty badly. maybe it’s not as frequent anymore, but when it does, yuta feels really down. so to have you share that sentiment with him, it feels like such a relief! you guys carry the same burden
whenever that happens, you plan a big movie marathon with japanese and brazilian movies and spend hours on end cuddling and translating for the other !! he loves you. yuta wants you to know you’re not alone.
Kim Doyoung
this man is so smart he’s going to know some basic portuguese by the end of the week. if you told him about your heritage on monday, doyoung’s gonna walk into the kitchen sunday morning with a “bom dia. tudo bem?” like - what ????
he’s not very fazed by it, since he fell in love with you just the way you are. that doesn’t depend on what nationality you are. still, he makes himself a note to celebrate your culture with you and make the effort to bond with your parents about it, aswell!
first one to sit down in your momma’s kitchen and taste some brazilian dishes. ngl
Jung Jaehyun
is in awe! he loves the fact that your parents’ love transcends countries, no matter if you live in korea or brazil. it’s honestly very romantic to him and he wishes for your relationship to be like that, aswell. soft boy jaehyun :(
wants to try all of your favorite dishes and wants to travel to your hometown and learn all the places by heart where you hang out and get streetfood and everything else !!!!!! he loves you so much and this is just another part of his journey on getting to know you
you weep a little when he tells you “te amo” in front of your family home in brazil. god where can i find myself a jung jaehyun
Kim Jungwoo
sweet babyboy acts disappointed that you’ve just told him now, but he can’t contain his excitedness for long. how cool is that!!! his sweet baby is part brazilian !!!
BIG fan of listening to you speak in your native tongue with family members. when you first spend christmas in brazil with him and your relatives, he spent the entire evening playing with your fingers and making heart eyes at you while you speak in portuguese
it just sounds so dreamy ?? gosh your voice was given to you by an ANGEL. and for his s/o to speak in a foreign language so smoothly? wow....
Dong Sicheng
like any other member of nct’s foreign line, sicheng’s eyes will immediately light up when he first finds out about your roots. he feels so connected to you because of the fact that you must’ve gone through the same struggles, or atleast some of them!
to make you both feel home, he proposes the idea to have a dinner solely with chinese and brazilian dishes!! it’s so much fun that you spend hours prepping food and giggling around while smudging oil on the other’s cheek or pour some flour there.... until you cook to much and have enough to feed ot21
sicheng loves you no matter what your nationality is, but he’s so glad that you want to teach him all about your heritage and the family stories and everything beyond that. you’re his soulmate! knowing everything about you comes with that. i’m gonna cry i love sicheng
Mark Lee
honestly i could go in depth about how mark would be so shocked but why put it into words when there’s the perfect kaomoji to explain it. this is him, an accurate portrayal: (*〇□〇)……!
another member of the foreign squad, mark loves exchanging memories of your hometowns and comparing experiences when being in another country! it’s different and the same at once, and it’s a very wholesome experience for both of you. you’re close already, but at the end of it it feels like you’ve seen an entirely different side of each other. a good one!
sweet babyboy learns all the portuguese pet names in the world to make you feel loved :(( he wants to give you a piece of home because to mark, you already are his home.
Lee Donghyuck
look me in the eyes and tell me donghyuck wouldn’t IMMEDIATELY beg you to teach him all the swear words that come to your mind right now. do it. change my mind
besides that, he loves listening to you tell stories about your upbringing with two parents that come from different countries. he cannot properly relate to it, but he’s still going to genuinely invest himself into it and laugh and empathize with you. haechan loves you so, so, so much, and your culture is a part of you. so he’s going to love that, aswell.
you will regret your decision to teach him said swear words the second your dad walks into the living room to the sound of donghyuck cussing out his mario kart character in portuguese. rip y/nhyuck,,,,, you will be dearly missed,,,,,,,,,,

So what my June-July study plan ENDED UP being:
Clozemaster experiments - mainly going by common words or fast track (listening game mode), or radio mode (so just listening in background generally - which I could do more if I tried). I’ve been doing mostly Japanese and a bit of Chinese, most days.
Reading guardian (partly L-R method, partly just re listening to chapters, partly redoing old chapters, partly just reading the actual physical book in my hand just... in general engaging with the audiobook and textbook lol)
Reading tiny bits of textbooks/study books (very tiny bits, just random stuff basically, watched a little of that YouTube Learn Korean in Korean cause it’s cool tbh.. I rediscovered my Barron’s At A Glance Korean book, which btw the At A Glance books are all great they have grammar guides and pronunciation guides and a bunch of useful words they’re compact but very nice I used to have a French one).
Language Exchange 1-2 hours a week. Not much but it’s regular and requires me to speak and write 30 min to 1 hour a week so it’s more than I had to have an active vocab before this lol...
Basically I’m busy with things. Anyway I will mention at the end of July if Clozemaster’s been useful! I am fairly sure I’m just planning to keep doing this stuff through July. I have other books I wanna read and clozemaster easy to just do randomly, and guardian I still want to keep reading.
My thoughts after just a few days are: I like Radio mode mainly because I will actually do it (whereas flashcards I will forget and am not always in the mood if I remember). I like that I see text during Radio mode if I want to look (again like flashcards but I don’t have to remember). I like that clozemaster specifically limits reviews per day so you always see a mix of new and old sentences (which is good since I get demotivated by reviews-only). I actually am noticing some clearer understanding of some parts of Japanese, mainly because I’m seeing SO MANY sentence examples for each grammar point and word (in the common word track), whereas in Nukemarine’s LLJ memrise courses I didn’t usually see “weird to me” but super common grammar early on and regularly at random.
So I feel like these clozemaster sentences are much more similar to stuff I ACTUALLY see in manga etc grammar wise and word usage wise - as in a mix of politeness levels, some shortening of common words, a mix of whether it’s in hiragana or kanji, different conjugations and verbs stacked together and common phrases. Which if you’re a total beginner might feel drowning tbh. But I’m at a point where Kanji generally look familiar so it’s just sound being drilled in for me, and I know a lot of the basic N5-n4 grammar and bits and pieces beyond from other stuff, so I can recognize if I’m looking at adjectives or verbs doing something and if it has to do with politeness or grammar.
One thing I like a LOT about clozemaster and I’m not even sure if it’s intentional but it splits off things like なさい as “do”, like ください which is like please do X, so you can see like しださい - please do something, it splits of たい as “want” to, so したい want to do, 見たい want to see. And like if you’ve read genki you’re used to those endings as conjugations of verbs, but seeing them like this sort of like their own verb attached to another verb stem makes it easier for me to recognize the verb stems, and the conjugations and their specific purpose. I’m not explaining quite how it does it since I’m not looking at the app this second, but just this way of breaking down the words is something I haven’t really seen in textbooks, and usually word lookup apps only look up the word stem so you can’t click たい to figure out that part and if it’s part of a new word or part of a conjugation (and if so then what it means). Clozemaster also links all definitions to jisho.org so I can go read more thorough explanations.
I think the clozemaster sentences would compliment reading a grammar guide like my Japanese in 30 Hours, or Tae Kim (which helped me with grammar a lot), or Cure Dolly. Because these sentences are good examples of realistic in life stuff you might run into but not simplified to only have one “new” grammar thing per sentence. So grammar specific sentences made as examples would be nice as a comparison to get a better handle on the rules/concrete patterns (ohhh or my Japanese Sentence Patterns book). However I am pleasantly surprised to find few actual totally-weird sentences so far in Japanese or Chinese (just some not literal translations so far), so I do actually think yeah Clozemaster would probably be a relatively similar substitute to learning a language primarily by sentence mining (like people who collect 2k-20k sentences from media with around 1 unknown things per sentence and learn by studying those sentences with srs flashcards). I see the benefit in the sense that... again, these sentences have more frequent examples of grammar I actually run into in shows and manga, versus my learner-material-made sentences in Nukemarine’s Memrise courses and Genki that do NOT cover this stuff this early (or Tae Kim’s which only barely touches on a few of these in the first section).
However, of course being more like what I see in manga and shows means it’s also less transparent to understand (and explained less well), so it really does feel a lot like studying ones own self-made sentence cards just less geared toward you personally. So a person who enjoys sentence mining would benefit more just continuing to sentence mine probably, but for a person who only wants premade convenient stuff (hello), this feels like a good balance between Nukemarine’s much more learner-geared material and native-material sentence mined stuff.
I also happened to find audio files for glossika back when it was a book and! I have some opinions. Mainly that it is literally premade “audio flashcard files” which I love studying from. So I will be experimenting with using those at some point - I will say the old glossika books opened with summaries of super important grammar words, key words, and grammar, which is nice and reminds me of when I look up about 300 keywords and a grammar guide when I start a new language. I also like that glossikas audio files seem to basically be like JapaneseAudioLessons.com or my Chinese SpoonFed Audio files. Which I learn very well from, particularly listening skills and some shadowing practice. And the glossika files have real voices so that’s nice (compared to clozemaster which has phone voices).
I’d still like to read... a lot of the books I got... see I just am trying to get through some lol ToT
#June#June progress#ok so my brain was like LETS LEARN SOME KOREAN#and some things I realized? damn I really do know a LOT of Japanese. because just reading hiragana with ease? that’s something I learned!#and in Korean I absolutely can’t read Hangul well yet and I FORGOT what that was like. to get ur brain to get used to that and remember lol!#also my Japanese I know all the main particles and a lot of basic grammar and recognize a TON of kanji#when reading even if I can’t pronounce them. so I can look at a Japanese sentence and#parse it very well for subject object verb location tense particles keywords versus probably skippable words#which means if stuffs unknown mostly I can just target what to look up#but Korean I don’t even recognize particles on Sight and the mental DRAIN of trying to is a LOT I forgot Japanese used to#be so much harder. like Japanese is still hard to me. but NOT as hard as it was as a beginner.#whereas Korean reminds me how hard it was lmao. just like. Japanese has reached mu critical beginner point#where I can start reliably reading with a dictionary if I want to. which took 6 months for French. 8-10 months for Chinese#took 2.8 years for Japanese but it eventually happened lol ToT#so like. that means some stuff IS ok to read like some manga! my brain isn’t constantly struggling!!#and goddamn trying Korean I was reminded ToT. also it’s a TRIP because my Chinese is by far better than my Japanese#I know all the grammar when I read. and immediately know if a word is important or just a side detail. usually know most words in sentences#or all. the main hard part is just listening recognition to my less well learned words I can mainly only read. and shadowing cause my mouth#doesn’t wanna cooperate. but my Chinese is SO fucking far ahead. my Chinese isn’t quite at my French reading level#but it’s getting closer for sure.

INU KPOP AU
CHAPTER ONE: A KING’S PLAN, AND A VOICE WITHOUT A FACE
-MIROKU-
“Miroku?”
Miroku looked up from his phone, knowing he probably looked as bleary-eyed as he felt. Sesshomaru, always a fan of dramatic flair, kept the lights in his top-floor office purposely dimmed, and so even in the waiting room outside the double doors to the inner sanctum, it was hard to see very well. Or at all, really.
Kagura stood there in her smart straight-legged jeans and heels, chewing on the lid of a ballpoint pen and squinting down at her customary appointment diary. It seemed even after years of working side-by-side with her oh-so-famous household name of a client, she hadn’t completely adjusted to the lack of visibility either.
Miroku had thought to ask her about it once, several years ago, and she had just shrugged and laughed quietly to herself, saying something about Sesshomaru having his quirks just like every other genius” but saying it with clear fondness.
“You can go in now. ‘The King’ is ready and waiting.”
They exchanged a smirk, and Miroku stood up from the plush bench (which wouldn’t have looked out-of-place in a museum exhibit about Louis XIV) and cracked his neck.
He’d only been waiting forty minutes. New record.
But then again, Sesshomaru ran on Sesshomaru time. And if Sesshomaru needed to delay a meeting to call his psychic and see just how the stars were aligning today for creative efforts...well, more power to him.
“Ah, Miroku,” Sesshomaru said, giving the slightest hint of a smile as Miroku poked his head in through the heavy office doors. “Come on in and have a seat.”
Miroku ambled up to one of the large high-backed chairs in front of the desk and dropped himself into it. This room was even darker, as Miroku had well known, and so when the chair on his right spoke, he had to fight not to jump in surprise.
“Sup, Rap Monk.” Inuyasha wasn’t smiling welcomely, but he did, at least, raise a single hand in greeting before returning the bitter scowl to his face and staring across the desk at his older brother.
“I wish you wouldn’t call me that anymore,” Miroku sighed, running a hand over his face. “I didn’t choose that stage name to begin with, and it’s haunted me ever since.”
“Would you like something to drink, Miroku? Coffee, tea, sparkling water?” Sesshomaru held up a hand as if ready to summon Kagura to retrieve whatever it was.
“No, I’m good, thanks. What’s this all about?”
Sesshomaru took on a solemn posture, folding his hands upon his desk. If he noticed Kagura scurrying around behind him and frantically lighting even more of the candelabras that dotted every other surface in the room, he didn’t give any indication as he heaved a great sigh.
“As you know,” ‘The King’ began, “my foolish little brother was just dropped from Naraku’s label. The group is disbanding and the label is reassigning the other members to various new projects.”
“Dropped? Fired, more like,” Inuyasha growled under his breath. “Thrown out like it was nothing, and after all these years I busted my ass - “
“There is obviously much to say about this,” Sesshomaru interrupted sternly, “but that is not what I’m concerned about at the moment. That’s not why you were summoned here, Miroku.”
Summoned. Like I’m a slave on retainer.
Well, to be fair, Sesshomaru’s album sales didn’t lie, did they?
Miroku would jump on command if he had to just to get a piece of the action, especially after long months of sporadic freelance producing work that were threatening to force him to - gasp - downgrade his apartment in Seoul. The very idea!
“I’m guessing you want me to produce some tracks to start Inuyasha off on a solo career?” Miroku awkwardly rubbed at the back of his neck. “Are you gonna finance him to start out or - “
“I can finance my own damn self if I need to, thanks.” Inuyasha leaned back in the chair and crossed a leg over his lap.
And that was probably true.
Inuyasha, in the very beginning, had purposely signed to a label unconnected to his outrageously famous brother, had done his best to gain fame the hard way with talent and commitment and that charisma of his. He’d been, inarguably, the breakout star of his group, and had become the face of Naraku Entertainment.
Until a few months ago. When it all came crashing down.
The press had freaked out. The fans had freaked out. But Naraku Entertainment’s decision stood, and all that momentum had been squashed like an unexpecting insect on the kitchen floor.
“We are of the opinion,” Sesshomaru said, in a way that made it sound like it wasn’t anyone’s opinion but his own, “that we need to keep Inuyasha behind-the-scenes for now, so to speak. In order for him to come through this unscathed, we will need the power of the fans behind us.”
That wasn’t going to be easy. The Japanese fans had at first been outraged on Inuyasha’s behalf, but in the span of twenty-four hours they had turned, blaming him for busting up their favorite group, blaming him for being selfish.
Sesshomaru must have seen the uncertainty on Miroku’s face (which was once again, a miracle in this candlelit room covered in crushed velvet drapery), because he quickly went on. “We’re going to extend this company of mine, this label, to include a whole new crop of Japanese idols and entertainers. And we’re going to concentrate almost entirely on the Korean market.”
“Ahhh, so that’s why you wanted me to fly up here,” Miroku said, breaking into a sly smile. “Because I’m based in Seoul now.”
“We’re going to start with a female group. A small one, no more than four or five members. I want girls fluent in both Japanese and Korean.”
“A girl group? Why not a - “
“Because if it’s a bunch of guys, the press is going to think I’m just forming a new group for myself, and they’ll go ballistic and call me an ungrateful egomaniac,” Inuyasha supplied, glaring down at his clenched fist on the arm of his chair.
“Precisely,” Sesshomaru said. “And besides, this will be something grand, something the world has never seen before. A group of Japanese artists performing entirely in Korean for Koreans. It will make the home market see what they are missing, and will drum up support for a glorious comeback for all.”
“Uh...huh…?” Miroku gave a bewildered frown. “So you want me to...what, exactly?”
“Oh for fuck’s sake, he’s hiring you, idiot.” Inuyasha’s tone was growly, but from what Miroku could see in this cave of platinum records and eccentricity, he was smirking.
“To…?”
“To help me, to help Inuyasha form this group, produce and write the songs, and grow the label’s influence in a market you must know quite intimately by now.”
Holy shit. “Oh, okay, yeah that sounds like a plan.” Understatement of the century right there.
“Your first task is this,” Sesshomaru said, “I already know I want Ayame in the group. She’s been going through a similar situation with her label as Inuyasha was with his, and she’s looking to make a change. I can handle that part; she’s a good friend.”
To a man this famous, Ayame, who at one time was built up as “Japan’s Newest Idol Princess,” a girl whom everyone between the ages of twelve and forty knew, was simply “a good friend.” Oh, to live the life these people lead every day.
“A-Alright.” This was happening so fast. One minute you’re thinking of selling your old memorabilia to make rent, and the next…
“I want the others to be largely unknowns. New discoveries. I don’t want the typical formula, where girls in their early teens sign horrific contracts and are reduced to dancing, singing soldiers by the time of their debut. I want the emphasis to be that here at Taisho Entertainment, we don’t need that kind of rote repetition to make stars from nobodies.”
Miroku was starting to pick up what Sesshomaru was putting down, and it both intrigued him as a concept and terrified him beyond belief. “You want to form a fully realized K-pop girl group using girls without any formal training in the system?”
“That’s exactly what I want.”
Miroku gulped. That meant combing through thousands upon thousands of Japanese girls, weeding out the ones who couldn’t speak Korean first, then weeding out the mediocre ones, then weeding out the ‘girls-who-sing-well-but-have-no-stage-presence’ and the ‘girls-who-can-dance-their-feet-off-but-have-voices-like-dying-cats’...
“You got it.” Why do I feel like I just signed up for guaranteed panic attacks and insomnia for the next several months, or even years?
“I’ll expect a list of some good prospects to explore by the end of the week,” Sesshomaru said, “You’ll need to work closely with my brother on this. The priority here is untapped talent, and if we find a girl who’s usable, we’ll help her learn the rest.”
Time to hit up karaoke bars and YouTube, I guess.
“You’re dismissed. I’ll summon you both again in a week’s time to look over what you’ve found and work out our plans from there.”
Like a good little soldier, Miroku stood and left the office. Inuyasha sighed behind him and followed, but at a more reluctant pace.
“Where do we even start?” Inuyasha griped, shoving his hands into his pockets and kicking at the ground.
Ding-ding-ding. Lightbulb.
“Wait,” Miroku said, pulling out his phone and going to his streaming app. “I can’t believe I didn’t think of it a second ago. I found this duo on my random playlist just last week. Apparently they’re based at Busan National University, they’re Japanese nationals, and they play the coffeehouse circuit.”
Inuyasha peered over his shoulder at the band’s profile page, emblazoned with the words ‘JxK, LOL’ which was, admittedly, a pretty terrible name for a band under any circumstances.
“No photos,” Inuyasha pointed out, raising an eyebrow. “That’s promising. You’re right, Miroku. Brilliant idea. I see why my brother’s gonna pay you a million gazillion - “
“Alright, alright,” Miroku said irritatedly. “Enough with the snark. I know we don’t know what either of them looks like, but just listen to this girl’s voice.”
He chose a song and hit play.
(AUTHOR’S NOTE: HI I WILL BE COMING IN LIKE THIS QUITE FREQUENTLY TO TELL Y’ALL WHEN TO HIT PLAY ON THE LINK FOR MAXIMUM IMMERSION. OF COURSE YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO IT ONLY WHEN I SAY SO, YOU CAN LISTEN TO YOUR HEART’S CONTENT HOWEVER THE HELL YOU WANNA, BUT STILL, CONSIDER THIS YOUR CUE TO PLAY THE SONG IF YOU HAVEN’T ALREADY OK BYEEEE)
They both stood there, both utterly enraptured.
As the song played, the skeptical furrow in Inuyasha’s brow seemed to gradually smoothe out, and Miroku had to fight back a laugh of triumph.
“Okay, so she can sing,” Inuyasha said stubbornly after the last notes rang out and they were left in silence once more. “She can really sing. But aside from knowing that she’s somewhere in the huge-ass city of Busan, how can we possibly find out more about her? We don’t even know her name!”
With a flourish that would have made Sesshomaru tear up with pride, Miroku pulled up the band’s tiny social media page. Still no photos or details, but there, aha, a small list of upcoming gigs (all coffeehouses and restaurants, of course).
“Guess we got a date,” Miroku snarked.
Inuyasha sighed, blowing a lock of silvery hair out of his face. “Guess I gotta pack for a flight to Korea.”
“Pack for a week,” Miroku called after his retreating back, “It’s gonna be a busy one.”

[ARTICLE] EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BLACKPINK.
Coachella has a long history of overlooking women, and 2019 shows some big changes: not only are Western women getting more of a chance, but Japanese and South Korean bands too. As Blackpink takes to the stage in California, we take a look at perhaps East Asia's biggest girlband
Tumblr media
t has probably not escaped your notice by now that K-Pop is kinda big worldwide. BTS are getting the kind of fawning adoration in London and New York that The Beatles once got, and other bands are taking part in the Korean Invasion too: Blackpink, a relatively young South Korean girlband, will become the first K-Pop act to ever play Coachella.
It’s worth noting Coachella has expanded its vision to other parts of Asia as well: Perfume will also be the first Japanese pop act to play the huge California festival. But Blackpink are particularly notable as they have achieved staggering success since their debut single, 'BOOMBAYAH', in 2016: the sort of success only a few bands, like Girl’s Generation, knew before them. But where their predcessors failed to break the western market, Blackpink look set to become international superstars.
K-Pop might not be your thing: it draws a lot on western pop tropes, is almost impossibly slick, and as an industry it isn’t without its fair share of problems. However, if the music or the atmosphere isn’t for you, it’s still worth getting to know one of the biggest girlbands in the world: Blackpink are perfectly engineered to get stuck in your head, and are a fascinating insight into what pop music is today.
Backstory
Blackpink, like a lot of South Korean pop music, came out of the country’s particular system of training: a kind of pop music conservatoire. YG Entertainment, the group’s Korean team, house their own training program which the band members began to join around 2010. YG tried potential band members out all across the world, which shows in the international lives of the four members: Jisoo is a South Korean native, as was Jennie who went on to spend time in New Zealand and is fluent in English; Rosé, who lived in Melbourne, auditioned in Sydney; Lisa auditioned in her native Thailand. The preference is for young, ethnically Korean performers fluent in the language but that’s flexible: Lisa didn’t speak a word of Korean before coming to train.
Arriving in Seoul, the band estimated that there were between 10-20 aspiring performers all going through the same training: 12 hours a day, seven days a week, learning to dance, sing and rap. Monthly tests helped to prove people’s strengths and eliminate the weakest in the pack: one scored an A, B or C. There are plenty of videos out there on YouTube of people who flunked out of the training to become a K-Pop star.
The members all started at different times: Jennie joined in 2010, Lisa and Jisoo in 2011, and Rose in 2012. They debuted in 2016. It was hard training, difficult for those who had moved away from home, but the four bonded, and are all close friends. Which is good when you only get one day off a fortnight.
The members
As previously mentioned, there are four members: Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo and Rosé. Jennie often leads off songs and is a solid thriple-threat; Jisoo and Rosé are usually the ones bringing you vocals; Lisa is a top notch rapper.
Becoming an 'idol' in South Korea also carries with it the burden of needing to seem astonishingly perfect. One could argue this might be why bands like SixBomb go through extensive plastic surgery (they featured both their before and after appearances in the video for their song ‘Becoming Prettier’) or why the lead singer of boy band SHINee was found dead in his apartment in 2017 with a note saying he was “broken from inside”. It also leads to their members having to portray images that are jointly virginal and also deeply available: one of the first big scandals involved Jong Hyun back in 2010, back when South Korea's paparazzi started to boom. K-Pop fans can be known to be particularly judgmental of acts: take for example the infamous ‘black ocean’ of 2008, when the ur-Girls Generation, SNSD, came on stage to a purposeful blackout of the entire audience’s glowsticks as a protest. You can hear them fighting back the tears as they perform to what looks like an empty stadium.
Blackpink seem interested in getting away from that expectation. “We always wanted to be out there, to be more true to ourselves and a little more free,” Jennie told Billboard earlier this year. “Even we can get things wrong sometimes. We want to just show them the real us.”
K-Pop idols are known for often being very fluid as to how many creative projects they have on the go: bands like After School, for example, where members ‘graduate’ and new ones enter, also features sub-groups Orange Caramel and A.S. Red & Blue. Girls Generation, LOONA and other big bands also have sub-groups and solo careers. Blackpink is no different: though they’re still going strong, Jennie has also released her first single as a solo artist. It’s sort of like the Avengers all having their own movies: a way of maintaining the brand without over-working the main unit.
Songs and albums
Like most K-Pop bands, Blackpink had a debut performance of a debut single which was the litmus test over whether they would be a bop or a flop. That single, Boombayah, is a personal favourite: it’s probably the most dynamic and poppy of their universally dynamic and poppy music, not dropping into anything sultry or slow. It’s also got a great dance routine (part of the fun of K-Pop) and the video became the fastest debut music video of a K-Pop act to reach 100 million views on YouTube.
Their 2018 single 'Ddu-Du Ddu-Du' is the highest-charting K-Pop single in the US Billboard charts, and is a bit more sexy and vicious. New single, ‘Kill This Love’, continues a very similar vibe: lots of horns, easier to grind to than throw shapes to.
It’s interesting to hear how the most successful parts of western pop music have been absorbed and fused with East Asia’s own highly successful, high octane pop industry: their songs always feature rap, but their choruses are often sounds rather than words (‘ddu-du ddu-du’, for example, is effectively onamatopeia for a machine gun bullet round) so anyone can sing along.
When it comes to albums, Blackpink have so far released two EPs: Square Up in 2018, and Kill This Love in 2019. In Japan they released an EP Blackpink and a studio album Blackpink in your area. A lot of songs overlap between these various releases, but your safest bet to get the whole is to listen to Blackpink in your area.
Live performances
As mentioned before, choreography is a huge part of what Blackpink do: K-Pop bands are known for their specific, tight group dance routines that are the same every time they perform the song that it goes along with, and the bands tend to release rehearsal footage on their YouTube channels so people can learn the dance too. It’s also rare to watch people cover the songs without the expectation being they also do the routine alongside. It’s hard to stress how popular these routines and the choreography videos are: within two days, the ‘Kill This Love’ choreo video had over 14m views.
youtube
Generally, the songs work to give each of the members a part that shows off their talents as rappers, singers and/or dancers. Though the band don’t have writing credits on their songs, they do have an input into their material, including making sure each of them gets the best part for them. Any performance will give you a good idea of what each brings to the table, though perhaps ‘BOOMBAYAH’ will do this most comprehensively: it was, after all, their first outing.
The videos
If you’ve never seen a K-Pop video, you’re in for a bloody treat. Whether it’s the crispness of SHINee’s ‘1 of 1’ (don’t watch if you don’t want to buy a suit after watching) or the stern, sassy dance video to CL’s ‘Hello Bitches’ (choreographed by Parris Goebel, who also did Justin Bieber’s ‘Sorry’ and Ciara’s ‘Level Up’) they are real production numbers.
youtube
Blackpink are no exception, though even in a few short years the vision of their videos has grown a lot: while the video for Boombayah serves you early 00s Rihanna, or even Britney and Madonna’s ‘Me Against The Music’, 'Kill This Love' is just a huge camp treat that sits somewhere between ‘Bad Romance’, ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ and the Pussycat Dolls’ ‘Don’t Cha’. It also contains the classic turn-of-the-millennium image of a woman crying while driving a car, a trope I’m glad to see the return of.
Who should I listen to next if I love Blackpink?
Take the plunge into K-Pop! It's a vast and varied world, but there are lots of brilliant girlbands who will bring something new to the table for you. Spotify has a lot of phenomenally good playlists to delve into it, so just listen to a few songs and see what it is you like and work from there.

Language survey! I love when surveys have cute lil gimmicks like this.
Country? Howdy, I come from the Philippines. Do not recommend.
Do you have a second language in your country? I don’t think we have an official second language today. Below our two official languages (Filipino and English) we have hundreds of native languages spread out across different regions and provinces, like Cebuano – but none of them are officially second languages. I do know that for a time, Spanish was mandated by law to be our second language and it was even required to be taught in all schools, but it was scrapped quite some time ago.
How many languages do you speak fluently? Just two – Filipino and English. I can sometimes read Cebuano through context clues because some words sound very similar to Filipino, but I wouldn’t survive reading a conversation, much less a novel.
Does your language have words adopted from English? We have SO MANY. Filipino has admittedly been underdeveloped and neglected, and the country has always put much more effort in learning English under the belief that it would help us economically and compete in the global scene – it really shows the worst of colonial mentality. Unfortunately that meant our own language was put in the backseat, and a lot of people continue to put a lot of shame onto those who are more fluent in Filipino than English. A few examples: We usually refer to science as ‘siyensa,’ even though the native word for it is agham. Biscuit is just ‘biskwit,’ leader is just ‘lider,’ and gadget is just ‘gadyet.’ In essence, we use a lot of English words, just given the Filipino spelling to mimic how we would pronounce them.
Is English important for an individual in your country? Like I said, speaking in English is prized and more important than knowing and loving our own native language. It’s a result of nearly 400 years of being colonized by Spain, US, and Japan, and these countries’ efforts to eliminate any piece of native culture than we had left. By the time we gained independence, we’ve put so much pride in people who can fluently speak English, and embarassment to those who can’t.
What language you like speaking in? Not to sound like a hypocrite lmao but English. It’s easier to learn and more convenient to use, and consider it an effect of the aforementioned patronizing/excessive promotion of the English language over here.
What’s your favorite language? Maybe Korean? It’s easy to understand and learn, and it has a very rich history as well.
What’s the native language spoken in China? Don’t they have a bunch of languages as well? I know the official one is Mandarin, but like us they also have other regional ones like Cantonese and Hokkien.
What’s the strangest language have you ever head? Don’t wanna sound racist/language-ist but if I absolutely had to answer this question, German has always sounded a bit strange to me haha. I think cos it sounds a little aggressive???
Do you wish your country has another language instead of the present one? Not really. I just wish more people appreciated Filipino. We have a beautiful native language, and I wish we were a little more proud of it.
What language do the neighboring countries of where you live speak? We’re an archipelago so we technically have no neighboring countries. But coming from an Austronesian region, the closest countries to us have languages that definitely have Malay origins.
What languages are spoken the most throughout the world? I know Mandarin is the most-widely spoken language, followed by English and then maybe Spanish? andddd I’m guessing Hindi is also somewhere at the top considering India’s population.
Do you know anyone who is monolingual? Aren’t a bunch of Americans? Hahahaha
Do you know anyone who is bilingual or multilingual? Nearly all Filipinos are at least bilingual.
Would you like to raise multilingual children? It honestly depends on where (geographically) I end up when I have kids. If I end up staying in the Philippines, I’d raise them the same way I was – learning Filipino and English. But if I end up migrating somewhere with a native language, I would encourage them to speak in all three. I definitely won’t make my kids forget their Filipino roots.
Can you think of some disadvantages of being monolingual? I’m not monolingual but I’m guessing it would be a pain to be in a country where most people are speakers of a different language. I’ve been to countries where people spoke zero English and it was sooooo hard to communicate and get to places then.
What other languages are spoken in your nation, including minority groups and the languages of immigrants? PH has a very rich culture and we have tons of regional languages, which include Tagalog, Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Ilokano, Maranao, Ivatan, several variations of Bikolano, Aklanon, Chavacano, Kapampangan, Tausug, Surigaonon, and literally a hundred more. My country is also a favorite for immigrants because of the climate and the cheap cost of living here, so we also have a healthy population of Korean, Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic speakers.
Do you think that a language other than English should be used as an “international language”? I know Mandarin is slowly racing to become a new lingua franca, but I’m already happy with English.
When you study a language, do you like to study reading, writing, speaking and listening? Writing. I want to make sure /I/ can apply it first before I read or listen to other people.
What dialects does your language have? There are so many dialects in our various languages. In Tagalog there are Batangueno, Marinduqueño, and Morong dialects; Cebuano has a Boholano dialect; and Bikolano has tons of dialects spread out in Bicol’s different municipalities.
What languages are spoken in:
Brazil? I’m gonna guess Portuguese. But I did think for a long time that their official language was Spanish lmao.
Mexico? Spanish. Hi, fellow colonizees!
Switzerland? Ok, I’m gonna take a wild guess with German because there’s a family from a show I watch – The Return of Superman (a Korean variety show that shows little kids bonding with their dads lmao) – that features a Swiss mom, and she and the kid solely communicate in German. I dunno the other major languages, though.
Australia? English, for the most part < Yeah, this.
Canada? I think French and English < Also this? Lane can confirm! Hahahaha

[INTERVIEW] AleXa makes her debut with "Bomb"! + Interview
Tumblr media
AleXa, also known as Alex Christine, made her official debut with the explosive title track "Bomb" on October 21st. AleXa has been involved in the K-Pop industry for the past three years competing on multiple high-profile competition shows, garnering a supportive fanbase along the way, and signing with a top K-Pop production team. The catch? She's only 22 years old, grew up in the United States, and for the first 21 years of her life hadn't spoken a word of Korean. So how does a small-town girl from Oklahoma wind up as a K-Pop star?
AleXa's K-Pop story began in 2016 when she entered in—along with over 5,000 other contestants—to compete on Soompi's new survival show Rising Legends. Not only was she chosen to compete, she also ended up winning after receiving nearly 1 million fan votes! After being crowned 'Rising Legend', AleXa released the single "Strike It Up" in partnership with Soompi and CUBE Entertainment.
But the journey didn't end there! In 2017, AleXa signed with Zanybros and became the first to debut under their artist agency ZB Label. Zanybros is renowned in the industry for producing MVs for some of the biggest names in K-Pop including BTS, SNSD, EXO, and many more.
In 2018, AleXa once again beat out thousands of competitors and became one of 96 contestants on Mnet's singing competition program "Produce 48". Now, having overcome two survival shows and joined a top production company, AleXa is here to make her mark on K-Pop. After releasing the MV to her debut song "Bomb" on Youtube, AleXa successfully garnered over a million views in under 48 hours!
"Bomb" is described as a "powerful dance track combining Brazilian Funk and electronic elements matched to a choreography inspired by Afrobeats and Dancehall moves". It was created by a Swedish team at EKKO MUSIC RIGHTS that has written and produced tracks for TWICE, Red Velvet, NCT, and more.
OurKpop recently had the privilege of interviewing AleXa ahead of her debut. In our interview, AleXa shares her personal debut journey, what "Bomb" means to her, her experience in the K-Pop industry, and a fun Halloween story!
Would you be able to explain AleXa? Who is AleXa?
AleXa is an AI created by ZB Corporation. In “Bomb” she can be seen as awakening from being shut down, reprogramming herself, and figuring out where she is and what she’s destined to do.
You’ve mentioned wanting to debut with a stage name since Alex Christine doesn’t sound very “idol-like”. What was the decision behind AleXa? What does the X in AleXa mean?
The decision behind debuting with the name AleXa is quite simple. ZanyBros was the first company in Korea to shoot music videos using the Alexa camera, and therefore the name Alexa is very precious to them. As I am their first artist, they bestowed the upon me.
The “X” in AleXa itself stands out, when written, as I want to stand out in the industry and make a statement.
How is it being able to debut? What kinds of emotions are you going through?
Being able to debut and finally seeing all the fruits of our labor come together in such an awesome music video like “Bomb”, it’s truly humbling.
I have experienced many emotions during this whole process; most of them positive and happy ones, however there are, of course, nerves and anxious emotions and play as well.
What was your biggest challenge while getting ready to debut?
My biggest challenge while getting ready for debut was the Korean language. Having grown up in America 21 years of my life, having never spoken a lick of Korean, the language has been the biggest challenge.
Who would you say is your biggest influence in becoming an artist?
My biggest influence in becoming an artist can definitely be summed up to two people/groups. First HyunA sunbaenim. I have been a fan of her since wayback, and she has always been someone I look up to as a role model. She such a dynamic performer and I love everything about her.
Secondly, the first group I ever fell in love with was SHINee sunbaenim. If it weren’t for them, I probably would not be where I am today. They were the first group I fell in love with.
How would you say growing up in America has influenced your music?
I think growing up in America, where it’s a melting pot of people and cultures, definitely influenced “Bomb” to be the melting pot that it is. It takes heavy influence from Brazilian funk and a few other music styles.
What was the biggest takeaway you had from Produce 48?
Be fearless. Don’t hold back. If you want to do something, push yourself to achieve it.
You participated in Produce 48, which was the first of the Produce series that welcomed trainees from both Korea and Japan. I also understand you learned some Japanese in college. Might there be plans for activities in Japan in the future?
Absolutely!! We fully intend to take AleXa global, in the future!!!
What was one of your favourite memories from Produce 48?
Definitely meeting the wonderful friends that I have now. I did not speak Korean too well at the time, so the friends that I have now were kind enough to speak to me in English. They helped me a lot along the way.
Who has been the most memorable artist you’ve had the opportunity to meet?
IN2IT sunbaenim!!! I am so fortunate to have met them this year, having gone on tour with them twice! They are truly such a talented group of boys, and I am excited to see what the future has for them! Please do support them, they are a great role models for me as an artist.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
My dream collaboration would be with one of three artists: Jessi, HyunA, ChungHa. Three powerful women.
Aside from the concept with “Bomb”, what further concepts would you hope to pursue in the future?
I, myself, absolutely love anything dark and macabre. Therefore, I would love to do something similar to Billie Eilish’s “bury a friend” or like VIXX sunbaenim’s “Voodoo Doll”. Spook me up.
How different was it filming for your debut MV “Bomb” versus “Strike It Up”?
“Strike It Up” language aside, is VERY different from “Bomb”. “S.I.U” is a song with a bright tone, while “Bomb” is a darker tone. Both are motivating and go-getting songs, but “Bomb” moreso than “S.I.U”, holds more power.
What’s a story you've always wanted to tell in an interview but never had the chance?
Seeing as it is almost Halloween time, I have a funny story for you. Well, maybe not so fun, but entertaining. When I was younger, I had gone to a Halloween event at our local aquarium. I was dressed as Venom and my younger brother was Spiderman. The costume was fully equipped with fake muscles and a mask. Upon looking at me, nobody assumed I was a girl. I distinctly remember getting bro-nods of approval from boys around my age. It was very entertaining to me, as a female.
What are your bigger goals now that you’ve debuted as AleXa, and what can we expect for the future?
I’d say my biggest goal right now is to garner 1 million views before the end of the year, and to successfully tour at least 10 cities by the end of next year.

MUN QUESTIONS. Q1 :   if  you  could  write  your  character  your  way  in  their  own  movie ,   what  would  it  be  called ,  what  style  would  it  be  filmed  in ,  and  what  would  it  be  about ? A1 : honestly??? i think i would keep it the way it is, BUT i would like to have seen some more canonical information about galo’s family. as of right now, we know that kray saved him after his family was attacked by the burnish. if i were to direct a new movie about galo, i would focus it mainly on his family. Q2 : what  would  their  soundtrack / score  sound  like ? A2 : i think it would be a mix of melancholic music as well as more upbeat stuff. on my blog’s main page there are links in the sidebar to both a soundtrack playlist as well as a pop music playlist; i definitely think it’s fair that a variety of genres would suit him and his experiences. Q3 : why  did  you  start  writing  this  character ? A3 : when i first watched promare, i was instantly drawn to this buffoon himbo. i’ve always had a thing for upbeat, energetic characters who are also quite caring and a bit dumb (which yes galo is very smart but he has his moments). while their personalities differ greatly (despite having the same personality type), he reminds me a lot of lance from vld, who i absolutely adore as well (and i also rp him too oops) Q4 : what  first  attracted  you  to  this  character ? A4 : again, probably his personality. while i’m not as energetic and upbeat as galo and i have a very, very different personality type than him, i feel like i definitely do understand him. i understand why he feels he needs to be overly confident, and i also have my moments where i just need to storm off and be alone. god i could write paragraphs and paragraphs about why i like galo but i wanna keep it short and sweet and just stick with those two points, which i consider to be the biggest points. Q5 : describe  the  biggest  thing  you  dislike  about  your  muse. A5 : look, i know i said i liked confidence, but something about galo that annoys me is the fact that he can often seem too confident. like yeah he seemed pretty humble in that pizza scene at the beginning of the movie, but i can’t help but feel a twinge of annoyance towards people who put themselves right into the center of attention and be all like “yeah i know i’m great.” like my boy i love you but do u have to announce urself every time u appear on the scene??? and pls stop being so reckless u honestly might die too soon one of these days we want u to be around for us to enjoy u Q6 : what  do  you  have  in  common  with  your  muse ? A6 : i definitely feel like we both have our moments where we just need some peace and quiet. of course, everyone needs this, but when galo talked about running off when he was pissed reminded me of me; i tend to go and cool off and vent to myself if i’m annoyed about something. we’re both naturally people-oriented and love to be around others, even though galo likes being the center of attention a little bit more than myself. Q7 : how  does  your  muse  feel  about  you ? A7 : in the sense that if galo were real, i honestly think we would get along fairly well. we have different ways of dealing with things, but we have similar habits and personality traits. however when it comes to rp blogs, while i do like to headcanon things about my muses that mirror my own opinions and beliefs, i do consider the mun/muse relationship fairly symbiotic. we as real people can learn so much from fictional characters and in how we play them, and of course, the mun will determine some things about the muse that will deter from canon. Q8 : what  characters  does  your  muse  have  interesting  interactions  with ? A8 : i just started this blog and have had very minimal interactions, so it’s hard to say ! i’d say that an interaction with a kray muse would be the most interesting. part of me wants galo to forgive kray and to have a better relationship with him post-movie canon, but there’s still so much about galo and kray’s relationship pre-movie as well; what was their relationship like? was kray like a father to galo? how can i describe the psychological mindset that galo had after finding out that kray betrayed him? there’s so much about these two that i really want to discover and look at, while of course providing my own insight (cuz that’s what muns do, right?). Q9 : what  gives  you  inspiration  to  write  your  muse ? A9 : i like to study galo’s actions in the movie, and try to find the underlying cause of the actions he takes. however, when it comes to headcanons, i will often think of a scene or an idea in my head and then internally apply it to galo and see if it works. this is usually what kindles my writing fire: the thoughts that often rush through my head. Q10 : how  long  did  this  take  you  to  complete ? A10 : like two whole days lmao im so slow

fmdmeme002 — compilation.
1. what is your goal for this year/next year?
it’s a fairly common question that yujin’s been getting a lot since 2020 started. her goal hasn’t changed much, and she’s pretty sure her korean fans are all aware of it at this point. “more korean promotions! as a group and not just me. we really appreciate all the love we get from all around the world, but i think some domestic promotions as a group would be nice. maybe also two comebacks in a year?” she eyes her manager who’s hovering over her and giggles in hopes to ease the tension, sending off the fan with a wave.
2. what song would you want to sing to or play for someone you like?
“do you like someone?” yujin’s teasing the fan in front of her because it’s one of their pre-debut fans, someone she’s seen around. “from the way the question is phrased, i’m guessing it’s someone you like but you aren’t really with. am i right?” the fan nods, and yujin can’t help but laugh. she finds the whole situation cute, and she’s happy her fan finds her comfortable enough to confide in her. “how about bolbbalgan4′s some? it can work as a sort of confession song!”
3. what’s your favorite scent?
”i’m a big fan of flowery scents! i think a lot of my perfumes are sort of rosy smelling. but you know what’s really nice? the smell of laundry that’s just been folded. or maybe that’s just the smell of detergent? i pick our detergent so that makes sense, right?”
4. if you spent one day with a fan, where would you go and what would you do?
”i have always wanted to go on an amusement park date with our fans! wouldn’t that be so much fun! i absolutely love roller coasters, and all the attractions that an amusement park has. the parades that they do for special occasions! even the expensive food! it would be absolutely marvelous, don’t you think so?”
5. what new concept do you want to try showing fans?
yujin liked to think that element was quite diverse with their concept despite popular belief. sure, some of their songs had similar vibes behind them, but they weren’t exactly the same concept. “as element? i think another suit and tie concept would be nice. we never got to perform don’t recall which i think was the closest we had to that concept so going back to that would be nice.”
6. which girl group do you like the most recently?
”everybody knows i love aria sunbae-nim a lot!” she clapped her hands together at the thought of her favorite seniors. “lost n found was so amazing and so was wag-zak! i had the best time performing mr. chu back at our gold star nation concert. i’ll practice a few of their songs again and try to upload them for our aether!”
7. which boy group do you like the most recently?
now here was the trick question. she had it a little easier than other girl groups because of her own male members. people didn’t seem to find her a threat for some reason. it was odd, but it meant that she could be more expressive with such questions. “it’s not because they’re from the same company, but origin sunbae-nim are all so talented, and they’re breaking records! i think that’s really admirable.”
8. what soloist do you like the most recently?
”our very own @fmdjoosung! nobody else competes with sung oppa,” she commented. when the fans gave her a few thumbs down, stating how that was a boring answer, she huffed and crossed her arms across her chest. “what do you mean boring? sung oppa is my favorite soloist and always will be. or at least until @fmdsohyun makes a solo debut.”
9. what song have you been listening to a lot that you would recommend to fans?
”it’s weird, but i’ve been listening to songs that i practiced as a trainee again! there’s so many, but for some reason i’ve had lipstick sunbae-nim’s heart attack stuck in my head! so that’s something i’ve been listening to a lot. you all probably know the song because it was so popular, but i recommend you go back and listen to it again! watch the music video too!”
10. what is your most used app?
she looks down at the sticky note, and its choices. it’s filled with the typical: instagram, kakaotalk, melon, twitter or other. yujin does update instagram a lot, but she’s not sure if it’s her most used application. she ignores the sticky note at first, making conversation with the fan instead, but when it’s time for her to move along, she finally makes her decision. there’s a circle around kakaotalk by the time she’s moved onto the next member.
11. what should someone do to win your heart?
”sing me a love song!” yujin laughs while leaning over to grab the fan’s hand. “i’m kidding. that’s a little cheesy, but i don’t think i’d mind it?” she sits on the question for a while. “just be truthful and express all your love! that’s more than enough for me!”
12. what do you want for your next birthday?
she knows that what she answers is most likely what she’ll be getting. however, she didn’t really want fans spending money on her for her birthday. “just lots of love! and hugs! and maybe some kisses from my members!” she laughs before waving off the fan and greeting the next one.
13. what do you consider to be your most charming feature/trait?
”don’t i have a pretty smile?” as if to prove her point, yujin puts on the biggest smile she can manage. it’s the first part of her face that she could think of that she doesn’t even consider personality traits. “i’ve also heard that i’m fun to be around. i think that counts as a trait?”
14. what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
yujin’s a simple girl. she pretty much likes any flavor and will take anything. “i like chocolate and vanilla swirled together! is there a name for that flavor?” her burrows come together in curiosity, but the fan doesn’t seem to know it either. “anyway, i think there might be, but yeah, that’s my favorite flavor!”
15. how should i ask out the person i like?
”just be straight up about it!” terrible advice, but there wasn’t all that much time. plus, it’s not like a high school student had any other options. “tell them you like them! ask them to a movie or maybe to a snack date. get ddeokbokki and maybe patbingsu even though it’s a little cold. that’s a cute date idea!”
16. what’s the secret behind your good looks?
the question immediately makes her laugh. it’s cheesy questions like these that make her ecstatic for fan signs. she wonders how fans come up with such questions. “love yourself!” she said also writing it down on the page that she was signing. “you know what they say? your inner beauty shines through all the time. so stay true to yourself.”
17. what do you think of fans of the same gender as you?
yujin adored all her fans. however, she thinks the female ones are a little more special. they seem to be more expressive with their love in ways that make her happy. male fans usually screamed to show their love, but female fans would send her long messages or letters. they’d make sure to ask about yujin’s well being first. “i adore them. they truly make me smile all the time.”
18. what is the most recent thing that made you happy?
she had just finished wrapping up filming for school 2017, and that was definitely a happy experience. but she thinks it sounds too personal. too non-element related. but it’s not like she had anything element-related to tell her fans. “we had really good chicago pizza when we went to chicago! it was delicious!”
19. what is your happiness level these days on a scale from 0 to 100?
yujin realizes that questions like this can be misinterpreted. she could give a high number, and they’d accuse her of being fake. if she gives a realistic number, then her fans would worry. so she scribbles down 99, and then writes a +1 whenever i see you! that seems like a cute enough answer that won’t worry anyone.
20. can you give some inspiring words for someone going through a hard time?
yujin wishes she could have the right words to say. she’s good at comforting people through physical touch: hugs, back rubs, things like that. but she never seems to have the right words to say. what would be inspiring for yujin when she was going through a hard time? looking down at the note, she writes down: always stay true to yourself. even if this doesn’t work out, at least you tried, and you fought. that’s what matters.
21. what words of advice would you give to someone studying for their college exam?
yujin never took the exam. she graduated high school, and then that afternoon she went straight back to practicing. she doesn’t even remember doing too well in school. it was good enough if she showed up. “just remember that you’re smarter than you think you are! you’re going to do great, and all your hard work is going to pay off. i believe in you.”
22. give yourself a percent ranking from 0 to 100 in the following categories: cute, cool, and sexy.
at first, she doesn’t see the note because she’s too busy talking to her fan. when her attention is brought to it, she tilts her head to the side. “i think i’m definitely a 100 in cool,” she jokes. she writes down 90 for cute, 60 for cool and then 80 for sexy. element’s concepts were always pretty strong and sexy, and she thinks she does her part pretty well.
23. what place do you want to travel to the most?
element’s been to a lot of places around the world already, and so yujin can’t seem to think of a place. “singapore? we’ve been there before, but we didn’t get to travel! i remember it being a beautiful country though, and i’d love to go back! you know, actually explore the place a little more.”
24. what language would you like to learn?
”i feel bad whenever changyu oppa has to translate for me so definitely english! but i’m already trying! it’s just hard.” she pouts because truthfully, she has stopped trying. learning languages was difficult, and she could speak a decent amount of japanese. that was easier to learn than english. it was the pronunciation that always got her fumbled up.
25. what is the first thing you think of when someone mentions your fans?
”how supportive they are! how much love they always send to us! how they’re always anticipating our new music. oh i could go on and on!” she truly could. yujin’s love for their fans was one of the most genuine feelings she ever felt.
26. what is your favorite movie/book you’ve seen/read recently?
yujin hadn’t read in forever. she’s picked up a few essay books, but she couldn’t find one interesting enough to finish. a lot of books were supposed to be about self loving or teaching yourself life lessons. she thought those were boring, and not something you could learn from a book. “to all the boys i’ve loved before! it was so cute and really cheesy, but still cute. it was a high school romance movie so it just had to be cheesy.”
27. what are your recent wishes?
she’s not sure how truthful she could be. her biggest wish is for all the individual recognition that she’s been getting to go onto element. she didn’t want to lose her group, but she feels like at this pace, group promotions may continue to be pushed back. that’s the last thing she needed. “for everybody to be healthy! and safe. and happy.” she states all while writing it down on the heart-shaped sticky note the fan has provided.
28. what are the requirements for your ideal type?
”it’s changyu oppa, of course!” it’s a running joke within the fandom. whenever someone asks for her ideal type, she’s answered her own group member. it was a safe answer, and everybody always took it as a joke, and yujin liked it that way. “don’t tell sung oppa though. he might sulk again!”
29. what job would you want if you weren’t an idol?
yujin’s one of those people who can’t imagine her life as a non-idol. this is what she was born to do. “i’m not sure. i think i could make a good kindergarten teacher though, what do you think?” the fan nods, and she thinks it’s a good answer for something that just popped into her head. “i can’t imagine myself as anyone other than element’s yujin though.”
30. what is a hobby you’d like to pick up?
“i think i’d like to try snowboarding! i’m so used to water sports, but i don’t think i’ve ever gone snowboarding before. it looks like a lot of fun! i think i’d fall on my butt a lot, but that’s all part of the learning process! maybe i’ll try it when we have some time off.”

I think the languages you want to learn are really interesting?! Maybe it just me, but I don’t know another language either and find learning any language a cool goal! Had a Swedish student teacher for one my history courses in college. And he would teach us random words after the days work and other things. It was a fun course to have, learning about Sweden and random bits of the language along the way.
i know french like... very semi fluently as i grew up in canada and it was mandatory at my school to learn it for at least 10 years but other than that... i know nothing. BUT i am really really interested in linguistics and language so i have this stupid large goal for my life to learn as many alphabets (at least) as possible. I find writing systems also very exciting and interesting so i would really like learn to just sound out things like russian, korean, japanese, thai etc.
but! germanic languages also really fascinate me! probably two of my favourite places i’ve visited in europe are sweden and holland so those two languages are high on my list as i really enjoyed just being in those countries!
i love when other people are willing to teach you little things about their language! i have a lot of chinese friends and during my brief spite-induced mandarin learning phase last year i had a few small little conversations back and forth either over text (with a lot of google translate crutches) or in person (with a lot of pausing for pronunciation and inflection schooling) and i always found it so so interesting! mandarin as a whole is really interesting to me for many reasons but one of the biggest ones is that the grammar actually aligns pretty well with english grammar! which is so crazy to me because theyre such different languages yet you can still find similarities!
IM So sorry this is so long i love talking about language ... i wish i had followed through with my french career so i could say i knew two languages but i . honestly dont find french that interesting as a whole for some reason. maybe its because i was forced to do it KNDSKGNJ anyways thank you for sending in this ask!!!

20010705 = 18 Listening Guide
A very curated 18 song playlist for Amos.
1 - It's a birthday playlist, so this is a fitting opener. The lyrics are really close to your sentiments about turning 18 as well lol.
2 - Anecdote: one time, we were playing a Lorde-off. You won that time because she still had, like, 15 songs, and I didn't know this one (it's a deluxe one, ok). Thus, it always reminds me of you and the last time you will ever know more about Lorde than me.
3 - This song is a bop. Also very cynical about the current world, yet slightly hoping for more goodness to sprout somewhere. Very much like you haha. It's also very techy, which is, like, 65% of your personality.
4 - Your natal chart ruler is Gemini Jupiter in the 7th, so a song about it. The lyrics are pretty dramatic and almost pretentious, but it's poetic, large in sound, and in conversation form. I think that's what Gemini Jupiter is all about. As for the 7th house, so many talented people made it so uhhhhh partnerships...?
5 - This is the anime reference song in the playlist lol. As you've said, anime is your personality trait, so I took one from a show you've never seen. It sounds like a quintessential Japanese anime opening. It could be from anywhere. But anyway, the guitar riffs will never fail anyone. Ever.
6 - Okay, don't overthink this one. I just had like a gut feeling you should listen to this. I know you're going thru a dry spell in your faith, and literally everyone is worried, even you. However, it's really natural, healthy even. Although Macklemore isn't really a way to resolve that, just wanna say that like his ode in this song, it's a work in process. When you think God is farthest from you, you have no clue how near He actually is. It will feel empty, hopeless, and dumb. It will feel inescapable. But keep talking to God. Keep asking. Keep fighting for your desire to understand. He listens more than most people give Him credit for, and He, like the good and gracious Creator that He is, will satisfy you in ways you could have never thought of.
7 - Because you listen to the most boring genre ever (charot lang), here is a lo-fi recommendation.
8 - Because we have similar tastes in musicals, this one is from Six, which is a R&B musical about the wives of Henry the VIII. This one is particulary bad-ass and a derivative of Satisfied. Broadway is really changing lmao.
9 - This song hits hard. I'm not sure if you like this genre but it's a feel-good, bounce song. I think everyone needs that in life. Also, listen to more Japanese rap. Ryohu is one of my favorites. Sadly, there are no English lyrics but it's okay, it's still a bop. (Let's just hope it doesn't mean anything bad).
10 - You should also listen to Korean rap (lol). Look up the lyrics to this song. Epik High is one of the most respectable Korean artists, and I can recommend the whole album this song is from. It deals with how difficult life can be because of our mentalities, but it's better and less lonely to know that many people also relate to the same burdens.
11 - Another musical recommendation, this time from Beetlejuice. We all need a good, old-fashioned conversatiom duet by two opposite characters. It reminds me of What is this Feeling from Wicked, and has the same emo, mental breakdown as Freeze Your Brain. The delivery is also funny. Classic Broadway.
12 - One of my absolute favorite Bleachers songs. This one is particularly uplifting. Kind of coming-of-age, too, which is a nice supplement to your turning 18.
13 - There should be an OPM recommendation here, so this sarcastic, self-aware, mellow, alt-rock Filipino song is quite suitable for you. I think it will resonate with anyone, at some point. I think your music taste is also lyrically driven, so this is an interesting listen. Also, the wa-wa board, the brass, and the bongos. Exquisite taste.
14 - Another mandatory lo-fi recommendation, but the soundscape is really fun so I kinda like it.
15 - This Kevin Abstract song reflects on the weight of overthinking (the world, relationships, everything), and how even despite of that, one still does know enough. Being 18 does nothing but confuse you even more. From your ate who has been there, don't bother trying so hard to get the answers and ends. They just come.
16 - And yet another mandatory lo-fi recommendation to break the drama.
17 - When you told me to watch Steven Universe two years ago and I finally did one night while I was new to sleeping in my dorm, I was comforted by that show in ways you can never imagine right now. I'm very grateful because you told me to do it. Hearing Love Like You again after a while floods me with melancholy and joy at the same time. It was time in my life where I was pushed to be an adult, but the show illustrated to me, in the best way possible, that I can do this without leaving any of myself behind. I made peace with the version of myself that I hated because of that. I think I will always attribute Steven Universe to you, so thank you for liking cartoons and sharing them with me. In fact, thank you that when you like something, you share it with me.
18 - This is the most perfect and probably the only way to end this being "of age" playlist. You reminded this to me a few weeks ago, so I'm telling it to you as well, from the wise words of someone who has matured but has and will never let go of our innate magic and light too often forgotten by the pace of this world: don't you ever grow up.
Happy birthday, Moting. I think we understand each other's music taste above surface level as a means of expression and connection. Thank you for being a kind and understanding brother who listens well to me, and who converses with me freely because it helps me grow as a person too. I took note when Taylor Swift said remember your little brother's favorite songs. I don't think these are but I hope you can learn to like them too. I am and will always be proud of you, even when there are times we argue (duh, because we're siblings), no matter what you decide to be as a person, I will always root for you and your fulfillment.
Again, happy birthday. I pray to God that He always keeps you by His side because then I am assured that even when we fail you, and even when you feel inadequate yourself, you are loved still, abundantly, unceasingly, and endlessly. I hope you enjoy your day and another year under God's grace!!! 18 ~ Let's get it ~ lmaoooo
