Something that I’ve noticed about the hype surrounding Hobie after ATSV is that no one seems to talk about how Hobie is punk in Britain; a place with a very active punk scene yes, but in the punk scene in the past, being any other race than white was considered “posing” (hence songs from black alternative artists like Young Gifted Black in Leather and I am a Poseur). And now in just a few years time that entire script has been flipped on it’s head, with Wendell and Wild and then with Hobie Brown.

He is not just a spiderman who happens to be punk! He is a black spiderman who embodies punk, he IS punk! He stands up to the system, watches out for his friends and does everything according to his own anarchistic ideal and he ROCKS! He crushes it!

So many people will have a first (or first deeper, extended) impression of punk culture through this movie, and they will see Hobie Fucking Brown be an amazing Spider-Man and be punk and he is just such a great representation of punk culture while also saying “fuck you this is dumb” while saving lives!

Idk where I am going with this but it made me very happy and Hobie is amazing!

So my feelings about the tumblr redesign are largely along the lines of "whatever," but the one thing I do find INCREDIBLY IRRITATING is the number that shows up in your tab title. You know, like "(12) Tumblr."

Historically, that's always been the number of new posts on your dashboard, should you choose to refresh. This was fine, though I wouldn't have been mad about that not being there. It now appears to be your ACTIVITY NUMBER. As in, your new notes or whatever.

This is the SO DEEPLY ANNOYING (apparently to me specifically, since I haven't seen anyone else mention this) that I can't even describe the depths of my ire.

I've yet to see a fix, either from xkit rewritten or anywhere else. Anyone else?

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? enough. stop with the shock value. there is no need to insert THE CREATURE; the benign concept of such a world is horrifying enough. not even in urgency, but just in banal, everyday interaction. imagine you meet someone and their timer says two years. not tomorrow, not urgently soon, but two years. enough to do quite a lot. they could fall in love in that time - could they get engaged? have a baby? you might otherwise get to know them, befriend them, but perhaps you opt not to, make a conscious choice not to invest in your own grief. what balancing act would every individual person have to participate in - I have ten years, is that long enough to be a good mother to children? is that long enough to secure a caretaker for my own mother? my wife will die a few months before me. my newborn’s timer reads nineteen years.

and cause of death. you interview for a job and emblazoned across the healthy, smiling face of the HR lady is MALNUTRITION. your country is prospering, safe, but every person you meet on the street from the babies to the old women read BOMB. BOMB. what kind of havoc would fate wreak on the world? what about the loss of privacy? how would that shape our notions of hope? idk man I think a lot of those ancient poems were right, and the fates are monsters. I’m interested by the framing of these ideas as trite horror tales when the premises themselves are so much more disturbing if simply taken to their logical ends

So apparently some people new to Tumblr think a repost and a reblog are the same thing, so when they see creators asking for people to not repost, they're thinking the creators are saying to not reblog 😭

Y'all, a repost is when you copy/download the work and create a new post using the work making it seem as if it's yours. A reblog is you using a site provided feature to share the creator's post directly from the creator so that it's still credited to them and they still get all of the traction/notes from the work.

Please, reblog fics/art/etc. that you enjoy! Reblogging is not reposting! Creatives need support too, and reblogging is a way to do that!
