Butch Fairy Zine: interest check!
This is an interest check! For a Butch fairy themed art zine to be held in 2024. Find the link here
This will be an art book that celebrates butch folk, and fairies, but through the lense of a field guide, with sketches and concepts alongside full colour illustrations. This project is currently being planned by 5 people, and a frog 🐸
This is not an Artist App form, but if you want to apply as an artist, you can still fill this in. We will make An Artist form later in January.

Butch Fairy zine: Mod application 🧚‍♂️
Next year I will be organizing a group art zine focused on butch and queer fairies, with the plan to open artist applications January 2024.
I have worked on many zines and anthologies, but I dont have much experience organizing one. So if you have experience making zines and working behind the scenes to bring zines and group projects to fruition, and you also like butch queer fairies, then this is for you!
I am currently looking to have 2 or 3 mods to help out, mainly with zine formatting, discord moderation, and schedule management.
link can be found here CLOSED

Hey! This is slightly random but I felt better sending an ask than a random message - I've been following your art for a little while now and I love it so much! I love your distinct style, your colour, your character shapes and the scenes you draw. I somehow only just realised that you're also working on the butch fairy zine! It's really cool getting to work alongside such cool artists, especially ones that I have loved for a while 💕🫶✨
OH!!! that's so sweeet and this response is so late, but man, is it appreciated and getting tucked into my heart!! And yes, I am and it's so fun!! Are you on it too?? Love to chat with you about it if so! I'm so excited for everyone to see my butch knight, I hope she lives up to everyones dreams...

Mouse Hunter
After a “Butch Fairies” zine’s shitty mods refused to provide basic accommodations for my friend @razzek, I decided to draw my own fukken butch fairy.
This is Rhoda! She’s a bi-species (goblin mom, fairy dad, still happily married) sapphic lady. She lives in the attic of an old church in Ireland with a colony of brownies, going down amongst the pews at night to hunt mice for their fur. She’s also a very good seamstress and leather worker, and she trades her much sought after cloaks, boots and other garments for anything she needs (though she makes sure no one goes without a warm coat in the frigid Irish winters).
Details:
Her spear is a bodkin carved from whalebone. She traveled all the way to the coast to a mermaid port to trade for the bone (offering in exchange to cull the dock rat population which had been terrorizing the local pixies) and then took it back home to her bone-carver friend, who shaped it.
Her top is made from grape leaves, which are durable even when soaked with sweat and chafe less than leathers.
Her boots are made from mouse leather, with buttons of carved bone.
The bandaid is a knee brace.
The pelt around her waist looks ragged because it’s her working jacket, which sees a lot of action. The clothes she makes to sell are much nicer.
Her wings are too small and delicate to allow her to fly, but she can make a loud buzzing sound with them, which she sometimes uses to scare off things too big or numerous for her to hunt.
She eats a lot of mouse meat obviously but her favorite food is her mom’s pillbug pie.

Working on a concept for a faerie house. It's been a while but I may have a few drawing of these faerie houses from 2014 on this blog. (I'll dig it up and reblog it if I can find it.)
I want to apply to the Butch Fairy Zine so bad, and I'm thinkin about a carpenter bee themed character.

Bit of a vent ...
I'm just ... so incredibly heartbroken that I fumbled my application to the Butch Fairy zine. I had everything filled out, but it was 4am and I always have a policy of "don't submit important documents until you've looked at them with fresh eyes".
The applications closed 5 hours after they opened them. I had no idea they'd close so fast, the mods set aside at least a week to keep them open.
I could have gotten in. I was awake. I had it ready to go I just had to press submit ...
I hope I'll feel better about it by the end of the week, but man I haven't stopped thinking about it for the past 3 days ...

Finally, an informational post on genderqueer identity!
(Image description: ten square images with blue, white, and lavender gradient backgrounds; every image has a border across the top and bottom with a thin black line framed by a black diamond on each side and every image also has black text.
1) Large centered text that reads "A Brief Introduction to Genderqueer History and Identity", below that is the instagram handle "@genderqueer.positivity"
2) "Genderqueer is a term that was created in the mid-1990's to cover a wide range of Queer experiences of gender, as well as marginalized gender identities and expressions. In its earliest usage, "gender queer" was a term for those who were Queer specifically because of gender, rather than sexuality."
3) "The earliest usage of "gender queer" comes from the April/May first edition of the zine GenderTrash From Hell, edited by Xanthra Phillippa Mackay." Below this is a quote from page 19 of the zine reading "gender queers & gender outlaws are what we & only we are, since lesbians & gays seem to think that queer means lesbian/gay (& sometimes bi) only".
4) "The terms "gender queer" and "gender trash" would appear in another set of zines two years later, the In Your Face newsletters published by Riki Anne Wilchins. It's unclear if Wilchins drew inspiration from the GenderTrash zines, or if she created these terms independently; however, she claims to have coined the term "genderqueer" and she is the one most commonly credited with creating and defining the term."
5) A quote that reads "I coined the term “genderqueer” back in the 1990s in an effort to glue together two nouns that seemed to me described an excluded and overlooked middle: those of us who were not only queer but were so because we were the kind of gender trash society couldn’t digest." Smaller text below attributes the quote to Riki Wilchins, from an advocate.com article titled "Get to Know the New Pronouns: They, Theirs, and Them"
6) A second quote that reads "It's about all of us who are genderqueer: diesel dykes and stone butches, leatherqueens and radical fairies, nelly fags, crossdressers, intersexed, transexuals, transvestites, transgendered, transgressively gendered, intersexed, and those of us whose gender expressions are so complex they haven't even been named yet." This quote is also attributed to Riki Wilchins and comes from the first edition of a gender activism newsletter called In Your Face, published in Spring 1995.
7) "Today, Genderqueer is both an umbrella term and a specific gender identity label. As an umbrella term, Genderqueer still covers a wide range of Queer experiences of gender. As the basis for a gender identity, Genderqueer can be used as a label by any person who feels that their gender is best described as Queer, or anyone who actively chooses to Queer their own gender identity and/or expression."
8) "Genderqueer is used by some individuals to describe having a gender identity outside of the male/female binary. However, it is also possible to have a binary or binary-aligned gender and be Genderqueer. Genderqueer can be used as a stand-alone label or as one of multiple gender-related labels used by an individual."
9) This slide has text along the bottom that says "This is the Genderqueer pride flag; this version was created by Marilyn Roxie in 2011." Above that is a square image of a Genderqueer pride flag on the left side; the flag has three stripes of the same width: a lavender stripe on top, a white stripe in the center, and a chartreuse green stripe on the bottom. To the right of the flag is text which describes what each color represents. Lavender represents "queerness and androgyny", white represents "gender neutrality and genderlessness", and green represents "genders unrelated to the binary".
10) The last slide has a stock photo in the top/center of the image; in the stock photo a person stands on a staircase with beige walls and a white ceiling in the background, holding a large genderqueer pride flag up to a natural light source which isn't visible in the picture, the person wears khaki pants, but otherwise can't be seen from behind the flag. Below the stock photo is text that reads "Genderqueerness is radically inclusive, deeply personal, fiercely political, and beautiful." After the sentence is the outline of a black heart emoji.)

Showing off stuff I bought!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ID and credit: four photos of my bedside closet (which was built by Riedel Dagmar, link goes to eBay Kleinanzeigen but because i couldn't link a profile, I linked a specific post so if it doesn't work sorry! They're not currently selling any self built furniture but I love this one so I thought I'd link it!). It is hung with fairy lights and dried plants and full of things.
The first close up shows an original by @suhaylah a pastel drawing of a tree near their house in orange and blue tones.
The second close up shows a bigger part of the closet, at the top a zine by @thequeenofbithynia is hung up in the colors pink and blue, showing different butch queer people, below it is a sticker of two slugs around a planet by my friend @the.human.slug (on Instagram) and at the bottom there's a bunch of magazines, two are by me, one is the poetry book Murdered Missing by Kim Shuck (link goes to her website) and the two others are Matrosengeschichten by Karl Heinrich Ulrichs which I bought from the Erlkönig Online Store, a queer German book shop! And the other is Wie ändert sich gender by dkkontrovers.
There's a little witch house by @hazblogs and a big stone from a store that was for testing out pencils but I asked if i could have it and i could! And a painted plastic skull and some Schleich figures.
The next close up shows a smaller part of the closet, with a big green illustration in the background of Jane Goodall by @magical-my-ass the frog sticker again by human slug and the figure in the foreground by my brother who doesn't have social media i can add. The other small stuff is by me except the frog figure which is Schleich again.
The next picture is my wall over my bed with fairy lights and prints by @suhaylah and then a close up of one of the prints. END ID]

fractured fairy tales // from Radical: A Lit Zine
The stories are fractures      I keep repeating
repeating stories I continue      to fracture
at the site of the trauma the fracture repeats
and again and again and again      yet not right
     I mean to say
I doubt myself      (I’m sorry)
//      In this story there are roses      in the city of
roses       I pick the pinkest roses       pink as the inside
of plastic teacups       I weave a garland of disbelief       to wind
around my throat       in this fractured fogdrenched
city       I thought you loved me (said she)      If you loved me you’d
//       In this story there’s an ogre an ex       lover
whose large hands wound around my throat       in disbelief
there on the fractured sidewalk among all the drunks       Later
they told me a story      their hands were not augurs of jealousy
but magpies to warn me of danger
// In this story there’s a t-shirt with words in red       this is how small
I was       and a princess with bitten fingernails       who can’t
sleep because of pills and says      I can’t believe
anyone ever did that       to you      can’t believe you were so
     small       I’m so sorry
// In the fracture now       long departed there
is a mattress and a bare swinging lightbulb      to wish upon       and once upon in this story there is an ax
I mean a hand that makes legs      split open easy       there is a sad-eyed boy who says slut       like it’s a magic spell
There is a bouquet of bruises so purple and black and
a different version to tell       your friends
// And in this story there is vodka and incense      and the girl says maybe
you’re not really queer       so my sobs turn to
fractured       hiccups and I show her
how queer
     I am I mean
become so butch I turn to stone
(I crack      I become a pigeon       I eat a rose and hop a train)
// And in this story       if you believe me there’s a motel       swimming
pool and a wish to be held       by water to not inhabit this
fractured body so I dive       down the dirty drain
Pete and Repeat are in a pool       Pete fills her lungs with chlorine
Who is left?
// In this fracture I repeat       half a year and half
a country later a motel       room and someone
saying if you don’t fuck me
     I’ll kill myself
(so just fucking kill yourself then       I say
     I’m so sorry)
// And in this epilogue a woodsman walks into a bar and I stare at the back
of his head      so hard I turn      telekinetic       an empty beer bottle
fractures into shards of glass that nearly       wound him      I’m not
           sorry
(and later still someone asks if he broke      my heart
When I tell them the true      story they say oh shit they say dude
                 I’m so
                       sorry)
// These stories keep      these fractures still
storying      at the site of the story I keep       repeating
I do not mean I do not really mean that
                 these stories are true
I mean to say I’m
                       sorry
