"You guys are dumb." Jin Ling sighs, rolls his eyes with all the tiredness of a 6 year old who believes himself a genius among his peers, in his dog onesie and all. "Babies come from the stork! Uncle Jiang said he saw the stork drop me at my parents house himself!"

"That's stupid! And what do you know, huh?" Lan Jingyi raises an eyebrow and takes advantage of a full 2 cm of extra height and 2 years of extra age. "I'm older than you, so I'm right!"

"How could you be right? You never had a baby before!" Jin Ling protests and glares a bit too much like uncle Jiang.

"Well!" Jingyi puffs out his chest, "I have good sources!"

"Who?! Your only friend is Sizhui!"

"Exactly! And Sizhui's dad, Hanguang-Jun, told him, and then he told me! So that means it must be true! Babies are put in bellies and they grow there and then they come out!"

Jin Ling still looks unconvinced. "Yeah, but who puts them there?"

Jingyi's resolve falters a little. "W-well, Sizhui said his dad told him it's something adults do... maybe they grow a special adult body part for it when they're older."

"And maybe that's true." Jin Ling admits, "i've seen ladies with big bellies and stuff. But how do the babies come out?"

"Surgery!" Jingyi shouts, proudly. "I know because when my aunt had my baby cousin, we went to the hospital and she said they cut her up!"

Jin Ling cringes at the idea. Jingyi continues, victorious. "See? I'm right!"

"I don't trust you. I'll ask teacher Wei later!"

Ouyang Zizhen passively listens to the conversation, making his two toy cars race one another. He smiles a little conspirationally, and his playmate, A-Qing, playfully hits his arm. Of course, they know how things work. A-Qing's adoptive dads are doctors after all.

(They do ask teacher Wei, who listens to their theories and shakes his head in disapproval. "You all are wrong. Babies come from the ground! You plant one and water it like a raddish and nine months later another one grows from the earth!"

Nobody believes him.)
