These are some of my favourite excerpts from the recent Alex Hirsch interview. They are…well…
“Whatever connection that Bill was able to create with Ford where he was able to ring him up at a moment’s notice - pop up in his dream, pop up in his thoughts, possess him, to take over his body to do work - whatever that connection was, was somehow severed or nullified by Ford’s falling into the Nightmare Realm and getting lost.”
…
“Ford disappearing for thirty years is like somebody saying they’re ghosting you and then texting you the next weekend.”
…
“‘Ford’s gonna be back. (…) Oh, we had such a big fight. Oh, Ford’s so mad at me, oohhh…’ (…) A will-they-won’t-they take over the universe relationship. He’s gonna-he’s gonna march off in a huff and he’ll be back, ‘cause we’re- is Ford gonna find anyone else in the Multiverse that strokes his ego as well as Bill does? Is there anybody else that’s gonna make Ford feel aa important as Bill- no, of course not. Ford needs validation, and so Bill knows Ford’s gonna be back eventually. (…) I don’t think that hunt was too aggressive, between Bill and Ford.”
Okay uhm - I need to say this because I am noticing this a bit in the responses to Somerton's "Apology" video.
Do people really think, just because ableism in the workplace is forbidden, that workplaces don't discriminate?
Even if insurance stuff covers your health issues, I won't put it past an employer to let you go with the made up argument it doesn't. Because non-epileptic people are generally very uncomfortable with seeing seizure activity and some of them will prioritize their comfort over sticking to anti-discrimination laws.
I think Somerton's video is full of BS, but I am even more uncomfortable with how happy people are to dismiss Somerton's medical history/symptoms, just so they can argue against him. As if people with disabilities can be absolved for being dicks by accepting their stated medical and discrimination history.
When you don't even have to do so to point out the harm Somerton's logic does?
I mean - I think it's warranted to question James' statements because of his complicated relationship with telling the truth, but I am just kind of bothered by how people argue "this could not have happened because laws/policies"
No. Let it have happened. It makes his apology worse if you choose to believe him on this, trust me.
If our response to disabled people acting terrible (stealing other people's material and presenting it as your own), is to accuse said disabled people of lying about their symptoms and diagnosis, I think we are missing the point and problem.
This is likely the hardest I've laughed in rain world yet. Basically, you can glitch a spear into a quantum state using a dead bat body, allowing stabbed enemies to follow you through tunnels. So I tried bringing a leviathan to Moon. And the game really, really didn't like that
have you perhaps a list of readings you would recommend to understand better disco elysium/sacred and terrible air? i wouldn't know where to start and your posts are interesting so worth trying to ask :)
aw thank you! Well, I feel like I’m not really that well-read, and the order I read philosophy/history/etc is all over the place lol
If I had to recommend some reading, there is this essay about the pale, that I think is essential to understanding Elysium. :
as for books, I would say Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher could be a good starting point. And I think it would be worth to read something about these topics:
neoliberalism, capitalism
communism - marxism, history of socialist countries
russian nihilism
christianity - dispensationalism
The devs have said that they were influenced by Hegel, Marx, Slavoj Žižek, Lenin, & they also said they used to be anarchists so I would say reading some anarchist text could be interesting too if you want to really dive into it (idk, Emma Goldmann for example)
You can find a lot of these writings on these websites:
Has anyone listened to this french podcast Esteban was on a number of months ago? I don't speak French so I had to get by using the auto-translate (while slowing down the video a bit) and the google translate app transcribe function. I think the translation was fairly understandable. Anyway, here are some parts I found interesting:
Esteban mentioned that included in his contract was that the team (Alpine) must not have a number 1 driver and that he doesn't want one side to be favoured over the other. He wants to have the same "weapons" to fight with his teammate.
His dad was a French Junior Cycling Champion when he was younger but was unable to progress further due to the lack of resources and lack of contacts. So his dad made a promise with himself that if he will have a child in a similar situation, he will do the maximum in order for their dream to happen. That's why he and his mum were so willing to sacrifice everything for him.
They were able to get Nico Rosberg to ask a question to Esteban. He, in true form, asked about teammate rivalry 😆 Esteban mentioned that Nico gave him a lot of support and advice when he arrived in Formula 1 in 2016.
His Dad also asked a question, "What was your best memory from the karting years?". "I remember we were parked on this mountain at the Monaco Karting Grand Prix in 2010. I will always remember waking up in the caravan every morning, opening the door and seeing the sea right in front." He would see other drivers going to the hotel while they stayed behind since they lived in a caravan. The hotel was more comfortable but because they slept on/near the track, it was to their advantage that they were able to work longer in the evenings making them more prepared for the race.
Besides these everything else discussed were already mentioned in his other interviews.
if any fellow r&g are dead fans have links to recordings of productions of the show that are good/fun/interesting, would you consider perhaps sending them my way? pretty please?
