# I won't let go, I won’t let go
Past and present.
At the intersection of the two.
There is a path that cannot be avoided.
Page 1
                                       FLASHBACK BEGINS
Natsu [memories]: I don’t remember when it started to feel uncomfortable.
Natsu [memories]: Even now, I don’t know.
Natsu [memories]: For me, my father was just someone who came home once or twice a month with presents.
Natsu [memories]: My mother would say.
Natsu’s mom: You see, Natsu. Dad travels all over Japan because of his work. He is very busy, so he can’t live with us.
Natsu [memories]: Things like that
Side text: How will Natu’s relationship with Uzuki affect Chika---…?
Page 2
Natsu[memories]: My father was usually kind, and I wasn’t particularly unhappy when I found out my family was different from others.
Natsu[memories]: Is just-- whenever my father came to my house, the strange atmosphere between him and my mother was uncomfortable. And I always hated it.
Natsu[memories]: I wanted to know why, so one day in the fourth grade, I followed my father just that one time.
Natsu[thoughts]: This is a very luxurious residential area, compared to our apartment complex, is like a different world. Why would he…?
Sfx: Opens door
Page 3
Natsu’s dad: I’m home.
Woman (Uzuki’s mom): Oh, darling! Welcome home.
Natsu: …
Uzuki: --Eeeh…. Could you possibly be Natsu-kun?
Page 4
Natsu: Eh? Why do you know my name?
Natsu[thoughts]: Who…?
Uzuki: As I thought!
Uzuki: I’m so happy. I always thought it would be nice if we ever met.
Sfx: Smile
Uzuki: Nice to meet you. I’m Uzuki Sei. Your big brother… I guess you could say.
Page 5
Natsu[memories]: That is how I met Sei.
Natsu[memories]: Sei already knew a lot of things, and he told me everything he knew.
Uzuki: It's not Natsu's mom’s fault, she didn’t know what was going on. It’s just that dad's sloppy.
Uzuki: He wants to be a good man, so he acts like a good father for us in both families.
Natsu[thoughts]: Acting….
Natsu[thoughts]: Ah, that’s it
Page 6
Natsu[thoughts]: That strange atmosphere… So that's what the uncomfortable feeling was all about.
Uzuki: But Natsu-kun, you look so calm. I thought you would be more shocked.
Natsu: Eh? Aah.
Natsu: No, I mean, a lot of things make sense now, thank you.
Uzuki: Fu … We are definitely siblings.
Natsu: Eh….
Uzuki: Hey! Give me your contact information, so we can talk like this sometime.
Uzuki: You're the only one I can talk to about this. Let’s keep it a secret from dad and the others, okay?
Page 7
Natsu: …
Natsu[memories]: After that, Sei and I started to see each other once in a while to catch up and share information.
Natsu[memories]: Sei was always calm and smart. He could never see his true intentions. There was an aura around him I could never grasp (understand)
Natsu[memories]: And he talked about his family in depth.
Natsu[memories]: The distance between us was just right for me, taking a step back, not interfering with each other's personal lives.
Page 8
Natsu[memories]: And with everything going on underneath, the family game that was being played out in front of me was ridiculous to the point of disgusting.
Uzuki: Sometimes I just want to destroy everything, you know?
Natsu: Hee—Even Sei has those kinds of thoughts.
Uzuki. I do. I'm not going to do it because it would be a pain in the ass later.
Uzuki: When you're inside a lie all the time, there comes a point where you don’t know who you are yourself.
Natsu: Hu—m.
Natsu: I’ve never thought of something like “myself”. Why not just go with the flow?
Uzuki: That’s so Natsu.
Page 9
Natsu[memories]: Later, when I entered middle school, my mother told me that she and my father had separated.
Natsu’s mom: I am sorry, Natsu.
Natsu [thoughts]: To be honest, I was relieved.
Natsu´s mom: But the fact that he is your father does not change. You can still see each other as always.
Natsu: Yes, thank you.
Natsu[thoughts]: So that’s the next step… (Referring to the path she is gonna take regarding their relationship)
Natsu[memories]: On the other hand, there was a change in Sei around that time.
Natsu: Sei, what’s with the clothes?
Uzuki: E …are they weird?...
Page 10
Natsu: Well, is not that is weird. But why the change? A new hobby?
Uzuki: Hmmm, more than a hobby, I guess it’s my friend’s influence.
Natsu: ...It’s the first time I hear you saying a word like "friend".
Uzuki: It’s actually a guy who came save me when I was being harassed some time ago. I have been wanting to get along with him, so I am very happy
Natsu: Hee—
Natsu[memories]: –and that person
Natsu[memories]: was Kudou-senpai.
Natsu[thoughts]: That’s the guy with all those bad rumors... is that guy okay? (referring to Uzuki)
Page 11
Uzuki: Chika is not very good with words, and he is very easily misunderstood. But in truth, he is incredibly kind.
Natsu[memories]: since then, whenever we met, Sei always talked about Kudo-senpai.
Natsu[memories]: All the stories I heard from Sei about Kudo-senpai were far from what was rumored, and my impression of him began to change.
Natsu[memories]: Then that incident happened.
Page 12
Natsu: --are you ok? At our school, everyone's talking about Kudo-senpai's incident.
Uzuki: I am ok.
Natsu: Well... I would in shock if someone I was close with did something like that, but...
Uzuki: Chika didn't do it.
Natsu: Eh?
Uzuki: Chika would never do something like that. He was set up.
Uzuki: Poor Chika... I have to by his side. (He needs me beside him)
Page 13
Natsu[memories]: After that day, I never heard from Sei again.
Natsu[memories]:  And now, over a year later.
                                   END OF FLASHBACK
Uzuki[flashback]: Won't you help me make up with him?
Tetsuki[flashback]:  The one who framed Chika was Uzuki. He confessed.
Natsu[thoughts]: Haa- I don't get it... I don't know what’s going on.
Natsu[thoughts]: But...
Page 14
Natsu[thoughts]: I wouldn’t say he'd never do something like that.
Tetsuki[flashback]: Uzuki paid some people to do it.
Natsu[thoughts]: Rather, it’s oddly fitting.
                                    FLASHBACK BEGINS
Tetsuki: At any rate, I know what's going on now. I'm sorry for forcing you to speak and listen to something you don't want to talk about.
Natsu: No…
Tetsuki: ...And Chika won’t hear anything from me, however—
Tetsuki: Now that Uzuki and Abiko have made their move, I'm afraid it's only a matter of time before they find out about you, anyways.
Tetsuki: You might want to talk to Chika before things get too complicated (there’s a misunderstanding).
Page 15
Natsu: ...Are you talking about…. me being the little brother of the guy responsible for the attack to his Gramps house and framed Senpai?
Tetsuki: …
Tetsuki: Chika said that he likes your sound.
Tetsuki: If anything happens, I will follow up with you.
Tetsuki: You decide what you want to do.
                                        FLASHBACK ENDS
Page 16
Natsu [thoughts]: Ah, this again
Kota[flashback]: Things about yourself, you should decide them by yourself.
Natsu [thoughts]: Looking back, that's when I started going crazy. I'm not cut out for this.
Natsu [thoughts]: I've never needed to think about something like "myself" or anything like that. If I didn’t fit, I just planned to leave if it became too troublesome.
Natsu [thoughts]: Aah shit. What a pain. What is this. What. I don't want to think about anything. What a pain.
Natsu[thoughts]: I just want to throw it all away-
Atsumu: --kun!
Page 17
Atsumu: Momoya-kun!!
Natsu: …Yoshinaga...
Atsumu: What a relief! You finally noticed me—
Natsu: …Sorry. What is it?
Atsumu: What do you mean what? Classes are over! Let's go to the club!
Page 18
Natsu: Aah-- sorry. Today is a little
Atsumu: Eh?
Atsumu: Today is one of the days you go to club, isn't It?
Natsu: Yes, but...
Atsumu: Could it be that you are feeling unwell?
Natsu: No...
Atsumu…Did something happen…?
Natsu: No, nothing really. Is just that I'm not in the mood to go to the club.
Atsumu: eh?
Atsumu: Wai- Momoya-kun!
Natsu: Tell the senpais I'm taking today off.
Atsumu: Hey, what happened?
Page 19
Atsumu: As I thought, something happened, right?
Atsumu: H- hey, if you are ok with me I will Listen to whatever you have to say
Natsu: No, I'm telling you it's really nothing
Atsumu: Uh, I- I not be the most reliable but If I can lend you my strength then-
Natsu: SHUT UP ALREADY!!!
Oka: Mo... moya...?
Atsumu: ...
Atsumu: Mo- Momoya-ku...
Sfx: slap

Atsumu: I know that!

Atsumu: But--- But I

Satowa[thoughts]: Not only Kudou, Momoya-kun is unusually out of sorts too. What's going on?
Takezou[thoughts]: Kudou-kun and Momoya... the two guys who have always been most stable...
Takezou[thoughts]: I don't like what has been happening since this morning, it's making me nervous.
Page 27
Takezou[thoughts]: What in the world happened...?
Kota: Agh--- The 4 man part didn't sound in harmony at all today
Sane: It had been sounding so good lately.
Sane: Maybe it’s because we are tired of studying for tests, aren't you?
Kota: That's it!
Kota: Those damn tests—
Kota: Well then. Momoyan, see you tomorr-
Natsu: E- Excuse me
Page 28
Natsu: Kudo-senpai, do you have a moment?

Chika: ?
Page 32
Uzuki: Chika—
Page 34
Uzuki: I wanted to see you, Chika (I missed you, Chika).
Side text: The possessive urge because of love, the destructive urge because of the inability to possess... There are no lies in Uzuki’s words.

SINoALICE x NieR Replicant - Weapon Stories
A complete compilation of all weapon stories from SINoALICE’s NieR Replicant collab... well, the ones that has lore to do with NieR anyways.
Whatever grammar mistakes/translation errors belongs to Pokelabo, and you will tell there are some. Most are stories are pretty self-explanatory tho.
Grimoire Weiss
We fought for what seemed like ages. To kill those things that took a twisted human form. To protect those precious to me, with my own hands. We were deceived for so long. Deceived by people in a land we've never been, whose faces we've never seen Issuing orders from a safe distance. We must have been in love. And despite the fact I couldn't save you, but I never got to thank you for saving me. These fragments glimmering deep in my depths... they seem to be the vague memories of people... the faded remnants of human wisdom... H-hold on! I’ll have you know my name is not “Booky Wooky!” You may call me "Grimoire Weiss" I am a great compendium of ancient wisdom. Treat me with respect!
Grimoire Noir
My name is the Black Book. Are you the king who will lead the world to salvation? Don't be so surprised, Your Majesty. For me, it is a simple matter to speak human words. I sympathize with your distress, Your Majesty. On this occasion, however, we have no choice but to let them deal with your sister. When sorrow overtakes you, you may come to me and speak of your tribulations. Reading is an admirable pursuit. Your Majesty--for me?? I shall peruse this volume if it comes on your recommendation... What is that? You think it odd for a book to read a book? Noir? I would prefer to dispense with this nickname. My name, Your Majesty, is the Black Book. I am a grand tome of human wisdom... thus, to refer to me by such a curious moniker is, dare I say, inappropriate.
Kaine’s Sword
She was slender, with smooth, white skin. The hint of a dark shadow in her expression highlighted her beautiful features. But something about the sword in her hand didn't seem to fit the picture. Anger, sorrow, hatred. When emotions overwhelmed her, she would swing the sword, so there was never a lack of blood to quench its thirst. The problem was that she couldn't put the sword down. A heart and body in constant conflict. No one in the world could understand her. And loneliness was eating her alive. The long war came to an end, and darkness devoured her. But her heart remained at peace. Because she faced fate in the arms of the one she loved.
Halua Head
File_25_10: Update Soon twins will be arriving. There is nothing at all in the white-walled, prison-like room except for a white bed. If only there were something to do in there... File_25_12: Update I went to look in on them, and the girl was kindly encouraging her anxious younger brother. The two of them had heavy expectations to fulfill. The weight of all humanity's hope bore down upon them. File_26_06: Update The day of the experiment, the girl passed me a letter. To the very end, she wanted someone to watch over her brother. Once I agreed, she quickly ran away. Report: Human Weapon Development Things seem to be progressing as expected with Experimental Subject A (Sister), but her condition has changed drastically. In her present state, she seems to have no sense of self. I am urgently beginning work on Experimental Subject B (Brother).
Devola & Popola’s Staff
---------------------------- Dear Popola, Thanks for that soup recipe! My mom loved it!  ---------------------------- A note received from a child in the village. Does this mean they are developing a sense of self? ---------------------------- Dear Popola, Thanks to the medicine you gave me, I'm feeling a lot better, though I can't leave home yet. Just sending a note to say thanks. ---------------------------- According to our records, humans wrote their feelings down on pieces of paper, and sent them to others. Where did they learn to do such a thing? ---------------------------- Dear Popola, I like you a lot. Will you be my girlfriend? Waiting to hear back. ---------------------------- I simply cannot understand the things they have written on these scraps of paper. I feel an unfamiliar feeling, my heart saying “no”… ---------------------------- Dear Popola, Sorry I couldn't tell you in person, but I'm coming home late tonight. Go ahead and sleep if you're tired. ---------------------------- Ah, Devola. No need to worry about me this way. Tee-hee.
Favorite Pot
Yonah, I learned a special recipe! When you eat it, all your injuries will be gone! Oh! I want everyone to feed it to those they care about!
The ingredients are deer meat, sea turtle eggs, fresh veggies and herbs from the garden, and lastly tons of scorpion claws! Next, fill a pot up with all your ingredients, place the top on, and let it simmer overnight! The white steam rising from it is just so mesmerizing. ...Oh! I think it's ready! Smell for a soft scent when you take the lid off. That means it's done! I can't wait to give it to grandpa.
Transience
"Rule 0: You have the right to disband a rule by vote." I am the king's aide and second-in-command. Until now, all rules have be absolute, however, a "Voting Rite" was held where citizens could vote to change rules. Now, let's see what sort of ballots were made...
"Rule 451: Consuming alcohol is forbidden during the daytime." And stated as the reason is: because I like drinking... Because it's anonymous, all these votes are based off selfish desires. We need to improve the system somehow that reflects public opinion.
"Rule 356: Royal inquiries are limited once per day." And stated as the reason is: because I long to be with the King more...? Could this Fyra's vote...? No. Of course not. She's not the type to be interested in love. Moving on...
"Rule 68: The King's aides are to forever serve at his side" Reason being: Thank you for all your hard work. You deserve a break once in awhile... Could this be from the King himself? I'm honored to have stood by your side all these years. And the citizens of this country are proud of your work. There's no doubt of it.
Note: After rigorous deliberation, "Rule 451: Consuming alcohol is forbidden during the daytime", the most voted for rule, was repealed.
Grimoire Weiss ver.1.224
My name is Grimoire Weiss. I am an ancient tome of profound wisdom. After awakening from my long slumber, I traveled the world with my most beloved friends. She was a woman lacking respect for her elders. She'd continuously talk down to me, calling me nothing but paper and even set me aflame. However... Her rash words were also the driving force that moved us all. He was a compassionate and gentle boy who loved his friends. His manor of dress was odd, but his kind words warmed everyone's hearts. This I know to be true. I wonder if he, too had felt any relief from his sins. He was a cheeky guy, but not one you could just leave behind. We've been through a number of rough times together. I'd tell ya about it, but... I'm running out of time. If... If only I had an arm... Then I could have...hugged...him...
Grimoire Rubrum
It's the silk of fate. Knowing you, I shall begin living a life of truth. It's the forbidden fruit. Protecting you, I shall sink into wisdom's abyss. Those are the flames of anxiety. Thinking of you, I shall endure eternity's darkness. That is a reunion of bitter tears. Who are they? Why is it not me who's besides you?
Kaine’s Dual Blades ver.1.224
I craved it. Blind violence and blood-thirsty carnage. And I found it. I finally found it. A vessel stained with anger and hatred, seeking vengeance for the murder of her parents. I possessed that woman and gave her "power." That power turned the woman into a beast. One swing of her blade was enough to cut through stone and her grazes healed in an instant. She began downing every foe before her in the name of vengeance. I was delighted to witness the fruition of my desires. The woman's destruction didn't end there. After having her revenge, she continued to exert her "power" for the sake of her friends. Along her journey, her anger and hatred showed signs of waning, however, I gave it no thought. All I desired was to continue bathing in her bloodshed. Because her body has reached its limit, her power has lost control. Still, in the midst of the clashing of blades, I could feel her desire to protect her friends. Yes, this is the violence and carnage I crave. But why is it deplorable and empty?
Devola & Popola’s Spear
Upon hearing an old lady from the village caught a cold, I immediately collected my medicinal herbs with some boiled water, and rushed out from the library. I nursed her and remained by her side until her symptoms calmed down. She was extremely grateful for it.
I read a picture book to a group of children from the village. It was of an old tale about a brave, courageous man who triumphs over evil. I watched their expressions alternated between joy to sorrow to the story's pacing. I'm glad they enjoyed it.
Devola and I performed a song for the people at the village tavern. In addition to the regulars who drank there, elders and children were part of the audience. At the end of our song, the entire crowd smiled and cheered.
Every day Devola and I have been staying late at the library thinking of a plan to make life easier for the villagers. They're indispensable "vessels" for the project, so we need to do what we can for them.
Letter to the Postman
I was in a dimly lit cabin when I met a kind man. He taught me how to write a letter. What should I write on a blank piece of paper...? ―――――――――――――――――――――――――――― ――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
Apparently, a letter should start off with the name of the person you want to give it to. Of course, I'd want it to be his. I hope he'll be able to read my sloppy handwriting... ―――――――――――――――――――――――――――― Hans ――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
At the end of the letter should be the name of the person who wrote it. Of course, that would be the name he gave me. Is it odd my chest feels warm writing it...? ―――――――――――――――――――――――――――― Hans Luiz ――――――――――――――――――――――――――――
And in-between these two names, I'm supposed to write how I feel. And tell him what I want the most. I wonder if he'll be happy to receive this...?
―――――――――――――――――――――――――――― Hans, Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you. Luiz ――――――――――――――――――――――――――――

"Hey Soon Bok." I call out to her after spotting her walking the hallways.
She doesn't respond but her groaning and mumbling echo off the walls.
I quickly catch up to her and get her attention. "Hey, what's got you groaning?" I ask and she finally notices my presence.
"Oh, hey, (y/n). Uhm, the guest in room 385 left the room in a complete disarray so it'll take a few days to get it back in shape." Soon Bok says as we walk through the hall together.
"How badly did they screw it up?" I ask, trying to imagine what kind of damage would take a few days to fix, especially in this hotel.
"Well..." Soon Bok sighs, "Apparently their two of their past lives were complete opposites on the political spectrum and it got out of hand." She waves her hands for emphasis, "I think they broke every single piece of furniture we had in that room."
I run my hands through my hair in absolute annoyance, "How many days do you think it'll take?" I ask.
Soon Bok tilts her head to the side in thought, "I really don't know. 6, maybe 7 days."
"Damn, and the Gods can't do anything to help?" I probe, wondering if I'm going to have to send a message up myself.
Soon Bok shakes her head with disappointment. "No, I already asked."
"Damn." I exhale, "Did the guest leave?"
"I put them on the first departure out of here." Soon Bok says smugly, "Deserved it when I saw their room yesterday."
I nudge her shoulder with my own and smile satisfied, "Perfectly deserved."
"And not to mention that they were so loud!" Soon Bok continues to vent, "So loud. I had guests complaining about them for days."
I put a sort of comforting hand on her shoulder, "You handled them well." I tell her.
"The Gods don't pay me enough for this shit." Soon Bok says with sarcasm as we walk out onto the second floor balcony.
"They don't pay any of you enough." I reassure her with a tiny smile as guests mill around us.
Soon Bok lets out a short laugh before going back into manager mode.
"(y/n)!" Jiwoo comes running into the lobby from the pool in a panic. "(y/n)!"
I share a look with Soon Bok for a split second before we start down the stairs.
"I'm right here." I call out to Jiwoo who jogs up the stairs to meet me.
"There's sort of an issue." Jiwoo mutters lowly.
"What kind of issue?" I press further without lowering my voice.
He motions towards the indoor pool, "A couple guests are fighting at the pool. It's getting out of hand."
Soon Bok nervously chuckles, "How bad could it ge-"
A faint splash and a few screams interrupt Soon Book mid sentence. The sound freezes me in my tracks for a split second before I walk towards the indoor pool as annoyed anger grows with every step I take. Soon Bok and Jiwoo are right on my heels.
When we bust through the pool doors, a few guests are standing around the edges of the pool looking mortified at the two guests brawling in the water.
I stop a few feet into the room and cross my arms over my chest while staring at the two females fighting and splashing water everywhere.
"How did it start?" I ask, leaning towards Jiwoo so he can hear me.
Jiwoo shrugs, "I honestly don't know how it started. All I know is that they were arguing over something and then they started shoving and pushing each other. And that's when I came to get you." Jiwoo explains, "I didn't want to experience another incident." He continues and I nod, remembering a few years ago when Jiwoo tried to get between two quarreling guests and took a substantial blow to the chest. From which he could've died had I not been ten steps away.
"Good idea." Soon Bok comments her approval and I'm surprised that she could hear him through all the noise and the echoes.
I take a breath and send a loud whistle to cut through the noise. The noises settle down and all the attention turns to me.
"Why are you creating a racket in my hotel?" I direct the question at the two soaking wet women in the pool.
The two women stare blankly at me but neither says a word or moves a muscle.
I roll my eyes at the lack of response and heavily sigh. "Fine, if you don't want to answer me, then I'll give you a choice, either get out of the pool and forget whatever you were fighting about or stay in the pool and be on the very next departure out." I give each of the women one last look before turning and walking out of the pool.
"Keep an eye on them," I instruct Jiwoo, "If they don't leave the pool in 15 minutes, call Shin and tell him to get them out of here."
Jiwoo nods obediently and stays in the pool while Soon Bok continues to follow me.
With the situation resolved, I can finally return to the subject that I wanted to talk about.
"Did you get Jun situated in his room?" I ask her as we walk.
Soon Bok nods, "He's in room 106 for 15 days." She informs me.
I nod and change direction towards the elevators. The elevator doors open and we step inside. Just as the doors begin to close, Jiwoo comes running and Soon Bok, with her fast reflexes, holds open the elevator doors.
"They left." He skids to a halt before the elevator.
"Good. Good." I nod in approval.
"I will make sure they don't do anything else during their stay." Jiwoo informs me and Soon Bok steps back to let the elevator door shut.
"And if they do, call Shin." I tell him.
Just as the elevator doors completely shut closed, a man walks behind Jiwoo and glances my way. For a split second our eyes meet and I see a smile grow on his face.
Jun's face.
~The Fifteenth Day~
"You've gotten sloppy, Jun!" Michelle, Jun's sparring partner, laughs and it pulls a laugh from Jun.
"Maybe you're the one who's gotten sloppy." He counters with a smile.
I shift on the bleachers to try and find a more comfortable way to sit but the benches are unyielding. The training center for national athletes is pumping the A.C. and I wrap my sweater closer around my shoulders, eyes still trained on Jun and Michelle.
The clock on the wall displays the time and I only have a few more minutes until Jun is released from training and mine for the rest of the night.
Jun defeats Michelle with ease and pulls away happily cheering.
I smile at his energy and he spins around in victory. When he stops, he spots me in the stands and waves extremely wildly.
Waving back, a giggle erupts in my throat. Jun jumps a couple more times before saying bye to Michelle and jogging into the locker room.
Not five minutes later, a sweaty Jun jogs over to me after changing out of his training clothes.
"Hiya." He smiles happily, readjusting his bag on his shoulder.
"Heya." I reply, mirroring the smile.
"What did you think of my training?" Jun asks, offering a hand to help me up.
I take his hand. "You were getting a little sloppy towards the end." I smirk and we start toward the exit.
"So you're siding with Michelle now?" Jun questions, playing the offended card.
"Us girls can see things." I wiggle my fingers at him just as Michelle passes us.
"Like you slacking." She comments to Jun and gives me a high five.
Jun's shoulders sag in defeat, "I go through hours of training only to be judged by my girl and my training buddy."
"Enjoy your night!" Michelle calls out to us and jogs to the person waiting at the curb for her. Presumably the fling she's currently into.
"You too, Michelle!" Jun waves her away, almost relieved that we're finally alone together.
Jun grabs my hand as we walk away from the center and towards the town where Jun's apartment is.
The scene meshes into another. This time we're sitting in his apartment, on his couch, with dinner plates sitting empty in front of us on the coffee table. The TV plays some random show we're binging and Jun's arm is wrapped securely around my shoulder.
I start to feel his warmth around me and he starts humming along to the theme song when a sinking feeling suddenly sets in my chest. I know what I'm going to find on my desk when I return to the hotel tonight, but my heart is determined to hold off as long as I can.
Snuggling in closer to Jun, I feel him chuckle.
"Cuddly much?" He asks.
I slowly nod, "Just don't want this night to end just yet." I mumble, breathing in his scent.
"You can stay here all night if you want." Jun says into my hair but I sigh.
"I'm needed at home tonight." I tell him with a pout.
"I know, but the offer is still there." Jun says with a soft smile.
"Jun," I get his attention, "Can I ask you a hypothetical?"
"Okay?" Jun agrees only a little confused.
I rest my ear against his chest and listen to his heart beat, "If I died,"
Jun sucks in a breath, stopping me.
"Hypothetical, remember." I remind him and rest a hand on his stomach to stop him, "If I died young, would you find someone else?"
"Do you want me to?" Jun questions.
"I mean, I wouldn't want you to spend the rest of your life grieving for me." I explain, "I would want you to move on but still remember me."
"Then I would do just that." Jun affirms with a nod, "I would probably grieve for a while... A long while." He corrects himself, "But I think I would. I would think that you would want me to live my life to the fullest and enjoy every aspect, including love."
I nod, satisfied with his answer, "That's exactly what I would want you to do."
"What would you do?" He asks in return.
"The same." I answer, knowing my answer holds no weight to him, "I would grieve and then slowly start to live life again but I would remember you throughout my life."
Jun smiles, satisfied and kind of smug. "I'll be hard to forget." He squeezes my shoulder, playfully.
I smile and rub my hand in a circle over his stomach.
But the fabric doesn't feel the same. It feels more... soft... more like... bedding.
I blink open my eyes and find my hand resting on the pillow I have held up against my body.
Rolling onto my back, I sigh heavily and close my eyes but the memory of Jun's warmth around me still remains.
"Can't a memory just be a memory?" I ask the air around me, not expecting an answer. "Why do I have to feel every lingering sense?"
I pull up the covers and cocoon under them for comfort. And just as I'm getting comfortable and warm again, I hear the faint opening and closing of my office doors. I run my hands over my face before turning my head to read the time.
8:33 pm.
I shoot up in bed as Mun Hee calls out for me. My pajama shirt falling down my shoulder.
"(y/n)?" He calls out and I rub my eyes.
"In here!" I yell back, hoping he hears me, and fix my shirt.
I throw the covers off of me and swing my legs over the side of the bed. Then my bedroom door opens and Mun Hee walks in with his eyes squeezed shut,
I take one look at his face before asking, "Why are your eyes closed?"
"I don't want to see anything I'm not supposed to when in your room." Mun Hee states with a hand still on the door.
I chuckle at his consideration, "You're all good. I'm clothed and nothing is laying out in the open."
Mun Hee slowly opens one eye to check the area and when it passes his inspection, he fully opens both eyes.
"Uh, the hotel is in full swing." Mun Hee comments while eyeing me still sitting on my bed.
I nod, "I know. I slept late."
"Are you okay?" He asks with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm fine." I tell him, "Just been dreaming."
"Dreaming about?" Mun Hee presses and I stand from my bed.
"None of your business, dear." I smirk at him and head for my closet.
Mun Hee shrugs, "Okay well, Yong told me to come up here and wake you up and tell you that she's bringing Jun down in like an hour and a half."
I flip through my hanging clothes and a small bubble of panic bursts in my chest. "Fuck, okay." I quickly pick out navy slacks and a white blouse and hang them on the closet door.
"I'll leave you be then, now that you're awake." Mun Hee says and backs out of my room, closing the door behind him.
With Mun Hee gone, I head to my bathroom to shower for the day.
Once I'm showered, dried, clothed, and put make up on, I stand in front of the mirror for a final outfit check. Smoothing out my pants, I mentally give myself the pass and walk out of my room and down into my office.
"What are you still doing here?" I am shocked to find Mun Hee sitting on the sofa playing on his phone.
Mun Hee shrugs, not looking up from his phone, "Had nothing else to do."
"You're supposed to be at the front desk." I say, crossing my arms over my chest.
"I was..." Mun Hee trails off and taps his screen quickly, "But then Yong came and told me to come get you cause she was going to bring Jun down. I got here and you were still upstairs so I figured I'd wait for you."
"How long ago was that?" I ask, walking up to him upset that he didn't come get me sooner.
"Uh... 15 minutes ago?" Mun Hee says, looking up at the ceiling, calculating.
"Fif- Mun Hee!" I yell at him and head straight for the doors. I stop with my hands on the handles and turn back towards him. "And you," I point a finger at him and he looks up at me, "Get your butt back down to the front desk before I send you out on the next departure." I threaten before leaving my office and heading straight to my garden.
"So, you bloomed for the others and me?" Jun asks the chrysanthemum(s) as he crouches down.
I stop behind the bench and lean on my hands, just watching him. Jun tenses as he feels my presence in the room.
"You would've made a scary ninja with that silence." Jun chuckles and turns on his heels to face me.
I smirk, "Think I would've looked good in the black clothing?" I ask and Jun tilts his head to the side. His eyes scan my body up and down.
"Maybe." Jun shrugs and stands to his feet, walking towards me.
"Maybe?" I ask, holding my hands over my heart, feigning hurt.
"I'm kidding," Jun giggles and leans in closer, "You would look fantastic in black. I would love to see you in that."
"Keep dreaming." I whisper and move to sit on the bench.
Jun dramatically plops down onto the couch then lays his body down with his head in my lap, looking up at me.
"My biggest dream just came true though." He says with innocence.
"And what is that?" I ask.
Jun smiles, "To see you again."
"Me." I repeat his answer and look sadly at the tree. I feel Jun's eyes study my face but I can't bear to look at him.
"That hypothetical wasn't a hypothetical." Jun says with a sigh.
I open my mouth to explain but nothing comes out so I close it again.
"I mean I know you didn't leave on your own. But did you have to leave right after you asked that?" Jun continues to question, "Did you know you were going to leave?" His stare burns into my face and I'm forced to look down at him. Only I kind of regret it.
The sadness that fills his eyes rips at my heart and the tiny sliver of hope that my answer will be the answer he wants to hear sits right in the middle of the sadness. But I have to be the one to destroy that hope he has.
I set my jaw firm and take a deep breath. "I had a feeling I was going to have to leave soon after that."
"How did you know?" He asks. I can see he's trying not to let his sadness take over.
"Something in my gut told me that the Gods were going to make me leave soon after that night." I explain, "I just didn't know I was going to receive that note that night."
Jun sits up properly and puckers his lips, "Oh." He says, "You could feel stuff like that?"
I shrug, "Sometimes. But that night I definitely felt something. And when I got back here, there was a note on my desk and I wished I could've spent more time with you."
"Me too." Jun agrees and wraps his arms around me, hugging me close. "Though, I can't believe you kept this amazing place a secret."
"I couldn't tell you. I couldn't tell anyone." I tell him, leaning in closer. Just like the night before I left.
"You can't tell anyone?" Jun asks, emphasizing 'any.'
I nod, "Absolutely no one." I confirm, "The human world just isn't ready to know of this world yet."
"Hmm. That's probably for the better." Jun agrees. "I kept my promise, by the way."
"Which one?" I tilt my head in confusion.
"How I would try to live my life after you 'died.'" He uses his fingers as air quotes when he says 'died.'
I smile with happiness, "What did you do then?" I wonder.
Jun inhales proudly, "I went on to win three national titles and then retired."
"You," I ask shocked, "You retired?"
"Hey, it took me 8 years to win those three titles." Jun defends himself, "But yeah, I retired. Well, sort of retired. I started coaching with the team and that lasted a solid 30 years or so and then I went into real retirement."
"I'm sure you were a big hit with the athletes." I think about Jun coaching younger athletes and encouraging them to do their best.
He catches the faint smile on my face and chuckles. "I don't know about that." He reminisces, "I was pretty hard on them."
I look at him with wonder, "I doubt you were that bad. You're Jun. You did what you did so they could grow and be amazing athletes."
"You think?" Jun asks.
"I know." I smirk, "They appreciated every single thing you did for them."
"How do you know what I did?" Jun giggles and I widen my eyes in innocence.
"I just do." I stick my tongue out at him but he's quick to wipe it away with a kiss. I hum happily, "So, did you ever have kids? A family?"
"A family?" Jun repeats my question, "Well, uh, yeah. I did have a family."
My eyes light up but a dull pain throbs in my chest. "Tell me about them." I smile in hopes the job in covering up the pain in my chest.
Jun exhales, "What do you want to know?" He asks.
I shrug, not really sure what exactly I want to know. "Anything. Everything... Well, maybe not everything." I correct myself with a small cringe.
"Alright," Jun tilts his head in thought, "For starters, I had a girl and boy. Jihyo and Scott. Jihyo was older than Scott by a few years. But damn, he protected her like he was older." Jun chuckles and I echo it, "You know, there was this once - was? Is? Happened?" Jun mumbles in confusion at his own story.
"Spit it out." I laugh and playfully hit his chest.
So," Jun says while laughing a bit, "I was well into my coaching career and Jihyo was a solid high schooler and I somehow happened to be the matchmaker for my daughter and my future son-in-law." He runs a hand through his hair, "I had this athlete, bright, great kid, though a little loud at times."
"Like someone I know." I mumble but Jun hears me and smacks my arm.
"Anyway. We had a small end of year party at our house one year - which by the way, was not my idea." Jun raised his eyebrows for emphasis, "And of course, my kids were there, milling around with the team. The usual. Well, the spunky kid runs into Jihyo, and I mean literally runs into her, and before I knew it, they were dating. Boy, did I give him a hard time when I found that out. But then I blinked and they were engaged! And then I literally breathed, and they were married with a kid." He shakes his head in disbelief.
"So she grew up good?" I reiterate.
Jun nods, "Grew into such a beautiful woman. Reminded me a lot of you."
"How so?" I wonder and look over to find his eyes soft like a plush pillow.
"She held her head up high, even if the world was pushing against her. Like you did." Jun explains, "Jihyo was always very cool, calm, and collected with the outside world but whenever she was around the family or her husband, she melted like snow in the desert."
"I did not melt like snow." I defend myself.
"Oh, yes you did." Jun squeezes me closer. "Like the first time you came to see me at the training center. You were so cold and shut out to literally all of my teammates." Jun laughs, "And then as soon," He drags out the word, "As I walked up, you smiled and literally gave my teammates whiplash."
I laugh at his recount of the day.
"I swear the guys wouldn't shut up about it for a whole week." Jun says, then continues on, "And Jihyo, Jihyo came to really enjoy champagne."
My mouth drops open in happiness though I'm not 100% sure as to why I'm so happy to hear that.
"Yeah, she came to visit one day and we had some wine with dinner. Which got us on the topic of alcohol and then poof! Out of nowhere, she says she really enjoys champagne." He smiles wildly, "I nearly dropped my wine glass when she said that."
"Did she end up loving it as much as I do?" I ask with high hopes.
Jun snorts loudly, "HA! I don't think anyone loved or loves champagne as much as you do, my dear."
I hum in satisfaction, "What about your son, Scott?" I ask, wanting to know more. "Was he an athlete like you?"
"Scott," Jun whispers his name, "In high school, Scott swam and was pretty good. He was on varsity and went to university on a sports scholarship. Super smart kid too. He definitely didn't need the scholarship to get into school but it did help with our finances."
"I'm sure it did." I comment. "What did he go to school for?"
"He got a degree in teaching." Jun informs me, "He tried the high school age, ended up hating it then moved up to the college level. And that, that stuck."
"Oh, what about Jihyo?" I wonder, remember I never asked, "What did she major in?"
"She went to medical school and became a nurse." He says, "Made one hell of a nurse too. God, I'm proud of my kids."
"You should be." I encourage him, "It sounds like you raised them well."
"Well, I sure hope I did!" Jun laughs, "They took all my hard earned money. And then when mine ran out, they took my wife's."
I giggle and bury my head in his chest. His laugh vibrates through against my skin and his heartbeat echos through my ears.
"I'm gonna rewind a tiny bit." I tell him, "I wanna know more about you athlete days. What you did, where you went. All of it."
Jun smiles while exhaling, "Alright, so we're going back to my amazing bachelor days." He dramatically states and I roll my eyes. Cause he definitely has a big head about his days as a national athlete.
As the sun rises, introducing a new day for the human world, Jun and I are deep in the world of his life and the adventures he took. The different places he traveled with the team. The things he learned while training and competing. The trouble he and some of his teammates caused during the competitions. Oh and all the girls that, supposedly, were all over him whenever he was in public.
Like always, Jun keeps the mood light and fun. Even through the sadder stories, he still manages to keep me out of the deepest parts. Always protecting me. Always keeping me afloat.
By the time the sun is setting, we've started talking about my life and my time at the hotel. A lot of the stories, I am telling for the first time. Mainly because I've never had someone to tell them too. Everyone I would tell the stories to had already experienced them first hand. And with each stories, I manage to make Jun bark out laughing a few times.
When our laughter has died down, the sun lays dangerously low in the sky. Barely a sliver still visible above the horizon. And it's the signal that our time together is ending.
Tumblr media
"Hey," Jun says, noticing the disappearing sun, "Do you have one of those time machine thing? Something that can turn back time?" He asks with full curiosity.
"You know something like that doesn't exist." I tell him with sass.
Jun shrugs, "Just wishing." Then he rises to his feet, his shoulders set in resolve. "Let's do this."
"You know I'm not coming with you, right?" I ask cautiously, standing up in front of him.
"I know." Jun sighs, "But you still can walk me to where I need to be, right?"
"Of course I can do that." I smile.
He holds out a hand for me to take, "Then let's go."
I chuckle and grab his hand. He happily grips my hand tightly and swing it between us as we walk out of the garden.
"Why don't you decorate the place more?" Jun asks, looking around the lobby as we enter.
"Is it not decorated enough?" I question, taking in the elaborate designs that adorn the walls and the floors.
"It could use a few posters of me." He says smugly and points to the elevators, "When I was still an athlete, I had posters of me plastered everywhere, including on elevator doors."
"When you accomplish something incredible in this world, I will do that." I say with a raised eyebrow as we pass the elevators, on our way to the departure door.
"I did accomplish something." Jun banters back.
"And what was that?" I ask when we reach the door.
He leans in close and whispers, "I loved you." Before opening the door and walking ahead.
His words stun me but only for a second. Once the second and the shock have passed, I quickly make my way after Jun and catch up with him after some strides.
"That was a feat 12 other men accomplished as well." I remind him and loop my arm around his.
Jun chortles, "But I know that I was a special one."
"You were indeed special, Jun." I reassure him.
As we approach Shin and the car, Jun giggles and Shin has to fight back a smile. We stop a few feet away and Jun turns to face me.
He releases a large breath and holds my gaze. "Why am I more anxious about this moment than any other competition I've ever been in?" He asks quietly so only I can hear.
I wrap my arms tightly around him and stay silent.
"What?" Jun looks down at me, "No smart ass answer? No silly comeback?"
I sigh, "No because I don't have an answer." I tell him honestly.
"You don't have to have the answer but an answer would be nice." Jun says softly.
Pulling away, I force a smile as tears line my eyes, "You don't have to be anxious." I tell him in a weaker voice than I would've liked. "You'll be at peace."
"But you won't be there." Jun pouts.
"Someday soon I will be." I say and a tear slips out. Jun is quick to catch it and wipe it away.
"Then I'll wait. I'll sit and wait until you do." Jun says determined. "I will climb a tree and be on the look out for you every single day."
I choke out a laugh and it brings a smile to his face. He leans down and presses a light kiss to my lips.
"I'll see you over there." Jun whispers before letting me go and walking to the awaiting car.
When he reaches the car, he turns around and dramatically waves his arms while saying, "I love you, (y/n)!" In the loudest voice ever. I'm pretty sure everyone in the hotel can hear him.
"I love you, Jun." I call back through the tears slipping down my cheeks.
With one last triumphant smile, he ducks into the car. Shin closes the door behind him and the car rolls forward, taking Jun to peace. The car disappears into the fog and when the last glow of the taillights disappears, a white chrysanthemum at the base of the tree in the garden withers away.
I rest a hand over my heart and remember the echos of our laughter. I hold onto that laughter as I make my way back into the hotel. I hold onto it and wait for next love to arrive.
Return to the Navigation Page (Waning Crescent Hotel) to choose the next guest.
Tumblr media
"I can't wait to keep you laughing for all of eternity." Jun says with a mischievous smile. He stands up and drags me up with him.
"Who says I'll be laughing?" I quip.
"Me." Jun says knowingly, "Cause I can always make you laugh." His hands tickle my sides and I runaway, laughing.
Halfway out of the hallway, I stop.
"Hey, hey." I get his attention and he stops, standing to full height so I'm slightly craning my neck, "I have to say good bye to my employees."
"They still have to stay?" Jun wonders.
"Somebody's gotta keep this hotel running." I tell him with a light smile, "And I need to release Jiwoo so he can live his life."
Jun nods and grips my hand firmly before continuing on our way. We walk hand in hand to the lobby where Yong, Mun Hee, Soon Bok, and Jiwoo stand solemnly.
"So this is it?" Mun Hee asks with tears in his eyes. "This is the day you leave us?"
I wrap him up in a hug, only a tiny bit annoyed that he's being so sappy. "Maybe I'll get punished again and be back here by the end of the year." I try to joke but Mun Hee abruptly pushes back from me.
"Don't you dare say that. You better not return here." He says angrily through his tears.
I chuckle, "I won't come back. I promise."
Turning to Soon Bok, I thank her for her service and her amazing work. Something I never did and should've done more.
Next onto Jiwoo. I also thank him for his and his entire family's service then I unclip the bracelet that has held him to this place.
"When you leave today, you won't be able to find this place again." I inform him, "I hope that you'll be able to go and live your life happily."
Jiwoo nods, "Thank you for letting me work with you. I won't ever forget you."
I smile sadly, "You will. But thank you."
Finally I reach Yong who is sniffling and trying so very hard not cry.
"You'd think after all these years of waiting that I'd be prepared for this day." She says through sniffles.
"Thank you, Yong." I rests my hands on her shoulders, "For everything. Thank you."
With lips pursed together, she leans forward and wraps me in an unexpected hug. But I soon wrap my arms around her and squeeze her tightly.
We pull apart after a couple seconds and I wipe the few tears that have escaped from her eyes.
"Keep this hotel running beautifully." I tell her before Jun grabs my hand again.
With final waves of goodbye, Jun and I walk out to the foggy forest that will take us to our resting place.
At the edge of the forest, Shin stands next to an idling car, a somber look on his face.
"(y/n)." He says when we reach him, "It has been an honor working with you. I wish you both a peaceful rest." Shin bows his head and I pat his arm.
"The honor was mine." I tell him with a smile. Now the tears start to line my eyes as the realization fully sets in.
I'm free. I served my years of punishment and now I'm free to let my soul rest.
I turn back towards the hotel and look up to the top where the rooftop patio is outlined with bright string lights. Then to the mid floors where random room lights are turned on, some guests staying in while others opting to experience the hotel's many services. Then to grand base where guests would be milling around, waiting their turns to leave this world.
"(y/n)?" Jun softly asks pulling my attention to where he sits just inside the car, "Are you ready?"
I take one last quick look at the hotel before turning away from it. "Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go."
I lower myself into the car and Shin securely closes the door after I am completely inside. As the car begins to drive forward, Jun securely grabs my hand and I let his warmth guide me towards our final destination.
In the garden, the final chrysanthemum withers and dies so that no more stand at the base of the bare tree.

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi Volume 6 Chapter 6 - An Uncle and Pampas Grass and Moon Viewing Sake
T/N: Hi y’all, I’m back with chapter 6, how are you doing? I thought tumblr didn’t want me to post, kept getting error logs but here we are now. I got a bit unwell so I didn’t get to post this as soon as I wanted to, but I hope you still like it somehow.
As always, if you like this translation, you can heart it, share the link, reblog, I just respectfully ask that DO NOT REPOST ELSEWHERE. This is my contribution to the scant English content of this fandom, and I worked really hard to finish this thing, it’s not like I just copy-pasted everything. I even had to build the kanji in Jisho one by one. Try it and you’ll see what I mean.
You can rave about this, rant about this, reply, etc. but if possible please link back to this page. If you’re unsure how to do that, just copy the web address of this page. If you’re on a blogsite just insert the web address as a hyperlink as a link back to here. Honestly if this light novel was officially-published in English, I wouldn’t even be doing this right now... And if it did, I’d take this offline to support the publishers and Yuuma-sensei. Creators support creators, is what I believe in. I’ll prolly do 1-5 once 6-10 has been done, or however long I can manage to translate the raw texts, it can take a toll at times.  As previously-mentioned in earlier chapters, if you stumbled upon this one, the two seasons of the anime covered volumes 1-5, so other than the extra details, you didn’t miss much stuff. OK, here we go, this chapter’s a racket lol
P186 Kasuga's resignation from Tenjin-ya has been announced. Aside from that, the guests were also a bit dreary that day. Many people came to ask if there's any beef stew or hamburger steak but there's none left already, and there were still a lot of the chestnut okowa** for the Autumn set meals... "It took a lot of pains to steam these in a bamboo steamer, the sweet and piping chestnut okowa though..." It's a waste, what will I do? I wonder if everyone from Tenjin-ya's going to come and eat... "Kasuga... would she be coming? There's so many terrible stuff tonight, she's probably not going here." I remembered Kasuga again, and I got even more gloomy. Today's no good. She's probably thinking about a lot of things due to her leaving. It can't be helped but be sad. As more time passes by, my heart feels more depressed and more bemoaning. When I came to Kakuriyo, Kasuga played a lot of tricks on me and some of the other Ayakashi that I got involved with. Then after that, when she came to my place a lot, she eventually became a very dear friend. T/N: okowa=steamed sticky rice with stuff like beans, nuts, etc. replaces plain white rice in some meals. P187 I wonder what I could do for Kasuga when she leaves...
When I went outside the shop curtain to wear my geta sandals, the lovely waxing gibbous moon floating in the sky lept out in front of my eyes. "Wahhhh" The moon is almost at its fullest. The autumn air that goes with it, it's heartrending. When I walked underneath the rustling willow tree, it was already twilight in the quiet inner garden. "Is there something wrong, Aoi Ojou-san?" In that moment, a young man was leaning over the wooden bridge and chewing on a blade of grass. Having a slender body, with his brown hair covering his eyes, and what seems to be a charming smile showing on his face... It was the Gesokubanchou, Chiaki-san. "Chiaki-san... This is unusual. For what reasons have you come here?" "Oh, Aoi-san, I have a little favor, to ask of you." "A favor?" It was different from Chiaki-san's usual sloppy presence, somehow his manner was solemn as he came here. He was Kasuga's uncle. Could he be talking about something regarding Kasuga? P188 "Errrr... Can Aoi-san expertly stir fry these?" "Say what? What are these.. Ah, ginko nuts!" Chiaki-san nodded eagerly and handed me a thin, drawstring bag that looked like it was filled to the brim, these were ginko nuts." "Today, Odanna-sama and Byakuya-sama, also Dr. Saraku who rarely leaves the underground facility, the three of them went to the mountain behind Tenjin-ya to watch the moon while drinking sake**. This time around, Tenjin-ya was troubled with the Bunmon Tanuki situation, so I decided to pick up some ginko nuts in the inner garden to stir-fry them and bring them to you, but I'm not good at stir-frying." "Oh, I get it now. It's OK, Yugao's already closed and we can go inside. Speaking of Odanna-sama, they went moon-viewing? Because it's nearly the full moon?" "Ayakashi like to drink sake while moon-viewing. Aside from that, those were the three seniors of Tenjin-ya. They probably had something important that they needed to talk about this time." "...oh, I see." If it wasn't the marriage of an employee, then it's likely something else. Likewise, the Northern Land's Hachiyo has been replaced, and Kasuga is going to get married to him, and this brings yet another huge issue and problems in the entirety of Kakuriyo. Previously, Odanna-sama announced his engagement to me while in Youto, and that caused a huge commotion. We entered Yugao, and sitting in his favorite seat, Chiaki-san immediately propped his chin with his hands on the counter.
T/N: Yep, it’s a thing, people drinking rice wine while moon-staring. When spring has the cherry-blossom viewing thing, autumn has moon-viewing activities. They say that when the moon reflects on your sake cup, spirits come out. Well, whatever lol I rather moon-stare sober P189 With that mannerism, somehow he resembles Kasuga during the day. But looking at them in their appearances, they don't look alike. Kasuga is springy and bouncy, and this guy is reasonably quick-paced. "Oh, Chiaki-san, are you hungry?" "Me? I'm good, I've finally had a meal." "You always have your dinner late, don't you?" "Oh, right. Gesokuban have so many minute and detailed jobs, and I also have to take care of the ogre kiddies. I have to put them to bed, and have dinner after that... Ah! Could it be, that you made something for me?!" He was already in a Japanese restaurant, and based on his reactions he only remembered about that now. Even though he explicitly came bringing some ginko nuts, with regards to me he's rather the uninformed type. "Hee hee. I only have chestnut okowa left, it that OK for you to eat? I still haven't had dinner yet." "Did you say... Chestnut okowa?!" Somewhat, Chiaki-san was taken aback. With such a strong reaction, I got anxious. "Is it likely, that you're not fond of chestnuts?" "No! It's not that, it's just that Tanuki love chestnuts and persimmons!" "Really? Thank goodness-- But that's the first time I heard it. That Tanuki love chestnuts" P190 "Yes. There's a huge chestnut tree in Bunmon's University Library, when autumn comes everyone goes out and gathers them." "Ehh?" A library that has a chestnut tree. That's somehow cool. "What side dishes would you like? There's some saury, how about salted and grilled saury? There's also miso soup, try it out, it's a reddish miso soup, it's a suitable accompaniment to the chestnut okowa." "What is that, isn't that the best autumn menu?" Hearing what the menu was, his empty stomach was remembered and it growled. While rubbing the back of his head, Chiaki-san's eagerness shone across his face. "That was embarassing. I uhm, haven't eaten anything since lunch." "Is that so? When Kasuga says that she's hungry, you should have come with her, it's OK." "It's fine, Odanna-sama and I had to go back and talk about other things too. In addition to that, it was necessary for Kasuga that time, to be with Aoi-san who is her friend. Since yesterday, we have been completely surrounded by esteemed Ayakashi." "..." While Chiaki-san wore a strained smile, he secretly let out a sigh. I didn't fail to see that, so I turned on the fire on the grill, and started preparing the salting and grilling of the saury. P191 And then, Chiaki-san weirdly seemed to become fidgety, and suddenly he stood up and took a broom in his hand, and started sweeping inside Yugao. "What are you doing, Chiaki-san?" "Oh, it's nothing, if I don't move I couldn't calm down. You seem to be in the middle of cleaning and tidying up Yugao, is it fine if I sweep here?" "Uhm, thank you, I'm grateful for that..." He might be a manager, but by nature he is humble and feels much obliged. "Ah--  It's Tanu-tanu-shaaan's voice-" For some reason, Chibi who was sleeping in the back room woke up, and that time when he heard Chiaki-san's voice he went out. He held the acorn he picked up during the day on his flank, and with a heave-ho climbed up Chiaki-san's counter seat. "Heyyy isn't that Chibi? Have you slept? Your beak is smeared all over." After saying that, Chiaki-san wiped Chibi's beak with his hand. Apart from being humble and obliging, he also gives off the vibe that he's used to taking care of children... "I'm a baby Kappaaaa. Baby Kappa are the cutesssht newbornssssh in the worrrrld." I have been taking care of him, but for some reason Chibi has returned to being a baby and shows how he's suckling on his thumb zealously. "So to speak, you know of Chibi, Chiaki-san?" P192 "Yes, I do, we went picking up some ginko nuts during the day." "Yesh we diiid. When I wasssh about to get eaten by Shoft-shelled turtle-shan in the garden'sss shmall pond, Tanu-tanu-shaaan saved mee. And for that, this Kappa returnsssh the favor." Chibi went "I presshent you my gift", and he brought out the acorn that he was holding on his flank for Chiaki-san. Even though he seemed to have no need for the acorn, Chiaki-san replied with a smile, "Thank you, Chibi", as Chibi acted morosely. Chibi...Isn't he spoiled by Tenjin-ya's male army? Now then, back to Chiaki-san's saury. To this extent, for anybody with a high-class taste there's probably no other food that is more famous than this one during autumn. Long and thin, rounded and fatty, the luster of the fresh saury, it has been caught off the coast of the Eastern Lands. I salted both sides of the fish. This removes the fishy stench, and improves the elasticity of the flesh. I lightly rinsed this in running water, and again lightly sprinkled salt over the dazzling flesh again, before cutting this into smaller pieces. After that I turned on the charcoal grill and slowly grilled this, steadily holding it over the fire. "Chiaki-san, is Kasuga's uncle, aren't you?" "Yes. Kasuga's father and mother in Youto have been estranged for a long time, I have practically took measures to look after her." "Really? You have been her father's replacement?" "Ahaha. Saying that I'm her father is too much. Well, I'm like a big brother who's older by some years, it's something to that extent. I think it's sensible that way. Kasuga P193 is the youngest daughter, and compared to her other siblings she hates studying... she's a naughty and troublesome child." While Chiaki-san was suppressing a laugh as he recalled some memories, he was sipping some warm sencha tea that I poured for him. That atmosphere, it was a bit different from the light impression that I have of Chiaki-san, he was somehow polished and elegant. "Ah... The fragrance of the grilled saury is good, right?" "Tee hee. When this saury is grilled at just the right amount of time, the skin and the fat just makes it more mouth-watering for anybody and you can't get enough of it's scent." While the saury was being grilled and the appetizing smell was wafting out, I placed the hot and piping chestnut okowa in a rice bowl, and checked out the taste of the reddish miso soup I was using. In a small bowl, I added vinegared miso with squid and scallion. I placed all of these in a four-legged tray, and when the saury was about to be grilled enough I grated daikon over a long and narrow plate, and beside this I placed the grilled fish. Wah, the fat is dripping, and the skin has been grilled to become crunchy, this saury is both delicious and really smells great. It's filled with all the tastes of autumn, and I served this like it was made at home. "Alright! This is Yugao's 'Nothing but Autumn' set meal. These directly echoes the tastes of a hungry stomach during autumn. Ah, kabosu, kabosu!** I'll cut half of a kabosu and if you squeeze that all over, the citrusy fragrance makes it even more appetizing." I sliced a kabosu in half and plopped it beside the saury. "Ahaha. How you smiled, that meant that it's really delicious." Chiaki-san put his hands together and said "let's eat", and as expected took a mouthful of the chestnut okowa. T/N: kabosu=香母酢=some type of citrus fruit, well to be honest anything citrusy goes well with fried or grilled fish, or just fish in general. gwah P194 Rounded and scattered, there's so much of the lovely yellow chestnuts. The steamed sticky rice I used for the okowa, it mildly envelops the chestnuts with sweetness, tenderly and endearingly, it was enjoyably warm and fluffly, and the springy texture have its finishing touches. "These rounded chestnuts, they're surely delicious. Chestnuts in plain rice** is good,  and so is chestnut okowa." "Try eating that with the saury. It's also the best." That being said, Chiaki-san squeezed the kabosu juice over the saury's crunchy skin, and with the chopsticks neatly scattered this to soften the meat, and picked up the jiggly flesh. He ate it as it was, and closed his eyes as he chewed on it. "Oh.. This is good, this is good. This IS autumn. There is so much of this saury's fatty umami, even more so when it was salted and grilled and the skin got crunchy. The refreshing kabosu and the grated daikon over it, no other fish suits this the best. Also, the reddish miso soup really goes well with with everything, it worked the best." This time he tried the saury with the chestnut okowa. Occasionally letting out a sigh of relief and closing his eyes as he eats, it was charming and adorable. Kasuga was also like that, a Tanuki with a distinct gentle air about them, and I love how she's like that. "Kasuga said that when she's eating Aoi-san's delicious food, she goes to work cheerfully everyday." "Kasuga?" T/N: OK, so to make it a bit clearer since not all rice are equal, some rice when boiled or steamed have a texture that makes the grains scattered, and then there are some rice varieties that become sticky/glutinous when cooked, like your usual sushi rice, and then there are some super-mushy ones that need a lot of water-regulating skills to prevent it from becoming rice porridge. The okowa is somewhere in between the excessive watery stuff and the sushi rice consistency. P195 "Yes, she does. That girl, she seemed to have loved working in Tenjin-ya. Way back, she hated working in here." "...is that so? But that's curious. Kasuga's an Ojou-sama, isn't she? Why was she working as a waitress in Tenjin-ya?" "Uhm, that..." Chiaki-san's gaze lowered for a bit, and asked me "How much do you know of... the person Kasuga is engaged to?" I took out the newspaper that Juujirou-ojisan left behind sometime ago, and placed it in front of Chiaki-san. "This child on the photo, I heard that he was the next Hachiyo of the Northern Lands. Isn't he the one that Kasuga previously said that she'll get married to?" "Yes, that's correct. It's Kiyo-sama...He's grown to be very handsome." Chiaki-san looked at the youth on the newspaper, and somehow he seemed calm, he smiled as he drew his eyebrows together. "You know of him?" "Of course. When that child was quite young, he used to stay in the Land of Bunmon a lot. He was sickly, and he gets medical treatment in our University Hospital..." Starting to eat a bit again, Chiaki-san went "Shall I tell you a story from long ago?" and started to talk once again. "The Northern Land's new Hachiyo, Kiyo-sama spent so much time with Kasuga when they were children. Kasuga hated studying, and always hid in the hospital and the library and caused troubles to the adults.” P196 "Kasuga right now is a real hard-worker, I couldn't imagine she was like that. But then again, that was probably because she was still young." "That girl's pranks, as a kid she made those very ingenious and cunning. During that time,  it was hard for me to even handle Kasuga at all." "Tee hee hee" Imagining Chiaki-san following around Kasuga in that situation, somehow I could only smile at that. "During that time when Kasuga has been fleeing a lot and entered a hospital's private room, she met Kiyo-sama. Kasuga and Kiyo-sama were almost the same ages, and they immediately got on good terms. Kiyo-sama read a lot of books, and Kasuga became influenced to read books, as well as growing a bit in working hard in studying. Kiyo-sama was especially interested in the culture and history of Utsushiyo, and those were the topics and books that those two talked about and read about, they had so much fun imagining things." Chiaki-san's expression gradually changed. He was just talking about Kasuga's childhood, but he was smiling a lot as he seemed to remember the past while I was listening, I wonder if there's nothing else other than that. "Kasuga started to have growing feelings for Kiyo-sama. But Kiyo-sama seemed to imagine that he wasn't going to live long, as his body was prone to sickness. Then one day, Kasuga and Kiyo-sama broke out of the hospital room, and the two of them decided to go to Utsushiyo together." P197 "Wahhh? Is that even possible?" "Because it is necessary to go to Utsushiyo, a Hachiyo is issued a travelling pass. Kasuga used her cunning skills to steal the travelling pass from my mother, the Institutional Director. It was preposterous, that wicked brat. But Kasuga, it was because she really wanted to take Kiyo-sama to Utsushiyo so badly..." What I heard happened after those events, was that Kasuga and Kiyo-sama wandered in Utsushiyo together, and after about three days they were discovered by the Bunmon Tanuki who went out on a manhunt, and they were taken to be returned. Because Kiyo-sama has a frail body, his condition deteriorated and took the turn for the worse. Kasuga received severe reprimands, and she was forbidden to meet him again. After that, Kasuga was punished by her Institutional Director grandma to work in Tenjin-ya, so that she would learn the harshness of the outside world. Work really, really hard. That was why everybody always asked Kasuga to do a lot of errands here and there, she was told off to do things for others a lot... But nobody knew that Kasuga was in that circumstance. When everybody learned that Kasuga was an Ojou-sama, it was impossible not to get shocked. It seemed that none of the management staff in Tenjin-ya knew Kasuga's personal history. "However, when Kasuga started to work a lot in Tenjin-ya, it became obvious that she has become changed. Her movements P198 have grown to be more responsible, when total strangers scold her as she was earning hard for her money by working, it was because she hasn't had much experiences. It was altogether different when she met O-ryo-san. She raised Kasuga with eagerness and zeal, the Kasuga who doesn't know anything. This was because it was before O-ryo-san became the Wakaokami." "Really now. So that is why, until now 'O-ryo-sama' is still how Kasuga calls O-ryo." "Yes, that's right. Well, since O-ryo-san is always acting with so much insolence, being with her eventually turned Kasuga into a grown-up." "Well, that's for sure..." O-ryo may have raised Kasuga, in a way O-ryo's bad example probably made Kasuga grow... I could remember when I first came to Kakuriyo. When she got demoted from being the Wakaokami, when O-ryo got a fever, Kasuga brought her here. That time it was somehow unimaginable, but Kasuga, even though she has her own issues to deal with didn't forsake O-ryo. "Kasuga was here, due to the things that she did during her childhood. After that, even though Kasuga can't see Kiyo-sama again... it can be said that it was their fate, wasn't it? When Kiyo-sama became the North's Hachiyo, Kasuga decided to get married to him. Even though they were separated once, this time because they were pushed to a marriage against their own will, it can be said that they have grown into mature beings. Although they may be childhood friends, aren't they having such a complicated idea?" P199 "..." Kasuga, with what she meant with her expressions and her words, I could only realize what her explanations were. She may be smiling because she was going to get married to her first love, but to that end there were still some unfinished issues not taken care of. I was worried. Because Kasuga is my friend. When I came here, I prayed for everybody in Tenjin-ya happiness, likewise I allowed to myself to go through anybody's sadness that they hold, and I couldn't imagine that in my dreams. "Kasuga, she's surely leaving, isn't she?" "Yes, that's right. I daresay that the engagement talks, it's going to progress from now. Aside from that, the Northern Land is not in the road towards stability, but it seems that Kasuga is fully aware of her position. But isn't getting married troublesome? Aoi-san, when you came here, didn't you have a lot of problems?" I peeked at Chiaki-san's face, and he asked. Surely, it was also that same reason why I came here... "But.. I'm not going to get married to Odanna-sama yet!" "Ahaha. While Kasuga was talking about it, she seems to constantly retort that, right?" "Wah, don't laugh at me--" Chiaki-san kept hitting his hand faintly while laughing. Anybody who's facing their worries and affections would eventually show their true feelings, in the end. P200 "Aoi-san. Kasuga has concerned friends such as Aoi-san, who saves her. If that's the case, from here on end... If I could ask for Aoi-san's permission as the need arises, please help us. I want you to help us..." "..." "Aoi-san and Kasuga, will eventually grow to have similar positions in the future, won't they? Being a Hachiyo's wife... Behind the political stage, becoming one is a huge role to carry on one's shoulder. It's because in Kakuriyo, that is the wife of a great Youkai." With an earnest expression he was making his request, but I can't say my routine answer of "No I am not yet married to Odanna-sama". Instead... "Awww... Ish Aoi-shaan crying..?" Chibi who was playing with the acorn lying around, suddenly stopped and pointed at me. He placed his flipper on my hand. "It's, it's not like that! The ashes from the charcoal grill got into my eye!"** "Eh?! Aoi-san... I'm so sorry, I was being weird..." "No, it's not that..." But why do the tears keep on coming... My eyes hurt from the stinging pain, I thought that it was because of the ashes that flew out of the charcoal grill, but at the same time T/N: Yeah right, sure Aoi, keep telling yourself that bwahahaha we all know what's happening here **Lenny face** P201 I was attacked by the merciless thoughts that words cannot describe. Kasuga may have already braced herself with her decision, but I barely have any awareness, that in Kakuriyo I allowed myself to be dragged here to Kakuriyo selfishly. Kasuga is going to leave Tenjin-ya with a smile, I wonder if I can have that... When she's going to be the Northern Land's Hachiyo's wife, meanwhile me here, I don't know... "Ah, uhm, Aoi-san please stop crying..." "Aoi-shaan. Aoi-shaan if you keep crying you'll get uglyyy--" "What the, I already told you I wasn't crying!" Chiaki-san was all consoling-mode, and while at it Chibi was consoling while saying so many things. It's perplexing, it makes no sense that I was crying and sobbing. Chiaki-san was explicitly, one way or another saying a lot himself, and was in a panic. He stooped down and as he pulled out his hand towel, he was saying "I'm sorry, are you alright? I'm so sorry.." In the corner of my mind, as I was wiping my eyes I thought about what O-ryo said before, that this amiable, good-natured young man takes others into consideration so much, no wonder he's absolutely popular. But a while ago, he was wiping off Chibi's drool... "Aoi-san, thank you for your hard work..." Ginji-san unfortunately saw that scenario, just as he came to Yugao. P202 "..." While Ginji-san was still wearing his smile, he quickly went over to Chiaki-san. "Hey Chiaki. What is this? Why did you make Aoi-san cry?" It was scary, Ginji-san grabbed Chiaki-san's collar by the neck, and a shadow fell across his eyes. "The mild-mannered Wakadanna-sama got so scary!" said Chiaki-san as he went pale, and in that moment he turned into a cute, brown Tanuki. Turning into a surprised and scared Tanuki, he's definitely like Kasuga right there. Thankfully, my tears had stopped flowing. "I'm alright, Ginji-san. It's just because some of the ashes went into my eyes. Chiaki-san was just worried for me." "Is.. is that so? I'm sorry, everybody. I may have misunderstood a bit..." Somehow due to that misunderstanding, for some reason Ginji-san's cheeks twinged, and his ears drooped. "Oh! The ginko nuts!" "Ah!" In that moment, Chiaki-san and I remembered what we were supposed to be doing. While I was serving Chiaki-san food, it went over our heads and we forgot about it. "Oh, could that be for Odanna-sama and everyone else, in the back of the mountain? I was about to go there too. P203 I wanted to bring sake and a large towel, and I dispatched an Ogre-fire so fast." "Sake and towel...?" "Because it's rare, let's bring the charcoal grill, and let's all go to the mountain behind Tenjin-ya, together. We'll roast the ginko nuts in there, we're going to have an elegant feast. It's surely going to be a really good appetizer** for moon-viewing sake." "Wah, that's wonderful!" Ginji-san's plan made me feel ecstatic. Just a while ago I was sobbing because of that, but now it's because we're going to cook.
There is a mountain behind Tenjin-ya, and it's a facility where hotspring-boiled eggs are made, has an open-air hotspring, a foot bath, a famous summer place where rice can be cooked in open air, among others, it was a facility with a lot of various uses and has complete furnishings. Odanna-sama was with Tenjin-ya's founding members Byakuya-san and Dr. Saraku, I wonder what were they discussing about... "Hey, this is different from the usual path..." Normally we would be walking through the path in the bamboo grove, but this time we climbed up. I thought that the pipe cats would come out squirming as we passed through the bamboo grove, but this time we turned through a narrow path in front of us, it was lined up with old Jizou statues** and hanging lanterns, and we walked on a small, unpaved path. T/N: Yeah I know it sounds absurd but if you've tried drinking liquor while eating nuts or even some salty junk food, it actually tastes good together. Broke college days cheap beer and cheap junk food lol Jizou=地蔵=patrons of children, you probably saw at least one when you watched J-dramas or anime, the people usually put on scarves and/or hats on them whenever it snows. P204 "This time the bamboo grove is not passable. Other than Tenjin-ya's facilities, since long ago it has been called the secret base of Tenjin-ya's management staff." "Really, a secret base?" "Be that as it may, I didn't say that others are forbidden to enter it. It gives off the feel of children's secret base, that's why it was called as such." If that's the case. my expectations have increased. It has tickled my childish mind. "This season's surely great. Don't you think so, Ginji-san?" "Yes... I thought that Aoi-san would like too. Saying that somehow... You're twinkling." "Twinkling?" While Chiaki-san and Ginji-san were talking, as we left the little road lined up with Jizou statues, there was... "Wahhhh! Amazing! It's pampas grass!" It was a wide field where the pale silver ears of the pampas grass were swaying. Under the clear, night sky where the the moon floats up above, it mystically rules this place and its scenery. Occasionally I've seen the pampas grass growing in the inner garden, but in this wide field there was pampas grass everywhere I looked, like autumn has begun. The ears of the pampas grass in Kakuriyo were specially fluffy, it seems to be enveloped by the fleeting light. Not only does the light dance in the sky but there was also a light breeze, and with the floating full moon above, the light seems P205 to soak it all up... it was an emotionally-moving spectacle. "The children in Kakuriyo play in the pampas grass fields and turn them into their secret bases, you know. Even back in my hometown I used to do that a lot." "Odanna-sama and everyone else, I think that they're in an old shrine after that pampas grass field. There is a hotspring over there that gushes forth with high levels of pure spiritual energies, and since long ago there were facilities that were used to boil things like hell..." We followed Ginji-san who lead the way, and from somewhere we heard the sounds of laughter. That laughing voice, it seems to be from the Thousand-Year Mole** Ayakashi, Dr. Saraku. We left the soft pampas grass field, and there was billowy steam popping out... Is that a hotspring? "..." Somewhat wearing nothing, soaking in that natural hotspring, were the three senior management staff members. Suddenly without warning, with that scene that leaves out the imagination, I got utterly speechless. "Ahhh.. for sure, the moon and the hotspring and the sake, this is the best! I haven't gone above ground after so long... Full moon banzai!" What the, a sake bottle jutted out of a rock, and soaking in the hot spring while holding the small sake drinking bowl, was Dr. Saraku. "Good grief. You've gotten so drunk Saraku. Drinking sake while on a bathtub is bad for the health. You keep saying that you're always hiding and cooping up underground, well now you only want to go above ground whenever you want." Then someone's face appeared to be extremely cautious, with the towel wrapped around his head in the style of someone who's already finished T/N: yeah this mole is a hoax, it's just an old badger with skinny legs lol link to that is here P206 soaking in the hotspring, it was Byakuya-san. "Come now, Byakuya. It has been a long while since we've opened up together like this.** Let's just talk about the really important stuff. Alrighty, let's toast to tonight's full moo---- what the, AOI!!!!!" Odanna-sama wasn't even thoroughly finished when he realized that I was standing out near the edges of the pampas grass field, and he madly dashed back to the hotspring with a splash. Incidentally, Dr. Saraku screamed in a hoarse voice "Gyaaaaaaah" while Byakuya-san quietly and furiously looked at me with his eyes as if saying "It's shameless to peep". "No, no, it's not like I went here on purpose! I was just coming out of the lovely fields of pampas grass here in the mountain, and I didn't realize that I was entering the men's bath!" "Ah, Aoi... Could it be that you.. Wanted to take a bath with me too?" "And how can that happen, how can that even happen, Odanna-sama?" Odanna-sama in his sluggishness did all that he can to make an admirable retort. "Oh, uhm... excuse me but, please use this fresh towels that I have!" In the most critical moment, Ginji-san drew them in to leave the hotspring and wear the towels. "It was because I was in the pampas grass field too." I wasn't really embarassed or blushing like a girlfriend, so I just stayed on the opposite side of the men. "Y-you unfortunately saw a bunch of indecent men, Aoi-san--" T/N: OK fam this part is actually nsfw-ish, as they were all naked together in an open-air hotspring, Odanna-sama's line in the original text was "it's been a while since we've all been naked together" but that just sounds so nsfw so I made a euphemism of some sort. I may be a potty mouth but I also have limits, of infinity lol also srsly I just tried my best to make the following scenes clean, srsly the original japanese text has so many uhm...word play that I deem nsfw srsly I did not expect this, jfc P207 With a forced smile, Chiaki-san followed us here. It was awesome that Chiaki-san somehow said that the bosses being naked was indecent. "It's fine. I have been used to washing Grandpa's back thoroughly." "...what" "Why that speechless expressio....n?" Behind the startled Chiaki-san, I discovered what seems to be an inconspicuous square gazebo. "What's that over there?" We went closer to where it was. There was something that looks like a cauldron, and from its rounded wooden lid steam was coming out. I wonder what they're boiling in there... "Ah, that's is Hell's Cauldron. In here, it's almost never used..." "He-- Hell's Cauldron?" “That cauldron is used to steam ingredients using the hot vapors from the hotsprings. Since the hotsprings also have hot vapors, when these are used to steam food, why, passing them through open fires make them even more delicious. Other than that, here is another thing I can say. When steam that comes out from Tenjin-ya's basements are used to steam ingredients, the steam's composition seems to make them less prone to spoilage." "Really... Isn't that interesting?" Finally, when Ginji-san said that "Alright Aoi-san, it's OK now", I went in front of everybody. P208 A while ago I could only side-glance and go past the three men who were soaking in the open-air hotsprings, but now I followed them for a bit in climbing a small shrine. "Well, Aoi, it's nice that you came." And as if it was nothing, I found Odanna-sama who was sitting in his usual overly-magnanimous pose. There also was Dr. Saraku who was wearing his round, black spectacles  while smiling so brightly as he was holding a bottle of sake, and Byakuya-san who was tapping his fan to the corners of his mouth. But these three management staff members, even though they were comfily wearing large towels after taking a dip in the hotspring, they seemed to be delving into heavy matters. "What were you doing in such a place as this? Did the three of you came to bathe in the hotsprings?" "N-no. In the beginning we were talking about the matter concerning Kasuga. When we eventually thought of going into the hotsprings... Dr. Saraku here, in his drunkeness started pushing Byakuya powerfully into the hotsprings, it was a messy situation." "Byakuya-san wanted to get pushed into the hotsprings" At that point in time I have stopped trembling, and after Byakuya-san cleared his throat, Odanna-sama changed the topic of the conversation. "Kasuga's resignation this month from Tenjin-ya was caused by a lot of issues. That is the path that Kasuga personally chose. As for Tenjin-ya, as Kasuga's marriage is very fortunate, we can't just only give her support from the sides." "..." "...have you gotten lonely, Aoi?" P209 Odanna-sama read my changed expression, and pulling the corners of my eyes together, I smiled. I nodded deeply as I showed my true emotions. "However, there's this sole problem of Hachiyos that hasn't gone away. As Ougondouji-sama predicted, the faction of the Minister of the Left has been calling out the abolition of the Centralized Authoritarian Rulership along with the Hachiyo's Ruling System, hasn't it gotten a lot quieter, Byakuya?" "Hmph. Ougondouji-sama is backed up by the Minister of the Right, but Raijuu is backed up by the Minister of the Left. That guy's evolution doesn't appear to be good, but somehow he's probably making his flashy moves..." Raijuu, isn't it? Odanna-sama and Byakuya-san, they were talking about the movement of Kasuga's marriage, along with the politics of Kakuriyo, and I have no idea what they're talking about right there but... Raijuu making his moves, those words, I couldn't help but not hold on to that without worrying. As the charcoal grill was roasting and toasting the ginko nuts and other tastes of autumn at the shrine's entryway, I remembered the first time that I received Raijuu's maltreatment, and got anguished. "Are you alright, Aoi-san? Is the smoke getting over there?" "Hm? Oh, no.. That's not it, really. The ginko nuts look delicious, don't they?" Ginji-san was fanning the smoke outwards with all his might. Crackle, crackle, the husks of the ginko nuts splitting open were echoing all around. Ah, I could see that these have gotten transluscent, the ginko nut's lovely green color has appeared. When the ginko nuts were gathered they stank, but when they're cooked and ready to eat they seem so appetizing. Those differences were very fascinating. P210 Polishing them brightly, it's not an exaggeration to say that they're the jewels of autumn. Wahh, I wanna eat some... "Kasuga... She works cleverly and is a hardworking person, it's within her core. It's really unfortunate and regretable to lose her as our waitress. It also seems that as a granddaughter leaving by herself, it's so lonely..." Says Odanna-sama. He said it entirely as if he's Kasuga's grandpa. While Odanna-sama was restraining himself from the back, Kasuga's foster-dad Chiaki-san just started crying and sobbing at Odanna-sama's words. Odanna-sama just started patting Chiaki-san's knees, it mysteriously consoled him. "Hey, you know what, Kasuga Ojou-chan always runs so many errands for the basement team, I always give her the unsold manjuu to take home." Oh, so that's why Kasuga always brings in a lot of Tenjin-ya's unsold manjuu, those were given to her by Dr. Saraku. "But from now on, Kasuga's position has changed. Tenjin-ya will be protecting her from behind, and we'll make a lot of souvenirs and other things for her to bring when we send her off. Let's not talk about bad things, Tenjin-ya has its members marrying a Hachiyo one after another.” Byakuya-san opened his fan and while fanning his face, from the corners of his mouth he was somewhat stiffling a laugh. I wonder what souvenirs could those be... "Ah, that's right, Yomego-chan**! Speaking of souvenirs, our souvenirs, OUR souvenirs! Before, Tenjin-ya inquired about the hotspring manjuu, how are those coming along?" T/N: Yomego-chan=嫁御ちゃん=Dr. Saraku calls Aoi as Daughter-in-Law-chan. I've done enough speed runs to know why, so I'll just leave it like this. Don't worry fam, it's cute once that goes up, idk when though T_T dang it, my Nihongo learning skills couldn't keep up T_T P211 "Come again?" While talking about it, Dr. Saraku remembered the matter about the souvenirs, and he abruptly changed it. Everyone stared at me. "Ah, uhm... We're in the middle of our test trials, Dr. Saraku. It will get finished by the time we hold the Autumn Festival." "We don't want an expensive souvenir Aoi-kun." "Well now, Byakuya-san. My basic menu costs minimally. But one more step isn't enough... The usual manjuu as a newly-released product doesn't have enough impact, we have to change it into a striking product so people won't lose interest in it. When the Autumn Festival starts, we'll have it ready." While in the middle of talking about the souvenirs, I instantly had an idea. That's it. The new souvenir from Tenjin-ya...I should also consult Kasuga about it. Kasuga has eaten a lot of Tenjin-ya's manjuu, it seems that she'll have a lot of opinions on what kinds of suitable manjuu can Tenjin-ya make. More than anything, I want Kasuga to taste the new manjuu we'll make before she leaves. It's settled then. I immediately brought a bowl of roasted ginko nuts to Odanna-sama, and he oh-ed when he took one kernel, peeled it of its charred color, and ate the green seed. "Mmmm, this ginko nut tastes good" "It's because it was roasted on a charcoal grill. Roasting the seeds with their husks keeps in the fragrance, and the bitter after taste of the crumbly seeds get more tolerable, which are P212 uniquely the ginko nut's trait. Would you want to try adding coarse salt?" This is too easy to be called cooking, the flavors of autumn, enjoying these as they are, it's the best. Particularly the ginko nuts, just serving them with a bit of salt is exquisite. "Everyone, there's also grilled matsutake mushrooms, and some dried mackerel too. Please have these with the sake." Ginji-san grilled all of these on the charcoal grill, served them in a large platter, and placed them in the center where the management staff were seated. Seeing the flavors of autumn arranged together, my mouth started watering again. "Please take a seat too, Wakadanna-dono" Byakuya-san offered Ginji-san some sake. He only has been waiting to be called for and his expression became so bright, he brought his sake cup and entered the circle of drinkers. It seemed that he somehow, wanted to drink some sake. "Aoi, you come here too. I'm sorry that you have to work here even after Yugao's business hours." "Hm?" "...even your hand, it's full of cracks. She may be of a marriagable age, yet we're helped by such a hard-worker." Matching his concerned words, Odanna-sama faced me, and casually took my hands. Just a while ago the conversations were flowing, and that reminds me... After that Orchard Park date, after a long while we faced each other upfront, for one reason or another I felt embarassed. I flagrantly moved away my face, and the hand he was holding, I pulled it away. "Th-that is, because I work in a Japanese restaurant. Lately it has gotten cold, and my hands have gotten all worn out. P213 But today there weren't many customers, I thought that I needed my body to move some more." "Ahaha, Aoi is definitely a hard-worker, right?" Odanna-sama has always been extremely understanding.** I only realized, it seems that he's only weird with me. "Oh, right. Would you like to drink some of the sweet sake that I got hold of? It has no additives, and no alcohol." "What's that? I wanna drink that." Just a while ago I was all aloof and cold, now I just heard the phrase "There's sweet sake" and my bearing changed 180 degrees. Chiaki-san seemed to have realized my interest, and from the shrine's altar where a lot of the bottles were arranged, he took one and brought it for me. The package gives off a vibe of it being undeniably a high-class product, and my excitement was at its peak. Using the sake cup from the grilled foods plate, Odanna-sama triumphantly poured the sweet sake for me. The sweet sake's particularl trait, I peeked on it and its color is a bit like undisturbed milk, and on the clear top layer some malted rice were floating on it, I saw these as they were shining. "Tenjin-ya has always been in the care of OROCHI's work - The Ebitsu Liquor Products. They made these using only the newly-harvested rice for this year, this product isn’t released in stores to be sold." While Odanna-sama was talking about the product, I took a sip. Ah... Somehow the flavor gave me a sigh of relief. It wasn't too sweet, there wasn't any odor, this sweet sake is easy to drink. There were some grainy lumps left behind, T/N: this phrase is vague-ish, the transliterated version means that he's always glugging the liquor heartily but again, gah this chapter is just full of word plays, really P214 It was really delicious, the sweet sake is like home-brewed and hand-made. I like this grainy stuff too. I could understand why it's really enjoyable, it was hand-made and isn't sold to the public. "This is amazing... I always had the impression that sweet sake has a stench, but this one changed my mind." "It's not altogether a waste using this product, the sweetness of the malted rice helps the flavor to stick to it. That is probably why despite that there aren't so many people who like the sweet sake's unique odor, I like this sweet and mild taste, and every year, when the time comes they make this sweet sake, with a personalized note. I heard that it's also good for your body." "Really now.. Odanna-sama likes this sweet sake. And yet you hate the sweet pumpkin?" "Oh, aren’t the sweet sake and the pumpkin entirely different? A pumpkin is hollow, when it's boiled it gets stuck in the throat. It's soft and sticky, and that is why I find it difficult to eat it." Odanna-sama said those things while sourly turning his eyes away to the side. "That's why I thought somehow, that you were sneakily placing those in my bowl, Odanna-sama" "Byakuya! Don't reveal something that nasty to Aoi!" Odanna-sama was pnaicking and wailing a lot, but I have previously heard that from Ginji-san... On the other hand, Ginji-san has sunk into a drunken stupor. While Byakuya-san poured some sake for him, Ginji-san's nine tails would incidentally move a lot, and he has been extremely exhausted from drinking. It was like eating wanko soba.** "I also want to drink some sweet sake" "Ah, well then I shall pour for you" T/N: wanko soba=わんこそば= this has always weirded me out, it's like they put a bite-size portion in a tiny bowl and they'll keep giving this to you until you get full, like an endless stream of soba/buckwheat noodles. Personally just give the whole thing to me and I'll eat it lol P215 This time, I poured Odanna-sama some of the sweet sake. Looking at that scene with a laidback yet careful attitude, Dr. Saraku suggestively went "Hey, heeeey" while his face broke into a grin. "Yomego-chan pouring sake like that for Odanna-sama, somehow you look like a real husband and wife. After Kasuga Ojou-chan, it's also a good idea to write your marriage registration here too." "What?" "Hmmm... You have a point there. Following Kasuga's lead, pretty soon Aoi-kun will brace herself too." Even Byakuya-san. I could feel that the two higher management members have severely put me under so much pressure, I'm just thoroughly shrivelled. Well, isn't this vibe like what happens all over the country, when a girl reaches a marriagable age the parents just pushes her to get married? "Hey now, both of you stop that. I don't want to force Aoi against her will." "What's that?" "Until Aoi likely decides to have me for her husband, I'll... be waiting forever." "..." What the, this Odanna-sama is being meek. While sipping the sweet sake bit by bit, his face is just full of dejection. Even though before, he said that he had no intention of waiting forever... P216 I can't understand what Odanna-sama's intentions were, but if it's useless to push him, should I pull back? Might it be that, Odanna-sama already, vehemently, doesn't want to marry me anymore? I felt emotionally-struck a thousand times, I don't understand why there is this puzzling feeling of impending fears. Lately I have been... such an emotional wreck.

Other stuff I used to do this: Kodansha Kanji Learner’s Dictionary (you can buy here, I’m not sponsored btw). I was about to buy the older edition but then the newer one came out 2013 so I bought that instead. Worth buying since I was able to find nearly all of the words I needed just by stroke pattern alone.
Merriam-Webster's Japanese-English Dictionary (the red-covered 1996 version is apparently out of print right now). This is what I have been using for a very long time, I bought it when I was still a fetus (yes I am old so what lol), and after so many years, when compared to newer editions, I still prefer this one since its entirety is Japanese-English, the English to Japanese gloss are just 16 pages tops, so you get more Japanese words for your buck. But that’s just my opinion, maybe other people prefer the Jap-En x En-Jap IDEK.
Basic online dictionary, Jisho. Knowledge of verb conjugations  and other words are necessary since not all have entries.
If you can read Japanese, you can buy the whole set in Amazon Japan, they’re shipping worldwide now, I think.

(I want Mikan to have wheelies to escape her feelies) Komaru, Celeste, Monomi. Crush anon here again and I’m 100% done. She ignores me one second and then she texts me outta nowhere as if I’ll automatically be nice. And that’s what happens every time. I’m getting targeted AGAIN by people who can’t leave the past where it should stay. They say they’re spreading “awareness” and not out to ruin my life but it feels like it lmfao how else would they know I change my user unless they stalk me. (1/2)
Tumblr media
Wh-Wh-Whaaaaaaa--?! Crush anon, that’s just beyond terrible! That’s, like, one of the biggest no-nos I’ve witnessed since that day when Monokuma ruined my carrot garden. Those people are such meanies; to not leave the past in the past and to not let you do what you need to do is just wrong! Wrong wrong, ding-dong wrong! Grrrrr, this angers me as your teacher... but alas, you’re in need of hugs, so I shall hold back the urge to use my magic stick on those mean people for now.
Tumblr media
I truly think it’s not right for her to pull such a mean trick like that, but I also think it’s not right for those people to keep bringing up the past. Like that one girl with the pretty ice dress and cool ice powers in that movie once said: “The past is in the past!” And she’s right, though it seems like these people believe otherwise, which is not good. Nuh-uh, not at all. They’re not “spreading awareness”; they’re being big ol’ bullies! Here you are, moving in the right direction like the super duper amazing person you are and having a solid bond with your crush, but then these meanies decide to crash the party! That’s just a load of rotten carrots right there. Waahhh, and to hear that you were crying as you typed this ask out makes me cry. I shall wipe away your tears first though, my dear crush anon. My tears can wait; I must be there for my students first and foremost.
Tumblr media
I can tell that you’re almost breaking from this despair, but please, for your sake, try your very best to keep your head held up as high as possible. You can get through this, and if you want, you can hold my stubby hand along the way. I don’t mind, tee-hee. But seriously, you’re going to be okay. I sadly don’t know what the final outcome will ultimately be though, but for now, let me give you as many soft, squishy hugs as you want. You can cry as much as you want, too, if you want. And if it’ll make you feel better, I’ll even make you some ramen noodles and play video games with you! I shall let some of my students take over now, but please, just keep in mind that I care about you and your well-being, and I one-thousand percent believe in you.
Tumblr media
---
Oh my gosh, anon. Words... words cannot express how sorry I am to hear all of that. Seriously, I’m almost speechless just from reading all of that. Maybe I should confront Toki about those people who seemingly can’t let go of the past and let you live your life...
Tumblr media
N-Nevermind that right now though. Seriously, those people just need to screw off! You acknowledge whatever mistakes you made in the past, you own up to them, and you’re willing to move on and learn from then. You’re a genuinely good person who knows when to own up to your own mistakes and learn from them; that’s long since been established. But to have those people do such terrible things, and then to have her do that and expect you to act natural and completely fine about it; that’s just wrong and then some. But Monomi’s right though. Right now, it probably feels like the despair is just overwhelming and maybe even too much for you to handle. However, I know you can do it! And me, Monomi, Celeste, and everyone else here will be here by your side! Well, okay, you have people like Junko and Byakuya who may be a bit more reluctant to helping others and giving them hope, but me and Toki will force them to help you out if you need them to!
Tumblr media
I know you only specifically wanted hugs, but I just wanted to say something first. I’ll happily give you a hug or two now, anon. Feel free to come back again if you ever need to. I promise, despite being some average high school girl, I’ll be here by your side. Please take care of yourself now, anon.

-
Hello again my dear, I'm sorry to hear that things haven't improved for you. Nevertheless, I'll try my best to help you. Hmm, that certainly is some strange behavior from your crush. That seems like some classic avoidance behavior. I'm guessing she's avoiding some topic, and if I'm being honest, that behavior is quite irritating and unfair. I completely understand your frustrations. You're being targeted again? How disgusting and despicable. How are they spreading awareness by stalking and harassing you? That doesn't make sense in the least, and I doubt their actions serve any ulterior motive aside landing hits on you and trying to cause pain. Something like a user change is a fairly small detail, so yes, I believe that would take a certain amount of watching your accounts to see a change each time it occurs. Constantly watching for every little detail, and then posting it publicly does fall under stalking and potential harassment in my humble opinion. Well it's no wonder you're getting tired of it! This is an utterly ridiculous situation. Perhaps I can give these people the benefit of the doubt and say that they think they're doing the right thing, but that doesn't excuse that their methods are wrong and ultimately harmful. These people's work is inexperienced and sloppy, and I really am sorry you have to be on the receiving end of such a damaged loose cannon. I am glad that you at least have one friend on your side. Hopefully that can make things the slightest bit more bearable.
Tumblr media
My dear, I am very very proud of you for trying to change. You've gone miles above so many other people. You've acknowledged that you've done wrong, and that is an impossible step for so many people. You really are making a genuine attempt to change, and that's amazing. You're already becoming a better person just for trying, and that makes me respect you full heartedly. No, it truly isn't fair in the least. I would punch these people in the face, although I believe that would ruin my whole aesthetic. I'll find someone else to do it for me then. Obviously these people have their actions twisted if they even really considered your well being to begin with. People are capable of doing terrible things, I'm certainly one to talk. But I do believe that people can be redeemable, if and only if they make a genuine effort to change and never go back to their previous behavior. As far as I can see, you've done just that, and you're already so much more than the person that these slanderers think you are. It really does make me angry to hear what these people have done to you. They genuinely ruined a chance for you to successfully change and be happy, and GOD DAMMIT THAT'S DISGUSTING OF THEM...but what happened happened. Unfortunately we can't change the past, and as hard as it is, you have to keep going forward. I'm so sorry they took that from you. I know it doesn't feel like it, but you'll be able to find that kind of happiness again. It will be even stronger, and these people won't be able to ruin it for you. I fully agree, they should shut the hell up. I really am sorry my dear. I can't imagine the pain that you're in.
Tumblr media
Apologies for the harsh truth, but there's nothing left for you in that relationship. It's clear that whatever you had is gone, so you shouldn't waste your time chasing what's already vanished. Moving hard is never easy, especially when it was taken out of your hands like this. If I could change it, I would. I truly would. But you need to keep going. Bury the past as they say. Holding all of this weight is crushing you, you need to let it go. I know, it'll hurt even worse for a time when you do, but that pain will fade. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger my dear, and I believe those words are true. Don't let these despicable slugs win. Show you're stronger and better than they think you are. I know it hurts, but keep going. I promise you you'll find someone better, and all of this will be a bad memory before long. I am sorry you lost a person who was important to you, but in all honesty, it's their loss. They won't ever find a person like you again. I know you're empty, and you don't have to feel full again any time soon. You're grieving after all. Even if a person hasn't passed away, losing like this is still a cause for grief.
Tumblr media
Oh you poor thing, it's perfectly ok to cry. Don't keep these things in, let them out before they suffocate you. I'll hug you for as long as you need alright? I'm right here, I support you and I know others do as well. You really are a good person. You are changing and you're already so much better than these people, no matter what happened in your past. I know there's nothing else I can say that will really make you feel better, so I'm perfectly happy to just sit with you and be with you, emotional support if you will. Don't let ghosts of the past drag you down. I see how much of a better person you are, and I'm sure others do too.

The Cat’s Whiskers x Akan Yatsura / “JUSTICE” voice drama part 2
Exams ended...!! Hello I am alive...!! And very (not) ready for “PRIDE”...!! T_T
“JUSTICE” Part 2
Yohei: So, you bastards… under whose orders did you come here?
Mobs: We’re not working under anyone! That kinda thing doesn’t matter, just cough up the cash, fuckin’ bastads!!
Iori: Tch… so they’re just punks.
Oi, we’ll let you off today, so get out.
Mobs: Don’t look down on us! If ya don’t give us the cash, y’all gonna get hurt!
Yohei: You’re letting them go? You really have that soft spot on you.
Iori: There’s no helping it. No matter what you do, guys like these won’t even get you 1 yen.
Mobs: Makin’ a fool out of us...! You shitheads! Urrah!!
(Mob punched Iori)
Yohei: You bastard... what the fuck did you just...?
Iori: Leave it, danna. I’m fine.
Yohei: Don’t think you can leave unscathed after laying your hands on Iori...!
Mobs: Bring it on, get me!!
(Yohei and the mobs fight)
(The mobs fall down and cough in pain)
Iori: Danna. That’s too much.
Yohei: Huh? Oh. Sorry.
Iori: Well, then...
(Iori forcibly pulled one of the mobs up)
Mobs: Ahh... ah!
Iori: You bastards. Learnt something, didn’t you?
If you pick a fight with real yakuza like us, you ain’t getting away just like this. Understand?
This time, we’ll let you off like this. Be grateful, won’t you?
Mobs: Y-yes... we’re very sorry...
Iori: Haha. Even so, danna. You really overdid it.
It’s gonna take lots of time to clean this up.
Yohei: Sigh. Small fries making us waste so much time.
Jeez, what a pain.
_
Saimon: He-eh, you were very rough, weren’t you, Yohei.
Yohei: Well, ‘cause that time I didn’t have any brains but physical strength.
Zen: If it’s physical strength, then I, too...!
Cough. Then, where does the maneki-neko comes in?
Iori: Wahahaha! Oh yeah, right.
Then, a few days after that uproar, we got called to Boss’s office.
We went in high spirits, thinkin’ we’re gon’ get a reward or something, but...
_
Yohei: Jeez, that damn boss messing around like that...
What the hell’s with giving us this maneki-neko!?
Iori: Hahaha, our guess were wrong, huh.
Yohei: We protected the shop’s name and loaded customers, so he could’ve given us something more... you know!?
Iori: Well, it’s probably simply because he didn’t have anything prepared. After all, those guys suddenly came to our face by themselves and then left just like that. Seriously, it feels like we were wheedled out of it cleanly.
Yohei : Well, when he just up and smiled like that, as he said, ‘I have high expectations for you’, there’s really nothing else we could say.
Iori: Right.
Well, we’ll answer his expectations, quickly get lots of money, and make the boss, us, and the Suiseki group, everyone all merry.
Yohei: Haha, yeah. Let’s do it. I’m counting on you, maneki-neko.
Iori: Ya shoulda said ‘partner’ right there, like, ‘I’m counting on you, Iori’!
Yohei: Oi, oi, you’re talking like Boss now.
Iori: Haha. How was it? I look like Boss when I talk like that, don’t I?
Yohei: No way. Stupid.
Iori: Haha.
Yohei: Hahaha.
_
Saimon: So that kind of thing happened, huh, Yohei? I didn’t know at all.
Zen: To think that that maneki-neko was a gift from the Boss...
Iori: How’s it!? A real good story, ain’t it?
Zen: Yes. A lot of things happened in the past, wasn’t it.
Iori: Well, that’s ‘cause we’ve been workin’ together for almost all the time.
Yohei: It was a story from really long ago, though.
Iori: Come of think of it, at that time there were those Alter Trigger Company guys too, weren’t there?
Yohei: Hah. What unpleasant connection, seriously.
Iori: Seriously an unpleasant connection, it is.
Yohei: Hm?
Iori: Danna, ya also heard of it recently, right? The Alter Trigger Company name.
Saimon: Why do you guys... that...?
Iori: Hahahaha! If ya work in this industry, ya gon’ hear lotsa stuff.
Yohei: And? How much do you know?
Iori: Nah, I dunno the details, but I only know that this bar’s ‘bout to be bought... and who’s gonna buy it.
Yohei: As expected, news travels fast to you.
Yeah. To protect this place, we have to get the one billion.
But this and that have no――...!
Iori: And that’s the deal. So, y’know anything about Paradox Live and Alter Trigger, danna?
Saimon: What are you trying to say?
Iori: The sudden buy-out uproar and the opening of Paradox Live. Plus, the winning prize is exactly the amount of money that y’all needed, one billion yen. Don’tcha think it’s too good a scenario for mere coincidence?
Saimon: In short, Alter Trigger Company is connected to all of it... is what you’re trying to say, is it?
Iori: Who knows?
Saimon: But... No, don’t tell me... that kind of thing is...
Yohei: We’re... being manipulated?
Iori: ‘Sup with that... seein’ that reaction, y’all don’t seem to have any info.
Saimon: ...
Iori: Seems like it’s a fruitless effort on our part. Well, let’s just say I told y’all ‘cause of our old friendly relations.
There’s somethin’ ‘bout this competition. Do your best to be careful.
Yohei: Oi, what the hell’s up about this event!?
Saimon: Anything is fine―please tell us whatever you-
(Bar door opens, and the bell rings)
Ryuu: We’re hooome!
Reo: Big Bro, we’re back!
Yohei: Sigh... seems that the adults’ time ended.
Hokusai: Hey... you said you guys keep cats... where are they?
Shiki: Oh... sorry, we made it so they can’t come into the shop. Right now, they’re probably asleep upstairs...
Hokusai: Even though I brought lots of setarias... [1]
Reo: Don’t be that dejected, Hokusai. Instead, seems like Satsuki will play with that!
Hokusai: Satsuki... really?
Satsuki: Ha? Who the hell wants to play with some wild grass?
Oi, Hokusai, stop looking at me with eyes full of expectations!
Reo: Can’t help it! Then, guess the demon king will do! Heere, come here~!
Ryuu: There’s no way Ryuu will wag his tail to such a grass...
Woof, woof~ Let’s play, let’s play!
Hokusai: Ryuu. Paw.
Ryuu: Woof!
Hokusai: The other paw.
Ryuu: Woof!
Satsuki: No, I told you it’s a setaria! The fuck’s with ‘woof’!?
Hokusai: Ah.
Shiki: U-um, inside of the shop, please don’t...!
Saimon: Haha, it’s alright, Shiki. We’re already closed, after all.
Zen: We’re very sorry that our kids...
Yohei: I feel like I kinda understand your feelings...
Satsuki: Thanks for the food, Big Bro! Raimen-tei’s ramen’s the best today, too! And the change...
Iori: S’kay, just take it, Satsuki.
Satsuki: Seriously!? Is it really ok!?
Iori: Let’s say it’s a tip for printing that one time. ‘Kay? [2]
Reo: Ah, what? Only Satsuki!? That’s unfair! Me too, me too!
Satsuki: Haah!? You didn’t even do anything!
Reo: Haah!? What are you saying? A cute kid like me has a value by just being there. Unlike Satsuki! Right, Shiki?
Satsuki: HAA!?
Shiki: H-hey, let’s not fight...
Satsuki: You ugly! Shiki, back off!!
Shiki: A-ah.... you’re so mean, Satsuki-kun...
Zen: Aah, they’re at it again. I’m sorry.
Oi!! What the hell are you guys on about!!?
(In the background.)
Reo: You’re frustrated, aren’t you~? For not being popular!
Satsuki: Oi!!!
Zen: How many times is it already!?
Saimon: They seem like they’re always fighting.
Iori: Haha. They’re what you call somethin’ like ‘the closer you are...’! [3]
Ryuu: By the way, what were boss and the others talking about?
Saimon: Hm? Oh, just small talks.
Ryuu: Reeeally? Hmmm? Ah, I know!
You guys were talking about the people standing behind everyone... right!?
Saimon: ...!? Ryuu...!?
Reo: What is it, what is it? Talking about ghosts?
Ryuu: No~ It’s a-dults’-ta-lk!
Iori: Oi. Whaddaya mean? Ya know somethin’?
Ryuu: Know? About what? The ingredients of konnyaku?
Iori: Sonny, don’t be boring and say sloppy things.
Ryuu: To pack... [4] like, packing chikuwa and cucumber?
Saimon: I’m sorry. Could you please not press this child with questions?
Iori: O-oh... yeah, ya right. Sorry, sorry.
This sonny... he knows somethin’?
Ryuu: Hee-eey, if ghosts do appear what do we do~?
Satsuki: Hey, Shiki, is this guy always like this? Even in the ramen shop he just keeps blabbering on whatever comes up on his mind.
Ryuu: Shiki’s arm is really white and boney, huh!? Calcium!!
(Ryuu bites Shiki’s arm.)
Shiki: I-it hurts! Ryuu-kun, stop biting me!
Ryuu: Munch, munch...
Reo: Seriously, how could you live together with that? Ain’t it crazy?
Shiki: No, I’m already used to it...
Ryuu: Woof, munch, munch!
Satsuki: Nothing is scarier than routine...!
Shiki: But, he also has a really kind side to him...
Yohei: Oi, until when are you gonna bite Shiki’s arm!?
Ryuu: Oooouch! Master’s bullying me! I’m against violence!
Hokusai: Shiki, are you okay? It hurts, didn’t it? Good boy...
Shiki: Thank you...
Saimon: Sigh...
Shiki: Owner...?
 (in the background.)
Reo: Come here, good boy, good boy.
Ryuu: Woof, woof!
Reo: Here, here, here, and there!
Ryuu: Woof, woof, woof!
 Shiki: Um, are you okay...?
Saimon: Hm? Why?
Shiki: It kind of looked liek you were spacing out... I wondered if you were tired...
Saimon: Ah... I was just thinking. Thank you for worrying, Shiki. You’re a kind child.
Shiki: N-not at all.
(Iori clapped his hands twice.)
Iori: Well then, it’s already late. Let’s call it a night.
Reo: Yeeees~!
Zen: Even though we said we’ll only have a glass, in the end we stayed for a long time.
Saimon: It’s alright. Come again whenever you want.
Hokusai: It’d be nice if I can meet the kitties next time...
Yohei: Yeah, you can even bring them home if you want.
Hokusai: Really...!?
Reo: No, no. We already have Mr. Monkey in our house, right? By the name of Satsuki!
Hokusai: I see...
Satsuki: Oi, oi, oi, Hokusai! The hell do you mean by ‘I see’!?
Ryuu: Bye-bye, thank you, come again!
Shiki: We’ll be waiting for your next visit.
Zen: Yeah, thanks for the food!
Iori: Hey, brats! Wontcha get outta here fast!?
Reo: See ya~!
Hokusai: Hehe...
Satsuki: Let’s come again!
Iori: Danna. I’m different from when I’m still chasing after you.
Now, these guys’re my family.
So, to protect ‘em too, I can’t lose on stage.
I ain’t gon’ give ya mercy even though we’re old comrades.
Yohei: Heh. Bring it on.
‘Cause we also can’t lose.
No way i’d lose the bar and my comrades.
Iori: Well then, the next time we meet’s on the stage!
Yohei: Yeah. Just you wait.
(Iori walks out of the bar.)
Yohei: Oi, you’re Gazen, aren’t you?
Zen: Yes?
Yohei: Him... Iori, look after him carefully, wont you? I’m counting on you.
Zen: Yes. You don’t even have to tell me that.
Yohei: Heh. I see.
(Zen walks out of the bar.)
Yohei: Well then, now you all go and clean up! Move quickly!
Shiki: A-ah, yes!
Ryuu: Eeeeh?
Saimon: You too, Yohei.
Yohei: Yes, yes, understood, Owner-sama.
Then, Shiki, you clean. Ryuu, get the dustpan.
Shiki: Yes!
Ryuu: Understood!

True love’s child comes when you least expect it.
Essie
When I was 14 I was doing my family tree for a school project, that was when I realised that no one in my family had parents who stayed together. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be the first, I decided that I would only have a baby, if it would be with my true love. But how could I tell?
Well it first I tried just not sleeping with anyone, but one night when I was 19 after realizing telling guys I wouldn't put out acturly turned them away. I realized I needed help, so like in a Disney movie I wished on a star. Silly I know but I wasn't religious so it was all I got.
"I wish that I could only get pregnant with my true loves child" I wished.
"Are you sure? True loves child is meant to come went it is least expected" a soft voice high pitched voice explains.
"Yes. Are you my fairy godmother?" I asked amazed.
The women who sat on my bed was stunning and had a huge pregnant belly her, laugh sounded like a tiny bell. "No" she said after a giggle "I always enjoy when people think I'm that".
She then explains she can indeed make it that I can only get pregnant with my true loves child. But that I may regret it if I can't find them and end up childless, but I want it so bad I'm willing to take the risk.
She held my hands and whispered some words to make it so.
I'm now almost 40, I tried for years to find him. The only thing I found was that I am also into girls as well as guys, but women can't knock me up so I don't date them. I even tried IVF but it seems that I shot myself in the foot cause even that doesn't work. I feel like I have cursed myself as I can only get pregnant with a child of my true loves.
Harmony
I was hoping too meet up with some friends tonight, but I don't think they are going to turn up. It's a shame I dressed up and everything, my daughter is at a sleepover so it is one of my few night off and I wanted to make the most of it. I'm about to leave the bar when my handbag knocks over a ladies drink over her lap.
I pick up the glass and start grabbing napkins, "I am so sorry" I applogise.
"It's fine" she says also grabbing napkins, "it was an accident".
"I hope I haven't ruinned your night, is your dress okay?" I ask mopping up the mess.
"I was leaving anyway, it was a silly idea coming here".
I feel terible ruining her night, I end up giving her my jacket and buying her a drink and then another and then I offer to buy her dinner.
I find out that her name is Essie and she was bi, but only dated men so she could one day have a child. But now she's given up and was hoping to meet a women in that bar.
3 hours later we are leaving the restaurant as it's about to close for the night, "I still can't believe you ended up giving birth on stage" Essie exclaims as we walk to the underground station.
But then she tells me about the wish she made when she was 19, "do you think I'm crazy and I've made it up?" She says as we stop outside the station.
I look her in the eyes "no, I believe you. I hope you find true love, and have your child. If I could I'd try and see if I was yours".
She blushes "I was looking for a women tonight, I have given up just looking for a man because they can give me a family. I except that I like women too, maybe it just wasn't meant to be. You used a donor and you seem like you're a kick ass mama, I wish I could do the same. But I am into women and you especially".
"Are you sure your not just drunk and tomorow you'll find me hideous" I joke but to my surprise she kisses me, and it's not a drunk sloppy kiss. I go to kiss her again tentatively at first, but quickly turning desperate as I realized just how much we both needed each other. It's crazy we met hours ago but there's just a magnetic pull, now I've had a taste I couldn't give her up.
"You could always come back to mine for a bit?" She suggests trying to sound casual but I can tell her heart is racing as fast as mine.
I leep at the optunity to spend the night with this georgous women, when we get back everything seems too feel so right and natural. She's never been with a women yet she seems to be ready.
The next morning I rolled over for a snuggle and felt that Essie wasn't there. I opened my eyes properly squinting against the daylight, the early morning sun shone through the curtains. Had she woke and ran off, wait no this was her flat. Where was she? I could her her moving around the flat so I got up and looked for her.
Then I herd her voice "ooooooohhh please make it stop". I pushed her bathroom door open and found her kneeling on the tiled floor next to the toilet, hands wrapped around her belly. Had she drank too much last night or got food poisoning? "No Harmony I don't want you too see me like this" she sobbed.
"You can't help being ill" I said leaving the doorway coming closer too her. But then I see under her dressing gown, she has nothing on and her belly has grown. It looks pregnant! I couldn't see proberly from the doorway that her arms and her hunched up body, were covering a orb like belly.
"I don't understand what's happened but it hurts" she says tears runninh down her face.
I want to hold her tight, I am as confused as she is. "Do you think you'll be sick again?" I ask, she shakes her head. "Then lets get you back to bed".
Together slowly we get her back into the bedroom and back into my arms. She is now curled up in fetal position with her arms wrapped around her midsection, and my arms wrapped around her. We both then froze as we felt moment from within her stomach.
“The pain is getting worse" she whispered unfrezing us, I could tell she was scared. We both knew what it looked like but neither of us could explain it. She reached for my hand and squeezed it, I couldn't tell if it was for confort or because of the pain.
“We should call an ambulance” I said making a decision. I had just found her and I didn't want to loose her, I wanted Essie to be part of my daughters life as well as mine. “You need to see a doctor or a specialist or somthing, whatever is going on you need help.”
"How will I explian it? How can I be sure what it is? They will think I'm crazy or I'm one of those fools from "I didn't know I was pregnant".
With her saying the word pregnant I felt we could talk more freely. "We would explian it togther you're not on your own. Lets rule some stuff out then before we call, I don't think you're constipated.”
“Maybe it's like a tumor, but how could it grow so fast? Maybe it's my appendix? Maybe it's oh I don't know how can I even be pregnant let alone this pregnant?”
"Maybe you found your love 9 months ago and part of the wish was you couldn't look pregnant till it's time" I suggested but the idea made me want to sob.
"No I love you" she said turning to face me. "That's it, I love you. Do you love me?"
It takes me a few seconds but I know the answer, "yes, oh my goodness the baby is ours".
"I found you" she exclaims "your my true love, this wasn't a curse it was a gift. Because of my wish I could have your baby."
"You are having my baby" I sit up feeling dizzy, I found my true love! I'm gonna be a mum again, my little girl is going to have a little brother or sister. "I better see if my daughter can stay at her friends for another night". I make the arrangements and explain there's a family emergancy.
"I'm your family" Essie says with a smile before letting out a long moan. "I don't feel like pushing yet, I think we gave time" she says after the contraction.
I placed my hand on her bump and started rubbing it gently in large circular motions. We both feel the feel of a small stir of tiny limbs stretching, seeking contact reaching for freedom from the cramped space that is my lovers womb.
“Should we go to the hospital?” I ask
“What do you want? I want is to do this together" she says sitting up next to me.
“No doctors, I don’t want anyone to know about this yet” part of me won't believe this is real till the baby it here. What if it's an alien or somthing else, I want to protect Essie. "Do you think you can give birth without drugs?"
"If you can do it on stage without drugs so can I, but in private" she says rubbing her belly. "I'm feeling a lot of pressure down there I don't think it will be long".
"Your waters haven't broken yet have they?" I ask trying to remember if the bathroom floor was wet when I found her.
"I don't think soooooohhhh." She closed her eyes trying to breath through it as a contraction rippled through her bump.
"That's it try and breath though it" I said trying to be comforting. I felt so helpless as she was becoming more and more uncomfortable.
I kept timing her contractions as we lined the bed with towels and she laboured in diffrent places around the flat. I googled home birth wanting to make sure her and the baby would be safe.
Each time she contracted she would reach for me and wherever I was I would rush to wrap my arms around her and comfort her and we would breath though it togther "Agh agh aghh" she moaned into my shoulder. "Hee Hee hoo" she then panted.
But this time during her contraction there was a trickle between her legs, she gasped in suprise as we both realised her waters had broke.
"Should I check you?" I asked feeling like her labour had progressed.
"Do you know how to check for dilation?" Essie asked.
"I was checking myself backstage when I gave birth" I said remembering the panic I endured.
"Go ahead" Essie said lying down and widening her legs. Just as I put a couple of fingers in her she tences and I pull them out scared I've hurt her. "Hoooooo contraction." Cece moaned in explanation, lifting her bottom off the bed and scrunching her hands and toes. "AHHH ahhh ohhhhh Ohhhhh Harmony it hurts! It hurts" she almost screams. I want to take the pain away, I have tears in my eyes.
"Please just hold me" Essie begs me lowering her torso once it's over.
I sit behind her and wrap my legs around hers, we grab each other hands and squeeze them tight. Her head rests on my shoulder, I kiss her check. She turns her head and kisses me I the lips, "I'm so glad your here".
We keep panting together and I keep checking her, Essie is doing amazing. When she's ready to push we get off the bed, and she goes into a squat. She holds me tight and I hold her close.
She starts to push taking breaks when we can, "I love you so much" I tell her. We have only know each other a day, but this baby proves Essie is my true love.
"Hooooooo hoooo I know, hooooo hooooo our baby is coming down. Hoooo hoooo I can feel it moving, uuuuuugggggggg heeeeeeeee" Essie reported. "Agh agh agh agh! Is that the head, it's coming out of me."
"It is the head, your about to give birth. You're bulging, but I can see the head" I tell her.
"OHHH Ohhhh!!" Essie moaned. "Harmonyyyyyyy"
"I'm here you amazing women" I said helping her take her dressing gown off. "Blow in and out, in and out" I recommended.
"Hee hee hee hee" Essie tried, and grabbed my hand again.
"Okay give me a big strong push" I told her.
"OHHHHHHH!" Essie moaned as her contraction ended, our baby was bulging slightly more. "I can't do this anymore" she sobbed and got out of the sqwat and closed her legs.
"No no, legs open. I believe in you, breath through the pain. Your legs need to be wider so the baby can fit. Just breath with me" I beg wishing I could take her pain.
"NNNGGGG!" Essie pushed.
"I'm so proud of you" I told her.
Essie's vaginal lips parted as more of the head emerged into the world, I knew how painful childbirth was.
"Our baby's head is coming, I see a tear drop shape" I told her sitting now between Essie's legs.
"UGGGGGGHHHH!" She groaned and moaned as she pushed.
"You're doing amazing beautiful mama, remember how long you've wanted this" I remind her.
"AGHHH AGHHH! I KNOW BUT IT HURTS IT HURTS SO MUCH" she screams bearing down.
"Deep breath in and push as hard as you can" and she does a huge push. "That's it you've crowned fully" I can she how much she is streched with the entire top of the head between her legs. "I love you my beautiful women, you are so strong".
"I want to get in the bath" Essie begged between contractions. I knew it was too late and the bath wouldn't fill in time but I would try, I ran too her bathroom and turned on both taps fully. It took a while with a few stops to push but we got to the bathroom floor, I don't know how she moved this far into labour.
She gripped the side of the bath and went back into a sqwat, the head was juting out of her.
"Keep pushing" I told her as I rubbed her back, "the head is halfway out" I promised.
"AGHH AGHH AGHHNNNNNNNGGGG NNNGGGGGG" I could see she was pushing with everything she had.
"Keep going! You're doing amazing you have to keep going!" I said holding the head ready for when the baby was born.
"AARRRRRRGGGGGGG HOOOOOOOOOO PPPPLEASE PLEASE GET IT OUT" Essie pleaded.
"It's coming baby" I say trying to reasure her "It's sliding out slowly, do what you need to do".
"AGHHHHH" Essie pushed and screamed as the head popped out after another contraction.
"The heads out" I tell her "just push out the shoulders just a couple more pushes".
"NAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHGGGGGGGGGG" she moaned and the babys shoulders both came out at once. The baby fell into my hands, I helped Essie sit down so she could hold the baby.
We sat in silence for a second listening to the baby's cry before I kissed Essie. She rocked the baby and offer him her breast, "thank you" she said softly.
I worried for a second that now she had her child would she still want me, I did already have a kid. Would that be too much baggage?
"I have a slight concern, will this happen everytime we are intimate? Because I don't think I will be able to spend the rest of my life not able to touch you like that.
I know then that I may have many childen born of true love, but I don't mind at all.

Lost and Found {3}
genre: mostly fluff, tad of angst??
requested: @tenjaehyunsehuntaemin
length: 2.1k words
pairing: Johnny Seo x Reader
summary: The best time of the week was the weekend when you can see your 4 year old niece but one close call led you to meeting a certain handsome man
Tumblr media
You’d exchanged a few text with Young Ho through the week just getting to know each other better and talking about the plans for Saturday, you found he wasn’t a teacher, in fact he was a radio host and even had his own segment called Night Night or something.
Saturday rolled around quicker then you’d been ready for, before you knew it it was 7:30pm and you were cleaning your apartment like your life depended on it, you cursed yourself for not starting sooner but you’d had class and work so you barely had time to eat. Young Ho said he would be there at 8 and you were almost finished so you began to slow down thinking you had more then enough time to just sweep the floor but you spoke too soon. Just as you finished Sun Hee knocked over the cookie bowl while trying to grab one sending crumbs and broken ceramic everywhere “Don’t move!” You said a little too loudly as Sun Hee’s lip dropped and quivered “what, no I’m not shouting at you, it’s okay, I just don’t want you to hurt yourself on the broken pieces” you panicked. Apparently this wasn’t enough to convince Sun Hee as she started to sob at the top of her lungs. You rushed over and scooped her up, checking her feet for any cuts which lucky for you was all clear, the last thing you wanted was an injured toddler and your sister on your back.
Just as you got Sun Hee sat down there was a knock at the door, SHIT he’s early! “Sun Hee baby, stop crying for a minute, I’m not mad” you stroke her arm trying to comfort her but she just cried harder. You run your hands down your face and go and open the door. Young Ho’s smile dropped when he saw your face and heard the crying from inside “oh no, what happened?” You stepped aside letting him come in “well there’s the cookie jar and I accidentally raised my voice about her not hurting herself and now this” you waved your arms about motioning to everything that was going on.
“Wow... well I guess I’ll go in, wish me luck” he laughed as he made his way to Sun Hee and of course as soon as she saw him her crying stopped and she opened her arms and ran to him.
“Oppa!! Do you have Moanna?!”
“Of course! It’s in my bag” he said picking her up and spinning her. What a snake.
You clean up the mess careful not to leave anything out that she could brake or hurt herself with, before making your way to the sofa. Young Ho had put the movie in the player and just had it on pause “everyone ready? I brought snacks too" he reached into his bag and pulled out a bunch of snacks and settled them on the table in front of the couch.
“Thanks, You didn’t have to, There’s more in the kitchen if you want anything else, I’m just gonna get changed real quick, you can start without me” he nodded and sat on the couch pressing play.
You didn’t know what to wear! You wanted to be comfortable but not sloppy but you didn’t want to dress up because it would look weird if you dressed up while watching a movie in your own house! Would he even notice what you're wearing? It’s going to be dark anyways right? You sigh and just put some sweat pants on with a plain shirt and stomp out of your room. You wanted him to have a good impression of you, the last thing you want is a cute guy thinking your a slob but from how you looked the past two encounters you guess that was already out of the the window.
You made your way back to the living room and found Sun Hee itching closer and closer to the Tv, you don’t even think she knew she was doing it, she was just that into the movie, it would be nice to be a kid again. Young Ho greeted you with a smile which you returned and you sat on the floor in from of them trying to get into the movie with Sun Hee.
“Hey” Young Ho bent down and whispered in your ear “can you pass the chips” he got closer with every word. So you hit him. In the face. With his beloved chips. You heard him laugh and whisper a thank you, it was weird how comfortable he made people around him, you didn’t know him that well yet his easy going aura just allowed you to joke around easily. He was one of those good people to hang out with.
It was around half way through the movie when his phone rang, he looked at the contact and stood up suddenly making both you and Sun Hee jump “umm, give me a sec” he rushed of into the kitchen and you heard him answer the call before he turned the corner, you shrugged it off, it was none of your business but what confused you was the look of on his face when he came back out, it was an unreadable expression.
“I really need to go” he rushed picking up his bag “I’m sorry, I’ll make it up to you” he ran his hand through his hair as you got him his coat.
“Is everything okay?” You raised an eyebrow as he followed you to the door.
“Uh yeah” he gave out a clearly fake laugh which brought your attention back to his face and he cleared his throat “yeah of course, just some stuff to do at home” he fixed his bag to his shoulder and stepped out the door you’d opened for him “I’ll text you okay? Bye Sun Hee” he shouted past you.
“Bye” Sun Hee didn’t even take her eyes of the screen.
“Yeah, I’ll give you the movie back then” you said smiling.
“Great, see ya later” he shot you a smile before jogging away.
You wanted to ask more about what happened but you didn’t want to pry in to his personal business and you figured if he wanted to tell you he would have when you asked if he was okay, so you tried to drop it but you still had the same curiosity at the back of your mind every time you spoke to him. He’d text you that night as he said he would, he apologise for leaving so abruptly and asked if he could come over again or if you wanted to go out somewhere on the Tuesday after you finished class and you said you’d love to but Sun Hee was with her presents during the week and that’s when he dropped something you didn’t know if you were ready for. "That’s fine, it can just be the two of us this time lol :)" There wasn’t anything wrong with that of course, you weren’t going to be one of those girls who automatically thought the guy was asking them out, the thing was now that you look back at it you’d never been alone with Young Ho. Would it be awkward? You doubt he’d let it be but you, you were the definition of awkward when you’re on your own. Either way in the end you ended up agreeing, might as well test the waters, plus Young Ho seemed like a great person and you didn’t have too many friends that were free to hang out outside of classes and your best friend Min Seo was on vacation so you hoped this would be the perfect opportunity to make a new friend.
Classes couldn’t have been worse these past two days, you were sure all your professors had made a deal to assign homework all at once making it due the same week. You swear they thought students had nothing else to do with their lives then to take and study their classes. You felt overwhelmed with the amount of work you’d been given and how fast you were expected to do it, but the worst part is your brain had found this the perfect time to just... lag, you just couldn’t get the assignments started and it was frustrating beyond belief at this rate you knew you wouldn’t be able to finish the assignments and go out on the later with Young Ho. It was already 3 pm and you’d written a single paragraph and you were 70% sure it had nothing to do with the science assignment you were trying to write, so you decided you had to text him and say you couldn’t make it.
(Y/N) - “Heyy, I’m so sorry but I don’t think I’ll be able to come later, I have a lot of work to do this week :(“
Young Ho - “Ugh I get it, I hate my class because of all the work they set lol, what are you working on?"
(Y/N) - "Science, biology isn’t my strong point and I have major brain lag atm"
Young Ho - "You take biology? I used to do it but changed courses, want some help?"
(Y/N) - "Since I’m texting you and not doing it, I guess I do need help if you’re offering but if you just distract me I’ll fight"
Young Ho - "Wow so aggressive, if you keep scaring me I can’t help you (y/n)..”
(Y/N) - "Shut up, you coming or not?"
Young Ho - "I get off work in an hour, see you then ;)"
You’d managed about three sentences and a sandwich when you heard the knock on the door where you met with the same goofy smile as always, Young Ho was dressed in a white shirt tucked into his black skinny jeans, wow, must be nice to look effortlessly good in simple clothes. Can’t relate.
You let him in and resumed eating your sandwich
“Wow I know you said you had brain lag but is this it?” He asked sitting next to you and looking at your laptop.
“Hmm mm” you hummed slightly embarrassed “ I really don’t know where to go with this” you out taking another bite. You felt his eyes on you so you turned returned the gaze “... want some?” You push your plate over to him
“mmm (y/n)’s half half eaten sandwich” he chuckled sarcastically still taking the sandwich and taking a bite though “thanks” he said while chewing, You just rolled your eyes knocking him with your elbow
“Are you going to help me now?” You sighed
“Oh, right, show me the task” you nodded and handed him the folder.
He skimmed over the folder raising his eye brows and nodding every so often letting an “ohhh” escape at the end “right so it’s easier then it sounds, this bit” he points to the folder “is talked about in this bit” he said flipping a few pages in your text book and pointing “and this in this” he continues pointing out everywhere you had to read and things you needed to include and before you knew it you’d begun actually making progress.
It was 8:45 when you’d completely finished In between snack brakes and chatting but it was one down and two to go but this was one big weight of of your chest. You lay back against your couch with a sigh
“It’s over, it’s really over” Young Ho lay back mimicking your actions
“And it’s all thanks to me” he laughed
“Sadly, I can’t argue that, I owe you one”
“Don’t worry, about it, it was better then doing nothing” you let out a yawn and slid down the sofa
“You’re tired already?” He laughed “it is getting late” he pushed himself of the sofa and picked up the blanket folded on the counter and threw it over you, you raised an eyebrow and he just shrugged “I’ll see you later, if you need any more help just text me” he said putting on his coat and walking to the door “don’t forget to lock up” he shouted before you heard the door shut.
Spending time alone wasn’t as bad as you’d thought, it was actually pretty nice.

Process and wip images for A House That Holds Long Limbs (Part 3)
Previous process and wip documentation: Part 1 / Part 2
Read the pages for part 3 here (full complete version will be linked from YYH North Bound master post)
In Parts 1 and 2 I went through the transitions between idea, script, thumbnails and final art in quite a bit of detail. This time I’ll share script and thumbnails and point out some of the biggest changes, and then talk about how I scan and clean the final artwork.
Script and thumbnails
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Biggest changes:
Dialogue changes every-freaking-where. Changes in word choice, moving things around to make the dialogue flow better, rewriting to make things flow better up to the umpteenth hour (i.e., right when I’m inking).
Page 24 “It is enough to know the letter has been delivered” - this thought has been transplanted onto the next page. I was also running out of space on each page for so many wordy words. Looking back now I’d probably like to move Hokushin’s “I can read it, not that she needs to know that” earlier in the sequence of panels, but it’s too late and whatever.
Page 25 split into two pages because 1) the dialogue started growing on the first of the 2 pages and I wanted to give more emphasis to the woman dropping her “tee hee I’m matchmaking” bomb and Hokushin’s “lol get me out of here” expression.
The last page with Raizen did not exist in the script or the thumbnails. I tacked it on at the last second because the previous change increased the page count to 9. I’m drawing 2 pages up on an 11x8.5 sheet of paper (so each page is about 5.5 x 8.5), so this meant I was left facing an empty page. I impulsively threw in a “meanwhile, Raizen’s shenanigans” for fun.
As an aside, this level of dialogue is what I was anticipating the hypothetical “let’s separate Hokushin and Raizen with some random NPC offering a job” scenario to involve (see Part 1 process and wip discussion). You can see why I was so eager to ditch that idea and find something simpler and more efficient.
I feel like "I was (too) careless!" is such a stock (shounen) manga phrase. Therefore I must work in "Seems like I underestimated [...whatever thing they underestimated]" and "Impossible!!" into upcoming parts of the story lol.
Inking
Part way through inking I actually ran out of ink in my new cartridge. I had started the comic with 0.3mm Muji black pen, and it ran out a while back. I switched to 0.4mm (because that’s all they had in stock at the time)... and then actually ran out of the ink part way through on these pages. @atorier lent me a 0.3mm refill so these pages mix both thicknesses in the art. I can’t really tell the difference though... can you?
Part 3 was super fun to illustrate because it’s 90% subtle facial expressions, one of my favourite things to draw. The downside is WAY TOO MANY WORDS BEING SQUEEZED IN EVERYWHERE. I’ve never been very good at managing my speech bubbles - drawing them, positioning them, and fitting words in them. I never give them the time needed for proper planning and I often write rather impatiently, as if I am jotting down a note, instead of carefully lettering each word. They’re simply very sloppy, which results in a lot of mistakes...
It used to be that when I made a mistake in the later stages of the art (mainly, inking) I’d cry and throw everything out because I’m a complete failure, this is all worthless, etc. Nowadays I’m like uhhh... #@^&^#$!!! Oh well. Depending on the mistake I still have moments of I’M A COMPLETE FAILURE, but then I just redo it on the side or add a note to myself to fix it on the computer for the final version. Here you can see a whole bunch of mistakes around lettering and placement of things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this is just to make it more legible. It’s still ugly lol. (That’s why I use a font for my webcomic...)
Scanning / editing
Long Limbs is drawn in black and white which makes it a hell of a lot easier to scan/clean/prep final art. I use an old Canoscan LIDE110. I’ve upgraded once or twice but always to another Canoscan (basically whatever the latest version of this series is). It’s a cheap workhorse and lots of other scanners use Canon’s scanning technology so it’s always suited my purposes very well.
For black and white lineart, I scan at 600 dpi black and white. These are my settings as they show up in the default scanner software:
Tumblr media
For clarification, the only parts I really pay attention to/change is Color Mode (black and white) and output resoluton to 600 dpi. Most of the other stuff was already calculated or set.
Industry practice is generally 1200 dpi for black and white line art, with 600 being a “if your computer can’t handle it and is gonna blow up... this is sufficient”. I rarely bother going up to 1200 mainly because I don’t usually have applications where I need it for output (this comic is not intended for print, for instance. And even if I ever do someday print it for whatever reason, it’s not likely to be bigger than a small comic). Scanning in black and white mode also conveniently kills most of the pencil lines I still have left so that post-scan cleanup work is minimized to a degree.
Here’s a shot of the page that was scanned.
Tumblr media
Oh god look at all the mistakes that need to be fixed hahaha.
On the computer, I crop the individual pages and save them separately. Then I blow up to 100% and start selecting/deleting unwanted dust/artifacts/dots etc. Sometimes I also just use the eraser for cleaning fine details, but select+delete is faster for large patches.
Tumblr media
This is also the opportunity to make corrections. To be honest, there’s not much retouching on these pages because I am lazy and trying to get them out as quickly as possible, so it’s mostly getting rid of artifacts, a few stray lines from ink smearing if I smudged or erased before it was fully dry, cleaning the shapes of a few letters to make them more legible, deleting errors and pasting the fixes over where the errors used to be, and any really stupid mistakes I’ve made - like drawing the fixes to Hokushin’s hitatare in Part 2. For redrawing/adding new parts on the computer, since the art is in black and white mode at such a high dpi, almost any brush will work great and look indistinguishable from the scanned lines when scaled down.
I save a high res TIFF for my archives. Then I convert to greyscale (better for maintaining details when I resize, since black and white can drop things that aren’t 100% black or white), and resize to 72 dpi at 700 pixels wide. 72 dpi has long been the standard for on-screen viewing - nowadays screens can display higher resolutions (e.g., retina) but this looks fine to me so I’ve long stuck with good ol’ 72. I arbitrarily picked the 700 dpi width - it seemed a good balance of “not too small” and “looks big enough to let you see the art nicely” on Tumblr. Below are my settings to resize:
Tumblr media
Again, the above I mostly only pay attention to width and resolution. All the other stuff is mostly default or autocalculated. All my pages are different heights, which I don’t really care about since I’m just posting them on tumblr and pixiv. Finally I save as JPG for posting.
 Ta da!

The Sloppy Olympics
Greetings, young readers! Welcome to the marvelous world of Soundful Stories, with the Paradise Critters! Read along as they get themselves into hot water yet again! Now, keep in mind: Every time you hear this sound,
*SPLAT*
that means it's time to turn the page! Ready? Don't forget the sound!
Karl's Paradise in
The Sloppy Olympics!
Story by Karl Rodriguez himself!
*SPLAT*
It was a warm summer afternoon, and there went Junior, trying out his new rollerblades. This was the first time he's ever been far away from the kingdom, let alone the town. Just after he asked permission from Karl if he could go for a little skate and explore the paradise, the king entrusted him with three important rules.
"1) Always wear your helmet and pads at all costs. You wouldn't want to get any severe injuries. 2) Make sure you ride on a road clear of civilians, or man-made objects. They could get hurt, and so could you. 3) Absolutely never talk to any strangers. If you see an adult you don't know acting suspicious, report back to me."
So far, everything was sailing smoothly, and Junior hasn't run into one ounce of trouble yet. That is until he spotted something shiny up in the sky. It looked like a silver frisbee, but bigger, with flashy lights, and it appeared to be coming down. Junior pushed more wheel into his rollerblades as he decided to have himself a look-see.
*SPLAT*
The frisbee then landed itself upon the grassy plains, and a hatch opened. Junior quickly hid behind a tree, continuing to watch. "Unbelievable," Junior whispered. Out of the frisbee came funny looking green men, of a strange exotic race he's never seen before. They looked the same, but wore different colored jumpsuits to identify one another. The magenta suit green man took out some floating sphere, which projected beams that circled the area.
"There is a stalker in our presence! Whoever you are, show yourself!"
Junior didn't hesitate to come out of hiding.
"M-My name is Junior, from the paradise kingdom, and I'm not a stalker! I was just giving my skates a spin, when I suddenly spotted your flying disk! Just got a little curious, that's all! Who are you guys, and where did you come from?"
Something about the woolly mammoth's naivety had interest the funny green men, especially the mention of the paradise kingdom. Oh boy, that Junior. Hasn't he heed King Karl's warning about talking to strangers?
"Young earthling, are you saying ץ๏ย ๔๏ภ'Շ кภ๏ฬ ฬђ๏ ฬє คгє?"
*SPLAT*
Junior shook his head as a gesture for "No." The green men then smirked deviously, so sinister. The golden suit green man did all the explaining.
"Why, young earthling, we are the Outers, and we traveled all the way from the planet Tribble-Trubble to make a settlement with our old companion Karl, which you now call 'your highness!' We knew each other from the great galaxy war!"
"Woah! King Karl fought in a war?!"
"Fought in it? Heck, he led our team! It was his leadership that brought us to victory! The galaxy has been at peace since then! And boy, look at him now! Keeping a whole land balanced on the tip of his fingers! Bless that man!"
"Yeah, he's a pretty great, fair leader. (Up until he tells me to be in bed by eight.)"
"I see, I see."
"So, what is this settlement?"
The gold suit Outer told Junior to hold tight for a moment, then dashed inside the ship. Junior waited with the rest of the Outers. It was only after a few minutes he heard a brrh, click, clatter, and clunk coming from the ship. The gold suit Outer came out with a slip of paper.
*SPLAT*
"We'd like to sell a piece of land to the dear king! It's a very old land, and has not been inhabited for ages! We tried making deals with other agencies, but then we realized only a sharp mind such as Karl's would know what use to make of an empty land! Just have him put his signature here! Oh, and you can't tell him that it came from us! We want to surprise our longtime chum! Just say it's from 'a very close yet distant friend!'"
The heavy hairs that tingled on Junior's schnozzle made him feel like this wasn't right, but his gut told him that they could be trusted. They looked friendly, and they knew the king! Besides, Junior thought about what that empty land could be made into: An amusement part, a new baseball field, or a highly advanced playground with real working mini space shuttles!
*SPLAT*
After waving farewell, Junior took off on his rollerblades, heading back to the kingdom. He took the contract with him. However, as soon as the woolly mammoth was out of sight, the three Outers joined together for a laugh. This wasn't a funny, humor type laugh.
"What a sucker!" "What a nincompoop!" "What a gold mine!"
Junior went as fast as he-/////////////////////////////////

"ᴴᵃ ʰᵃ ʰᵃᵎ ᵂᵉ'ˡˡ ˢᵉᵉ, Junior. We'll see."
Taking his word for it, Karl didn't bother reading the contract, and just signed off his name at the bottom with his feathered pen.
*SPLAT*
Suddenly, colorful neon dots had transmitted right in the throne room, levitating in the air. In a matter of seconds, those lights began to take form of three figures, which Junior had run into earlier. King Karl rose up from his throne, and shouted their names. Well, looks like Karl does know them. But it didn't appear he was happy to see them.
"Captain Nebula," King Karl shouted with calm anger, "What are you doing here of all places?"
"Oh," Captain Nebula, the gold suit Outer, said in his most innocent act, "We're just dropping by for a little favor!"
"By selling a piece of land to me?"
"Greatly mistakened, old friend! We're not selling land to you! You're selling land to us! Which you already did!"
*SPLAT*
Karl quickly looked over the contract. Oh dear, Captain Nebula was right. He just sold the entire paradise in the hands of the Outers! Before Karl could tear the contract up, the captain swiped it from his hands.
"It's been a pleasure doing business with you! And we owe our gratitude to this young earthling! The one who calls himself Junior!"
Junior, feeling like he's been played for a fool, was embarrassed about the whole situation. He hid behind the throne just after the captain mentioned him. However, King Karl was too smart for him, and demanded they have a talk.
"Junior, what did I tell you about talking to strangers?"
"Don't talk to them? Report to you right away if there's any suspicious behavior?"
"Exactly. How were they even less strange to you?"
"Well, the thing is, they seemed really nice, and claimed to have known you."
*SPLAT*
"Oh, they know me alright, Junior. We have been enemies for centuries! They wanted this paradise as their own piece of Earth! Before you came along, we were at war for it! It didn't last very long. When the Outers realized how outnumbered they were, they eventually retreated. Now, looks like they're back, and more clever than ever."
"Oh, so there really was a war!"
Things were already taking a turn for the worse.
"Let the house warming begin!"
Captain Nebula started to signal home, and then fifty saucers took a landing! A hundred thousand Outers invaded the paradise! More than Karl could remember! They began to mess up space, run folks out of their jobs, and take stuff from little children! It was a nightmare come true to the king.
"What do you have to say for yourself, Junior?" Questioned Karl.
Junior took a gulp, then answered,
"Grounded for a month?"
*SPLAT*
King Karl called a royal meeting at The Happy Belly diner, with his best subjects: Barkstone, Van Goose, LabRat, Saxxo, Mama LongLegs, Fins, Yum-Yum, Junior, and Slouch. He usually throws royal meetings at the castle, but the Outers evicted him from his own home. Everyone was listening in on Karl's plan, except Slouch, who was trying to catch up on some much needed rest.
"What are we gonna do now, my subjects?" Asked Karl, "̷͙̅T̷͂ͅh̶̘̽i̴̋͜ŝ̵̺ ̵̬̿i̸̋͜s̴̘̓ ̴̝͒o̴̯̽ȗ̸̜r̴̟͝ ̴̝́ĥ̸͍ỏ̷͚m̸̙̈ë̸͍́.̷͈͊ ̴̨̋Ö̴͈́ủ̶͈ṙ̷̟ ̵͉͂h̴̛̫ò̶͚m̵̨͝è̷̦ ̵̤̀ẗ̷̤h̷̘̒è̶͓y̸̩͊'̵̗̀v̶̺̍e̶̺͋ ̵̪͑ṯ̵̛a̸̙͊k̴͉̋e̸̤̋n̵̾͜ ̴͖͛o̷͔̓v̶̱̚e̴̬͘ṛ̵̂.̷̖͌ ̶͎̈́W̴̪̾ê̸͔ ̶͕͝c̷͖̒a̸͌͜n̸͈̕'̴̻͐ẗ̷̠́ ̴̱̎j̸̗͂u̵̖͛s̵̪͆t̸̗͋ ̶͇̋m̷̘ö̷̙́v̶̧̉e̷͕͆!̶̡̅ ̴̯̾Ǎ̸͓l̵̟̓l̶̮̈ ̶̧̿ọ̷̈f̷͎͗ ̴̰̽u̶̩͝s̵̖͑ ̷̫͛w̴̜͑e̸̳͋r̶͖͝e̸̜̓ ̸̳͐b̵̯̈́ö̴̲́r̸̬̈́n̴̟͊ ̵̥̅ä̵͕́n̶̥̋d̷̠͠ ̸͇͊r̴͉̋ā̷̪ì̴̢s̵̗̄e̴̦͆d̴͔̾ ̸̬͗h̵̭̐e̷̩̍r̵͕͑ḙ̶̄!̴͍̉"̵̢͝
The Critters then took a ponder. And they each pondered, and pondered, until an idea sprout.
"I could make them all disappear!" Suggested Barkstone, "But with how many there are, mercy me, it'll probably be done in about 2 to 3 years."
"I could play them a super fine, groovy lullaby to put them all to sleep. Then we'll stuff them back into their saucers for home." Suggested Saxxo. "Fat chance, amigo. If anything we know about the Outers, they never go to sleep. They're the reason why I can't have a peaceful goodnight's rest!" Slouch awakened, just to respond.
"Why don't we all pitch in, deliver a phone call to each and every Outer, and tell them that their refrigerators are running! Hee hee hee hee! That will send them home in a rush!" Suggested Fins. "Now, that's just silly." Said Van Goose. "Okay! Tell them Prince Albert's in a can instead! Ha ha ha ha ha!"
*SPLAT*
"Why don't we try a negotiation operation? I'm sure what there is to their liking, it'll get our home back!" Yum-Yum made a fairly good point, which Karl sought interest in.
"I could've had thought of that myself!" Said Barkstone.
Taking one of his subjects' advice, he paid a visit to Captain Nebula at the place that used to be his castle. Nebula wasn't easy to drive a hard bargain with, so Karl got on his knees, and begged. Nebula was so flattered, he then cominced with the negotiation.
"Alright, 'your highness,' you amused me enough. If you want your precious land so badly, you're gonna have to compete for it!"
"Compete? As in play a game?"
"Yes! It's part of Outers tradition when making monumental bargains!"
"What kind of game will we be partaking in?"
"This isn't an ordinary game to foreigners like yourself! We call it The Sloppy Olympics!"
"The Sloppy Olympics? What is that?"
*SPLAT*

Critters have put their time and effort training for the Sloppy Olympics.
Yum-Yum fixed healthy meals and snacks, to keep them energized.
"Come get your rice cakes and bean curd burritos! Fresh from the broiler!"
Mama LongLegs put the gang up for dance lessons, to make their bodies more agile.
"1, 2, 3, 4! 1, 2, 3, 4! Come on, troops! Twirl faster if you want to save your country!"
LabRat asked trivia questions to exercise their knowledge.
"Okay! So a train leaves Rome at 4:54 am, averaging 88 miles per hour. Another train headed in the same direction leaves Rome at 5:45 am, averaging 108 miles per hour. To the nearest minute, at what time will the second train overtake the first train?"
"Ummm... The time they crash into each other?"
Everyone seemed to be productive. All except poor lazy Slouch. Coach Karl talked to him.
*SPLAT*
"Slouch, you can't keep sleeping on us like this."
"No worries, Double K. I'm just getting plenty of rest."
"I can plainly see that. But you shouldn't take this Sloppy Olympics for granted. You're our strongest player, and we'll need you. We can't have you falling asleep on this big day."
"I try not to, Karl. I really do try. But I can't help feeling tired-////////////////////////////////

They really had no right taking away the paradise. Humans: A race of genocide, greed, and heartlessness. They knew how much this show meant to me, but I betcha that they really didn't give a fuck. They probably didn't give a fuck about the young fans. I KNOW there are fans! The ones who enjoyed the show must've felt the way I felt. Escape to a faraway land, surrounded by cute critters, that treat you like family. They all had their differences, and their ups 'n downs, but they always learned to cooperate in the end. The critters were loving, and flawed at the same time.
These humans in our reality are more than flawed. They're problematic. Who do you think started those wars? Polution sure as hell didn't start on its own! Our race is about cruelty, and neglect for the weak. Don't you wish you could get away from it all, and make your own world? And if they take it away from you, make them pay.
Imagine you're an only child, with a disfunctional home life. I wasn't exactly close to my parents. Mom divorced at least four times, and I don't know if she's still with her 5th one. My step fathers were frankly kind to me, but some of them tend to get really aggressive whenever I made them angry. I suspect Mom only married them for their money. Never liked them, no matter how good their gifts were. I never liked my mother either. Freakin' cunt. Yes, she was kind as well, like any mother would be. She just had some knacks that drove me off the wall.
Mom always started arguments with my stepdads. Over money, accusing them of two-timing, and not being helpful enough around the house. It scared the hell out of me. She also nagged, a lot. Nagged me for innocently forgetting to clean up after myself. Nagged me for watching too much TV. Nagged me for no reason. Nag nag nag! The worst case to list is that she expects me to treat people how I want to be treated, even if they're an asshole. Even the most nicest humans can be dumb.
As I grew older, I got out more, and learned how rotten human nature can be. I did have a few friends in my youth, but only have I used them to not make myself look like a loner, to this race of poor judgement. My real friends were the ones on TV. The Banana Splits, H.R. Puff N Stuff, and those Muppets. I love puppet costume character shows. More than cartoons. They felt so real to me, looked like they took place in another universe free of hassels. I wanted to have friends just like them.
So I made them. Don't care about the actors. They can all go to hell. However, without them, my Critters wouldn't have any life. I'm taking them, enclosing us away from the world, and kill the inferior race who dare to cross us.

In the excitement of their victory, the Critters picked up Slouch and gave him a spiritual lift! He saved their home, and from repeating the Olympics all over again! Speaking of home, the defeated Outers went into their saucers, flying back to Tribble-Trubble! Slouch waved the golden cup in the air as a goodbye.
"Adiós! Fly safe now!"
Junior made a vow to never talk to any strangers again, no matter how kind they appear.
"I think there's a lesson for you too, Karl!"
"What might that be?"
"Make sure you read a contract before signing it!"
Karl's face blushed red. I guess that him and Junior were both behind the trouble. The tribble trouble!
The End.
