Ok okay but how does the VARIA spend christmas being the italian bitches they are living in a catholic country? Do they just IGNORE zhat christmas is happening? Is christmas actually a busy time because people wanna get someone killed for christmas/the new year so they all gotta do overtime like stressed store clerks? Is ANYONE going to church? Are any of them maybe just nor catholic and dont celebrate christmas in the first place? Is lussuria forcing a secret santa? I NEED TO KNOW YOUR TAKE

I fucking love thinking about Christmas with the Varia. Love it so much I’ve actually written countless headcanons on this, full fics on this, all quite a bit far back in the past though, so it was really great to come back to this! I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did!

Okay, so first off, I don’t believe that all of the Varia are Italian. It’s part of canon that Bel can’t reveal his actual nationality because of the havoc it would create among nations, but I do think he’s foreign royalty and I’ve always pretty strongly headcanoned Levi as Latino American. The Varia recruits from all around the world and I think that not all of them come from places where Christmas is traditionally celebrated and those that do come from Christmas-celebrating places do bring a mixing pot of Christmas traditions.

I will say that I don’t think many of the Varia members are practicing Catholics. Some might hold the Catholic faith in their own way or observe other religious beliefs (I don’t know why but I do think Lussuria dabbles, on and off, in Wicca and holds an interest in Hoodoo), but practicing...not by a long shot. Every part of their life’s flies against most of the strongly held tenants of Christianity-based faiths. I do think Lussuria really loves the idea of Christmas church services and church Christmas pageants/plays, and he definitely tries to rope the others into going with him, just because it’s so delightfully Christmasy, but it’s not because of any strongly held religious beliefs he has. Squalo is the only one I honestly headcanon as having any interest in attending Christmas mass, but he prefers to do so alone, blending into the crowd.

Xanxus hates Christmas. Absolutely detests it with every fiber of his being, though he, of course, expects all the Christmas gifts. Other than that, people learn quickly to leave him alone during the Christmas season, which puts him in an even worse mood than usual. He spends most of the Christmas season getting piss-ass drunk and avoiding going too much outside his rooms, where Lussuria’s Christmas obsession reigns supreme, or taking most of the harder missions as a way to blow off steam. Because Xanxus does snag most of the missions (and clears them quicker than anyone else in the Varia), the rest of the Varia members do have a slower than normal workload during the Christmas season.

Everyone buys Xanxus Christmas gifts. Plural. Even if they don’t personally celebrate Christmas, they buy him the gifts. It’s the same line of reasoning as to why people used to sacrifice gifts to the gods, honestly – if they do, they feel they’ll be safe. That being said, Bel puts almost no effort into the gift he gives, Squalo gives too practical of gifts, Lussuria’s gifts are always gaudy in their wrapping, but Levi…Levi spends months selecting just the right gifts for his boss.

Squalo doesn’t really like Christmas. He’d be fine with mostly not celebrating it, though Lussuria and the others really don’t give him much choice and even he’ll admit it’s not absolutely horrible. Christmas is just…too peace on early, goodwill to men feeling for him though, too slow-paced and merry and he tries to get out of as many of Lussuria’s Christmas ‘traditions’ as he possibly can. That being said, he’s not throwing things, like his boss does, every time someone so much as utters the words ‘merry Christmas’ or anything.

Christmas stresses Levi out to insane amounts because he really is very much a perfectionist and he wants every Christmas to be picture perfect. Both him and Lussuria are the two Varia members the most into Christmas, with Levi being the one who feels the stress of that time of year the most.

Bel just wants gifts and candy and treats. He really doesn’t give two flying fucks about the holiday as long as Santa shows up with what he’s asked for. Speaking of Santa, he still believes and still waits up…mostly because he wants to see if he can go toe to toe with Santa. I mean, Santa’s this magical being, he should be a good opponent, right? And Bel kind of wonders, being a magical being, what Santa’s blood would look like.

As mentioned, Lussuria…Christmas is one of his favourite things of all times. It’s his absolute favourite holiday. He’s the type who, once Halloween is done, plans this year’s Christmas and he really adores the traditional ideas of Christmas and all the related activities that go along with it, just one of those Christmas’s that seem like Norman Rockwell would paint a picture of it. He decorates the Varia’s base every year, helps plan Christmas dinner, tries to organize all these  ‘fun’ activities with the other Varia members, and definitely insists on every one of the core Varia members (excluding Xanxus, because not even Lussuria is going to be brave enough to try that one) to gather around the Christmas tree Christmas morning to open gifts together. He handmakes Christmas ornaments (and has roped the other Varia members into doing it with him) and he personally hand-sewed and embroidered the Varia member’s stockings.

what christmas tradition would you most like to do with jure?

I didn't know if you meant Christmas as the holiday in general or just the Christmas day, so I did the first one :)

I couldn't think of any special tradition so I went with some more classic ones here (but maybe people outside Spain don't do them and they think they're interesting idk hhzisnsjx)

‌The New Year's Eve Chimes (is that the word for "campanadas"?)

Basically, on New Year's Eve, when the clock is about to strike 12am, we have the tradition of eating 12 grapes (one for each of the bells, 1 second apart each), which represent the 12 months of the year and it is said that it'll give us luck in the new year

It's really funny to see people trying to swallow 12 grapes in 12 seconds and trying not to choke on them (just saying lol), so I think it would be fun to see him try it

It may seem easy if you've never tried it, but trust me, many people can't do it (I always do tho 😌)

‌See the Three Wise Men Parade

On the afternoon of January 5th we have these "cabalgatas" (something similar to a parade but not quite) with several floats that go around the town/city. In these floats there are people dressed as the Three Wise Men (+ many children and people helping of course) and basically what they do is throw candy and toys/balls/small things so people can catch them

I'd love to go out with him to see the floats and try to get lots of candy. We could use my grandpa's old tactic of taking an open umbrella and turning it upside down so that all the candy falls inside (leaving some for the kids obviously). Would they call us childish? Probably. Would either of us care? Nope

I wanted to show some pics but this is all I could find (they're usually so beautiful from up close but you can't really see them well here)

‌Eat the "Roscón de Reyes"

On January 6th, we eat the "roscón de reyes", which usually looks something like this:

The interesting thing is that inside the cream there are 2 things hidden: a little figurine and a bean (as you can see in the photo). The person who finds the figurine in their piece is crowned "king" and gets to keep the plastic crown. On the other hand, the person who finds the bean must pay for the roscón.

Just imagine Jure's face if he finds the figurine and gets to put on the crown 🥹. And if not, at least he could eat the roscón, we all know he's got a sweet tooth

‌Bonus: Bake cookies and watch Christmas movies

It's not really something I do every year, so I wouldn't consider it a tradition, but last year my friends and I met up at a friend's house to make cookies and we had so much fun!

You know, being in our pajamas, making cookie dough together while telling stories and laughing and singing christmas songs, but not without throwing a little flour at each other (and maybe some chocolate chips too), making shapes for the cookies and decorating them however we want. I would make one in the shape of a kitty for him as a surprise :3

Then we can play some board games by the fireplace while we wait for the cookies to cool, and finally, we can watch a Christmas movie (or any kind of movie, I don't care) while we cuddle under a warm blanket and eat cookies :)

• Dr. Scott White is on duty on Christmas Eve and has to stay longer than expected due to a patient’s disturbing test result during sleep monitoring.

• When he can finally leave the clinic, he’s both tired and concerned. His young patient shows very unusual sleeping patterns.

• He arrives at your apartment after midnight and uses his own key to unlock the door.

• Your lack of response to his texts makes him certain that you have already gone to bed.

• He finds you sleeping on the couch, tucked in under your favorite blanket; the ridiculously expensive, but insanely soft one you bought as a treat for yourself when you got a promotion.

• The Netflix menu stares silently at him when he reaches for the remote.

• In the corner stands a recently decorated tree and the many lights spread a warm atmosphere. White and silver baubles hang from its branches and the room smells faintly of forest.

• He can see traces of gift wrapping on the table. The roll of green paper with golden stars rests on the floor while scissors and a wax kit lie abandoned together on your side table.

• Scott smiles, knowing how much you enjoy making pretty gifts with old-fashioned seals. He, on the other hand, is happy if he can fold the edges so it doesn’t look like a five-year-old wrapped the gift.

• Without a word he bends down to place a tender kiss on your cheek. Your eyelids flutter, and when he whispers your name, you smile in your sleep.

• He scoops you up from your couch and carries you to the bedroom. You wrap your arms around his neck and bury your face in the crook of his neck.

• While in bed you both undress and after a short detour in the bathroom, he pulls the large duvet over both of your tired bodies. You fall back to sleep in his arms.

• On Christmas Day, Scott wakes before you and decides to bring breakfast back to bed. He wants to spoil you since he ruined your plans for Christmas Eve by working.

• You wake to the smell of coffee and toast. Scott even bothered to make fresh orange juice, and as you carefully eat in bed, he apologizes once more for being so late.

• You smile and assure him that it’s fine. You know that if you want a future with this man, you have to accept his work and how it sometimes affects his personal life.

• After breakfast, you decide to take a walk down to the park. It snowed just a few nights ago, but it has been cold for weeks, and the large pond in the park is popular among skaters. Volunteers clear part of the frozen pond from snow by hand every year, a true sign of devotion.

• The Christmas stall by the pond is open, and Scott buys warm chestnuts and hot cocoa.

• When you return home, he fills your large tub with perfectly tempered water and bubbles.

• You both fit in the tub, and you sit in front of Scott, resting your back against his chest.

• Soft Christmas music seeps from the speaker in the living room. The playlist you prepared in November is finally being used.

• Scott washes your upper body, but soon you long for another type of touch.

• He cups your breasts, and you feel how his caress changes. You welcome his hands everywhere he can reach, and when your needs grow stronger, you get up and lead him to your bed.

• When you’re both satisfied, he holds you close and whispers warm words of love in your ear.

• You promised to make an appearance at your parents’ dinner and to bring Scott. It’s your first Christmas together, and even if he has met your parents before, it still feels special.

• Together you eat a quick lunch, just enough to survive until dinner.

• You let Scott drive, since he needs his car in case of an emergency at the clinic. The snowy landscape frames the holiday picture perfectly.

• Your mother’s Christmas dinner is always way too ambitious. When you look around the large table, you feel blessed to have all these amazing people in your life.

• Scott squeezes your hand under the table, as a reminder of his strong feelings for you. He loves being a part of your big family since his own is far away. Maybe next year you can both go there.

• Later you sit by the fire, exchanging gifts and cuddling on your parent’s couch.

• The beautiful bracelet you admired at the jeweler rests on your wrist. Scott is far too generous sometimes, but you admit it fits perfectly to your dress.

• Eggnog is served in high glasses, homemade sweets occupy a large part of the table, and Scott has his arm around you.

• You rest your head against his shoulder and meet your mother’s gaze on the other side of the room. She smiles back at you.

• In Scott's arms, you always feel safe. There is no other place in the world you would rather be.

OMG OMG OMG YESSSS!! A NANBAKA ASKKKK!! TYSM SQUIGGILY!! This show is honestly soooo underrated and I love getting to talk about these boys any chance I get! Also gonna tag @stopiteatpopcorn since they're the one that introduced me to the show in the first place!!^^

Uno: Literally the only decent wrapper in the whole cell. Between both his impressive coordination skills as a gambler and his passion for looking good, he always puts a lot of effort into his wrapping and it shows. Likes to rub his superior wrapping abilities in the others' faces a lot lol.

Rock: It's not... Bad, per say? Just, a little on the rougher side of things. Like, it looks fine, but you can definitely tell that his aren't quite as straight as Uno's are, and he also has a bad habit of ripping the paper on accident so to avoid having to rewrap it, he'll just tape another piece over the hole and say it's done pfft.

Nico: You know how it looks whenever a young child is wrapping a gift for the very first time? That super sloppy lump that looks more like a balled up piece of trash than a gift? Yeah. That's how Nico wraps gifts. Poor Uno has been trying for years to help him improve but it's no use. He always ends up getting ahead of himself because he's excited. It's ok though. Atleast he tries?^^`

Jyugo: Straight up can't wrap. The one time he tried, he ended up having to be rescued by Hajime because he somehow got so tangled up in the wrapping paper and tape that he got stuck and couldn't get out of it. Ever since that incident, Seitarou just brings him gift bags to use. The others still laugh at him for this.

Sorry for not getting this out for Christmas, but I hope it's still cute enough with Hera for you!

Hera looked at you, her head tilted to the side slightly at your words. A red hat with white fluff around the rim was dangling from her mouth by the white fluff ball at the top. After looking at you for a minute, Hera heard something familiar from behind her that made her floofy tail start wagging. Hera's head tilted backwards to look up above to look at who had walked up behind her.

It was her Papa!

"Haha hey Hera, where'd you get that Nondescript Winter Holiday hat? I thought I put them all away." Jaune crouched down a little behind her. Not as much as he used to because she was much bigger now, but still enough to still need to rest a knee on the ground to be comfortable. "Were you hiding it to try and keep it hehe?"

Hera spun around and faced her Papa, the red hat swung wildly in her mouth as she did. She pushed her snout forwards a little, gesturing the hat towards her Papa. Jaune laughed and gently grabbed the hat. "Or did you just happen to find it? Hehe, well either way, I hope you don't mind if I take it for now while I clean up the room?"

Hera opened her mouth and let her Papa's hand take it.

"Thanks girl, I appreciate it. And thanks for helping me clean up last night's New Years Eve party."

Hera barked in an affirmative way. Then she turned and went back to walking around the dorm, picking up some pieces of trash like empty cups and things that were left behind from last night's party. She carefully walked between the sleeping of all her aunties and uncles on the floor and furniture. She then carried the trash back over an open trash bag.

She did indeed have a Merry Christmas last week, as well as a fun party with her family last night, but now it was the time to cleans it all up. Even though Papa was happy to do it by himself after he woke up, Hera also wanted to help out since she was a good girl!

Also she hoped that her Papa would let her keep her soft red hat if she helped him!

Of course I can, my lovely anon! Thank you so much for sending in such a cute request, especially since I really am a sucker for anything Christmasy!

Okay, but mistletoe and Yata?? Not a match made in heaven. If anyone is stupid enough to hang it at the Christmas party, though there are several members of HOMRA who would protest against them doing so, including Yata, he’s going out of his way to memorize where it is and to avoid it like the dickens.

Yata really is very shy about physical intimacy, even the small things like kissing someone, and the idea of having to kiss someone just because he ended up under a plant with them?? It’s freaky and weird and uncomfortable for him.

On top of that, the very idea that his crush was at the same party and that there was the potential to end up under there with them?? Yata would be so uncomfortable with the idea because that’s not how he wants to end up kissing his crush for the first time. Add on top of all that awkwardness and uncomfortable emotional state the fact that Yata actually really dislikes public displays of affection, both in having to see other people engage in them and to potentially engage in them himself, and mistletoe is his worst enemy.

Of course, it’s pretty damn obvious to everyone else at the party how hard Yata is working to avoid the mistletoe and how much he dislikes it even being up there. And there’s certain HOMRA members who wouldn’t hesitate to use his uncomfortableness to their advantage, teasing him by trying to trick him into standing under the mistletoe with just about anybody or following him around while hanging mistletoe above his head, though definitely at a far arm’s length around, just to playfully tease him and watch him get all worked up.

Honestly, even if that person teasing him did manage to trap Yata under the mistletoe with his crush, it’s very likely that nothing would come of it because Yata would be so aggravated and annoyed and flustered and uncomfortable at that point that he handles all those emotions the only way he knows how – by starting an all out fight with the person who ended up getting him to stand under the mistletoe in the first place. It might actually end up hurting his crush’s feelings, since he’s going to be yelling about how stupid mistletoe even is and how he isn’t going to kiss anybody and fuck that stupid tradition, it’s so dumb anyway and honestly, it wouldn’t be a shock if his crush assumed that Yata really didn’t like them because of how badly he’s dealing with the situation.
