This is a reminder for those who handmake Christmas presents that now is not too early to start. It may in fact be a good time to start if you have a lot to make/your craft takes a long time. You should maybe start it now, whether that's brainstorming or actually doing the crafts!

I finished all the ornaments from my festive stardew valley cross stitch pattern. The bead work took forever... and now I'm decorating my Christmas tree
As promised, here's a Google drive containing a free pattern for a blackwork ornament, with instructions and images showing how I assembled it. If you make one of these and post pictures, I'd love to see them!
Materials:
- Aida cloth (I used 18-count)
- embroidery floss (I used 6-strand cotton DMC floss in colour 991)
- cotton sewing thread
- stuffing or fibre fill
More ornaments I've made this way are here, here, and here. Here's a set assembled the same way, but using cross stitch rather than blackwork.
This fabric book from the early 90s was caught in a folding chair. It looked like it would take a repair well. With my handy dandy threads I got to work.
First, a patch behind the fabric. It was from a pair of pants with dead elastic that I stole pockets from. The reindeer's head also got stitched up.
The torn fabric kept trying to shift on me, so next I added stitches to pull the sides together. With that settled, I started to fill in the torn light blue section. Some of the torn or weakened black areas got shored up and fixed as well.
Off the hoop and stitched closed again!
The booty gave me the biggest hassle, but I made that work. The sleigh was an absolute pain. I switched from a basic fill stitch to a sort of modified fishbone stitch? I feel like there's a better stitch name. I know how to do more embroidery than I know how to label. My mental note for this one is, the back and forth with the under+lap(opposite of overlap) in the middle.
The fur of his glove also gets a repair here. Basic fill stitches had that working like a well oiled hinge.
I did hand wash after fixing. The fabric brightened up and the remaining scuff marks came out. I'm very pleased with the results and so is the owner.
