Life Risking Romance (K-Movie Review)

Overall Rating: 6.5/10 (A great watch when you have nothing else to watch)

Summary: During a long period of writer's block, Je-In (Ha Ji Won), a mystery crime novelist, comes across a flirtatious neighbor, Jason (Chen Bo Lin), whom she believes is a murderer. However, due to her infamy of repeatedly filing false reports on her neighbors, nobody believes her. To inspire her to write before her looming author deadline, she decides to investigate Jason, with the help of her best friend (and policeman) Rok Hwan (Chun Jung Myung). However, her budding feelings towards Jason interferes with the investigation, leaving Rok Hwan heartbroken and Je-In with more questions than answers.

🏁First Impressions:

After reading the summary, I thought this would be a sappy, over-dramatic romance like the telenovelas my mom would watch. To my surprise, the words "sappy" and "over-dramatic" are not the first words that come to mind when describing this show.

The first scenes show a "crime" taking place--the tension rising as a young woman, Je-In, hides, trying not to make a sound. This is all broken as Je-In lets out a fart that comically stinks up the whole room. (This joke is repeated some times throughout the movie. It's funny, I swear)

Just like it was clear this was going to be a thriller and comedy, it was clear Je-In and Rok Hwan's relationship was a long-time loyal one. With their light-hearted and witty bickering, it was hard not to immediately ship them.

However, Rok Hwan's tender feelings are unrequited. To my dismay, Jason enters the scene and takes Je-In's heart.

Although the charming Jason seemed like the man of everybody's dreams, I was already fond of the ever-so-loyal Rok Hwan (though he hadn't had much screen time yet), and rooted for him for the remainder of the movie.

🏳️Lasting Impressions

Although no scene left me cackling, bits of entertainment through characters, like the banter between not only Je In and Rok Hwan, but Yoo Mi (Yoon So Hee) and her secret boyfriend were happily anticipated throughout the movie. Even side characters like Rok Hwan's selfie obsessed co-worker got a smile out of me when they were on screen.

Apart from its silliness, the movie also had a few suspenseful scenes at just the right times. As Je-In scoured through Jason's apartment in search of clues, as Yoo Mi was chased in a dark alleyway, and even as Je-In fought a criminal (could it be the mystery murderer?).

I applaud the suspense and mystery highlighted carefully throughout this comedic movie, even if some of the action scenes ruined the suspense with its mediocrity.

With two male leads, there would of course be some romantic tension. Being a murder mystery, the true tension came when ...

SLIGHT SPOILER!

...a solid (and SHOCKING) clue was revealed to suspect Rok Hwan as the murderer. Not only was Je-In caught between two romantic interests, but two possible pyschos.

The chance that the beloved Rok Hwan be the murderer instead of new perfect boy-next-door Jason was agitating, but perfectly added the "mystery" into murder mystery.

The mystery wasn't clever, and it wouldn't have taken much brain power to find out who was the real killer, but that wasn't the point of the movie. The point of these two potential perpetrators purposefully tugged at your (and Je-In's) heartstrings to choose a side--loyalty and unwavering companionship or a thrilling romance that will end as soon as it starts (but never forgotten)?

So this is an oldie classic for me. It’s from 2010 and yes it can get over the top sometimes and yes the storyline is sometimes 🤪 but it’s a fantastic melodrama especially in the first half of the series. I thought it always was sort of original in the sense that you had a main character, Eun Ju, who is basically the protagonist that sets off everything in motion being the evil stepsister but you sympathize with her, or at least I did, I don’t know. Honestly I loved all the characters in this, everyone was really written well, including the eye candy fodder of Ok Taec Yeon (gotta love me some of the 2pm youngin’ days) He was absolutely adorable in this although sometimes painful to watch since yes his character was the awful second male lead syndrome type where you know the relationship is sunk before it even begins but you always hope for the ship to sail. Overall in a nutshell this is a really enjoyable drama if you like over the top heartfelt melodramas.

Diziye klasik bir romantik komedi sanarak başladım. Çok yanılmışım. Hiç düşündüğüm gibi çıkmadı. Tabi ki bu benim dizilere konusunu okumadan başlamamdan da kaynaklanıyor. Yeo Jin-Goo’i ilk Hotel Del Luna dizisinde izlemiştim. Diziyi çok beğensem de oyuncuya bir türlü ısınamamıştım. Ya kendini güzel geliştirmiş ya da ben o dizide kendisine uyum sağlayamamışım. Zira bu dizide çok beğendim.

Eun Gye-Hoon(Yeo Jin-Goo), başarılı bir şeftir. Bir gün hiçbir şey yokken rastgele duygular yaşamaya başlar. Bir anda gülme krizine giriyor, bir anda ağlamaya başlıyordur. Neden sinirlendiğini bilmeden sinirleniyor ya da mutlu oluyordur. Bu şekilde başkasının duygusunu hissetmesi çok küçükken yalnızca ikiz kız kardeşi ile yaşadığı bir şeydir. Tekrar bu duyguları hatırlayan Gye-Hoon işinden istifa edip kız kardeşinin 20 yıl önce kaybolduğu kasabaya geri döner be burada bir restoran açar. Bütün bu duygulara restoranın tam karşısındaki evde oturan No Da-Hyun(Mun Ka-Young) neden olmaktadır. Bu noktada fantastik ögeler barındıran gizem dolu bir dramaya giriş yapmış bulunuyorsunuz.

Yeo Jin-Goo ve Mun Ka-Young’un beraber oynadıkları ilk dizi bu değilmiş. İkili daha önce başka yapımlarda da ( “Ja Myung Go” ve “The Reputable Family” ) bir araya geldikleri için aralarındaki uyum diziye de yansımış görünüyor. Dizideki “şef” teması çok zayıftı. Dizinin bu yönünü hiç beğenmedim. Başrol karakteri bir şef ve bir restoran açıyor ama dizi boyunca ne restoran kullanıma açılıyor ne de şefimizi doğru düzgün bir yemek yaparken görüyoruz. En başında şef olduğunu anlayalım diye gösterdikleri sahnede ne gördüysek o. Görüp görebileceğiniz budur demişler. Beni de şaşırtan bir çok duyguyu barındırması bakımındansa ilgi çekiciydi. Gizemliydi, romantikti, biraz polisiye biraz fantastikti. Beklentilerinize ters köşe yapmayı seviyor gibiydi. Biraz uzattıkları konu ise başrollerin arasındaki bu fantastik bağın kaynağı oldu. Dizi boyunca merak edilip, bence çok da mantıklı bir şekilde bağlamadılar.

Yan roller ise, bence çok renkli ve keyifliydi. No Da-Hyun’un annesi Hong Bok-Hee(Kim Ji-Young) ve büyük annesi Na Chun-Ok(Ye Soo-Jung) özellikle müthiş tiplerdi. Büyükanne ekstra ekstra reprenkli bir kişilikti. Deli deli bakışları, her an katil olabilecek tavırları ve acaba birini öldürmüş olabilir mi şüphesini sürekli destekliyor.

Toparlayacak olursak, yemek ile alakası olmayan bir şef, konu ile alakası olmayan bir genç kız, aralarında neden olduğu bilinmeyen bir bağ ve her şeyden bağımsız bir ceset bütün diziyi özetliyor. Ben kendi adıma bu gizemi başlarda sevdim. Ama uzadıkça uzamaya başlayınca bir süre sonra aman istemiyorum öğrenmek demeye başladım. Ve sonuçta bu muydu olarak bitti. Onun dışında Yeo Jin-Goo ve Mun Ka-Young ikisi de güzel oyunculuklar ortaya koydular. İkisi içinde bakış açım ve fikrim değişti diyebilirim.

Şiddetle tavsiye etmem ama ilginç bir dizi olduğunu söyleyebilirim.

Jin's Busy Life As An Assistant Drill Instructor Was Shared On Korea TV

Last December, Jin officially enlisted as a rookie of Yeoncheon Training Center. Until now, 3 months have pa̾s̾sed and there is very little news about Jin these days as he is now an a̾s̾sistant instructor of the corps.

Certainly among ARMYs, there are many people who are curious about what Jin is up to these days and what life is like as a teacher for the rookies Jin. A recent кσяєαn TV show detailed the military life of assistant instructors through the narration of an instructor who joined the same unit as Jin.

There by we understand more what Jin is doing:

About a month ago, Jin completed a 5-week training course at the frontline infantry division's training camp in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. Jin successfully completed his duties during the training period and he was honored to become the conductor at the graduation ceremony.

At that time, Jin's parents and his family were also present to witness this important moment. After the graduation ceremony, Jin was assigned as an assistant instructor for his permanent military position.

The assistant instructor's primary responsibility is to discipline recruits and demonstrate training exercises. Only a few are selected at each department and the position requires rigorous qualifications.

To be selected as a̾s̾sistant trainers, soldiers need to apply for the position during training and pass a physical exam and interview. As is customary, this position is usually awarded to soldiers who have excelled in training.

Before Jin, there were a number of other celebrities who also held this position in different corps. Examples include Hyun Bin, Chun Jung-myung, Yoo Seung-ho, Go Kyung-pyo, Ok Taec-yeon and Im Si-wan, etc.

However, his life as a teaching assistant has never been revealed in detail before, so fans don't know if Jin is leading a good life.

Fortunately, recently, a Korean TV show, an assistant drill instructor from the 10th company of the new recruits training camp in the 5th division, the same division with Jin, came on and explained the daily routines of the assistant drill instructors.

He revealed that: "The trainees need to get up at 6:30am, so the instructors have to get up earlier at 6am, get dressed into combat uniforms, then wake up the trainees for morning roll calls. After leading them for morning roll calls, we take the trainees to breakfast.

We accompany them to all 3 meals and all the trainings. Also there are weekly education session for the trainees, and we have to prepare those educations. We act as principals or trainers of those educations sessions. So basically it’s really busy for us. We hardly get any breaks, or personal maintenance time."

This is why the assistant drill instructors get a little more time off in between each training sessions because they don’t get any breaks daily and weekends during a training period.

It doesn't seem to be an easy job and it's not simpler than soldiers in other units. So even if Jin is kept at the Yeoncheon training center, he still has to work hard and give his best in his work. Not only that, as a celebrity and representative of BTS, Jin has to work even harder.

Perhaps due to the nature of the job as well as other military security issues, Jin's life since the end of the training course has been much more private. The last time Jin was allowed to post photos was after completing basic training along with a comforting message to ARMYs.

So far, fans still expect something from his army.

While BTS members always tell ARMYs that Jin texted them and said that he is still doing great to reassure ARMYs.

It's still a long time before we can see Jin again, but ARMYs will definitely be waiting for his return!

Love Alert

Just finished watching this series about an actress and a dermatologist who need an escape route and find in each other the comfort and love they need.

It is a sweet rom-com with a solid plot. I like the main characters and the secondary ones. I like how the family conflicts turn around and how the greedy person gets destroyed by her own actions.

It really is a feel good series. I loved seeing Yoon Eun Hye on the screen again.

I’m a huge fan of Yoon Eun Hye. She’s beyond gorgeous, talented, hella funny, and oozes all this into the drama. The drama starts off soooo good too, unfortunately it it heads into being a heavy melodramatic cliche storyline. It’s still very watchable, but it does get a bit much on how many tropes they try it fit into each episode. I still love it even if got quite ridiculous at times. It’s still a fun watch for what it is.
