Ok actually I'm gonna continue this rant where everybody can see it. (Mostly focusing on the Heralds bc Joseph,,, could be his own post honestly but he's mentioned when its important.)

Another very VERY well-made part of the framing and body language and everything in cutscenes is how they convey who is in power in every single one.

Let's start with John. He has the least amount of cut scenes in the game but also is shown not in power in 2/3 (4 if you count the beginning of his boss as a separate one) of them. The framing of the first cutscene portrays him as in charge and the focus at first, but then the moment Joseph enters the scene hes shown to have much more control and John suddenly looks like when a child is sent to the principals office or is being scolded by their parents. And that feeling doesn't end when Joseph leaves, because despite him still by all counts having some form of power over you, you already have seen cracks in the mask, and hes suddenly much less intimidating. The second scene is of course all John and the control he can possess when left alone but again, I think a big reason he is seen as pathetic by the fan base because he was already shown early to act almost neutered by Joseph and that was most likely on purpose. See, Johns area of the game is overall the easiest, and it's the one that's hinted at to go do first because it's a low-level area. He is the weakest in-game, and they absolutely knew what they were doing making the first guy you're supposed to fight still intimidating by how off the rails he can be and how him being set off causes violent tendencies that are scary when you are vulnerable, as shown in the Bunker scene and the Falls End scene. The final one i talk about above is finally putting him in a place where he is vulnerable, and it frames it as such, and it shows his panic and desperation in the end.

(Side note, the second bunker scene, from what I remember is the only John scene you can really look all around in, and it makes sense because of course you would be looking for a way out in this situation)

Faiths scenes are a little weird and different because Faith's whole thing is making you think that you want this and that she's just a helpful guide. Nope! No control here shes just showing you all this cool stuff. And for that reason her cutscenes generally allow you to look around and the focus is on both her and the environment. The scene where she has you walk the path is obviously very whimsical in nature and its the "we aren't scary! If we were evil would bliss be so beautiful? Would i be so kind?" Of course we the player also feel almost creeped out by this, because we see the fake smile with too many teeth and know what happens if you stay in the bliss too long. Faith is definitely meant to be the 2nd area in the game, mid level fights, her cutscenes can be put off but not entirely avoided like johns, a greater sense of urgency, that sort of thing. And Faith herself is intimidating because you never know when she's going to show up and where. Half way through a quest? K now you're jumping off the statue. Just stepped out of the jail? You're being shown the end by Joseph. It keeps you on your toes. Of course you can put it off for a while which is something i did often in game. Her boss is also probably the most fucking wild just because the mind fuckery that was present in her cutscenes being used against you more aggressively than before. Faiths 3rd act breakdown is fun too because you suddenly hear her giving excuses and trying to garner pity (albeit while chucking magic at you and flying,, did I mention her boss fight is my favorite?? Its my favorite.) Her final cutscene is soft and she dies with a warning. "If you listen to him, he'll be right" its ominous and it leaves you confused. Isn't she on his side? Its a weird sensation that sticks for a while after her fight. Clearly something meant to come to mind at the final fight with Joseph.

(Side note for her: I did the "side effects" or "after effects" quest or whatever its called after I beat her boss and was finishing up the quests in that area and man was it WILD to hear her giggling after death,,, she made more of an impact than y'all give her credit for, this has been my daily "please talk about faith more" psa)

Every cutscene with Jacob, regardless of weather or not hes actually in charge somehow conveys that he is in control of the situation. Its obvious for most of them, him being free and walking around, carefully chosing his words and what the player sees constantly, even when Pratt tries to reveal his plans its too frantic to understand. His presence is always felt in the Whitetail Mountains and his section of the game is obviously the most desperate. Your focus is always on him. What he's doing, where he's going, what he's saying. And he knows. He makes every word matter. And he is always confident. Even to the end. Theres something to be said about how even in the Joseph cutscene of his area, who always fucking steals the show when he's around, we still have a portion of our attention on Jacob because both of them are an equal threat. His death cutscene is probably the best example of my point. Even when he's hacking up blood and bleeding out he still is confident. He adds to Faith's warning "you did everything he said you would" still trying to instill that helplessness he's been giving you as he dies but it feels more genuine. He dies sitting on a rock, Jacob is gone but it never really feels that way.

I watched npmd live last night on youtube and I'm obsessed with lautski so take some headcanons

Since Max is gone and the school's hierarchy was kinda thrown out, Steph and Pete quickly become sort of a power couple after homecoming.

Of course, if someone were still stupid enough to harass Pete, there would be hell to pay from Steph (we've all seen that collar grab, you cannot tell me this girl isn't up for some ass-kicking)

They're both very affectionate people, though not always in public. Their friends definitely have to submit to the PDA though.

Money is not a problem for Steph, with her dad's inheritance and all, and she likes to spoil her boyfriend a lot. Pete is way too flustered to chastise her about it most of the time.

(Steph also loves to make Pete flustered in general, it's one of her greatest joys)

They decide to avoid "how's this gonna work when you're out of state?" and apply for the same colleges (Steph's grades are much better now with Pete's help). I'm still not sure of what they would study, maybe she'd go for law school and he'd do something like chemistry.

Steph would want to get them a huge apartment or something, but Pete convinces her to downgrade a bit. She ends up letting him handle most of the finances after a while, because she honestly doesn't know what she's doing and they'd both like the money to last.

They bargain with each other to make the other go to therapy, and eventually they both go. I think they'd create very healthy communication habits after a while.

Steph would definitely be the one to propose. Nobody can convince me otherwise. She'd write a speech and fumble the lines and they'd both be in tears by the end of it.

They'd have a long engagement. No reason to rush things, now that they've got their whole lives ahead of them

Yubel for the ask game?

First impression: *looking up Jaden's yugipedia page two years ago* "I'm sorry what the hell is this about him fusing with a Duel Monster??? HELLO?? HI????"

Impression now: YUBEEEL i like them a lot, moreso now that I did right after finishing GX...season 3 of gx is kind of a mess in a lot of ways but it's not really their fault. I'm not rly someone who enjoys "soul fusion with your soulmate" much as concept personally and I'm not terribly big on what s3 had to do to jaden's character to make that endgame possible, so that's not really my favorite thing surrounding Yubel, but theyre such a genuinely interesting and engaging character and yugioh villain. Also lbr her design fucking kicks ass. I wish she got to be a little sillier, a little goofier!! The GX character birthright!!!

Favorite moment: Yubel!Jesse vs. Zane duel, full stop. Still genuinely one of the greatest duels I have seen in yugioh thus far. tfw GX had a color and lighting budget for like 3 episodes and it slapped like absolute hell.

Idea for a story: im very fond of my College AU Yubel, very love the idea of them having to write an essay that Jaden slacked on and then they actually get really into it. Compiling knowledge of the Baroque period they have zero use for but find interesting nonetheless...

Unpopular opinion: I've talked about it a couple times before but I don't really go to jaden/yubel as a romantic ship; I personally enjoy it much more as a platonic soulmates read (like. idk. if they didnt have the element of "yubel has been looking out for jaden Since He Was a Little Kid" i'd be more into it i think. just not really my favorite, that point. and again just not big on soulfusion. but im aro dont listen to me fjdgsg)

Favorite relationship: that being said i Do really like the potential of jaden and yubel's dynamic and it's unfortunate s4 Is so short so you only really get a small glimpse of it. they can play off each other really well and there IS so much love there! i wanna see things play with their little individual habits driving each other insane. Yubels gonna reach into jay's jacket pocket and get a handful of crumbs and I think he's gonna be a little "damn bitch you live like this?" THATS my favorite jaden n yoob dynamic.

Favorite headcanon: I really love transfem Any Pronouns yubel. Also I know in my heart of hearts they'd be a complete metalhead, but like, also for music from two thousand years ago. Yubel is a very Iron Maiden T-Shirt coded character to me I will not be elaborating.

OK I'm going to be petty and vent ab it here bc I'm not supposed to tell this to my roommate and I want to keep my friend safe.

So my friend and I are going to the same college. She's living in the dorm and I'm living in the apartment. Mine and her roommate are also good friends who btw are also going to the same college. My friend has two roommates/freshmen as well and basically there's 4 of them in 1 one dorm-

The left bedroom is the freshmen's and the right one is my friend's and her roommate's. As you can see, they're separated by those thick walls so no one could disturb the other. Her roommate goes home every Thursday after classes and my friend feels lonely most of the time bc she hates freshman girls, they're rly mean to her. 💀

So she invited me for a sleepover on Friday after classes and I agreed. Note that there's a common rule that dorm students shouldn't invite other students who aren't living in the dorms to their place but it's usually not a big deal and basically everyone's doing it. I came to my apartment, took a shower, packed all the essentials, told my roommate ab it and moved in at my friend's place for a girl’s night. We ate pizza, watched some movies and had such a great time together. Suddenly, she gets a message from her roommate saying "I found out about [my name], I hope that she won't be sleeping in my bed.". I mean, it's not like I'm stinky or anything, I'm the most germaphobic person alive and this comment rly insulted me yk. 🤬 We didn’t know who informed her ab me, our first guess was the bloody freshmen but then I remembered that it could have been my roommate as well. My friend got rly scared bc, if her roommate finds out that we were planning a sleepover, she could complain to the authorities and my friend would then be kicked out (wtf they're all so mean to her??).
