The same thing counted for Fugo, really. Even if he had the means to try new things, he never had the motivation. But now that Narancia was here, his worldview broadened.

He closed in, cautiously, and took some of the bread with strawberry jam. "uhm...thanks. for making it."

Fugo took a bite, giving it a thorough taste in silence for a while. "It's delicious....." he admitted in a quiet voice.

Everything Narancia made was good. Even if Fugo could magic his way around to survive, it all felt, tasted, smelled, sounded superficial. like he had created some cheap replica in stead of the original.

But this was real... he could taste the effort and love in it.

he was sincere, actually. though he didn't dislike how the other had looked on the first day.

Of course, he looked good now, but from how he looked the first time, Fugo could tell he had something special about him. he had spunk, and healthy curiosity. and he was very open. those things shone through, despite a layer of dirt and patched clothes.

It’s Lullaby’s name day today. Before her name came to me, Nalle-Maja was meant to be her actual name; Nalle-Maja after Bamse’s daughter. This day in 2020, I was baking cookies called Engelska Kakor (translates to: english cookies) from my cooking book printed in 1903. She always begged when I baked or when I ate but it was so different that day. ‘‘But you can’t eat them’‘, I told her and I was so close to crying because she reminded me so much of Thomas. Maybe that too was a warning. I told her ‘Happy name day’ so so many times that day. I always did but in my head there was this feeling that I had to say it over and over again. Perhaps that too was a warning. Because it was the last name day she had, and those cookies was the last thing baked with her in the kitchen. From my cookingbook printed in 1903 - 9th of March was the day she thumped when dad carried out our christmas tree. She was so scared and I tried to comfort her telling her, ‘‘It’s okay Alice, it’s okay dear’‘ but it didn’t helped. It always helped but it didn’t help. Why didn’t I think more about it? She must have known she would die the 12th. Perhaps she was begging me to tell dad to let the christmas tree stay in the house because if only it had then maybe she had not died. And I remember the day after, 29th of February. I was doing errands and the thought of ‘Lullaby is dead when you return home’ was in my head so often and I knew it wasn’t true because the gods couldn’t do that to me. Not when I had lost Thomas the year before. But that thought still came up. Maybe if I had went home when that first thought appeared then she wouldn’t have died. Cried before falling asleep this morning seeing her in front of me. She was so close, but I couldn’t touch her. I really tried because I felt her calling on me, but I couldn’t reach her.
