Opinion:  I'm an Anti-Specsser and Everyone Else Should Be Too
Why are you wearing glasses?
No, seriously.   Why the fuck are you still wearing glasses?
The epidemic is over.  I don't know anyone who worries about nearsightedness anymore.  Do you hear anyone talking about it?  Do you see nearsightedness germs flying around?  No, because it's OVER.
Look, I don't know how to break it to you, but a thin piece of glass in front of your eyes isn't going to help protect you from macular degeneration.  It's a false sense of security, an illusion; like if you just keep looking through them you can pretend that the world has crisp sharp edges.  Well, guess what?  The world is blurry.  You don't know where empty space ends and your body begins.  In fact, it doesn't.  Your body is mostly empty space.
Everything happens for a reason, anyway; so if you get into an accident because you can't drive without your glasses?  Tough cajones; take your punishment like God intended.  It's your fault for having bad genes, which you got because of... original sin, or something.  I don't know, I didn't actually read the Bible.  I just believe vehemently in every word of it, except the words you use to disagree with me.  Because that's wrong.
I don't think I'm doing anything wrong by yelling at glasses-wearers on the street.  It just fills me with such visceral, incandescent rage when I see a pair of pince-nez balancing on someone's nose.  It's like they're sending a direct fuck-you to people like me, who choose not to wear glasses.  So of course I have to yell at them; it's just simple self-preservation - if I don't, pretty soon everyone will be wearing glasses, and ganging up on those of us that don't, because we're "jeopardizing public safety" or "a danger to the common good."  I don't need to listen to that.
When you declare you're on the opposite side from me with that flag you wear right on your face, you shouldn't be surprised when I treat you like an enemy.  "What sides?" you ask?  "There's no 'sides' here; everyone is just choosing-" oh, shut up.  You're so naive.  Of course there are sides.  There's sides to everything.  What about a circle? you say.  Inside and outside.  There.  Now don't you feel stupid.
And those circles you wear on your face mark you as being on the inside.  I don't like that.  Nobody likes being left on the outside.  So stop wearing them.  That way I can find something else to be angry about, like freckles.  I think I'll take on freckles next.  If you have them, stop having them.  You're being too different from me and I don't like it.

Been blocking more Zionists who appear on my feed, seriously get the fuck out of here already, and of course one of these people has shared a post of an article talking about how a "Big Pharma Rep" has said that the, "COVID vaccine is designed to kill babies."
Can we stop for a minute and think before we share things? Ask ourselves, "Why would this be happening?" And then look at those reasons and ask, "Are these legitimate reasons?" Like the whole "micro-chip in the vaccine" or whatever they're saying these days because "the government wants to control us!" The government does not need to micro-chip you. Most all of us have a phone which has the ability to track your location (friendly reminder to not bring your phone to protests and cover your face so you are harder to identify) and has a microphone that picks up what you're saying. And then that information is being used for targeted ads and other reasons. If you're in the US, you likely have some form of legal identification, whether that be a literal number assigned to you or something like a driver's license, they have plenty of information on you. Stop and just think for a minute about the things you're spewing and maybe accept that your world view might just be wrong.
But it is kind of funny to me that the people who are claiming Hamas and the average Palestinian wants to murder Jews (they don't) are being sided with the people who spread wildly inaccurate and harmful misinformation and don't stop to think, "Hey, why are these people supporting me?"
Critical thinking skills are vital and necessary. It's been how many years since Plato's Allegory of the Cave? I feel like maybe we should've figured this out by now, but I guess not

so far 2 episodes of Futurama have been like "hey check out this cool trend, what if that but...... in future?!?!?!" and the other 2 have been "remember that cool emotional beat from the previous episodes? if we do it again it will work right?" and honestly it's been kinda meh for me.
can't wait for the episode where seymour's puppies become tiktok stars, two birds with one stone and all that.

 RWBY’s Allegory of the Cave
To start, if you don’t know what the Allegory/Parable of the Cave is, it’s from Plato’s Republic.  Here’s an ~8 minute video that will explain it better than I could, right now.  You might be asked to watch something similar if you ever take an introductory philosophy course.
youtube
Team RWBY begin the series imprisoned.  They have grown up on Remnant and they know the Grimm to be an ever-present threat that must be combated.
Later, they learn of Salem.  They learn of Ozpin’s true nature.  They learn about Salem’s gods-given curse, about her control over Grimm.  They learn that Ozpin has no plan.  At the same time, they learn of the relics and the spirits bound to them.
They travel to the vaults where the relics are kept.  They’re warned not to fall in a space they accessed while inspired by the vaults.
They fell.
What they’re going to learn in the Ever After is up in the air.  Does aura function?  Does dust?  Semblances?  Are there Grimm there?  Are there no Grimm in the Ever After?  Will their presence draw Grimm to the Ever After, which had never seen Grimm before?  What is dust?  Will they learn its secrets here?
Whatever they learn, it’s going to change them.  They’ll never be able to look at Remnant the same after experiencing a world that has different rules.
They’ve learned about the Witch and her Warrior, the uncaring Gods, the bound Genies, and worlds beyond Remnant.  Outside of the Ozluminati and Salem herself, most of this is unknown to the people of Remnant.  They have no concept of what’s behind the world they live in.
Will Team RWBY share the truth with them?  Will they accept it?  Or, following the Allegory of the Cave, will they respond with scorn, anger, or even violence?
Ozpin and Ironwood seemed to believe so.  They fought so hard to keep the truth hidden, believing the consequences of truth wouldn’t be worth the benefits.
But, with the truths that were dropped, the world knows about Salem now.  And they didn’t fall apart.  They didn’t revolt, because the people who delivered that truth didn’t approach it the way Ironwood or Ozpin would have.  Ruby didn’t speak over the people or as if she spoke for the people; she spoke to them.  And she reached them.
Maybe the next revelations will be received as well as the last.

Meteorite Covid Allegory...?
Every day, in the middle of the afternoon, a meteorite would land in the city centre, killing hundreds of people.
It was, apparently, always the same meteorite, and it always fell in the same place, at the exact same time, like clockwork, every single day. It wasn't very large either - maybe a few metres across.
Everyone knew about the meteorite; it was all over the news, and everyone was talking about it. But despite knowing of the danger, there were always crowds of people in the city every day, going about their business. They behaved as if it didn't exist.
My mother wanted me to go into the city to buy groceries. I told her I didn't want to because I was worried about being killed by the meteorite. But she didn't listen to my protestations, and insisted I would be fine.
So there I was, in the middle of the city square in broad daylight, surrounded by people going about their day - when the meteorite came screaming out of nowhere. I just happened to be standing behind some crates when I saw it, and I ducked down for cover.
There was a loud explosion and screams as the people closest to the blast were blown to shreds. Everything was on fire and there was smoke everywhere, but I was alive. I had been spared by the blast through sheer luck.

cant given SNW enough props for once showing an accurate representation of a doctor & nurse, their individual strengths/academic specialities and talents, their mutual scientific prowess, their collegial relationship, the dynamic of trust, the dynamic of mutual respect, the ease with which they share medical responsibility (there is no "hierarchy" it is a partnership), & depicting what I can only describe as a jarring allegory to our earthly "war" against Covid that healthcare workers today suffer extreme PTSD from while coupling it with the further challenge of learning to coexist with people who merrily killed elderly people, children, and others for their anti masker, anti vaxxer ideals - while healthcare workers suffered extreme mental duress to fight a war people gladly forget or even ignore when the plain fact that the reason we globally overcame Covid at all is because frontliners (and scientists and supporters) fought for the right thing and yes, "came home different".
it's like a modern frontline doctor and nurse having to sit down to a dinner with Ron DeSantis or any other anti science psychopath and being expected to fucking swallow it.
bravo
& props to the actors for M'Benga and Christine, thank you.

I've been meaning to make a list of spooky (Thai - because negl that's 99% of what I watch) BL series and movies and what better time to post this than in October?
Spooky BL are my favourite flavour of BL. Turns out, there's actually a lot of them (maybe because Thailand does horror so well). These are only the ones I've watched (and enjoyed) so this list isn't complete.
*On another note: horror doesn't faze me at all so I can't really accurately say how scary some of these are. If you have squicks or triggers like jump scares, gore or bad endings please feel free to ask and I will do my best to give you a heads-up.
✨Spooky Thai BL✨
He's Coming To Me | Probably one of the first series everyone will think of. Not that spooky but a solid ghost(love) story with a murder mystery at its core.
Hidden Love | This is a budget show filmed under serious constraints during the worst of the covid pandemic. It's clichéd. It's over the top. But it's also got its charms. It comes with a tragic ghost (love) story that completely overshadows everything else with its many flashbacks and plot twists. If you manage to get over the camp. I warned you.
Tumblr media
Dear Doctor I'm Coming For Soul | This one has reapers and ghosts and lots of bittersweetness. It's not that creepy since the supernatural elements are very matter-of-fact. It will make you cry though, sorry. :(
Tumblr media
Ghost Host, Ghost House | Spooky with incredible chemistry between the leads and a cast of characters that you will immediately fall in love with.
He She It | A three-episode miniseries with a haunting soundtrack and a nice plot twist. This will make you miss JeffGameplay. :(
Tumblr media
Low Frequency | Not spooky at all, and a bit slow and empty at times, but it has ghosts (in a way) and a sweet enough couple.
Tumblr media
Make a Wish | Unfortunately, this has never had an inter release. There's inofficial subs floating around on grey sites but as of yet the series hasn't been fully translated. Which is a pity because it's a cute show about angels and spirit possession and (some) murder mystery.
Tumblr media
Midnight Museum | I'm stubbornly putting this under BL. This show has everything and everyone. It's genuinely spooky at times but mostly draws on folklore, the mystical and an absolutely stellar cast.
On Cloud Nine | Short and beautiful. An indie production that's more ethereal than genuinely spooky.
🎞️Red Wine in the Dark Night | The oldest entry in this list. Admittedly, not very spooky (and instead rather surreal and sad), but it has one (1) vampire and Fluke Natouch in a role that's more grounded than we're used to nowadays.
Tumblr media
Something in my Room | A spooky show with ghosts, mystery and romance that hides a lot of commentary behind metaphors and allegory. Criminally underrated because it didn't have a wide enough release. If you want to binge something fun and spooky for Halloween then this is the series to go. Prepare tissues.
✨Not a BL but hey, I know that actor!✨
Enigma | Win Metawin (and surprise guest!) in an incredibly well done 4-episode series about the occult with interesting worldbuilding and the promise of a second season.
🎞️Ghost Lab | Tor Thanapob and Ice Paris in a genuinely gruesome, shocking and scary horror movie. You've been warned.
Girl From Nowhere | One of the best things tv has to offer, and genuinely dark as well. Up Poompat, Pepo Nutchapan and James Teeradon feature in some of the loosely-connected episodes.
🎞️Hoon Payon | Phuwin Tangsakyuen, Up Poompat and Bank Nuttawat in a classic spiritual ghost story. More shocking than scary.
🎞️Inhuman Kiss | Oab Oabnithi and Great Sapol (sadly, not as a couple) in a sad and romantic take on a classic Thai legend.
Let's Fight Ghost | A Thai remake of a fun and somewhat spooky kdrama with spiritual themes. And Saint Suppapong.
🎞️Pee Nak 1, 2, 3 (and soon 4) | I'm biased because I really like this movie series. It's spooky but in a fun way. It has queer characters (as comedic relief - but not in a degrading way) and can get surprisingly deep. Watch this if you want to see (baby!) Tar Atiwat grow up on screen (because he's in all four movies). The third movie rewards you with some surprisingly sweet MeanPlan that might continue into the fourth movie.
School Tales | A Thai horror anthology centred around students at various schools. This series has Fiat Patchata, Kay Lertsittichai, Pepo Nutchapan, Mark Siwat and, most prominently, Saint Suppapong and Chimon Wachirawit in well-paced 50-minute episodes.
The Stranded | One of my favourite series ever. If you watched LOST then you know what to expect. This has 3 QL couples (Perth Tanapon & Mark Siwat, Win Pawin & Tanthai Tatchapol, Ticha Wongtipkanon & Chaleeda Gilbert) but don't expect any of them to get a happy ending. Sadly, this series ended on a cliffhanger and won't get a second season due to the lead actor's tragic passing and Nadao's dissolution.
✨Upcoming Spooky BL✨
7 Days Before Valentine | Death Note but make it even more of a BL. Patrick Rangsimant originally wrote this so I'm really excited. Plus, it will begin airing in November which is almost as good as October.
Tumblr media
🎞️After Sundown | A period ghost movie that hit Thai cinemas this summer to great success. There's currently no news on an international release.
🎞️Death Is All Around | Saint Suppapong coming through with another spooky production - this one about death and the afterlife. This also has Seng Wichai, Bas Suradej and Dun Romchumpa (presumably as a couple).
The Hell Guards | Chains of Heart but make it spooky. Oh, I am so excited for this!
My Imaginary Boyfriend | Based on another one of Pat Rangsimant's novels (my favourite, atually). This one is more grounded, and spooky in a more psychological sense.
Mystique in the Mirror | Another one of Pat Rangsimant's novels (and psychological horror too, by the looks of it). This one started filming back in early summer so it should be airing soon.
Tumblr media
Shadow | This series will air its first seven episodes on Halloween and that should tell you everything you need to know. It's a suspenseful (ghost?) story set in a Catholic private school.
Tumblr media
Spirit Reborn | This has the potential to be very spooky, with curses and spirits and past lives.
Tumblr media
SunsetxVibes | This is going to be messy and spicy but the short pilot trailer did have spooky undertones and possible spiritual themes.
The Whisperer | More psychological horror but this time not penned by Pat. Apparently, this has been in production for a while so hopefully we'll get some news soon.
Tumblr media
Zomvivor | The only zombie series on this list has entered pre-production and is slated to be released in 2024 (hopefully before October). Will it have BL? I don't know, but it stars pretty much all of domundi's acting couples (and more).
1000 Years Old | Will it be spooky? No idea, but it does have vampires and sometimes that's enough.

Saw a post in the tag that's like "do you think the Half Life series is an allegory for the COVID-19 pandemic?" and putting aside that it can't really be an allegory for something that happened decades after it was released... I'd say the answer to that question is a very emphatic no.
The Half Life series is about how a horrible freak science accident happened and made everyone's lives considerably worse in a very short time, and then humanity spent 20 years working together to fix it. The COVID-19 pandemic has proven that when horrible freak science accidents happen in the real world and make everyone's lives considerably worse in a very short time, humanity will pretend to care for about 1.5 years and then gleefully, spitefully, cruelly throw everyone who survived the first wave to the wolves. People in the HL2 universe gave up their lives for the greater good. Most of y'all won't even wear a fucking mask to the grocery store.

post-covid scifi is such a distinct category for me. I don't know if any other genre developed in this way. we had a lot of lockdown themed media in 2020-2021 but that's like a time capsule. scifi writers were able to see how governments responded to a pandemic within their lifetimes and it changed the way they write their allegories

@worldgonewrongpod are the pod people an allegory for COVID or is that incidental? By that I mean that people could handle the threat of being replaced by being willing to follow protective protocols and not being fucking weird about it and not making things worse by pretending it's not a threat as a way to cope. (And scapegoating the wrong people ie the whole thing of saying "fuck you go die" to disabled folks, and mocking the request of staying remote, wearing masks, not coming in while sick, etc.)
Or is that not the intended symbolism?
Anyway sorry if this isn't the right way to write to a blog. I got into Tumblr late and I'm just learning stuff now.

I don't know how I never noticed this, but there's a recurring theme of "willing VS unwilling imprisonment" at least once in each arc. In all cases, people can willingly isolate themselves from society in a tiny box, so long as they believe there's a way out, or otherwise don't feel trapped.
Flandre Scarlet willingly traps herself in the basement because she feels that she has nothing necessary outside her prison, and because there is nothing to actually hold her. Sakuya is forcibly imprisoned in the basement with her.
Reimu willingly imprisons herself in her shrine until the incident blows over, until Yukari being possessed spurns her into action. For this arc and the next two, the forced imprisonment is Marisa being tied up against her will on flimsy pretense.
The Eintei arc reminds us that Kaguya willingly stays in Eintei most of the time, but she does so because in reality she can and does leave often.
The Moriya Shrine and Kappa both quarantine themselves, out of fear and out of mourning. The Moriya Shrine having a way out proves to be their undoing, however. They left the moment they thought it was safe.
The Myouren Temple wholeheartedly agreed to be sealed off from the rest of Gensokyo to trap Mizuchi. However, everyone besides Byakuren and Satori felt unwillingly trapped and began to panic. Mizuchi was then trapped in Old Hell, along with everyone else there.
In the final arc: All of Old Hell was once willingly imprisoned, but now they are all forcefully imprisoned, which pisses them off.
It's likely Mizuchi views Gensokyo as a whole as a forceful prison for humanity, and it likely was when she was alive. In the present, however, the people are willingly there, even if they don't realize they're trapped. But as long as they don't FEEL trapped, the human village will not collapse into unrest. This is necessary for Touhou Project to be a series.
I still believe Mizuchi is a Covid-19 allegory. At first, she was an allegory for the virus itself, but now she is an allegory for those affected by the virus, it seems. Regardless, it's ZUN complaining that lockdowns are not only not helpful, but against how life works, and turning all of society into one big prison.
