Hey guys! I had the pleasure of working with the amazing author @ifonlyweknewwhatiwasdoing (MusicSoul1982 on Ao3) for this years’ @codywanbigbang . You can find the fic on their Ao3 and i recommend reading it. 🥺 Here’s the amazing excerpt that inspired the art.

“I hate fighting with you,” Cody whispered.

“I hate fighting with you too darling,” Obi-Wan admitted, “I love you. Let’s get some sleep. I’m going to request another day before my mission. I don’t want to leave with this between us.”

“Thank you,” Cody murmured, burying his face in Obi-Wan’s neck as Obi-Wan wrapped his arms around him, sighing in relief, “I love you too.”

“Goodnight, dear one,” Obi-Wan said softly, pressing a kiss to Cody’s head.

“Goodnight, cyare.”

Vader is a technical genius, it is a well-known fact. So, following his defeat at the hands of his old Master on Mustafar and the rise of the Empire, Vader executes his greatest act of genius to prove his dominance: he creates an artificial intelligence modeled after Obi-Wan Kenobi.

After the rise of the Empire, nothing remains of Commander Cody except for CC-2224, just another rank-and-file stormtrooper among many. He goes where he is told to go, shoots where he is told to shoot, and doesn't question it because good soldiers follow orders.

A droid told to be human meets a human told to be a droid. They meet somewhere in the middle.

summary:

During a standard return trip to Coruscant, the stardestroyer Curiosity disappears. It leaves no trace. 

Now, two years later, it sends a homing signal. 

As the 212th investigates the abandoned ship, a terrible picture starts to form of the crew’s final days. Scorch-marks on the walls. Blaster shots. The deep cuts of a lightsaber. 

When Thumper starts hearing the voice of a dead batch-mate, it becomes apparent that whatever is responsible for the death of the 97th attack legion may still be aboard. 

 And it's in their heads.

Preview

Cody lets his eyes travel around the room, making sure everyone is doing alright. When he catches Thumper standing in front of the transpiristeel wall he smiles to himself. It must be the first time he sees an ion drive engine up close. It’s certainly an impressive bit of engineering. 

But the longer Cody watches, the more obvious it becomes that Thumper is too stiff, in a way. Too tense around the shoulders and when Cody takes a few steps forward he can see the tiniest of tremors going through Thumper’s body. 

Mo sees it too, and as trooper closest to the shiny, he makes his way over. But when Thumper doesn’t even react to him coming to stand next to him, Mo lays a hand on Thumper’s arm. “Hey, you okay?” 

Thumper doesn’t move, doesn’t turn his head, just stands there staring into nothingness. “Do you hear him too?” There’s a vacant ring to his words, like he’s only half there. 

Cody turns to catch Mo looking at him, and he doesn’t need for the other to remove his helmet to know he’s wearing the same expression as Cody. He’s seen many things. Brothers frozen on the battlefield, caught in grief they struggled to overcome, combat stress, PTSD. The Kaminoans might think they bred it out of them—and some days, Cody wishes they had—but truth of the matter is that no matter how hard some people in the Galaxy might try to deny it, they’re still human. 

But this is different. 

He can’t put his finger on why exactly, but his gut-feeling has never betrayed him. 

“Who?” Mo asks carefully. 

“Flower, my batchmate.” 

“Oh,” Mo sounds surprised and worried all in one, “did he come to the Negotiator with you?” 

Cody already knows the answer to that. There wasn’t a Flower on the arrival list he signed off on just three cycles ago. 

“No.” Thumper shakes his head and then, almost too soft for Cody to hear, whispers: “He’s dead.”

Today Obi-Wan watches Naberrie at work. Naberrie is dedicated, meticulous and solely focused on his tasks. Each motion has been repeated, learned by heart and honed as a reflex over and over and over. From what Obi-Wan could gather, Naberrie’s last year has been mainly centered around training for their expedition. He’s been formed in various fields with a panel of carefully picked experts: he’s learned the steps, prepared for the unexpected, amassed a copious amount of knowledge no other Human could easily achieve in very little time, and he will do what an entire set of men is expected to do on his own.  COMPOR calls it “clone efficiency”. Years ago it used to rally the hearts of distraught Republic citizens to the war effort; now it’s a testament of the utility of clones. The propaganda is continuously evolving, sometimes headed to benefit the Republic, other times to steer clear of public discontent. Commander Cody of the 501st has spent half of his life being a model, an example, and a reassurance—and seeing him at work does confirm the saying. This morning is devoted to setting up the Durian spectrometer. Obi-Wan has a vague understanding of its purpose; it's about cosmic ray events, and it has nothing to do with Ahsoka-4 on its own, rather its exotic location. That’s pretty much all he knows. He's not sure he wants to know more about it, but he does want to ask Naberrie nonetheless. It might be curiosity—both about the setup and the setter.

Summary:

A year after the conclusion of the Serreno Splinter Wars, Marshal Commander Cody Fett continues his service to the Greater Republic for Mandalore. Yet, it was slowly cutting him to ribbons, his plans to remain a military man for life are being challenged.

Eventually pushed to take vacation by the brass and a chance check-in Cody finds himself in the last place he expected — An animal conservatory and rehabilitation system. Cody finds his time there unexpectedly healing and finds himself growing fond of the gorgeous Dr. Obi-Wan Kenobi, Director of Wildlife Rehabilitation for the JEDI Conservator Intuition. A fondness that he's sure is returned.

It all seems too good to be true, and he's right. The peace he hoped for here is rapidly turning into a mystery as endangered and threatened species begin to disappear from their supposedly safe habitats.

“She’s beautiful.” He whispers, reaching up to scratch under her chin like he had, applying the right pressure instantly.

Interesting.

“She really is,” Obi-Wan agrees as he walks closer to the Mandalorian, studying him, “I’m sure she’s annoyed with some of my grooming, but I just want her to be her healthiest.”

“Well they always say owners like their pets to match so I’m not surprised.”

The noise that escapes him is competing to be a scoff or a huff, the only thing agreeable is the fact it is one of amusement. Cody’s eyes cut to him, a sly smirk lifting at his lips, before using both hands to give Boga more scritches.

“I’m right, aren’t I?” Speaking to her in a conspiratorial whisper, “He makes sure your scales shine and your mane is the fairest in the land because he likes to be all prim and proper too. You have to be a matching set to shame everyone else.”

“It’s good hygiene to — ”

ROOP!

Whipping around, Obi-Wan watches betrayal in the highest order as Boga’s feathers puff out at an angle, tail wagging, and leans more into Cody’s touch, eyes closed in bliss.

“That means I’m right.” Cody states smoothly, expression full of superiority and eyes half-lidded in playfulness.
