I will never understand how this scene is somehow proof of Dany turning into a Mad Queen. She was supposed to sympathize with Viserys, the man who spent years abusing her, who threatened to let all the Dothraki men and their horses r*pe her, who threatened to cut her unborn child out of her? Yeah, I don't think so. She's getting justice against her abuser. I'm not gonna fault her for that.

I have always made the same point you did in your post re Drogo and Dany and Rhaegar and Lyanna. Targies will say it doesn't matter if GRRM thinks Drogo and Dany was consensual because there is no way a 13 or 14 year old girl can consent to sleeping with a man in his 20s and 30s, which is the correct take here. But then will turn around and tell people who have the same issue with Rhaegar and Lyanna that they are illiterate and shouldn't challenge Martin on this because his intent trumps all. So which is it? Because if only Martin's authorial intent matters then they need to re-evaluate all their takes on Dany being a bridal sex slave but something tells me they will scream bloody murder if someone tells them that.

A lot of this comes down to racism and framing. Drogo was the primitive brown boogey man who was the leader of a khalassar that pillaged cities. Rhaegar was described as a harp playing emo twink that was dutiful......except to his own wife and kids.....but you know GRRM refuses to be honest about that man lol.

A lot of people in this fandom are hyperfixated on this series and unironically think GRRM is the Smartest Writer Ever, therefore refuse to admit that he made a shit ton of narrative and structural fuck ups with this series. It's okay to say that than author you like didn't have the sensibilities of a millennial who majored in gender studies in 2024. It's okay to admit he made major mistakes in his series, as evidenced by his inability to finish the books, and critique using Death of the Author.

Martin can say whatever he wants about Rhaegar and Lyanna, it won't matter to people that see how deeply insidious that relationship was. And not wanting to go into the details of this relationship is 100 percent one of the many reasons he's not finishing these books lmao.

Not a single lie was typed.
