Do any of you remember in the Remnant Chronicles Kaden's father, Lord Roche, admitted to Rafe that he was involved in a plot to ambush the Dalbretch royal family and Lia on their way home to their kingdom after the wedding in order to stop the alliance from happening? This was in book three, The Beauty of Darkness, where Rafe was interrogating Lord Roche in the dungeons and beating him up for confessing that fact so Sven had to hold him back saying that it was enough. It was also stated that the traitors also planned to make the assassination seem like the work of Dalbretch bandits but when Lia fled the wedding this was foiled. If any of you do remember, I'm like contemplating a fanfiction where Lia never ran away from her wedding. And there'll be angst, forced proximity, and a slow burn instead.
There'll be the moment where she does see Rafe at the altar and they're both surprised of eachother. Like Rafe isn't the old wrinkly prince she thought he would be and Lia is different from Rafe's expectations of her. Then there is the tense wedding night where they don't do anything but sleep in one room together and an awkward breakfast the following morning with both royal families, Morrighan and Dalbreck. But of course in this alternate what if fanfiction, the traitors attempt to ambush the newlyweds does happen. It's bloody and scary, however, Lia piques Rafes interest after she defends herself with her epic knife skills against their assailants. Hooded assassins with their indentities concealed FYI. Oooh... and what if this is where she encounters Kaden instead. This is where Kaden gets angry that as the best assassin of Venda, he failed his mission. Then from that moment on he's got the princess of Morrighan on his mind.
Afterwards, when they do go to Dalbreck, Lia actually does have the time to bond with Rafe's mom since it was stated in canon that the Queen was sad when Lia ran away as she always wanted a daughter. Lia and Rafe would ABsoluTelY DespISe each other. LIKE REALLY HATE EACH OTHER. So enemies to lovers maybe? 😏 It'd make total sense because of how Morrighan and Dalbreck are rival kingdoms. There'll be like a little bit of Bridgerton vibes thrown in as Lia is introduced to court... like I got a WHOLE plot you can consider as an alternate time line or reality. You know there is gonna be some jealousy thrown in there right? Cause Rafe is hot and the Crown Prince of Dalbreck. Not to mention the only heir so ladies of the court have resentment for Lia. BUT it isn't one-sided cause Lia is fine as **** too and all the Dalbretch lords take notice of it. Remember how in canon Rafe's father told him everyone will look the other way if he took a mistress for a lover to placate him over the arranged marriage, and once he did meet Lia he thought he dodged a poisoned arrow when she fled their wedding day? How about when during a ball, Lia catches Rafe dancing with a noble lady who made her interest in her husband very clear so she storms off from the party and somehow in a whirlwind of events, Kaden kidnaps her to bring her to Venda. Rafe then becomes absolutely distraught. REALIZES that he is in fact very in love with Lia. Now he goes to find his wife and bring her home.

Resenha: The Kiss of Deception, de Mary E. Pearson
Tumblr media
Livro: The Kiss Of Deception Série: #1 - Crônicas de Amor & Ódio Autora: Mary E. Pearson Gênero: Fantasia Ano de Publicação: 2016 Editora: Darkside Páginas: 384 Classificação: +14
NOTA: 🌟🌟🌟🌟 - 4/5

The Remnant Chronicles | Series Review
Author: Mary E. Pearson
Genre: YA Fantasy, Romance
Publisher: Henry Holt & Co
Release Date: 08/07/2014 - 07/07/2015 - 02/08/2016
Rating: 3.75/5 🌟
Synopsis:
The Kiss of Deception: 4/5 🌟🌟🌟🌟 In a society steeped in tradition, Princess Lia’s life follows a preordained course. As First Daughter, she is expected to have the revered gift of sight—but she doesn’t—and she knows her parents are perpetrating a sham when they arrange her marriage to secure an alliance with a neighboring kingdom—to a prince she has never met. On the morning of her wedding, Lia flees to a distant village. She settles into a new life, hopeful when two mysterious and handsome strangers arrive—and unaware that one is the jilted prince and the other an assassin sent to kill her. Deception abounds, and Lia finds herself on the brink of unlocking perilous secrets—even as she finds herself falling in love.
The Heart of Betrayal: 3/5 🌟🌟🌟 Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape . . . and even less of being together. Desperate to save her life, Lia's erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komisar that she has a magical gift, and the Komisar's interest in Lia is greater than either Kaden or Lia foresaw. Meanwhile, the foundations of Lia's deeply-held beliefs are crumbling beneath her. Nothing is straightforward: there's Rafe, who lied to her, but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom she always believed to be barbarians but whom she now realizes are people who have been terribly brutalized by the kingdoms of Dalbreck and Morrighan. Wrestling with her upbringing, her gift, and her very sense of self, Lia will have to make powerful choices that affect her country, her people . . . and her own destiny.
The Beauty of Darkness: 3.75/5 🌟🌟🌟 💫 Lia has survived Venda—but so has a great evil bent on the destruction of Morrighan. And only Lia can stop it. With war on the horizon, Lia has no choice but to assume her role as First Daughter, as soldier—as leader. While she struggles to reach Morrighan and warn them, she finds herself at cross-purposes with Rafe and suspicious of Kaden, who has hunted her down. In this conclusion to the Remnant Chronicles trilogy, traitors must be rooted out, sacrifices must be made, and impossible odds must be overcome as the future of every kingdom hangs in the balance.
Review:
BOOK ONE:
okay, so yeah, this one actually lives up to the adequate hype it has! honestly, it should have more hype since it’s much better and well plotted than most new releases!
anyways, the first half of the book was a game of who’s who?! and it legit had me pulling my hairs out!!! cuz i sooo wanted her to fall for the prince but these shitty stories always have the princess falling for the rugged broke bitch … ugh!! i was all nerves!!! thankfully, around the 70% mark, we get the truth out !!! anywho, really like this one. i’ll be picking up the next in a couple of days! highly recommend the audiobook too!!
BOOK TWO:
unfortunately, this one suffered from “sequel blues”! it wasn’t bad per se, but it didn’t have the mystery element of the first one that kept me reading! that element could have easily been swapped for who is “the betrayer” the book is named after (ie: **** ******)! the exposition of the events wasn’t as gripping as in the first book either! still the ending offered a good fight scene and a resolution to the current situation so i’m not too mad at the book!
I hope the final book is more like the first than the second!!
BOOK THREE:
this one wasn’t as gripping and thrilling as the first, but it didn’t suffer from sequel blues like the second. the events that transpired in the last 10% weren’t exactly my cup of tea and brought my overall enjoyment down, thus the 3 stars instead of 4 stars! hey at least we got peace and no stupid draconian border treaties!!

Já lerem a trilogia The kiss of deception?! https://www.instagram.com/p/CpBpt0-rr0M/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Review - The Beauty of Darkness

The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson (The Remnant Chronicles #3)
Publication date: 2016 Read by me: April 1st to April 25th 2019 (life was getting in the way...) Full review on Goodreads. Recommended to: fans of dark fantasy, slight dystopia, royalty, political intrigue, strong female characters, well-constructed character arcs, character-based novels, love triangles, sanctified characters. Rating: 4 stars.
Link to reviews of other entries in the series:
Morrighan (The Remnant Chronicles #0.5)
The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles #1)
The Heart of Betrayal (The Remnant Chronicles #2)
Blurb (from Goodreads)
Lia has survived Venda—but so has a great evil bent on the destruction of Morrighan.
What I liked
Character growth and character arcs, which being the third book really had to come together and boy, did they. While all characters had their parts to play and experienced growth somehow, my favourite arcs will always be Lia’s and Kaden’s. The amount of learning, self-awareness and priority assessment they go through is ASTOUNDING.
Plot and political intrigue, with the book revolving around a conspiracy, it culminates in more than one show-down and a lot of strategising throughout. I was left on edge several times thinking about potential consequences of characters’ actions, how they would backfire...
World-building, still discreet, but a bit more developed, with more kingdoms mentioned, more background on the Remnants, and a privileged view into the kingdom of Dalbreck.
Females supporting each other, and this is something constant throughout the series. NEVER was there a moment in which two females came against one another. There might have been mistrust, but in the end support was the prevalent message. And I loved it! Go sisterhoods!
Resolution, and without spoiling anything, I will just say that this third book was a great conclusion to the whole series.
What I didn’t like
Characterisation, because again I felt like some characters weren’t as fleshed out... or were fleshed out with traits that I didn’t particularly like. Ask me if you want me to specify on this.
Slightly open ending, very slightly, but that left me wanting so much more. If only there were fanfics...
What I took from it
Caring for more than yourself or your own, going beyond your own happiness, previous loyalties or promises for the greater good. Lia, Rafe and Kaden are often confronted with this, and though tragic, it made their development so much better.
Respecting others’ decisions and boundaries, the importance of freedom and choice, which is stressed out often throughout the series. We see this frequently in this book with Lia and Rafe, how they are very much willingly choosing the path they are taking, and aware of those they are/don’t want to drag with them.
Stepping into your fate, accepting the power that you have and taking charge when needed. Many of us are afraid of what’s to come, of being in the spotlight, of taking risks. But it is so important to accept what we can and can’t do, our gifts, and go from there into what we are meant to be doing.

The Remnant Chronicles' Men Trying To Parallel Park Part 1:
Sven: He can definitely do parallel parking. He even knows how to parallel park to the left on the left side of a road. Consistently nails it down every time he attempts to do so. However, he is terrible at teaching parallel parking. Knows how to teach his boys Rafe, Tavish, Orrin, and Jeb, but he yells at them too much for them to get. Like, "TURN THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT! NO! STRAIGHTEN THE WHEEL. TURN ALL THE WAY TO THE LEFT AND REVERSE NOW." Skill level 10/10
Rafe: He is good at parallel parking. However, with passengers he can get secretly flustered knowing they're judging. If Lia is in the car with him, this SIMP WILL show off. His arm would be braced on the passenger seat, where Lia is sitting, and he'd be looking back through the rear window as he reverses fully aware she is intensely watching him, admiring the muscles and veins in his arm plus the look on his face as he concentrates. Sven taught Rafe well through no easy lectures till he was able to parallel park quickly without any pauses. Doesnt forget to signal his intentions and put the car in reverse. Turns the wheel all the way to right, then straight, and finally all the way to left in one fluid motion. Skill Level 10/10
Jeb: This sweetheart knows how to parallel park but just avoids doing it if he can. So he's definitely not good at it due to lack of practice. Being the dramatic fashionista that he is, he'll hold up the road attempting to parallel park if he doesn't feel like walking to his destination in order to not mess up his outfit or get sweaty. Skill Level 3/10
Griz: This hulk doesn't know how to parallel park. He can't fit comfortably into any small 5 seat car and thus any vehicle that he can drive can't ideally be parked in between the space between two cars. However, he could probably make a tight fit with a big truck or jeep. Skill Level 4/10
Eben: LMAO 🤣 this guy doesn't have a driver's license yet cause he's still too young much to his own petulance at being teased for it. Skill Level 0/10
The Komozar: This dumb *** can drive, but as he is a power hungry ******* and thus arrogant, he's got a chauffeur to drive him all over the place that knows how. If not he'll make a valet park his car for him. Skill Level: 0/10

A Trip to Luxembourg Day 1/2 🇱🇺 VI. Passerelle (or d'al Bréck as they say in Luxembourgish) is the Old Bridge of Luxembourg City which is also a viaduct. It connects the Ville Haute (historical centre of the capital city and also part of the UNESCO cultural world heritage) with the central station district. If you stand on this bridge, you will have an amazing view on the picturesque cliffs of the Luxembourg plateau (of early Jurassic sandstone). It's like a canyon within a city! #passerelle #dalbreck #cliffs #luxembourgplateau #canyon #picturesque #letzebuerg #luxembourg #luxembourgcity #dstad #stadletzebuerg #letzebuerg #luxembourg #luxemburgstadt #traveling #shotwithhuaweip10 #shotonhuaweip10 #instagood #instapic #instaedit #instatravel #photooftheday #thisisbagleystriptoluxembourg #likeforlike #likeforfollow (hier: Luxembourg, Luxembourg) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3AUaXtoV3U/?igshid=18rlvpc3p3o5

I had an absolute blast reading Pearson’s “The Remnent Chronicles!” I discovered it after a friend told me to read “The Dance of Thieves” duology and I am so glad I reached for it!
I definitely recommend this trilogy to those new to the young adult fantasy genre 🗡🤍 It won’t take long to become completely immersed in the world and fully invested in the characters and their storyline!
I definitely plan on revisiting this series soon and I hope Pearson will allow us to return to Morrighan, Venda, and Dalbreck in future works 🤞
