Writing Prompt #13
"So?" Red Hood asks, arms crossed. "Was I right?"
"Yes," Phantom says, deepening his voice, "this is one of mine."
"One of your what?" Robin growls. Nightwing's hand on his shoulder is the only thing keeping him from invading Phantom's personal space, which, please, continue to do so Mr. Nightwing, Sir.
Phantom would take a deep calming breath if a) he wasn't trying to appear as otherworldly as possible which means no human breathing and b) if that wouldn't so obviously telegraph how uncomfortable he is in the Batcave surrounded by the entire Batfamily.
Next to him Red Hood shifts in slight discomfort. His ties to the spectral realm mean he's picking up on Danny's unease even if he can't fully translate the feeling. Which is good. Danny needs to maintain what little control he has over this situation.
"There's a gh-spirit in my...realm," Phantom says, letting himself drift gently to the other side of Batman's medical table which just coincidentally puts more distance between him and the the rest of the clan staring him down. Black Bat leans forward and he violently suppresses a flinch. "They're known as Nocturne. They wield power over dreams. Their signature is all over this."
And Danny means that literally. Their ecto-signature couldn't be more apparent if they'd written it in sharpie across Batman's suit. This is what Jason—Red Hood, because Danny couldn't have been dealing with a simple civilian case of ecto-contamination, nooo, he's got to have connections to the superheroes Danny has spent the better part of his afterlife avoiding—managed to pick up on, even being the low level entity that he is.
At which point he'd called Phantom in, even though Danny had spent the better part of two weeks trying to intimidate the guy into never contacting him, Ruler of the Spirit Realm (lightning crash!), again, but here is his calling card just in case (thunder and creaking noises!!), but again, you should never use it unless things are very serious, OoOoOoOo~~~
Damn it. It's been like 10 days.
"So how do we fix it, Your, uh, Ghostliness?" Nightwing says, ducking his head in a sort of half-assed supplication when Phantom turns to him. Nightwing glances at Jason for affirmation who shrugs out of the corner of Danny's eye.
"Phantom is fine," Danny says, waving his hand and letting his upper lip curl in an expression of distaste. "Remember, it's like you're Vlad when Dad offers him a glass of eight dollar wine!" Jazz's voice reminds him. Robin growls lowly, likely meaning he's nailing it. He looks away dismissively ("Honestly, it's like you're Vlad, anytime, ever." Sam notes dryly) and thanks god he doesn't have a heart in this form because it would be beating so loud right now.
Beside him, Jason scratches compulsively at the back of his neck. Huh, his anxiety is manifesting physically as an itch. Good to know.
"You can't fix it," Phantom says. "I can."
"At what cost?" Red Robin asks. "Red Hood mentioned you'd want something in return?"
Frick. His other contingency to keep Jason from ever contacting him again. Phantom had lightly hinted his taste du jour was, uh, souls.
Something Red Hood has apparently let slip, because now Robin shakes off Nightwing's hand, puffs out his chest and declares "I will trade myself for my father's safe awakening, Spirit!"
The other members burst into denials which almost covers up Danny floating sharply back and saying "What? No!!!"
Key word: almost.
Danny coughs as they stare at him.
"That is to say, I have no desire for a child," he puts a bit of snarl into it, showing fang. The mood in the room plummets drastically as Nightwing gently grabs Robin by the arm and pulls him back to his side.
"We see," he says. He steps forward more assertively, placing himself in front of the others, all of which are now eying him warily. "Then, is there a gender you prefer?"
It takes a second to click in Danny's head and then he swings his head wildly away from his audience to hide his reaction, nausea and embarrassment turning his face bright green. "Fika Kristo," he mutters in Esperanto as quietly as he possibly can, pinching the bridge of his nose.
He gives himself a moment to settle and game plan before turning back around. "I have no desire for any of you, and it matters not. In this instance, a deal need not be struck. Nocturne is my subject, and they have done this without my permission." Danny blinks, eyes widening. "Not—not! that I would give them permission to do such a thing. In the first place. Ahem."
"Okay...so you'll do this for free?" Jason asks. "Seems like a bad business practice since you also fixed me up for nothing—"
"What he means to say, Your Majesty, Phantom, is thank you!" Signal says in a rush as Nightwing starts, "Wait, Hood, what do you mean—"
"Enough!" Phantom says loudly (nearby bats take off and Jason's itch migrates to his forearms) "I have little time," read: he has a test tomorrow and he's only one-third of the way through the study guide "And I grow tired of this...dilly-dally." Frick! Is that an old-timey word?
"Of course. Thank you again, Phantom." Nightwing says stiffly, eyes still narrowed in Hood's direction.
"Wait, sorry, Phantom, Majesty, I'm Spoiler by the way," the purple-caped vigilante Danny already knew was Spoiler says. "How do we keep this from happening again? To any of us? Is there a way to defeat this Nocturne?"
"Moreover, why Batman?" Red Robin asks. "Why would a spirit from another dimension want him asleep?"
Phantom sighs. "Nocturne was trying to send a message. To me. Through you," he says, nodding at Red Hood. "They...how do I put this. They like attention. Being the spirit of uh, dreaming, they don't receive that attention. And you were in my realms for quite some time. And they wanted...attention."
The lackluster explanation sits for a moment before "They were jealous? Of me?" Red Hood asks skeptically.
"It's more complicated than that. Your...physiology," Danny puts it as delicately as possible, watching regretfully when Red Hood still stiffens at the mention, "Is particular. You gather attention in our realm. And having my attention is...special. But not!" He says to the group at large, a touch panicked, "Romantic!"
Jesus, he's never gonna hear the end of this from the others.
"Anyway, I will ensure it does not happen again."
"By paying them attention," Spoiler says under her breath, wiggling her eyebrows at Black Bat, Red Robin shooting them both a glare. Nightwing ignores them in favor of staring at Red Hood and Phantom. Danny is unsure what Red Hood has disclosed about how he knows Danny, but now he feels confident the answer is close to nothing.
Before Nightwing can ask whatever uncomfortable thing he's about to ask, Phantom disappears. Invisibly, he hovers over Batman's sleeping body and silently apologizes for the intrusion before intangibly slipping into Batman's REM realm and finding the man...oh...
Probably thirty minutes later he reappears to the group, who all perk up at the sight of him. Their eyes bounce from him to Batman; who does not move, to the monitor; which shows no change in his brain activity.
"I'm going to need your help," Danny says to Jason, getting to the point.
"Why? What can I do?"
"It's easier if you come with me," Danny says, grabbing his arm.
"Come with—"
Danny wastes no time in turning them both invisible and flying them into Batman's mind.
"What the—" Red Hood twists and turns, taking in the hallways of the manor. From afar, they can hear the tinkling of a piano. "You, I had your word—"
"This isn't where you think it is," Danny says hurriedly. "We're in your—Batman's dream." He walks quickly down the hallway, towards the music. Jason follows.
"What?"
"The way to break a dream spell is to wake the dreamer. You can't do that externally so you do it internally. Usually you wake the dreamer by turning the dream into the nightmare, scaring them awake."
The hallway stretches on longer than realistic, the dream attempting to divert them. But it can't outrun Danny. His power seeps into the halls, ice creeping along the paneling and freezing the way behind them.
"Batman, however, is hard to scare."
"So you want me to do it."
"What? No." Phantom shoots him a confused look. "Why would I—Ahem, The other way is to convince the dreamer they are dreaming. They break the dream themselves."
"Alright..." Jason says slowly, now keeping pace with him. His breath forms a cloud as he speaks. "And you think I'm the person to do it? I'm not the one he listens to you know, that's more Nightwing's schtick, or hell, anyone other than me."
"This isn't just Batman's dream, Jason," he says. Hood's eyes narrow at his real name, but now the truth is necessary. "This is The Dream. The perfect life. Everything he could ever want."
They're approaching an opening on the right side of the corridor. A bright light emanates from it, alongside the noise of stumbling piano keys and laughter, deep and male and unrecognizable. The Dream.
"Thomas Wayne," Jason breathes. "You want me to convince Bruce it's worth walking away from the center of his universe? It'd be easier if I put a bullet in their chests."
Danny stops abruptly before the doorway, turning to face Jason.
"You know, I fixed you," he says, head cocked. "Those feelings you felt, you shouldn't be feeling them anymore."
"I...I don't."
"Then why do you act like it?" He lets himself drift up, reaching beyond their planes of existence and extending a metaphysical hand to Jason's spirit. It shivers away. "You don't have to hide behind what was."
"I'm not hiding! And I don't have to explain myself to you!" He tries to move forward but Danny puts a hand out and he cannot move past it. He growls in frustration.
"I'm grateful to you, but with or without the Pits I'm fucked up. This is just who I am. This is just what he made me."
"You've never asked why I look like this. But did you know my form is malleable?" Phantom says, letting his legs shift into a tail, letting two eyes become three. "What I believe is what I am."
And then he takes several steps back, putting the doorway between them. "From here on out, the Pits can't tell you how to think or feel. Your decisions are wholly your own. Starting with this one."
Jason stares at the doorway, then Danny.
"I won't make you," Danny says simply. "And if you desire, I will retrieve Nightwing instead."
Jason scratches at his arms, grits his teeth, and stomps through. The light resolves into the sitting room, massive windows letting in sunlight so bright it streaks yellow-white across the room. Bruce sits on the maroon versailles couch next to Cassandra, who sits cross legged, excitedly watching Alfred pour her a cup of tea. To their right, in the open space, Damian barks instructions at Tim on handling a katana. Stephanie and Duke sit on the ground besides the coffee table, homework sheets sprawled across the surface, suffering their way through a calculus problem.
Bruce, smiling softly, looks across the room to where the atrocious playing is coming from. Red Hood follows his gaze.
Sitting at the piano, trying to play while Dick distracts him with a pair of chopsticks, is Jason. He puts a hand on Dick's face and shoves, both of them hitting the wrong keys.
"Get—away—dumbass!"
"No, see, it's a duet! Jay!"
"That's not why it's named—" and Jason Todd-Wayne tips his white-tipped head back and laughs.

DPxDC Prompt:
When Vlad announces that he'll be hosting a gala-- when Danny's parents make it clear he can't get out of attending-- Danny vents about the issue with his online friend, Tim (a boy he's been chatting with for months now, becoming quick friends over Doomed.)
"Huh, that's kind of weird," Tim says. "B's dragging me out of state to a gala this weekend too."
It's a little too much coincidence for Danny. "Uh… do you mind saying which state?" he asks.
"It's in Illinois," Tim says, and Danny just about bluescreens.
Despite being generally very careful about disclosing any information online, Danny can't help but shout a very enthusiastic, "WHERE IN ILLINOIS?"
There's a pause before Tim says, "Amity Park? Why, do you-- oh my god."
Danny's sure it's clicked for Tim too. He's out of his seat, pacing his room, not even sure when he got up. His mind is buzzing, both nervous and delighted. "Does it count as doxing myself if I confirm what is probably already extremely obvious?" he says with a laugh.
Tim snorts. "Maybe just a little, but-- do you still want to avoid that gala?"
"Fuck no."

H50, season 4, episode 19 thoughts...
Sarcastic Danny my beloved.
And they're having an argument.
Oh wow. Bomb. Okay.
Yet another trope to tick off the list: trapped together under a collapsed building.
(I need to write a list of all the tropes this stupid show covers one day)
Okay... if they're at Danny's place... where's Grace?
Called it.
Oh. Poor Grace. 😭😭😭 She tried calling Danny and it kept going to voicemail. Danny?? How?? This is not in character for you!
Steve laughing. He can see Amber isn't right for Danny if she's causing these issues already.
And now we also hear that Danny and Amber have been spending time together without him mentioning her to Grace...
Also, why is Steve in a wetsuit? Where is my shirtless Steve to ogle? And for Danny to ogle too
Danny doesn't want Grace to get attached to another woman.
Interesting choice of words. Woman. Not partner or girlfriend. But woman.
And he has no problem with Grace being attached to Steve. But I guess he knows Steve isn't going anywhere.
Steve calling Danny out on not being serious about the relationship.
Oh they are covered in dust. Which is actually really realistic.
That ringing noise is gonna drive me insane, though. Poor dudes.
Steve calling for Danny.
Catherine yelling for both of them. (I could maybe go a throuple)
Grabbing hands 😍😍😍
Holding hands 😍😍😍
Aww Danny!
The feels!
Danny and Steve and surviving together.
Oh no! Not rebar!
Why is Steve saying to take it out? Isn't that the first rule, to leave it in?
Okay. Steve's saying infection and sepsis and I don't know enough medical stuff to know if that's real... I'd have thought you'd bleed out before you died of sepsis... doesn't sepsis take time?
Steve: the really bad pain only lasts a couple of seconds. You gotta stay conscious.
Steve: that's my boy... stay with me...
(Gotta say that rebar was not as long as I expected)
Oh, they're arguing. They're gonna be all right cos they're arguing.
Grover: everybody stop moving *as he continues walking*
Danny: can I die in peace, please.
Uh, no, Danny, as if you'll die in peace if you're dying with Steve.
And, even though Danny's complaining, he's also starting to work the case again. Questioning why this guy.
Danny: it's not as bad as it looks
Catherine: thanks for trying to make me feel better
Max: this is a lot worse than I imagined
Steve telling Catherine to make a reservation for dinner that night. Would only have been better if he'd said to make it for all of them. Love how he operates as if they're gonna get through it.
Danny finds out it been all over the news and his first thought is Grace ❤️
Okay, I get not wanting Grace to worry about him, but seriously after that morning you can't tell her she's grounded. She did nothing wrong.
Also, if I was Grace I'd want the chance to talk to my dad even if it did mean I was worried about him.
Oooh. Mysterious outside guy.
And now mcdanno are having a serious conversation.
Danny: everytime something good happens in my life I just think about when it's going to end. That's all I can think about.
(So how long has he been fearing his relationship with Steve falling apart?)
Danny: the only sustained happiness I've ever felt in my life so far is Grace.
Steve telling Danny to bring Amber in, bring her closer - he should be giving that advice about himself
Danny agrees, if he makes it out alive, to give it a shot. (Steve really should have suggested them getting closer instead)
Please tell me we're getting science Steve again.
And he's got a grenade.
Directional charge. Oh yes.
Danny: this gonna work?
Steve: I dunno
Danny: hold on. Before we do this I just what you to know one thing.
Steve: what?
Danny: whatever happens, I really, really, from the bottom of my heart, hate you so much.
*they both smile and laugh* (they totally know hate is code for love)
Steve: I love you too, pal
😍
Danny: I guess there's a lot worse people to die under a big pile of concrete with, huh?
Steve: You wanna do the honours?
Danny: no, no. It's your stupid idea. You do it.
(This is so beautiful)
They get Danny up first! Of course Steve sent him up first!
And the first thing Danny says?
Danny: Steve. You gotta get Steve. He's still down there.
(I half expected them to both come up together, hugging)
Oh I like Catherine's watch.
The cop car arriving with Grace!!!
The way Grace hugs Steve, too.
And, after being trapped together for hours, Danny asks Amber and Grace to give him and Steve a moment. He still hasn't had enough time with his man.
Danny: when we were in there you said. You know, before you did the thing with the bomb, you said what you said. I want you to know, I feel the same way.
Steve: how is that exactly?
Danny: gonna make me say it? Come here. *hugs* I love you.
Steve: I love you, buddy
And mystery guy is ex-CIA
Have you gotten the message?
Steve walls through the door.
Please peeps, Steve does not give up, okay. The more you push at him to back off, the harder he's gonna come after you. Dude likes a challenge.
Now Steve's got a gun on the guy.
Okay, guy is explaining... it seems a bit too easy for him to be just explaining...
And now the dude is dead.

Dannymay Day 22+28: Cryptid au+Campfire
Oh, well hello there traveler! You’re out awfully late. There are lots of nocturnal creatures in the forest you know. Would you like to stay at my inn? The cabin is just a little ways away. Excellent! Well you shouldn’t look for it alone. I was just enjoying this here fire. If you want to go now I’ll put it out, but if you want to join me for a bit I certainly wouldn’t mind the company.
Really? I guess you would want to take a break from walking. Take a seat on that log over there. Marshmallows are right over there if you wanna roast one. Kinda chilly tonight huh? A new moon too. Perfect night for a scary story. You know any? Well that’s ok, I know plenty, let’s see… you’ve heard about Bigfoot? Bloody Mary? Danny Phantom? No? Well then, we have our story.
Not to far from here, in Amity Park, lived a family of ghost hunters. Their friends called them the Fentons. Everyone else just called them crazy. They were a mom and a dad with two kids, a 16 year old girl and a 14 year old boy. Odd as they were the parents were geniuses, making all sorts of effective ghost catching tech. Well one day they built a portal to the Ghost Zone. It was flawlessly made, with just one small issue. They forgot how to turn it on. They decided it was a failure and left it unattended.
Only a week later their 14 year old, Daniel, or Danny as he preferred to be called, was hanging out with two of his friends. Maybe he was dared, maybe he was just curious, but for one reason or another Danny decided to look at the portal his parents abandoned. He put on the suit his parents gave him and walked around inside. When he didn’t find anything he leaned against the wall. He discovered the fatal design flaw. The on switch was inside the portal.
FLASH! The portal turned on. Did something weird to his insides. Real weird. Rewrote the code of his very being. He woke up on the floor. His eyes were glowing green and his hair was whiter than snow itself. He was a ghost! Things only got stranger when he realized he wasn’t just a ghost. With a bit of willpower he could go back to being a human kid. Well, sorta.
Using his occult powers he protected the town from ghosts, over and over again. Not only that but he protected ghosts from the town. That’s when Danny Phantom was born. Some people, including his parents, thought he was a fraud. Pretending to be heroic just to betray the everyone at the last moment! For the most part he was thought of as a hero. That’s how things stayed for a while. Everyone was fine with their new normal. Took them some time to realize that normal was anything but.
Ever since the beginning one kid, I think his name was Wes? He noticed something had been off about Fenton. His eyes looked like taxidermy, perfectly real, but somehow lifeless. All the pink of blood flow had been drained from his face leaving a sickly pale. Overtime he stopped tanning and his skin burned easily. Then there was the way he moved. Fast, jolty, like someone moving a puppet for the first time.
Wes knew he was Phantom right off the bat. Everyone else? Well, I think deep down they knew it too. But they were all still in denial. No one wanted to think Danny was dead, or worse, not quite dead. They called Wes crazy and tried to ignore his words. Until the day came when they couldn’t anymore.
Even after only a few months it was clear to see Danny wasn’t aging. His appearance didn’t change at all. His hair and nails didn’t grow, his eye bags didn’t leave, he never got bruised, at most he would get a cut but he wouldn’t bleed. Then the wound would stitch itself back together in seconds. Even though they wanted to they couldn’t deny that something was wrong.
After that things only seemed to get worse for the town’s folk. They noticed just how terrifying Danny Phantom was. He looked more human than the other ghosts but all it did was make him uncanny. And he was more powerful than anyone they had ever seen. Using his powers and cunning he could defeat any ghost, even the ghost king. Suddenly they realized just how hopeless humans would be up against that kid.
After that they worshipped him like a god. They left offerings of Nasty Burger fries, NASA posters, video games, all the things they knew he liked. Anything to avoid making him an enemy. In return he continued to protect the town from others like him. It’s been 50 years since then, and still nothing has changed. You can go and see it for yourself if you’d like.
That’s my story. You like it? Well I certainly think it’s real. I’ll tell you I’ve seen some things that I can’t deny being odd in these parts. To tell you the truth I think what the town did was stupid. Without his friends or family, treating him like a god, not letting anyone talk to him, they’re just making him lose his humanity. I feel bad for the kid. Plus I don’t want it to backfire on the town.
Well, thanks for listening to my ramblings. Put out the fire and let’s head to the inn. My name? Just call me… Weston. Hurry now, there are mosquitoes out and something tells me you didn’t pack bug spray.

Angst Electric Boogaloo
Context: There was light awkwardness with the first meeting with Vlad but that got resolved because ya boy wants Uncle Vlad. ANyway, This would be recently after Danny unintentionally became Ghost King!
Enjoy!
"Hey ah.. Vlad? I think my core's being funny, it's all tingly like when you lick an electric socket." Danny winces touching his chest. It had been like this since the Pariah dark issue, so a good two weeks. The ghosts had been relentless at first before promptly backing off sense yesterday, Ember even wincing and telling him to go home.
"I'm sorry when you-" Heavy sigh from Vlad, which made him stifle a laugh "- We'll circle back to that issue later, what exactly is wrong with your core?"
He touches his chest again and transform, the sensation getting a little, actually not that was a LOT worse than Yesterday. "O-oh that um..ouch that's worse than yesterday." He wheezes doubling over in pain. "Daniel! What-"
Huh that was weird he had never heard Vlad panic sounding since..well ever really. He couldn't really focus either a static ringing noise blurring out whatever his uncle was saying. He flinches back when warm hands rest on his shoulders the feeling fading for a blissful second before the warmth left him and the feeling slamming back into him.
"Vlad? something..I think somethings wrong." He whispers, the cackling feeling like it was pulling at his very body. A lump forms in his throat as he tries not to scream out in pain. It felt like something was clawing at his chest, tearing at his body- and it smelled like..like a thunderstorm or something metal.
He can't open his eyes either, the pain was ripping into him. He didn't even realize he was stumbling back until he hit something, a wall?
"DANIEL!"
His eyes fly open when he finally hears his uncle, his vision clouded by..was that green electricity? The sizzling crackling noise got louder, tears welling in his eyes as the feeling started pulsing through him in waves almost like a heartbeat which quickened each second. "V-vlad? It-" He chokes out looking over his shoulder, freezing when he saw his uncles face.
"Help."
Everything went dead silent but the feelings didn't stop, they got worse, a scream tearing from his lips before everything went dark.

Not Really a Dick Pic - also on AO3
~
Pairing: Danny/Yuta
Rating: T, for excessive discussion of boners
For @wrestleprompts Week 4: asking permission to send a dick pic. This is a crackfic. This is chaos and nonsense and...I almost feel the need to apologize. Warnings for: excessive use of the word dick, mildly horny medical concerns, and bromoerotic interactions.
~
Wheeler blinks down at the phone. He closes the text app, and opens it again to make sure he’s reading it right.
Yup.
dude I think u broke my dick can u check
Wheeler sighs. He’d been hoping he’d been struck with an acute case of wishful thinking or word-based hallucinations, but nope. This was Danny Garcia, who he had just flattened in a tag match, asking him to check his dick.
Am I really the one to ask? I’m not a doctor.
yah but ur the 1 who did it so
Wheeler is sure he’s going to regret this. Go ahead and send me the picture.
He braces himself and tries to convince himself he won’t be a creepy combination of unprofessional and horny. It’s not really a dick pic. It’s a medical concern, possibly medical emergency, that his colleague is asking for help about. A boner is inappropriate. His, or Danny’s. He’s about to see Danny’s boner.
Oh boy.
His phone dings and Wheeler’s hands are, to be fair, a little shaky. It’s not because he’s into it. He’s not anticipating anything. He’s concerned for the wellbeing of his colleague.
Exhaling slowly, he opens the photo.
“Huh.”
It’s clinical, he tells himself, the way he examines the image. He notes a gentle curve to the left, a red-purple color, and thinks about the gory parts of Grey’s Anatomy to remind himself he’s here as a clinical support.
What’s the issue?
its bent it doesnt usually bend
Yeah, go to the doctor, man. This is not my area of expertise.
There’s a few minutes, and then there’s a phone call. “Why’d you land on my dick, anyway?”
“Hello, Daniel, nice to speak to you,” Wheeler grumbles. “Your dick looks fine.”
“But, like,” he huffs on the other end of the line. “You fell on my dick during the match. Why’d you fall on my dick?”
“I don’t know, man!” Wheeler finally says, throwing his free hand in the air. “Jesus, you can’t send a guy a dick pic and expect him to know how to deal with it.”
The other end of the line is quiet. “It wasn’t really a dick pic, technically.”
“It was close and I got flustered,” Wheeler retorts. He takes a deep breath. “Okay. I don’t notice anything wrong with your dick, okay? But, I, uh. I might not be the best reference, since I’ve never seen your dick before.”
“Would you want to?”
Now it’s Wheeler’s turn to go silent. “What?”
“Ignore that,” Danny says. “Fuck. I don’t know. I’m gonna, like, go to urgent care, get this checked out. And then next Wednesday I’ll come find you and – and apologize for the dick pic.”
Wheeler can’t fight a smile. “I thought you said it wasn’t a dick pic.”
“It wasn’t!” Danny says. “Stop – you broke my dick, and you’re making fun of me.”
“Wait a second,” Wheeler says, “does that mean – did you have a boner during our match?!”
“You and Claudio were – I had to – shut up!”
“Danny,” Wheeler says, “do you wanna get railed by Claudio?”
“No!”
The only other option hits Wheeler like a train. “Um. Do – do you want to –”
“Signal’s going out,” Danny says, “can’t hear you. Talk to you next week.”
Wheeler is left, baffled, staring at his cell phone. When the call closes, it goes back to the photo of Danny’s dick.
He allows himself to look at it, for real this time. “Goddamnit,” he mumbles. “This is the best dick I’ve ever seen.”
~
Full disclosure, this started as a HangMox fic, and then I realized that Mox isn't quite this much of a dumbass. But you know who is? Danny Garcia.

Love and Other Emotions
Word Count: 1330
Summary: Wheeler finally tells Danny how he feels, asks for help and causes the fans to lose their collective shit but oh well he’s got a hot boyfriend and good friends
A/N: Part of the Pure Brat Chronicles (starts with Punishing the Pure Brat)
Warnings: Excessive cuteness and fluff
Work Text:
“You love me? Like love me love me, the no one else for you kind of love me,” Danny softly asks his voice breaking,”cause I love you too, Wheels.”
Yep this right here was Heaven with his boyfriend who loves him back, Wheeler is absolutely positive this time. “Yeah baby boy. I couldn’t love you more if I tried. I think I’ve loved you since I met you when we were kids. I just didn’t know what exactly what it was I was feeling. Watching you get your heart broken by men that didn’t deserve you killed me every single time but I knew that I didn’t have any right to get upset about it when you weren’t mine.”
Having his boyfriend say something like that pulls at Danny’s heart and he can’t help but swoon at the idea of Wheeler claiming him long before he actually did. Not that he was also a little frustrated that he had to get his heart broken multiple times and all because Wheeler is a stubborn bastard. “Babe, can I ask you why you waited so long to finally tell me? I was single for a couple years before we really truly started this arrangement, if you’d said something 3 bad relationships ago I wouldn’t have been opposed to being yours.”
“I was afraid that you didn’t feel the same and that you’d walk out of my life because I was in love with you. I know it sounds dumb but I didn’t wanna hurt you anymore than your less than stellar boyfriends had. The only kind of pain I wanted to cause you was the kind you begged for and then I wanted to give you the entire world afterwards, forever. For the rest of our lives, baby boy.”
Getting Danny settled back against his side and his focus back on the movie, Yuta runs his hand up and down Danny’s arm thinking about the days events. Even after punishing Danny, Wheeler knows that he and Danny have a whole ‘nother slew of issues when they head to work including finally telling the important people in their lives. Danny still needs to apologize to Regal and Mox too but that can wait until Wheeler’s talked to both of them himself because he has to make sure that he’s still gonna have the BCC’s backing when they go public.
Wheeler gets so lost in thought of what had happened only hours before that feeling Danny attempting to burrow further into his arms, he startles. “D, what are you doing huh pretty boy?”
“Cuddle me, dammit Yuta. I want cuddles and you aren’t paying attention to me and I don’t like it,” Danny whines pushing at Wheeler’s arms again. “What are you even thinking about? You look kind of troubled about something and please don’t lie to me about it,” Danny’s voice changes and suddenly he’s looking at Wheeler with concern filled eyes completely ignoring the movie still playing on the tv. It scares him how quiet his boyfriend’s gotten and he’s hit with the sudden urge to fight whoever’s troubling Yuta.
Figuring out how exactly to explain the thoughts running through his mind, Wheeler pulls Danny a little closer and kisses him on top of the head. “Danny, how would you like if we went public with our relationship? I wanna be able to take you out to dinner and show you off. I’m not gonna tell anyone about the more intimate parts of our relationship just that I’m the lucky bastard in love with Daniel Garcia the biggest brat in All Elite Wrestling.”
“Okay, but what will everyone in BCC say? I don’t wanna mess up your relationships with your mentors,” Danny says emphasizing the your as if Regal and the rest of the group don’t treat him like family too.
“Don’t worry your pretty little head about it, baby boy. I’m gonna talk to Mox and Claudio tomorrow and see if they’ve got anything to say about us going public. Maybe one of them will have some advice or something to make it easier for us to finally let the world into our little world. But Daniel if you aren’t comfortable with it, we won't do it, because your comfort and safety are the most important things to me.”
“Let’s do it, but will you let me say sorry to Mox and Regal first? I know I shouldn’t have gotten mad at either of them for trying to help me. I’m sorry Wheels and I promise I’ll try to do better next time. If I need something I promise I’ll ask you before acting like a brat,” Danny says grinning and giggling towards the end.
“Okay baby boy you’ll apologize to Jon and Regal tomorrow morning over breakfast then I’ll talk to the guys about us. Now off to sleep Prince Charming it’s been a long day and I want all the snuggles with you.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Hey Mox, Claudio can I talk to you guys real quick?,” Wheeler asks catching up with 2 of his mentors.
“Yeah, what’s up Yuta,” Mox says spinning around to look at Wheeler.
“It’s about Danny and I don’t wanna say anything to him yet, but I wanna tell the world about us. He’s still freaked about the whole leaving JAS thing and I’m afraid that if we do go public that Sammy and the merry band of dipshits will say something. I’m supposed to protect him and what if he starts to realize that he was better off with them? I can’t lose hi-,” his voice cracks and he can see the look of understanding on both their faces especially Claudio’s. Wheeler is almost positive he knows what’s going on in the Swiss man’s mind and it terrifyingly gives him comfort.
“Wheeler, I can’t say that I can exactly understand what you’re going through with your fears because I can’t but I do know the feeling of exposing your relationship to the world. I know what it feels like to expose something so personal in this business and the terror you feel because not everyone in this industry is okay with guys being open with their sexuality. I was so afraid of the reaction when Seth and I told everyone about us given that he had a guaranteed shot at a world title. We worked for an angry old man that wasn’t okay with anyone talking about sexuality let alone being openly gay. I was terrified that old man would take Seth’s championship chance away but I knew that I would fight the world and everyone in it to protect him just like I know you’d do anything to protect Danny,” Claudio says with a hint of frustration and anger.
“How’d you do it though?,” Wheeler asks with intrigue.
“Easy, they had Roman and I. Jamie and Joey would’ve done anything for Seth if it made him happy and Claudio did make him happy still does I’m sure. Rome and I would’ve burnt the world down for our little scumbag brother and I knew they’d do the same for Renee and I. The girls backstage were fucking terrifying and I’m sure they could’ve made that rat bastards death look like an accident if they’d needed to,” Mox says with a smirk at Claudio, “Weren’t they? Wasn’t it Natty that threatened to whoop you if you harmed a hair on Seth’s pretty little head? Or was it Naomi and ‘Mina?”
“All 3 of them did, but to get back to what we were talking about you’ve got me and Mox. I know that Bryan and Regal will have your backs along with Kenny, the Bucks and Eddie. You know Eddie wouldn’t let anyone fuck with you and honestly I wouldn’t put it past him to be able to murder a man and make it look like Winnie the Pooh did it.”
Wheeler waits a couple weeks before posting this on Twitter and letting the fans lose their minds.
-Snappy Snack Shack/7-11 combo-
Dan and JD clink their Slushee cups together.
Dan: Together again and it feels so good, huh? -takes a sip-
JD: Y-yeah, it … kinda does actually… -sips-
Dan: That thing you pulled at the caf today was a surprise. Fighting for little old me against Kurt and Ram like that. -sips- I didn’t know you still cared. -playfully winks-
JD: I… didn’t know either, but it… felt right. -half smiles- Sucks we both got suspended for the week, and not those Neanderthals Kelly and Sweeney… “Scored the winning touch down and exempt from scorn”. You didn’t do anything wrong, Danny-boy, what the hell…
Dan: From Hawkins to Sherwood, the world doesn’t owe you a cent, eh? But we move on.
JD: Move… -kinda flinches-
Dan: Oops. Poor choice of words… Um… corn nuts? -shakes the honey roasted bag he’s been nursing-
JD: Sure. -takes some- Um on that topic, not to drudge up old business, Danny-boy, but I gotta know… Why did you leave me…?
Dan: -takes a long sip, trying to figure out the right way to explain- It… happened so fast. I got home after our last adventure with the Super Demogorgon, and my folks have the house all packed up and a moving van waiting. Dad got a better job here in Sherwood, and we had to leave right then. Well not RIGHT then, I showered real quick to get rid of the Demogorgon goop, but still. When we got to Columbus the next day for a pit stop, I tried to call your house, but Bud answered and told me not to waste his time and hung up.
JD: -just soaking it all in-
Dan: I tried calling again in Gallipolis hoping you’d pick up this time, but … no. -swirls his slushy with his straw- I wanted to write, but I knew you’d be gone by the time it got there…
JD: You tried… That’s more than anyone’s done before. -shifts uncomfortably- I… I’m sorry, Danny-boy. I was so mad at you then… I tried to convince myself it wasn’t your fault, but … but… but… Dad got to me… And I’ve been sitting on that static… until now. -tries to smile-
Dan: Closure feels pretty good, huh? -smiles- We’re gotdang lucky we got to have it. The stars aligned in our favor, huh?
JD: -sips but gives a look of agreement- …Well since we got a week to kill, whaddya want to do?
Dan: Oh I’m sure we’ll find something to do. You know how it worked back then: we got into trouble or trouble found us, haha. …Heh. -looks a little disturbed, his mind wandering to Hawkins again-
JD: -recognizes what’s happening and snaps his fingers in Dan’s face- Just freeze your brain, Danny-boy. That’s what… works for me.
-They clink cups, take a big sip, and both recoil in a pained brain freeze. They look at each other and start laughing.-
JD: Care for another hit? -shakes his empty cup-
Dan: Haha, sure, I’ll buy. -goes to the register-
JD: -watches Dan pay, has a tired look but is smiling. Notices Kurt and Ram are in the store getting beer and magazines, and narrows his eyes evilly.-
-Kurt and Ram had been in the store for a while trying to keep their distance but had been also eavesdropping. They notice JD giving them the evil eye and decide it’s time to leave. Kurt drops some of his magazines, and hastily picks them up, and JD notices a couple issues of Stud Puppy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and He-Man & The Masters of the Universe mixed in with the Playboy magazines and his expression switches to a puzzled look as the two jocks rush out.-
Dan: Everything ok, Jason? -is back carrying two drinks and hands one to JD-
JD: Huh? Oh. -takes his Slushee- Very, Danny-boy. -the two clink cups again and smile-
@hiddenxshadowsx
.
Coming to terms with what happened and what was now his new reality, had been a curve ball and roller coaster all at one. He didn’t live a quiet enough life to really slow down, not with being a father as well as his job in law enforcement. He did his best to adapt, but that’s mostly been in gaining enough control to not be so obvious to the people around him that he was a werewolf.
The issue came when Rachel told him she’d be taking Grace for the whole summer to England to visit her mother. That didn’t work well with Danny. Having Grace so far away wasn’t something he was ever comfortable with, less so when she was the thing that kept him calm when he was close to losing it. She was his anchor and he needed her close enough. So he ended up going too. On his own dime, taking a small loan from Steve who thankfully understood, though Danny also saw the questioning in there. But Steve was caught up in his own family dramas that Danny’s took a backseat.
He got some days alone with Grace, which made the whole thing worth it. Danny knew that she sometimes struggled with some light bullying when she was younger because she would say something things with a British accent or terminology. Danny never wanted her to feel ashamed of any part of herself. So he enjoyed having her explore every bit of London they could see...
Every few places he felt his instincts flare. His inner wolf scratching to the surface but he had no idea why. It was like an itch but he had no idea what caused it.
As much as he dreaded it, the full moon eventually arrived.
He said goodbye to Grace after spending the day together and even having proper tea. He then ventured off away from civilization and wandered deep into a forest, not stopping until instincts took over and the wolf over took every bit of him, mind and body.
When he wakes up the next morning, he’s covered in mud, dirt, and thankfully only some slight blood. It might even be his own. Or at least nothing bigger than a bird or rabbit.
Tumblr media
He begins to walk but in all honesty, he had no idea how deep or far away from civilization he was. His senses after the full moon dulled and he was deeply exhausted.
Some feet later, he comes across a dog. “Huh...maybe I’m not too far from town. Any way you can lead me back, boy? One canine to another...I’m fucking lost.”
do you have any angst no one knows au headcanon?
[Undercover AU]
So it’s angst you want, huh? (¬ω¬)
How about some from before the AU takes place?
For one, Anon’s extremely heartbreaking take on how Danny got his powers (suicide tw)
For another: Danny was really, extremely, legitimately serious about a career in space. I mean, the way that Jazz is already talking about college, Danny was too, but long before her. He had all kinds of academic plans ready, from doubling AP Physics with AP Computer Science in senior year, to a yearly-updated and thoroughly-researched list of the top universities for aeronautical engineering pinned up over his desk right alongside those NASA posters.
….that all stopped abruptly after the accident, once he realized he’d already failed step 1 on the extremely competitive list of physical requirements to become an astronaut: be alive.
He tore up and crumpled every bit of research for his future after that. Shredded the NASA posters. dropped any honors classes he’d been enrolled in during that first month at Casper High. Hell, for a long time, he even stopped looking up at the moon at night, knowing it was so far beyond his reach now that it wasn’t even funny.
After that comes the self-doubt. Did he really think he was smart enough to beat out the competition, anyway? Sure, he comes from a “family of geniuses”, but his “family of geniuses” are also batshit crazy half the time.
Runs in the family, doesn’t it.
Ultimately, his future, and his accident, are both extremely sore spots for him, and for over a year, he’s had nobody to talk to about any of it. So even if he pushes that all down and caps it off with a tight lid, there’s potential for it all to come bubbling up now. He may not be fully dead, but he’s still got half a life to grieve.
Or, mid-AU?
Danny is very in his head about whether he should have human friends or not. Should be allowed to have human friends or not. As luck would have it, Sam and Tuck rope him into it and it’s good, but.
When one of them gets hurt, it’s undeniably his fault.
You can imagine that doesn’t go down well.
After the two of them meet Fenton, Danny tries to push them away. He brushes them off, ignores them, snubs them… until he just can’t, any more. Can’t cold-shoulder them at school and then turn up at night as Phantom for some good ol’ teenage hijinks. He just can’t live his life so two-faced.
Only… they’ve lost interest in Fenton. Rude, superiority-complex, loner asshole Fenton.
Somehow after he patches things up with them, comes a fresh issue: he’s now lying to them double-time, and the guilt only becomes more and more oppressive with every false word out of his mouth.
...and, last but not least, Sam and Tucker angst?
Neither of them had so fully confronted the reality of death and dying, and what it means to be dead until they met Phantom.
It’s unsettling, to say the least.
As they learn bits and pieces of Phantom’s life and death, and his afterlife, it doesn’t paint a pretty picture. And the fact he’s like a steel trap when it comes to volunteering information is frustrating (and worrying) as all hell, too.
Down the line, when they’re close to Fenton too, and all the truth comes to light, hoo boy are the two of them hurt by all the lies, the half-truths, and the plain bottom line: Danny never fully trusted them.
I can’t say for sure if any of these ideas will inform what or how I write the comics, but they’re very fun to get my grubby lil hands all over regardless >:3c
sam kiszka x fem! reader
summary: sam protects y/n from the horrors of the local haunted house
   “come on, guys, we gotta go,” jake whined. “it looks so cool.” his twin leaning his forearm on his shoulder and nodding his head rapidly.
   “i don't know guys. we have an early morning,” danny chastised. he looked at sam for back up but sam was too busy with the person beside him. sam looked down at the smaller girl beside him with a small smirk. they had been arguing over whether abba was a good band or not, she obviously thinks they were (because they are). sam wasn’t nearly as heated about the topic as she was, but he just enjoyed watching her get worked up. her cheeks filled with orange coloring and her nose crinkled when he said something she particularly disliked. he often wondered if her cheeks tasted like oranges, too. he hoped to find out soon.
   “sam! can you please pay attention for five seconds? we are trying to figure out what to do tonight,” josh snapped his fingers in their general direction.
   “wha-huh? the haunted house? sure we can go, i don't care,” he turned towards the girl beside him with his eyebrows raised.
   “ummm, i think it sounds fun but there's an odd number of us and usually you pair off to go into a house and i don't want anyone to be left out so maybe i can go another time? that way you guys can all go together?” she questioned softly. there was no malice or jealousy in her voice at the idea of being the one to not go. she stared up at the four boys, her doe eyes filled with care. all four boys cooed at her; she was so sweet. her cheeks filled with orange coloring again.
   “you can’t just not go. we will make it work, okay?,” josh reminded her tenderly. the three other men voicing their agreements. she often forgot that she was wanted around here, but they were all working on it.
   “if you don’t want to go, i can stay behind with you if that's the issue. but, seriously, we want you to come; i want you to come,” sam tilted his chin down to make eye contact with her and pulled her closer as he set his left hand in between her shoulder blades. her cheeks had to be the brightest orange shade; they looked exactly like two rounded pumpkins that sam couldn’t wait to get his hands on.
✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿
   jake was in the driver's seat with his twin in the passenger and the other two boys sandwiching in the tolkien female of the group. everyone is jamming out to the collaborative playlist they have specifically for car rides. sam was dressed in his tiny short shorts he wears and a fun graphic t-shirt with a gold chain. he looked so good with his long brown hair and twinkling brown eyes as the sun set behind him, haloing his head.
   he was just as emanored as she was. she was wearing her famous flare pants paired with a shirt with a skeleton on it and some fun spooky socks to match. she was so cute, all festive. he couldn’t look away. he just wanted to pinch those full cheeks and look at her forever. the car coming to a stop and jake yelling in celebration brought the both of them out of their heads.
   “woah, this is so cool,” she squealed while tucking her hands under chin. her head whips side to side, trying to take it all in. she couldn’t pick out just one thing she wanted to look like first. the haunted house was at a fall festival. she adored it. danny quickly reached out and grasped the back of the neck of her shirt at the same time sam reached out to grip her belt loop. she was gonna make a run for it, they knew it.
   she never did it intentionally; she just got so excited and wandered off and then by the time they noticed, she was long gone and they all had to scramble to find her. most of the time, it was sam who found her. the boys always joke that they have “trained” her because after the first few times of her disappearing and everyone freaking out, they developed a system where sam would call her and she would find somewhere to sit to wait for them to find her whilst staying on the phone. the system quickly developed once they realized how often she does this.
   “nuh-uh. no you don’t. no running away today; it is a week before halloween and this place is crazy busy and we are not losing you. it’s too crowded and there’s creeps everywhere,” sam gently reprimanded her. “when we are in a crowd like this, make sure you are holding onto someone, okay? we can get separated easily and i don’t want to lose you.” she nodded her head. danny reached out to lovingly ruffle her hair. the twins watched on in amusement and slight admiration. if anyone can talk her down, it would be sam.
   “come on, the house is this way.” danny and jake led the group with josh in the middle. she softly held her small ring covered hand out to sam with a shy smile. her eyes couldn't meet his as her cheeks filled in with orange again. he smiled at her with such warmth and clasped her hand in his. when they made it to a particularly crowded area so she reached her empty hand out to grab his forearm to ensure she didn’t get lost. they stepped into line which was luckily short.
   “danny,” she peered up at the tall man through her eyelashes. “do you want to be my buddy?” she gave him a sweet smile that he couldn’t turn down, not that he wanted to. sam was his best buddy and she was great. his lifelong best friend and a new person that was coming to a close second. “i guess sammy can join, too.” she teased with a mischievous eye. sam pinched her.
   danny agreed. she squeaked in excitement and gave a few little hops. all four men cooed, again. the line moved up. it was their turn next. her hand was still clasped in sam’s hand and she held her other out to danny, which he took. jesus, her hands were small. danny had held her hand once or twice but he never had a chance to truly realize how small hers were. he glanced up at sam with a shocked expression and sam made eye contact with a knowing look that read “i know, right?” sam held up their intertwined hands to show that his literally swallowed her’s m. he gently opened their palms to showcase that her fingertips only met the space between the tip of his finger and his second knuckle.
   she was nervous; she couldn’t stop fidgeting with her feet. sam squeezed her hand and said “if it’s too much, just close your eyes and i will lead you out, okay?”
   they all stepped up to the house. it was dark and loud and scary. she couldn’t lie, though, it looked kind of fun. the twins led the way with the three following. she liked this arrangement because then jake and josh got the worst of the scares. her nerves slightly melted away after going through the first few rooms with only small scares. she relaxed.
   what a mistake that was.
   just as her shoulders dropped from their tensed position, a man jumped out of the closet behind her. the three in the back all jumped and twisted around to look. danny let go of her hand but sam gripped on tighter. she took the worst of it. the man was right behind her head and she jumped so high in the air. she lost all confidence after that. the next few rooms got scarier and scarier. she started to slightly tremble from so many jumps and frights.
   there was a slight back up so they slowed down to a stop in one of the rooms. sam frowned at her shakiness and pulled her closer behind him. she cowered and tucked her head in the space between his shoulder blades. his hands reached behind him to grip both of her hands in his. he started to lead her along with him to safety. fortunately there were only a few more rooms left and they went pretty quickly. everyone was pretty shaken up after that.
   “hey, we’re out. it’s okay,” he soothed with his head tilted over his shoulder. she nuzzled in closer as she heard the chainsaws and screams from the house. “wanna come out?’ he eventually coaxed her out from his back. he just wrapped his arm around her shoulder, and her’s around his waist, as they walked away from the traumatizing area.
✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿✿
   later on they were all standing in line at the ferris wheel. they had cars that could fit all five of them. jake, josh and danny on one bench with the other two on the opposing bench.
   “you did great today, you know? i’m very proud of you for doing the whole house,” sam offered to her. she smiled at him gratefully and nuzzled into him. he lifted his arm to sit behind her back and she tucked her head in the hollow space between his chest and shoulder. he placed a gentle kiss to the top of her head. she glanced up at him through her eyelashes. they both leaned in. it was a small kiss, definitely not their first, but not their last either. josh snapped a picture of them as danny cooed at them. jake just smiled and looked away.
   the two of them separated. her cheeks filled with orange again as she met his eyes. she looked like a cute little pumpkin. his little pumpkin. he pressed a kiss to her cheek as she tucked her head back into his spot. man, did he live the color orange.
How about A for Reality Trip for the episode rewrite thing?
my biggest issue with reality trip is that its just a series of travelling around to non connected locations to get the mcguffins, and while danny’s secret being public matters somewhat, it doesn’t really impact the fact that they’re on the move too much. I also don’t like the ‘maddie and jack accept him perfectly and then he wipes everyones minds anyway’ cause that doesnt do anything. i DO like the “our summer vacation plans got ruined thanks to a ghost” angle so i want the themes of the episode to focus on danny’s frustration that nothing ever goes right and how he doesn’t even know what he wants
so i think in my rewrite:
-danny’s secret is out almost immediately, and it’s because the GIW shot him w a destabilizer and he publicly morphed (he got away thanks to shenanigans similar to the onstage debacle in canon) how this is thematic: he thought he didn’t want the secret out at all but, weirdly, a lot of the popular kids are fine with it. he’s still afraid of what his parents will think but he’s also frustrated that he had unfounded fears
-however, when danny (terrified) goes to his parents: theyre gone. freakshow has taken jack/maddie/jazz/etc and frozen them in some magic bubble bullshit or mind control or whatever so they don’t actually know. freakshow is sending danny on a fetch quest for the gems thematic relevance: he just hyped himself up for this conversation and they got yanked away
using these two, i think we can keep a similar opening/setup for the ep, ie freakshow in GIW containment until he breaks out, for setup-payoff
regrettably this still keeps the fetchquest aspect that i think makes reality trip broken in the first place, but since the first freakshow ep was about danny being evil I think it could be neat if we had some of that carried over into this. the ‘reality stones’ (since we live in a post mcu world now, we regrettably would have to change some of this, but i digress) respond highly to ecto activity or whatever, basically meaning that with every new one they get danny becomes a little more powerful. since everything is going wrong for him (see: the theme) and he doesn’t know what he wants, he starts to get a liiitttle power-hungry. A little messed up in the head.
ideally then there should be a way to work Vlad into this plot too. i’m a sucker for dadvlad tbh so let’s say that... when the Fentons first get kidnapped danny begrudgingly goes to vlad like “my mom and dad are kidnapped” and vlad may be a dick but he doesnt want his college crushes (or crush singular if i’m forced to be canon compliant) locked up so he’s helping. at first hes like “oh my boy daniel let Me hold the Magic Rocks surely you trust me haha >:)” and then later hes like “....son these rocks are turning your brain into goo.” course nobody believes him cause its all a ploy all the time forever and always
since danny’s secret is out too that means theyre actively on the run and vlad can’t always be There because he’s relatively high profile in either form, just for different reasons, so we can make him more of a “i did research offscreen and i think this gem is in x location but I can’t go there because i’m a bitch” type character
i DO like the intelligent aladdin-like ploy of ghost envy in the original but ‘ghost envy’ as a theme has to be reworked at least slightly for this, so also with danny being evil let’s say he’s feeling the scales tip especially after his reveal to the point where he’s feeling like he’d be better off if he was living his life entirely as a ghost.
of course when they get the things to freakshow danny has the gauntlet and hes all like “im evil now and i will kill you” and sam/tucker/maybe vlad are like “but danny. you have friends.” and we get a montage/list of allusions of those times that they actually helped him on this fetch quest, like idk sam at a rock concert using loud horrible teenage music to chase the GIW out etc. they got souvenirs from everywhere they went. so danny sees this and hes like “oh noooo my humanity” and drops and in that split second freakshow grabs the gauntlet
and dannys like “oh great even NOW nothing EVER goes right for me” but because i put vlad here and because i like parallels vlad is like “so what are you gonna wimp out” or whatever he says. they probably had a somewhat heartfelt speech earlier about “why are you helping” “I care about jack and maddie being alive” “bro they hate you” “not everything has to go right for me to give a shit, daniel” or w/e
so before danny can overreact with his rage he remembers to work with what he has and pulls the fast-thinking “oh i bet you wish you were a ghost huh” trick that allows him to put freakshow in the thermos. then danny goes to get the glove and hes like “wait... no... that turns my brain into goo” and vlad is like “how about i get it :)” and danny is like “no youre evil” and vlads like “damn u caught me”
so sam and tucker actually use the gauntlet bc theyre not ghosts so their brain wont get fucky wucky. obvs they make the decision to wipe peoples memories of dannys identity but theyre also like “danny... don’t you at least want to see how your parents would react before we do this” and danny just sorta. shakes his head and repeats some “not everything has to go right for me to give a shit” line from vlad or something and of course its cause hes still insecure but also he’s okay with not having PERFECT control over everything now which is what he struggled with all episode so. character growth!
i feel like me saying “vlad should be here :)” is a staple that might lead to his character losing some of that original allure but like... honestly. vlad should be here :)
before the memory wipe dash makes out with him but that was a given
Shielded From The Truth
Cross posted on A03: https://archiveofourown.org/works/30441042 -.-.-.-.- Warnings: Mild wounds. Number two in the phic phight! When his parents put a shield up around Casper high to keep the ghosts out, and it means that Danny’s day hardly goes to plan. And he was so close to being on time for once too…. PHIC PHIGHT 2021 For team ghost! -.-.-.-.-.- Prompt by: Silverwing013 Danny's parents have kindly offered to set up a ghost shield generator for Casper High. Hijinks ensue as Danny attempts to handle the situation.
-.-.-.-.-.-
Danny groaned as he only half listened to his parents rattle off whatever ghost nonsense they were going on about as he ate his breakfast. A bowl of dry cereal because the milk was contaminated and he really didn’t want to chance it giving him more than a stomach ache. This had become the norm this week it seemed as his parents seemed invested more than usual into the ghost shields that they had been working on and improving.
Why only shields? They would be installing one in the school soon… but beyond that? He wasn’t sure. They probably told him, sure, but being a teenager and one that had parents that hated half of him, had the effect of making him only lightly listen to the weapons and things that were meant to fully kill him off. That and at least the ghost shields weren’t usually a hindrance to him, in fact, they had proven themselves useful on a few occasions.
Plus he had the added advantage of being able to simply return to his human form and slip through the shield with little issue. Given his parents had no knowledge of half ghosts existing, at least he hoped not, they shouldn’t be designing a ghost and human shield. After all, that would defeat the purpose, right? It wasn’t as if Amity really had any human threats anymore.
Well, regardless of the eccentricities of his parents he could at least take some comfort in the fact that Skulker couldn’t simply attack the school to get to him any longer.
Small mercies he supposed.
Danny blinked as his father said something to him before slapping him on his back causing the teen to practically choke on his cereal from the force of the smack. “Isn’t that just great Dann-o?” the large man exclaimed happily before looking at his son expectantly. Oh great, he wanted him to ask something? Great.
“S-Sure” Danny choked out as he flailed, grabbing in front of him for the orange juice he had nabbed from the fridge, it thankfully hadn’t been in there long enough to start glowing… yet…
He shook his head as he finally got his breath back without inhaling dry cereal pieces into his lungs. When he was sure he wasn’t going to sound like some dollar store squeaky toy he tried to ask his parents a question, always a dreadful time if he were honest, but hey, he would usually be late for school anyway.
“So this will go around the whole school?” Danny tried weakly.
“Yep! And the best part is it’ll sense where there's an evil ectoplasmic entity nearby and spring up instantly! We made sure there won’t be a ghost within Twenty feet of the school before that puppy jumps up to the rescue! Like a big Fenton airbag!” Jack exclaimed all too enthusiastically for what the current time in the AM should allow a normal person to exhume.
Danny hummed noncommittally and sent a glance of ‘help me’ to his sister, who, in turn, rolled her eyes at her little brother. “And the shield even uses the ghost’s power to run the shield right?” Jazz asked side eyeing her father from her own spot not wanting to fully engage in the conversation they were having.
“Oh, yea! That’s the best part!” Jack practically cheered out.
“And the stronger the evil skum is the faster the shield will react and sooner it will be picked up. It will only go off on a level three or higher.” Maddie explained with a pleasant smile as she sips at her coffee.
“And we got it all finished last night to be ready for you kids today” Jack added happily.
“Hooray, more fun on a Monday” Danny sighed out into his last bites of cereal. Jazz snorted but didn’t comment, though Danny blew her a childish raspberry.
Jack continued to go on about the more intricate details of the shield they had put up though only one thing really caught his attention in the spiel, “-And Vladdie helped with the funding to outfit the school! Even helped us get the materials we needed to make such a large shield!”
“Ah, there it is…” Danny groaned letting his head fall forward onto the table in instant defeat.
“Danny! I really wish you would learn not to stay up so late playing video games! Look at you! If I get another call from one of your teachers about you sleeping in class-” Maddie started only for Danny to cut her off jumping to his feet.
“Yep! Thanks for that, mom! Look at the time! Love you bye!” Danny prattled off quick as could be before grabbing his book bag by his feet and bolting like a scared rabbit. After all, if his mother never finished that sentence when he inevitably fell asleep he couldn’t be grounded… she never officially gave him the last warning…
That’ll work, right?
It wasn’t long when he was out of the house that he was at his usual waiting spot for Sam and Tucker. Unsurprisingly, Sam got there first though they didn't have to wait long for Tucker to lumber forward, half asleep to his friends, and together they made their way towards the school as a unit.
Things seemed well enough until he got onto the stairs leading up to the main doors. That was when all hell broke loose. A deep alarm sounded before his father’s voice rang out from the speakers, in his over the top cheery way that only Jack Fenton knew how to pull off.
“Attention kids! Guess there’s an evil spook nearby so we’re deploying the shield! This ghost protection was brought to you by Fenton-works and sponsored by your mayor!”
Danny frowned. “My ghost sense didn’t go off…” He mentioned quietly to his friends.
“Maybe the shield sensors are more sensitive than you are?” Tucker asked with a frown.
“Since when?” Sam argued incredulously.
“Well who or whatever it is, it isn’t bothering me right now and no one’s screaming, no one’s panicking, so it can wait. I’m actually going to be on time for once!” Danny says waving the notion off.
He continues his trek up the stairs and towards the doors of the school, though when he reaches the threshold of the shield he finds himself having to really push hard against the thing. It was like hitting a wall of foam or Jell-O. He could push through if he pressed hard enough but it was not pleasant or as easy as going through the air.
Once through the initial shield wall, he blinked slowly feeling sluggish and as though all his limbs were moving through water. He even sort of felt like he was having to ‘swim’ as he walked like he was both heavier and lighter than he should be, but unable to find that buoyancy happy middle ground.
“Dude…” Tucker said smartly as he frowned at his friend’s almost slow motion, yet stop motion like movements. It was eerie, to say the least, not to mention the more pressing issue that he noticed right off the hop, “Your eyes are shining, man. And your, um… Neck...”
Sam, ever prepared for whatever bull their lives seem to throw their way, slipped her bag around to her front and offered Danny a pair of sunglasses, which the halfa put on promptly, along with the spider webbed patterned black and silver scarf.  “I mean, it’s better,” Sam argued, not even giving Tucker's look of disapproval her full attention.
“They’re spider glasses.” The boy states with a shake of his head. “Not really digging the whole-” Tucker waved his arm about Danny’s head in little circles, “-pseudo goth thing” he finished finally. Though he had to admit it was at least marginally better than seeing his friend’s glowing eyes and the electric scars showing up on his neck and disappearing under his shirt collar.
“Better?” Danny asked out sluggish, his voice almost sounding like it was being drawn out on a tape deck that was starting to lack battery power and not playing at quite the proper speed making the pitch and timing slower and lower.
Sam and Tucker shared a look before offering a thumbs up to their friend, both deciding it better not to address… whatever that was… The look they shared between one another spoke of their mutual hope that this would perhaps be one of those problems that simply go away on its own.
Ignoring the problems they have usually makes it go away… Yeah, that always works out.
Danny makes a grab for the door to pull it open again, having that weird slow stop motion effect, like he was flickering between blinks rather than making a smooth motion forward. “Ehm, maybe don’t move around too much man… it’s um… creeping me out.” Tucker offers helpfully.
“Huh?” it took Danny a minute to process, as while he looked slow to them they seemed to be hyped up on caffeine to him… “Why are you talking so fast?” He wondered, his head almost appearing to glitch into a tilted and confused look.
“I think the ghost shield is making you go all slow motion. Just stop talking.” Sam says forcefully before letting out a shudder of her own.
Sam and Tucker share a glance before they each grab onto one of Danny’s arms and half drag him off to his locker. Despite his friends’ efforts he still got many looks shot his way, and a couple of people started whispering to one another as he passed by them.
“How is this going to work if I’m already weirding everyone out?” Danny asked, voice still sounding like a slowed record as he blinked sluggishly and his head jerked almost unsteadily from side to side. From his perspective, everyone was speeding along and talking at 1.5 times the normal speed.
“Maybe I should look for the ghost that triggered this, maybe Tuck, can you look into this mess?” Danny asked after a moment of trying to figure out what was being said around him through the noise of the hall.
“Yeah that might be best…” Sam responded shifting from leg to leg as she locks eyes with a basketball jock who was staring at their group incredulously.
“I got you, man, I’ll change everything to present and, block any ‘call home’ recommendations.” Tucker pipped up already pulling out his PDA to set that up preemptively.
Danny nodded and let out a hum before glitching his way out the nearest exit and out of the shield’s bounds. Once he slipped back out through the barrier, strangely enough, a harder feat than it was getting in, but that wasn’t a problem he wanted to focus on, he already blamed Vlad so he would simply continue to do so until the fruitloop showed himself.
As soon as he was through the green line of the shield Danny practically fell forward in relief. That stifling feeling now gone from his core and bones making his movements fluid and normal, well as normal as a clumsy half ghost could be anyhow…
It was a moot point and not one Danny wanted to think on too long. He gave a quick “thanks” to his friends, before diving between the dumpster and the school’s bricks, transforming into his ghostly alter ego and taking off into the sky. He would do a few laps around the school and city as he looks for whatever ghost set off the shield.
-BREAK-
It wasn’t until lunchtime Danny returned looking much more windswept and all around more miserable. He entered the courtyard through the side joining his friends out on the picnic table they had claimed.  He made it over to them, flopped down on the bench next to tucker with a groan before his head smacked into the table before him.
“You find them?” Tucker asked around whatever horrid monstrosity of a sandwich he was eating, spewing bits of half chewed bred at Danny’s head.
“No” Came the muffled reply, filled with tired disdain.
“No ghost sense?” Sam wandered, flicking the bits of bread from Danny’s raven hair and back towards Tucker.
“No”
“Huh… You think it was you who set off the shield?”  Sam wondered with a thoughtful frown.
“When I went into the back end of the generator though it wasn’t supposed to go off for anything that low, Danny in human form is like a two at best,” Tucker argued spinning his PDA around to show what he’d found when he hacked into the motherboard of the Fenton’s latest device.
Danny groaned. He supposed had he listened to his parents he could have been more prepared for whatever lunacy his parents’ decided to toss his way but alas, his short attention span and teenage rebellion and lack of caring got the best of him yet again.
Joyous of joys.
He tuned out his friend’s back and forthing for a bit, wondering if he could get away with smashing the device as Phantom when Tucker had his a-ha moment of discovery. Danny turned his head and raised a brow at his friend who was furiously typing away at his device.
“You were right about Vlad, Sam”
“Naturally,” She agreed.
“Well, he had an over right line here specifically set for Phantom’s ecto- signature,” the boy states running his finger along the line of code he’d found in the program.
Danny’s mood instantly brightened at that. “So then we just get rid of that bit right? And BAM everything’s fine?” He asked. “Man, what happened to me? Why do I want to get into the school again?”
“To keep up the illusion of normalcy on this mortal plane.” Sam supplied stabbing at her salad a little more forcefully than she probably needed to.
“Eh, yeah, I suppose.” Danny agreed with a lacklustre shrug.
“There, that should do it” Tucker spoke, interrupting whatever tangent Sam was getting ready to spew off about how normalcy was only an illusion created by corporations or some other such thing.
“And just in time The bell just rang,” Danny says with a small grin clasping a firm hand onto his friend’s shoulder. “Nice one Tucker!” he cheered as the trio made their way over to the doors that would lead them back into the cafeteria.
Unfortunately, as soon as Danny’s hand hit the door handle the shield once again sprung to life, though this time, instead of simply having a hard time passing through the shield, he was thrown back across the field earning a cry from several students who were following the trio.
“Grapes of wrath Mister Fenton!” Lancer, (of course it was Lancer) shouted out in worry, his shout even carrying over the prerecorded message containing his father’s voice. Lancer half jogged half waddled over to Danny who blinked up blearily to his teacher, eyes flashing green for the briefest of seconds before draining back to blue.
“Leave it to Fen-turd to get himself possessed.” Dash snorted from behind the pot bellied teacher earning a few nervous glances between the small crowd of gathering students. The mutterings of the students didn’t take long to start up after that.
“I’m not possessed,” Danny argued, though, it was rather hard to make said argument when the palm of his hand was burned and leaking ectoplasm from where he had touched the door.
“Course he’s not possessed! He’s a ghost himself!” Wes shouted pointing an accusatory finger at the youngest Fenton.
Danny glared. “Not the time Westly.” He muttered under his breath as he was hauled to his feet by his friends. He tried to brush himself off only to end up smearing the ectoplasm from his hand onto his jeans, leaving a luminescent streak across his thigh.
Seeing his chance the ginger jock was all too eager to point it out. “See look! He’s bleeding ectoplasm!”
“No, I’m not! It’s from the shield! it sputtered out at me.” Danny tried to protest, though even in his own ears it sounded like a weak argument.
“Really?” Wes argued and marched over to the shimmering shield. The teen waved his arms about freely in the shield’s range hopping back and forth pointedly across the line of the barrier before showing his hands and clothes were completely clean of any glowing goo. “See! Ghost!” he accused again after he did a little pirouette to show his lack of ectoplasm.
“Yeah? Well, it sputtered at Danny only ‘cuz it turned on with him in the threshold.” Sam tried to argue back glaring at the ginger, venom in her gaze.
“Well then, why don’t you just walk through the shield Fen-toad?” Dash said with a smarmy grin, ever eager to get his own jabs in and seemingly not wanting to be outshined by the ginger conspiracy theorist’s bullying of his favourite punching bag.
“Fine” He spat back bitterly and marched up to the shield with a huff.
Sam and Tucker exchange a glance with one another as Danny presses his hand into the shield again. Thankfully this time there wasn’t anything that blows him back but he also really had to try and push through the shield.
Danny could see out of the corner of his eye Wes’s smug grin as he grunts and does his best to push through the shield. His persistence is rewarded and he falls to the ground on the other side jumping up and giving a quick ‘HA!’ as he faces the small gathering crowd of students shifting uncomfortably just beyond the shield.
Sam had a look of exasperation and she looked like she was trying to restrain herself from face palming. Tucker on the other hand had no such restraint. He was almost over eager to bury his face into his hands.
From Danny’s perspective, he simply smacked into the ground and stood back up, but from the other students’ perspectives, Danny fell into the shield but instantly slowed down, looking as though he were falling with the moon’s gravity rather than the earthly speed everyone was used to. It also didn’t really look to them like he had hit the ground, instead glitching his body back into an upright position before cheering in that low slow motion state as he had earlier.
And if that wasn’t damning enough his eyes were glowing a lovely shade of ectoplasmic green.
Wes smirked, seemingly very smug and content with himself and this development. “See told you all he was a ghost!”
“T-that’s enough Mister Weston… Right…” LAncer muttered to himself a few moments watching as Danny seemed to glitch about as he cheered before seemingly realizing something was wrong. “I think there was a procedure to depossess a student…I bet the teachers in Bridgestone don’t have to exercise their students in this manner…” He complains. Sure they had gym class and he would appreciate the pun and irony if he wasn’t so tired.
“I don’t get paid enough for this,” he muttered, ignoring the look of panic that spread across Danny’s face.
It took some doing, a lot of flailing limbs and pressing himself against the damn shield, but Danny soon was through back out and free. His eyes still glowed brightly as he stared at his classmates looking very much like a deer in the headlights. Eyeshine and all might he add.
A few of the students were snickering, because only in Amity park could one get possessed by a ghost and have it come across as though someone had merely said something embarrassing or misheard an instruction and was now staring blankly ahead.
“Er….” Danny stared at his classmates half panicked before simply vanishing from view.
“Moby Dick!” Lancer exclaimed, almost dropping the book he was thumbing through from the Fenton parents. Sure it was a ghost, and could potentially be dangerous, but it wasn’t attacking so there wasn’t really anyone panicking.
Instead, the teacher simply felt tired. “Right, I’ll call the Fentons and let them deal with this, Everyone back inside I do believe the lunch bell rang already!” the teacher called out shooing the students into dispersing.
Danny stood there invisibly and holding strong as he internally groaned. At least they thought he was possessed, that could be easily explained away but he was not looking forward to trying to explain it to his parents…
Still maybe if he gets ahead of this…
It was with that thought in mind that he bolted away into the treeline beside the school, transformed and headed off to his home landing in his bedroom only a few minutes later. He went human, back intangible and invisible came out the door, made sure the coast was clear before speeding his way down into the basement.
He just made it down the stairs startling his mother and father who blinked at him curiously, when the phone rang cutting off his mother’s “Honey? What are you doing home so soon?”
“It’s the school calling Mads,” Jack says, sounding disappointed as the large man sent a look of disapproval to his boy.
“Wait!” Danny jumped forward answering the phone and instantly hanging it up.
“Daniel!” His mother exclaimed abashedly.
“I wanna explain first! Do you know how all your stuff goes off on me? Well, the shield at school started doing that and they think I’m possessed! I’m not, it's just the… ya know…” Danny rambled off hurriedly hoping against hope that his parents wouldn’t try to send him to decontamination … again… (Thanks to his ghost half, it burned in places he didn’t ever want to burn)
“You’re possessed Dann-o?!” Jack exclaimed instantly pulling a Fenton gun from somewhere on his person and brandishing it towards his son.
Danny threw his hands up and waved them placatingly at his father. “NO! Just the normal stuff! The contamination from the portal accident set it off. I got too close to the sensor!” He says quickly ignoring how his parents seem to flinch slightly.
His parents shared a look before his father seemed to deflate, seemingly upset at the fact his son wasn’t possessed. “I thought we fixed that... “ Jack says with a frown. “But, we can’t let the school know we may have messed it up! I know we’ll just run the tests again and fix it in the night!”
“Yeah, that would be- Wait what?” Danny blinks. Why couldn’t they just go down and fix it normally? Of course, his parents had to be weird about this too. “Thanks… Is there anything you need from me to help?”
And with those words said he almost instantly regretted it. “Well… We would really like to know why your ecto signature lines up perfectly with Phantom’s but perhaps that can wait.” Maddie offered with a small amused smile.
Danny sputtered at that, “Wh-What?”
“We set up a monitoring system so we can tell which ghosts most frequent the school… Phantom was the one that triggered the shield twice today. There actually wasn’t anything else that did,” Maddie explained with a deepening frown.
“You sure you’re not possessed, son?” Jack asked again this time sounding almost defeated in how, well, normal a volume he asked that. The hidden meaning was all too obvious especially after he mentioned his accident…
They thought he was dead! The portal killed him! And as the growing pit of dread grew into Danny’s stomach he couldn’t help but feel awful knowing they were correct in that assumption, well at least half right anyhow.
“Yeah… I’m… I’m me…” Danny managed out his voice cracking
“O-oh hun....” Maddie sniffed.
“But it’s not I… I’m me, I promise and I’m not all dead. I still have a heartbeat and everything!” Danny argued or rather tried to as his mother was quick to kneel before him taking his face in her hands as tears bubbled down her chin.
“Mom really I’m like … half at most. More human with a side of ghostly abilities ya know?”
“Oh, it’s okay Dann-o… You're still my son, I know ya are. It’s been almost a year since that accident and you’re mostly still you.” Jack said. “Just worse grades and more hormones and-”
“Thanks, guys really,” Danny sighed in relief both at dodging the potentially awkward birds and ghostly bees talk as well as the tepid acceptance he was getting. Awkward though it may be it was still acceptance nonetheless.  He was happy for it just the same.
“Maybe while we work on fixing up the shield to ignore Phantom’s signature you can tell us about some things?” Maddie asked sniffling again as she looked over her son’s face trying her best to hold herself together and not outright bawl at the thought she had killed her youngest child.
“Y-yeah… I’ve been wanting to tell you about this for a while now but, well, ya know…” Danny offered uselessly.
“I think it’s us who should apologize for that, son but maybe we can just all go get some triple chocolate fudge milkshakes and go deal with that shield after dinner?” Jack offered with a smile, ever the one to break up tension.
“Yeah, yeah… that sounds good.” Danny agreed. Well, it wasn't how he was expecting this to go, but he was kinda glad it ended up like this. Maybe now they could repair their strained relationship.
As Maddie ruffled up Danny’s hair the teen offered her his first genuine smile in almost a year.
Glowsticks
Sneaking in before midnight on Halloween~
This is another continuation of Exhumed.
.
.
.
McGee had talked to several people about the strangely popular gravestone.  What he had learned made him feel sick.  Literally. He wanted to throw up.  First, the person buried there was the kid that had been found in the park.  Second, the locals had made him into a cult figure practically overnight.
Or, at least, a tourist trap figure.  These people had no shame.
On the other hand… Didn’t they say that Daily person was in charge of cults?  Did Amity Park have a cult problem on top of everything else that was going on?  Was the cult the problem, the root problem?  If there even was an actual cult…
Cults were dangerous and took vicious advantage of legal loopholes.  Maybe he should call the FBI.  They were the ones that were supposed to deal with cults.
He took a deep breath, pulling himself together. No.  This was his case.  His job. He didn’t know that there was a cult involved, not yet.  Besides, it didn’t matter if they were religious so long as they were breaking the law.  Yeah.
“Are you okay?”
McGee almost jumped out of his skin, his hand twitching towards his firearm before he realized that the person who snuck up on him was a kid.  The kid from earlier, to be precise.
The boy’s eyes narrowed.  “Were you about to pull a gun on me?” he asked.
“No,” said McGee.
The boy blinked, suspicion still evident on his face. “You’ve got to be more careful with guns,” he said.  “There’s no reason to go for one just because someone surprised you.”
McGee didn’t grace that with a response.  “What are you doing here, anyway?  Weren’t you across town, earlier?”
“Yeah.  So were you,” said the boy.  Danny. His name was Danny Fenton.  “Why are you here?”
“I asked first.”
“You shouldn’t ask questions you aren’t willing to answer yourself.”
What the hell was up with this kid?  “I’m just trying to get a better feel for the town.”
“Hm,” said Danny.  “I help out here at the cemetery, sometimes.  Got to lay all those ghosts to rest, you know?”
“Don’t you think that’s a little much?” snapped McGee. “Death isn’t supposed to be a roadside attraction.”
“Oh, don’t worry.  We take death very seriously around here,” assured Danny.  “But seriously.  I do help out.  The caretaker lets me take that stuff away when it gets to be too much.”  He nodded at the blank headstone and all the offerings around it.  “Mom likes the flowers.  Jazz is making a collage of some of the cards.  You know.  Stuff like that.”  He shrugged, angling himself away from McGee.  “Someone left a tiny copy of the Tempest once.  In one of those teeny tiny books.  Post.  It had that one passage from Ariel’s Song decorated.  It was nice.  I liked it.”
“What?”
“Ariel’s Song.  Full fathom five thy father lies;/Of his bones are coral made;/Those are pearls that were his eyes;/Nothing of him that doth fade,/But doth suffer a sea-change/Into something rich and strange. Shakespeare.  I think it’s supposed to be a commentary on ghosts, but the guy in the play isn’t actually dead, people just think he is.  So, I’m not really sure how to take it.  You’re a detective, right?  What do you think?”
McGee stared at the teenager. The kid who was buried there was his age.  “This isn’t a joke,” said McGee.  “A person is dead.”
Danny tilted his head. “I’m not joking?”
“How are you even connected to all of this?”  McGee waved his hand, frustrated.
“I just told you how I’m connected to the cemetery.  If you mean the town…  Well, I do live here.”
“Why do Patterson and Collins know you?”
“I know everyone,” said Danny.  He started backing away.  “You should go get something to eat soon, if you don’t want to be late.”  He turned and disappeared in the crowd.
What the hell.
.
McGee did not go to get food. He went back to the station.  He had some questions to ask Cameron Daily, and he got the impression that the man was the kind of person to practically live at work.
When he opened the door, though, he had to stop.
“What is this?” he asked, loudly.
“Glowsticks,” said one of the secretaries.  “You have seen them before, right?”
“Yes, but why?”
As much as the police department had been infested with Christmas decorations before, it was now covered with glowsticks of all varieties.
The secretary shrugged. “You’ll find out.  And, no, this isn’t hazing.”  She broke a new glowstick with a snap.
“Right,” said McGee.  “Where’s Daily?”
“Cameron Daily is in the computer bay,” said the secretary, pointing.
“Thanks,” grunted McGee, once again wondering why there was a separate computer bay when everyone had their own desks, computers, and, in some cases, additional laptops.
Screw it, he might as well ask.
“Hey, Daily.”
“Mm?”
“Why’s there a separate computer bay?”
“Oh, it’s shielded,” said Daily.
“Shielded.”
“Yep.  No signals, and the Fentons did some pretty neat stuff to the walls.  Bunch of, ehm, nasty hackers.  We learned our lesson, eventually.”
“The Fentons.”
“Yeah.  And Foley did the firewalls.”
“They’re the ones who did the computer filing system.”
“Uhuh.  Kids are geniuses.  The parents aren’t too shoddy, either.”
“The—” No.  There was no way.  “Are they the same Fentons that hunt ghosts?”
“Yeah.  You wouldn’t think it to look at them, but apparently they live off of their patents.  Made a bunch of fiddly little things that every other mass production factory in the country uses.  Also, they own a toilet paper company.  Not my favorite brand, but it isn’t the worst, honestly.  Kind of wish we’d buy it here, but, no, we get that gross single ply. I swear, that stuff should be classified as a crime against humanity.”
“You let the ghost hunters deal with your computer security.”
“Oh, I know that tone. You met them, huh?”
“Just the kid.”
Daily looked up at McGee over the computer.  “What?”
“I only met the kid. Danny.”
Slowly, Daily uncurled from his hunch in front of the computer.  The man was taller than McGee thought.
“Then what’s your issue? Danny’s a good kid.”
A good kid whose parents were allowed to run roughshod over the town, who was allowed to steal from graveyards, and knew all of the police officers.  For some reason.
“I heard you’re in charge of monitoring the cult?”
Daily snorted.  “You make it sound like there’s just one.”
“Excuse me?”
“Well, after all the ghosts, most religions had to modernize, you know?”
Oh, god, this was part of the tourist trap.  Or the tourist trap was part of this.  Did they recruit from people who actually believed this nonsense?
“There’s more than one cult?”
“Yep.”
“Sounds like quite a job.”
“Eh.  I’m mostly just keeping track of their online activity.”
“So, how are the Fentons involved?”
“They aren’t.  They’re pretty areligious, overall.  Danny’s been almost kidnapped a few times, though.”
“What?”
“What?”
“Kidnapped.  By a cult.”
“Cults.  Gotta remember the plural, man.  Cults.”  Daily was hunching again.  “But, hey, if you’re interested in the subject, I can give you a thorough run-through of this new group that started up last week.  Their philosophy is wild.  I can’t even tell you—”
“Hey.  You’re early,” said Patterson, leaning through the door, her braid swinging.  “Great. Have you eaten?”
“Yes,” lied McGee.
“Get better at lying,” said Patterson.  “Come on, let’s go.”
.
Patterson and Collins weren’t the only ones there.  In fact, there were more people in the station than there had been that morning. All with glowsticks.  Said glowsticks were being loaded into unmarked cars while office staff and police officers whispered back and forth.
“Did you get the green stuff?”
“Yeah, don’t worry. Gave me more than enough.” Glowing green milk jugs were loaded into a car.  The car McGee would be riding in with Collins and Patterson.
‘Green stuff.’  Was this some kind of bizarre drug smuggling ring? McGee had fallen behind in drug slang, if so.  ‘Green stuff.’  Were they lacing it with glowstick fluid?
Never before had he felt so lost on a case.  Amity Park was messed up.
“You’ve got the howlers hooked up?” asked Collins.
“I asked Daily to do it this morning.”
“But did he do it?”
“I mean, it looks like it. Are the howlers really that important?”
McGee had no idea what was going on.
The cars all started off in a group.  Their car was the last to leave and soon peeled off to trundle slowly down back roads.
“You probably have questions,” said Collins.
“You could say that,” said McGee.
“You’ve been a good sport about them,” observed Collins.
“So,” said McGee, drawing out the word.  “What is this about?”
Patterson swallowed a laugh. “Ever hear of the Men in Black?”
“Look, I’m humoring the ghosts.  Conspiracy theories are where I draw the line.”
“Keep telling yourself that. Maybe it’ll stick.  Anyway, here in Amity Park, we deal with their less intelligent cousins.  The Guys in White!”
“That’s not their actual name,” said Collins, glancing back over his shoulder.  “But, well, their appearance fits.”
“Alright, let’s say I believe you.  What does this have to do with the jugs of glowstick fluid in the trunk?”
“Oh, that’s not glowstick fluid,” said Patterson.  “It’s waste from the reactor that powers the town.”
“Don’t worry,” said Collins, hastily, the car swerving somewhat.  “It’s completely harmless!  Not radioactive at all!”
“That’s not what—” started Patterson.
“You absolutely will not get cancer from it!”
McGee raised a hand.  “You have nuclear reactor fluid in the trunk?”
“It isn’t nuclear reaction fluid,” protested Patterson.  “It’s—"
“Back on track,” interrupted Collins.
“Yeah.  Anyway.  It’ll trip the Guys in White’s sensors—”
“Eventually,” Collins grumbled.
“—so we can lead them on a chase.”
“And…  why do we want to do this?”
“Because it’s a quiet month,” said Patterson.  “Don’t want the Guys to get antsy.”
“What does that even mean?”
“It means what it means. You’ll see in January.”
McGee looked between his two ‘partners.’  “Are you trying to get me to quit?”
“Because you’re a spy for the county?” asked Patterson.  “Oh, no, never.”
Before McGee could process that statement, the car’s radio crackled to life.
“We’ve got a class-3 northbound on Orion at 35 miles per hour.  Ectosignature suggests an amorphiform ghost—”
“Hah!” shouted Patterson. “That’s us!  Punch it!”  She twisted the dial on the radio as Collins slammed his foot into the accelerator.  “Bogey to Redrum!  We’ve got followers!”
“Copy, Bogey, this is Redrum. We need a few more minutes to set up. Can you stay out of sight?”
“The hell?”
The radio crackled.  “Forgot you had the new guy!  Don’t shake him up too much, okay?  Over.”
“Copy.  Collins you catch that?”
“Yeah, don’t worry, I’m taking Pan and Laurel.  The holiday tour.”
“Ooh, good choice.” Patterson held up the radio again. “Yeah, we can manage.  Over.”
Collins went faster. For the next several minutes McGee occupied himself with not throwing up.  He succeeded.  Barely.
“Bogey, this Cam,” said the voice of Daily, “followers are gaining.  They’re on Brassica, just passing High Street.  Triggered the speed cameras.  Over.”
“How many and what type? Over.”
“Three gliders.  Don’t think they’ve spotted you yet, though. Over.”
Gliders?  Who did these people think they were kidding?
“Copy, over,” said Patterson. “Not like those guys care about speeders, though,” she muttered.  McGee could barely hear her over the beating of his own heart.
“Sharp right, brace yourselves,” said Collins, split seconds before matching action to words.
“Redrum to bogey, we’re moving out now, over.”
“Copy.  We’re on our way.  Over.  Head to the park, Collins.”
“Gotcha.”
It didn’t seem possible, but Collins somehow pushed the car to go even faster.  Then, just as quickly as the whole ridiculous thing had begun, the car skidded to a halt in a parking lot.  Seeing his chance, McGee clawed at the door handle and dragged himself out onto the pavement.
Collins and Patterson, meanwhile, were pulling the almost-certainly-toxic waste out of the trunk and launching it into the glowstick-filled woods with—
“Is that a bazooka?” demanded McGee, so far past his wit’s end that he couldn’t even see it anymore.
“Nah, just a modified T-shirt canon,” said Patterson, stowing the object away again.  “Fentonworks special.”
“I don’t believe you,” said McGee.
Three – Three things – McGee did not want to call them gliders – raced overhead, jets roaring and wind whistling.  They came to a stop approximately where the ‘reactor waste’ had fallen.
“What the hell?” whispered McGee, passionately.
“Come on,” said Collins.  “Time for us to go.”
“Yeah, better to spectate from afar,” agreed Patterson.
“I agree,” said a third voice.
“Oh, Danny,” said Patterson.  “Didn’t expect to see you here tonight.”
The boy walked into McGee’s field of view and glanced down at him before shrugging.  “Couldn’t sleep.”  He looked up, at the park.  “Thanks for this.”
“Had to get them to blow this month’s budget somehow,” said Collins.  “But, really, we should all go before the fireworks start.”
Danny sighed.  “Hope they don’t blow up the fountain again.  It just got fixed.”
“Same,” said Patterson.
“Well, see you later.”
“Yep, we’ve got that wellness check tomorrow,” said Collins. “You don’t have any excuse to forget, this time.”
“Yeah, yeah,” said the teen, waving over his shoulder as he walked straight into the dark.
“What,” said McGee.
“That’s just Danny for you,” said Collins.  “Great kid.  Super creepy.”
“Yeah.”
“How’d he even know we’re here?” asked McGee, trying to keep his voice even.
“He did give us that eeeeehhhhhhh—reactor waste,” said Patterson.  “Come on, get up, we’ve got to—”
A small explosion sounded from the park.
“Seriously.  I don’t want to have to pick you up.”
“I’d wind up doing most of the lifting,” grumbled Collins, who was sliding into the driver’s seat.
Patterson put her hands on her hips.  “Excuse you?”
There was another, larger explosion.  McGee climbed back into the car.
As they drove, he realized that no one had made fun of his name. Not even once.
Amity Park was weird.
For the fanfic writer ask game, 15, 20, and 29
For the fanfic writer asks: (link)
Huh, well... I have to say you challenged me, these are hard questions.
(Just as usual from me, prepare for a really long reply.)
15. What is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of?
Definitely, this one is the evilest question, like ever. That was a low bow, shame on you, but seriously, I think I'd say it's WTPH (and even more once I’ll finish it - I'll certainly celebrate that day somehow I'm sure). After all, that one is my little child. Its development I follow eagerly as a parent looks over their firstborn. I watch it proudly as it stretches out into several one-shots and side stories with time. (Note: overall, I call everything belonging under the same concept as 'Heart AU', so all in all, I'm proud of my 'Heart AU'. 😊)
(For clarity, Heart AU includes (chronologically): CMOT, Seasonal Portal Cold (Happens Like Never) (whether it's the same for Dan in the past or just for Danny, I leave it open, because I can't decide it either sometimes), Huntress (Dan's Valerie, alternative timeline), WTPH (+BOTP), Portal (yes, this one belongs here too, oops, spoilers…), My daughter, my perfect base(same Dani as in GG), Core (Danny's Valerie), GG ones, LoD (soon…) (+Sailor), Dollhouse)
It's hard to choose only one though because every fanfic - if I exclude everything that is not DP - has its own beauty. GG is my second-born, which I treat as a bit more 'experienced'. Coming 'LoD' is my third child, which I plan, to prepare for to have but not my 'firstborn'. It's like having two boys, longing to have a girl once which you know you'd love from your heart the most wishing always to have a girl, but still you love your other kids too. Wrong metaphor, I know, but for a second, if I try to think about it, this is how I see them. For real, I can't decide which one is my favourite. But, let's play for a moment why I love (proud of) each of my fanfics:
Phantom: heart-wrenching concept, I'd never ever deny its existence, I love it, it's an AU, an existing version of things in my mind - also, the first thing that came to my mind while I was watching that episode with Amorpho. The moment I finished that episode I sat down, writing this. Also, this one is my first fanfic in DP. (Based on a comment I’ve got for it, I planned to write a just-as-short-one continuation for it, called 'Mad', about Maddie going to Vlad to get revenge on Phantom for Danny… - I have no idea why I never wrote it, but I guess time will tell if I come back to this concept once)
Seasonal Portal Cold (Happens Like Never): my attempt to write what happened before S1E1 - also, I needed something 'comforting' for myself after 'Phantom'. (Also, the title is hilarious, equaling Danny’s symptoms with a probable ‘cold’ got from the portal. This is where my hilarity has begun to give great titles to stories.)
WTPH: young parent's firstborn, first steps into something, surprised by its length (with originally planned 7 chapters - 7! how?! look at this monstrosity now…), and into what it developed with time. (To stay at the child-metaphor, this one right now a bit got neglected due to the second and third child… also, it's a 'teen' now, hardest to handle compared to spending time with its little, ‘harmless' sibling, GG…)
BOTP (aka short scenes from WTPH): exploring everything a bit more, giving more depth to things - also, as time went ahead, I realized I should have added more scenes to WTPH, so then, I did it in another way :) (messier this way though, I see it too…)
GG series (previously titled as BOT - Bonds Over Time): my second born, entirely different issues to cover up, an absolutely interesting mix of two different things (normal life and ghost issues), also a very much self-indulgent fanfic, if you love it too, I love you, if you don't love it, then I love it nevertheless. (If I need a bit of comfort, then I always imagine a scene with Dani and Dan, and then, if I have time, I write it down to. It doesn’t count if they have a ‘hard time’, their pair always calm me. It’s like a safe zone.)
CMOT (Certain Moment of Time): damn, I just love this, very short, but within those short chapters it tells a whole tale about Dan's Vlad. I'm still awed how it turned out. I could’ve never ever guessed I'd manage to seize everything just in some tiny chapters. Really short concepts but if you think about it… it's just much. (Also, I’m proud because it was for Angst Week and I did every day in time!)
My daughter, my perfect base: I'm sad it slipped back in the writing process because I have things to tell in this (things connected to GG), but I still love it from my heart - also it's my very first attempt to make something to someone - or at least in a way 😊. (Yeah, uh, sorry, Lena, I'm not sure if I said that or not - more like, if I had the courage to confess it or not back then - but this is not a 'good dad' Vlad one. It's how I imagine Dani's past with Vlad about the time we haven't seen in the series, so it won't be a 'happy one'. Even though, Dani’s past is known, but I have tiny interesting details in my sleeve. 😁)
Milkshake and Double-Cheese: my second attempt - my seriousfirst attempt - to write something for someone by a given prompt, I'm a bit proud I managed (sort of) to do that, especially with a character I've never thought I'd ever write. (more in the way to expand it more, not sure though when exactly)
Possibilities & A half of a half(a): ideas and prompts that don't belong under 'Heart AU' at all. (Except, the controversial ending of the latest one helped me a bit to use it for something in the future… 😁 I'm really proud of that idea, I have to say, but no more words, my lips are closed…)
LoD: if WTPH is my love-child, then LoD is my planned one, born in a 'stabile' background for it to exist safely. I fell in love with darkgray stories with Deliverance, so I wished for a long time to once write mine, I wasn't sure how, but I always wanted to do it. Well, LoD is my version for Valerie and Dan. :) Far away from Deliverance level, and I'm not sure if it could be counted then as darkgray one strictly, but I'm really looking forward to getting into it more once I can. (I have its first 4 and ½ chapters - the first one needs a very strong editing - but mostly it is prepared to share once WTPH is done. Also, I have 3 chapters in the middle, so when I manage to write the gap between the two written parts, then I'll be okay for a long time. Note: Sailor plays somewhere in its third part. Also, I have its entire main plot points so then I 'only' have to sit down for it and write - once, I don't have anything else to do.) (Note: missed yet to write Damon-one for Side Hoes Week gives a bit of start point for it.)
Dollhouse: definitely wrecks the 'innocence' of GG, so deny it, if you don't want it to be connected that. It's my messy child, my beloved black sheep in the family, and I'm proud of it too - though debating with myself constantly to continue working on that or not.
I think I listed everything that exists, now comes my ideas that are not out there yet, but in the line to exist soon:
20. What feedback makes you the happiest to hear?
planned InvisoBang one (no idea how to title it): if I could write it, then I'd be very proud. It's about an 'alternative' Dani, where she has her parents, getting into a similar situation like Danny when he got his ghostly powers, but of course, this story won't be the same as things that happened with Danny. I'll play a parallel game, many things will be the same at the same time, but different. Mostly it'll be about how things turn out if someone at some point decides else. If I could write it, then I'd the happiest person on Earth, not just because this idea wanted to be written, but also because I participated in an event to write something for a schedule, and I managed to do that. It's a big step, and not just writing something when I 'feel like that'.
All in all, every kind. I'm not getting much, so then I appreciate what I get - very very much. ^.^ I know there is a reader count but a feedback doesn't feel for me like a void. Any feedback is a note for me that someone not just 'accidentally' clicked on it or something. But if I could confess it from my heart, it's maybe when someone enlightens what they liked in something the most. It might be a really small detail, what they saw behind it, or an entire scene. I'd be glad to hear what effect a scene made. (Was it too much? Too lame? Did it make you wonder why that certain character said that or reacted the way they did?, etc.)
Also, it might be a constructive criticism too, I'm open to hearing that kind of feedbacks too. Like, if someone would be brave and tell me that they disagree with something, I'd like to hear it too, and explain how it was valid for example. (We even could get into a debate if you wish, but keep in mind, I'll always protect how I see my characters in my stories.) And I'd be happy to hear the 'turning point' too, what decided the fate of an actual story - closing the tab ('not my type'), or reading further (because something was catchy or you just want to see where it goes). And even more, a third option: if you read further, giving it a try what made you change your mind (same two ways apply here too - hate it from that point or it became catchy). In short, I'm curious. I'd love to hear anything. 😊 (Anything means, anything, if you want to write an essay about how much I misinterpret and picture a character who shouldn't be redeemed at all, then do it, it's okay too, my mailbox is ready for an intellectual battle to defend my choice of characterization.)
29. What part of the writing process do you enjoy the most? (Brainstorming, outlining, writing, editing, etc)
(Side note: I’d be happy to hear suggestion/feedback in case I use a word or expression wrong. Or to note me a typo. My not native ass begs for correction, and (polite) explaining to things. 😊. It’s okay to correct me. I’m okay with that too.
I guess, for me, it is the brainstorming and outlining process. Writing is fun too, after all, that's the part when everything gets on paper (document), and getting to live from one's brain, to then grow up into a chapter, but it is not always 'fun'. If the flow kicks in, then it's okay, but mostly it is just a struggle, over and over again. During the 'writing' process, I mostly write as things come into my mind, using brackets for words that don't come to my mind at that moment, or stopping constantly to look after how it is written (I have near to a dozen opened tabs for vocabulary if I sit down to write, that's my average number).
If, somehow the 'writing' process is okay, and everything is done from the beginning of a certain chapter to the end, then I call it the first 'draft'. I have for everything at least four-five drafts (in case of a ‘short’ story), before I start editing. Editing is my second torture. Sometimes, the plot shifts as I start correcting things. Sometimes, it stretches into more words, even as many that I have to cut it into parts. I'm not getting into it now, but you can imagine, it’s a damn circle, the writer’s devil wheel. Sometimes I just want to be a bit more familiar to use English, to avoid this endless circle during writing anything - funny though it is still easier for me than writing in my native language. So, my masochism is necessary and unavoidable.
In fact, brainstorming and outlining is not the best part of the writing process, if I think about that. The best part is (for me) when somehow, entirely unexpectedly something comes in and it clicks. Let me explain it through an example.
During the very beginning of WTPH, there was a comment that made everything betterbecause it made me realise I forgot about one certain basic thing during outlining my story - and believe me I took every single question what will happen that could lead everyone to the end and I answered them before I started writing WTPH, but still, somehow I overlooked this tiny detail...
I'm talking about this, the absolutely first comment to WTPH:
Tumblr media
I forgot about the C.A.T. retake. I looked at my notes, and tried to search for the answer to how I could have forgotten it, but I didn’t find anything. I didn't write things that it was already written, nor that it wasn't written, so then I sat down and tried to figure out how to use it, because the part 'so soon'gave me a ring that it should be 'soon' after the C.A.T, but not after the retake… then it just clicked, and it clicked with many good ideas: the retake hasn't happened yet. It led then to many other questions, and soon it affected many things in the later chapters too. Like, Jazz thinking Dan is still there because of that - even though he said to her that he came because of Vlad (but it could have been a lie…). Dan having no cognition that there was an option to a retake, and against him, Danny was given that opportunity - creating the gap between them even more, how different they are. Then, there was an entire chapter about Danny and the retake - which was a great blink to 'avoid the shadow of the future' thought, and then as Danny got home, the 'future' (aka Dan) was there. And let's not forget the (untold) part that Dan got jealous that Danny got a second chance by doing a retake, feeling it unfair, doubling it with the truth that Jazz didn't 'remember' him, because Danny was a poor little puppy for Clockwork who 'retake' for him everything considered as faulty – cutting of everything that could have equaled with Dan or his timeline, how things happened, turned out, and everything... It is just a twist in the heart. And could have guessed this all came from one single part-note that just got stuck into my mind? No, of course not. Or could you imagine everything now without these parts and depths? Either. That is my best part, when from out of blue, something just clicks, making everything you have planned before, turning upside down and giving everything an even better background.
Anyway, thanks for the questions, those were hard to answer – especially the first one. 😃 (Seriously though, could anyone tell what is the story they are proudest of? Of course, it’s always the latest – or something… it’s an evil question, like asking what’s your favourite scene you’ve ever written – okay, no, surprisingly, I could give an answer for that 😅)
As I said, WTPH was officially outlined for 7 chapters. Now, you can imagine how much everything has changed with time by that (Just by numbers: it is standing now at 18/21-22 + 13 chapters in BOTP - it speaks for itself I guess). In conclusion, no matter the early brainstorming, or any attentive outlining, everything shifts to its final form at the editing - for me at least. Sometimes entire concepts got rewritten at the final part because the pace requires it to change into a completely different path. Mysteries of the soul of the story, I reckon. 😄
(I wait for the day when I won’t answer to something in a novel length…)
Quick Thoughts: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Reveal Trailer and Initial Roster
Tumblr media
Whelp I didn’t expect to be doing another one of these so soon but welcome to quick thoughts where I give well quick thoughts on stuff instead of the longer form reviews I usually do.
So as longtime or even short time readers of this blog might know I love NIck. I don’t review shows from it as often as Disney or Cartoon Network, but it was still a beloved part of my childhood and still makes great shows today such as the Loud House, Harvey Beaks and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s horribly mismanaged, which is why two of those shows are no longer with us and the last of them is weirdly missing from this game, and have a long and storied history of screwing things over.. and i’m not exagerating when Mr. Enter, no matter your opinon of him now, did a whole marathon of every nicktoon almost every entry included the fact the show had been screwed over in some way.
But as anyone who knows my history with Disney will tell you just because I don’t sugarcoat a brand I like’s fuckups dosen’t mean they aren’t near and dear to me at the same time. I”m a grown up: I can have complex emotions towards a chlidren’s tv network. So I love it’s varied shows some of whom (Avatar, Harvey beaks again, Danny Phantom, Hey Arnold) are among my all time faviorites.
Now something readers of my blog probably WOUDLN’T know is I love Nintendo, they have their own fuckups like weird release strageies and never doing a remotely decent discount like the competition, but their still a company I love and since I only play handhelds most of the time are my primary source of good shit. So naturally Smash Bros is my faviorite franchise of theres. I love the idea of fighting games but often struggle with the combo heavy nature. So Smash Bros, having a roster of some of my faviorite characters ever, a plaformer style control scheme, and a deceptivley simple style that’s easy to learn and fun to master with the right character, is my shit. Sure I won’t rush out to buy every dlc character, but you better belivie I played the hell out of Ultimate, will likely go back to it again some day, and did buy Banjo and Kazooie because fuck yeah.
So yeah I needed to talk about Nick making their own smash bros clone. When I heard the rumors I wasn’t sure, mostly because Rumors can be just that.. but nope this game is happening and i’m all on board for it. This isn’t Nick’s first crossover rodeo in recent memory either also making a pair of Kart Racing Games: one I KINDA wanted to play till I looked at the roster, had a good laugh and lost that i want, and the other I really want to play as it seems like the first game if it were you know an actual game with a decent track selection, a deep character roster and an actual love of it’s properties.
So making their own Smash Bros was a logical step and one i’m here for. We haven’t had any of the big cartoon networks make one since well.. Cartoon Network, and Nick has just a deep a bench to pull from, one that will hopefully get CN to get their cast to throw hands once more.
For now though the idea of the vast history of nick all throwing hands with each other is amazing. Look i’m honest with myself: this looks like a decent smash clone,functional but nothing specail, but with the expressive character animation and solid roster you need for a game like this. I know going in i’m not going ot get Smash Ultimate quality of brawler, but i’m probably going to have fun with it.
The only downside I see so far is , like the Kart Racers, theyd idn’t seem to get ANY voice actors for this which smacks of laziness, especially since most of the voice actors for these characters are still active, and in some cases like Spongebob or Loud House are still working with you. So you have no real excuse for this, shame on you.
But yeah the game looks good.. despite the trailer being pretty bad. It’s just some generic music set to “LOOK WHO WE GOT”. And granted look who they got is really spiffy and i’ll be diving into that in a second, but it dosen’t give any of these characters a reall chance to show off how they play or how awesome they are. It’s just a bland montage of whose in the roster in the same 2 or 3 stages. And when you have 15 stages overall to show off that’s not excusable. Again i’m not expecting Smash level quality revelas, this game dosen’t have the marketing budget, but you have a really great concept and roster here, you coudl’ve revealed it better and this game better. The Kart Racers 2 Trailer was also mildly bland but it did show off the game better, showing off several tracks and how VASTLY improved the roster was, so you CAN make a good trailer you just didn’t. It felt like they thought the poitn of all the smash reveals trailers was here’s a character and missed all the style and substance to them.
That being said while the trailer was weak.. it was boyed by the fact this roster is REALLY damn good. Let’s face it I woudln’t even be talking about this game if the roster wasn’t this minty but they clearly learned from Kart Racers not to half ass it and while they learned the long lessons from Smash in how to promote the fighters they have, they learned the right lessons in having a nice mix of crowd pleasing faviorites for kids and vetrans alike along with a few deep cuts for said longtime fans. And this is JUST the intitial reveal roster: Given the Box Art isn’t out yet, I feel there’s more to come, especially since despite being perfect for the game there’s no one from the Avatarverse yet, but I also feel that Nick is saving that for a second trailer to announce the release date. But I can and will go into who i’d LIKE on the roster in another one of these sometime soon. -
Spongebob, Patrick and Sandy (SpongeBob Squarepants): I’m getting these three out of the way as their essentially to this what Mario and Co were to smash: necessary and inevitible.  As for who was chosen.. it was as obvious as putting spongebob himself int he game. Sponebob is Nick’s mascot, Patrick is nearly as iconic and Sandy is well loved as well as the spongebob character most associated with buttkicking. Being an expert martial artist is both part of her character and a cerntral part of her character and relationship with Spongebob. So yeah not a lot ot say here: it was ineivible but I don’t mind at all having grown up with them and with my niece and nibling being huge fans.
87 Leo and 87 Mikey (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles): This one i’m mixed on. Not on the turtles being here: i’m a MASSIVE TMNT fan and i’td be stupid to leave them out since Nick Owns them, made the last two series, and they fit this kind of game like a glove, even having had their OWN smash clone to themselves once.
No my issue is obviously in the version choseN: The 87 turtles. Again I have no beef with the guys themselves, I haven’t seen much of 87 but I want to and they look really gorgeous and nicely cartoony. It’s just a REALLY weird choice. The 87 turtles have never been on a nick network due to rights issues, have never been associated with nick, and aren’t the ones most kids of EITHER DEMO would be familiar with: Grown up fans of nicktoons from the 90′s like myself would be more familiar with 2003, and kids and teens from more recent eras would be more familiar with 2012 and rise, which REALLY should’ve been the rep. I mean their weird shame of rise bothers me enough on a good day but not using EITHER show you actually made bothers me, it bothers me a lot. I’ll still probably play Mikey, i’m not made of stone and as I said I have no beef with the 87 turtles, I just wish nick had used the others or hell just gone all lin and used one turtle from each cartoon. I mean if your going to use stuff you’ve barely aired why not give me some 2003 nostalgia too huh? Though it could just be that since, unlike the rise and 2012 turrtles the 87 turtles have the same body type and colors it was easier to just do all 4 and just give each unique facial expressions. Who knows... I knows it was probably that.
Lincoln and Lucy Loud (The Loud House, Duh): Another pretty obvious one as The Loud House is currrently nick’s co-flagship show with spongebob. Still waiting for my diffrent world spinoff with Bobby and Lori guys. So yeah Lincoln isn’t a suprise and Lucy is only minorly one as it was a matter of “which sister”... and Lucy is one of the most popular. Neither really fit a combat setting.. but given this is a fun crossover game, that really dosen’t matter and in fact is kind of the fun: taking just the most insane matcchups imaginable and mashing them together. I mean this is a game where Lincoln and Lucy can beat up Leo and Mikey, why wouldn’t I want that kind of crack on my nintendo switch? I am hoping for Luna to make her way to the stage next as she was absent from Kart Racer 2 and would be really fun to play. Plus having ANOTHER bi fighter in the mix if korra gets in there would be awesome, let alone letting the two beat up or punch each other’s face. But again I could and probably will mak ea whole article about other possible fighters i’d want.
The Plesant Suprises: Nigel Thornberry , Oblina and Powdered Toast Man (Wild Thronberries, Ahhh! Real MOnsters1 and Ren and Stimpy) : Yeah while only one of these cartoons was a faviorite as a kid (Wild Thornberries)... I have nothing but respect for these choices. One of the funnest things about Smash is while you can see some roster members coming sometimes you get utter curveballs like Mr. Game and Watch, Pirana Plant and MInecraft Guy. They also go for more cult franchises like SNK or Earthbound (the latter of which is fucking awesome localize mother 3 already dammit) too among the big heavies, making it feel like a true tapestry of Nintendo’s history.
Nigel is the only one of these three that’s really obvious. He’s a meme, he was the best part of his show.. but it’s still just uniquely batshit to put NIGEL THRONBERRY in a fighting game. You better belivie he’ll be one of my mains.
Oblina is more a suprise because I thought they’d go with Icket, but instead went wtih the character who was more popular and had a really unqiue and cool design, so i’m pleased as punch to have her. Finally while I don’t have any real attachment to ren and stimply apart from Log, and really it’s hard to gain any now knowing i’ts creator was a pedophile piece of shit, the franchise is still a cornerstone of nick history, the rest oc the crew didn’t abuse power or not make deadlines or be a com plete piece of shit, and powerded toast man is genuinely great. I”d love to see Really Big Man too, clash of the weird superheroes, I love me a weird as hell superhero. This also speaks promisingly that w’ell get some real weird curveballs to come and i’m here for it.
The Rest: Helga, Zim, Danny and Reptar. (Hey Arnold, Invader Zim, Danny Phantom and Rugrats! ): Note i’m not lumping these together because their bad: their all graet nostalgic picks from timeless shows and with the rugreboot currently running on Paramount+, it’d be weird not to represent them.
And since I brought it up reptar is a fun chocie, another oddball but one more understandable as no one wants to beat the shit out of a toddler. Or rather no one playing the game would care you could because it’s a silly fighting game and a 12 and 8 year old are also beat upable, but someone would probably throw a fit somewhere. Plus again it’s a game where you can have danny phantom fight reptar. Shut up and take my money.
The rest are all great choices if ones I’m not suprised by: Hey Arnold’s an all time classic and being tough is a lot of Helga’s character, and again I can have her throw hands with nigel thornberry, reptar and a ninja turtle in the same match. Zim is another fan faviorite and fits the game like a glove and Danny Phantom is the one out of Nick’s three suprehero classics it actually still cares about so my boy getting in there isn’t a shocker, though his attacks lookw eird. Hopefully they green them up before the final prduct.
So yeah overall it looks really promsing and really fun and i’ll probably check this game out if I get enough money when it comes out or more likely put it on my christmas list. But I will get it somehow this i swear.. speaking of which put manny in the roster dammit. If you liked this.. thing consider joining my patreon for a buck a month fo exclsuvie reviews and ot help me review tuca and bertie, amphibia and more as part of my memebership drive.
