jun was always curious as to how you've managed to just sit there and laugh at chan’s comment when you're in the same room as seungcheol, let alone show up at seungcheol and jeonghan’s quaint cafe.

he knew better than to pry you for questions, of course, but knowing how deep your relationship ran with cheol, it was astounding to see you light on your feet.

“junnie,” you nudged jun who was sitting right next to you, evidently staring at you. “is there something wrong?” you asked quietly, careful not to attract any attention. most of the attention were on seungkwan and chan anyway as they were busy bantering about a prolonged birthday gift.

jun snapped out of his thoughts and shook his head no, a sheepish smile forming in face. “sorry, i didn’t mean to stare.” he apologized, scratching the back of his head.

“it’s all good,” you laughed softly. “sorry, i must’ve been talking a lot, huh? it’s just—” you sighed “it’s been a while since i saw you guys.”

“no, no,” jun was quick to dispute whatever it is that you were thinking. “it’s nothing, ynnie. don’t worry about it.” he smiled. “it’s just nice having you here.”

“it’s nice being here too,” you said half-heartedly, while stealing a quick glance at cheol, who was already looking at you from across the room.

a couple of days before you showed up at the café, you received a text from soonyoung, asking forcing you to attend this exclusive get-together.

the heads up was nice and it was sweet that they miss you because you miss them too— you were all friends first, of course.

“haohao,” you called your friend who was busy cooking in your kitchen. minghao was the only friend from the group who still hung out with you regularly— mainly because you two don’t live that far from each other.

“yeah?” he called back.

you walked towards the kitchen, leaning against the pillar. “were you ever going to tell me about it?” you pointed out, still looking at the message in your screen.

“tell you what?” hao asked, confused.

“the hang out.”

“what hang out?” hao knew exactly what you were talking about though. he was just trying to be… careful. right, careful.

“c’mon, hao,” you crossed your arms. you weren’t mad though, you knew exactly why they were doing this— why they’re trying so hard. it’s hard enough to get everyone gather at the same day, however, it’s even harder to have your friends— two of which used to date— to be at the same place. “it’s fine, you know.”

“well,” hao turned off the stove, carefully plating your food. “do you wanna go?”

“i mean, it’s been a while since i saw the boys together,” you mumbled, playing with your nails. “and besides, i miss them.”

“them?” hao smirked, as if he knew damn well that you were pertaining to someone else.

“shut up, minghao.” you grumbled, taking a seat at the table, the smell of hao’s delicious masterpiece filling up your nostrils. “thank you for the food.”

hao hummed in response, watching you as you eat your food with a pout, making him smile.

silence enveloped the rest of the meal. it wasn’t until you were washing the dishes when hao suddenly asked “you know, no one really figured out why you two broke up.” you almost dropped the plate you were holding upon hearing the question. “all i remember was cheol wanted to drink to death one day. if it wasn’t for shua and jeonghan that made him pull from his senses, i honestly don’t know what would’ve happened.”

“we were too young. too passionate, too—” you answered, trying to think of an answer that made sense because frankly, you didn’t know why either. “hao, we were each other’s world.” your voice drifts off.

minghao just listened intently to you. he could never really relate to what was said, because what you and cheol had was something different. it was never just young love, it was something more.

“cheollie, what if—” you groaned “what if i just drop out.” you said, closing your laptop in frustration. seungcheol laughed, making you glare at him. “you dare laugh? at my frustration?”

“i’m sorry, babe, but you’re just too cute.” he smiles, pinching your cheeks. “i’m also sorry because you can’t drop out.”

“and why not?” you quirked a brow at him.

“because your dad will have me delivered on a silver platter if he finds out i encouraged his daughter to drop out,” cheol replied making you laugh “and besides, dating a well-known curator is on the list of my life-long dreams.”

you rolled your eyes at the cheesy comment, fighting off a smile. “a list?” you asked, to which cheol nodded. “what else is on that list?”

cheol bit the insides of his cheeks, suddenly feeling flustered.

“wow,” you laughed “choi seungcheol, are you embarrassed?”

“yah! i told you i hate it when you call me that,” seungcheol pouts, crossing his arms.

“you’re being a baby.”

“that’s fine because i am your baby,” he grins, making you snort laughing. one of seungcheol’s dreams was to make you laugh till the rest of your lives. that was enough for cheol.

“ynnie,” chan hands you the third round of shots. “i heard you’re holding another— uh…” chan looked around, trying to remember the word.

“exhibition, chan.” jeonghan finished with a laugh. “you need to slow down, we’re only three rounds in.”

“hehe,” chan giggles “sorry.”

“it’s okay, chan,” you laughed before taking the shot. “but yeah, it’s going to be my first time exhibiting my own work.”

“that’s so cool, ynnie,” seokmin smiles adoringly at you. “we’re so proud of you.”

“thanks, you guys,” you replied shyly. “i— uh, it really means a lot.”

“of course,” jun nudged you playfully “we’re always here to cheer you on, you know.”

a collective mutter of agreements filled the coffee shop during its after-hours— a long string of support followed one after the other. from the group of muttered agreements, one voice seemed to stand out from others. one voice that meant so much to you. one that you longed to hear for so long.

seungcheol. he was looking at you with those adoring eyes, the ones that filled you so much comfort whenever you looked at them. there was a small smile forming in his lips— god, those lips. words cannot describe how much you miss those lips. it hurt that even after 3 years of your break up, you still long for him. but at least he was happy, right?

a couple of days before the planned hangout, the boys were gathered at heaven’s cloud coffee roasters— the coffee shop that seungcheol and jeonghan proudly own.

“so are we all meeting here then?” joshua asked, taking a sip of his iced americano.

“fine by me,” jeonghan shrugged “i just need to put a notice that we’re closing early that day.”

seungcheol hummed in agreement, the voices slowly drowning out. he was busy looking at your instagram art page. again.

whenever there was a fighting itch that he missed you, he would find his way to your instagram account. you still followed each other on your personal accounts, but you weren’t really active there. you had an art account where you post nearly every day. it wasn’t just drawings and paintings that were on that account, you also posted your letters there too. for seungcheol, that account was more personal as it encapsulated everything that was needed to know about you.

upon quietly scrolling through your account, he found a letter that you posted a couple of days ago, one that hit close to home.

“the last time i fell in love— i was twenty. i was probably too young to be thinking about love, but still, it was a force that shaped my entire perception of love.

at twenty-seven, i still have yet to feel it again. and if the multiverse is real, i hope a version of me finds someone who would still move mountains for her— to be loved as much as she loves.

because i learned the hard way that some people are meant to find love, yet they aren’t meant to keep it.”

joshua caught a glimpse of what seungcheol was looking at when he sat next to him. he was one of the few people who knew where cheol’s feelings lied with you. joshua’s one of the few people who also knew about your feelings with cheol, especially involving that art account that you practically dedicated to seungcheol.

joshua was not a betting person, but if he were, he knew that seungcheol had no idea that that art account of yours only existed because of seungcheol.

“are you looking at her account again?” joshua asked cheol quietly while the other guys were talking about what to eat and drink on the upcoming hangout.

“psh, what?” cheol instantly exited the page, putting a false face of appall “of course not.”

joshua rolled his eyes, knowing damn well that his friend was lying straight through his face. “whatever, cheol.”

knowing there’s no point in lying, especially towards joshua, seungcheol lets out a deep sigh. “i miss her, that’s all.”

joshua hummed, choosing to stay quiet. joshua knew about your true feelings for cheol when he, minghao, and seungkwan were in your apartment that one rainy night. you had invited them for dinner and to catch up because you haven’t talked in so long. drinks were involved so one thing led to the other, next thing joshua knew, you were still moping about your break-up with cheol.

“god, i miss yn,” soonyoung groaned out of the blue. soonie’s comment was enough attention for the boys to look at him, some of them with widened eyes.

“what?” soonie asks, almost innocently. “it’s been awhile since we were all hanging out together, i’ve always loved having her around.”

“soonyoung,” jeonghan warns him quietly, practically holding himself back from gesturing to seungcheol.

“cheol, hyung, you’ve moved on right?” soonyoung asks carelessly, making vernon— who was sitting quietly in the corner— practically choke on his drink. “you wouldn’t mind if invite ynnie right?”

jeonghan and joshua both looked at seungcheol the same time, with pairs of eyes full of curiosity, watching what cheol’s about to say.

cheol cleared his throat, “yeah, it’s fine,”

soonyoung grins— a little too mischievous as seungkwan would note. “perfect, i’ll text her now,” soonie says as he tapped furiously on his phone.

it’s not like you and seungcheol have been avoiding each other, that’s not it at all! you two would always see each other at a friend’s birthday or an event where you two have common circles— you two would always smile at each other, say a quick hi, but that’s the extent of it. and even then, you two were always surrounded by other people too.

“yn,” seungcheol practically seethes your name. “look at me.”

you hate it when you two fight, it only morphs you two into monsters.

“seungcheol,” you had to take a deep sigh before saying anything further as you’re trying to calm yourself down. “i’m tired. can we not do this right now?”

“no, yn, because you always do this.” seungcheol was getting frustrated too. he was always patient around you, but he is human after all. life is sometimes, though often, frustrating. “you always avoid the problem, even if it begs to be confronted.”

this got you heated because seungcheol was right, and it annoyed you that he was right. you don’t like confrontations. in fact, you hated them. for the entirety of your relationship, you could only count the number of times you initiated the apology.

“then what do you want me to do, cheol?” you asked, almost in a whisper. you closed your laptop, knowing well enough that you weren’t going to finish the report you needed for your internship.

“talk to me, yn.” cheol practically begged. “what’s going on?”

“i— i’m tired, cheol.” tears formed on the brims of your eyes.

“okay, we can take a break from studying,” cheol nodded, closing his laptop as well. you two had been practically living in the library for the past couple of weeks, trying to finish the your last semester head-strong.

“no, cheol, i meant—“ you couldn’t even bear to finish the sentence and even then, cheol knew what you were trying to say. “there’s never a day that we don’t fight and it’s—“

“frustrating?” seungcheol finishes for you, a small disbelief present in his tone.

“yeah,” you answered throwing your head back, trying not to cry but it doesn’t work. your tears kept betraying you.

he wanted to be mad because how on earth are you able to just throw a 4 year-long relationship with ease? but seungcheol cannot be mad— not at your frustration, not at you. because for this relationship to work, you two need to be invested in it.

it has been suffocating for you, it has been frustrating for cheol.

“okay,” cheol clears his throat, wiping his tears furiously. “let’s take a break then.”

“okay.” you whispered.

you two stayed in the library for another hour, bid each other a quiet goodbye and left on your separate ways— never to speak to each other again.

as the night gets longer, more drinks have been consumed. it was starting to get rowdy too— soonyoung and seokmin being the cause of it all. they kept squeezing out drinking games that was enough to keep everyone feeling buzzed.

you, on the other hand, started to feel like the room was getting stuffy. so you excused yourself for a minute and sat at one of the patio chairs, nursing the alcoholic drink that you were given earlier.

you could hear the laughter emitting inside the café and you couldn’t help but at smile at how some things never really change.

you heard a faint sound of bells from the door, signalling that someone was coming.

“oh, i’m sorry, i didn’t—“ you whipped your head around and saw that cheol was standing there, a drink in his hand too. “i was just hoping to get some fresh air and—“

“cheol, it’s fine,” you reassured him, adding a small smile. “i know how drinking throughout that can be too much for you.” you nodded at your friends inside.

cheol lets out a small laugh, “yeah.” he leaned against the wall, enough to give you two some space from each other. a tiny part of cheol couldn’t help but feel happy that you still know that tidbit about him.

there was a blanket of silence that enveloped the two of you. it wasn’t awkward per se— but this was the first time you two were left alone in a while.

“so how are yo—“ “are you doing ok—“ you both said at the same time, making you laugh.

a soft smile appears on cheol’s face. it’s been a while since cheol saw you laugh— well anything that involved him, really.

“heaven’s cloud, huh?” you started off, admiring the exteriors of the café. “i’m glad you’ve finally reached your dreams, cheol.”

“i did promise you that i’ll run a coffee shop one day,” cheol said with a proud look on his face. heaven’s cloud is seungcheol’s pride and joy. all throughout his university years, he would find himself cooped inside the cafés near the university. it never occurred to him that taking care of people, by providing a warm cup of coffee and a place of comfort, was something he’d be doing.

cheol likes to think that it was you that led him here. he would always accompany you at coffee shops to study, would always buy you coffee and sweets. he did it so much that he would start doing the same thing to the guys. he would often buy them coffee unprompted, would feed them sweets.

they found it odd at first, because seungcheol was not the type to do all of that unless he was asked, but they’ve quickly learned to accept it because they saw how much it meant to cheol.

you were joking when you suggested that cheol should open up a café when he brought at least a dozen iced americanos to you and the rest of the guys one day. cheol remembered how he smirked at you and said, “wanna bet?”

so really, you led cheol here. cheol knew that you would never believe him if he said that, but it’s true. you hold so much influence in his life that it kills him that you’re not actively in his life anymore.

“i’m proud of you, cheol.” you said softly, tucking a stray hair behind your ear— suddenly not knowing what to do. “i hope you never forget that.”

"i know," cheol replied in a whisper. "i'm proud of you too, you know. always.”

"thanks, cheol."

“why do i have to give it to her?” cheol grumbled while he was fixing his hair, checking for any hair that’s out of place.

“you say that and yet you’re acting like this is the first time yn is going to see you,” jeonghan teased with a smirk as he watched seungcheol check his hair every 5 seconds at the reflection of his car window.

joshua and seungkwan laughed quietly at jeonghan’s comment, causing seungcheol to glare at them— which only makes them laugh even more.

seungcheol chose to ignore jeonghan’s sly comment. “where are they anyway?” he asked, checking his phone for the time. 10:07 am. The exhibition has started, cheol thought.

kwannie, cheol, shua, and hannie were waiting outside the gallery for the rest of the guys to arrive. hao was already inside helping you with your exhibit— as cheol assumed— along with vernon, who was kind enough to offer his help.

“jun texted that they had to pick up the cake and that they’ll just meet us inside,” seungkwan said out loud. “apparently, mingyu overslept.”

“that sounds about right,” jihoon commented as he, wonwoo, and soonyoung walked towards where cheol and the rest of the guys were waiting.

“here,” soonyoung handed cheol the bouquet of pink carnations that cheol specifically asked. “since you were so adamant about the kind of flowers and the colour.”

“oh, we’ve already decided that cheol’s going to hand yn the flowers.” shua smirked.

“i’m surprised you actually went,” wonu pointed out, knowing there is still some odd tension between you and cheol.

“uh yeah, she texted me about it.” cheol cleared his throat “she actually invited me here.”

the way cheol said it so casually, the way the words just escaped his mouth like silk— it was enough for the guys to stop in their tracks and look at cheol like he grew two heads.

“no fucking way,” jihoon comments out of astonishment, breaking the ice.

“oh my god, you guys actually came?” you were greeted with a bunch of warm smiles from the boys, each of them giving you a hug. “i thought you guys were busy?”

“are you kidding? we would never miss this for the world,” seungkwan commented as he gave you a tight hug. “besides, that was just soonie hyung’s elaborate plan of surprise.”

“well, consider me surprised.” you laughed as soonie gave you a tight squeeze. “feel free to roam around, there’s refreshments by the right corner.”

you have just hugged every one of them until you reached cheol— who was a sight for sore eyes. after being broken up for about 3 years now, it still baffles you that his presence alone makes your heart flutter.

you don’t even know why you invited him personally— you haven’t talked that much since the hangout at his café. actually, that’s a lie. you knew damn well why you invited him. a part of him lives within you— may it be in your artworks or your writing.

seungcheol was hesitant— he didn’t know whether he should hug you or not. he literally stopped in the middle of his tracks, his arms almost at mid-air. it was painstakingly obvious too— vernon, who was busy ushering people and caught wind of the situation, couldn’t hide his grimace.

you heard seungkwan’s panicked voice, forcing the others to go with him and leave you two alone. they were dying from curiosity, but even the strong-willed jeonghan could not stomach the awkwardness in the air.

as soon as the guys left, cheol had the courage to finally to say something. anything. “yn,” he cleared his throat “these are for you.” cheol said, handing you the bouquet of pink carnations shyly.

“oh, these are gorgeous,” you sighed happily “thank you, cheol.”

“of course, anything for you,” cheol said a little too eagerly. he cleared his throat, trying to mask his excitement. “it’s from all of us, really.”

“oh?” cheol raised his eyebrow at your confused tone. his eyes followed yours and saw that you were reading the card that came with the flowers— which flustered you immediately upon reading the note.

for the entire time that cheol was holding that bouquet of flowers, not once did he notice the card that was practically sticking out like a sore thumb.

“uh— can i read it?” cheol asked, immediately walking closer to you. you were about to pull the card so he can read it on his own but he was already mere inches away from you, peering over your shoulder.

this was the first time in 3 years that you two were this close to each other. his perfume immediately filling your nostrils, taking you back from how your relationship used to be. your heart was practically pounding. it also didn’t help the fact that he was still wearing the same perfume that you got him during your 2nd anniversary.

“yn,

life had so much colour when i looked into your eyes. it’s a strange thing, but that’s just how it is when you love someone.

the typewritten note was staring back at cheol as if it crawled from the box of things he kept in his office and in to the bouquet. seungcheol wasn’t going to deny that he wrote that note to you— because he did. it’s just, the note wasn’t meant to be included in the bouquet.

he wrote that note a year ago— still in the process of trying to move on from your break up, even though it’s been two years. he was so close to mailing you that note along with a birthday gift last year. he only stopped himself because one, that would be weird and two, he would look desperate. cheol knows he is, but he wouldn’t admit that.

the guys like to believe that he never really got over you, which was obvious, because look at what happened. this also begs the question as to who saw the note in his office and who was the culprit to blame.

“cheol—“

“yn, i think we need to talk.”

you two started strolling around the gallery, not knowing where to go or how to start.

you stopped in the farthest corner of the gallery, near the fire exit. far from everyone, you both assumed. “cheol, the note—“

“i didn’t write it,” cheol immediately answers. his comment disappointed you as a part of you still longed for the idea that he still loved you.

cheol saw how your face faltered upon hearing his comment which panicked him. “i mean i did write it but not recently— i wrote it over a year ago. i was hung up on you, i still am i think, i just i don’t even know—“

“cheol, breathe,” you said grabbing his hands, rubbing small circles with your thumb. “it’s okay.”

you led him to one of the benches in the gallery, just so he can collect himself and so that you can calm yourself down as well.

a couple of minutes after cheol had eventually calmed down and has had a few minutes to take a breather, you asked “is everything okay? i’ve never seen you ramble like this.”

“yn,” cheol sighed, embarrassed at his erratic behaviour “i’m sorry.”

“for what?”

“well for rambling, first off,” cheol lets out an embarrassed laugh “but i’m sorry for everything.”

you were confused. “cheol, i don’t think you have anything to apologize for. you didn’t do anything.”

“exactly, i didn’t do anything,” cheol was frustrated. “i should’ve fought for you, for us. i should’ve done something, anything—“

“cheol, i’m so confused.” you were about to cry from frustration “what are you trying to say?”

“yn,” cheol takes a huge breath “why did you invite me here?”

“what do you mean?”

“here, in one of the most important days of your life, in your career.” cheol almost pleads for an answer “why am i here, ynnie?”

“because…”

“because?”

“because you’re important, cheol. you will always be a part of my life. a piece of you lives within my artwork, my writing.” tears were starting to fall from your eyes “you’re in everything that i do, cheol.” you let out a small laugh, slightly embarrassed. cheol started wiping the tears from your face. “you’re here because i want you to be here.”

“what ever happened to us, yn?” cheol asked, looking at you straight in the eyes.

“it wasn’t our time, cheol— i remember us fighting a lot.” you sighed “i loved you, i still do, but we were hurting each other a lot.”

cheol hummed, because he remembered the same thing. he wished it was different, but even he knew that you two would’ve ruined each other.

“do you think it’s our time now?” cheol asked, looking at the artworks on the wall.

“maybe,” you replied softly, a small smile playing on your lips.

kim seungmin. minnie. seungminnie. seungmong. love of my life. light of my life. my favorite puppy. the man who bias wrecked his way into my heart. i think pretty much everyone knew seungmin was my bias before i knew. ffs, i threatened to hit him with a stick for not smiling in pcs and one of my emoji anons sent me a photoset of him to calm me down. and it worked. i think his smile got me first. like, i already liked his singing, especially when i was watching kingdom and heard him in both btob's i'll be your man and iu's love poem. i've, more recently, been getting hypnotized by his dancing. but his smile? i took my eyes off hyunlix for two seconds to look at his smile and that was it for me. amy pointed out that i pout like seungmin (like a week or two before i changed biases) when i'm focusing and that made me incredibly happy. and i know this man is funny. he's a comedic genius. but he's personality. how he always quietly looks out for the members. especially when they're all eating or something and seungmin when they're all eating and he'll offer chan (or whoever is in charge of cooking) food too before grabbing his own. and the kr videos i've seen of him too just added so much more to him that i couldn't help by love him. i could go on forever, but i think it's also the fact that i'm similar to him but I didn't realize it into a few months after i realized he's my bias

i discovered them twice actually. first time was in december of 2022. i spent most of the month at work, school, and the hospital (not for me) and there was a lot going on. watching whatever reels or tiktoks popped up on my fyp.

and then i was doing poorly mentally after my brother 😵 and just stopped pretty much everything. and in february 2023, i found them again. or rather, they found me and i've been holding their hands ever since.

not yet but i'm taking a cheeky little trip this summer and the locations and dates kinda line up so i'm going to try to manifest my way to a show. that or rob a bank ange get tickets for the world tour (whenever they announce that)

You two stood in your bedroom, staring at each other. It went silent a moment ago, and all you could do was think. The man before you, Cove James Holden. Your best friend of ten years now, who has been with you through thick and thin. You knew exactly how you felt about him, how you had always felt about him.

The days that go as my will, there weren't many.

Throughout those years, there were many fights. That time you caught Cove trying to run away, and he proclaimed he would “never tell you anything again!” when you decided to go and tell your moms. But then, upon finding out about your birth parents, Cove was the very first person you went to. He knew just how to comfort you, just like he always had, even when you were distant and kept trying to push him away.

Actually, many didn’t go the way I’d like.

And let’s not forget the time you told him about the deal you were offered. Despite the fact that you pretty much told him right away, and that you didn’t take that twenty dollar bill, he wouldn’t let you near him. But it was understandable, what eight year old wouldn’t be upset? You stuck yourself right by his side regardless, and it was by some sort of miracle the Mr. Holden showed up when he did to resolve the issue.

It feels like today might be one of them.

Things went so well today. You had no real struggle with your outfit, and the event was amazing. You and Cove had worked so hard for it, but you knew it would be great as long as Cove was there.

It’s concerning me.

Cove. Lost in your mind, you nearly forgot you were still standing there, staring at him. When you looked at his face again, lit up by the tiny firefly, you could see it on his face. The silent question, slowly turning into concern as you realized you had been frowning. Great, that’s exactly the last expression you wanted on your face at that moment.

After I say this, I’m not sure if we can face each other again, smiling.

“Cove…”

I don’t know if we can go back to what we were.

You looked directly at him once again, smiling as you took his hand. If you were going to say it, you had to be clear, of course. You could do this, you know you can. How could he not feel the same, after all these years? You knew the way he looked at you was different, and you can’t pretend you haven’t noticed the way his cheeks always flushed when he talked to you. He wasn’t like that with Derek. Not Terri or Miranda, either. Only with you. Moms, Lee, and Liz had constantly teased you two over the years, so maybe, just maybe he felt the same?

But still, I have to say this.

A solid deep breath in. “Cove… I like you.”

There, you did it. You started, and now there’s no turning back. “It’s just, I tried to hold it down, but I can’t do this anymore.”

As you started your confession, your eyes slowly drifted to the ground. It was hard to face him, but you could see that the light of the firefly was gone. At that, you slowly lifted your head once more.

Your eyes are shaking, they’re shaking my heart also.

Knowing Cove for as long as you have, you could tell that he was about to cry. His eyes were wide, and he was staring at you in shock. For a split second you thought maybe he didn’t hear you, but it’s more like he needed the time to process your words. And then, the tears started to spill over.

When this passes, I don’t know if we can go back to when we were casual.

At this point in time, for perhaps the first time since you met, you couldn’t discern Cove’s feelings from his expression. Maybe he felt the same as you, and he was crying because he got emotional. You knew him well enough that this was a very likely scenario. But you also knew it could be because he didn’t and perhaps he felt bad for you. Your heart sunk at the notion, and you wanted so badly to ignore it.

“I’ve been crushing on you like this for a long time, Cove.”

You slowly took his hands in yours. If he wasn’t going to talk, you needed to at least sort it out. Even if you left heartbroken, it would only be that much worse if he blamed himself for it. He doesn’t need to feel bad about not returning your feelings.

“If you don’t feel the same, you can just tell me ‘I’m sorry.’ I’ll be fine, I promise.”

At those words, Cove froze. All the tears that had been pouring like waterfalls left, as if they never existed in the first place.

“Never.”

At that, you froze.

“It took me a long time to say this. I was afraid that you wouldn’t feel the same way. But you’ve never given me any reason to be afraid.”

This time, it was your turn to be shocked. You’re sure that your expression mirrors the one Cove had just a moment ago.

“MC, you’re great. Everything you do is wonderful and fantastic. Which is why I… I like you.”

You suddenly understand why Cove started crying, because the tears poured out of you with much of the same sentiment. It wasn’t because he felt bad, but because he felt amazing. The fact that neither of you were one hundred percent sure that you felt the same, it was like you were carrying around a few tons on your shoulders every day.

But there was no reason to fear that any longer, because he liked you and you liked him. As if to seal the deal, you both leaned in at once. This was it, your very first kiss with Cove. It was like fireworks, brilliant flashes of color crossing your mind as your lips met. You knew deep within your heart that this feeling was much deeper than anticipated. 

As you continued you only felt more and more giddy, the two of you clumsily bumping into each other. Many of your habits you started to share over the years, and this much continued to be true as the two of you started your incoherent, happy mumbling into each other.

“I want to love you.”

Quite literally the song that made me realize you could desire women. Like, carnally. I have a vivid memory of watching the music video (in class on the one computer, WHY??) and reading the lyrics and just… realizing. I knew men and women and men and men could be attracted sexually to each other but… women? It had never crossed my mind. I had been poisoned by this belief that girls who liked girls did it in a “pure” sort of way. I got excited that I was allowed to feel this way, then terrified that I… may very well feel that way. This song was quite literally my sexual awakening (and triggered quite a bit of panic and internalized homophobia). Kinda hilarious now, watching the music video back. It’s so joyful, not promiscuous at all. I was in the nascent period of questioning my sexuality, at that point wondering if I was some sort of bisexual, and this song poured fuel into the fire.

Day6 Discuss New Album Fourever, Songwriting and Upcoming Performances

There's a special kind of magic that happens when live instruments come together to create a song. This is something that Day6 understands very well. Composed of guitarist SUNGJIN, bassist Young K, pianist WONPIL and drummer DOWOON, the quartet is one of South Korea's most well-known pop-rock bands, and for good reason. Since their 2015 debut, they have made it a point to take listeners along for the ride with them, to feel every emotion their music evokes, whether it's sadness, happiness, regret or anything in between. Through stunningly profound lyrics, they manage to take you on an emotional ride with each song. It's been three years since the band released their last EP, The Book of Us: Negentropy, and subsequently went on hiatus for their military service, but they're finally back with brand new stories to tell. "Welcome to the Show," the title track of their new album, Fourever, symbolizes a new beginning but also a mere turning of the page for the group with the same songwriting and emotion-filled vocals that fans know and love. The song is a heartfelt promise to My Days everywhere that the group will always be there for them. Across the seven-song EP, the group also explores the topics of heartbreak, love and more. In true Day6 fashion, Fourever is an album that crosses a wide range of sounds and themes that are both familiar and exciting. Ahead of the release, Day6 hopped on a Zoom call with us to share more about the songwriting process, "Welcome to the Show" and their hopes and dreams for the band in the future.

Sweety High: How does it feel to have a comeback after three years?

Young K: In between, there have been unit works like Even of Day and solo albums, but this time, it's going to be different because having a Day6 album out is something special for us. It feels complete. It feels like doing something and coming out with music that we've been waiting for. SUNGJIN: It doesn't really feel that different. We've always been Day6 and we're trying to communicate through our music, and if it works, fine, and if it doesn't, that's also fine, but I hope you respond really well to our music. WONPIL: We waited for a really long time for the comeback, but I always felt like it was there for us. It's been three years, but I finally feel like we are home. DOWOON: As WONPIL said, we've waited a long time for this comeback. When we started the jam session, it really brought back the old memories of working together, and I'm really glad that we're finally releasing an album.

SH: A lot of time has passed since your last group release. How do you think you've changed during that time, and do you think those changes have contributed to your new music?

Young K: We've definitely grown. Time has passed and we've experienced more. We've lived more so definitely how we think or how we treat music will be different. The attitude, the entire process itself and the amount of music that we've made through our lives has probably changed how we put out music. WONPIL: Even before we put out this album, we had a lot of individual activities and unit works, but what I realized and what I became really certain of is that I really love the music of Day6. Not much has changed, but that's something that I became very aware of and became very certain of.

SH: Do you see this comeback as entering a new era for Day6, or are you just picking up where you left off?

SUNGJIN: It does feel new in a way, but I personally think that it's kind of picking up where we left off. I don't think our music has changed much and we as people didn't really change that much either. Young K: To add on to that, the change would be like we're not trying to be something that we are not. We're not trying to be something different that's awkward. There's probably going to be development but not something fake.

SH: Day6 is known for writing emotionally vulnerable and relatable songs. Do you draw from your own personal experiences when writing songs?

Young K: When you write something, you can't really take out the entire self. So even if you're writing a novel or fiction, there's going to be yourself left in some way. When I write something, I try to write it from a different perspective. I try to make up a character or a storyline or a scene at least. It doesn't start from personal experience but there's going to be some ego in it. It will be peppered with my little experiences.

SH: When songwriting, how do you find the balance between a personal experience and a story your fans will relate to?

Young K: I guess it's like a continuous question. We can start off with an idea or a word or even a guitar riff and then finish it up with all the musical process and stuff, but at the end, I try to think, can somebody relate to it? Is it only my story or a certain character's story, or is it everyone's story? I try to make it more relatable so that you can enjoy it more and feel it more. With writing lyrics I feel like it's different from writing a poem or a novel. There's a limited time and a limited amount of words so we have to be very selective about what kind of words we're going to use. With those limited words, I try to make people feel like it's their story when they listen to it.

SH: What are your hopes and dreams for Day6 going forward?

DOWOON: My hope and dream personally is just to work on my music with these people, the four of us together, and I just want us to do what we do just as we have done so far. WONPIL: My hopes and dreams are similar to what DOWOON said. I hope our music doesn't change, per se. Of course, we can grow and improve as musicians and artists, but I hope our musical style doesn't change and I hope our message doesn't change.

SH: Is there anything else you would like to add?

SUNGJIN: I hope you enjoy our new album and also I hope you can look forward to our work as performers and artists going forward. Young K: To anyone who reads this interview or this message I wish them happiness. WONPIL: I really hope that we can come and see My Day overseas as early as possible. That's my hope. DOWOON: We will be here as we always have been, and I hope you can enjoy our music and us as a band.

Comeback Celebration: Revisiting The Book of Us: The Demon

So, this was the album that made me pay attention to Day6! Though it was their next album, Negentropy, that put them on my favorite artists list, The Demon is definitely a standout album from 2020. After that album, I became enough of a fan to start exploring their past tracks--during which time I experienced, of course, the obligatory listening to "Shoot Me" for three days nonstop phase.

The Demon was a huge emotional statement that met a lot of people exactly where they were at in 2020, I think, and I was one of those people. I'm super picky about albums--though I love lots of songs every year, not many albums are cohesive enough for my taste. The Demon, though, was an album I loved listening to all the way though. It managed to be both a bitter, exhausted blur & a collection of wildly catchy songs that could each stand on their own. In celebration of Day6's return, let's take a look at The Demon again--it's been a while since I've heard some of these tracks!

1. Day and Night

This isn't my favorite Day6 song, but it's definitely top five. I think it was my favorite track from this album right from the beginning--though "1 to 10" was tough competition--and it's definitely still my most-listened track from The Demon. Actually, I bet it's my most-listened track from Day6 as a whole.

Listening again, it's wild just how comforting I find the melodies. Two lines in, and I already feel like I'm coming home from a long trip. The harmonies are wonderful, and I'm obsessed with Sungjin's performance here. I think what I love most about "Day and Night" is that, even as it manages to be genuinely sonically cheerful, pulling itself together into a friendly, upbeat mask, the signature Day6 angst still shows through. (Come to think of it, that's also what I love most about my actual favorite Day6 song, "everyday we fight".) The vocals seem all-to-frequently on the verge of bursting into a full-on wailing ballad, but they're always reined back in, as if the speaker is reminding themself--no, you're singing a cute pop song, you can't be sad. Maybe it's that push-and-pull I find comforting--there's just enough overwhelming emotion hidden in this song that my own emotions can find an outlet, without really having to delve into how crappy I feel. It's like the perfect amount of escapism? Though, at this point, it might just be that I know this song like the back of my hand, and that's what I find comforting--I really did live off this one for a couple of years.

2. Zombie

This is the least exciting track off the album, but I think that's kind of the point. Day6 songs are big and dramatic, like, all the time (which is, of course, why I stan them). So the most impactful emotional statement of this comeback was just... making the title track this kind of dull, soft number. Don't get me wrong, though, because I do actually like this song! The chorus is iconic--I would recognize it anywhere--and that Coldplay-esque electric guitar is gorgeous. Funny enough, I remember "Zombie" being softer & quieter than it actually is. Maybe I remember singing it to myself, a half-whisper without the instrumental, more than I remember the actual song?

3. Tick Tock

Now this is what exhaustion sounds like. This song has a bunch of beautiful vocal moments going on--I think they're what makes this album so listenable, even in its darkest moods. When the vocals aren't there, though, and you're just left with that plodding guitar? And that incessant drum, too, forcing you into a pace just slow enough to be uncomfortable? That's atmosphere, that's for sure. No wonder I loved this song in my junior year of high school--it totally understood me in my silence, silence and barely getting by, dreading every day that I had to put one foot in front of the other.

4. Love me or Leave me

I was not expecting this, of all things, to be Day6's #3 song on Spotify. Like, I listened to it as much as the next guy for all of 2020... and a lot of 2021... but I don't know, it was never my favorite from the album? And I definitely don't like it more than "Better Better" </3

... Okay, I did forget how delightful this instrumental is. The house influences are meshed in so perfectly, especially in the prechoruses. It's fun because it's dance music, but it's also fun because it's inventive in some very exciting ways, and the melodies make my heart feel like it's going to explode!! Yeah, I guess I kind of get it...

5. STOP

The only thing I remembered about this song is that the guitar tastes like dirt--which I was definitely right about, like damn that's an interesting texture! The instrumental is... unpleasantly exciting? (Shoutout to the video-game-shooting noises, whatever those are.) "STOP" is also super singable--I'm surprised I didn't remember how delightful these vocal parts are! I've developed more of a taste for rock music over the years, which might be why I'm enjoying this one so much on revisiting--it might be my new favorite from the album, actually!

6. 1 to 10

This remains a classic, straightforward angst track! There's plenty of lovely belting in the verses and the chorus, reminding me that I'm human and need to breathe.

7. Afraid

Isn't there a Reddit poll somewhere that says this is the best Day6 song ever? I see why it sticks with people--it's loud, but all the layers don't turn the sadness to anger, instead they turn it to this all-consuming, desperate hope instead. The chorus is this expansive, energetic, living thing, and some of its life rubs off on me--what am I going to do with all this sadness? Make it into courage, I guess.

Overall...

Wow, this was fantastic--I remembered The Demon as a solid album, but not this compelling. I remember this album as The Burnout Album; in my memory, it's static, forever in quarantine. Revisiting The Demon, though, I was fully invested in lipsync karaoke for at least half of these tracks. I think it's the vocal performances that fill each song with energy and motion, and they give the album its cohesiveness, too--they make The Demon's world flow together into this strange pop-rock landscape that's consistent, if only in that it can't seem to settle comfortably anywhere. Pop-rock usually tries to find a happy medium between the two genres, taking the most compatible parts of each, but The Demon seems to pick the least compatible parts and pull them together (quite impressively, I think) by sheer force of will. I'm really in love with all the creativity in this album, the variety of influences it draws from; and, looking back, I definitely see that chaotic spark in it, the one that got me sooo obsessed with Negentropy in 2021, even if The Demon's mood is a lot darker.

My MyDay story is kinda funny lol. I had a roommate who was into kpop and the only song that stuck to me was Shoot Me by Day6 but I didn’t think too much about it until I lived with a different girl who was a kpop dance instructor in her home country. She taught a group of us the basics of Whistle by Blackpink and it made me remember that one song I had liked a few months before, and I decided to listen to a shuffle of their other songs on spotify and oh boy I was Hooked. I was raised on 80s/90s rock and I felt like these day6 guys had that same passion that I was missing in a lot of modern pop.

I was just going to listen to them casually but then actually. lol. Wonpil’s voice initially bugged me so bad that I just had to know who he was. After that I wanted to match faces and names to voices so I started watching day6 content like jae6 (may the channel rest in peace 😔)

Jae was kind of my first bias because he was just so accessible as a brand new English-speaking fan, but then I thought that Dowoon was so dorky and adorable so I sort of gravitated to him. I ended up permanently falling for the one and only Mr. Park Sungjin when he started his Bob Sungjin twitter account (may it also rest in peace 😔 stupid hackers) and I saw all the effort he made in his roles as a leader, songwriter, vocalist, and musician, and how down-to-earth he was after all of it. That guy is passion embodied even though he’s quiet about it sometimes and it was just so attractive to me. Still is haha no need for the past tense I suppose

I did end up slowly getting into other bands and regular kpop groups and even though sungjin isn’t my ult anymore he’s still a veeeery close second 🥰

ohh that's quite a journey haha! my best friend made me listen to hi hello and it was such a soft song (i barely listened to any 'soft' songs at that time) and i thought it wasn't my taste but then i couldn't get it out of my head. and yes, wonpil's voice was what made me listen to it again and once i started listening to their other comebacks, i was done for. i was also listening to a lot of rock when i was little so day6's sound has a nostalgic value for me.

jae attracts fans, yes! he was my first bias too honestly i'm more ot5 (like sungjin at top and the rest right after LOL) but his sense of humour and his relatable personality did it to me. jae6 was my fav thing ever too and sungjin's account 😔😔 i miss that time a lot

the day6 fever never stopped honestly there's always a day6 or a day6's member's song in my playlist. i only listened to a few bands after (the rose and onewe, really good discography both of them) but i discovered day6 at a low point in my life so they're always going to be my comfort group 🥰

This is Bang Chan!

Bang Chan is his stage/Korean name, His birth name is actually Christopher Bang. He was born in South Korea in October 1997, but moved to Sydney, Australia when he was really young, so he’s fluent in both Korean and English and has a strong Australian accent when he speaks the latter.

Chan was a trainee for around 7 years and he was given full control to assemble his own group. He’s considered the leader of Stray Kids and not only does he take his job very seriously, but he is very good at it! Many fans refer to him as the ‘dad’ of the group, and you can definitely see that dynamic from time to time. There’s a ton of videos and pics of him being in the back of the group or all the way at the end. He’s stated that he prefers being there so he can see all the boys and make sure they’re okay! (He even stated on one of his lives that number one reason he would get angry or agitated is if the members are uncomfortable or something negative happens to them, so he really cares and watches out for the boys!)

Chan is a part of 3Racha, which is the rap sub-unit within the group that was formed pre-debut and they’re responsible for writing and producing the majority of the Stray Kids discography (as well as their own music which is still up on Youtube). The other two members are Changbin and Han.

Within 3Racha, Chan mostly raps, but within Stray Kids, he tends to sing more than rap (although he does both). He’s also a very skilled dancer, songwriter, and producer, and most of the songs done by Stray Kids are produced by Chan (and Changbin and Han), and he’s also helped arrange many of them as well! He’s an extremely hard and dedicated worker, to the point where he’s gone many nights with very little sleep. He once said:

“...I actually thought of it like this too. Songs could be food for me. Dances could be water to me. Composing could be like air to me. I think that’s how I’m living my life. I don’t think I ever questioned why I do it, since it’s just so natural to me.”

Some songs I personally think he shines in:

Songwriting: I Don’t Want to Admit; Haven; 24 to 25 (these are mainly just songs that he’s credited as writing by himself, according to Google. But Chan has a hand in having some input in writing most of the songs by the group!)

Chan goes live almost every Sunday (or as close to it as he can, depending on his very busy schedule). His lives are called ‘Chan’s room’ and he is currently 171 episodes in (about to be 172!). Each live tends to just be him interacting with Stays, listening to random music recommendations, reacting to some kind of Stray Kids content that may have come out, or just telling everyone random things about his day/week. He has also said some really inspirational stuff in these lives and many Stays consider his lives to be a safe space for them, something which Chan strongly encourages! He’s been very open about having his own struggles in the past (and even in the present) and he always want Stays to feel like they can come to him. It’s very sweet.

Many people consider Chan’s naturally wavy/curly hair to be a major defining physical characteristic of his! We don’t always see his hair in it’s natural state, since they tend to straighten it a lot and all the dyeing and styling over the years have damaged the curls, but they are still there, for sure.

Usually fans refer to him as Chan or Bang Chan, but you might see them suddenly refer to him as Christopher out of nowhere. This is usually because he’s done something out of pocket, like his choice in wardrobe (or lack there of) during the ‘Wolfgang’ performance on Kingdom (he works out and it shows, and he clearly doesn’t seem to mind showing off the fact that he works out, despite his shyness)

Overall, Chan is an extremely hardworking individual who is very talented and skilled at what he does, but he’s also a goofy, adorable nerd, and many Stays adore him for this reason (and many more)!

super junior y'all, their early music is my SHIT- nothing gets me going quite like some early 2000's bops

astro i haven't really kept up with them, but every now and then a song of theirs is reccomended either on tiktok or on spotify and i add it to my playlists

ateez i'm not gonna lie, they have some great tracks, but im deadass scared to get into them. they are intimidating as fUCK

nu'est i was a fairly big fan of them a while back, and it was mainly because of minhyun i watched produce 101 season 2 :)

pentagon their songs give me such summer-vibes, so whenever i need me a good pick me up, i blast their music and pretend its mid-july lmao

24k i listen to only a handful of their songs, but the few songs i listen to, i listen to like all the time hehehe

wanna one i was SUCH a big fan when they were promoting, and it absolutely shattered my heart when they 'disbanded', but its like they say, all good things come to an end :(

day6 they give me a sense of home when i listen to them, but i haven't been supporting them a lot as of recent

infinite there was a solid two month period in like 2016 where i would pretty much give my life for these men, but one day i just forgot they existed, so if i put my music on shuffle and their songs come on, i look like thats so raven, just zooming to a different point in time- its weird

ikon i never really informed myself on what happened with them and b.i. which is 100% my own fault, but ever since the incident i haven't listened to them. idk, it wasn't really on purpouse.

b.a.p i only listen to them during VERY special occasions. when me and my hometown friend are out driving at night during the summer, we always blast their music, it's become tradition by now

Build Up Episode 2: 숨 (Breath)

Welcome back to another recap of MNET’s Build Up. In the last one, we covered Something Like That, and I got myself a new bias! In this one, we’ll be taking a look at The Hardest Song on the Show (along with all the other songs), 숨/ Sum / Breath. Let’s do it!

As has become traditional on the show, the judges talk about how this is the hardest song. They say that about literally all the songs, though. Vocal Coach Guy (VCG) wonders aloud if the guys chose the song voluntarily, or if they were forced to do it because no other songs were available. No, that was mostly Every Moment of You. 

Breath was originally performed by Park Hyo Shin, who, per Wikipedia, “is a South Korean ballad singer and musical theatre actor known for his emotional vocals.” His songs have reached number one on k-pop hot 100 charts, beating established acts like A*pink. Breath came out in 2016 and hit number 1 in Korea. Here’s a cover of it by Chen from Exo, and here’s a cover of it by Jungkook from BTS, and here’s Bang Chan and Lee Know reacting to the original version. I just like covering my bases. 

It’s a sad song, but it’s a bit hard to say what it’s actually about. It seems to be about being depressed and lost and not really wanting to face reality. I’ll let you read the lyrics and decide for yourself.

The guys come up to the sound of athletic guitar music, like they’re ready to wrestle or box or something. It’s… 

LTR: Lim Junhyeok, Choi Haram, Jeong Inseong from KNK, Lee Hwanhee from Up10tion

Lim Junhyeok, the one who was a member of Day6 for about six months, introduces himself as a singer-songwriter. He was V5.

Choi Haram introduces himself as the “icon of challenge”. He’s a musical actor and was V8. 

Jeong Inseong is from KNK and seems to have a certain fanbase out there. He was V6. He introduces himself as the main vocal of KNK with a “soft charisma.”

Lee Hwanhee is from Up10tion, but you might remember him better from Boys Planet. He introduces himself as the cutie of team Breath. He smiles big, and then just a tiny bit looks like he wants to evaporate.

“Why do I keep going on these shows omg when will people just like my voice it’s a good voice I hate dancing I just want to sing oh god…” --Hwanhee, probably

The show makes a lot of their “prince-like visuals.” Are they handsome? You guys know by now that I have no idea who is or isn’t considered handsome by other people. 

Eunkwang gets right to the point and says it’s an extremely difficult song, so did anyone there choose it voluntarily? Haram, looking dapper in his pinstripes, says it was his first choice. The judges ask why.

Time for a flashback!

I’ll tell you now the order that the guys join. Inseong was in 11th place and chose it first, then Haram in 21st place chose it. Hwanhee came right after Haram, while all other options were still open, so it’s fair to say that at least those three consciously chose the song as their best option. Junhyuk was tied for 38th and had a choice of either Every Moment or Breath, and chose Breath, so it wasn’t really much of a choice for him.

We see the guys talking about how Breath is hard and wondering who would want to tackle it. But we also see the other guys asking Haram what he wants to do, and he always answers “Sum” (Breath). 

Side note: Kpop songs where you can hear the word “sum”!  It’s in the first line of Sugar Rush Ride by TXT (saenggageun got sumeul meomchweosseo), it’s at the beginning of the chorus of Mmmh by Kai (Mmmh mmmh, sumeul naeshwigo baeteo like…), and of course it’s in the first line of Breathe, performed by Lee Hi and written by Jonghyun (sumeul keuge swieobwayo). Those were just the first few songs I thought of. If you open your ears, you’ll hear “sum” a lot. 

We learn that Haram is a pianist as well as a musical actor.

Huh huh. Pianist.

Haram explains that he hasn’t engaged much in Korean music as he pursued classical music, but Park Hyoshin’s songs were his first exposure to singing. “I know it’s a really dangerous choice,” he interviews, “but I really wanted to sing the song that raised my dream on stage.”

Hwanhee takes the wrong route up to Breath and ends up going all the way around. Isn’t that just how things go for Hwanhee? He needs General Gunwook to boss him around. 

As Junhyuk arrives on the team, we get to see a little of his life. (I found a nice video on Youtube of this part, if you want to watch it. )

He says that he writes and sings his own songs, confirming my suspicion that songwriting is his true love, not singing exactly. He says that he has been releasing singles, and even teaching students at an academy.

Haram and Junhyuk take the lead on dividing harmonies almost immediately. 

Inseong asks Hwanhee, what she would do now? And Hwanhee says, “I guess… take a breath?” 

“They talked about music stuff a lot,” Hwanhee interviews. “To be honest, I don't know much about that. They were using difficult musical words so I couldn’t say anything. It was scary/” See? He needs someone to boss him around. Luckily, he has Haram and Junhyuk! 

Hwanhee tries singing his part, using a lot of vibrato, and Junhyuk confirms my good opinion of him by suggesting that Hwanhee dial back the vibrato a lot. It’ll give it a more casual, conversational feel.

Haram is so glad to have Junhyuk on his side to help, and we see a little montage of Haram working really hard. Does this mean Haram will be top tier?

My thoughts:

This was a great performance. All four of them had voices I found myself liking a lot. Listening with my eyes closed, I was still able to pick out Hwanhee (I mean it’s pretty obvious) but I was listening to the others blindly and I found I had a positive opinion of all four voices. I don’t even want to nitpick them too much since I really thought this was all very good. I didn’t even mind the song -- I put this on my playlist. 

Haram’s voice is so full and mature, it’s almost incongruous with his youthful looks. I really like how he sings, though I’d prefer if he used a little less vibrato. There may have been moments when he was very slightly off pitch, but I couldn’t swear to it because the song’s melody isn’t super clear to me. I also would have preferred if he sang with his eyes open. But those are nitpicks. His voice is lovely.

Side note: He and Hwanhee are both wearing suits that are way too big on them.  What’s up with that, stylist unnies? Did you ask them to wear sweaters and they said no so you punished them with giant suits? 

Inseong’s voice is rich like Haram’s, but not quite as deep, and a bit smoother. I have no criticism. He also does a great job harmonizing with Hwanhee, singing in a sweet falsetto. I know I’m not saying a lot about Inseong, but it’s just because I have no notes! He did great. 

If you read my Boys Planet recaps, you know that I really like Hwanhee’s voice and always have. I think he sounds a lot like Baekhyun from Exo, and that is fully a compliment to both of them. He uses more vibrato than I would have liked here, but that’s a preference thing. I think he did great here, and I hope he won a few fans, since I feel like not many people supported him on Boys Planet. But isn’t it satisfying when it’s his turn to sing? I love his full belts. 

I wasn’t thrilled with Junhyuk in his teaser performance, but I find his story so sad and affecting that I was really rooting for him. So I was so glad to find out that the full, bright, satisfying belts I heard with my eyes closed belonged to Junhyuk. He also proved himself singing low as a counterpoint to Haram later in the song. Ok, his vocal color is a tiny bit sharp in tone (not pitch), but not unpleasantly so. He can get a tiny bit nasal, but it’s never anything “bad.” 

The harmonies were great overall, and I credit those to Junhyuk and Haram. 

I don’t know who I’d pick as my top tier, I really don’t. Every time I think I’ve decided on someone and type his name, I immediately change my mind to someone else. This was a strong team, in my opinion. 

The MNET Edit is kind, as is usual on this show. It was funny for me to hear one of my biases (Baekho) compliment another one of my biases (Hwanhee). But it seems that the judges didn’t like Junhyuk -- they were squirming around uncomfortably during his high belts. Well, I liked it, you dumb dumbs. 

Hong Seong Jun is enjoying the singing. I think. I guess?

When the song is over, everyone applauds and says they did a good job. 

VCG says that the song is hard to sing well, then tells Haram that he enjoyed his singing, for not trying to imitate the original singer too closely, but instead singing it in his own style. 

VCG goes on to say that Junhyeok was disappointing with “one thing” -- his voice was too “bare” in the chorus. He wanted to hear his “modal voice”, which I think meant his chest voice. I disagree, personally. I think having the contrast of Junhyeok’s voice was refreshing. But I guess that’s just a matter of taste. Also, since VCG said that Junhyeok was disappointing with “one thing”, the implication is that VCG must have had a lot of compliments for Junhyeok as well that we didn’t get to see. 

We don’t hear them say anything about Hwanhee or Inseong. 

The judges vote, and it’s unanimous -- they all vote for Choi Haram. 

That seems fair -- his singing was impeccable, and he also helped devise the harmonies. 

Haram pretty much can’t believe it. 

He almost looks like he’s going to pass out for a second, then says thank you and promises to keep working hard to justify his win.  

As the guys leave the stage, the judges say that they’re glad that the difficult song worked out so well. Then VCG adds, “It’s so nice to have an audition with just singing. I’m used to dancing too and this is much better.” 

Ok, my friends, I’ll post this much so that I can keep going crazy with as many screen shots as I want. Just two more songs to go! I fear I’m going to fall further and further behind… Sigh. aah i like all the songs you have for tecna!! since tecna canonically likes edm, & k-pop has like a lot of edm. i thought it wouldn’t be that hard, but i actually only settled for one song lol.

i honestly want to do specialist x k-pop but i have no clue what genre they like 😭 i don’t think they have a canon genre they like, like the winx

aaa i'm glad!! yeah kpop edm is always either noisy boy group or pussy poppin girl group and while i do think tecna would like some of it, most of it just doesn't seem very Her yknow? but i love begin for her!! also big agree on the city pop genre for tec too!!

yeah we know even less about the boys! while the girls have at least one canon genre, i don't think they've ever shared anything about the boys in relation to what music they listen to? you Could argue for rock since they were briefly a rock band but eh?

i don't know if it'll help but i do have a kpop playlist for the specialists! i really mostly associate day6 with them since it matched the band vibes they have but isn't like Hard rock yknow? i think at some point riven does listen to what sounds like a rock song so i def think he's into that (no surprise there) so maybe guerrilla by ateez or scream by dreamcatcher?, sky strikes me as a 3rd gen ballad lover alkhdgl, brandon i think would really like 3rd gen boy groups and 4th gen girl groups (uh oh by gidle maybe?), i think timmy would actually dabble in everything but not have any firm opinions? like he would listen to random groups here and there but not stan or even have a favorite genre in kpop. i do think he would enjoy early txt songs though (maybe runaway or magic?) helia is just straight up a krnb and osts bitch aldhgljahg i think he would like bibi though!

I miss day6 too, I know they're still doing stuff with music but it's really not the same without Jae. I do use Spotify btw, my top song was scrawny by the wallows and I'm pretty sure my top artist was lemon demon. The first kpop song on the list was aespa's iconic at number six though. And I think you'll be pleased to know I keep listening to xdh lol

I've always had cats, I think six total, including the ones we have now? Scooby is easily the oldest I've ever had though, he's around seventeen. And yeah animals socialize better earlier in life but depending on how you introduce them and the animals individual personality it could easily be done later in life. Scooby was on the streets before we adopted him and so even after we bought him home and he'd get angry when we even just came in smelling like other cats but he's perfectly fine with having other cats in the household. I do think I prefer cats because while they can get just as needy I'm way more used to caring for them compared to dogs. In short don't let your dreams be dreams lol

Young K talks about his new album, how music brings people together and his experiences in Brazil

The musician took some time to talk to the HIT team! in an exclusive interview and digital cover for the September magazine! Check it out below:

TIME HIT – “Letter With Notes” is your first album since “Eternal” and your break for military service. How do you feel coming back this time with a new album?

Young K: I'm nervous but excited. I can't wait to share my music with you! I wanted to come back with an album, but I wasn't focusing on a whole one. I only submitted several songs and I think 11 of them were selected.

TIME HIT – Putting the album “Eternal” and your new release “Letters with notes” under analysis, what do you think is the biggest difference between their concept?

Young K: Besides the concept, I think the biggest difference would be the time that has passed. My voice changed and so did my way of thinking. So the story I tell and the words and notes I took must be different in some way.

TIME HIT – You are one of the most famous composers in Korea, with more than 100 songs signed. What is your creative process like when composing songs?

Young K: I always try to compose something that matches the song. So I took another look before finishing and making sure everything is ok.

TIME HIT – Do you remember the first song you composed?

Young K: The first song should be “daydreaming”. A song I wrote on guitar when I was in Canada. It's been 10 years now, so when I look at her, I think she's cute.

TIME HIT – The lyrics you write and the songs you sing have a positive impact on the lives of many people, every day. What's it like to be part of people's lives with your music, to be present in the happy and sad moments of your fans' lives?

Young K: I'm grateful that they take it that way. When I publish my songs and present them to the world, it's like they leave me. It's really up to the fans to choose to listen to them. If they feel something with them, I'm grateful for that.

TIME HIT – What advice would you give to beginning musicians?

Young K: Always do your best, but don't forget to take care of yourself. Be clear about who you are and take time to ask yourself if you are okay. This is for everyone, not just anyone who wants to be a musician.

TIME HIT – You were in college during the release of “Every DAY6” and it was certainly a big challenge! What advice would you give to university students who are going through challenges in their academic life?

Young K: Besides taking care of yourself, experience life. As much as you can. Learn in classes, learn from your friends, learn from every event you may face. Go travel, maybe. Time never comes back, so it's an opportunity you won't want to miss.

TIME HIT – What is your favorite memory while living in Canada?

Young K: Spending time with my dear friends. Talking about nothing important until late at night.

TIME HIT – Is there an instrument you would like to learn? And one that you tried, but gave up on because it was difficult?

Young K: I wanted to play the piano, so I took lessons. But due to lack of time and desire, they took me to this point, which is very close to the beginning. I learned to play a little drums with Dowoon, but I realized it was something I hadn't dreamed of at the time.

TIME HIT – You have had many experiences and achieved a lot in life. What is your dream currently? Something you haven't done or achieved yet, but really want to one day?

Young K: My dream currently is to sing and perform on stage as much as possible. To do this, I have to stay as healthy as possible. Not just me, but you too.

TIME HIT – Latin American fans are a very passionate audience for K-pop. Is there a Latin American rhythm that you would like to incorporate into your music one day?

Young K: We actually tried to incorporate them into some previous songs! I'm still open to challenges.

TIME HIT – Language is no longer a barrier to the power of music. How do you feel with so many fans spread across such distant places and with such different cultures and languages?

Young K: I would like to meet them and sing. It's always impressive to see how this is possible. When they sing together, it really is a different feeling. It makes me want to come back with more songs.

TIME HIT – You have collaborated with artists such as Ben&Ben, Jamie Miller and Park Moonchi. Are there any artists you would like to collaborate with at the moment?

Young K: I'm open to collaborations! Anyone interested, just give me a touch. It would be an honor to do something, anything with Ryan Tedder.

TIME HIT – Your project “YOUNG ONE” is loved by fans and the videos have accumulated millions of views. Which cover did you enjoy recording the most?

Young K: I think recording on a boat was something I could never forget. The song was “Fly Me To The Moon” and the night in Amsterdam was beautiful.

TIME HIT – What is your favorite karaoke or to sing in the car?

Young K: The songs to sing in the car would be the ones I need to practice. I like to spend my time in a car practicing songs I'm going to sing, or warming up my voice.

TIME HIT – Which musical genre do you want to explore a little more?

Young K: Maybe jazz in the future. Jazz is a genre I'm interested in, but have never delved into.

TIME HIT – What memory from your tour do you like most?

Young K: The different energies of different cities. Spending time with the members on the tour bus, and recording “YOUNG ONE” in my free time. And last but not least, the food.

TIME HIT – What is your favorite movie of all time that you would recommend to fans?

Young K: I wouldn't say all time, but one of my favorite movies that I loved most recently was “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish”.

TIME HIT – Eating is certainly one of your passions. Have you ever eaten Brazilian food? Is there a Brazilian dish you would like to try?

Young K: I've tried barbecue and loved it. I would like to try Vatapá one day.

TIME HIT – Can you send a message to your Brazilian fans?

Young K: I hope you guys always stay healthy! And I also wish you happiness and luck. If we can meet one day, let the night be filled with passion and love!

My thoughts of Love All Play Ep 1 after rewatched it

PART 1

Taeyang and "fish".

The first scene was Taeyang trying to make a sashimi from a fresh (and still alive) fish.

I noticed that Taeyang said "human" and "don't live like me" referring to "me" as the different thing from "human".

Suddenly the song "Zombie" by Day6 came to my mind.

If I were new to watch this ep without the knowledge of the whole story, I wouldn't get the meaning of this scene. It feels like this drama (first time I watched this scene) was showing a comical side in the very first scene, that can make people interested in it and want to follow every single step of the main characters' growth. But after I was a bit annoyed with the blue filter, I think differently. I signed up for this to watch a cutie lovey dovey and humorous drama, but the fact is this drama IS A FULLY ANGST. Blue color in a movie (from what I know) might have the meaning of faith, spirituality, contentment, loyalty, fulfillment peace, tranquility, calm, stability, harmony, unity, trust, truth, confidence, conservatism, security, cleanliness, order, sky, water, cold, technology, depression.

And I wanna emphasize more about "depression" here.

From what I know after I finished this drama for the first time, so obvious that every character has their own anxiety and the main characters were depressed to face so many unsolved problems they had for years.

So, that scene was a description of Taeyang who couldn't do anything but blaming herself as the troublemaker of her life and people' lives. But then, she got a call and decided to move and came back to play badminton, a passionate feeling but at the same time, she feel so anxious.

"I have nothing to fear thanks to you."

means she might ready to face her fearness after 3 years being disappeared. She learnt something new, she learnt to cook, to live alone, to not depend on someone who not always be with you when you need them the most.

Taejun, Junghwan, and "silver medal"

Junghwan said, "I'm upset enough about winning silver."

THIS IS FORESHADOWING.

SPOILERS: in ep 16, Taejun instead will get a silver medal, and Junghwan can get a gold medal.

I feel Taejun got feeling that he will get a silver medal, dunno when. And despite the foreshadowing, he actually didn't like what Junghwan said about medals and "upset". Seems like the silver medal means nothing for him, and Taejun, who still have inferiority complex about himself, would so upset and he set a dangerous glance pointed to Junghwan.

Taejun and his reason to forfeit

"Let's not throw down our lives for a sport. I forfeit."

I think he really wanna say this to his sister, Junyoung. After she got injured, her life was crashed down and she can't do anything. She disappeared and felt so useless. That's why Taejun said that. Because as a human, we have to make some plans just in case we fall from our goals and can't do anything but cry a lot.

Taejun also wanna show that people can get out from their passionate work or interest if they want. People can move on, if they want. People can give up, if they want. And for him that time, he feels he can get rid of his half life (badminton) with no doubt, coz he didn't think badminton is his passion. He and his inferiority. Always.

But in this scene, Taejun was really sad. He lied to himself. He being hard to himself by saying that HE DOESN'T NEED BADMINTON IN HIS LIFE. I can feel that he wants the medal so bad. He wants to get more recognition. He wants to show and make sure that he is good at playing badminton. He wants to show the world that he is not a dirtbag, or a loser. But he ended up forfeit, his bff, Jaesik got injured, and it's all because of badminton. I think Taejun has a love-hate relationship with badminton. He feels ambivalent for it.

Similar with Taeyang, she is so passionate about this sport, but after that incident and rumors spreading out in her field, she was hopeless people would recognize her. But Yumin still remember her.

"It's nice being back. There are people who recognize me."

SOOOOO CONTRAST WITH WHAT TAEJUN FEELS THAT TIME. That day, was actually their day.

Taejun feels that after he made some excuse like that, he still just a mediocre player who can't be recognized by people, and Taeyang feels after she came back, she didn't expect someone would see her and remember her. She actually just expecting the worst. But Yumin makes her realized that "ah, finally someone recognized me. Ah, so badminton still save my place even if it's so tiny, narrow, and too small for me to get in."
