I'd love to see you talk about resident angsty teen Juvenal and posterchild Horace xD
love your blog!!!
Why, thank you! Alas, I do not know very much about Roman poets and satirists. I'm more into the politics/sociology side of history.
But if you haven't seen it already, I think you would love @ovidiana's work! Their comic, the Dead Romans Society, is really funny, touching, and heartfelt. I especially enjoy the artist's skill with characterization and portraying grief. Horace makes a bunch of appearances, and Juvenal's shown up a couple times, too.
Nothing is better than watching old movies by yourself at night, wearing your favorite pajamas, softest socks, with the best blanket and a warm bowl of popcorn.
Happy Vergil Birthday! Who's your most favourite Roman poet?
!! Ah! Happy Birthday Vergil! Edit: Oops, thanks to the person who corrected me - apparently it was October 15th, according to the traditional date.
Alas, I'm utterly tone-deaf to poetry. Tried many times; can't "feel" the vibes, even if you add music. Not that this stops me from trying to write it, in the same way an eel might try to ride a motorcycle.
However! I love the Dead Romans Society by @ovidiana, which is all about Roman poets, so I'll name my favorite characters from there. Vergil is wonderful. I sympathize with him the most, and enjoy all of his appearances. Ovid is so different, and different from me, but I really like how he's also intelligent, funny, and thoughtful in his own way. Clodia Metelli won my heart immediately and inspired me to read an actual biography of her. And Sappho might be Greek, but she's always a delight, and I love her self-possessed confidence and sharp wit. You can tell the artist put a ton of thought and love into all of their characterizations.
caffeine stopped working for me when i was 13 now i drink it for the voyeurism of it, like look at me and this bitter thing and how well we go together
