Still on my Dreamer Trilogy reread. Don't know if anyone has pointed this out before (probably don't care) but Bryde-- dreamt by Ronan to be the answer to all of his problems, to guide him, to be the father figure he lost, to be all the things Ronan feels like he's lacking, solid in the way Ronan never can be-- is like DEFINITELY a conglomerate of all of the men Ronan looks up to or has looked up to throughout his life. ESPECIALLY Gansey, I think. The way he's described as looking like a storybook hero with features suspiciously like Gansey's and this quote: "There was something about the way he stood there now with his hands in the pockets of his jacket, his expression expectant, that made him seem familiar. Every so often Ronan felt like he almost recognized him, and then it went away again." Like, Gansey has been such a constant in Ronan's life for years now, possibly the only thing really keeping him moored to shore, and now he's gone off without Ronan (remember if you will the jealousy of Gansey taking Adam to that party without him) and Ronan is UNMOORED. In need of DIRECTION. In need of CONNECTION. And hails from the sky the perfect storybook hero to push his limits, to take him on an adventure, to take the weight of problem-solving and decision-making and future-planning off of Ronan's shoulders because he doesn't want it and never has. Of course, Bryde also has a lot of Niall and Declan in him, along with whatever extra spice Ronan’s subconscious fed into him. Bryde has the mysterious, almost bland disposition of Declan while also having the penchant for danger and storytelling (ONE OF THE FIRST TIMES HE COMES TO RONAN IN DREAMS HE SAYS "ARE YOU GOING TO BE QUIET?") of their father (of course Declan also has things things but fuck if Ronan knows that or is going to acknowledge it). I'd suspect there's a bit of Adam in him too, in Bryde's mistrustfulness and secret-keeping........ much to think about . Much indeed

been thinking a lot about how the gangsey boys changed from TRC to TDT and how they each became more like one another.

tdt adam has grown into trc gansey. by that i mean that, on the outside adam is living his dream life �� he’s attending his dream school (very elite), is very popular, appears to fit — but on the inside has crippling anxiety and imposter syndrome. adam has taken on not only gansey’s old world of elite academia & easy success, but also his ability to mask & fit into the world. he says in one deleted chapter “their bodies shouted truth. not adam’s, though.” this really lays it out for me because he has changed everything about himself & achieved his ambitions but he feels like a liar & fake & like no one knows him which is pretty much trc gansey’s whole thing.

tdt ronan grew into trc adam. in tdt ronan feels isolated, like an outsider, completely unknowable and unloveable. he feels like this in large part because everyone else is doing well, doing their own thing without him, and, in his mind, he is the only one struggling, stuck where he is with no way out. this may be the most obvious switch. trc adam “unknowable” parrish always feels out of place because he doesn’t feel that he belongs in the aglionby world. tdt ronan feels so out of place because he is not able to live in adam’s world or gansey’s or live out the vision that declan had for him, he feels like a burden and an outcast.

and tdt gansey is sorta kinda trc ronan (less angry tho). hear me out: gansey is off going on his own little magical adventure. no one really knows what’s going on with him. he is only reachable sporadically when he calls with random life updates about his strange adventures. it gives very much “oh btw i took chainsaw out of my dreams” energy. gansey has taken on ronan’s relaxed view of life but is just showing it in a more gansey way. trc ronan was living life in a reckless, only looking for a fun time bc things suck, sort of way which is what tdt gansey is doing with his third chance at life.

this is all to say that those posts about everyone being a little bit of everyone they’ve ever known & loved are true.

Thank you for your patience, everyone! The participants have been chosen, the bracket has been tentatively created, and preparations for Round One are underway!!!

Thank you for the feedback on my poll about the number of participants. Although the option for accepting further submissions had the most support, after narrowing down the eligible participants to 102, I decided it would be best to continue with the current number so the tournament could begin! As a result, some characters with a higher seeding will automatically move to the second round to accommodate the awkward number of competitors.

📝❤️&❓- which characters of yours are your favorites to write?

📝 what stages are you currently in your WIPs?

Which one I'm actively working on varies wildly - I've actually been mostly working on kiss scenes (which I'm about 80% done with) and that quasi-canonical Sheri story (which I'm about 25% done with) - but for my 4 main wips:

TFA: trying to dig into Anni and Zel's dynamic and figure out how to tie together Anni and Dez's separate trajectories, thematically or otherwise. They spend a lot of the story in two different places doing two different things. Because of shifting things around I'm not sure how much actually will stay in this draft but let's say I've written like 20% of a full draft.

Triad: haven't actually worked on this one in a while, and I will be starting a new draft when I get back to it. I've been replotting it to make the plot align more with non-romance goals such as stealing birds and also give us more time with Keearo's family.

AOM: like TFA, suffering from "what do you mean I have to write the middle", though to be fair I also haven't been motivated to write most of the beginning stuff in Ensaum because I need a better hook for myself than Colin & Sid's weird doomed romance. The next thing to do is flesh out the dynamics that will be present on Phil's boat when Horatio, Sid, Sorian, and Avis all join her for the trip to Imni. It's not pretty.

Nicea: extremely fragmentary and coming together as I think of more things. Next on my loose list is to write Isabel saying goodbye to Darnell (has Darnell actually gotten married? is he pregnant again? I have many questions) and maybe get back to the sex scene between her and Tatya. I also need to orchestrate a meltdown for Declan and write Spinder working with the engineering bay gear.

❤️ what are your favorite scenes from your WIPs?

AOM: Avis unintentionally making Sorian choke on his water because she needed to be mean Right Now. Also Horatio talking about funerals over toast like it's the most normal thing in the world. Sid's face off against his parents and also his sexy scenes with Colin. Emma fucking tearing into Donovan about the letters the second he comes in the door.

Nicea: Fabian and his vibrator necklace. The scene where Tristan accidentally breaks the gravity. Tatya's introduction. Rodney's adventure to find the keys to Declan's storage unit, mostly because Martin and Kara are my favorites forever. Also probably any scene where someone is having a chat with Tatya. Cady and Declan's various reunion scenes.

TFA: one that hasn't made it into the current draft where Dez is sitting under the stars with Nidilaenn and Ellery and tries rooting for the first time. Vinnek's introduction. Dez getting in trouble for saying bad words at the library. Anni and Zel chatting on the train. Another scene that may or may not happen in the current draft but I feel like it should - Dez talking to Hoven one on one for the first time over translation work. Anni talking books with Mel. Anni making it through customs with Dez in a suitcase (this one might be my most favorite actually).

❓which characters of yours are your favorites to write? This is such a fun one. A few that I particularly enjoy writing:

Avis. I just Get her voice. It helps that she's opinionated as hell

Syndy. Same deal as Avis but also android. Actually all of the androids are so fun to write

Tirias. My baby. Mx. Women Are My Favorite Guy but she's both the women and the guy. Just so full of sass and drama and in love with the world

Rolf and also Snap. They're just my goofy sexy lil guys

Bean. He's one of those magical children's book guides like Mary Poppins except he's just a regular human middle school teacher (this is part of his magic) and also transmasc (for Red at least this is also part of his magic)

Julian. He's not easy to write exactly but I just really like him and think he's interesting. He is the most guy forever

Leon and Edith. They're so full of life, laughter, and sarcasm and they play off of each other so well

Martin and Kara. Like Leon and Edith except more understated. Martin is always leaning against something amicably and Kara is always doing something and they're very in love your honor

Isabel. She's not quite as easy to write as Avis even though they have some of the same vibes, however, I feel like I did myself such a disservice not writing from her perspective in Old Canon. Also she curses a lot and it kinda seems like the more curses the more fun it is

Graham. The way he speaks is directly based off Bill and Ted. The kind of person who would say "women are my favorite guy" and take a refined sip from his space Red Bull

It is about RAGE and REGRET. FEAR and FORGIVENESS. It is BEING THE MONSTER AND ASKING FOR LOVE ANYWAY

Ok but. But but. Are there any other parallels? You could go the Lynch brothers route (Dick as Declan, Tim or Damian as Matthew, Bruce as a complicated and dead Niall whose obsessions killed him without considering what it would leave behind for his sons). But I think this really only considers the characters relationships with Jason, not who they are as a person. IF we are looking at who they are instead of their relationships (so yes this does not consider romantic/platonic/blahblah):

It would be easy to say Dick is Gansey. They have the same name, are ~leaders~, and are canonically the prettiest princess in any room. I get it and maybe in the Titans you'd be right, but here, Bruce is Gansey. He is the one with the quest! He is the one driving things forwards and bringing the others along. He's the one with the family name and the family wealth and the family home. He went through something traumatic as a child that irrevocably changed him, fueled his intense guilt and obsession. He brought the group together, and yet feels left behind by them. Someone who cares deeply about the people immediately around him, and yet will not stop pursuing his other goals even if it's hurting them or himself. Obsessed, I think, with proving that he deserves to be here.

Which means that Dick...is Adam Parrish. Like. The constant search for independence. The perfectionism. The bad relationship with his father that forced him to need to be his own man. (Sorry real Bruce but you sucked in batman #416) Loving someone so much and yet always thinking the worst of them. Refusing to be a burden and yet accepting any yoke that comes his way. The intensity of the performance, of pretending to be who you wish you were for the people you care about. Taking on responsibilities because there is literally no other choice, nothing else you could do. Picking the best of your options and knowing that none for them are to rest easy. Valuing freedom so much and giving up your literal body for the quest.

PLUS (less perfect but): Cass as Henry Cheng (and not just bc they are both asian do not look at me like that) Narrative outsider who was watching from afar and put themselves in the narrative. Was molded by shady parent's shady business practices. Was put in a situation as a child they should not have had to endure, which challenged their beliefs and shaped them anew. And maybe like, later Tim as Noah, a bright, fun, young kid on a skateboard who gets himself involved in something too big for him and is undeniably damaged by it. Tim isn't betrayed by someone the way Noah is, but he's kind of...betrayed by the narrative, in a way? Betrayed by the adventure that he thought he was getting. Too clever for his own good, but sometimes naive about people. Lowkey a mirror that lets people see whatever they want to see lol

(I don't see super clear parallels for anyone else lol but I did have a fun time with the thought of Damian as Blue (short/down to fight/has another family/environmentalist/kind of feels fundamentally alienated as someone who is not like everyone else/wears green))

(This is the first time in a long time I've written het sex and it's long lmao not my best but I tried)

Declan Lynch had never considered himself to be particularly sexually adventurous. He’d had plenty of sex in general, an unhealthy coping skill he’d taken on after becoming de facto head of his family. One night stands with forgettable women. Literally in and out.

But since Jordan, his view of and experience of sex had been turned upside down.

There were things Declan had done with Jordan that would have never entered his mind in a million years. She’d opened up his mind (and his heart) to a whole new world of pleasure and he honestly felt like a completely different person.

There were a lot of reasons for that, but the expansion of his sex life was certainly a part of it.

It was their first anniversary. Declan had booked a suite for them at the Four Seasons in Boston. He’d finished work and was now sitting across the table from his gorgeous wife as they enjoyed a delicious dinner with a bottle of champagne.

Jordan was dressed in dark green silk, her tattoos on display, her kinky hair arranged in a faux hawk. She was wearing all of the jewelry that Declan had bought her, including the enormous diamond engagement ring he’d given her (after the social security number).

She glanced up at him, curious, and stretched a leg out to tap his shin under the table.

“You alright, Pozzi?” she asked.

Declan smiled and nodded. “Yeah. Just distracted.”

“Mmm,” Jordan hummed, sipping her champagne, leaving behind a smear of red lipstick. “I can tell.”

“You look beautiful.”

“So you’ve said. Several times.”

Declan shrugged, not even ashamed. Jordan deserved to know how beautiful she was as often as possible.

“You do, too,” she told him. “You pull off a suit so well.”

Declan chuckled, squeezing Jordan’s hand as her fingers found their way to his.

They finished dinner and split dessert. Declan paid and offered his arm to his wife as they headed back to their hotel. They chatted idly, as they had been throughout dinner. About Declan’s work, Jordan’s latest project, making sure that they RSVP’d to Ronan and Adam’s wedding, where Hennessy and Carmen were in the world.

They walked through the hotel lobby and Declan rested his hand on Jordan’s lower back as they waited for the elevator to take them upstairs. Jordan leaned into him, one hand sliding under his jacket. Her nails were painted a cool pink color that complemented her dress.

They arrived at their floor and Jordan took Declan’s hand. He keyed them into their suite and they stepped inside.

“Well this is posh,” Jordan said, walking through the entryway, Declan’s hands in hers. The suite was like a studio apartment. It was spacious, modern, and elegant. There was a beautiful bouquet of flowers on one of the tables and another bottle of champagne.

Jordan kissed Declan’s cheek and pulled away to sit on an ottoman and take off her heels. Declan took off his shoes and met Jordan’s eyes across the room. She smiled, winked, slid the thin straps of her dress off her shoulders.

“You’ll have to help me with this,” she said and Declan obliged. He kissed her shoulder, her neck, breathing in the spicy-sweet scent of her perfume, gently unzipping the dress. Jordan slid her arms from the straps and let the silk fall to the floor.

She turned her head and Declan kissed her, open mouthed and eager. Jordan reached up a hand, curling her fingers into Declan’s hair, his arms around her, palms sliding over her stomach.

They pulled apart when the angle got to be a little too much. Jordan pulled off the pasties she was wearing, laughing, dropping them to the floor, and turned, wearing absolutely nothing but her jewelry and tattoos. Declan’s eyes wandered from her head to her toes. He couldn’t wrap his mind around the fact that this woman was married to him. It seemed impossible.

“You’re wearing far too many clothes,” Jordan stated, hands sliding into Declan’s jacket, peeling it from his shoulders. “You look delectable in the fitted suits, my love, but honestly.”

Declan chuckled and Jordan giggled, working the perfectly-fitting jacket from Declan’s broad shoulders, dropping it to the floor. Declan’s heart rate increased as Jordan worked at the buttons of his shirt, taking off his cufflinks first, making sure they didn’t get lost, then the buttons at the front. Jordan’s nimble fingers slid the buttons free and Declan watched her face.

Her dark eyes met his as her warm fingers delicately pulled the shirt apart.

“Declan Tadhg Lynch,” she said, licking her red, red lips. “Lingerie? For me?”

“Happy anniversary,” he replied. “I thought you’d like it.”

Declan had been wearing it all day, which had been a rather interesting, transgressive sort of experience. It was all blue lace, the same color as his eyes, that did nothing to hide anything at all.

“I love it,” Jordan replied. “Now I have to get you undressed faster.”

They both laughed, Declan sliding out of his shirt as Jordan worked on his pants. He stepped out of them, in nothing but the lingerie, Jordan’s eyes were very dark as she looked at him, appreciating. Declan’s cheeks heated and heat pooled in his stomach.

Jordan held up a finger and twirled it and Declan stepped in a slow circle.

“Stop,” she said, Declan’s back to her. He felt Jordan come up behind him, her hands curling around his ass, squeezing.

“Blimey,” she hummed. “Aren’t you a delicious piece of Irish ass?”

Declan shrugged one shoulder and Jordan laughed, kissing the back of his neck, hands on his hips, tugging him around to face her. “Come here.”

They kissed deeply, Declan backing them up to the bed, both of them falling into it. They moved into the middle of the bed, Jordan straddling Declan’s hips. He reached up, cupping her breasts, thumbs sliding over nipples, tugging at the piercings.

1 Childhood: A young Declan was a fidgeter and a wanderer. Rare was it that the boy sat still, confined to one area. Whether he knew the land or not, he was always up for exploring, seeing just what kind of adventures nature could offer. His parents were of the mindset that unless he was gone for hours which could mean he was hurt, he was smart enough to be on his own and responsible enough to not do anything too outlandish. To them, climbing trees, exploring patches of land, and generally running free was a key part to childhood. There was little crime and the like to worry about on rural Ireland and the same extended to rural Midwest America once they moved. The properties that were owned were far from any neighbors so they hardly had to be concerned with him bothering others. Occasionally, Declan bit off a little more than he could chew, getting stuck in a tree or a little turned around and lost in new areas. But it never deterred him. Those quiet moments where he was learning new land were some of his favorite.

12 School: Declan was an average student. School to him felt more like a chore than work on the farm. Being inside, stuck at a desk, force to learn things that didn't always interest him or had much use in his life was monotonous and boring at best. His mind constantly wandered and teachers noted that he was often stuck daydreaming. It didn't help that as a kid, he was constantly fidgeting and shifting, unable to sit still for more than a few seconds at a time. Book learning was a bit of a struggle since he is far more of a hands on learner, information sticking best when he is able to physically do something. That's not to say that he doesn't enjoy reading, because he certainly can devour novels if given the time and a proper setting. It was just never the best method of learning for him. He just always preferred being on the farm, learning new tasks, being around the animals, and helping his family. College wasn't an option for him, more self proclaimed than any real barrier. He knew he wanted to help run the family farm and eventually his own when the time came. It was only at his parents insistent that he took some business classes to better help manage the farm in the evolving world.

33 Hurt: Physical hurt is something that Declan has no issue dealing with. He is a born and raised country, farm boy. Emotional hurt? It is far more difficult. Declan is a pretty easy going guy and for the most part has had a pretty easy going life. It isn't something he has experienced a whole lot of throughout his life. Perhaps he is simply a really good judge of character. Or perhaps it's the fact that he is just around animals more than people, preferring their company. But when he does experience it, he tends to turn it inwards. Bottled up and kept to himself, he doesn't tend to let others know that he is hurting. What's the point? To him, there is nothing that can be done about it. It is his struggle to move through and get passed. Though he doesn't always do that well. He tends to drink a little more in those sort of times and isolate himself under the guise of work if the hurt is deep. It's only those that know him best that can tell when something is effecting him more than he is letting on. Even those individuals will have a hard time pulling it from him, if they even can at all.

45 Art: While Declan can appreciate art, it isn't something that he dedicates a lot of time or thought to. If anything, his preferred medium is photography. The few pieces he has in his home were either shot on his farm or around his hometown in Ireland. That is in his mudroom, a place that he gets to see it but doesn't end up staring at it too long. If he is asked, he doesn't miss Ireland but there is a little longing to see it once more. The others are various shots of animals and one of the sunset over a set of pastures for the horses. Paintings, sculptures, and the like won't be found in his home. Things are too easily broken and he prefers to spend what money he does have on other things.

48 Scars: No one can work on a farm as long as Declan has without a series of injuries and scars to prove the years of work. For the most part, his hands have been spared a lot of trauma though close inspect slows faint white lines littered across the skin. Cuts that went just a little too deep, a horn that caught the flesh of his palm, and the like. He does have several that are more obvious. There is one spanning the right side of his lower back, from where he got caught between equipment as a child, an injury severe enough it left him in the hospital for two weeks. He has a scar on his right cheek from catching a horn of a goat to the face as a teenager, just missing his eye. The final one is along the tricep of his left arm. It's about two inches long, more upraised than the others. He had a piece of metal stuck in his arm thanks to a car accident.

57 Ocean: Declan has seen the ocean. He flew from Ireland after all but has spent the majority of his life inland. There is little pull to any particularly large body of water, visiting or otherwise. He much prefers significantly smaller bodies of water, like rivers and lakes. Less chance of being on someone's menu. There are things he can not control or account for when it comes to the ocean, and for that reason, it never really fascinated him.
