Anyone who smugly tells you Hinduism is a religion of peace, the most tolerant of all religions, acts "holier than thou" is lying. Casteism exists. Casteism kills. Casteism produces rape victims. Casteism gives rise to some of the most heinous hate crimes. A Dalit woman is one of the most downtrodden and exploited person in this world.
Signed,
a very tired Dalit Hindu

probably controversial but I have to get if off my chest.
Feels like even in fanfiction, desi/indian girls are very underrated. It's always very white girl or black girl directed.
don’t be afraid to talk about these things babe!! it’s a rlly valid issue and it makes me upset at times too :(
i do respect that some ppl only look or feel a certain way, so i understand that they’d want to write for that specifically and i’m totally okay with it - for example, i’m glad black readers have more representation as fanfic has historically been centred around a blue-eyed, blonde-haired white reader. but sometimes i do think certain cultures lack representation and that is sort of saddening to see. i’ve personally always tried to remain as neutral as possible when it comes to writing the reader, just bc i want my work to be enjoyed by everyone (although yes it is catered more towards fem!reader) and i don’t feel the need to target a specific audience.
however, i might consider writing a piece or two where i specify the the reader as desi and make the character recognise it too, just to add some more rep into the community. i’ve tossed around the idea a bit but i’m only kind of scared bc while i am in touch with the culture, since i’ve been a kid i haven’t had as much opportunity to actually practise it - and so i wonder if i’m rlly the right choice to be writing stories so centric on desi culture if i haven’t lived it in years.
aside from this though, i wld recommend checking out @etfrin. they’re desi as well and they have a couple of desi!reader stories that i rlly enjoyed <3.

OP--turned off reblogs and it is bad tumblr etiquette to try reblog it again, but I am sharing this with two cents cause I have opinions + media criticism credentials + done archivist historian work + my current wip centres largely around this nuance and the nuance of inherent human unreliability. See here, and here. Meaningful citation I am gonna quote a lot… also this is just my opinion having read Das Kapital and worked at a unions museum and being a historical fiction writer + gothic horror writer.

when I say "apologize" for Robespierre I don't mean take away his humanity or complexity. The same applies to Marie Antoinette as much as I don't like at all what she stood for or her irl views, she was still a person, as well Napoleon I Bonaparte (the first 'Liberal' Dictator) are all people, not necessarily 'moral' or 'good' people, and we don't have to erase their humanity to talk about how they were not 'good.'
As competent as Louis XIV nicknamed, Louis the Great (Louis le Grand) or Sun King (le Roi Soleil) for his competence and ability to win France's colonial wars (a thing shockingly-- historians of all political leanings agree upon), could've spared France and all of its citizenry a lot of hurt if he just took away the ancien regimes social powers but left them their titles etc. TLDR: if France became a constitutional monarchy none of the French revolution would've happened.
Robespierre was by no means an "avenging angel" but it is important to keep in mind most of what he fought for was warranted and he was the victim of a posthumous smear campaign.
I cannot possibly reiterate enough times just how messed up the ancien regime was, yeah, not all nobility had power or wealth, like country nobility. But, unless you are the bourgeoise new money, titled and wealthy or court nobility. You along with the 99.9% (who is not the clergy or the second estate) might as well be getting by on scraps, Dangerous Liaisons (the book) touches on this conflict a lot.
Historical fiction is by nature fiction it shouldn't be moralized differently from any other fiction.
The French (and by extension European + American) empires never really 'died' they just rebranded themselves a lot.

The amount of people saying W India after banning Starbucks for showing a transgender person in their ads like homophobes and transphobes just keep proving they're nonsensical by calling it western propaganda when really heteronormativity is imperialistic propaganda

Mainland here is defined as you live in the same country as your ancestors i.e. India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc.
For information before you make a choice:
According to religious studies, ethnic religions are religions associated with a particular ethnicity. (ex. Judaism)
This is different from universal religions, which are religions that have universal applicability regardless of culture, race, sex, religion, or nationality. (ex. Christianity)
People can convert into ethnic religions
There is no consensus, but here are three conditions
The ethnic group and its beliefs system cannot be easily separated
The doctrine only pertains or is directed to that group
Ethnic religions are often closed to outsiders, limiting themselves to members born into the group
Please reblog/like to increase the number of votes! there is already so few of us on tumblr.

BL vs Queer Media Discourse Point #105
BL is not counter culture like Queer Media is seen in the West. It doesn't have to because we have a thing called multi-culturalism. Everyone is validated. Yes, there are legal and social problems. Thank you colonialism. But Queer Media in the West has had to set itself apart, to be different because the West has a 'One Thing' culture.
I imagine this is a cultural nuance many might miss.

Something something
being a poc in queer spaces is always interesting. I sometimes have people complimenting my ‘androgynous’ or ‘masc’ facial features or that it gives them gender envy.
My larger nose, big dark brows, prominent cheekbones and overcast browbone. These features in particular seem to get the most attention.
Not to mention the fact that I’m already perceived more masculine bc I have obvious, visibly thick hair on my limbs and face.
(…ethnic features?…)
But when I come back to poc spaces/friendgroups those features aren’t seen as inherently androgynous/masculine. Just normal.
I’m not exactly offended, I’m aware that the way I act and present myself also leads people to assume things.
But…idk. Feels off.
Thoughts?

anyone ever get the insane urge to start an arguement with someone for no reason? like the person will do something mildly irritating and I'll be like 'I'm a hater today bitch' and just start swearing at them
