Game is an interesting one to rewatch after S9 because you see the early pattern of Thursday receiving a blow on the family front and responding by taking it out on Morse. He doesn't even seem to want to, he just has no where else to put the bad feelings, and Morse is there because... Morse is always there.
It's also some of their most Married(TM) fighting, my god. Morse is hurt and offended and responds by falling back to talking to Thursday like he's his superior officer or something: "It's not my place to say." Thursday replies like a man who's sick of sleeping on the couch: "Don't come the old acid. It don't suit." (insane line of dialogue to use on a subordinate, I have never stopped thinking about since the first time I heard it months ago)
What I love about this fight is how real it felt; people are unfair and say shitty things they don't even really mean, hold grudges that make zero rational sense except they're too close and they're too upset and those feelings always end up going somewhere. Usually back in one's own face.

“This is so dumb,” you muttered aloud.
“Excuse me?” You turned around to see a handsome man, a man you only thought existed in celluloid and the pages of romance–erotic–novels.
“Eavesdrop much?” You shot back, making him grin.
“You spoke out loud to yourself, plus you said dumb,” he answered.
“I’m guessing you turned because it’s something you get called a lot?” You fired off, and he held his hands up in defence.
“Oh, ouch.”
“Fuck, I’m sorry, I just, ugh. I hate the forced merriment of New Year,” you admitted, and the stranger nodded.
“Well, what if I got you a drink to help drown the sorrows?” The man asked, and you shrugged.
“Or better, you got me one for calling me dumb?” He offered, and you pouted and nodded as he sat at the bar next to you.
“So, what's your name?” He asked.
“Y/N.”
“Pretty name for a pretty lady,” he responded, and you simply rolled your eyes.
“What about you?”
“Kim. Kim Mingyu,” he said, offering his hand to you, and you took it, shaking it lightly.
“You think you’re James Bond or something with that introduction?” You joked, and he shrugged.
“Possibly.”
“Well, like him, you have plenty of admirers,” you said, gesturing to a group of women and men who were ogling at him.
“To be fair, I don’t blame them,” you mumbled, the alcohol loosening your lips.
“Oh? I look good?” Mingyu asked.
“Oh, you know you’re hot, with this stupid red suit, and your stupid tits on display, and being tall and handsome,” you complained, making him grin.
“I heard stupid a lot,” Mingyu added.
“You’re incredibly hot, and I’m sure it makes anyone feel stupid,” you elaborated, making him nod as he took a sip of his drink.
“Well, you never told me why you’re here,” Mingyu said.
“Ugh, my friend dragged me here, but she found her catch of the night and ditched me,” you answered, and Mingyu frowned.
“That’s kind of shitty,” Mingyu noted, and you shrugged.
“To be fair, that was our ambitious plan, to look hot and get laid,” you admitted taking another sip of your drink.
“Well, the night is still young,” Mingyu observed.
“What about you? You’re hot, and I’m sure you have no problem getting someone, so why are you here?” You asked.
“Well. Honestly? I came here for a business thing, but then I saw you in this lovely dress, and I thought, ‘aww, we match,’ and I wanted to talk to you,” Mingyu replied, and you stared at him.
“You wanted to talk to me because I wore a dress the same colour as your suit?”
“Yep.”
“What if I wore a different colour?” You challenged.
“I’d still approach you. You’re beautiful,” Mingyu responded.
“What?” Mingyu asked when you smiled at him.
“You’re doing better than the other guy who hit on me,” you noted.
“Oh?”
“Yeah, he was giving me terrible pickup lines,” you explained.
“Oh, but some can be decent,” Mingyu defended.
“Try me.”
“Tell me, are you tired? Because you’ve been running through my mind all night.” Mingyu said, making you groan.
“Nope!”
“Do you have a map? ‘Cause I got lost in your eyes.”
“Hell, no. Mingyu, these are terrible,” you said, laughing as you swatted his arm, noting how buff he was and imagining what it’d feel like to hold those arms as he pounded into you.
“Well, I’m usually a lot more direct. I don’t like to waste time.”
“Oh? Do tell.”
Mingyu finished his drink and inched closer to you, his lips ghosting your ears, his hand finding yours as he traced it.
“Kitten, you told me about what your plan was for tonight. Want to make it come true?” Mingyu asked, and you bit your lip to bite back a moan.
“Oh!”
“Unless you prefer crappy pickup lines, in that case, hey girl, is that a phone in your back pocket? Because that ass is calling me,” Mingyu said, and you let out a deep sigh, grabbed your drink and finished it.
“Fine.”
“Fine, what?” Mingyu asked.
“You can help make my New Years' plan come true, and it’s only because you look sinfully good and not because any of your pickup lines worked,” you responded with a pout.
“Come on. We’re finding a room in this fancy bar,” Mingyu said, taking your hand and guiding you along with him. He moved smoothly, manoeuvring you out of the crowds and into the nearest storage room.
Mingyu locked the door behind you before turning to face you. Your back was pressed against a wall, and you were staring– well, undressing him with your eyes.
“Like what you see?” Mingyu asked, smirking.
“Shut up, you know you’re hot,” you muttered, making him laugh as he approached you.
“As are you, kitten. Do you know all I could see was red when you walked into this place tonight?” Mingyu teased.
“One more lame joke from you, and I’m leaving you with blue balls!” You threatened, making Mingyu grin.
“So you’ve been thinking about my balls?” Mingyu joked, making you sputter.
“Come here, kitten, let me taste how sweet that smart mouth is,” Mingyu said as his hands found your waist and pulled you in for a kiss. His soft lips met with yours and pulled you into a searing kiss. His lips moved against yours, and his grip around your waist tightened as his tongue swiped against your bottom lip, making you moan, allowing him to slip his tongue into your mouth.
You moaned further into the kiss, and Mingyu’s hands slid down to your hips, and he pulled away from your lips.
“Can I?” Mingyu asked, and you nodded impatiently, making him grin.
“Fuck, you didn’t wear panties?” Mingyu asked as he hiked up your red dress to your waist.
“I can’t be having panty lines now, can I?” You teased.
“Yeah, clearly,” Mingyu mumbled as he moved to kneel.
“What are you doing?” You asked, making Mingyu stand up straight and stare at you.
“I need to prep you.”
“Don’t be cocky. I’ll be fine,” you argued, making him smirk.
“Very apt choice of words, kitten,” Mingyu responded with a grin.
“Can you just fuck me?” You whined, and Mingyu grinned as he quickly moved to push his trousers down, pulling his hard length out, hissing when the cool air hit his erect member.
“Gladly, kitten,” Mingyu responded as his arms found your waist. He easily lifted you into his arms, pressed you into the wall, and guided his thick length into you.
“Fuck,” you gasped. You whimpered in both pain and pleasure; he was so big.
“Could have used prep, right?”
“Shut up and fuck me.”
“With pleasure.”
“Pun intended?” You asked, and Mingyu only grinned in response.
“Of course, kitten,” Mingyu answered before thrusting into you.
Mingyu’s movements were rough and quick, but his thrusts were precise, and you were falling apart on his cock, embarrassingly quickly.
“You sound so fucking wet. Can you hear yourself?” Mingyu asked, his lips ghosting your ear, his hot breath fanning your neck. You could only whimper in response.
“Imagine if you squirted on my cock. God, I’ll walk back in there with your cum all over my trousers,” Mingyu continued to spew absolute filth as he fucked you, making you moan at the possibility.
“Inside,” you moaned, and Mingyu swore he could have cum right then and there.
“Fuck, okay,” Mingyu breathed out as he took a second to collect himself and then continued to pound into your cunt.
“So good,” you moaned as you held onto his neck, possibly scratching him, as he thrust into you. One particularly hard thrust sent you ever the edge, making you cum, whimpering, and clenching around him. Mingyu came a few seconds after you and held you in his arms.
The two of you just stayed that way for a few seconds, and you were about to speak when you heard muffled cheering from outside. You looked at Mingyu, confused, who simply smiled at you.
“Happy New Year,” Mingyu said as he pressed a soft kiss against your lips, making you smile into the kiss.
“Well, I guess I started the year with a bang?” You joked, making Mingyu laugh.
“Who’s making the shitty jokes now?” Mingyu asked.
“It’s the sex. Your crappy humour is contagious,” you defended, and Mingyu only smiled.
“Uh, do you want to put me down?” You asked.
“Oh fuck, sorry!”
Mingyu gently placed you down on the floor, helping to pull your dress down as he pulled his trousers up.
“Pity, I didn’t soak your trousers,” you mumbled as you patted out the creases in your dress.
“I mean, there’s always a next time?” Mingyu said, his voice low and hopeful. You placed a hand on his toned bicep, making him turn to face you.
“Next time?”
“Well, how about you spend the first day of the new year with me?” Mingyu asked.
“Oh?” You teased. “What’s in it for me?”
“More orgasms, shitty jokes, and you’ll not want to spend it with anyone else,” Mingyu responded.
“Lead the way.”

Big Brother [3/3]
Three instances of big brother instincts within the chain. [Ao3 Link]
[Part 1: Wind] [Part 2: Twilight] [Part 3: Warriors]
The chain had been traveling aimlessly until a portal dumped them back in the middle of Hyrule field. Legend groans loudly at their surroundings. It feels like every time they decide to go to a town, a portal gets in their way.
"I think this is mine," Time says, a faint smile on his face.
Hyrule instantly perks up. "Does that mean we get to see Miss Malon again?"
Time grins at him. "If you don't mind the farm work."
Wind woops in response much to everyone's amusement.
"Welp, I guess it's settled," Wars says patting Time on the back "We're off to see the Missus again!"
Malon greets them all warmly. She spends time hugging each of them as she welcomes them home. She even introduces them to her father who's home this time. He's a portly old man with deep crows feet and laugh lines around his mouth. Much like Malon, he's able to instantly identify Twilight as a farmer.
Time tries to put them to work but quickly gets overruled by Malon and Talon. Wars won't admit it, but he's grateful for their intervention. Farm work is hard. Last time, he felt muscles he didn't even know he had ache!
Some of the group still insist on working, though. Twilight bullies his way into helping Malon clean the cow stables. Sky is more than happy to herd cuccos. And Four finds his way to the farrier.
Wars grins as Time shuffles around the house for a few minutes. He's completely changed out of his armor into stiffer clothes. "Heading out to help too?" Wars asks.
Time pauses in his search to look up at him. "Hm? Yeah. I'm gonna help Talon weed the crops."
Wars' grin widens. He glances around making sure the others aren't around. "You know," he starts off innocently. He tries not to laugh at the look Time gives him. "I'm glad I finally get to meet my little brother's old man. He must have a well of Patience greater than the expanses of time itself to deal with you."
"Just because I've told him about you doesn't mean he believes it."
"Malon believed you. Besides, it won't be too hard to convince him."
"You're going to be insufferable aren't you?" Time asks drily.
"Oh, absolutely," Wars replies without hesitation. "It's only fair."
The weary sigh of defeat he gets is music to his ears.
--
Wars sits on the porch as Wind, Hyrule, and Wild all run around in circles. He won't pretend to know what game they're playing, but it's nice to see them relax.
"Aren't there nine of you boys?"
He smiles at Talon as the old man takes a seat in the other chair. "Legend's inside taking a nap," he says. "He gets cranky when we're on the road for too long."
Talon laughs. "I'd've thought a Hero would be used to the road."
Wars startles. He knows Time tells Malon everything and she believes him, but he made it seem like Talon never did. It's jarring to hear him speak with the same candidness Malon does, but Wars is glad Time has people he can talk to. "Legend's been through more adventures than any of us," he explains. "All in just a handful of years... He deserves the rest."
"You boys are all so young," Talon says quietly.
Wind shrieks in delight when Hyrule picks him up and tosses him to Wild. Hyrule's accompanying laughter is carefree, and even Wild's smile is easier than usual.
Mask was bitter when he first stepped through the portal. It had nothing to do with the horrors of war. He was already haunted by pain and loss long before he ever set foot in Wars' era. He was so young; about the same age as Wind at the time. Yet the two are as different as night and day.
Sensing his mood, Talon starts to get up. "What d'you say to helping me get started on dinner, boy?"
Wars follows him with a quiet chuckle. "I know an order when I hear one, sir," he grins, "but fair warning: I'm a terrible cook."
He's surprised by how well Talon directs him around the kitchen. It's not the ease with which Time and Malon function with each other, or the ease Wild finds in any kitchen. But it's nice.
Time enters some time later and pauses at the sight of them. He raises a single eyebrow when Wars spots him.
Wars shrugs in response.
"What happened to letting the boys rest?" Time asks.
"I know a man in need of a distraction when I see one," Talon responds plainly. "See if you can't go help Malon and your boy. Dinner'll be done in an hour."
Time narrows his eyes at the two. Wars gives him a cheeky grin and Time scowls. They're not planning anything, but Time doesn't have to know that.
Talon chuckles at their exchange. "He keeps doing stuff like that, and I'll have to believe him."
"Oh?"
Talon claps him on the back. "I know what brothers tormenting each other looks like."
Wars laughs. "I need to get payback somehow."
"So you really knew him when he was a kid?"
"Only for about three years, but yes."
Talon hesitates for a moment. Wars is instantly on guard. "Has he always been vague about his answers?"
"What do you mean?" He asks carefully.
"Like if you ask him the things he's fought."
Wars instantly relaxes. "Lemme guess," he says drily. "The moon."
Talon nods with a tired look. "He won't explain it either."
"I know what you mean," he sighs. "When he first showed up in my world and demanded to fight, we asked him what the biggest thing he fought was and he said the moon. So we asked him what he meant. And guess what he does?"
Talon points up.
"Yes!" He raises his arm straight up and points. He does his best impression of Mask's scowling face, and with a patronizing voice he says, "I mean the moon! What's so hard to understand about that? If you don't get something as easy as that, why are you even in charge?"
Talon howls with laughter.
"So a few weeks ago I ask him the same thing. Y'know, to see if his answer's changed." Wars grins. "Hey Old Man, what's the biggest thing you ever fought?"
"The– oh ho," Talon wheezes between laughs. "The moon!"
"The moon!" Wars crows. "And he still refuses to elaborate!"
--
Dinner prep continues on for almost another hour. Wars knew that making food for so many people was a process, but he never realized how intensive it was. He's more than a little frayed by the time they finish. Talon pats him on the back approvingly, and the looks on the others faces is more than worth it.
He spends a little time watching the others as they settle down to eat. Time and Twilight sit on either side of Malon. Wind takes a seat next to Talon and makes easy conversation with the old man.
Wind really is a kid of many talents. He handles a grumpy Legend with the grace of a practiced brother while falling for his bait in equal measures. Yet he's able to hold long and easy conversations with adults and the elderly.
Wars is glad his adventures don't weigh him down. At least, he hopes they don't and Wind isn't just hiding the pain.
"You okay, Cap?" Twilight asks.
"Yeah. Just thinking of the little brother I had for a second."
Twilight and those closest to them grow quiet. "Sorry."
Wars raises an eyebrow before laughing loudly. "It's nothing like that!" He assures to all the sad faces. "It's just what he became to me. He was sent home when all was said and done. I do still miss him to this day, though," he sighs with a hand on his chest. He grins at the way Time snorts.
Wind lets out a loud sound of disappointment from across the table. "Does that mean I'll never get to meet him?"
Sometimes Wars forgets Wind spent a few weeks in his war. It was so late into the fighting, the war was practically over. That and he was far from the main fighting, usually just holding the far lines from any advances. It's just as important for holding the army together as the main lines, but fairly uneventful by the time Wind got there. He's still kicking himself for not making the time to go meet him properly back then.
"Count yourself lucky," Wars teases. "I love him, but he was an absolute menace."
Legend snorts. "Can't be that bad."
"Two words," he says making eye contact with Time. "Mask Duty."
Wind chokes on his juice. After he gets his coughing in control he all but shouts, "Mask was your little brother?!”
He's taken aback by the response. "Yeah?"
Wind scrambles to pull his sleeve back and hold up his forearm. "He bit me!"
Wars' jaw drops.
Talon and Hyrule lean over to get a better look.
Wars turns to Time who's studiously picking at his plate. He rubs a hand over his face with a groan. "Great Three, please have mercy on me. Is that why I was stuck on stable duty for almost two months?"
The others snicker at him.Time uses the noise to mutter a quiet, "No," but Wars knows that tone. It absolutely was his fault.
With a long dramatic sigh, Wars uses his melodramatic voice, as Mask liked to call it. He likes to call it his tired older brother voice. "Wind, on behalf of my little brother, I apologize for his horrible behavior. I ask you find it in your heart to forgive him."
Time glares at him but he has practice ignoring that particular look.
Twilight whistles lowly. "That sounds practiced. How often did he get in trouble?"
Wars resists the urge to smirk. "More times than I can count," he sighs sadly. "But I'm sure you'd all rather hear something else."
Just as expected, the table explodes into commotion. He sends a smirk Time's way and nearly cracks. Time's scowl has turned into a full on pout. Suddenly Wars finds himself look at Mask like he's been caught sneaking into the stables for the third time that week and not an adult ten years his senior with a wife.
"Okay, okay," Wars laughs. "I'll tell you a few stories."
He tells them of the first time Mask appeared on the field and the absolute mayhem it caused. A good portion of the soldiers had their attention split between halting the enemy Lieutenant and keeping the literal child safe. Not that Mask made it easier. He refused to be pulled off the field and even broke the hand of one of the soldiers trying to hold him back.
Wars tells them of the way his heart leapt into his throat when Mask rushed forward. A tiny child with a sword too big to properly carry rushing at a monster three times his size! Only for the little boy to swing the the massive claymore and slice the monster in two.
They still tried to bench Mask after that, of course. No one felt comfortable putting a child in the front lines despite his clear skill. That didn't matter to Mask, though.
It was a particularly hard battle and they were loosing. Impa was out for the count and Wars wasn't advancing fast enough. They would've lost—died—if Mask hadn't jumped in with all the unpredictability of a storm.
"You should have seen the way he yelled at us!" He wheezes. "I've never seen Impa or Artemis make faces like that before. He got his wish, though, and he was put in the main lines."
Malon giggles. "My, he seems like quite the spirited young man." Her eyes shine with mirth as Time's shoulders hike up in embarrassment.
"And very protective of the people around him," he nods. "For as much trouble as he caused, as much as he yelled and terrorized everyone, he loved the people around him."
Sky coos at the story. "He was probably so sweet in private."
Wars laughs. "Hardly! You just had to learn how he showed affection."
Hyrule winces. "Oh gosh, how bad?"
"So a lot of the soldiers didn't like we let a kid in the field right," he says, "so they started acting up. They'd question orders, disregard plans, speak I'll of her Majesty. Mask would absolutely terrorize the poor souls. I'd almost feel bad if they didn't deserve it."
"Wait, so how did Mask Duty start?" Wind asks.
"Mostly from that. Soldiers who questioned Artemis about Mask's presence ended up with the kid in their squads. That eventually evolved to a punishment for any serious offenses."
Wind cackles, surely remembering the fearful whispers of Mask Duty among the troops.
"Surely he wasn't a menace the whole time?" Sky winces.
"Well yeah, he was still a kid," Wars shrugs. "Show him something cool and he'll play with it for days. And he loved slight of hand tricks! He'd even pull on my scarf to get my attention. I'm not paying attention to him, he'll yank until I do. I'm spending too much time trying the perfect a strategy, and he'll yank on my scarf until I stop. I skip a meal, and he yanks until I get something to eat. He has a nightmare and instead of just waking me up, he drops all his weight on to my stomach."
He's completely lost in thought by this point. At the time, Mask had seemed to be constantly harassing him, but the years have given him perspective. Mask was just making sure they didn't crumble under the weight of responsibility.
"There was one particular battle that went horribly. Our forces were decimated. We barely escaped with our lives. Zelda completely closed herself off from everyone," he says quietly. "Not even Impa could get to her. Those were some dark days... But then one day laughter breaks through the silence. Mask had gotten Zelda to leave her tent. She was pale and her eyes red from crying, but she was playing in the mud with him."
He chuckles feeling the sudden tightness in his throat. "I think we'd all forgotten what joy was at that point. For as much trouble as he caused, Mask reminded us all there was still hope."
There's a tug on his scarf and Wars automatically looks down before remembering he has to look up now. Time's face is concerned as he looks him over. "You okay?"
Wars smiles. He pushes back the memories and ruffles Time's hair. "I'm fine, Sprite. Don't worry about it."
The table explodes into a mess of shouts and questions. Wars startles so bad he bangs his knee on the underside of the table.
"You bit me!" Wind accuses.
Time sputters, face pink with embarrassment. He looks to Wars for help.
Wars shrugs. "I told you you'd face the consequences of your actions one day." Time looks so panicked at the prospect that Wars caves immediately.
He helps Time field as many questions and accusations as he can. Eventually the others calm down. Though they spend the rest of the evening muttering amongst themselves and taking turns looking at Wind's bite mark.
Wars shakes his head as Twilight looks at the mark for the third time. "I can believe you bit him."
Time crosses his arms defensively. "He tried to take my Keaton mask."
"That's not an excuse to bite someone!"
Time looks away with a huff.
Wars laughs. He throws an arm around Time's neck and drags the man down at an uncomfortable angle. "Spirits, you've chilled out, but you're still the same little shit I knew," he says fondly. "I can't believe it took me so long to recognize you."
Time growls and yanks on his scarf in annoyance. Wars smirks at the feeling. It's the same way he used try to choke Wars when he was younger.
With practiced ease, and no longer having to hold back against a little kid, Wars wrestles Time to the floor. He grins triumphantly from where he sits on Time's back. "You're gonna have to try harder than that, Sprite," he teases. "Maybe I can give you some pointers."
Time deflates, seemingly accepting his fate.
"I can't believe he's a younger brother," Legend mutters with a frown.
Twilight stands next to him with a truly horrified expression.
Wind nods, seemingly unbothered by Twilight's unresponsiveness. "It almost makes too much sense."
"You're a terrible person," Time mutters.
Wars pats him on the head. "I know."

I would love to hear more about your Sampo headcanons!:)
Hello!!!!
So strictly speaking, I've said all my 'main' headcannons so what's left is just silly little thoughts that I feel like would or could happen in cannon and just are fun to think about. So here we go!
1. I think it would be really cute if at some point, after the seal of the underworld was lifted and Rivet Town is habitable once more, Natasha wants to return to the orphanage and, to raise money, they do a theatrical performance.
Sampo volunteers to help as a director and while he is fair, he bias he has for children is a lot more noticeable. Like, he'd be the Gordon Ramsay of theater. They did raise the funds though so all is forgiven. /j
2. You know Celine? The NPC that wants to become like another NPC so at that point she just stalks and copies her and asks for our help in a daily mission? Yeah, he accidently gave her the idea.
He would probably at some point advertise himself as a 'solver of any problem' and Celine would come to him asking for acting advice, saying she wants to be more like Tamila (the NPC she's trying to copy).
The advice he would give is learn how to pick up some of her mannerisms so she can get more 'in character', saying that's what he does a lot . And Celine does, and that's the start of her 'obsession'.
He doesn't know what's going on with Celine since after the initial 'session' he hasn't seen her and he didn't think about it much. He made money that's all that matters.
3. When Seele turned of age to drink, she immediately started challenging people to drinking contests because she has high metabolism. However, she got too cocky when she taunted Sampo, not knowing that man has spent a big portion of his life in the World's End tavern.
She lost soon after and never went drinking with Sampo again. Don't worry though, the day after Natasha scolded both. Sampo still makes fun of her anytime he sees her holding an alcoholic drink (Natasha won't admit she finds it entertaining).
4. Has started multiple betting pools with the Silvermane Guards (while pretending to be one). Gepard know of them (not that it's Sampo making them) and lets them do it since the bets (50-100 credits) aren't that big so nobody is losing much money and it keeps his soldiers entertained enough.
5. I just know this man makes snowmen in highly dangerous, far from the city, fragmentum filled areas. Like he's in the middle of nowhere, snow is all around him and fragmentum are ready to strike anything that moves and he crunches down, and makes snowmen in dumb poses, sometimes resembling people from Belobog.
Anytime that the Guards have to make an expedition for whatever reason and spot a snowman, the reaction they have is: "He's been here too????????!!!!! Why?????!!! What the fuck, how?!?!??!1/1?1/"
6. Babies, infants more specifically, immediately calm down and giggle in his arms but he himself is very awkward around them. It's probably because he's a Creation of Elation so he brings laugher easily, but he does not know how to interact with them. They are just so small! What if he accidently boops their nose too hard and it dents or something???????
Whenever Natasha has a difficult baby to deal with because they keep crying no matter what she calls Sampo. He always comes, thinking it's a favor she needs or more medicine, but no. It's a baby, here hold it.
7. Since he's not entirely human, he needs less food, water and sleep. That's great! But he neglects those needs more often than not because he forgets he needs to eat, drink and sleep.
8. He probably has slept in a cardboard box before, because he forgot that he does get tired and was about to pass out so he did it in the safest place (trash).
9. I do believe he's unvaccinated, not because he's anti-vax, but because, one, he's not fully human so his immune system is different and stronger, but also two, it requires a lot more touching that he's comfortable with (that is none) which is why he avoids doctors
Plus, he was spawned, he was never a child. So he never had the opportunity to get one and he learnt about their existence a little too late.
He once mentioned it to Gepard who freaked out and made a plan with Natasha to get Sampo to get his shots. It was messy.
10. I do believe he can shapeshift and I imagine that he once had a conversation with Gepard (after they had become closer) where he mentioned that in another language Geppie's name means cheetah. And because Gepard has never seen a cheetah, Sampo shapeshifted into one. Sampo spent the entire night shapeshifting into different animals and species to show the other. Gepard quickly noted that a fox suits Sampo a lot.

Y/N's time was limited. They got a letter from Epel saying that her grandmother is ill. She and her parents were starting to worry, so she was beginning to pack to leave. She went into the forest with a heavy heart and shared the news with them. Lilia, who looked at her with a sympathetic gaze, hugged her, to which she was surprised by the gesture and returned it with all her might.
"I wish for your grandmother's health to recover. Until then, see you again next time, Y/N."
"Thank you, Lilia-san." Y/N couldn't help but cry softly in his arms while Malleus patted her shoulder. His silent support encourages her so much.
"Y/N, we are always here for you. Don't forget that, Silver softly said, earning the bird on his shoulder to twit in unison.
"WE SHALL WAIT FOR YOUR RETURN NEXT SPRING." Y/N couldn't help but chuckle at his statement before mumbling.
"Next spring..."
~~~
"Grandmama, we're back. Are you alright? Are you in any discomfort?" Y/N asked the moment she sat down beside her. Her parents were outside talking to their doctor while she went in.
"Grandmama, don't worry, I won't leave. I will be here, okay?" she whispered as she watched her grandmother move her head slowly to look at her. The state of hers breaks her heart. She clasps her hand into hers as she hums, just like she did to her when she was young.
~~~
Y/N took over her parents business while they were away. She saw Epel, who was sitting outside the shop while he stared at the scenery in front of him. He was bored. She chuckled before joining him outside. He glanced at her for a moment before grumbling.
"Augh, it's so boring out here! Didn't you get tired doing all this stuff?"
"Haha... No, I don't even have a choice. Even if I did, what choices do I have?"
"Grrr, fair point."
Y/N stared at the sky with a troubled expression, watching birds fly and go before remembering she had to go into the mail station this afternoon. But alas, she was on duty. She looked at Epel, and nervousness was starting to creep in.
"Epel?"
"Yeah?"
"Would you mind sending this to the mail station?"
Y/N handed the letter to a curious epel, who stared at the letter.
"Is this the guy you met at what you called the valley something?"
"Nice try, it was actually Briar Valley."
"Ah yeah, that! So a letter for your boyfriend?"
"Absolutely Not!"
~~~
To an aspiring knight, Sebek
How are you faring? I'm sorry for the delay; I was kept busy for the most part. For a while, I took over my parents business and had to run some errands. I was constantly asked to look for my younger brother while worrying about my grandmother, who was still ill. It was a stressful week, to say the least.
But enough about that; how was your hand? You said it hurt for a while; have you applied the ointments that I gave you? Please let me know; I worry.
From Y/N
~~~
Sebek read the letter one more time with a soft smile written in his face before carefully tucking it into his breastplate without anyone noticing, but Silver noticed his gesture and smiled softly.
"Was it from Y/N?"
"WHA?! I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, Sebek voiced, attracting Lilia and Malleus nearby. Lilia grinned before teasing Sebek, who was denying everything.
"Don't be so shy, Sebek; it was wonderful talking to a Y/N, don't you think so?" Lilia teases while Silver nods before adding.
"She also makes delicious food every time she comes here."
"Agreed, especially when she brings an ice cream with different flavors." Malleus joined while Sebek was flustered.
"I... I AGREE WITH YOU, WAKA-SAMA, THE FOOD SHE BRINGS IS NOT SO BAD!"
"So you admit that it was delicious?" Silver questioned.
"Of COURSE NOT!"
"Then why did you agree if it wasn't delicious?"
"..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"Fufufu, Sebek, don't be so shy and admit it, but who was better at cooking? Was it me or Y/N?" the three men look at Lilia's direction with a troubled expression. They soon both look at Sebek, who was under pressure with Lilia's question.
"HUMAN'S COOKING COULDN'T EVEN COMPARE TO YOUR SPECIAL DISHES LILIA-SAMA! WHILE HER COOKING WAS DELICIOUS NOTHING COULD COMPARE YOUR UNIQUE INGREDIENTS! "
"..."
"..."
"..."
"He finally admit it."
~~~
Y/N was in trouble. Her dilemma last year was beginning to root again when, in a mere month, it was spring again. Her parents didn't seem keen on going; they started to fight a lot more than before while she cradled her brother in her room while they fought. After managing some business, checking up on her grandmother, and watching her younger brother, it really took a toll on her. She was really looking forward to going back to the Briar Valley, but that was on the brink of bleakness.
With a heavy heart, she wrote down the letter with care. She sent it the next day while the sky was cloudy.
~~~
Silver watches as Sebek reads the recent letter with furrowed eyebrows.
"What does it say?"
"She couldn't make it back next month."
"Ah..."
They were silent. "Will you make a response?"
"After our training! I can't afford to skip my time to serve Waka-sama!"
"Sebek! Won't you make a response?"
Silver stared at him. He watched how his expression changed with different emotions before sighing.
"I Don't know."
"Why?"
"I Don't know," he repeated. He crossed his arms and stared at the ground while Silver waited for his response. Sebek pursed his lips before replying.
"I suppose it was because I don't know how to respond." For once, Sebek's voice was quiet. Silver patted his shoulder, offering him comfort.
"She would be back next spring, would she not?"
"She would."
"Then let's wait for her again, just like last year. Won't you?"
"Hrrgh, I supposed."
~~~
Months have gone by again, and Y/N this time saved her money in case her parents didn't plan on going. She was fourteen and about to be fifteen in a few months. Her grandmother was doing fine after a year of treatment. She stood by her side, watching her progress, and relief washed over her when she was finally released.
She helped her grandmother the best she could while watching over her younger brother. Her grandmother had an unknowingly serious look on her face as she stared at her granddaughter.
"Child, shouldn't you be at the Briar Valley this week?" Y/N stopped in her tracks as she stared at her grandmother with a wide expression on her face.
"Ah, I was planning to... But I would come back very quickly after a few days," She assures, but her grandmother only raises her eyebrows at her answer.
"You don't have to worry about us here, go have fun being at your youth, I will handle everything, don't worry about this old lady here, I will look after my youngest grandchild. Please, Y/N, my beautiful granddaughter." Her grandmama took her hands as she spoke softly while laying her forehead against hers, Y/N couldn't help but pause as she struggled to gulp down her sadness.
"Go, they are waiting for you."
Her grandmother whispered with a smile she knew so well. It was her expression when she was at her happiest, content, and complete. Y/N nodded, closing her eyes.
"Thank you, Grandmama."
~~~
Y/N knocked on the door, but no one answered. She was confused as to why it was quiet around here. She should have known, on the way here, it was dead silence. The animals that were scattered were nowhere to be seen. Sebek and Silver, who were often around at this time, were not present. With a downcast expression, she was about to go back when she recognized the two birds flying in her direction. They flap at her with glee. Y/N brushed her fingers against their feathers, asking where the two were. The birds looked at each other before flapping their wings. She had a troubled look on her face as she didn't understand before she felt a nudging on the back of her head.
She craned her neck and saw a horse neighing behind her. The birds flew to the horse's head before tweeting loudly. Y/N took it as a sign to sit on the horse's back before making its way somewhere else. She was nervious, she didn't know which direction it was heading from, but she trusted it was where the two were. Her surroundings changed into an opening field, stopping only when a mansion came into view. She got off the horse and caressed the birds before walking into the mansion door. She paused, debating whether to knock or not. But she knew she couldn't come back for nothing, so with little determination, she knocked on the door.
She waited. But no one seems to answer. Sighing, she tried again with a little force before moments passed and it opened. Behind the door, she was greeted by a tall man who had the same characteristics as Sebek. This would be Sebek if he got older.
Y/N was speechless for a while before asking. "Ah... Is Sebek here?"
The man watches her with curiosity in his eyes. Y/N grew nervous at his intense eyes before they flashed with recognition.
"You must be Y/N am I right, young lady?"
She nodded in confirmation. The man opened the door, letting her walk in before closing it behind her. Y/N took in her surroundings and stared at the large painting hanging on the wall. It was Sebek with his whole family. This must have been made when he was just a boy back then.
"Y/N?" a familiar voice called out.
"Silver?" Y/N couldn't help but feel relief as she caught sight of Silver, who had droopy eyes from all of his sleepiness. Y/N chuckled whilst thinking he had not change a bit.
"Welcome back, I'm sorry I didn't get your letter."
"Oh no, I didn't send it recently. It was supposed to be a surprise, but it got backfired." She sheepishly rubbed her neck while looking around before turning to the tall man and bowing. Mumbling her thank you before he nodded. He turned to Silver and expected him to see their guest, to which he expressed his gratitude. Y/N watches their interaction before the tall man leaves. Silver noticed her fascination in her surroundings but her eyes tells a different story. He shake his head his head knowingly as he waited for her question.
"Ah, is Sebek here?" she asked as she lifted her head slightly to look at him.
"Sebek is at the library for a moment; would you wish for me to accompany you there?"
"No need, I could go there myself." she refused. Silver then pointed the hallway on his left causing Y/N eyes to follow.
"Straight up ahead before turning left, there is a big door, one that is very different from the smaller ones you would pass by, that is the library." he instructed, watching how different emotions showed in her eyes before she smiled.
"Thank you so much, Silver."
"No, thank you Y/N for coming, it was the least I could do."
~~~
She opened the door knob, making a creaking sound while she pushed it inside. She breathed in the warm, dusty, woody air from the inside and went in.
"Sebek?" She called, but no one answered. She closed the door behind her, slowly walking around as she took in the number of significant books on the shelves. Her hands moved to the book spine, sliding her eyes as she read the titles. At the end of the books, she noticed a figure lying in the window nook. There he was. Sebek had a soft expression on his face, it was very different when he was awake. The book was resting on his chest while he inhaled and exhaled softly as the light illuminated his figure. She could hear her heartbeat pounding in her chest, and she couldn't take her eyes off him.
He changed. He was no longer the boy she met two years ago. His face also changed to a mature one, his physique was much more bulkier than before, and she could tell he was taller than her now. She slowly and carefully walked towards him, careful not to wake him up as she did. When she was at his side, she carefully pulled the book from his chest and was about to place it on the table near him when a hand shot up and held her wrist. Her eyes fluttered to Sebek quickly thinking he was awake, but he wasn't. He was the same as before, but his grip said otherwise. 'Is this one of his reflexes? She wondered. But she tried her luck and whispered his name, but his soft snore indicated he was still asleep. Y/N chuckled with a soft expression on her face. Before wiggling her wrist from his hold but to no avail.
She sigh and resigned into her fate while got comfortable at the chair near the window nook. His eyebrow furrowed as he mumbled incoherently. Y/N watches his form before humming a tune as she caressed his temple. She moved her head closer to his, her hair curtains the side of his face as she mumbles softly.
"Sleep tight my dear knight."
How's v name dropping jk any different than jk name dropping jimin? If I look at it from a non shipping pov.
I believe this to be a very fair question.
You asked me not to talk like a shipper so I will try not to bring up the fact that Jimin is his boyfriend so JK can talk about him as much as he wants 😳
Okay anon. When JK goes live, it's clearly with purpose. His lives are what, a minimum of 1 hour? He comes in, talks about himself a bit. Flirts with Army, laughs, answers a few questions then ends up singing at some point. When he mentions Jimin it's again, with purpose. He's talking about his music, he's reacting to his songs or his shows. He's not saying "Jimin" just for the sake of it. He actually has a reason for doing so. It's with context. And alot of it.
JK is not name dropping Jimin. He's talking about Jimin.
And most importantly he does other things too. I think that's the major difference here. Oh and he talks about other members too!
When we come to V, this man did a 2 minute live. He came live for 2 minutes! I mean, it's basically the norm now. We expect it atp. But 2 minutes? I guess to each their own but damn. I don't recall what the last live was about but 2 minutes is not even enough to tell us what he had for breakfast and if or not he slept okay.
When V comes online his fans are expecting to spend time with him, get updates on him, what he's been up to. U know? I remember V once came live, talked about how he was with JK unprompted, and then dipped. He didn't even care to clarify it was during an online game, thus leaving tkkrs causing a ruckus over JK being at V's. Which there is nothing wrong with JK being at V's, but I have an issue with V always telling Taekook stories halfway. He never gives the whole picture. It's a bad habit. And I know he knows that because he doesn't do it when JK is around.
That's suspicious.
And then anon, V doesn't mention other members. V doesn't do anything else. So yeah, V, name drops JK. He does. He doesn't talk about JK. He name drops. His lives as short as they may be, he still manages to say the word "Jungkookah." And its gonna be a single sentence. Almost like as long as the name has been said, there doesn't need to be more. U get?
I am personally immune to his behaviour, but I see why it looks shady to others. He has 5 other members he could talk about. Yet he doesn't. Not even to mention their name, once. Jin is a video game geek. Do u really want to tell me he doesn't play online games with V? V hangs out with Jimin and Jhope too so JK is clearly not the only one he's seeing but why is he the only one he mentions? 🤔
I won't pretend to know his reasons. I won't even speculate because I don't care. But I can admit it's... strange. It's just strange, anon. Maybe if it had purpose, it would make sense. But as it stands, it doesn't. It just doesn't. I'm sorry.
alone, desire, midnight, secret
alabastrine, ebonyeyes, bananaberry, coereba, macaron (dont need to do all if you dont want!)
under the cut..it got long again :) i wrote a whole essay, this is probably going to take you like twenty minutes to read im so sorry
alone ; Bananaberry - She's used to being alone, and often needs alone time to cool down, not often getting lonely. If she feels like she is, she seeks out Coereba [or, when she didn't have Reba, she would go to May, and May would go to her as well] She's not very different when she's alone, other than "trying" a little less in her presentation of self. Coereba - They get very withdrawn when they're lonely, like isolating themself is going to make it any better. Bananaberry often fails to notice this, so they try and tell her when they can. Reba knows she won't judge them, but it's hard to shake years of being disregarded by their family. They did feel alone for a lot of their life, as their family mostly ignored them and their needs. They're the same when they're alone. Alabastrine - Also goes to her partner when she feels lonely, which isn't very often. When she didn't have one she'd head to the bar. A lot of her childhood was spent entirely alone, emotionally if not fully physically alone, so she has a hard time even recognising the feeling for what it is. He's a lot more relaxed when not around other most other dragons, and tends to let himself go even more than he does when he drinks. Ebonyeyes - Oh boy, yeah. She's been alone physically and emotionally more times than she could count. Her upbringing on the NightWing island had her left out quite a bit, and she never really minded it. She's never been clingy to one person, so Ebony tends to just hang out in the nearest village until she's feeling better. She's much calmer when she's alone, as it gives her time to destress :) Macaron - They surround themself with other dragons, and have never really felt monumentally lonely besides a few occasions when they felt left out- being a needy little dragonet at the time. They're really bad at dealing with it, and cry into pillows whenever it happens. [They also cry into pillows for different reasons] Macaron's a lot less bubbly when they're without others, dropping their leader facade and just kind of...letting themself lose their mind a little. desire ; Bananaberry - She wants to feel whole :) she never really has, even with Reba there's something missing in herself. She doesn't really express that feeling very much with anyone, but May has a suspicion [he feels the same way sometimes]. I'm not sure what she'd do to achieve that, since it's not exactly a material goal. Coereba - Oh, how they won't admit it to anyone, but they want to be human again. Or at least to forget they were ever human. They'd never tell Bananaberry on account of not wanting to hurt her feelings, even though she wouldn't be hurt. They'd do a lot of things to turn themself back; mass murder is probably the cap where they'd stop. Alabastrine - Burning desire to rule, as much as he tells himself it's desire to keep his tribe and mother safe from his grandmother. As you can probably conclude...not very open. Won't even admit it to himself. He's already leading a revolution against the queen, so I'd say he'd go pretty far. Ebonyeyes - She desperately wants to be appreciated. Even in her role as a teacher, she never felt like anyone truly wanted or needed her skills. She's quiet about it, like most of her other emotions, but sometimes it slips out in the way she talks if you know her well. I don't think she would be very up to doing anything that involved hurting others, but everything else is fair game. Macaron - All they want is for their tribe, most especially their family, to be free. They're very open with advocating about this- er, not so much around the HiveWings, but otherwise very much! They'd kill for it, will and have, depending on where they are in their timeline. 1/2 because it got. too long
guess who
back with the pjo x prsk
i only managed to figure out An and Haruka + beginnings of Tsukasa and Ena, so uhhh
STALLING TIME, NO VBS TODAY
Prima Vista (1/2)
Tumblr media
I was thinking which ones I should start with to be fair. I have powers for all of Prima, but I didn't knoe whether to split them for camps, or do mixed pairs or whether to start with Hayato/Kaii or Ranmaru/Ikuo, but I decided for Hayato and Kaii in the end, since you've seen them before in the pjo au posts
Hayato
He was the last one to be admitted to the camp, out of everyone (including the normal characters), but he's known there was "something wrong" with him already. Only after learning about demigods, he realized all those things he's seen over the years are simply because of his godparent, which was obvious to him that it was Apollo. He has no control over his powers and that gives him trouble most of the time.
His side power is that art thing - what's that mean is basically that he can pick up any art form and have it easy. Of course he won't be perfect in anything, unless he practices, but he will have an easier time learning. If you had read the Prima stories earlier, you know that Hayato knows how to play multiple instruments, violin being his most beloved.
His main power is connected to his dreams and that is the ability to see into the future in dreams. Now, it's actually kind of natural for demigods to sometimes have visions inside dreams, but the issue with Hayato is that he sees them every night and they show how the next day will play out. It won't show anything directly, instead it will look like a scene from an anime or a game (personally imagining it like Genshin gameplay and cutscenes). Nothing is fully clear in those dreams - he can't see how he looks like, because a mirror never appears. The people inside the dream only share some features with the real people in his life. The actions are very vivid and at times blurry or simply too fast. It's never clear, so Hayato has to decipher what could possibly happen, but since fate is unpredictable, his judgments end up being partially or completely wrong.
He avoids everything to do with the future-seeing powers - tries not to get claimed by Apollo, wants to escape the fate that he sees and at times he tries going days without sleeping (which actually ends up being worse, because then he sees prophetic hallucinations instead of dreams. He will still not sleep.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(i swear he is so fun to draw, his hair is so fucking satisfying to draw, so simple yet fun)
Oh yeah. He has never told anyone he knows his godparent. Toya is blissfully unaware that suddenly his new classmate is also his half-brother.
Hayato also hid himself away from the camp when he saw a claim sign in his dream, fearing it would be him. It was Kaii's Neptunus claim and Kaii was pretty bummed out that Hayato was nowhere to be seen at that time. Once Hayato heard though, he was very relieved (that it wasn't him) and tried to make it up to him.
Speaking of Kaii
I don't know which Poseidon/Neptunus quirks I vould give him to not make him too OP. As one of the big three, he probably should have something more, but on the other hand - manipulating the water tension is already OP in itself. It all actually comes down to how he uses it and how creative he gets to be with the ideas. At first he finds this unnecessary, since he wasn't able to control it freely, but once he actually started training, he started thinking differently. Here are a few ideas I have for how he could be using his powers:
Tumblr media
The most useful one is definitely the ones relating to mobility. He definitely had a LOT of troubles trying to walk on water, because it was as slippery as ice, due to the surface not having traction. In the end he came up with the idea to slide/skate on it like ice and yep, that sure fixed it.
The "walking on rain" idea came from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, specifically Steel Ball Run. The Stand Catch The Rainbow had the stand user standing on raindrops. I am pretty confident that with some natural water bending and Kaii's tension manipulation, he could freely run on raindrops, but it would most likely be difficult and require TONS of training.
If we're talking about other inspirations for the powers, I like to think that water not breaking tension on him is so funny... He's like a duck if he wants to stay dry... 🦆
As for the not letting enemies outside of the depths, it was inspired by that one twitter comment being like "What if the water just doesn't let you out one day"
I mean, fuck, what IF it doesn't let you out
It would definitely be brutal coming from Kaii, since he can just not let the water break tension around him like if he was in a bubble, but... Well, he is capable of drowning something in self defense. He's pretty desensitized to most physical things and if it's against a monster, he would do it no questions asked. If it was against another (enemy) demigod and he'd let them stay down there for a bit too long... Yeah, he'd have to process this with himself. You can expect him using the water trap very sparringly, last resort even.
If you have any MORE ideas for how he can use these powers... You can share ofc 👀
(bringing this gem back)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, one more relating to Ichika and Kaii - in the Prima canon I did make them cousins. Kaii's mom is one of Ichika's parents older sister. I have no clue which one, so... If someone claims a godparent for her, they would still work out as cousins.
I guess even if they ended up not being related in the end, their relationship would still stay as cousins, just... different blood.
As an additional fun fact, in my Prima add-in, Ichika and Kaii entered the camp together. Both of them found it a bit crazy that the other cousin also had the same issues with dyslexia and the "demigod specific" type of neurodivergency and it was incredibly awkward. They have each other's backs tho.
As a bonus: The Big Three of each camp
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Getting sneak peaks for others early woa woa woa
although the Nene/Saki designs might change according to their powers when I do in fact figure them out
you cant tell me Tsukasa wouldnt wear the wreath all the time btw, he got it fair and square and he WILL wear it ‼️‼️
tng update time!! its been so long. sunday we did "reunion" and last night we did "future imperfect" and "final mission."
reunion: WORF HAS A BABY???
ok. tbh. this episode was wack. i guess i just don't get the point of k'ehleyr...she hates klingons. so she's like, "my son, who is 3/4 klingons, will not be raised with any of the klingon ways! fuck klingons! i hate them! however i do want worf who LOVES the klingon ways to claim him, and then also raise him after i have died. and i'm gonna get really mad at him and call him a dumb klingon if he doesn't do it"
AND THEN WORF IS LIKE. "my son...he should be raised with the klingon ways...but i can't claim him cuz i'm excommunicated and if people know he's my kid he won't be able to live among klingons ever again. the only solution is to send him to live with my HUMAN PARENTS who 1. can't teach him the klingon ways 2. will definitely alert anyone with half a brain that he's my kid"
like? is this not the worst of both worlds? if worf is gonna claim him (which he kinda does by sending him to live with his grandparents) and he can't live among klingons the least worf could do is raise him on the starship with himself, a klingon, and the other kids. who admittedly should not be on the starship bc no child should be on a starship. but like how many klingons are there on ma and pa kent's farm. zero. how many are there on the enterprise. one. could be two but ???
like whats the point of giving him a son if we don't see this kid once or twice a season...i just don't get it. like is he the cutest little klingon that ever lived? yes, OBVIOUSLY. would worf's parents do just as good of a job with him as they did with worf? of COURSE. but the rest of it is a huge mess of logical problems. rip
future imperfect: RIKER HAS A BABY???
no look this one was so fun. old riker. amnesiac riker. riker trying to get out of the lab rat maze. so fun AND i called the plot twist (that the romulans were fucking with him) early.
thrilling that they predicted captain picard would be captain for 7 years when tng was 7 seasons. ik there are movies after but what a lucky guess. also picard looks weird with facial hair. his chin should stay bald too to uphold his priceless cueball image
i'll admit the ending to this episode was weird as hell and also a bit abrupt but like. who cares. a good time is a good time
final mission: AW. BABY BOY...he's really leaving...i'm gonna miss him so much :(
the b plot of this one was so stupid. i could figure out about 6000 different ways to make their duties easier. it took them so long just to get to the asteroid belt and then they were in it for 5 seconds. poor beverly.
the a plot of this was only a little less stupid, to be fair. mr grumpy miner made such a big deal about that alcohol and then he never got the DTs. picard told wesley to stand up to him and then wesley never got to do it. also, wesley's last episode should have had him have more time with his MOM? cmon
my favorite bit was when picard laid down the arrow to warn the search party of the direction they were going and then they all walked in a completely different direction. and at the end beverly is like we found your arrow! girl. come on now
anyway, tonight we do "the loss" and "data's day"
Sibling Rivalry - Mark of the Assassin
A further survey of the approval-specific dialogue in DA2 which started here, this time from MotA DLC. There's not a lot here - a few ambient lines and banters - but there's not much sibling content in MotA in general. I might be wrong but I think the ambient lines that play when clicking on Bethany or Carver might be the only approval-specific lines that play in Act 1 in the entire game.
Ambients - Mark of the Assassin (Bethany)
[friendly, act 2-3]
Bethany: I never expected to meet you here, but I suppose it's a nice surprise.
[friendly, act 1]
Bethany: One of these days, we'll be the ones with a mansion on a hill.
[rival]
Bethany: Why are we exposing ourselves like this?
Banter - Mark of the Assassin (Warden Bethany)
Hawke: Happy to be out of the Deep Roads for a while?
Bethany: Not especially.
Bethany: I'm sure it's nice for you. These are your kind of people.
[friendly]
Bethany: No, that wasn't fair. I'm… I'm sorry. That was about me.
Hawke: I know. And it wasn't fair for you either.
[rival]
Bethany: I'm sorry, I didn't mean anything by that. Not really.
Blue Hawke: I doubt that.
Purple Hawke: Oh, sure.
Red Hawke: Right.
Ambients - Mark of the Assassin (Carver)
[friendly, act 2-3]
Carver: Running around with you has really made me realize how much I miss it.
[friendly, act 1]
Carver: All this running around together, it hasn't been so bad…
[rival, act 2-3]
Carver: Funny how we ran into each other here. You turn up in the oddest places.
[rival, act 1]
Carver: Not one person here has spoken to me. It's like I'm your squire.
Banter - Mark of the Assassin (Warden/Templar Carver)
Tallis: So you're Hawke's brother?
[friendly]
Carver: We still admit that, on occasion.
Tallis: But you're on good terms.
Carver: This second? I suppose so. The day's young, though.
Blue Hawke: We're fine. Just… different.
Purple Hawke: He'll bugger it up yet.
Red Hawke: It won't last.
[rival]
Carver: That is a common accusation.
Tallis: Strained, then?
Carver: We're on different paths.
Blue Hawke: Bit of an understatement.
Purple Hawke: With a lot of swearing, usually.
Red Hawke: He's an ass.
Banter - Mark of the Assassin (Warden Carver)
[friendly]
Carver: So, still playing at these little adventures.
Carver: You never did know when to put away your toys.
Blue Hawke: So "grow up" is what my little brother is saying.
Carver: Seems odd, doesn't it?
Purple Hawke: But they're such fun! And you're so old now.
Carver: Seems odd, doesn't it?
Red Hawke: And you never knew when to shut up.
Carver: Harsh, but fair.
Carver: Have your fun. But it has to end someday. Everything does.
---
[rival]
Carver: So, still playing at these little adventures.
Carver: Seems like you could be doing something bigger with our name.
[act 2]
Blue Hawke: You should come see the estate before you judge.
Purple Hawke: Do you have an estate? I have an estate.
Red Hawke: Seems like sour grapes.
Carver: Right. The family fortune. And yet you're still chasing stuff like this.
Carver: Sounds like it's not all you thought it was, Sister. / Sounds like it's ringing hollow, Brother.
[act 3]
Blue Hawke: The mantle of Champion sits pretty comfortably.
Purple Hawke: Um, hello: Champion.
Red Hawke: I'm the Champion. What do you want?
Carver: Right. I know how you got the title. How often do you think that's going to happen?
Carver: Everything ends. Someday.
Banter - Mark of the Assassin (Templar Carver)
[friendly]
Carver: Try not to cause too much trouble, will you? I have to uphold the tenets of the order now.
Blue/Purple Hawke: Am I… compatible with those tenets?
Red Hawke: Should I be worried, templar?
Carver: Don't you remember how we scrambled to buy influence? It worked, obviously.
[act 2]
Carver: No one is touching Hawke of Hightown. Not without a lot of weight behind them.
[act 3]
Carver: No one is touching the Champion. Not over some Orlesian holiday.
---
[rival]
Carver: Try not to cause too much trouble, will you? I have to uphold the tenets of the order now.
Blue Hawke: I don't think I'm cut out to follow your tenets.
Purple Hawke: Well, you know where you can "uphold" them.
Red Hawke: I'll try and work in some mage-oppression too.
Carver: Right. You and I can keep it civil until you're done… whatever it is you think you're doing.
Then there’s the Wilbur Niki relationship. In the cafeteria part, there are two things that stand out to me. 1. Niki stopping to pray. Now I have not gone back and checked how Wilbur prays. But I am pretty sure Clara doesn’t talk to him. Even in inner monologue, there has never been a mention of Clara talking to him. Though that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s not talking. It just mean that if she does, Wilbur can’t hear it. He can still feel her presence though. And he can very much feel Kristin’s. Which mean he can tell how it affects Niki.
It looks a lot like Niki starts her prayer and Kristin actually answers. That’s probably a lot easier to do when you have a small intimate group of worshippers. But you would expect Clara to talk to her vessel Instead of online sending him vague visions. Furthermore. Aimsey also mentions Keistin talking to them. That means it’s not just a Phil thing. There’s no special requirement. She talks to all the Deathlings. The difference is very interesting.
It’s also interesting that Wilbur continuous to feel Kristin’s graze on him but still refuses to acknowledge it. He refuses to react, but he refuses to meet her graze too. It’s like he”a scared of her. Of scared of the fact that he can feel it. Makes me wonder with would happen if he ever accepts that he can feel it and meets her graze. Would he feel more of a connection? Would she be able to talk to him?
Then the second thing is kind of throughout the entire chapter. It’s touch. Niki offers her arm to Wilbur instead of taking it like she did last time. She knows he needs or likes touch as comfort. Maybe Tommy told her. Maybe it’s very obvious from the way Wilbur acts. Either way, she offers and he takes it. And it actually works to calm him down. And they continue to touch and be close throughout the rest of the chapter. Hell, they even fall asleep next to each other, both of them. They feel comfortable end safe around each other. Can’t wait for you to rip that away against. Thanks, Tommy.
(2/2)
-🌲
nope clara doesn't talk to him!! to be fair, kristin doesn't exactly 'talk' to the deathlings either. at least not with words. but she can send feelings and sensations to the deathlings who pray to her, and they can interpret those sensations however they want. so while kristin didn't straight up speak to niki, she sent her some reassuring emotions and sensations which helped comfort niki quite a bit.
the exception to this is phil. phil claims to have heard kristin's voice before, but it's never full sentences. just fragments of phrases or single words here and there.
clara doesn't send anything to wilbur though. not words, not emotions, not sensations. just the visions.
wilbur's refusal to meet kristin's gaze is definitely rooted in his own fear. even if he won't admit it, he's terrified of that very question you posed. WOULD he be able to hear her? would he feel her? because if he felt kristin when he can't even feel clara, what the hell would that mean for his position as pythia? where would that leave him?
the rainduo was so soft this chapter arghhhh i love them so much. thanks tommy for ruining it.
Also heres what his Aztec death whistle sounds like: https://youtu.be/pIAoWAtdtac
( More info coming soon )
Name: rosey julie
Age: 22
Height: 14ft
Gender: female
Species: fox and deer
Julie has a death whistle to let you know you have no escape Julie is death https://youtu.be/AmLzaVX4T1c
Actually her whole personality is based on death from puss in boots
Julie is a cunning and sinister individual whose sole purpose is to take the souls of the deceased. Although she waits in the shadows for people to die naturally, if someone angers or offends her enough, she will physically manifest in order to attempt to take their life by force.
Death is sadistic and thrill-seeking, as she takes a degree of pride and pleasure in her job, and openly admits that he enjoys striking fear into her victims. This is shown by the pleasure she took in scaring and provoking y/n with her taunts, eerie whistling, and her very presence, and how she got especially excited when she managed to draw blood on y/n julie also admits to having a dislike of cats and dogs and the fact that they all have nine lives, finding the very idea to be "absurd".
Despite Julies sadistic and sinister nature, she does have a sense of honor and nobility, as her main reason for pursuing in the first place was to punish the cat for arrogantly squandering their eight lives with reckless abandon, concluding from this that it would be best to kill y/n before they wasted their final life. Not to mention y/n often declared that they "laughed in the face of death", therefore Death was insulted and disrespected by y/n by her words as well as her deeds in wasting their lives. This indicates that despite representing the end of mortal life, Julie holds life sacred and is disgusted by those who don't treat their own lives with true appreciation or care. She also has a sense of fair play, as she always gives y/n the chance to fight back whenever they encountered each other, even giving y/n old sword back to them for their final duel in the nowhere . This suggests Julie prefers to give fair fights for those who challenge her, but her comments about how much he would enjoy taking y/n out from the realm of the living seems to indicate that she may have brought them their sword back just for sport, finding it more entertaining to seek a fight rather than just surrender.
When y/n finally stops running from her and instead fights her while promising to respect their final life with their friends, Julie, although initially enraged that y/n has changed and thus "ruined her hunt", quickly calms down and recognizes that killing them now would be pointless and unethical. Thus, Julie honorably decides to let y/n live out their final life, respectfully biding the cat/dog to live their last life well. However, she does warn y/n that they will meet again eventually when y/n life finally comes to a permanent end. This all but proves that Julie isn't unbeatable, even if he is unavoidable in the long run.
Overall, Julie is best described as a harsh, but fair and reasonable individual who takes her job seriously and enjoys a thrilling challenge, but doesn't kill just for the sake of doing so and is able to respect and spare those who prove her wrong.
Powers: Superhuman Speed/Superhuman Reflexes
Superhuman Durability Sickle Proficiency Omnipresence Immortality Soul Reading Fire Manipulation Intimidation Weapon's Transmutation
Julies quotes: "I do love the smell of fear. [sniffs] It’s intoxicating."
What’s the matter? Lives flashing before your eyes-
Go ahead, run for it. Makes it more fun for me.
That SWSH post blew my mind! You know how people assumed Leon was a villain? Imagine that as a red herring, where people were skeptical about Leon and spread malicious rumors about him. When you meet him, he's so nice! This foreshadows how he's a pawn for a bigger game. Heck, in PokeSpe, Sonia's gym challenge is a sore spot for her. Imagine her investigating the foul play along Legends, because at least it'll have Oleana will spy on her, and find the legendary for Rose to use in his boss battle.
It would have actually been such a better story than what we got.
Like we keep getting 2 conflicting opinions about Leon, maybe Sonia holds a grudge against him and her perspective of him isn't great but Hop seems to think he's so amazing. Marnie tells you she's heard rumours about him but Rihan won't hear anything against his greatest rival because he's places Leon on this unbeatable pedestal that if it turns out to all be a lie what does that make Rihan without his goal of defeating Leon?
Sonia can see in Hop the same naive love for Pokémon that young Leon had and she's worried the Gym Challenge will change him the way she perceives it to have changed Leon so rather than her taking to us and bouncing her research ideas off us she takes to Hop. She sees Hop getting too cocky as he breezes through the Gym Challenges due to the match fixing until he gets a reality check from Bede. But the Chairman doesn't like that, he doesn't want Hop losing, even to his own challenger so when Bede is told to leave Hop alone he worries he's going to be replaced and overhears Oleana wanting to learn more about the research Sonia is doing and that leads to him destroying the mural in Stow On Side and getting removed from the Gym Challenge. He's picked up by Opal cause truth be told Opal never liked the way Rose runs the Gym Challenge. Doesn't like the fact some trainers are clearly favoured and others aren't. And she sees a prime opportunity to finally maybe make a difference in this whole corrupt system.
Likewise Piers wants Marnie to take over the gym and quit the Gym Challenge cause he knows she won't win and he knows Chairman Rose will go to great lengths to try and stop her and anyone else from ruining his plans, that's the real reason he sent Team Yell out to cheer her on, they aren't just there to stop other challengers they are there to stop the League Staff from stopping Marnie (and anyone else for that matter). Like how cool would it be if they from the start actually showed the football hooligans are causing trouble with the League Staff but it turns out they're just trying to maintain a fair competition.
And as you said you bring thr Doggos into this by having Rose ultimately force one of the dogs to fight for him since he doesn't care about tradition or fairness he wants his way to remain the only way and we have to use the other doggo to save it an defeat Rose. Then Leon promises a completely fair finals which he ultimately loses and he announces he'll restart his Gym Challenge so that he can prove to himself and the region that he wasn't a complete fraud, and to prove to Sonia and Rihan that he was worthy of being their rival.
All while Hop is having to come to terms with 1. His brother wasn't this unbeatable champion and it was mostly fake and 2. He was almost swept up in the exact same scheme and if it hadn't been for Bede, Marnie and the player he absolutely would have been and 3. I'd add that maybe Hop admits he actually doesn't enjoy battling that much, he likes it but he only really wanted to be Champion cause of how much he looked up to Leon but over the course of his Gym Challenge he's came to really admire Sonia and her quick thinking and deep thirst for knowledge and the truth thus he wants to study to be a Pokémon Professor rather than a Pokémon Trainer now that he's finally able to see past his hero worship of Leon.
like 12 things involving the later plots of that pirate thing just clicked into place one after the other. and I'm excited about it because it was all the stuff in the back third that never really Fit right.
and I'm just Excited about it:
1. Lordakai's father was never given the hoial captain's sword he should have been because he was a privateer not a commissioned officer. Lordakai 2 was never told about this because Lordakai 1 was ashamed of it and kept it from him. and that's the big secret that destroys Lordakai's heroic image of his father and makes him have to start coming to terms with his legacy.
2. That mess is also why his and Toi'uhla's child being named for him is such a big deal to him. 'Erifolda Lordakai' is not a name to live up to. but maybe third time will be the charm and will finally bring honor to it.
3. Lorinuses normally have clutches of 4-6 eggs with about an 80% hatch rate meaning most lorinuses have at least one sibling. Toi'uhla doesn't and zer sire is absent from zer life and the story as a whole. This is now because of pirates. Asu'uhla's nest was raided shortly after zer chicks had hatched and zer mate killed when ze attempted to protect the nest, Toi'uhla was the only one Asu'uhla managed to save.
4. years later, during the ransom negotiations Lordakai would lie about Many things to make the situation seem more dire than it was but one of those lies was that he had previously sold off lorinus hostages before and would not hesitate to do so again. He mentions that ze already knows what it's like to lose people to that, so one more must not be That big of a deal to zer if ze won't pay off the ransom. Lordakai says that because Toi'uhla had mentioned the raids on Cu'Liona but didn't tell Lordakai what happened to zer family specifically so he is saying it as a "you as a duke have lost citizens to this" while Asu'uhla interprets it as him knowing that ze had lost people to this and when it happened as him admitting to zer that He was the one who ordered that raid and is thus now responsible for both of the worst and most painful events that have ever happened to zer. Almost zer entire family being taken from zer and now zer only remaining child potentially meeting the same fate. Which is why ze fucking Hates him and will never believe he is anything other than a monster hell bent on destroying everything ze holds dear. i was about to list off all the other reasons Asu'uhla has to hate him but there's a lot and that's already more than enough to explain it.
5. The doctor that risks angering a few major political powers by giving Lordakai and Toi'uhla shelter while they try to hatch out a nest and who previously taught Lordakai the basics of first aid is Cailoan. AKA Yandoli's mother. AKA the woman Lordakai had a really good week with almost 40 years ago and who he knocked up before he disappeared for 40 years. It's Yandoli's idea and Cailoan agrees to it because Lordakai promises to pay back all the child support he owes for their four kids. (that to be fair to him, he did not know existed until like 2 or 3 years before this)
6. Cailoan let's Asu'uhla visit Toi'uhla because no one ever actually told her what Asu'uhla did to make Toi'uhla and Lordakai feel they need to hide from zer.
7. The ensuing fight is what causes Toi'uhla to believe zer chicks would never be safe on Cu'Liona or Cu'Awl. Ze had previously hoped that once they were hatched it would be safe to bring them home because destroying a nest of 2 week old eggs and killing an infant are two very different things in their culture.
8. That new belief is what makes Toi'uhla finally relent on zer belief their chicks shouldn't be named, as is tradition for lorinuses. Zer chicks will never be safe amongst them and so zer chicks need not be burdened by their traditions. even if it does pain Toi'uhla.
9. the reason Toi'uhla eventually accepts Guli'vany 's invitation to Cu'Awl is that during the first raid on the Harbor's Bane following Eri's hatching is that it showed how Vulnerable Eri was on the ship. What used to be an exciting and thrilling feature of the pirate life almost got their chick killed.
10. the second part of the book ends with Lordakai leaving Toi'uhla and Eri in Cu'Awl and promising he'll be back soon. The camera follows him as he leaves and settles in his cabin for the night. where he feeds the bacterial colonies in his lamps and remises about how he got the bacteria for them/ the last night he ever saw his father. He now knows Lordakai Senior was a privateer and not a naval officer, and the memory from years later of burying a vial of that glowing bacteria in place of his father's body haunts him as he leaves his own child in a similar way.
11. Lordakai isn't in the third act for a really long time. It's mostly just Toi'uhla struggling to adapt to life in Cu'Awl and struggling with anxiety and panic attacks while trying to raise a mixed species child alone as a social outcast. With letters from Lordakai devolving into arguments between them. Where Toi'uhla is begging that he give up the life, if not for Toi'uhla, then for Eri.
12. the book ends when Lordakai almost dies and it snaps him to his senses. Not wanting to be another vile burried in an empty grave.
What in The World Is Q Planning? (a Qcard meta)
So I've been thinking (I know, I know). We're nearly 3/4th through the season, and so far, it's been fairly difficult to see how it all ties in together.
What's Q doing exactly? What's his end game, his exit strategy?
Brace yourselves: it's galaxy brain time.
(Also, fair warning: this post is long AF.)
What the heck is going on?
If you're like me, you must have been asking yourself: what the heck is Q doing?
To answer that, there are three narrative elements we should examine separately:
What happened in the present with the Stargazer?
Why did Q bring team Picard to the dark totalitarian present?
Why did Q go back to the 21st century to prevent Renee Picard from going to space?
Note that all three plot points are intimately tied together like an intricate puzzle, but #2 and #3 are direct consequences of #1 (through Q's intervention). Don't worry, I'll explain.
The starting point: the Stargazer
Episode 2.7 (my beloved) revealed a few critical points to us:
Agnes is very likely the next Borg Queen;
"We're all here for [Picard]";
"We're stuck".
Fine, you say, that's all well and good, but it doesn't shed much light on whatever Q's scheming. Except it does, when we dig a little deeper.
In a previous post, I wrote already about what Queen!Agnes could mean for the Borg, and how Picard's actions impact that, so I won't spend more time on it.
What's important for now is that Picard's actions on the Stargazer are the both the starting point of the whole mess, and their eventual ending.
The road not taken
Q had to intervene because Picard gave in to his fear of the unknown and his hatred of the Borg, killing himself, the fleet and the new Queen in the process.
A fact Picard plainly refuses to admit, even to himself. When Q tells him that Picard does know, deep down, he doesn't answer. He can't.
In fact, Picard can't even acknowledge it. The idea that he could do such a thing (destroy out of fear and anger) is so at odds with his self-image, with his sense of self that he literally can't contemplate it.
He can't have been so wrong; so his decision must have been right. There was no other way: he made the only possible choice.
If that sounds like a psychological defense, that's because it is.
Jean-Luc's sense of self is more fragile than it seems at first glance. His childhood trauma, and inability to move on from it, has left invisible cracks in the very foundations of who he is.
It's not a coincidence that his unconscious mind manifests as a dark basement, a dungeon: it's the foundation upon which the castle of his self is built, and it's not sound.
(Also there are literal monsters down there. Never a good sign.)
As Jean-Luc fears his emotions, they in turn rule over him.
Of course, that's unacceptable for a cerebral Starfleet officer such as Picard. Not unlike a Vulcan, he's cut himself off from his emotions, keeps them behind the White Door under lock and key, where they won't interfere with his reason and logic.
Without emotions to get in the way, Picard can and does rationalize his choice on the Stargazer: the Borg are dangerous, they can't change, there was no other choice but to destroy them.
And indeed, based on Picard's knowledge, his logic, his decision makes sense: destroy the threat before it destroys you.
But he's wrong.
As a famous Vulcan once said:
Tumblr media
Picard has logic and knowledge in abundance, but what he lacks is wisdom.
And wisdom doesn't come from logic without emotions, or emotions without logic: but from the successful integration of both.
Picard has to accomplish this integration if ever hopes to ascend, which I theorize is the next frontier for him. He needs to look up, quite literally.
So what better way for Q to bring the point home than to show Picard a world where his logical, rational reasoning for blowing up the Stargazer is taken to its absolute extreme?
"Welcome to the very end of the road not taken."
And indeed, it is: here is a world where fear of the unknown and hatred of what is different reign supreme, with terrible consequences for the universe and its inhabitants.
As Andrew Smith once wrote:
“People fear what they don't understand and hate what they can't conquer.”
Reminds you of something? Why, the dark present, of course.
In both realities, Picard is a role model. But where our Picard encourages the Starfleet cadets to "look up", Warlord!Picard does the opposite, and symbolically looks down instead, letting his basest instincts (anger, fear, hatred) rule him.
As Q points out, the dark present is a reflection of this duality:
Tumblr media
The dark future is a logical extreme, a metaphor, a mirror held up to Picard to help him understand where he went wrong:
"This is the only life you understand."
Of course, Q exaggerates. Picard is struggling with his fear of the Borg, and made a bad decision, but he isn't Warlord!Picard by any stretch of the imagination.
Q knows that, of course, but he's angry (we'll see he may have good reasons to be), and he needs his provocative words to get Picard to think.
Unfortunately, unsurprisingly, it doesn't work.
And so, Q leaves Picard to see and experience for himself the corruption of the dark present. But once Picard's had a taste of it, and found his crew, there's nothing more here for him to learn.
To the past we go.
Through a mirror, brightly
So Q leaves a trail of crumbs and gets team Picard to follow him to the 21st century. But why?
Q wants Jean-Luc, the last Picard, to meet Renee, the first Picard (to travel to the stars). Believe it or not, it's as simple as that.
The dark present comes to life because Renee lets her fear win the day. She too, like her descendent, has trouble accepting her emotions and confronting her fear:
"I start going numb, and that scares me. I don't know if it's my gut, or just plain fear."
She fears the unknown of space, her own reactions to it, and her capacity to rise up to the occasion. Letting fear control her, she stays on Earth, with dramatic consequences for all.
In other words, she's Jean-Luc's mirror.
As an aside: it's not a coincidence Q chose to take the form of Renee's therapist. And despite what Estonia and Picard think, Q is actually helping her, in a roundabout way, and through her, trying to reach Jean-Luc:
Tumblr media
He's right, just like he's right about her not being ready yet. She's not, but she will be, after Jean-Luc talks to her at Q's instigation.
Q not only wanted Picard to see Renee as a reflection of his own fears, but also wanted Jean-Luc to help her through them. Picard can't help himself, because he doesn't know himself; but helping others, raising them up with his words, is something that he excels at:
"You must learn to lift others in time of great danger, to lead them with inspiring speech."
And so he does. He and Renee sit down and have a conversation about fear, and Jean-Luc actually gives her good advice, including this little gem about finding light in the darkness:
Tumblr media
Yes, Jean-Luc, trust your sun! He needs you, more than you know:
"Sometimes those who shine the brightest feel the sting of fear and melancholy in ways that others can never understand."
Jean-Luc is talking about Renee here, and ostensibly his mother, but let's face it: he might as well be describing Q. Who, like the sun, burns bright but is essentially all alone in the dark.
Regardless, it works: the last Picard talks the first Picard through her own fears, Renee goes into quarantine and the dark future is (presumably) averted.
But it's not enough: Jean-Luc can't ever seem to apply his own wise advice to himself. His fears are too deep, too ancient, rooted in old wounds that have never properly healed.
We need to dig deeper
Hence the therapy session.
Personally, I'm more and more convinced Q is the therapist. I don't have any proof of it beyond a gut feeling. It doesn't even particularly make sense since we know Q is losing his powers. I don't know what to tell you: I just do, and I'm probably wrong.
Anyway, we know that, at the very least, Q has engineered this strange therapy: the show spells it out for us through Estonia.
"All of that was part of Q's plan? That you experience that? That you relive those memories?"
So ultimately, it doesn't matter if Q is the therapist, or if Jean-Luc conjured up a Q-sounding therapist to help him. Either way, Q gets what he wants: for Jean-Luc to start addressing his trauma and the root of his fear.
And Picard does make some progress. He learns that not all "monsters" are what they seem: his father, obviously, but the seed has been planted, and there's hope he'll eventually understand it applies to the Borg Queen.
(And Q.)
Yet Picard is still far from ready to face his fears. There's so much more to confront: something is trapped behind the white door and is clamouring to get out.
What's behind the door is anybody's guess, but whatever it is, I believe it's absolutely essential to Picard's healing: most likely, his feelings, desperate to be finally let out.
Among them, prominently, his feelings for Q.
But Picard flatly refuses to open the door. As he angrily tells the therapist, we don't know how the story ends -- but he does.
My guess is: it ended badly. Very badly. At his mother's urging, he opened the door, and it ended with her death: she probably killed herself.
And so, we come to the core of the problem: Jean-Luc doesn't want to open the door, just like he didn't want to be unstuck.
Tumblr media
What if he opens the door, and it ends in tragedy again? What if his feelings, his love, bring death to someone else he cares about, again?
The only possible answer is: never again.
And so the door remains shut, his emotions out of reach, and Jean-Luc stays stuck.
Look up
Whenever young Jean-Luc was scared, his mother would play the same song, and help him through his fear:
Tumblr media
This is why Q made Picard hear his mom's favorite song when he faced the Borg Queen, and again in the dark La Barre after he lashed out.
Q was trying to get a message across, on the most basic of levels: look up, get past your fear, the monster is not what you think.
But that's not all: Q is possibly trying to trigger a memory of Picard working through his trauma.
A memory, Porg, I hear you say. What are you talking about, it hadn't happened yet.
Well, no.
Or had it?
Now, wait a minute...
Let's pause here to think things through:
Agnes is the Borg Queen;
Agnes becomes the Borg Queen in 21st century LA;
She's only there because Q intervened when Picard blew up the Stargazer;
Picard blew up the Stargazer because of the Borg Queen.
Do you see the problem?
That's right, we've got ourselves a paradox.
Breezing past the obvious and delicious AGT 2.0 implications, this explains a lot about Q's behavior.
He intervened, and now they're all trapped, unable to move on.
The therapist tells us so outright. Twice, in fact:
"In the meantime, we're all stuck here."
"Why do you think we're here?"
"Because... I'm stuck."
"We are."
Earlier on in the season, when Picard tells Q that he refuses to be a pawn in his game, Q replies:
"You are the very board on which this game is played."
If Picard is the board, then all the other characters, including Q, are merely playing pieces, stuck in a game they can't win.
We're all hostages here
And now we come to the truly galaxy brain part: keep in mind this is all pure speculation, and will likely be disproved tomorrow.
I'm wondering if they're caught in a time loop.
Either caused by the paradox itself, by the anomaly when Picard blew it up, or by Q every time Picard fails to get it right.
Interestingly, the Borg Queen from the dark present tells us:
Tumblr media
The nature of time is to flow: I'd argue a time loop, which can't move forward at all, like a snake biting its own tail, constitutes "broken" time.
However, @celestialwarzone cleverly pointed out that the Queen doesn't explicitely warn Picard of a time loop, which is a fair point, as the Borg have temporal abilities beyond most linear beings. Three options are possible: she may be unaware of it, unwilling to share its existence, or there simply is no time loop.
But let's assume, for the sake of argument, that there is indeed a time loop on top of a time paradox. It would conveniently shed light on a few points.
First, it would explain how the new Borg Queen knew exactly what to tell Picard:
Tumblr media
At the end of the loop, Picard would know Agnes is the same Borg Queen he has killed and will kill aboard the Stargazer: these words from his past are a shibboleth, a shared understanding between him and Agnes. They are a key. But without the background work of undoing Picard's trauma, they aren't enough.
I suspect that next time, however, they will be.
Secondly, a time loop would explain why Guinan's Summoning didn't work: if they're cut off from regular time, it stands to reason they're also cut off from the Continuum itself.
Which is likely why Q's powers are disappearing: he's literally running out of time to make Picard confront his fear and make the right decision.
No wonder Q is desperate: a non-linear being, caught in a time loop, reliving the same few days, losing his powers, running out of time...
A literal hostage to what he loves.
Lastly, could it be this why Q is so angry in episode 2.2 and why he lashes out so harshly at Picard?
"I've had enough of your obstinance, your stubbornness, your insistence on changing in all ways but the one that matters!"
Note that Q neither tells Picard what he is supposed to change, nor explains how he's apparently not been doing it. Cue a very confused Picard, which in turns means an angry Picard.
But if they're caught in a loop... given that humans are linear beings, it's very likely that Picard would forget everything the moment a new loop start (time being essentially 'reset' for him).
So every loop, every attempt, would be entirely new to Picard. If we look at their conversation from his perspective -- dropped into a corrupted present by a furious Q after not seeing him for 30 years -- it makes no sense whatsoever.
But it does to Q.
From Q's non-linear perspective, they've probably had this exact same conversation before. And here they are again, so Picard clearly hasn't listened to him before. No wonder Q seems more frustrated and cross than we've ever seen him:
"Oh, I could tell you, but you're far too clever to listen."
Q has no wish to be Cassandra, telling truths nobody wants to hear. Knowing that it's useless, a waste of his now limited time, he's given up trying convince Picard with his words.
Here we go again
Which begs the question, considering how patient Q normally is: how many times, exactly, have they gone through all this?
If they are indeed caught in a loop, I'd wager quite a few.
The show possibly gives us a hint in episode 2.5 when Q tells a doubtful Dr. Soong:
"In 17 seconds, you're going to take a seat."
"(...)There. 17 seconds, right on the tick."
Oddly specific, even for Q, especially with limited powers. Except if he's done this before, Groundhog Day style.
Watch how the protagonist times everyone's actions to the second, allowing him to walk away with the money unnoticed:
youtube
At any rate, in the loop we're watching, things have taken a turn for the worst: Q's powers are starting to wane ("Unexpected... and most unfortunate"), although we don't know yet how much, or if he has any power left at all.
At the very least, we know Q can't just snap doubts into Renee's mind anymore, and he seems to have been doing things by himself this time around, at least from episode 2.4 onwards.
Clearly, he's running out of time.
I wonder if this sudden unexpected turn is what has been driving Q to new extremes, taking higher risks like forcibly pushing Jean-Luc into confronting his trauma in 2.6.
What if this loop is the last attempt Q can manage before... he dies?
Then the only play he has left is to go all in, and hope for the best.
The end game
How does it end? Honestly, I have no idea. We can only speculate at this point, and we'll likely learn more in episode 2.8.
However, I'm reasonably certain Picard and his team must end back exactly where they started: back on the Stargazer with the new Queen.
@celestialwarzone, always asking the smart questions, wondered how exactly team Picard would travel back to the future.
And there's a thorny question.
The other Borg Queen is dead. But even if they came back the same way they left, slingshoting around the sun, they still wouldn't end up back on the Stargazer at the right moment. And Agnes, for one, most likely has to travel back through the anomaly with her new fleet in order to, well, be the Queen.
So there's not that many options to get everyone back to their proper places:
Either there is a time loop and time resets, problem solved;
Or Q sends them back with the last of his powers.
Either way, it's their last shot at fixing thing. If there's a loop, this is clearly the last attempt; and if there isn't, they aren't getting a third chance.
If Picard still doesn't get make the right choice, the consequences could be devastating. Would the timeline then collapse entirely under the weight of the paradox? Only Q knows. But I imagine it can't be good for the universe.
Q's exit strategy
Speaking of Q, what could be his fate?
If there's no time loop, then most likely, he will have to use what's left of his powers to send team Picard forward in time. Considering his current state, the effort may very well kill him.
If there's a time loop, his chances of survival are higher, unless the effort of keeping it together until the end proves too great.
Either way, considering the foreshadowing in 2.7, I'm really worried about him.
Actually, there's something about Maman Picard's story I still can't quite wrap my head around. She says the Sorcerer loses his magic,
Tumblr media
The first part is clearly Q losing his powers, but the second part? "Stolen back"? "In the very manner he had arrived by it"?
How or from where does a Q get their power? Who or what could be stealing Q's? (Let's hope it's not the Continuum.)
So many questions! Let's hope we start getting some answers tomorrow.
Anyway, thank you for reading this insanely long meta, and fingers crossed for some delightful Qcard content in 2.8!
Alpha Cloud au
Please
I'm going on a different train of thought.
1. The first Soldiers were Alphas. They were great fighters, aggressive and strong, but also unstable. Their mood swings were uncontrollable. The next Soldiers were Omegas. Angeal Hewley was the first. He was able to calm both Genesis and Sephiroth. Hojo insisted now that he knew the pheromone mixture he could control Sephiroth's emotions more efficiently. Hollander thought the partnership was more ideal. Neither plan was highly effective and had major flaws, but the fight went on. Some Soldiers took Omega partners, others took the pheromone pills. One thing was absolutely certain...both methods stopped being as effective over time. The alphas just got more aggressive as time went on.
2. Cloud was captured after Sephiroth went wild in Nibelheim, his aggression and destructive tendencies off the charts more than ever. Sephiroth was sedated and brought back. As a witness, Cloud was more or less disposable. Hojo used him as a test to see if he could make Sephiroth again...but better. He eventually abandoned Cloud and labeled him a failure. Besides Sephiroth needed more tending to. During a clean-up job, an Omega Zack Fair stumbled upon Cloud in a lab, and without thinking just let him out.
3. By smell alone, Zack figured Cloud was a pretty powerful alpha, and one that had never been exposed to an omega before. But as Cloud woke up groggily...he showed no other signs of being an alpha. He wasn't aggressive, possessive, or temperamental. Cloud was angry, but not taking it out on anyone or anything around him. Cloud was unbelievably angry at ShinRa, but he didn't even take it out on Zack. He said he wasn't looking to join them and it was best for Zack to leave him alone. But Zack can't. He can't explain why. He is just drawn to Cloud and not in the babysitter-like way he's drawn to alphas in ShinRa. He genuinely wants to help Cloud even though it went against everything he'd fought for so far.
4. Cloud seemed to mostly tolerate Zack. He had been self-sufficient before and certainly showed no sign of needing an omega or pheromone pills. They worked their way across the continent and Zack looked the other way when Cloud got in the mood for sabotage. Even then, Cloud seemed so even tempered and precise. Over time, Cloud opened up more, describing his life before, letting Zack in. By the time they were crossing the sea Cloud admitted he did think of Zack as a friend now. When they reached Junon though, there were more Soldiers. Some who recognized Zack. Genesis Rhapsodos was not in one of his nicer moods when he stepped up and demanded Zack return, or get dragged back. Zack told Cloud he'd handle it, but Cloud pushed him back. He was not ready to fight, but he looked dangerous. The growl that came out of him made Zack's knees wobble, but Genesis looked worse. How could Cloud have an affect on another alpha?
"Zack is not your property," Cloud said, "he's a part of my pack and I will defend him." To Zack's shock...Genesis was cowed. He'd absolutely never thought he'd see this.
5. They moved out of Junon quickly, Zack in even more awe of Cloud...but also deeply touched.
"We're a pack?" he asked.
"I couldn't think of another word," Cloud said.
"No no," Zack said, "it's just...I've never had another friend...not one like you who wanted to keep me around. ShinRa doesn't let omegas...the alphas get too possessive."
"I won't do that," Cloud said.
"I know," Zack said, "that's why I'm so...I think I'm happy to be in your pack now." Cloud seemed pleased, but it became obvious that they were being followed. Genesis made himself known again...but this time much more timidly.
"What do you want?" Cloud said. He seemed pissed.
"I...I think," Genesis said, "I think I want to join you. Join...your pack."
"Why?" Cloud said.
"I don't know," Genesis said, "but what you did...it's the calmest I've felt it years. I don't want it to go away." Cloud softened then and let him join.
"Please," Genesis said, "my friend Angeal...he's still with ShinRa though. He's like Zack. He used to keep me calm...but when it stopped working they took him away. Can he be in the pack too?" He looked distraught about it. Zack hadn't known Angeal and Genesis were so close. Cloud seemed to sympathize, something that alphas never did.
"We can try and help your friends," Cloud said, "we'll make room in the pack for them."
And that's when Zack decided Cloud wasn't really an Alpha. He was a pack master.
