Happy #InternationalWomensDay . . . Happy International Women’s Day to all of my incredible sisters reading this. As a disabled woman, if I could offer one piece of advice it would be to know your self-worth. Life can be so unkind to our mental health, as women, I feel that there is a constant feeling of comparing oneself against others. But, humans are a product of nature end nature is diverse. How boring would it be to be in a garden with just one type of flower? We all need to remember that there is power in being your own unique self. One thing people can be sure about me is that I own who I am, I am my own person, I have my own weird and quirky interests and likes. I might be one persons honey to another persons marmite. But in life, we cannot please every single person we meet, so be yourself and enjoy it. Take stock of all the things you have achieved in your life and continue to build towards the future you want. I’m happy to be, where I am now, I’m in a career, I’m lucky to be paid for my writing, I worked tirelessly to get my degree and a masters degree and I’m getting closer to where I want to be every day. I’m independent, I found my passions, I’m comfortable with my own unique self, and I’m surrounded by people who value me for who I am. In life strive to be happy and nothing else. Anything else on top of that is a bonus. . . . #Blogger #DiscoverUnder10k #DisabledBlogger #DisabledInfluencer #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityConfident #DisabledWoman (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpiwHQZKmAi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Seizure days are rest days. Today that's meant napping, watching Brady Bunch in a cozy blanket, then napping again in a different snuggly blanket. And trying not to think about my unlisted handmade ornaments. I think this seizure was caused by overdoing it by doing a full load of laundry yesterday instead of just a small load, but laundry mountain had been growing taller and I wanted to make a good dent in it. The good news is now I'll be able to wear my new to me secondhand clothes from @poshmark once I feel a bit better. My new character Claudia is a LAE/LAK amputee. She puts some make up and looking herself in the mirror. She is confident and happy with what she is. “I am a unique and even sexier than average women “, she often said to herself. #amputeeart #amputeelife #amputeebeautiful #amputeestrong #amputeemotivation #amputeestory #amputeesexy #amputeeleg #amputeestump #amputeepride #amputeestyle #amputeedevotees #amputeecomic #amputeemakeup #procreate #digitalart #disabledwoman #digitalpainting https://www.instagram.com/p/CcJgsHAJ640/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

When a dog enters your life, they fill all the empty gaps you had inside your heart. The reason you cannot ever truly be sad in their presence is because they filled all the places that sadness would have inhabited. They make your life whole, they make a house a home and they give you purpose even when you can’t find it yourself. My wild Rose is truly the life and soul of the party. She is the Jester of our household and without a doubt the most exuberant pooch I’ve ever known. But for all of her nutty ways and weird habits. She is a truly sweet and caring soul and I’ll always be grateful that she came into my life when she did. Being an adult sometimes can feel very demanding and often a little daunting at times. But Rosie always makes me look on the bright side of life which is something that copious amounts of therapy over the years never truly did. Rosie is a dog who helps me see the world through rose tinted spectacles. . . . #Dogs #GuideDogs #GuideDogsOfInstagram #ServiceDogsOfInstagram #Disability #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityLife #DisabilityEducation #DisabilityAdvocate #DisabledWoman #DisabledBlogger #GuideDogsUK #DogParent #DogInfluencer #DogInfluences #DisabledInfluencer #Labrador #LabradorsOfInstagram #LabradorRetriever #DiscoverUnder10K #LondonLife (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcdzYdbqJQk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

CHRONIC ILLNESS HYGIENE TIPS AND PRODUCTS (photo of my mom's garden unrelated) I'm hoping this post might be helpful as I share some tips and products that help me with personal hygiene, and if you have any tips or products that help you please share them in the comments. It can help me and others too, so I would really appreciate that! I linked all of the helpful products in my Hygiene products Story highlight. One tip that helps me is breaking tasks down into smaller bits so they don't use as much energy and are also less overwhelming - for example not washing my hair and my body on the same day, sometimes breaking it down even further and washing the top of my body and the bottom of it on separate days as well. Another one is to make a list of hygiene tasks to try to accomplish each week. I mark them off as I complete them and it helps me not to forget something, like cutting my nails. Another thing is a bit more specific to the bath/shower, which is to look up products that may help you stay safe and complete your tasks. There are a lot of options, and if you can't really afford anything new I find that stepping onto a stable (not wobbly) bathroom scale before stepping into the tub helps. I also lean against my cane or the back of a folding chair while getting in and out of the tub. Again make sure everything is stable so you don't end up falling and getting hurt. A folding chair can also be helpful for transferring into and out of the bathtub, depending on how much mobility you have. If you can afford things to aid with the tub/shower, you have options like grab bars, shower chairs, and handles that clamp to the side of the tub. Wygrywaj!
Moi Kochani....

I breathe. I cry. I smile. I dream…just like you. Just like you I have goals that I work towards everyday. They may be centered around disability rights/justice, health, relationships, or my career. But I have them. And just like you I hit bumps in the road. Sometimes I slam full-force into the biggest obstacles around me. — Tiara Simmons-MerciusOn a daily basis I confront ableism, racism, sexism, well…most of the -isms. The thing is, it’s not just the obstacle around you, but how you tackle it. Do you sit in front of it with your face in your hands because there’s nothing you can do? Or do you observe it and turn it around in your mind as your figure out a way around it? I fall in both categories. Sometimes, some obstacles and stumbling blocks just seem too big to handle but, there’s got to be a way, a solution.I choose activism.— Tiara Simmons-MerciusI am here to be me. Not disorder. I am a double below-knee amputee. Three fingers on my right hand are partially amputated. I have invisible disabilities as well: Neuropathy and paraplegiaAt what age did your disorder become a daily issue? *1Who were you before your illness became debilitating? *I've always been disabled so, I guess the person I am now is who I've always been, or was growing into. What would you do if you were not dealing with your invisible illness?  *Much of the same things as I do now: Advocacy, activism. Working or trying to work. My invisible disabilities only affect me slightly more than my visible. What would you like people to know about your daily life? *It is not a life to be pitied. Yes, I have barriers, but my disabilities are not the barriers, even though they can be draining. Lack of access is; ableism is. What would make living and moving in the world easier for you? *More accessibility. Less pity. More opportunities for involvement.Do you have any life hacks? *Not really. I use anything I can find to help me reach items. I use my wheelchair footplates to help me transport items. What kind of support do you get from family or friends? *My husband is a huge help. He gives me a lot of support both physical and emotional.Have you ever had someone not believe you have an invisible illness because of your appearance and if so are there any examples that stand out?  *Sometimes. But I think what makes it more believable is the fact that I have visible disabilities, so it's not a stretch that I'd have more (to those people)How has your chronic illness affected your relationships? *I'm not as social as I used to be. So people do not call me or invite me out as much.Is there anything you are afraid to tell people in your life? *I'm generally pretty open. It's not so much WHAT I'd tell them, it's the HOW. I'm also straightforward and tend to just say what needs to be said.Does the fact that your disease is invisible change how healthcare professionals treat you? *My HCPs put in my records that I'm a chronic pain patient, but they are just paying me lip service I think. What is your best coping mechanism? *Sleep. Sleep and music. What are you the most concerned about and the most hopeful for in the future? *Concerned about being a disabled parent. But also, that's what makes me hopeful. My future career as a lawyer also fit into both categories. Is there anything you *don't* want to talk about? Is there a subject we should avoid during the interview? *Not sure. I will politely let you know during the interview. Is there anything you want to make sure we talk about during the interview? Like an organization you want to promote or something specific that you deal with.I want to be able to speak about medical racism. Being a Black disabled woman navigating healthcare and society. What is the hardest and/or best lesson your condition has taught you?Best lesson: I don't have to do everything. What is the best purchase under $100 that helped your lifeCrockpot. Go figure. by Monica Michelle
