So, James Somerton's brought his Wiccan and Hulkling video back online and I feel a need to just yell into the void for a moment about it.

In that video, Somerton says a lot of really dumb things and exaggerations to make the Young Avengers MLM power couple of Wiccan/Hulkling and the gay X-Men Iceman seem more important to comic history then they are. They are incredibly important, of course - Iceman especially is, to my knowledge, the only Lee/Kirby character to be textually out - but their writers were not fighting tooth and nail as Somerton claims they were - and they certainly weren't acting on spite against a homophobic Marvel who would never let queers into their flagship franchise. They were stories, pitched and approved like any other...

Hell, Bendis had already written a queer woman in the form of Ultimate Spider-Woman a fair amount of time before Iceman came out... Somerton's commentary makes no sense - it's well-delivered and no shade to anyone who was fooled by it, but (like a lot of comic book discourse online TBH) it doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

That said, I think it's important to remember that Marvel Corporate does still need to approve queer coming-outs. There are actual times where characters were intended to have come out as queer, but ended up as subtext in the final draft or had their arcs abandoned entirely. Hell, in the Marvel Pride special last year, Marvel writer Tini Howard alluded to the challenges that can come from writing queer stories while not knowing if they can be officially queer - mentioning how she's been "writing Rachel and Betsy falling in love before [she] knew [she] could."

So like. If you see something queer happening in a Marvel comic and it remains confined to subtext, then please do not immediately jump to "Well, Somerton lied about corporate resistance to Wiccan/Hulkling, so therefore this writer totally had a choice to do a queer story and just chose not to"... Not everyone has the sway of Bendis! Not every queer coming-out is approved. They often take time.

Queercoding is also, for better and for worse, often the route to queer canon in a collaborative medium like comics. There's a lot of queercoding and queer implications from the Jim Shooter era (where queer stuff was actually firmly prohibited at Marvel) that are only now becoming canon. Northstar, Marvel's first openly-gay superhero, was coded for years before it was hard canon. Chris Claremont, one of the main architects of the X-Men as we know them today, wrote plenty of stuff that was subtextually gay that Marvel is still playing catch-up with to this day - ex/ Mystique and Destiny only became Nightcrawler's biological parents, as was his original vision, last year and we still haven't had Kate Pryde do anything more textually Sapphic then kiss a tattoo artist one time...

Being frustrated is cool - I am also often frustrated with Disney and Marvel, as my blog can attest - but please do direct your frustration at the corporation and don't jump to being mean to authors/artists... as I'm pretty sure they're often just as disappointed as we are!

Six Makeup: Details from Erin Ramirez's Story

I made a post compiling makeup information from the queens across productions and queens, which you can find here. ----------- After leaving Six, Erin Ramirez did a series of Instagram stories talking through some of the makeup she used while in Six. I compiled that information into this post. Couple notes: - All of these links are to US sites/sellers. I don't know about brand/product availability outside of the US. - The availability of some of these products might differ now. - I'm listing Erin's recommendations as she said them (note that this is paraphrased). But know that not every product will work for everyone, due to coloring or ingredients/formulation. Do your due diligence on what will work for you and individual companies/products/allergens before buying. - And, as always: This is what Erin and some other Six queens use. That does not mean it's what anyone else need to use. Many are expensive and you can typically find cheaper dupes. They're also used for stage makeup and may not translate well to normal lighting or convention stages. The colors may match Erin's costumes but not the materials any given cosplayer is using. Again, it's up to you to determine what works best for you.

GLITTER EYESHADOWS

Lemonhead Space Paste Colors: Viper (green/Boleyn), Wonderland (pink/Howard), Malibu (blue/Parr) - Erin said: These are a paste. Because of the consistency they need to be applied in thinner layers. You have to play around to get to the right application process. - They're the brightest and best glitters for stage out of what she has. - These glitters were given to the Aragon Tour cast by Six while they were performing in Boston.

Designer Dust Co. Face Sprinkles Colors: Emerald City Skyline (green/Boleyn), either Bubblegum Bae or Disco Pants (pink/Howard), Blue Fly Skies (blue/Parr) - These are not as bright onstage as the Lemonhead, but Erin said they are easier to apply (smaller chunks/less pasty). - One of Erin's glitters dried out, but you can spray setting spray in the package to reactivate them. - Erin suggested that the company's glue and silicone applicators be used in tandem with the face sprinkles (more details below).

MAC Glitter Colors: Silver (Platinum, neutral used for all queens), Emerald (Boleyn), Rose (Howard), Cerulean (Parr) - Note: These are slowly being phased out and the colors Six has historically used are either no longer available or have been renamed. Some of them do currently exist in the MAC Pigment which is a similar product. - This is a loose glitter rather than a paste and tend sto have bad fallout. Erin suggests doing eye makeup before the rest of your makeup if you're using it and/or using eyeshadow tape. - These glitters were given to the actors by Six.

NYX Metallic Glitter Color: Beauty Beam (all) - Erin used this on her inner corner for all queens. She said it looks pink in package but looks neutral when worn.

KVD Dazzle Eyeshadow Stick Color: Green Flash (Boleyn) - Erin said this was too mellow for onstage, but she found it easy to apply and great for a night out.

OTHER EYESHADOWS/LINERS

Beauty Creations Dare to be Bright eyeshadow palette Colors: Boujee (green/Boleyn), Bomb af (pink/Howard) - These are no longer sold directly/individually by Beauty Creations. - You can buy the green from Beauty Creations in a pack with other products or individually from Beaute and Hoot. - You can buy the pink on from Beauty Creations in a pack with other products or individually from Amazon. - There are other sources for both of those eyeshadows, I just linked the first few options. - She said the only issue was that these could lean neon under stage lights.

MAC Dazzleshadow Extreme Colors: Celebutante (Howard). Erin also had blue and green but didn't mention those shades that I heard. The green may be Joie de Glitz. I don't think the blue shade is still sold.

Maybelline Tattoo Studio Gel Pencil Colors: Erin just said she had pink and turquoise. I'm not sure on the shades. - She liked these for detailed designs.

Haus Labs Hy-Power Pigment Paint Colors: fuchsia matte (Howard)

CRYSTALS

Designer Dust Co. Face Sparkles Colors (presumable, Erin did not specify these): Green (Boleyn), Glow Pink (Howard), Blue (Parr)

Designer Dust Co. Glue - Erin suggested that this be used with the Designer Dust Co face sprinkles, although I suspect it could be used to similar effect with some of the others. She said this was helpful for easy removal as it allowed the eye look to be peeled off in one go.

NYX Glitter Primer - Erin said this is what was provided to the actors by Six. Was used with MAC and possibly others.

Designer Dust Co. Silicone Applicators - Erin suggested using these with the Designer Dust Co sprinkles. She said they can be used to smear the glitters on "like a spatula." - She also mentioned the liner applicators specifically.

Nightshade final blurb

“You think it’s so easy?” The man asked, the bored look on his face twisting into a cocky expression.

“I don’t think it’s as impressive as you think it is,” I clarified.

He shrugged, twisting the bottle in his hands. “Maybe not, but not just anyone can do what I do.”

I resisted the urge to laugh. “You’re a bartender, not a rocket scientist. Sure there's a learning curve, but it’s not impossible to do what you do.”

The bartender beside him rolled his eyes and served Sasha a drink as the flamboyant Jake continued. “It’s not just about learning how to do it, it’s about the attitude.”

“Let’s make a bet then.”

“A bet?”

I stood from my seat, Isaac shaking his head in the corner as he fought against his laughter. I moved around to join them behind the bar and looked up at Jake with a fake look of innocent curiosity. “You make a drink, I’ll watch and then I’ll make it the same way if not better.”

The challenge shined in his eyes as he leaned down closer to me. It was obvious he expected me to back up, to yield at least for a moment, because when I didn’t his smile faltered for a split second. “What do I get when I win?”

“Fifty bucks.”

“A fifty dollar drink?” He questioned with an amused hum as he mulled the offer over.

Sasha rolled his eyes. “I’m bored! Take the bet and give us a show!”

Everyone else cheered a bit and Jake’s smile widened as he stood up straighter. “Better pay attention, I won’t slow it down for you.”

“I think I’ll manage,” I assured him, leaning against the bar and turning my eyes to his hands as he gathered up his materials and got to work.

He was a skilled bartender, the fluid movements of his hands reminded me of Ozzy in his prime. Jake’s technique had an extra flare of elegance that I could only assume he’d adopted while working here to give the rich guests a bit of an extra show. His hands curled around each ingredient he used, every drink and garnish being added to the cocktail with finesse and precision. The drink itself was one I’d made a hundred times, the technique was simple enough to replicate. I looked up at him as he shook the drink with a wide grin and a quick wink before he poured it into the glass and added the final touches.

He picked it up and handed it to me, far too cocky and overconfident. “You want to just give me the money and save yourself the embarrassment.”

I took a sip of the drink, light and fruity with a decadent aroma. “Not a chance.”

Jake chuckled and moved around the bar, sitting in my vacated seat beside Sasha. I smiled at him, sliding my jacket off the shoulders, slow and deliberately timed. His eyes shamelessly rolled down my body, fixing on the tiger tattoo on my arm with a curious smirk. Isaac gave my shoulder a squeeze as he moved past with a quick and quiet, “Try not to embarrass him too bad.”

This was going to be fun.

Jake settled in his seat, fixing his attention on the new girl. He’d been watching her all night, curiosity rolling around in him like an ever growing ball. Howard had hired her on the spot, something that happened, well, never, and judging by the way she confidently jumped into any open position she knew what she was doing. Still, with all that restaurant knowledge she seemed to have this would be an easy win for him.

He watched her slowly remove her jacket, knowing full well the ploy she was banking on but still letting himself look anyway. She was attractive, soft looking skin and big innocent eyes, certainly the type he was used to drawing in for some fun. The tiger tattoo was a bit surprising, bold against her skin and large enough that it was certain to be seen. She gathered the same ingredients together, and then flashed him a smile, her eyes shifting from innocent doe eyes to confident and fierce.

As soon as she started to make the drink he was shocked. The way she moved, deliberately drawing everyone's attention with ease. She was fast, hands moving through the steps with absolute ease and grace. What she lacked in finesse she made up for in her charisma and flare. This was not her first time making a drink.

“I think this is what they call a hussle,” Scott observed as he settled in beside him.

Sasha laughed, “Oh I like this girl more and more every minute!”

Once she began shaking the drink Jake couldn’t help but glance at the way her tits bounced, but when he managed to tear his eyes away from them he was met with a wide grin and a wink. Fuck. He thought as an unfamiliar feeling washed over him. Sure he was impressed with her, but it was more than that… something that he hadn’t felt in a long time and something he absolutely refused to acknowledge.

She slid the drink across the bar to him, leaning slightly to give him a generous view down her shirt. He silently took a drink, the sweetness of the cocktail washing over his tongue in an instant. Fucking… She held her hand out, waiting. “I believe I’m owed a crisp fifty dollar bill.”

He fished it out of his jacket and shook his head. “Where’d you learn how to do all that?”

With a modest shrug as she folded the bill delicately, she replied, “I basically grew up in a bar so making drinks and schmoozing drunken men with a bit of skin is second nature by now.”

She smiled again bright and mischievous, placing the money between her teeth as she pulled her jacket back on. “It’s hardly fair to hussle a coworker on your first day.”

“Yeah, well, maybe you just need to be more careful about who you bet, Jack.” He chuckled at her use of his own words.

“It’s Jake.”

She clicked her tongue and held his money in between her fingers. “Right. Sorry, it’s a tough name.” The audacity of this woman… He was impressed. She turned to Isaac as he walked back out of the kitchen and waved the cash around. “Dinners on me tonight. Or, I guess, it’s on the master bartender.”

Isaac shook his head. “You gotta stop hustling people you degenerate.”

Iron Man 2

All right, let's do this.

Not too long ago I saw a post somewhere where someone was complaining about this movie. I was trying to think back and remember what they might not have liked.

Having rewatched it, I just think they are crazy.

I might as well start by fangirling over Mickey Rourke's depiction of Whiplash. This character DESERVED more than one movie, it was so well done. (Accent not withstanding- I don't know what a good Russian accent sounds like, but I know a bunch of people didn't like his.) First of all, we have this powerful specimen of a man weeping over his father's death, demonstrating depth of emotion. We then seeing him kicking ass in the science department. Rourke plays this menacing genius so well. He is largely silent and unreactive, so every word we get from him, every twitch of an eyebrow is meaningful. He's captivating from the moment we meet him. He's also not screwing around. When he goes after Tony, he goes for the kill. He does not care about casualties. Too often, superhero movies will have a villain expound on their reasons for what they are doing, thus giving our hero time to get away. Whiplash doesn't do that. He gets down to business. He's strong, he's brilliant, he's capable of this destruction. But for the foresight of Pepper bringing the suit and Happy driving, Stark would be dead. Luck is his undoing, not his own ego.

To dive in further here though, I love the way the movie forces us to see everyone else's perception of this man. Hammer WATCHES Vanko (Whiplash) hack into his suits, he WATCHES him do physics on a Stark scale, and yet still, when money fails to produce results, he treats him like a big dumb lug who can be bullied by bigger, dumber lugs. Because Vanko refuses to speak proper English throughout the movie (which my headcanon is that he can, but chooses not to) and because he's large and tattooed and has long messy hair, the assumption is repeatedly made that he's a dumb ox. EVEN WHEN THEY HAVE EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY. What I love about this is that it's so freaking true to life. People will make assumptions about a person based on physique and will hold on to these assumptions, even when PROVEN wrong. (See Lizzo and every plus-size athlete.) Tony IS a notable exception here. When he confronts Vanko, he talks to him scientist to scientist, acknowledging his intelligence, before taunting him with being stuck in prison. He sees the brain combined with the brawn and, while he refuses to show any fear, he knows the man is a force to be reckoned with.

My only complaint is the dismissive attitude everyone had to Howard Stark having Anton Vanko deported. I'm not a HUGE fan of the fact Marvel opted to make the Russian guy "only out for money" while the American guy "wanted to provide energy for the people", but even if I go with that, it's problematic. Stark already HAS oodles of money by the time he's creating the arc reactor- of COURSE he can opt to just make something for "the good of humanity." Vanko defected, from RUSSIA, during the COLD WAR- he'd have been left with nothing but his own talents, knowledge, and skill. He finds a job and realizes he can make his own millions and we're supposed to think that's bad while loving Howard? Come now. And to have him deported back to the country he betrayed for it? Howard's a hypocritical ass.

I had forgotten this was our first introduction to Black Widow, which was awesome overall. I love Scarlett Johannsen's ability to play the emotional manipulator and also the badass. There's a little overplay on her use of sexuality here, but it makes sense given Tony's proclivities. I do like that they move quickly from animosity to friendships with her and Pepper- we don't have to groan a the two women backstabbing BS.

When I watched this the first time, I did guess the atom thing about a half hour before it happened (to the shock of my friend). I appreciated the building of the collider more this time. I also appreciated Iron Man's character building more this time. He'd just started saving the world, just started paying back an impossible debt to Yinsen, only to learn that his time is more limited than he thought. And he fluctuates between wanting to do so much more and also just wanting to have "fun" in his typical self-destructive spiral way as he's dying. RDJ does this well, though this is actually one area where I felt the fast-talking, West Wing style banter sometimes hurt audience participation in these emotions. There were times where you didn't quite have enough time to process before we were on to the next.

Hammer is annoying. And this is what some people will complain about. Except... he's supposed to be! Hammer is the epitome of people who want to buy legacy. He wants to be known and liked and yeah, a little feared. (If he only cared about being known and liked, he'd have gone the charity route, rather than the war arms route.) He has no skills, so he trades off others' skills and fails to understand anyone who money doesn't speak to.

I want to be clear on this - people who money doesn't speak to, not people who already have money. He does understand Tony Stark to a degree- they both inherited money after all- and his undoing there is more jealousy that Tony got brains to go with his bucks. But he knows legacy is where to hurt the man. He's right about that. What he's wrong about is his ability to bribe and bully Whiplash.

The film quality is definitely sleeker here. We're moving toward the "modern Marvel" LOOK. But there are still lots of times moments are allowed to sit and harsh truths are unveiled. I'm watching for the type of banter people complain about but it's not here yet.

Oh, last because if I don't address it, someone will complain. Don Cheadle vs Terrence Howard as Rhodey- the fact is both men are incredibly talented and equally capable at playing this role. I wish they'd stuck with one or the other but both played their A game in the movies they were in. I don't think I gave Cheadle enough credit when I watched this one the first time (I was on a real Terrence Howard kick at the time and still think really highly of him as actor) but he pulled off the switchover very well.

Jumping out of airplanes is one thing, but love requires real courage. Steve struggles with letting someone into his life. Tony tries to keep his heart intact while Steve works on his issues.

this must be one of my fav stony fics if not my fav of all times! in this fic, i see the "lost" theme applied to steve and his mental health; to the way he's beginning to lose touch with reality and how that threatens to make him lose two of the most important people in his life (aka petey and tony) is just so well written i'm- seriously, it's a masterpiece.

Steve Rogers is a capable leader, a kind and cheerful man, a good friend, a strong role model, and a loyal soldier. He's also teetering on the edge of suicide.

copperbadge is my comfort fic writer of all times, so of course i was going to rec this masterpiece! they way he describes steve's mental health and how close he's to losing all will to live is heartbreaking and amazing at the same time.

i love everything sabre writes, but this must have been my most reread fic in the whole stony fandom without a doubt. the way it deals with steve's health —both physical and mental— is really, really great.

Sure, he had been spending more and more time taking care of Peter since his aunt had fallen ill, but that didn't mean he was going to do something that drastic.

But then again, if someone had told him he would be forced to look for a new job and end up meeting Tony Stark in a broken elevator precisely because of that... Well, he would have laughed.

Yet, that's exactly what happened.

i thought i'd include this fic here too, since i tried to make justice to tony's mental health state post-IM1 and i like how it turned out. whenever i talk about mental health in my fics i try to shine a light on how we tend to think we're alone, when in truth our greatest streghth is the people we surround ourselves with <3

Written for @spnpocweek day four: "what should have been"

Two minutes before Lilith walks into the building, Henricksen goes out back for a smoke. That’s what saves him, a habit he’s been trying to kick for three years, and it saves his damn life. Well, the cigarette and the unbroken salt line he’d been smoking behind.

He watches the news coverage of the explosion from the relative comfort of cheap vinyl in a diner two towns over, and it hits him, all at once, that he no longer exists, that this identity has been well and truly burned. He drops a twenty on the table as his face flashes across the screen. There’s only a couple folded bills left in his wallet, but he doesn’t wait around for change.

When he climbs behind the wheel of the car he lifted from the impound lot behind the precinct, he heads north, for no reason other than to go; to put as many miles between him and the demons he can’t help but feel on his tail, whether they were or not. He stops for gas somewhere in Wyoming and debates using the payphone to call Valerie. In the end, he doesn't, afraid of putting his sister in any more danger than she already is.

Victor counts the swiftly dwindling supply of cash in his wallet when he pulls into a rest area in Nebraska for the night; he's down to eighty-four dollars and sixty-eight cents. It should be enough to get him to Ohio, to the safe deposit box with all the details of Vance Waters' life locked inside. He's never been more thankful for the ingrained paranoia that accompanies a life spent in the Beauru.

Vance has a modest savings account, a mid-grade credit score, and a Ford Taurus in storage just outside of Cleveland. Victor has nothing. His death means the forty grand he has in savings will go to his sister in Norfolk, along with the condo in Annapolis, and his ex-wife is doubtlessly already filling out the paperwork to collect his pension. If his mother hadn't passed three years ago, the news of his death might very well have done her in. Victor can't help but feel relieved she didn't live to see his death on the news.

He locks the doors to the car, pulling the sunshade from the passenger floor over the windshield, and wills himself to get a few hours' sleep. Tomorrow, he'll haul ass the last fifteen hours to Ohio, and Victor Henricksen will no longer exist.

The first thing Vance Waters does is get a room at a Howard Johnson. The front desk is gracious enough to provide a disposable Bic, and the in-room soap creates enough lather to erase the last traces of Victor Henricksen from his face. The second thing he does is take the silver charm in his pocket to a tattoo shop downtown and get it permanently affixed on his skin. He will never again know the greasy hot feeling of demonic possession, no one else will ever be in control of his body.

Today I learned that Starbucks has a new public image campaign based on offering "comprehensive" trans health care.

Starbucks is also super racist and has horrific destructive/parasitic business practices*.

They lean on public image campaigns to stay popular.

SBUX also do not allow visible tattoos or more than two earrings per ear last time I checked. They perpetrate yt "professional standards of grooming" including pressuring black people to get rid of their 'locks due to their views of locks as "unsanitary" and an inherent violation of food handling safety.

If you want comprehensive trans health Care, a liveable wage, plus a PENSION that WILL give you the down payment on a house, and way less racism, go work for Trader Joe's.

Source: I was a Starbucks shift supervisor for two years (2003-2005) and I worked at trader Joe's for 6+ years. TJs isn’t flawless by any means, but, as a corporation, they paid better and were less intrusive into people’s bodies and private lives.

Please, PLEASE examine whether or not Starbucks is touting their health care because they are trying to enforce a binary "passing" paradigm and generally being truscum. Because this corporation WILL write you up for having an uncovered hand tattoo or more than two earrings per ear, so I can only imagine what they’d do to people who don’t embrace a binary gender paradigm.

If an Afrodescendant trans person who works for Starbucks can get free electrolysis, but cannot wear their natural hair because it “violates dress code as well as food handling safety regulations”, I’m gonna have additional questions.

Especially from a company known to call the cops on black customers for “loitering”, and who didn’t open any locations in historically black neighborhoods until Magic Johnson shamed them publicly and fronted millions of dollars in 1999 (https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/09/how-magic-johnson-got-starbucks-ceo-howard-schultz-to-partner-with-him.html).

Yes there is no ethical consumption under late stage capitalism, but Starbucks has fully replaced Coca Cola as THE symbol for yt corporate American global cultural imperialism.

No I am not mad at ppl who take jobs to get healthcare. SURVIVAL FIRST. That’s actually in Leviticus, in case people need that level of weird scriptural justification to treat each other well.

My beef is first foremost and always with corporations that treat their workers like walking billboards.

Using the bodies of historically marginalized workers, such as trans workers, as human shields against accountability is wrong 💯.

Get the health care.

But don’t be fooled by corporate philanthropy or perceived benevolence.

None of us are free until all of us are free.

*Starbucks business expansion plan has always looked like this:

1. Use big corporate money to flood a city with locations, “creating jobs”

2. Use big corporate money to keep underperforming locations open until SBUX has edged out local coffee shops.

3. Close half of the locations, firing all those employees

4. “Lol, f*** all those people we hired, we actually created a net loss of jobs by forcing out independent coffee shops and creating a corporate monoculture”

Now SBUX is doing it with trans workers

If you want to know why all of a sudden Starbucks is trying to “reach out” to marginalized workers, here it is:

They lost so much money during the pandemic/lockdown that they’re hurting. And they’re about to do another expansionist push (https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/09/business/starbucks-store-openings/index.html)

They need workers. But these will probably not be permanent jobs, given SBUX record of “flood and fold” (see above).

If you’re a trans worker: Get the healthcare. Survive. Thrive. Look good doing it.

SYNTHESIS

Adore You is all about the other person. There is no selfishness, which is sometimes present in Harry's other lyrics; no jealousy or other heaviness of any kind. It's Harry, once again, celebrating love. He's patient for his hesitant lover, once again, but he'll scream his feelings from the rooftops in the meantime.

The mv paints a picture of Harry as a "peculiar boy" and is a queer narrative if I've ever seen one. Someone who is bright and colorful, which makes him stand out so much that his surroundings shut him out. It starts off very dark, with Harry ready to step into the ocean. The fish wants to achieve the same end, and does so by launching himself out of the water. The peculiar boy gets distracted from his own plan in order to save the fish, and so the positive effect of finding the fish/his person is shown as even more dramatic and life-changing. This person threw Harry's life around and the two of them lived in a small part of paradise together after finding each other in a dark time in both of their lives. Without realising it, they influenced the people in town, changing their lives for the better. The fish clearly loved the boy, but kept growing bigger and bigger. I see this as the boy and the fish strengthening each other: the boy has found purpose and beauty in life, and the fish grows and grows into his full capacity. The town still is not fully welcoming, however, and everything takes a turn when the fish sees another fish getting beheaded. This is when the boy puts the fish back in the ocean, with the help of the people in town. The fish swims off, and the boy decides to follow him, sailing off. He turns his frustration (his screams into the jars) into the force that drives him forward, following happiness (the fish, freedom, new opportunities). Also, yes, the references to tired tired sea, a famous fic, or a children’s book of a particular name, are not unseen, but i will be discussing this at a later stage.

Harry said the song definitely wasn't about an unrequited love or yearning from afar (howard stern, don't watch that interview bc the guy sucks), but that it was about those first feelings of love after meeting someone. "Take me!"

This mv and song paint the picture further of Harry wanting to tell the story of their love, from the beginnings to current day. Once again, he gives us some very obvious clues about sexuality, and then continues to serenade the love of his life. His own love story is so incredible to him (”would you believe it?”) that it’s his favorite story to tell over and over again. I’m here for it. I think we all are. We’re still in the beginning of fine line and he’s only at the part where they’ve just met and are insanely infatuated.

Hmmmmm, where will the story go from here, I wonder? Luckily, Harry didn’t stop writing songs after this one so we’ll find those answers soon.

Summary: Kneeling down, Tony lifted Peter to his feet by his shoulders instead of pulling him up by his arm. As soon as the teenager was standing, Tony was fussing over him, grabbing a clean rag (now conveniently wet from the sprinklers) from a nearby table and wiping the wet cloth over Peter's face to clean the ash off and make sure none of it had somehow made its way into his eyes behind the safety goggles.

Tony was damn grateful that he had become so much more careful when it came to lab safety after he had started working with Peter so often.

Used to Tony's automatic fussing, Peter took a moment to assess himself for any pain or irritation, knowing Tony would ask him as soon as he calmed slightly.

A moment later the man did just that.

"Were you hurt? I heard your cry when you landed. What's wrong with your arm? Did you inhale any of the smoke?"

I’d be lost at a party w nomi’s family and I’d feel SAFE

For some reason back then I thought the nine to be more of emotionally distant or turbulent folk. It seemed like a lot of early death and strife what with nomi’s parents dying early, the younger siblings going off doing their own thing, and the older two being reluctant pseudo-parents (not to mention the complicated stuff between daiku and nomi which seems like a whole different can of worms) I guess I had the impression of a ‘family that wasn’t ever the same’ kind of estranged distance where they only really spent time together for ninja/family duty’s sake, and that the portrait was a rare occasion the kids all genuinely came together for one time. Anyways old etn analysis aside, lots of buzz for nomi’s family — how about randy? Any character arc in general for our sweet rowdy boy?

(ALSO SORRY but can u elaborate on nomi’s scars and tattoo for fanart purposes :0c I’ve been drawing them off the whole time then aa)

Ajdjsjkajdshshjks, I don't know, Naru and the twins would be looking for easy pranking prey.... So, maybe stick to Yui or Daiku just to be safe 😂

Oh, don't let these head canons fool you LOL. Not everyone got along and things are far from perfect between the Norisu family. Funny enough, I'm not a huge lover of angst, even if I'm good at dishing it out here and there, but I wanted these head canons to be fun and not riddled with unbearable angst lmao.

But also, I think people tend to paint death and loss as a deep well of sadness, when in reality, death is different for everyone. How it affects people, and how they might cope with it is different. For Nomi and their younger siblings, the death of their parents was a tragedy, but none of them were really alive long enough to grasp that pain. Especially, the twins who were babies.

Compare that to Daiku, Yui, and Nobuyuki who knew Naomi and Daisuke. Now for them it does hit a lot harder, and that pain has caused a profound change in all of them. Daiku became determined to protect everyone, he became colder and more dedicated to his duties, he pushed most of the family away, and he tends to keep his feelings under lock and key. Yui did everything she could to take care of her siblings, forgoing her own grief to try and be there for others. Meanwhile, Nobuyuki had to swallow the pain he felt to keep the family together, continue to uphold duties, aid the village, etc.

They weren't estranged necessarily, but the family was definitely changed.

Oho, there are a few character arcs I have in store for Randy that I can't wait to dive into and explore. One of them involves Theresa and confronting his own feelings 👀

Another, and this one isn't really a secret since of ETN was heading in this direction anyway, and so this arc focuses on Randy learning to be a ninja without the Ninja mask. :)

There's another arc that focuses on him and Howard, but I'll keep this one under wraps still 😉

I haven't had the chance to design ANYTHING. Nomi has scars on their back, but I haven't gotten the opportunity to really map them out ajsjdjshhd.

However, I do have some inspiration on what Nomi’s tattoo may look like. It’d be huge, spanning across their entire back in red ink. The design would probably combine the rings on the Nomicon’s book cover, the Sorcerer’s lock seal and the protective seal for Plop Plop. But instead of cranes, it has a dragon. So, no solid designs for any of this. Sorry about that! 😅

Maybe if I have time, I’ll draw some fanart and maybe reveal what’s so special about these tattoos 😉😉😉😉😉

Samia Flaunts a Marked Evolution on ‘Scout’ [Q&A]

Like the majority of us, Samia’s pretty over 2020. One spring day, we were all living our lives until everything was brought to a halt. Jobs were paused, nightlife was turned off, social distancing was enforced, and songwriters lost inspiration. I mean, how much can one write about staying in on a Friday night and binging Tiger King? Because difficult times were so omnipresent, it was especially exciting when good news came around. Scout is one such piece of good news—a demonstration of how Samia used this time of uncertainty to search out positivity in unlikely places and show gratitude to her loved ones, peers, and themselves.

Scout is comprised of four songs that were written by Samia during a “period of growth and reflection,” showcasing “a less desperate” version of her debut album, The Baby. If her intimate lyrics weren’t enough, you will be blown away by her powerful vocals that will simultaneously bring both tears to your eyes and a smile to your face.

In the first single, “Show Up,” Samia’s lyrics can be taken quite literally. She reminisces on pastimes with friends and family and sings, “Nothing could ever stop my ass from showing up / to sing another song for the people I love.” This upbeat indie-rock single gives you a sneak peek into Samia’s mind. In the official music video, we see Samia rocking her wired headphones while dancing, like no one's watching, behind a flashing montage of her with her loved ones.

We had the pleasure of sitting down (virtually) with Samia to discuss her new EP, how she spent this past year, some insightful life advice, and what to expect from live shows.

Ones To Watch: For those who may not know, who is Samia?

Samia: Pathetic enneagram type 2, loves to dance, very excited about bodies of water, learning to coexist with bugs.

Being a New York native, how has the environment affected your music?

I got a lot of experience almost immediately when I moved to New York. There were so many opportunities to perform and learn from other songwriters. That community taught me everything and scared me into some level of confidence.

You stated that your new EP Scout is the older sister version of your debut, The Baby. What has changed from this EP compared to your debut and what messages do you want your listeners to take away from this new chapter?

I wrote Scout during a real period of growth and reflection. It’s definitely less desperate than The Baby because there was so much turmoil all around us last year that it felt senseless to dramatize my own pain. I was working on/thinking a lot about gratitude and trying to believe in positive ideas. I hope Scout can help support anyone who’s in a similar position.

Why did you choose “Show Up” as the first single?

It’s the most fun!!

What does your writing process look like and how did it differ during quarantine?

Songs came slowly last year. The songs on the EP are pretty much the only ones I wrote during 2020. It just felt like so much was happening immediately and no one had time to make sense of our reactions to it all, so I had to write differently. I generally write about my own experience and most often in periods of transition, so I had to work a little harder being stuck in the same place for so long.

Is there a piece of advice that has stuck with you?

My favorite quote/mantra is something Jim Carrey said in Jim & Andy. I used to get so nervous on stage about what people would think of me, but it was so liberating to start considering that being up there was my greatest opportunity to have a positive effect on someone else’s life. He said, “The purpose of my life has always been to free other people from concern.” If you appear to be accepting yourself at that moment, you’re liberating your audience and encouraging them to enjoy their time and accept whatever they’re feeling.

Are there any artists (or people in general) that have inspired your unique sound?

Angel Olsen, Father John Misty, Okay Kaya, Liz Phair, Wilco, Elliott Smith, Nirvana, Brittany Howard, my friends!

What was the funniest or craziest fan interaction you’ve encountered?

Someone came up to me the other day and just lifted up their sleeve to reveal the most beautiful triptych tattoo of vignettes from the whole album. It was so cool.

I see that you have acted in the past. Have you taken what you’ve learned from acting and incorporated it into your music?

The best thing I learned from acting was using sense memory exercises. It really helps bring me back to the feeling when I’m performing the same songs over and over again.

I love that you covered “The Promise” by When In Rome… is there a backstory on how you landed on that song?

It’s one of my favorite songs and I’ve always loved playing it for myself on piano, but I thought it would be funny to try and keep it as close to the original as possible. Selfishly, I also just wanted to hear Jelani sing it because I’m such a big fan.

You have a busy touring season coming up, how excited are you to get on the road after a year without live music? What can your fans expect from your live performances?

I’m so excited!!! I’m just so happy to be playing these songs for the first time and seeing faces! It’s gonna be fun!

Boston College is on the T's Green Line. MIT is on the Red. The two lines meet at the Park Street Station, and so will Steve and Tony.
