‘I’m not unhappy. I’m just not quite ready to be happy.’ - @91cmspoilers
Downton Abbey Season 4 Sentence Starters - No Longer Accepting!
She hadn't intended on a philosophical conversation. Not so soon after Miss Yukizome had finished her lesson for Class 77-B that day, at least. Homeroom sessions tended to give Sonia the most to think about: while private tutoring sessions in her designated laboratory were likely deemed the most useful, it was the common classroom experience that both simultaneously made her head swim and heart full. It felt like a dream most of the time, a group of friends so entirely unconcerned with what she was. But there were so many regular, everyday things she needed explained, it seemed never-ending, a normal education.
And she thrived on it, all of it. Until, after stopping briefly at the campus vending machine, she noticed a boy with long hair and a suit she didn't recognize in the Main Campus courtyard. It didn't match the sort of uniform she was accustomed to at Hope's Peak Academy. She surmised he must have been a part of another class, or he would've been shooed away by the staff. Still, she hadn't hesitated to approach him: to Sonia, he appeared to be rather down about something and it couldn't hurt to ask if he was all right. Sometimes, she thought, that was just what someone needed: not a tangible thing, but to be assured that someone noticed them in times of trouble.
"You are not ready to be happy?" She repeated, blonde eyebrows raised in confusion. It was a perplexing situation: the only way she could comprehend it was if the boy was suffering from a mental or emotional malaise. Problems best sorted by therapists. There was no shame in that, she visited one herself. "Oh my, I am sorry about that. That seems quite distressing. But, if you do not mind the suggestion of a stranger, I think choosing to be happy is one of the most wonderful gifts you can give yourself. I think it is easier to do so when you have family and friends whom you love in your life, and you wish to do your best by them."
Maybe that was overstepping the mark. Sonia wasn't sure, but if she were in his shoes, that would be what would realign her mind into a more positive outlook. Barring that, well, she had another idea: two others, actually. "But if it is a challenge right now to remember those who love you, then I recommend these," She smiled, rifling through her school bag before she retrieved the items she was looking for: a bar of Novosonian chocolate and a bottle of black milk tea, still chilled from the vending machine she'd just bought it from. She held both out to him, giving him both her snacks and a smile. "Chocolate and tea. They help me when I am feeling sad, and serve as excellent after school snacks. I think you are in greater need of them than me."
