Drew a younger version of Terry from DQM. Haven't played the game for myself, but someone I chat with over on Discord that we share a mutual interest on Dragon Quest told me his opinion on this game (superior that Pokemon, I'll take that and trust him). Ofc both of us are hyped for DQM: TDP

I decided to make Terry a shiny Ralts (evolves into Gallade when he gets older). His sister, Milly, is a shiny Kirlia (evolves into Gardevoir when she gets older). I was thinking about making them a pair of Espurr/Meowstic or Eevee(lutions), but I decided to try something different with them.

Also as an added bonus, this was my first drawing on ibisPaint X that I wanted to send here cause why not

I suppose I should revisit my Kittymore post here! It's about time, with all the new Mortamors we've seen lately, plus Twitter is self-destructing and Tumblr is just easier to make these kinds of posts with.

Alright, super long post coming up!

Mortamor has long been a favorite of mine, and that comes mostly from his menacing aura -- ah, who am I kidding, he looks like a kitty!

Here I'm gonna rate all the Mortamors solely on their kitty-tasticness!

Artwork (Original)

Official Art Kittymore! The start of a legend! He has his whiskers and those feline eyes too, an absolutely phenomenal artwork! Unfortunately, Akira Toriyama didn't draw him from any other angles, leading to many disagreements on how he should LOOK when seen from any other direction. You'll see what I mean later on.

5/10 kitten pets! Respectable, but it's hard to rate his kitten power with just a head-on look! I need angles! I need to see his kitty muzzle!

Dragon Quest 6 (SNES)

The first in-game look at Kittymore! The sprite is phenomenally cute and very scritchable, unfortunately it suffers from the same problem as the artwork, albeit not as much because the animations of the sprite show some muzzle cuteness...though not as much as I would like.

6/10 nose boops!

I can't...really see what's going on with that sprite, but the little tiny sprite above his status is really cute and silly-looking!

3/10 face scritches! I like the tiny sprite or it would be lower sfhkkjs

Yet another stagnant sprite, the detail here SHOULD give him a little more of the kitten-tasticness that he deserves...unfortunately, more detail isn't always better. The original SNES sprite looked far more likely to claw up my bedpost, while I see very little of that desire in this sprite.

3/10 kitten treats for my kitten overlord!

A full model means we get to see our beloved meowing monster king from the sides! And how does he look?

REALLY SCARY. He looks less like my evil demon kitty-kitty demanding pets and more like some kind of eldritch horror! This was my first introduction to Mortamor, actually, and when I first saw him...I didn't know WHAT he was, just that I needed him sffsshkls unfortunately, nostalgia doesn't negate the truth.

0/10 chin scratches. There is no kitty in that soulless stare.

Dragon Quest 9

This model has honestly grown on me over the years. And, due to being another model, we can see how he looks from the side too!

Not bad! Very pettable, I already feel sharp pains in my leg from all the kneading I can tell he's thinking of doing! For the limitations of the DS, this is very nice!

6\10 kitty bleps! Could be kittier, but not bad at all!

WHERE IS HIS KITTY MUZZLE? HIS KITTY WHISKERS ARE WAY TOO DROOPY AND HIS EYES FOR THE FIRST TIME DON'T EVEN LOOK KITTY-LIKE!!

Slightly better, but he should look fully kitten the WHOLE time, not just during a few animations!

2/10 paw-pad rubbies! Absolutely disappointing!

I'm about halfway done playing Dragon's Quest VI, and I have a handle on the vocation system now. Might do an analysis of the game, since they'll be better when the game is fresh in my mind, but I want to do at least DQIII first to pick apart how the Dragon Quests with vocations evolved.

It occurred to me though that DQVI is a great example of a game that tries to sell an idea I also want to sell in my own DRPG. I didn't play it for research, I just wanted to, but in DQVI, you start with some vocations at first, but the advanced vocations are like combinations of lower ones. For example, the Paladin requires you master the Priest and Martial Artist first, Sage is a Mage/Priest, Gladiator is a Warrior/Martial Artist, etc.

There's a limited version of this in Dragon's Dogma where with three vocations, there's a "second level", though the clases are not prereqs for one another, but conceptually the Advanced and Hybrid vocations are classes combined with another class, or itself again.

I also remember always seeing these fan-made class trees on Fire Emblem boards, they always stuck in my child brain for some reason (turns out they were all made by DarkMatter122 @ DeviantArt):

So, between these examples and D&D multiclass builds, I've long loved the idea of mashing together RPG classes, classifying them, figuring out what the difference mechanically is between a wizard, a mage, a sage, a sorceror, and how many roles you can make before making the system redundant. How narrowly can a class deliver it's class fantasy while still having a niche, a reason to include that character in your party?

I was inspired to start work on my game after playing Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, and my game will also involve recruiting many party members and combining their skillsets to make new ones, but instead of monsters, I wan't to have the units represent RPG character archetypes, or builds. Whether it looks like fusion in SMT or some other method of skill inheritance remains to be seen, but I have some ideas.

anyways im sitting in my eye doctors office and i can feel my pupils dilating and my vision slowly getting blurrier but i want to make my 2023 recap post abt my year n the shit i was doing

this post is mostly gna be abt games i beat bc thats what i talk abt most on this blog lol but first

- went on my first vacation with my beautiful beautiful wife @sarahmacbitch and there will be many more

- finished and started my 2nd and 3rd years of university respectively

- completed the most brutal university semester yet (passed all classes i have marks for so far)

- got 2 swag jobs (1 of which i hope to return to next summer bc i slayed at it)

- and spent the whole year loving my beautiful beautiful wife @sarahmacbitch with all my heart

but its Game Time now bc i played and beat a lot of games lol
