I’ve been re-reading some of my favourite HP fics as I wait for HL to come out, and I love how you can tell which house the author is in based on how they’re ‘fix-it’ fic goes:
Gryffindor
- Massive, Avengers-style epic final showdown between Voldie and Harry
- Golden Trio + Neville
- “Harry no-” “Harry YES!”
- Harry Potter / Ron Weasley have absolutely zero impulse control and it’s giving Hermione high blood pressure
- Weasley Twins! Weasley Twins!
- The Order is like 60% Weasley it’s basically gingers against fascism
- Dumbledore is powerful but angry Minera McGonagall is terrifying
- Sirius Black has more than five minutes of screentime.

Of course, as with everything in his life when he activates it in the Shrieking Shack he doesn’t go where he hoped, or even how he hoped. He does discover he has a mate, though.

Summary: Severus stopped in front of the shelf where they keep their own personal stash of potions. He reached for a contraceptive potion. He invented this variation solely for himself, entirely catered to his own body, eliminating the known side-effects of the other commercial contraceptives in circulation. For years, the potion worked efficiently. Perhaps tonight, there wouldn't be any need for it.

The arrival area had changed since the Dementors' banishment, modified now for human occupation. It had been empty before: a dark room with a smouldering fire, walls shining with wet, and a cavernous hallway yawning into the prison's depths. Now, there were cheap folding chairs and a threadbare rug. A modest fire crackled in the hearth, across from which sat a reception desk. It was manned by a paunchy wizard with a receding hairline. The name R. Kluss was picked out in uneven white stitching on the chest of his black robes.
Only when Draco cleared his throat did Kluss look up from the most recent edition of Wizard's Quarterly magazine.
At least he was a subscriber.
"Yeah?"
"Draco Malfoy here to see Lucius Malfoy."
Kluss turned back to his magazine, unimpressed. "You have an appointment?"
"No."
He flipped a page. "I'll need to check with management."
Azkaban's reforms had been widely publicised by Kingsley Shacklebolt's government. The campaign had ultimately failed to change the prison's reputation from one of extreme deprivation to one of humane captivity, but it had been educational. As a former resident and current stakeholder, Draco had paid close attention to the prison's updated procedures and policies.
"Appointments aren't needed for approved visitors." Draco aimed for patience but landed somewhere near condescension. It was bad enough to be back here at all; it was worse to be confronted with pointless bureaucracy.

Unfortunately, I didn’t publish anything in 2022, and I also haven’t really been writing anything at all for over a year now. I know it’s just one of those things - life stuff, taking a break from writing - but sometimes I get down about it. As I said, I’ve not written much of anything at all in the past year or so, lol. But these are snippets from WIPs I still have an attachment to and hope to return to at some point in time. Most of them don’t have set-in-stone titles yet, so I’ve just left descriptors in the parentheses!
I’d also like to note that I, uh.......write pretty non-linearly most of the time, haha! So very few of these (if any at all) are actual first lines for these stories. More likely just whichever random line happens to be at the very top of the doc currently.
