Me and my colleagues had a theory recently that the British industry likes to categorize actors a bit too tightly, and the theatre lot are seen as quite serious and stuffy. It's a chip on their shoulder that they think Olivier winners think they are better than Bafta winners for no reason other than how the UK class system works.

I have literally heard people declare AS, MS, and DT will never be seen as movie stars because they are Shakespeare-types. That is why AS wasn't Bafta nominated this year, and they were so shocked he should be funny in Fleabag. This is why their minds were blown by Fiennes being funny in Hail Cesar and TGBH.

This probably doesn't make sense, but I am sure I will be heavily insulted for it, either way.

Dude you don’t have to use the R slur?! No one called you that. No one called you any name at all or said you don’t have a point. I simply said that’s an interesting insight into how the British industry thinks about actors but it does not quite strictly play out in the way I have seen actors awarded by the major British awards. How are you a critic if you can’t take mild disagreement.

Unless you’re also the person who described people having a fun discussion as people having “incipient aneurisms.” In which case you need to just find more fun and less aggro ways to express yourself or you will never have friends

12 Months of Shakespeare: Hamlet (2009)

Finally watched Hamlet with DT and Patrick Stewart!

- DT is so young there, at the beginning there seems to be a lot of similarity with his delivery of Benedick there, in his more vulnerable moments, then once spoke to the ghost you cab suddenly see the decisiveness and mad understanding and formulation of a plan come through, which is quite reminiscent of the Doctor and frankly a little scary.

- The scene where he scorns Ophelia is so sad... Apart from the obvious compassion for Ophelia and sadness for Hamlet, it made me think how an old man's meddling into the affairs of his daughter and the Prince has actually robbed him of the solutions to a lot of problems. Had Hamlet been allowed to develop a deeper bond with Ophelia, he would have probably come to her not just to say goodbye as he embarked on his quest, but to actually talk to her. He would have been able to share his worries with her and the story would have been a very different one, likely that of conspiracy. Or maybe she would have managed to get him to reconsider (although, I do think it unlikely). Her marriage prospects were quite good, but now the Prince has repeatedly told her to go to a nunnery, so again, not amazing news for the father who probably would have quite liked her to be Queen. Point is: don't meddle into other people's love affairs!

- The way in which Hamlet talks to his school 'friends' vs his actual friend is stunning... the difference is so obvious, it seems like you can see his heart breaking from betrayal in real time.

-DT in a crown. Damn, he is stunning! He wears one in Richard II, he puts one on in Hamlet and while he looks exceptionally royal / princely these are two very different qualities to it, the mood is different, the characters are very different and so the impression of DT in the crown while always amazing is so different. The only thing in common is the undertone of fragility in both roles, I think this is really makes the delivery. In fact, it is perhaps what makes DT such a good actor: you can feel that internal softer core, that fragility in his roles. It may be closer to or further from the surface, but it is always there, and god, it makes me want to cry.

- Patrick Stewart is acing it too as the Ghost and the King's brother. His acting style is quite different, but what he does with his eyes... wow.

- When Ophelia goes mad after the death of her father... it is silly, really, but I have never thought of it as a parallel / mirror. They are both striken by grief at the death of their murdered fathers, but their approaches to dealing with it are different: Hamlet seeks to right the wrongs, his anger and despair is not so much for his father, but for the way his memory is treated by those he thought loyal. For Ophelia it is just grief, she has noone to lean on, no action she wants to persue, she goes mad with it... again, back to the point of having someone close on whom she could lean would have made her story so different.

- Hamlet and Horatio - I really liked the dynamic there

- It is silly that having seen multiple Hamlets over the years I always forget how exactly it ends. Somehow this again was a surprise (as in, I knew that Hamlet dies, I was just surprised that so does everyone else!)

Overall, I really liked it, certainly one of the best productions I have ever seen. It was touching and again, surprising how much it made me feel, given that I know the play and have seen it before. The acting was phenomenal, the staging... I am still unclear how they filmed it and what it looked like in the theatre, but it doesn't matter, I enjoyed it a lot. A definite 9/10, maybe even 9,5.

David Tennant's Obscure Performances: His Involvement with Read Not Dead (pt 1) - Edward III

A lot of you are aware that for the better part of a decade I've done research on David's early Scottish theatre work (80s/90s). I've found a ton of info and am in slooooow development on a podcast aimed at sharing my discoveries. But not ALL my research lands squarely in those years. I've learned about plenty of DT's theatre projects which fall outside of the years my podcast covers. So it occurred to me - since I'm not planning to do a podcast about those years, why not share some interesting tidbits? Let's dive in! By January of 1999, David was living in London and beginning a two month run at the Almeida's Albery Theatre as Pavel in Vassa (a comic portrait of a powerful iron-willed matriarch who sees her family destroyed by the very values that she seeks to preserve.) So he was busy, yes? Not busy enough, apparently, because he agreed to join thirteen other actors to do a one-off staged reading of a play often attributed to Shakespeare as a co-writer - called Edward III.

Edward III was part of a series of performances the Education Department of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre had been doing since the early 1990s called Read Not Dead (heretofore referred to as RND). Their website has this to say about their mission: "Read Not Dead is a multi-decade project run by Shakespeare’s Globe, one in which we plan to perform every single ‘unknown’ play that has survived in print, from the accession of Queen Elizabeth I in 1558, to the closing of the theatres in 1642. Some plays from history deserve to be read, not dead." (By the by, RND is still active today! I encourage you to read more about their mission and the plays they've performed by going to the Read Not Dead website.) Performing in an RND play was a unique challenge for an actor. RND performances were staged readings, so actors didn't do the traditional rehearsals. Instead, they received scripts only a few days ahead of the performance. The project's website explains it like so: "The rules of the project have always been simple, experimental, and completely unique. Whilst approaching one individual play, the group does so within one single day. In the morning, the company meets for the first time and throughout the day they work with a Director and experiment with props and costume. Often music is also composed within the short time-frame, too. By the afternoon, the play is put up on its feet and presented as a script-in-hand performance to a live audience." Additionally, most RND plays were performed on Sundays (traditionally the only day off for most performing actors in the theatre circuit, this made the full day's preparation possible.) These challenges almost certainly appealed to David for a number of reasons: 1) it was a one-off performance with a tight schedule, 2) we all know how he feels about Shakespeare, and 3) the Globe! When an opportunity came for him to play a role in or around that great structure, certainly one imagines he sprung at the chance! So on 21 February 1999, David played the role of Edward, Prince of Wales (aka the Black Prince) at the Globe Theatre Education Centre/Inigo Jones Theatre. The performance was on a Sunday - that day, the group met at 10a for a run-through, and at 3p they went onstage. It was directed by Clive Brill (who - fun fact - has since worked with David on many things, including the radio dramas The Order of Release, The Island, Murder in Samarkand, The Purple Land, and the two part Afternoon Play series Stevenson in Love). This performance was recorded, and I've actually listened to it! (sadly, the audio is only of the first two acts - for some reason, Acts 3 and 4 are missing.) I found it quite well done, especially considering the short amount of time the company of actors had to rehearse. You can listen to the recording of the performance and others from the series, as the recordings are archived in the Globe Archive and Library in London. Access to the archive is available by appointment only for professionals and academics affiliated with institutions of higher education.

Now.....some astute DT fans might be aware that while Edward III was the first time DT worked with the RND project, it wouldn't be his last. Very true! He was to go on and work with the project three more times. We'll explore those in more detail in future posts.

I've been thinking (and watching the cutscenes for 6.55) I think that "it's Shakespearen" from the BAFTA Video is two ways:

He's talking about the language (most of FFXIV is sometimes using older English). Like what we think of when we think of Urianger and the weird "thus, thine" uses in the game. And partly some of the morality and political conflict does feel like that. or and the death for plot device.

But also: IF THIS HAS BEEN DONE WITH THE DAWNTRAIL SCRIPTS KNOWN TO THE CAST

Dawntrial has a bit of a hint of King Lear - from what we know so far.

So ignoring the Scion/Eorzea storylines for this. In King Lear (from the one time I watched it/ Wikipedia summary of it people coming from other lands isn't a thing/ the whole scion spitting up.

Wuk Lamat tells us she is one of four claimants to the throne; with her and her brother being 2 of them. But she also mentions Konana (one of the other contestants as implied) is "my second older brother" implying there's at least three children of the Dawn servant). One of these claimants is (according to Wuk) completely unsuitable to rule and is "war mongering" - and saw the fall of Garlemald as a land to conquer.

We (as outsiders) are also encouraged to help the contestants.

I don't know why, but there's something about this picture that convinces me Crowley and Aziraphale had a threesome with Mr. Burbage. (I mean, "And what does your friend think?" was obviously foreplay, so...it could happen.) In particular, I keep picturing the moment right after the threesome has ended, with Aziraphale and Crowley watching Mr. Burbage sleep on the bed Aziraphale miracled in for the occasion. He's sipping a cup of cocoa while Crowley demonically smokes a ham (instead of a cigarette):

Aziraphale: "I think we rather tired him out, don't you?"

Crowley: "Yes, well that happens when you Eiffel Tower a human. They tend to go a bit wobbly in the leg bits."

Aziraphale: "Crowley, what's an 'Eiffel Tower?'"

En Garde! Kate Bishop Pt 5 | Kate Bishop x Gn!Reader

In seventh grade, your school put on a mock version of Romeo and Juliet on the very stage that you stood now. Of course, it was quieted and child-friendly, as child-friendly as one could make a tragedy about star-crossed lovers stumbling over Shakespeare’s prose. You were perfectly content with staying behind the scenes, painting the sets, and directing the spotlights for your theatre credit.

It seemed so big and stretching then and nothing short of intimidating. Kate had claimed the part of Juliet Capulet and you had won stage manager. Of course, it fell down to the two of you to carry the show, your hidden rivalry not so hidden and your perseverance cutting the work in half for everyone else who hadn’t memorized all the lines of the greatest love story every written, or so you thought.

You stood in the wings now, watching as Miss Maxine strutted through the warm stage lights and tapped her microphone a few times. A thrill ran through you that you hadn’t experienced in a long while, a remembrance of the moment before the first lines of the play had begun all those years ago.

Kate smiled fondly at you, speaking in a low whisper “Just like we practiced, right?”

“Of course,” You dramatically draped your palm over your chest “A true servant to the theatre does not deviate from their script.”

She scoffed and nudged you with her shoulder. The glow from the stage shaded the side of her face, masking her features, catching her stare as she focused on the woman in front of you both. She talked with animation, and much like you had as a teenager, people listened.

“Fencing has been a staple at our school for as long as it’s been operating. I’m sure many of you have seen the awards, have congratulated your classmates on their own efforts.” There was a terseness to her voice, something that made you believe the current troop wasn’t measuring up to your own. “Since there have been no volunteers for this years season, we’ve rounded up two alumni that not only participated in Fencing, but carried out its greatest accomplishments.”

That was your cue, and while you had always dreaded them, you forced yourself to move onto the stage. You could see acene filled faces in the first couple rows, dressed in their powder blue polo shirts and khaki pants, the occasional blazer. Past that it was darkness, and bright lights that you had to blink to suffocate.

Your palms were suddenly moist, and you resisted the urge to wipe them on your jeans. Instead, you took the microphone that Miss Maxine thrust into your grasp, setting down the bag of equipment.

You cleared your throat awkwardly “Hi,”

Kate worked her hand through her hair and took the microphone off your hands. She had an ease in front of the audience that you couldn’t hope to possess. Kids, you could handle. If you fucked up in front of them it was easy enough to guide them to a different topic, but teenagers- they made your stomach drop. You would purposely cross to the other side of the aisle at a store just to avoid them.

“My name is Kate Bishop, and this is Y/N Y/L/N. If we look familiar, it’s because we’re on nearly every wall in this place.” She sighed into the microphone, walking back and forth on the little bit of stage that allowed her to do so. You fought the urge to roll your eyes at how comfortable she was. The people you could see leaned forward with interest.

 “Fencing may look as dull as the foils we use, but it was introduced as a militant training tactic in the early 15th century before becoming an enjoyable sport that anybody could participate in. Spain, Germany and Italy stake their claim on it’s introduction, but either way- if you’ve ever wanted to learn to sword fight, to wield a weapon of power, fencing is your sport.”

You reached down and unzipped the duffel bag and pulled out the two sabers that you had brought along with you. Not only was in the most light weight but it also looked the coolest, felt the nicest. With a trust that you had built over the years, you threw Kate her own weapon. She caught it with ease and a cocky smile.

“Every cool fight scene that’s on the silver screen is based on fencing.” She spoke evenly into the mic, you advanced on her. She didn’t’ turn her attention from the audience, instead, timing her movement to block your own. There was a sharp clink, and you held your stance. “Pirates, royalty, the occasional superhero. They all learned everything they know from fencing techniques.

Again, you moved quickly and with ease. The instrument moved quickly against Kates who had finally turned to focus her attention on you. She kept the mic in her non-dominant hand, stepping close. Each hit you blocked with your own, coming close to pressing the tip of the foil against her throat. You stopped short, lilting her chin up with the tip.

“Fencing is a valiant sport,” She panted into the microphone as you lowered your weapon from her throat.

“Will we learn from you?” Someone shouted from the back, voice echoing.

“Maybe,” Kate said, tossing her foil back at you. “You need to have a team first.” 

Miss Maxine ushered herself back onto the stage. Kate readily passed her back the microphone before joining you on one side of the stage. Her hand found the small of your back and you could feel your cheeks flush at the small and steadying movement.

It was easy with her, to fall into a pattern. Her gesture made you forget about the trophy case and the moment that the two of you shared a kiss pushed up against one that showed your losses. Being back here brought memories, and also a type of warmth in the base of your stomach that you hadn’t felt in a long time.

By the time to the two of you made your way back to the car, your feet ached, and snow had begun to fall between the stretching branches of leafless trees. You had about an hour to wait before the towing company you phoned could make it out here, so the two of you climbed onto the hood of the car, putting your heels on the fender and staring at the road.

Kate shivered into herself, breath producing in front of her. You didn’t hesitate to pull the jacket form your own shoulders and drape it over her own. She frowned at you, ready to refuse. “We all know I handle the cold better than you.”

“Right,” She scoffed, but curled further into the warmth of your coat. You could have sworn she breathed in the scent, relaxing into it. “You overcame your fear of public speaking… public fighting, whatever.”

“You made it easy,” You leaned back, skin touching the cold windshield. Your eyes were heavy. It had been a long day that would pool into a longer night. The thought of ordering Thai food and curling up in your bed made a longing impression. “Seriously, I think you turned some kids onto the idea of Fencing. Maybe that means we’re off the hook with the school for a bit.”

She grunted and leaned back next to you. There were storm clouds that sprinkled you with the occasional flake of snow. They all looked the same, lumps of gray and white, and the occasional bout of blue sky.

“You were mine to, you know.”

Kate’s voice was soft, a murmur of words that you barely made out over the sound of your own breath hollow in your chest. You grimaced and glanced at her with confusion. Snow dusted her eyelashes, her hair. Her cheeks bloomed with glimpses of red in the cold. “What?”

“That night in Hillside with Tommy and America. That was my first kiss too.” There was a bit of edge to her voice, a coyness that suggested embarrassment.

You couldn’t help it, you started to laugh. The sound bubbled up and once it started it was hard to stop. Kate sat up and pushed her palm into the side of your arm, attempting to shove you off the hood of your own car. “Ow! Hey!”

“Shut up,” She smiled through her words.

“It’s not funny it’s just,” You sat up yourself, gaining composure “I thought you were the almighty master of making out. Another thing you bested me in, but you were just as blind as I was.”

“Fake it till’ you make it, Sweetheart”

“Yeah,” You sniffed from the cold “I suppose you’re right.”

Arthur: Extremely competitive and makes it hard on whatever side he's not on in the match. Disguised Toast but with a near perfect accuracy rating on detective work (DT is good but if you sit through the full streams he's not perfect). Excellent as impostor but sometimes can give himself away if the right person asks the right thing (MC: "you wouldn't lie to Vincent would you?") or if the game glitches and he can't hide that someone saw his kill through a wall. Very good at gaslighting; can almost make you believe you killed someone if you throw sus on him for being the last seen with someone who just died. Loves being imposter with Theo. He and Theo are masters of the double kill, even when on opposite sides of the map. Tends to sabotage to cover Theo'a kills. Only kills mc when it will win them the game. Mains dark blue. Bonus: uses the hunter's hat Stickmin pets.

Theo: Has no chill. When he's impostor, Arthur, mc, or Shakespeare are always the first to go, though he'll avoid putting mc in the position where it's opportune for him to kill her (he a softie). Will never kill Vincent. If you're impostors with him and Vincent is killed, he will get you voted off regardless of if it makes the crewmates win. Do not mess with his broer! As crewmate he sticks to Vincent as well, to make sure no one messes with him. It's extremely hard to get Vincent when Theo is also playing. Both loves and hates being impostor with Arthur. He and Arthur are masters of the double kill, even when on opposite sides of the map. Tends to do kills while Arthur sabotages to cover him. Mains cyan. Bonus: wears the fedora and double top hat hats and uses the dog pet. Sometimes wears the black suit set.

Vincent: One of the "worst" players because he's too nice. He doesn't like killing when he's the impostor, doesn't like voting anyone off, and doesn't like being told to choose between different players when it's down to him, another crewmate, and an impostor. Gives everyone the benefit of the doubt even when a kill happens in front of him. Always does his tasks and is almost always with Theo (unless Theo is being an impostor elsewhere). Needs to be hard carried by his teammate when he's impostor (Arthur and Theo are the only ones that are exceptionally good enough to make this really possible). Always has to tell Theo it's just a game when someone kills him and Theo wants to beat them up, even though he himself still doesn't like killing anyone and will apologize multiple times each day for at least a month if he does so. Mains yellow. Bonus: wears the angel halo.

Isaac: Good at crewmate, okay at impostor. Often sussed out quickly by Arthur or gaslighted into being thrown out when he's actually a crewmate. Papi Leonardo and Big Bro Napo-kun both tend to protect him. Always tries to kill Arthur or Dazai when he's impostor—it's either well calculated and a success or a blundering sloppy mistake that nearly everyone sees on cams on in person. Can't bring himself to kill mc because he doesn't think it's proper. He'd actually be very skilled at the game if not for Arthur and Shakespeare's mind games. Always does his tasks in the most efficient order possible, and never goes into electric by himself (or with Arthur, Dazai, or Shakespeare). Mains pink. Bonus: wears the goat horns/devil horns and hamster pet.

Dazai: He's that crewmate or impostor that will always throw sus around even when he knows someone is innocent for fun. Never does tasks unless the rest of the crew is dead and it's all on him, though this isn't consistent. If he's killed early on as impostor he'll sabotage to either help or hurt his fellow impostor depending on his mood. Tends to self report or walk over obvious bodies, leading his crewmates to think he's an impostor when he's not. Always fakes the wrong common task, but also does this as crewmate to throw off the crewmates and impostors as well. Will kill you during Simon Says task and then vent away. When partnered with Arthur they will camp sabotage areas like O2 and reactor for match-ending double kills. Goes AFK without mentioning it beforehand so people never know if he's really there or not. Mains purple. Bonus: wears the "dum" sticky note, caution sign, or toilet paper hat.

Mozart: Finds the whole game stupid but won't admit he gets really into it, especially when impostor. Will kill off every crewmate heartlessly and convince them to eject others. (Hey if he can't do it in real life...) Works surprisingly well when impostors with Isaac, despite them not necessarily working together too well in real life. Does crewmate tasks in the most efficient order based on the map and length of time it takes to do them. Never does any tasks in electrical, and will never fix lights. Mains white. Bonus: wears the surgical mask.

Napoleon: Loves being impostor with his little bro Isaac. He will protect him if crewmate and watch out for him if he's impostor, even if Isaac is not. Will always charm his way out of accusations and is good at throwing sus back at others so subtly that no one even remembers he's being accused. Gets confused on most tasks so even when he's impostor people know not to ask him what tasks he's done. Is terrible at card swipe. Always is the first to emergency areas to get them fixed and help his comrades—I mean crewmates. Never remembers to wait for his kill cool down to finish before venting into rooms with others in there already, and tends to accidentally kill without realizing the lights have been fixed. Mains black and red. Bonus: he wears the wolf ears or military uniform.

The Concept of the King’s Two Bodies in David Tennant’s 2013 “Richard II”*

*yes, I know quotations isn’t correct citation for a play. it just wouldn’t let me italicize. 

To begin, a little background on a concept:

“The King’s Two Bodies” is a concept that describes a king having separation between the self that is human and the self that is king--the “body natural” and “body politic,” respectively. It has its ties to Catholic Body-of-Christ symbolism, and it is also tied to the concept of the “birthright” that a king supposedly inherits when he is born. It’s fallen out of vogue in a lot of literary circles, but in Richard II, it is still highly relevant, as Richard is one of the final kings who ascends to the throne of his own “birthright” rather than rebellion, as is the case of his successor, Henry Bolingbroke/Henry IV. 

One can see the concept of the king’s two bodies play out quite apparently at the end of Richard’s famous “Let’s talk of graves, of worms, and epitaphs” soliloquy, especially when he says, “Cover your heads, and mock not flesh and blood / With solemn reverence; throw away respect, / For you have mistook me all this while: / I live with bread like you, feel want, / . . . subjected thus, / How can you say to me, ‘I am a king?’” (III.ii.172-178). In this scene, Richard’s sense of self tied to the crown and, by extension, his mental stability, is shaken by the death of three of his close allies. Richard says that though he is a king, there is of course some separation between King Richard and Richard the man, and in this situation, as everything is beginning to fall apart around him, he feels only as Richard the man, momentarily detached from King Richard. How can he truly be a king if Richard the man is so fallible? If he feels grief and want, what separates him from the common man? Thus, how is the same body that “[lives] with bread” the royal body? The answer: it isn’t the same body, for there is an alternate “body” that is the body politic. 

But how does this work thematically? How can a production really sell this theme and thus illustrate how King Richard’s life and sense of self falls apart? 

One great example of this is the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2013 production of Richard II. 

This one, with David Tennant in the titular role. Here’s why it’s a great example. 

David Tennant in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 2013 production of Richard II uses the prop of King Richard’s crown as a more literal version of the concept of the king’s two bodies. In soliloquies about kingly power, DT puts on the crown and takes it off, or holds it in his hands. For example, in an earlier section of the “Graves, of worms, of epitaphs” soliloquy, Richard says, “For within the hollow crown / That rounds the temples of a king / Keeps Death his court, and there the antic sits, / . . . and humoured thus, / [Death] comes at the last, and with a little pin / Bores through his castle wall, and farewell, king!” (III.ii.165-167, 173-175). And at this line, DT chucks the crown, which he has been turning about in his hands, upon the ground. 

 In a way, it is the crown, rather than the literal Richard II (or, more accurately, David Tennant as Richard II) who is the body politic, for he uses it to punctuate a “farewell” to the king. Of course, it would be ridiculous if, at the words “Farewell, king,” the actor simply jumped off the stage, but the use of the crown as a more obvious extension of the king appears in other scenes, further cementing the crown as the singular metaphor for the true “body politic.” 

The use of the crown as the metaphor for being the body politic also extends to the way the other characters treat the crown as well. For example, at the end of Richard’s soliloquy, one of his companions, the Bishop of Carlisle, reminds Richard to remember himself; this is no time for falling to pieces. To further his point, he takes the crown from where Richard has thrown it on the ground and sets it back on Richard’s head. At this point, Richard follows the Bishop’s advice and turns away from his fear and panic, and instead begins to make plans and inquire after his companions and allies. The body politic and the body natural have been reunited; Richard is king once more. 

This also extends to the way that other characters interact with the crown in their own right as well, especially when DT-as-Richard offers the crown to his successor, Henry Bolingbroke. He takes the crown off of his head and he holds the crown away from his body, offering it out to Bolingbroke. 

There’s one moment where both Richard and Bolingbroke have their hand holding a side of the crown, and it is in this final moment that the power has transferred. Bolingbroke finally wrests the crown from Richard, and thus, becomes king. At this final moment, Richard undergoes the ultimate divorce of the body natural and the body politic, more literally illustrated by the loss of the crown. 

But what does this mean? 

To me, I think this means that the transfer of power from Richard II to Henry Bolingbroke (now Henry IV) is a change in values in the throne. Richard may have had “birthright” to being king; his “body politic” was the crown that (literally) crowned him. But Richard’s successor Henry does not have the birthright, really; thus, his “body politic” and his “body natural” are just . . . his body. Yes, he participates in DT’s symbolism with the crown, but by far, Richard is the one whose beliefs and rule have so much to do with tangible artifacts like the crown and a family tree. With the departure of King Richard and of his body natural and body politic, we see a departure of the belief in the birthright and the sanctity of succession. This can be both a good and bad thing--at his ascension to the throne, Henry IV was seen as a king “for the people.” But it also can lead to civil war. With the departure of the “birthright,” we see an update in values that is a precursor to the 15th century War of the Roses, with royal families fighting for the crown and disregarding the birthright and succession that could not take place without a departure from the concept of the King’s Two Bodies. With DT’s performance of this theme in his relation to the crown prop, he propagates the theme of which Richard II is one of the final examples.

This is basically the year I discovered my love for David Tennant the most adorable Scottish beanpole in existence (almost 10 years after everyone else did, but oh well). So a lot of stuff I consumed in 2019 is related to him. Prepare for the endless praise.

It all started with Good Omens which I am absolutely in love with. After spending years in the tragic canon that is supernatural (Dean/Cas *coughs*) these ineffable dumbasses were such a breath of fresh air. There is so much fluff in this show, even though it is about the fricking Apokalypse. Bless, Neil and Terry honestly. I can’t wait to finally get my DVD for Christmas so I can binge the deleted scenes. I need more Crowley/Aziraphale being soft in my life. 

Broadchurch broke my heart and established me as a DT fangirl. The acting in this show is absolutely phenomenal. I enjoyed that this series explored how a community and individual people deal with tragedy instead of focusing narrowly on the crime itself. It fascinated me to no end. Also, Hardy yelling ‘MILLAAAAAR’ in his Scottish accent is such a meme and it amuses me to no end.

David Tennant does a podcast was hilarious and I spend many hours on my train rides listening to it. He is friends with most of the people he interviews and it gave such a warm intimate feeling to the show. There were inside jokes and just plain goofing around which is fantastic. Especially in this day and age where we experience so much pressure to be perfect and composed at all times. 

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING which is still kind of David Tennant related? A couple of months ago when I started following DT blogs this one gif kept popping up with him covered in white paint. It looked hilarious and so I ended up watching my third Shakespeare play. I came for Catherine and David and stayed for Beatrice and Benedick. I could fill pages, about these two. I don’t know how many times I have watched the 2011 play OR listened to the radio adaptation OR read my favourite scenes....  I haven’t felt this passionate over a piece of literature since I read Pride and Prejudice when I was 11. Since I mention MUCH ADO I absolutely have to give a quick shoutout to @notantherwritingblog, because she is nurturing my addiction to these characters with her brilliant fic ‘Bea and Ben: or, A College of Wit-Crackers’ which has been my favourite fic of the year. Her writing is amazing and she handles sensitive themes with such grace. Please give her a read if you want to read about the most wholesome relationship of all time.

Doctor Who yet again I am ten years late to the party, but that doesn’t mean I am not partying hard. It is lovely to see a show with several recurring female characters for once (*coughs* compared to Supernatural *coughs*). I really want to give the Doctor a hug though. It probably says enough if I mention that I just finished season 2...

I have been religiously watching youtube videos by Bernadette Banner, Drawingwiffwaffles and Kasey Golden for a couple of months now and it has inspired me a lot to be creative again. 

The book ‘Enchanté’ by Gita Trelease was bewitching. I read it at the beginning of the year and it reminded me how much I actually enjoy reading (if it is not for school). Magic and 18th century France. What do you want more?

There has got to be some angry frustrated emotions regarding PA, Harry having been caught up in this mess and how things have dragged on and out! All the hacking, invasion of privacy and just generally very poor choices in life by family members.

HMTQ gave President Trump and his huge family a real Royal welcome literally! The time spent the Formal dinner, the dinner apt the U.S. Embassy that PC and Camilla attended. It sounds like she got on well with DT, We know he takes such pride and joy in his Scottish heritage from his mum. We also know that he has great respect for HMTQ, so much so he brought his entire family with him. We also know he brought some intel/evidence with him. Thank you sir! HMTQ enjoyed him and the time they spent together!

As a reassuring loving granny, she took his hand in hers and spoke with him. No one is perfect, yeah he screwed up a few times in life, who hasn’t? This whole issue of BOJO manipulating HMTQ, now today’s paper saying he didn’t really apologize he just said regret. He is willing to squat in No. 10 if there is a non-confidence vote and he is ousted as Prime Minister. He said they will have to take him in handcuffs! They are trying to sort out who would be the new PM, Brexit deadline, and if an election it would need at least five weeks. So John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons could be interim PM. It’s all up in the air. The Queens speech to the House is to take place October 14,2019. This is her telling LG in no uncertain terms she is duty bound to do this and refuse to be dragged any further into swaying politics on either side. Her job in weekly meetings with PM , is to be informed what’s happening, offer advice but never ever tell what’s to be done!No one else will be giving her speech except her. In a previous riddle we had something about someone else delivering her speech due to health or stress issues, l can’t recall exactly.

We had Calipornia in a riddle the other day. Today it’s Cala pornia .It seems that alleged tape has risen like a Phoenix from the ashes, online, but lots of disagreement on who the female is. I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTENTION of exposing myself to that. Reminds me of my old Sunday school song, be careful little eyes what you see, ears what you hear, mouth what you say..does anyone else remember that song? Dreem -in, a play on the song California Dreaming by The Mamas and The Papas, it was redone by Wilson Phillips, daughter of Michelle Phillips, Carnie Wilson daughter of Brian Wilson, l cannot recall the third member. They were great, remember Hold On! Great music. Anyhow, l digressed, Dreem,from wiki , is a sleep device that monitors, analyzes, and claims to enhance quality of sleep. It’s a miniaturized and autonomous headband that monitors the quality of sleep and then uses sound to help fall asleep faster, get deeper sleep, and wake up at the optimal time through smart alarm. End wiki.

So we have Calapornia Dreem-in, note California is spelt Cala, either way, the sirens currently flashing loudly is this alleged sex tape online. As l speculated the meaning the other day, is she doing a runner to Cali or Cala?? There are definite spelling alterations to confuse, MM ANON🤨🧐🤔.

Is someone having great difficulty sleeping from hobbies, stress, being picked on by the big bad royal reporters? Might the sleep aid device Dreem being in use, hence the addition of in after the hyphen? To clarify a hyphen is the sign here. - It is used to connect words together so they combine their meanings.

Alternatively perhaps Harry is using this sleep aid to help him sleep. We know all the things we have noticed, weight loss, scruffy clothes/shoes, look very sleep deprived, l am sure he is suffering tremendously as he serves this tour of duty for HMTQ.

MM ANON is taking us back to Shakespeare, Hamlet’s soliloquy on suicide to deal with all that has happened in his life. Has there been suicidal ideation on part of madam or Harry? Madam l highly doubt, a narcissist never goes there except by accident. We have see a slow descent in our Harry over the last two years, Wright loss, hair loss, scruffy clothes, looks sleep deprived etc etc, adding to that, the pain he appeared to be in, stepping onto that stage in SA and her grinning like a Cheshire Cat, sorry Cheshire, at his agony. I have said numerous times now but l hope upon immediate return to London he was given medical assessment and care, as well as emotional assessment and care. I pray to God l am wrong on this, but l have been concerned. He has been under stress like l have never seen, for over two years!

A boob, slang wise has had different meanings over the generations. A boob can be a dopey goofy person, it can be a blunder or a boo boo, meaning error or mistake, it can be a term for breast. So who made a bit of a boob? I see the usage here being an error or mistake. I would say the first boob was a bootycall and then underestimating who the attacker was.

I think this could also be a cheeky reference to an alleged video online.

The saying the Real McCoy, goes back, at least for me, in the old western movies, not sure if McCoy was a brand of saddle, shotgun, something anyhow. So when someone says, it’s the real McCoy it means it’s 100% real or accurate. Here MM ANON has hyphenated the word McCoy, and elevated the word COY. Coys definition is, according to google, especially with reference to a woman) making a pretense of shyness or modesty that is intended to be alluring. Ok, interpretation, MM ANON is clearly telling us that any alleged sex/porn video is 109% accurate, correct and the actress in it, is her acting role, is acting very coyly. Yuck, l need a shower!🤮🤮🤮🤮

“ artistic lie- sense

To take artistic license is a common phrase meaning , again l will use google, as l want everyone to be able to understand who may not be familiar, “Artistic license (also known as poetic license, historical license, dramatic license, narrative license, or creative license) refers to deviation from fact or form for artistic purposes. It can include alteration of the conventions of grammar or language, or the rewording of pre-existing text.”

I have had a number of comments of appreciation from anons for being more elaborative as we have readers from all around the 🌎 🌍 world.

So example, a movie about Invention of the light bulb, let’s say, they add a romance to it, or drama , l hope l am explaining this clearly.

So here MM ANON says Artistic lie-sense, another hyphenated word. So madam as we well know has exaggerated EVERYTHING about herself, some may say lies. Her age, her number of marriages, not knowing anything about the BRF, fake pregnancy etc etc etc.

So , since this alleged sex video is the hot topic, l am thinking the acting would be very fake over dramatic moaning groaning etc etc, likely a person would, to cover past sins, would be inclined to lie about it, say it never happened or the great song by Shaggy, It Wasn’t Me!

“ not my best work”

Again another commonly used phrase especially, like me, l am so self-critical about how I type my interpretations of the riddles, typing, thinking of something after l have submitted it, or just having a bad day at it , l think l might have even wrote this here, this is not my best work.

Artists, musicians, creative people, common phrase!

So if there were an alleged tape, that proved real, one might use that phrase. A tv show might have been the pinnacle or the height of greatest work!

Time to move on and restart life. Put this information out, let the chips fall where they may. I am certain, based on the FIRST riddle today, that Harry is done, he can take no more. Oh my , how will this be handled, l for one would NOT want to , after several years of being a horrible person, want to be on the receiving end of Fleet streets vengeance! How will details , hundreds of them be told or explained to the public, all the things that have been kept secret, the public will perceive being lied to and paying for that wedding, her clothes etc etc etc. Never mind that, the bigger picture of the plot, the backers!

Fab Four, the original was the Beatles. When madam came on the scene, and video of them, working on a Heads Together, the media, not sure which, dubbed them the Fab Four. As we know their offices have separated as well as their charities also.Rumours of dodgy money being missing from the charity. They are completely separate in every way now, at least publicly, this has caused an uproar because of madam spending and the varied rumours surrounding merching, and hobbies, and other things that have been on fire today! So much beloved was Harry , everyone wanted him to have the dream of family come true. His madam is loathed, that’s putting it mildly. There is so much public distress at seeing the boys, l will forever call them the boys, break up, fight and publicly sever ties.

Remember Fleet Street, how l explained that in a riddle the other day. MM ANON, l take this as the sh** is going to hit the fan imminently, l have felt an agitation inside for several days. Will they lay bare, pun intended, EVERYTHING they have in the dossier. OH PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PULL THE HANDLE LET IT ALL SPILL OUT!! It’s time! Harry is at the end of what he can take! SO ARE WE! How this will all be done and handled l have no clue but it’s going to be earth shattering across the U.K., the Commonwealth, the EU, whilstBrexit is so precarious, and the world too. I cannot fathom how HMTQ is feeling and how and when to proceed!

So who is not to take this personally? This clue mystifies me. My head is so full, is this relating to BOJO non-apology, in that he regrets what happened with Parliament? She needs to be able to trust the PM! BOJO , according to the paper, if there is a noncon vote and he is ousted as PM, he will refuse to leave No. 10 unless in handcuffs. So, yes, BOJO HMTQ is taking it bloody personally!

Two choices, go quietly or a fight will ensue. l remember professionally saying this many times. Cooperate or things will be enforced. In this case confess, plead guilty or not guilty. Is arrest imminent, are these two choices?? Oh please , make it so, to quote Captain Jean-Luc Picard! Are the choices, leave the U.K. of face charges. I can’t see that totally but then again a lot of money laundering trials have brought down mob bosses.That song should l stay or should l go now? Is blaring through my head!!

Whose got their head in the sand on this? This is definitely PP, might he be taking a stern tone with HMTQ? Action needs to be taken imminently, the press are on the precipice of unloading a ton of very very bad things. It would be easier, although none of this will be easier, but it would be easier if HMTQ gave a public video, like Christmas Day, and as she did with Diana. If they can publicly get ahead of the media, might soften the blow. Perhaps announce a separation, then the press can go hog wild. Either way it’s going to be Annus Horibilus on steroids!!!

I know , my friend, rescued greyhounds from the racetracks in America where they were , can’t say it, but used and abused, and brought them to Canada. So I decided to watch a Shakespeare play every month this year (bonus points if it is with David Tennant) and while I re-watched my comfort watch of Much Ado About Nothing while recovering from pneumonia in January, this month I went for smth new: Richard II.

OMG, OMG!!!

It was so good, DT is of course stunning there, and the fact that the political element of the play is so relevant today nearly 430 years after it was written is simply astounding.

The famous kiss scene: it is a perfect depiction of a non-romantic kiss which is yet so tender... but when it happens you don't quite realise why it is there, and then at the end you realise what this was a reference too [spoiler below].

Overall, this was really amazing, a definite 9/10!

So, spoiler for the kiss:

Richard II kisses Omerle, and then it is Omerle who betrays him and kills him.

And it was such a clear reference to Judas' kiss, and so cleverly subverted (with Richard kissing him, as if already aware of his fate), and tbh, I was so proud of myself for catching it without any hints of explanations! I mean, for many it would be obvious, but for me it certainly shows growth in my ability to catch the biblical references in art.

And on a different note, as I feel that NG looked at that kiss and said "ooh, this is good, I'm gonna use that!", I bloody well hope he does not intend to use it in this analogy. I simply refuse to believe it (although, has this already happened, has the kiss and the killing of Crowley's heart, betrayal of their dream of a shared life already happened? So it can only get better from here (I mean, we know GO is gonna have a happy ending)

The performance that suprised me the most : I’ll go with Drostan Hynd in Call of Duty WWII Nazi Zombies. David in a CoD, that was surprising - and Drostan is a great character !

The one DVD that was the hardest to get : Doctor Who - The Complete David Tennant Years. That thing is super rare and expensive, took a lot of saving money and patience to get it !

I think that’s it !

But TBH, apart from Camping and YM&H, everything he’s done is amazing (and even in those things, it wasn’t exactly his acting that was bad. Though he does look like his soul has left his body at some points in YM&H. But well.)

AND THESE ARE PERSONAL OPINIONS, I have to insist so no one will want me dead!

It was really hard to choose ! He’s done so many amazing things, I would recommend his whole filmography !If you want to know more, feel free to ask away, I love talking about David ! :)
