Random story fragment: An all-girl boarding school that has one single trans boy student, who's had to figure out how to circumvent every possible school dress code rule he can in order to at least somewhat present as male, even if he doesn't pass. It's the thought that counts, as far as he or the girls are concerned.

And since everyone's mentally and literally 15, there's squabbling over him (to the great confusion of the 5-girl lesbian clique who have all dated each other at least once by now), not just between girls who personally find him attractive but also for the sheer clout of being the only one in this goddamn facility that has a ~✨boyfriend✨~

At one point the guy is on the phone with his older brother, explaining the situation and the brother is mildly concerned like uh, don't you find that, like, dehumanising? You're literally being objectified, these girls aren't treating you like a person, you're a commodity to them. That's not good. You're being fetishised.

And the kid is like fuck yeah bro, my dick only exists on a metaphysical level and I've got bitches fighting over it. You're in college and you've got no bitches. So who's winning here.

And the brother is like alright fine, just don't get yourself or anyone else hurt, do your homework sometimes, love you, and closes the phone, pausing to wonder how the ever-loving fuck little bro has already managed to reach Johnny Bravo levels of one-solitary-braincell-dedicated-exclusively-for-the-ladies dudebro by now when he only came out, like, two years ago.

You know, One Piece is all fun and happyness untill you learn that the world and themes are actually some of the darkest and most depressing things that were ever put on paper. The biggest potrayal of this tho is the fact that many characters have different running gags and quirks that are actually products of their horrible past trauma and messed up life.

Luffy- Wants to befriends literally everybody because of his fear of being alone and picks fights with all the people he doesn't like because he wants to protect his friends.

Nami- Her greed and kleptomania were developed because her mom literally died because sge was poor and was never able to give her and Nojiko all they wanted/needed.

Usopp- Makes absurd lies about everything because as a kid he had to keep lying to keep his mother happy and when she died he kept on doing so to keep himself safe.

Sanji- Puts all women on a super high pedestal because growing up women like his mom and sister wrre the only good people in his life and men like his Judge and his brothers were fucking awful.

Brook and Robin- Super S tier dark humor to cope with S tier dark trauma.

In other words, One Piece is just a comedy passing drmatic anime, but I think we all already knew that.

Ah, yes, I love this topic so much.

But I wouldn't say One Piece is a "comedy passing dramatic anime". One Piece is both comedy and drama. The drama doesn't hide behind comedy at any moment. You don't have to actively look for it or read between the lines to understand the characters. I think Oda is an amazing writer because he manages to just tell us/show us about his characters in the clearest and most obvious of ways. He throws hints at us over the episodes to then explaining it to us very carefully how his characters are built. This is why I find so difficult to understand why people (mainly from the general audience or, y'know, dudebros) don't get the characters in the first watch/read. An example of a comedy passing dramatic show would probably be just any sort of satiric comedic show in which they don't actually address the drama but instead make jokes about it. Like It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (God I love that sitcom).

I know what you mean, though. You're talking about the whole "making jokes/running gags about something when the reason behind them is actually way deeper". And I agree wholeheartedly.

Luffy has abandonment issues and that's why he keeps wanting to protect his friends and hates being alone, Nami sees money as safety and comfort because her mom died because they lacked money, Usopp's lies come from trying to make her mom happy because his dad left them, Sanji has an obsession with women because they're the only ones who never hurt him, Brook and Robin have no filter when it comes to dark humor because they've been alone for so long that the only way they have to cope is jokes and nobody gets them except them... And also:

We treat Zoro's relationship with Tashigi as comedic at some points but he has so much trauma regarding his best friend dying that he can't be close to someone who looks like her.

We make fun of and exaggerate Sabo's love for Luffy to the point of brocon/possessiveness because he literally spent most of his life having forgotten him and when he remembers his brothers, one of them dies, so of course he wants to look after the little one.

Boa's love for Luffy exists exclusively because she feels safe around him and it's the first man who has never seen her as a sexual object.

And a lot more of these but, basically, Oda is great at character building and writing because these are not things that you have to read between the lines. These are not exaggerations for the reader to understand what's going on with the characters. These are just trauma responses that constantly happen in real life. It's just a well-written story with awesome, realistic characters, and I absolutely love it.

Do ppl genuinely believe gaara has a crush on naruto? I thought it was a joke 😭 the jokes like gaara hating sasuke are funny but they're far from true considering in canon he cried for sasuke and tried to tell him to return. He told naruto later on that sasuke's not planning on coming back bc it was true, not bc he's jealous or some shit 💀 it was naruto who got upset at that and shoved his hand away, and also bc gaara made it clear that if in the war sasuke is on the enemy team then he won't hold back and will go for the kill. He's just another person who doesn't care about sasuke anymore which is why naruto got mad. To me only naruto and sasuke being romantically in love makes any sense, when ppl bring in not only gaara but even shikamaru, neji, Lee, sai it just seem like a joke bc wtf? Most of those ppl are pretty openly straight anyway. It seems like only sasunaru fans do this, they think every man around naruto wants him and is jealous of sasuke and sasuke's not a good bf but all of that is pure projection and stupidity and they act like incels when they treat naruto like some helpless girl with her Chad bf who should instead be with the nice guys. And if you remember this while analyzing gaara he just seems like yet another character that got reduced to a naruto dick sucker, that's all.

... kinda falls short, no? Their bond is distinct, and categorizing it as similar to Naruto's other connections, especially when most are comrades at best. Villagers conditionally acknowledge Naruto because they see him as useful until he proves otherwise, and that includes the majority of his... friends. Naruto said it himself, he doesn’t trust them (I HAVE A THEORY ABOUT THIS REGARDING 'HOPE' TBH I’LL FINISH THAT DRAFT SOON FINALLY LOL) This lack of trust is evident again during his fight with Kurama.

With Gaara, it is very uniquely a bond of their own regardless whether someone believes it is romantic or not and it doesn’t really have anything to do with Sasuke, so I’m not sure how to feel about a comparison? 

However, Naruto's connection with Gaara does share some similarities with his bond with Sasuke; hurting for Gaara’s pain because he understood it as fellow Jinchuuriki, or hurting for Sasuke’s pain and burdens but going on a journey because he wanted to understand (‘we could’ve been in each other’s shoes, Sasuke’). These bonds also relate to the system itself, which is closely interlinked. Hence, Sasuke shouting at Naruto for not understanding in VotE1. But it's not the same thing, and that's perhaps one of the most significant differences between Naruto's bonds with Sasuke and Gaara, don't you think? The contrasting pain (regarding that understanding) he felt played a crucial role in his learning process. "I felt less pain when I escaped loneliness, but Gaara was lonelier for longer and Sasuke has to live with this burden... which is unbearable, what can I do?" Collaboration only becomes possible when you can truly understand one another. The same was seen during the Shinobi War when they had to unite as a single alliance. Gaara references this several times.

That understanding transcends national borders, and it's an integral part of Naruto's Ninja Way. It's also a way to demonstrate that mutual understanding could potentially unite the Nations, but that's a different topic. What remains consistent is Naruto's anger towards the entire system when it becomes personal and disregarding what is seen as 'appropriate Shinobi behavior'. (Lmao not those anti-Naruto post claiming Naruto was fine with everything altogether 😭 ffs, delete.) 

Of course Naruto’s emotions played a huge part in him going feral. It was primarily triggered by Gaara's death, but even before that Kurama's Chakra was slipping through as he was learning about himself, Jinchuuriki and discovering new things that Konoha, and even Jiraiya, whom he trained with for years, had never shared with him. Our boy was seriously going through it, but this drive wasn’t just him showing Shonen Hero behavior to ‘stop the bad guys from gaining power’ or grieving a friends’ death at that moment even.

Naruto had every right to be furious. This is the same anger that says, 'If you Shinobi of the Leaf hadn't placed a monster in me,' and 'Did any of you even try to ask ME how I felt?!!' But, of course, Naruto repressed his anger and avoided empathizing with himself. However, this anger still simmers beneath the surface in the story. (Sakura's display of compassion for Naruto's situation after realizing he could die was a good moment tbh, I liked it even if Naruto shoved it aside. Kinda like he was saying they could never understand as Sasuke said to him, except Naruto sorta laughs it off and shows confidence instead. Anw, Sakura's best moments are in this arc, and it has nothing to do with the Sasori fight.)

But why doesn't Naruto express anger for himself?

Because, in this case, he carries a sense of guilt towards Gaara. He heard Gaara express how he desperately searched for a reason to live, feeling like a 'relic of the past that people wanted to get rid of'—unwanted and alone. This led Gaara to decide to care only for himself and kill everyone else. While Naruto could empathize with Gaara due to the shared pain stemming from similar situations, he also understood that their circumstances were entirely different at the time he met him. Naruto compared his own situation with Gaara's, stating that 'everyone' else had saved him from a dark and lonely hell, lumping the village together to contrast it with Gaara, who had no one still.

Naruto eventually said that Iruka and Sasuke were the ones who truly saved him after learning about different types of bonds and gaining a better understanding. However, the idea of being supported by so many people, (conditional or not) in contrast to Gaara, tore Naruto apart because he knows how unbearable it is to live that way. The Gaara he encountered during the exams represented Naruto's greatest fear for himself, and he began to feel guilty for having people around him, or even those who 'worship' him, as he felt it was unfair to Gaara. Despite his repressed emotions, Itachi's 'fear-inspiring Genjutsu' exposed Naruto's feelings and fears.

Naruto's efforts didn't just lead to a strong friendship; they also provided Gaara with hope. In this story, 'Hope' is perhaps the most important theme, a reason to live that is much more bearable. I wouldn't reduce all of this to Gaara merely 'worshipping' Naruto. Such analysis seems to miss the nuances of their complex bond regardless.

Naruto's sharing of joy also reflects his 'mysterious power.' He had mixed feelings about seeing Gaara advance so quickly as Kazekage but also genuinely felt happy for him. I genuinely believe that dismissing the Naruto-Gaara dynamic as mere 'worship' overlooks the significant impact Naruto had on Gaara and those around them. Which was extremely important to the story itself. I love the bond between Naruto and Gaara, but acknowledge it really isn't the same as the one with Sasuke. But considering their relationship, it's not surprising that Gaara might have a little crush on Naruto. However, it's not essential to insist on finding canonical evidence for this imo. While it's a plausible interpretation, I don't think that Gaara's feelings for Naruto are taken too seriously by most fans? Furthermore, Gaara's seeming 'pettiness' regarding Sasuke or Naruto's prioritization of him above others is not something anyone understood. The general consensus "for Naruto's sake" was that “Sasuke causes Naruto pain” (more like, Sasuke’s pain hurts Naruto because he loves him) so of course, Gaara's feelings were conflicted by his duty (getting rid of a 'criminal') and his friendship with Naruto (who will fight against such Shinobi duties because feelings are involved and they'll never be able to truly become emotionless tools-). Sasuke had attacked the summit after all, usually an immediate death sentence regardless of reason. Gaara is Naruto’s friend, it would be weird if he didn’t want to protect Naruto in return even against Sasuke, it's just that Naruto didn't see it the same way as everyone around him. THAT is frustrating!! Remember he told Naruto to really think about his friendship with Sasuke and what it meant? 👀 Like, "Naruto, you really want to do this? We are friends too, yeah? Doesn’t he cause you pain? Look at you... think about this carefully, kinda sus tbh. What’s this meaaann? I give my life for you, I will fight for you but what we do now huh?" Etc- 

In the end, Naruto is the protagonist of a Shonen story, serving as a measuring device to gauge the significance of events in the narrative. (This role is largely shared with Sasuke though). Naruto provides the reference point for understanding the story's relationships. The core message, typically related to positive change as defined by Naruto/the main character, is a fundamental aspect of these stories. What truly matters is why something is significant in the story and what it means to the characters. His bond with Gaara a huge part of it. And to a degree the others as well because that's kind of the point.... And it's not for nothing we haven't seen the same development with the villagers as a whole because it wasn't important to the story.... yet. (Should've been solved before he became Hokage though 😂 "Naruto-the-village-is-family-I-guess-cuz-former-hokage-said-so-Uzumaki." Bro.)

I mean... to a certain degree. Define worshipping 👀 from what I can read about the true definition, their 'worshipping' is pretty mutual, but the difference lies in the foundation and the fact that it is unconditional. UGH! 😓 This stupid non-canon quote. Did everyone forget who wrote this novel about Sasuke 'atoning for his sins'??? 😭 SPOILER: NOT KISHIMOTO. (Kinda want to read it though to fact-check some things.) There might be some truth in the words now that I have spent many months thinking about the blank period... but so does Naruto not want to live without Sasuke. As much as their world includes the other, they are still their own characters with their own goals in a Shinobi world with a system that would never allow them to truly live in each others' worlds fully anyway gerigjekrg3rhiqjkhmregqerigkjqrg;-; ok bye.

Nancy x Ace and the case of emotional intimacy in 4x02

The writers are on fire this season, no seriously, they ate a bunch of the unhinged wants from the Nancy Drew fandom and said ‘here, it’s the final season, feast on this!’ Part of me wondered if they would keep the proverbial foot on the gas after that truly what even oh my god final scene of episode one, but oh boy they really came out swinging for episode two.

You know the drill, I get rambly, more beneath the cut.

The tension throughout this episode between Ace and Nancy is absolutely delicious. Whilst I would love to know how that confrontation at Icarus Hall ended, I really love how they open 4x02. Ace isn’t letting Nancy off that easily, not after finally cracking open this slice of honesty at last. He hasn’t physically pushed in again, not since that step back when Nancy told him they were cursed, and it’s a direct contrast to 4x01 how hands off he is in this episode. He doesn’t invade her personal space, he’s restraining himself so hard in the first few scenes not to reach out to her, he knows that having opened the door to this conversation and Nancy’s fears about the curse it would be too easy for her to shut down again, shut him out and refuse to be anywhere near him. He’s having to walk a tightrope of managing his own feelings and trying to get more information and not pushing in the wrong way and losing Nancy completely.

He’s hurt, he’s angry, he wants to scream at the world that he’s finally found out that Nancy loves him and he can’t do anything about it. The physical barrier of the table in this opening scene is a really delightful framing option. They’re talking (sort of) finally, but it’s not a fully open conversation yet, there���s a barrier (literally) blocking them from reaching an understanding.

Ace is desperate - for information, for understanding, for Nancy to stop shutting him out and actually tell him what she knows. He’s had this dumped on him barely twelve hours ago and is still processing. Nancy, meanwhile, has had weeks to work through her feelings and has made a decision for her, without the acknowledgement that it’s more than her in this. Nancy has been blinded by fear to the fact that this cannot just be her choice. They’re a team, they’re a unit, no matter that they cannot be physically close to each other, but they’ve forgotten that in amongst the fear and the anger and they’re not working effectively together.

That’s a running theme throughout - they’re together for a lot of the episode, but not actually working as a team. It’s mostly Bro!Nancy pushing, belittling, ripping those around her down, but after enough sniping Ace starts to give it back. Never enough to hurt Nancy, but enough to rile her, to let her know that he isn’t just going to lie down and take whatever she feels like throwing at him. He’s had weeks of not having her, barely even seeing her, and now suddenly he has all of this new information to work through and it’s not even really Nancy anymore, it’s some Bro version of her and god he just wants his friend back and it hurts.

You see him fading back further and further from the group, not wanting to even engage with her whilst she’s like this, because this isn’t his Nancy, sure he still loves her, but he doesn’t particularly like her right now. What starts out as just Dudebro humour quickly degenerates into verbal and physical abuse and at every turn Ace works to hide his hurt from her, to not let it affect him, to protect Nancy even when she’s trying to kill him.

The tipping point is at the hospital where she accuses him of flirting with the nurse - you can watch him shut down and disengage before walking away. Ace will do a lot for Nancy, Ace would die for Nancy, but this isn’t her. This is some horrible warped version of her and he’s not going to sit around and let her abuse him like this.

He doesn’t want anything from this version of Nancy. Even when she offers to tell him about the time they did get together you can see a flicker, a moment where he files that piece of information away for later because this is new, this is something that he wasn’t aware of, this adds layers and context and confusion to what Nancy has been dancing around all this time, because how could they have had time together? But he doesn’t want to know now, he doesn’t want this Nancy to be the one to tell him, bartering the information away to make him like her again. He wants his Nancy to tell him, he wants it to be a conversation, not bargaining chips and one upmanship.

When she starts trying to physically hurt him he backs away, at no point does he go on the offensive or try to really overpower her.

He just tries to get her somewhere where she can’t hurt him or herself. But even when she’s slightly more in control of herself and the first thing she does is apologise to him he still doesn’t engage with her. Doesn’t come down to her level. He hangs back, because this is worse than when she wasn’t spending time with him, this is something twisted and he hates how it makes him feel like he’s the one that swallowed poison. 

That shifts when she vomits. As soon as she’s unwell he can’t help himself, he moves in to check she’s ok, to be there for her. Because there’s a lot of hurt that it’s going to take him a while to move past, but now at least it’s his Nancy back again, and he needs to be close to her - two magnets impossible to keep apart. But he doesn’t talk to her, he’s still angry, still hurt, and yes she’s apologised but it’s not enough to soothe everything else about this god awful day. He uses the others to stay away from her, physically putting distance between them even though Nancy is back to not being able to keep her eyes from him. This will take more than an I’m sorry. This needs honesty, openness, time for the two of them to reforge a connection. They go off together to finish the case, to get closure and a confession from Logan, Ace throwing himself into his role. The car rider over there silent and awkward - this isn’t the time, Nancy is still head half in the case even as she keeps sliding glances to Ace to gauge whether he’s ready to listen, ready to talk, ready to let her back in again.

There’s been a lot of hypothesising about the curse, the parameters of it, and the fact that this forces Nancy to actually communicate for the first time with someone she loves. It’s something she’s been slowly learning to do with those around her, but it hasn’t filtered through into her romantic relationships. Every other relationship we’ve seen her avoid and deflect and outright refuse to engage, but suddenly that’s no longer an option. Her options here are1)  to not engage with Ace, which she tries with varying degrees of success throughout these two episodes, or 2) to actually talk to him and communicate openly. That last scene between them is the most open and vulnerable we’ve ever seen them in reality, and it shows how much growth Nancy has gone through over the course of the show that she now is able to actually talk to Ace and tell him these intimate details.

When she shows up at his door, he doesn’t really react to her joke (yes that’s the jar Bro!Nancy failed to open earlier) and physically flinches away from her as she moves into the apartment. He’s halfway to kicking her out when she finally (finally) begins to talk, to explain how she’s felt all day, and the understanding that not being able to access her own emotions has brought her. She doesn’t get to decide what Ace can and cannot know about this curse. It’s as much his as hers, arguably more his because it’s his life on the line. And yes Nancy has been so hurt and damaged by the other timeline that she’s trying to protect and shut down, but it’s not only her in this and at last she understands that.

At last she offers to tell him everything, and this is his Nancy and his space and it’s the diametric opposite to the night before. It’s light and he can see her and the night before he was filled with need and want and righteous demands for answers. Now it’s quieter, wanting to be with her to understand, to sit with her and talk. Because yes the physical aspects of a relationship are important, but part of what he’s been denied (to both of them over the last few weeks) is the connection and communication. The understanding, the raw truth, stripped back to the essence of each of them. And the relief on his face as Nancy talks to him, as she finally lets him in. The tension drains away and it is a real and palpable thing. There’s still that careful careful distance between them, because now at last Ace understands the need for no physical intimacy, but there is emotional intimacy instead. Hands carefully kept to themselves, eye contact, raw grief and tears.

And Ace acknowledges her pain, they both finally reach a place of understanding for the other. Gone are the demands, the pushes, the refusal to back down. Now is a quieter comfort, a gentle humour, a slow breath out to release the tension. The relief of a wound finally cleansed, of being able to ask Nancy about what happened between them and hear about the good stuff, not just the grief and trauma. Because sure it’s important to talk about that, but they deserve the gentle kindness, the good, the slow slide of waking up and telling him that he smiles in his sleep.

Nancy is a schoolgirl in love, desperate to talk about her crush. And what a way to talk about it, to actually be able to speak about the things that happened between the two of you with the person they happened with. To be able to use a shorthand that you both understand. To finally fall back and just stare at each other, drink the other in, bask in the closeness that could never have been achieved before the curse. Not like this, not without the physical closeness entwining with it.

some thoughts from the game last night since i was too tired to do anything useful after posting like 3 pics.

jake came out before warmups and sat on the bench for a while and just kinda stared at the ice. he's so skinny seeing him in leggings made me want to feed him.

tanger and ricky both looked kind of...subdued? off? something? through warmups and to a lesser extent through the game too. tanger really didn't seem to have his heart in his weird little stretching and puck gathering rituals. i hope he's not hurt.

po was there for warmups and also looked pretty bummed out, but i guess he knew he wasn't playing.

jarry seemed really happy and animated during warmups. i got some pics of him if any of the jarry girlies (gn) want one.

gravy is so LARGE. beautiful haunted vampire. i am still mourning the loss of my beloved babygirl but i like him.

doc was very sweet. he ended up right in front of my daughter at one point for warmups and after doing some stickhandling he looked right at her and flipped her a puck. i did the worst job i ever have trying to catch it and knocked into the dad next to me, but everyone we were close to last night was super chill and nice so he just gave it to her. the little boy next to her was so excited and kept congratulating her for getting a puck and telling her how cool it was.

kappy had a great game. the dudebros behind me were bragging on him. him and kris were very scrappy... he shoved kris into the boards hard on our end.

i know it wasn't his best game but jars made some great saves that even the blues fans (we were surrounded no pens fans near us sadly) had to give credit for.

cookie was definitely talking some shit to binnington and a few of the other blues but seemed to be happy and good spirited.

i know i've already posted about this but geno's goal was the highlight of our night. he's my girl's favorite penguin and she was in his jersey. as soon as he got sent to the box she told me he'd score coming out... AND THEN HE DID. we were on the opposite end so we had a delayed reaction but we were so excited. seeing geno on his hot girl shit in person was incredible. would've been great if anybody else had been on that level but...experience penguins hockey etc etc

i sadly coudn't see daddy i mean sully yelling at everyone bc where we were sitting but i can certainly imagine it

cannot overstate how comical tanger crashing into the net was. just right in there, nothing jars could do but get taken out like bowling pin. tanger checks on him a LOT throughout the game... my man is dedicated to his goalie.

kris's post game sweaty hair flip almost took me out. the man is too hot he must be stopped.

I am glad that you mention that! Yes, Mike is both an action and words guy and it fits that he is the leader who gives support and love to those he loves, but I think you made a great point that Mike's monologue to El undermines what he said to Will in S2, and I feel like that's why people want his monologue to El to be a lie given the context... That's one of the reasons why I wonder how they're gonna deal with the monologue if they're going with the Byler route honestly

I think it is very hard to understand at this time because we don't have the full picture yet. Like when Vol. 2 dropped, we just didn't get it, with most bylers assuming after our first watch that it was all over. And even now a lot of bylers still have some resentment towards the monologue (some can't even rewatch it!), because they don't fully understand what the thought process was behind it. But in all honesty, it had to go down that way, and for a number of reasons.

First and foremost, they wanted to trick the majority of the audience by giving them what they want (thought they wanted), while also making a point to do it in the most unsatisfying way possible. In order for people to move on from Mike and El, they needed to get them to the highest point they could possibly be, on shaky ground that is doomed to fall, so that they can inevitably do just that, fail disastrously.

Once all the dust settles, there's no valid reason for them to go through all that again, as they've reached their highest and it didn't work out, meaning the story would fall flat if they even tried. (Dudebro fans on Tiktok are actually hilarious bc they're not milkvans or bylers, but they'll make jokes mocking a version of s5 that ends with another milkvan love confession... like... they're so close to the truth and they don't even realize it...)

It also makes an early s5 breakup very fitting, because they left things off at such a high stakes moment without resolving it.

And secondly, and arguably even more importantly, this had to happen for byler to be satisfying (which is important if they want the ending to be satisfying for overall rewatch). Byler wont be satisfying if El and Mike aren't explicitly over with no chance of return (especially with Will and El being practically siblings now). They needed to make it so people couldn't wonder what if, and now, they wont, because we know at their peak they were doomed to fail.

But like you said, how exactly do they plan to go from that monologue, which contradicted what Mike once said to Will, to essentially reversing it?

The quick and easy assumption is that Mike lied and so therefore he never contradicted what he said to Will, because everything he said back then in the shed was true, whereas everything he said in Surfer Boy was a lie...

The long and difficult assumption is that Mike is in a situation where miscommunication is going through the roof. His actions are being based upon misunderstandings and how he is dealing with said misunderstandings in his own head (much of which has been caused in part by his behavior, which was caused in part by his denial/repression) and trying to make choices that he thinks are right, based on what other people think/want/need in this high stakes moment.

Mike is not necessarily thinking of himself here, and so just from that fact alone he is being selfless. Just like Will giving his love disguised as El to help Mike (essentially lying), Mike is also sacrificing his true feelings because he is scared of hurting and losing El (essentially lying). And so although it's not right, it's also not wrong, because it's coming from a good place deep down. (support gay wrongs, am i right?!)

I don't think it's as easy as interpreting it as being a lie vs. truth though. Mike has said SOOO many times this season but the truth is when the real fact of the matter is, those truths he's mentioned often contradict, whether it be outright, or through assumption.

And so it can't all be the truth, at least not on the surface.

There is a necessity for closure on both the Mike and El front and also the Mike and Will front, to clear up those contradictions. Not just for the fans, but also for all three of the characters who are all lying, mostly as a result of miscommunication, meaning they might not have felt the need to lie if there wasn't so much miscommunication in the first place.

AKA what is the truth Oprah gif.

But I do think a number of things Mike said during his monologue, can constitute as the truth, by technicality, which means that even if it's sort of acknowledged later in the story that Mike's monologue was a lie, that doesn't mean there won't be a follow up to that, that resembles him revealing that it wasn't all lies, because he couldn't in good conscious lie in the first place.

Saying, I'm sorry I don't say it more isn't necessarily a lie. He is sorry and I'm sure he does wish he could have said it more... but it's also not the truth, not the whole truth. The problem is he never said it at all to El (once, when he thought she wasn't listening and visibly regretted it). So, he's not acknowledging the truth with that statement, he's instead sticking with a claim he made during their fight, when he low-key gaslighted El by saying I say it, which she countered with You can't even write it ,Mike (They're crazy for putting this line in here bc El already disagreed with Mike on it. Same w the superhero line. Meaning there's at least two things he said she outright didn't like... Yikes...).

It's going to take him acknowledging the falsehoods to admit to the truth hiding in there, but I do think both are one in the same at the end of the day.

Then, it will just be a matter of how they lay out Mike and Will's arcs related to their sexuality in s5.

Noah, in defense of the Duffer's writing for Will's arc in s4, said that once Will does come out, it will be really beautiful. I'm sure that was just him being confident in the Duffers on a basic level, but it also just makes me think about how this is all going to play out.

Is Will's sexuality something that could be revealed first to the others, either by Will himself somehow for some reason, or by Vecna without his control (not in support of Will being outed, but we all know it's a possibility).

I'm just curious about this, because are we going to be seeing Mike reacting to Will being revealed as gay? Or are they both going to find out their feelings for each other, and as a result it will just be obvious they both like boys and so there won't be much of a need to delve further than that?

I think what intrigues me about Will being the one who is revealed as gay in canon first, is because it's obviously highly anticipated, and he's only out to one character so far (Jonathan). And so that coming to a head at the forefront, coming full circle to s1, with everything that happened that first season related to his queer-coding, does feel like it has the capacity to be very satisfying if told that way.

But that would then mean we're also going to see Mike's reaction to that revelation...

And...

I think that's where the acknowledgment for him and his past behavior related to Will and the deterioration of their friendship over the years, is going to make Mike feel a little bit down on himself.

I don't think this means that Mike needs to avenge for his sins or whatever or that he's all wrong and Will's all right.

HOWEVER, I do think there's a chance that Mike could feel that way by the end of this ie. if/when Mike finds out Will is gay, maybe even also that he's in love with him (the painting was from him), only to be reminded of what he said in his monologue.... I just can't see Mike reacting all that positively to that, in regards to himself.

I do think that because of this, we are due for a conversation about the summer of 85, which they still haven't talked about, and maybe even a claim by Mike that because of his behavior over the last two years, he doesn't deserve Will (he'd again be agreeing with the ga saying Will deserves better).

BUT!!! Here's the thing.

Will gets it.

If anyone gets it, if anyone understands why someone might feel the responsibility to be who everyone expects them to be, it's Will.

It doesn't matter if the audience hates Mike because of his behavior over the seasons, because he too presumably feels at war with himself.

This also got me thinking about Heartstopper, a story about two queer characters going through different points in their journey, one gay/out of the closet and one bisexual/in the closet, and them dealing with that journey side by side, having to respect each other for both going at their own pace (You say go slow, I fall behind teas)

When Charlie and Nick kissed, only for Nick to run off upon hearing some of his friends nearby, in turn making Charlie insecure and heartbroken, it was still valid.

Yes it sucked that Charlie got hurt and that he's in this mindset of assuming Nick could never feel the same, based on those actions. Though, we're left in the dark for an episode, assuming the worst, we soon find out that Nick had his reasons.

He was scared.

And he explains that to Charlie, and he's emotional and he's still in the middle of trying to understand what he's going through.

And so even though he didn't have to do all this, he didn't have to apologize for being scared, he still is. He still feels like it's what Charlie deserves because he also does have feelings for him and understandably, can't in good conscious continue to pursue Charlie, without clearing the air.

Even despite this, even though Nick is convinced Charlie has every right turn him away after he low-key rejected him and made him feel insecure, Charlie doesn't.

Nick is looking at him confused and kind of bewildered, and Charlie just smiles at him with tears in his eyes all knowingly because HE. GETS. IT!

It also reminds me of the I didn't say it/You didn't have to, and the whole Leia and Han, I love you/I know... I feel like the moment it becomes obvious that Mike is in love with Will and they have a moment together, whether it be intense or quiet, we're going to be able to tell from the look in Will's eyes that he knows! Because that, in combination with all their moments over the seasons leading up to it, points to the fact that their love is something that doesn't need to be stated outright to be understood. They just feel it and they know, based on their actions.

And that all in turn makes Mike's monologue at the end of s4 that much more necessary, bc we'll be seeing Mike and Will contrast it beautifully by the end. They'll actually talk through things, looking in each others eyes, apologize where they feel they went wrong, listen, forgive, and understand as equals; a team!

Mike going through a mini discovery journey of his own in s5, based on that post I made and the whole Paladin oath redemption arc, seems very fitting based on the situation that's been laid out. Whether Mike is gay or bi or unlabeled is not something I think about definitively, because I think this coming of age journey for him in the final season will happen regardless of what queer label he identifies with.

But be clear, this doesn't mean I think Mike should feel obligated to apologize about the summer of 85. And yet, regardless, I do think that in some shape or form we're going to see him try to amend it. Because it's not that he has to do it, it's because he wants to do it.

I don't think Mike is this horrible character that has all this redeeming ahead of him. I do however think that his behavior over the seasons, based on him not wanting to accept himself for who he truly is, has in turn made Will insecure not only with his own feelings, but with their friendship.

While Mike's worrying a bunch about El, he's resorted to only showing care for her because that's all he can do, causing him to close off from Will all-together bc simply caring for Will is also not something he can do, causing Will to think Mike doesn't even simply care for him.

I do think the end of s4, specifically the monologue, set up a really solid start to s5 and how all three of these arcs in the bizarre love triangle are going to each exist on their own, overlap and finally be resolved in a way that will be shockingly satisfying to a lot of fans, despite it being unexpected.

how long have you been a fan of iasip and how long on sunnyblr? do you know who here has been around for a long time? how has the fandom developed and changed from your perspective? has it always been so reddit-oriented? what have the main opinions (general consensus kinda shit) been in your eyes? were you into macdennis right from the start? did the fandom always follow rcg so closely or is that only after the podcast? sorry for asking so much, just interested in the history of this space

Step into my office Anon. Let me regale you the tale of Sunnyblr from the days of yore. Or whatever.

Me personally, I started watching Sunny in late summer 2019 (tragically I had just missed the fake MacDennis script panic of July 2019). My friends had it on when I went to their house and we didn't have anything else to do, so we just watched like a shitton of episodes that day and I was like hold fuck on this scratches something in my brain. I didn't start poking around on the Sunny side of tumblr until possibly a week later? I think. Basically in my skipping around Sunny episodes I was starting to pick up the vibes Mac and Dennis were putting down and as a joke I was like hmm what if I just take a look at the ao3 tag ahaha jk unless. And that was the beginning of the end. I'm not sure if I checked out the Sunny tag on tumblr first or the MacDennis tag but literally at that time it didn't matter. Sunnyblr was essentially MacDennisblr. Tumblr didn't get me into MacDennis but it definitely accelerated my hyperfixation with them This was all pre-s14 at this point for reference.

Honestly, not many people remain from that time or even before. I remember some folks I had followed reminiscing about post-s12, wondering if Dennis was coming back, or if he turned into the bar. Idk man I'm so glad I didn't have to deal with not knowing if Dennis was coming back like that would've been too much for me.

But 2019 Sunnyblr, and this may just be the nostalgia talking, but man it was magical. The gif sets, the meta breakdowns of episodes, the macdennis posts--god we were eating GOOD. It felt like one giant group chat in the best way. And then The Gang Gets Romantic happens an we were absolutely FERAL. Okay? Like picture Nov 5th but on a way smaller scale. But that was the energy, okay?

But then, tragedy struck in the form of Dee Day. That, for me was kinda the beginning of the end of that version of Sunnyblr. A lot of people were pissed. The glass shelves we had propped RCG and Megan Ganz up on had shattered. A decent amount of people left right then and there. But those who stayed were holding out for something -- a better apology from them regarding the brownface for one. And that...didn't happen (I don't want to speak more on this bc like...look I'll be real with you, I stuck my head in the sand on this one. But people had a right to be hurt by that episode and to this day I haven't rewatched it since it aired). But we trudged along. Bc it's "satire" and these are "bad people" and we are DEF getting canon MacDennis okay they are going to KISS on the MOUTH in BIG MO.

....and then they didn't. Clown shoes squeaking.

Okay trying to get this back on track...

As far as reddit goes, that's always just been the "dudebro" place for Sunny. Sometimes they make valid points and our braincells align and that warrants someone posting it here to discuss.

I feel like the general opinions kinda feel the same to me? Mac and Dennis are endgame, Archie. Dennis is bastardman but also baby. Charlie poor little meow meow. I do have to say...I feel like some stuff used to feel a bit more...grounded than it does now?? If that makes sense? Like idk man people were out here writing academic prose to describe the meta in Clip Show. And I do feel like that vibe's kinda gone. But it's not a bad thing. It's just different. Like it's more unhinged but hey we're still having fun so who cares?

Uh what else? Oh yeah so the RCG stuff. Like I said before, there was a point where Sunnyblr propped them up and we got reality checked real quick, okay? They went from being UnProblematic Kings ™ to Rob posting copaganda on his IG at the height of the George Floyd protests in June of 2020. That happening after all the shit with Dee Day was basically a powder keg. And that's honestly when Sunnyblr as I knew it, really died.

I think the podcast has def shoved them back into a more favorable light in the fandom's eyes. Speaking for myself, I never stopped stanning Glenn but Rob and Charlie and Kait were on thin fucking ice (maybe not Charlie so much but def Rob and Kait--actually mostly Rob). I think RCG have to be prevalent in the fandom as much as the characters do bc they're so close to them and the show like this IS their show y'know?

That's...all I can really think of. Like I said, not many people remain from those days. I can think of maybe a handful off the top of my head but I wouldn't consider them nearly as active as they were regarding Sunny when I joined. We're still moots but that's bc we like each other beyond the MacDennis of it all.

Sorry this is so long too lmfao. Like Sunnyblr was such a huge part of my life during that time so I guess I got shit to say. I also for real in no way consider myself the end all be all expert on this either. Like in no way am I the sole authority on Sunnyblr history. This is based on stuff I experienced and picked up on from other's posts from before my time. Anybody can chime in with their own opinions and shit. Correct me too. Idc.

Alright, I just finished Penny’s playthrough of The Last of Us. That was so good. I had heard some stuff about the ending beforehand so it wasn’t as big of a shock as it would’ve been if I hadn’t but like I just wasn’t expecting it to be like that. I’m still in kind of a daze. I’m really impressed. I haven’t really had time to figure out all my thoughts on the ending but like I definitely agreed 100% with what Penny was saying. Ellie should’ve been told what was going on and Joel shouldn’t have lied. And like yeah, it did feel like Joel was saving Ellie for his own sake rather than for Ellie’s. Also, the beginning was so well done! Like, the whole thing with Sarah at the beginning like actually almost made me tear up. Like I could feel that pressurey feeling behind my eyes. I know that probably doesn’t sound like a lot but like I’m one of those people where like it’s very hard for fictional stories to make me at all close to tears. I still get totally attached to characters and can feel emotionally annihilated by the events of a story, I just usually stare at the screen or pages or whatever I’m looking at like it’s a monster though. So it really surprised me that a character who I barely know anything about was able to get that much of a reaction out of me. I think it’s just something about that scene.

Anyway, thanks for recommending Penny’s playthrough! She was very entertaining and made me genuinely laugh a bunch! I loved the bits, not to mention watching her attempt to hunt a deer and fail for like 15 minutes straight was absolutely delightful. Also very much enjoyed hearing her mess with her watch thingy on stream. Both are definite highlights.

I’m very excited for when I look at Part 2, I’m also very excited to watch the tv show. I really hope it’s a good adaptation. Thanks again for the recommendation and thanks for writing a The Last of Us DRV3 fanfic and talking about it since I’m not sure at what point in time I would’ve actually ended up looking for a playthrough to watch of the game otherwise!

yeah the intro to the last of us is like. fuck man . i remember playing through that and just sobbing that intro is so good. and penny is SOOO fucking right literally the only person i trust to play tlou2 EVERRR i know for a fact that she gets it like i get it and really thats all that matters. shes the best. her videos are all awesome im so sad it took me so long to get into watching ALL of her stuff and not just the fandubs. the parts that made me really cry were of course when sarah dies, when sam and henry die, when ellie rants at joel (everyone who ive ever loved has either DIED. or LEFT ME. everyone...fucking except for you! so don't tell me i'd be better off with someone else, because the truth is that i would just be more scared.), when joel got hella hurt and ellie had to bring him out of the university, when ellie killed david, when ellie nearly drowned, AND! at the end of the game. that final scene kills me. i feel very much for tlou and really everything all the time. really

The one guy in the second LGBTQ+ seminar I went to saying how he doesn’t like the term “In the Closet” and likes calling it being an “Undercover Gay” instead. He got cheers from several people and I second that statement

The wonderful Ms Heather who spoke in one of the main sessions and in the last seminar I went to (How to help people through tough times) and her fantastic back-breaking bear hugs and exuberant personality and love of teenagers and love of being loud & a being rough and tumble kind of girl and her casual admittance of having ADHD in the funniest way possible (I have both her sessions and seminar recorded if anyone wants to listen!)

The wonderful Ms Megan who did a FANTASTIC job at talking about and representing LGBTQ+ youth during her seminar, initially when I read the title I was wary but within the first 3 minutes all of that was immediately gone, I was so happy, and very proud of how she didn’t answer any questions she knew she couldn’t have an opinion on, being a white, straight, cis woman. You could clearly tell she did her research and wants the best for LGBTQ+ youth. (I recorded the session via audio if anyone wants to listen for themselves. It’s about 2 hours tho so be warned)

The wonderful Dr. Heather Thompson and her awesome energy and bubbly personality and her love and care and genuine concern for teenagers’ well beings and mental health and all around positivity and encouragement

The beginning of the main sessions during worship where it was basically a rave

Like dude this was so amazing and such a wonderful experience, like I’m not even kidding over 6,000 kids were there it was SO FREAKING COOL

Saw your post abour canceled cartoons bc too many girls were watching, it makes so much sense to me why loki series was so bad as most of his fans are women/girls and minorities, they couldn't simply cancel it, then canceled the character and remade in a bad way, and it's also interesting that my group of friends about superhero stuff, which is basically just males and me a girl, they all liked it and Im the only who hated, we started watching those movies at the same year we know the same stuff

@solostinmysea I'm answering your reply here to not spam the op of that post. I don't agree with your point about Loki being re-marketed for women. Loki already had mostly women and queer fans. Besides the retcon started with TR. I think Loki is re-marketed to attract more men, or more accurately how dudebros like to see him portrayed and treated. They figured the older fans including women and queer people would still watch anything with Loki in it(and they were right). So they tried to satisfy their main target audience with the retcon.

I've talked about this before in a post that I wrote after IW. So I'm going to copy paste parts of it to explain my point(because I'm lazy :P :D ).

Loki’s popularity among fans was so unexpected, that it even surprised Marvel. So why Loki? Why he was loved even more than heroes?

Why do we care so much?

It’s about what and who Loki represents. Everything comes back to Identification.

Because we see ourselves in Loki. We, who felt different, were different, and were alone because of it. We, who knew how it felt to be ridiculed, rejected, vilified and despite all our efforts, never accepted, never loved for who we are. We, who hide all our hurt and pain under a mask but at some point we just couldn’t take it anymore and exploded. So we identified with Loki. Even when we didn’t agree with what he did, we still understood him, loved him. The characterization and Tom’s performance was so strong that kept our love in spite of everything. In a manner Loki was more real for us than any other hero. He wasn’t a beloved and popular person, or a celebrity. He wasn’t even considered a good and loyal person by his close companions because of his differences. And he was desperate to be seen for his capabilities, to be loved and accepted and respected for who he was and we could relate. We could relate because his story was like our stories in real life. Because we know that in real life, there are no arc reactors to save our hearts, no super-soldier serums to give us a chance to prove ourselves, and no magic hammers to make us sure of our worth. We know how it feels to prefer a fall into an abyss when there is nothing left to hold on. We know how the fall can be so disastrous, how it can change us for the worse. We know how it feels to be even more alone after the fall, more hated, and how hard it is to try to pull yourself together after everything.

To a number of fans and audience, especially male audience with beliefs from a toxic masculinity culture this seemed threatening that a queer coded and/or feminine coded villain gets more female fans than heavily masculine coded heroes. They hated him. And they started to belittle his fans, by implying that Loki was only popular because of Tom or because he is pretty! That Loki’s fans are a bunch of fools that only lust after him for his looks. It seems they deliberately don’t want to understand. Still, it doesn’t really matter, right? Marvel won’t force the ideas of toxic masculinity on us, right? Wrong!

Ragnarok happened.

Ragnarok happened and it stepped on everything that was Loki. His characterization, his arc, his powers, his goals, his fans. Ragnarok ridiculed Loki in every possible way. It insulted us, made fun of us, told us that we were a bunch of fools for caring for Loki because he is just a stupid troublemaker. Ragnarok was a disaster of toxic masculinity.

We saw it. We saw everything that was wrong with Ragnarok and pointed it out. But what were we called? Stans, apologists, haters, antis.

“No more resurrection this time” was directed to us, not Thor. They were telling us that you can rage and try to fight, but at the end, you are nothing, you will be broken like a ragdoll so the real hero can be heroic. The story is not about you, it was never about you. You are just a tragedy, you don’t deserve happiness, you can only be redeemed by sacrificing yourself.

And they continued this retcon and treatment in the Loki show too. His torture and humiliation was played for laughs and was justified. His portrayal reinforced many queerphobic beliefs about queer men. His pain was disregarded and he was beaten up and talked down to until he knows his place. Who do you think enjoy this treatment of a queer, othered character? Queerphobic dudebros and people with toxic masculinity beliefs(This doesn't mean people who enjoyed the show are in these categories. Most of them probably have different interpretation of the show or the character and cared about other aspects of the show). And you can see many of the things I had listed, was repeated by MW who believed Loki was an ass and people liked him because of Tom! So no wonder that he continued retconning and butchering the character even more to sth that fits his views of Loki.

moments in lord of the rings: return of the king ranked by how hard they make me cry:

1. frodo turning to look back at sam after climbing onto the boat in the final scene. for the first time since the ring was destroyed, he genuinely looks like he’s at peace. he’ll never heal completely, but he knows that this step — leaving for the grey havens — will help ease some of that pain. he looks at sam and he smiles because he loves his friend so very deeply, even as they part, and because some of the weight of that trauma from the ring has somehow, in this very moment of taking these first few steps, been lifted. 

every single time i watch this movie, this moment is like the nail in the coffin. at this point in the scene i’m already crying but that shot of him smiling at sam is enough to make my cry until my stomach hurts. like not even crying but genuinely fucking WEEPING.

2. “don’t you let go.” samwise. sam sam SAM. sam i love you!!! and frodo!!! this moment makes me CRAZY like i made a post a while back about the parallel that this scene creates and i’ll include the pic for good measure:

when i watched this movie most recently, THIS was the scene that fucked me up the most. it’s always interesting when i watch it because a lot of the times i’ll get emotional over a scene that might not have gotten me wound up during previous watches and like. yes i have cried over this scene before. but in my most recent rewatch, the moment where sam looks at frodo, when he gets that look on his face and says don’t you let go. i just. burst into tears. no joke like my face just crumpled and i lost it. 

because FUCK frodo WANTS TO DIE. he WANTS to give in he WANTS to let go he feels guilty and oh so tired and he just wants to quit but sam WILL NOT LET HIM!! and frodo sees that he sees that sam believes in him and he reaches up and grabs sam's hand and then sam pulls him up and that is LOVE baby idc how you define it it is pure irrevocable unconditional love. fuck i love lord of the rings these movies are not for dudebros they are for sickeningly emotional people who actually like. understand the themes. like “this is a love story” phoebe waller bridge.jpeg

3. “we set out to save the shire, sam. and we did. but not for me.” / “you can’t leave.” technically very close to my #1 choice but. the feeling is different. the vibe of #1 is incredibly bittersweet, is extremely sad but also happy with a real sense of relief and above all catharsis. but this part is just fucking sad. the audience is realizing exactly why frodo has to leave and it’s just absolutely heartwrenching. and FUCK where is sean astin’s oscar because he sells it he absolutely sells it. like that IS samwise gamgee and that IS his grief as he realizes that his best friend is leaving him. after everything they’ve gone through together, the pure hell and horror, the pure suffering that they experienced, frodo is leaving him. like that is grief in sam’s voice, pure sadness that cannot be cured. 

frodo tells sam “you cannot always be torn in two. you will have to be one and whole for many years. you have so much to enjoy and to be and to do” and perhaps that makes it worse because frodo knows that by leaving, he is effectively ripping sam’s heart in half. but he has to, he has to, and sam knows that. he understands and yet he is still sad, is still grieving over the abrupt removal of this relationship from his life. there one second and gone the next. 

4. “then let us be rid of it! once and for all! come on, mr. frodo...i can’t carry it for you, but i can carry you!!” you know what? no explanation needed. 

5. “my friends...you bow to no one.” aragorn THEE king of gondor!! fuck this moment is a lot and it hits especially hard if you’ve watched the movies all in one go (as they are meant to be watched!!) because you’re sitting there on your fucking couch and watching aragorn tell these fucking hobbits “hey. no. you’re the heroes and we should be the ones bowing to you” and it’s like yes!! yes exactly!! you’ve watched those damn hobbits go through HELL and seeing aragorn recognize that is SO fucking special. 

but!! what makes this scene tear-inducing isn’t just the emotional catharsis of that recognition from aragorn but also the zoom in on frodo’s face at the end. frodo. fucking frodo baggins. he does not think of himself as the hero. make no mistake; he is a hero. but he does not believe that of himself and he probably never will. in this moment, all he sees is a crowd of people bowing to someone who does not deserve it, to someone who gave into the evil of the ring. someone who failed. 

and there is nothing that we the audience to do to dissuade him of this notion. all we can do is observe. i am going to claw my eyes out. 

6. “i'm glad to be with you, samwise gamgee...here at the end of all things.” well i started to tear up just typing that out so. there’s that i guess. don’t worry though i am completely fine!! 

anyways. as i said earlier. frodo and sam’s relationship is the soul of lotr and this scene, which sees them huddled together as the world literally burns around them, is exemplary of that. like they firmly believe that they are going to die BUT. they have each other. they have each other and fuck that is enough. after everything they’ve seen together, after this hellish journey they’ve been on, it is enough just to be together. something something the power of pure unconditional love something something “you’re going to die in your best friend’s arms.” you get it. you get it. 

7. this fucking scene. 

i just. i hate this. i fucking hate this so much. every time i watch this scene it’s like getting my still beating heart ripped out of my chest. elijah wood kills it here; that realization of oh god oh god it will be like this forever, and all the sadness that goes along with that, is clear on his face. he was probably already planning on leaving but if he had any doubts i do believe it was this interaction that erased them. and that’s just. well. horrific!!

Just saw on Twitter what happened to the Genshin Impact artist but I won't comment anything there because my account is closed for similar reasons: I love and create content for a het ship and the fandom I'm in loves to call it homophobic. Male character has shown canon interest on both genders (I headcanon him as pan) and there's absolutely no information on female character's sexuality but it seems fandom canonized the lesbian card for her by themselves, much like the last ask you've got.

I'll tell you: in no time het shippers will start to be as harassed as yaoi shippers, if not more. I know today yaoi gets more hate in general but there's a growing wave of people supposedly worried about homophobia attacking people for absolutely no reason. Seems like some yaoi/yuri shippers (not all) are using the same dudebro discourse of "don't ruin my fandom with gay stuff", but with het stuff in their cases. Both are disgusting behaviors and I feel sad it's happening with not enough people addressing this issue.

Alrighty I'm gonna stop you right there with trying to imply that dudebros harassing lgbt+ shippers with "don't ruin my fandom with gay stuff" is the same as the hate that het ship/shippers get. It is NOT the same. The former clearly comes from a place of homophobia. I don't doubt that het ships/shippers get hate and harassment too, they definitely do. But the hate that het ships get comes from a place of typical petty fandom crap like the ship conflicting with someone's otp or not aligning with someone's headcanon, etc. Meanwhile, the hate that yaoi/yuri ship/shippers get comes from genuine homophobes being disgusted and hateful towards the existence of same-sex ships and lgbt+ characters.

I just... idk man. I agree that het ship/shippers get harassed too. But please don't imply that they get harassed for the same reasons that lgbt+ ship/shippers do.

Also that Genshin artist did end up tweeting some genuine homophobic shit about the lgbt+ community in general, and some anti-fujoshi sentiments too so. Ofc fantis focused on the artist's m/f ship though, and not the actual troubling issue of the artist making and liking homophobic tweets. The issue wasn't the artist's ship but their behavior. And I don't fault you for not knowing that, I also thought it was over petty ship nonsense initially, until others pointed out their homophobic tweets. Do I think the artist should've been harassed? Nope. People should just unfollow, block and move on, that's what I did. So shame on anyone who sent the artist harassment though. However the artist did tweet/like some very hurtful tweets. It wasn't just over their het ship.

honestly he’s kind of a himbo fuckboy dudebro but he’s also a mama’s boy and he’s not intentionally mean usually or anything so like... give him a chance !!

he was super popular in high school and college, ur stereotypical star athlete. very charming, athletic, all the girls wanted him B)

as popular as he was, his parents are a little crazy. they’re both ‘functional’ alcoholics and ended up divorcing when peyton was eighteen. it was lowkey a huge mess and he hates thinking about it 🙈 his mom got custody and things r still a little awkward w/ dad but they stay in contact. kinda.

he was a bit of a troublemaker in high school bc of problems at home. he got into fights, snuck out, messed around, stupid teenage shit yknow. high school was crazy for pey but once the divorce was finally settled, he was in college and had the chance to mature a lot.

while he wasn’t getting into fights or doing extremely stupid shit anymore (just regular stupid shit), peyton was still ur basic fuckboy at university. he partied, slept around and uh. yes. he was in a frat at one point. he hated it LMAO

peyton was also on the school’s soccer team, which he had to keep his grades up for so he Does have a decent head on his shoulders even if he is a bit of a himbo. he has a good heart underneath it all i promise.

he ended up majoring in philosophy (which he rly had no idea what was going on most of the time) and tried to explore different things during college, but he never found anything that seemed to click. 

immediately after earning his degree, peyton decided to pack up his things and move to south korea on a whim in order to ‘find himself’. to do some soul searching, if u will. he has no idea what he wants to do with his life, and after being so adored in school, the world seems super fucking daunting to him. but he likes to hide his insecurities by being sexy. just cool guy things u know

he’s been in korea just for a few years now - currently he’s doing well as a bartender (yes he does brag about tips), and sometimes you’ll catch him singing and playing the guitar on the street when he’s bored out of his mind. he’s literally just some guy but he dresses and acts like he’s the dumbest coolest around and u know. sometimes he's right. but most of the time he’s just some guy
