Do you think I could get a little Duke Crocker blurb with the song prompt: "So thank you for taking a chance on me, I know it isn't easy, but I hope to be worth it"?

Duke has always felt lucky when it comes to you. Lucky that you walked into his life. Lucky that you didn’t walk straight back out. He comes with a lot of baggage, he knows that, he owns that. Sometimes it feels like it’s more than any one person can physically carry.
“Then share it with me,” You say one night. “Let me help you carry it.”
The two of you are sitting alongside each other on the deck of the boat, both bundled up in coats because the night, it’s gotten a little chilly. You’re sharing a couple of beers, watching the moonlight ripple over the waves as you look out across the harbour.
“You don’t want my troubles.” He tells you, his thumb peeling away the label of the beer bottle. “Nobody does.”
“How do you expect someone to love you if you won’t let them in?”  You say quietly as you tuck your hands into the pockets of your coat.
“Is that what your trying to do, love me?” He remarks dryly. You don’t say anything, you just stare out across the sea and that’s when he realises. “Do you love me?”
You don’t answer him and he understands that it’s an exchange, if he wants your secret, your truth, he needs to give you some of his own.
So he takes a chance and he tells you. He tells you about his family’s curse, the weight of it, how he struggles with it every single day. He tells you that he’s supposed to die at the hands of a man who wears the Guard ‘s tattoo, that he fears dying alone more than anything. He tells you everything and it feels good to get it off his chest, to share that burden with someone else.
In the aftermath there’s silence and honestly he doesn’t know what you can say to any of that so he simply sips from his beer and says nothing. He watches you as you stand up and for a moment he think s that you’re going to leave, that this is too much, that he is too much but you don’t. Instead you climb into his lap, your thighs bracketing his hips as your fingers run through his hair, guiding his head back so that you can look into his eyes.
“I love you Duke,”  You whisper against his lips. “I love you more than you could ever know.”

You Got All My Love - Duke Crocker Imagine (Haven)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Title: You Got All My Love
Pairing: Duke Crocker X Reader
Based On: All My Love
Word Count: 1,228 words
Warning(s): troubles, anxiety
Summary: Duke never expected to grow as close to someone as he was with (Y/n). The two of them were partners-in-crime, described as trouble by most people around them. Not that either of them had the energy to care. A story in three parts.
Author's Note: Shit. When was the last time I wrote about Duke?
STICK SEASON - NOAH KAHAN WRITING CHALLENGE MASTERLIST
--------------------------
Part One: The Troubles
I was eight at the time.
Eight.
What was meant to be a wonderful part of my childhood was anything but.
I was part of the 1983 plague of troubles.
My first memory of that phase of my life was at school. There were these kids who had decided that following me around and taunting me was the most exciting part of their day.
I did everything I could. I ignored them, I avoided them, I told the teachers. Nothing ever worked. Everyone was willing to look the other way for some reason. I had long since accepted that I would never find an answer that made me happy.
One day, I was just so angry and overwhelmed.
I couldn't fight, so I tried to run from them. I hit some patch of grass nearby and found myself on the ground. I curled in on myself, preparing for the worst.
Nothing happened.
It took a minute for me to lift my head.
My classmates were all around me. All of their eyes were wide, and they all were surrounding this perimeter around me.
I looked down at the grass. It was all dried. Dead. In a perfect circle around me.
I looked out at the group for help or answers. Anything really.
Even my teacher didn't help me. She just shooed the kids away and maintained a distance from me, telling me to stay exactly where I was.
I felt like I was there forever.
And then, one of the kids got out of the crowd. He ignored our teacher yelling for him to come back.
He stopped in front of me and held out his hand. I didn't move. I was scared that something would happen if I did.
He accepted that.
He sat down next to me on the grass and refused to move. He smiled as he introduced himself as Duke. I was trying to wipe away my tears as I told him my name.
Duke sat next to me while everyone else was staring at me and the teacher was calling my parents. He walked with me when my parents showed up and collected my stuff for me.
I remember my dad smiling at him, thanking him.
I remember waving at Duke as I left.
I was too young to think of what the future was going to hold for Duke and me.
Part Two: Partners in Crime
I wish I could say that I was confused when I heard something bounce off my window.
In all honesty, I would've been more worried if I didn't hear anything against the window.
I pulled open my blinds and smiled down at Duke, who waved up at me. I waved back before pulling on my shoes and jacket before climbing out to meet him.
We were stupid teenagers. This was what we were meant to do.
After that day in the playground, Duke and I became inseparable. Most people came to associate us with each other. Where one went, the other was probably following.
"Hey," Duke said just as I jumped forward to hug him. "Alright, knock me over, it's fine."
"Don't be a dick," I scoffed as I stepped back. "What's the plan tonight?"
"No idea," he shrugged before holding out a hand. "Come on."
I grinned, grabbing his hand and letting him drag me along with him.
I would've given anything to always feel the way I did around Duke. Safe and comfortable. I was able to completely be myself without any risk of judgment or fear of rejection.
That night, we ended up at the end of the dock. Both of us were lying on our backs, mumbling back and forth to each other about anything we could think of. We may have been lying on our backs, but we were looking at each other.
I was in the middle of rambling about something that had happened at school that day.
I was confused when Duke sat up suddenly. "You alright?"
"Yeah," he muttered, not looking at me. "My back just hurts."
"Getting old on me, Crocker?"
"Shut up," he chuckled.
I pushed myself up as I grinned at him.
He looked over at me again. I just smiled a bit wider, silently inviting him to talk.
I couldn't pinpoint the exact moment that something had changed. I just knew that it had. Something in his eyes looked different. Or the air around us had distinctly shifted. I wasn't sure of the source; I was just aware of it.
When Duke pressed his lips to mine, I froze.
I had wanted this to happen, yeah, but I never expected that it actually would. I thought the feelings had been completely one-sided. That he would never see me in exactly the same way that I saw him. But as I sat here, slowly kissing him back, I realized that I may have simply been blind.
He pulled back first, grinning softly at me. "I like you. A lot."
I smiled back. "I like you too, Duke. I have for a long time now."
"Are you telling me I wasted years waiting for the right moment?"
I chuckled at him. "It's okay. I wasted time too."
He tried to play it cool. Smirking and looking out at the water again.
I didn't miss the signs that he was very clearly not as cool as he seemed. His leg was shaking a bit and he kept popping his knuckles. Not to mention that he wouldn't look at me.
I bit back a smirked as I reached over and took his hand in mine before lying my head on his shoulder.
We spent most of the night like that. In silence.
And I wouldn't have changed a second of it.
Part Three: Checkpoints
I always knew that I would find my way back to Haven.
It was all a matter of time.
I'd like to think that Duke knew that too. That's why he wasn't angry when he saw me. He just pulled me into a hug like not a day had passed since we had last seen each other.
We spent days together when I got back.
Like nothing had happened.
It was nice. I had missed it.
We were up late one night. We were sitting on my little couch in the little place I was renting in town. Not many options in a place like Haven, but I made do.
"Can I ask you something," Duke spoke up during a dip in the conversation.
"Sure," I nodded. "What's up?"
"Where... Where are we," he asked. I tilted my head. "We were a couple when you left. We never really had a break-up... we seem to be okay now."
"I... I hadn't really thought about it," I shrugged. "I assumed you didn't want to go down that road after so long."
He shook his head. "I was trying to respect you. But I... I still have feelings for you, (Y/n). Couldn't quite shake them."
I smiled at him. There was a moment before I could speak up, "I couldn't either."
There was a pause.
"Well," he said, "would you like to go to dinner sometime?"
"An official date?"
"I've matured."
I laughed quietly. "I'd like that."
"Good," he nodded. "Good."
I reached over and grabbed his hand.
Yeah, this was good.

Can you do a Duke Crocker imagine, where you're Nathan's twin and you can't feel anything either? Like you've always hated Duke and he jokingly pats you on the back one day and like Nathan with Audrey's touches, she can feel it and starts making any excuse to get Duke to have any contact with her(high fives, random hugs, grabbing his arm when she almost "falls" ect.) And she ends up falling in love with him despite his past with her brother🥺sorry if that's too long
(A/N): I’ve fallen in love with this idea as soon as I got it in my ask box. Thank you so much for trusting me for writing it, dear! <3 I changed your examples of contacts the reader creates to try and make it more logical, so I hope you’ll like what I’ve come up with despite that.
Tumblr media
“Show me your teeth.”
You roll your eyes at your brother, Nathan. “I come to see you at work and that’s the first thing you say to me?”
He blinks a few times at you. “Sorry. Hi, (Y/N). Now show me your teeth.”
You reluctantly open your mouth wide, your brother taking his time to inspect each tooth that is very much still in place.
“Show me your hands.” You close your mouth and put your hands in front of you, turning them around a few times. “Now turn around.”
You give out a groan while you do as he says, already tired of these shenanigans.
“You don’t seem to be hurt anywhere. Good.” He gives you a bright smile, satisfied with his inspection. “Someone has to make sure you’re not bleeding or losing any members.”
You quirk an eyebrow at him. “And is someone making sure you’re not bleeding?” He loses his smile, already knowing what you’re gonna say. “That’s right. It goes both ways. Now show me your teeth, Nathan.”
“Don’t worry, (Y/N).” Audrey suddenly appears next to your brother, the blond putting her hand on his shoulder. “I checked him twenty minutes ago. He seems good.”
You notice him slightly tensing up under Audrey’s touch, his lips slightly stretching out into a small smile when he turns towards her. Nathan told you about Audrey’s specialty; how he manages to feel every single bit of touch she gives him. And though you feel a bit jealous of him, you also feel extremely happy for him. You’d do anything to be able to physically feel something, anything... even the breath of the wind against your face, but you can’t.
“Hey, (Y/N) is here!” Your expression falters down as soon as you recognize Duke’s voice from behind you, already seeing his large smirk inside your mind without even looking at him. “What a surprise!”
You give your brother a glare. “I thought you said he wouldn’t be here today?”
You’ve tried to avoid seeing Duke Crocker most of your life, always feeling pure annoyance whenever he’s in the same room as you, and as of now, you’ve managed to only see him a few times since childhood. You were also sure that you wouldn’t see him today, especially since Nathan told you that he wouldn’t be here.
“I didn’t think he would be.” Your brother turns his eyes towards Audrey, squinting them when he notices a knowing grin on her lips. “But I have a little idea why...”
“Ouch.” You turn your head towards Duke just as he comes to a halt next to you. “And here I thought we could be friends. What did I do to earn such hatred?”
You give him a hard smile. “Look in the mirror and you’ll have your answer.”
He gives out a dramatic gasp at your response, your brother giving out a loud laugh. “Good one!”
“Guys!” Audrey gives you all her ‘big eyes’. “Come on, can’t you get along for once?”
“Nah, it’s okay, Audrey.” Duke gives her a wink, not at all bothered by your remarks. “(Y/N) is just teasing me. She always does. Right, (Y/N)?”
You’re about to let out another remark when he abruptly pats your back, your words dying inside your throat as soon as you realized what happened.
You felt his hands on your back.
You tilt your head at Duke with pure confusion, the man staring back at you with the exact emotion. For once, you weren’t looking at him with annoyance or hatred, and it couldn’t exactly pinpoint why you suddenly weren’t.
“Audrey.” Your brother speaks up, the police officer giving the blond a hard look. “Why is he here?”
“Didn’t I tell you?” Audrey gives him an innocent look. “He’s gonna help us with the investigation.”
“He’s gonna ‘what’?!”
Duke looks away from you to send your brother a smirk. “Audrey said I’d be ‘useful’.”
You blink a few times, suddenly remembering where you are. “I find that unlikely.”
“Yeah, well...” He looks back at you, his smile not at all flinching. “You always do.”
You give him back a hard smile, though not as hard as you usually do. The feeling of his hands on your back still lingers there and partially clouds your mind. You can’t help but wonder if you’ve imagined it. You were thinking about your brother’s situation with Audrey... maybe you were wishing for the same thing so hard that your brain gave you a small exception?
“Anyway...” Duke claps his hands together, looking back towards Nathan and Audrey. “Are we gonna go or are we just gonna stand here like idiots?”
Your brother gives him a glare. “Audrey?”
“Yeah, let’s go.” She grabs her coat from her chair, sending you a smile on your way out. “You’re welcomed to join us, (Y/N).”
“Huh?” You blink in surprise, slowly starting to follow them. “Yeah... yeah, sure.”
“(Y/N) is willing to share a car ride with me?” Duke sends you a grin. “This must be my lucky day.”
“Don’t push it.”
He just laughs at your reaction, none of you noticing Nathan and Audrey exchanging whispering words.

You give a side gland towards Duke sitting next to you, your eyes carefully watching his face as he spits out a large number of words to annoy your brother more than he usually does. Normally you would have shut him up with one of your remarks by now, but the moment from earlier still obsess you. Forget how or why it happened, you have to know if you’ve imagined his touch or not... and there’s only one way to be sure.
“Ow!” You suddenly interrupt Duke by suddenly flicking your fingers against his cheek, his head snapping towards you as he holds his face with his hand. “Why did you do that?”
You ignore him and look down at your fingers, feeling a satisfying pain rushing through them. “... I just had an urge.”
You barely hear your brother laugh as Duke pouts about the pain you put him through, a small smile appearing on your lips as you realize that this is real. You can feel Duke’s touch. Would you have preferred someone else? Absolutely. Anyone but Duke would have been more than welcomed. But are you going to ignore this opportunity life is giving you? Hell no.
You’re gonna have fun with this.
“Oh, stop crying.” You poke his cheek just where you flicked your fingers earlier, a large grin forming on your lips when you feel his skin against yours. “I didn’t take you for a baby, Crocker.”
“What-stop poking me!” He pushes your hand away, a frown on his face as he hears Nathan chuckle in the front. “You’re lucky you can’t feel anything-”
He gets interrupted by your hands suddenly squishing his face away, confusing spreading on his features.
“What the hell are you doing?”
“Trying to shut you up.” You let go of his face, realizing that you might be going a bit too far. “But it’s not working.”
“Guys.” Audrey interrupts your conversation, Nathan still chuckling as he stops the car. “We’re here.”

It’s been more than a few minutes since you’ve arrived at the crime scene, Nathan and Audrey now currently questioning the witnesses. Why were you and Duke even around in the first place? You have no idea. But as the two of you wait around for them to finish, you decide to test your theory a little more.
“Ow!” Duke takes a step away from you as soon as he feels your shoe kicking his leg, his eyes squinting at you. “Okay, what is your problem?”
You lose your grin as soon as he says that. “It’s not obvious? You’re my problem.”
“Yeah, yeah... you hate me, I know. But you’ve never kicked me. Or poked me. Or squished my face.” He points at you, suspicion all over his features. “So what’s the sudden change, huh?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
You almost want to curse yourself at how fast you said those words, already knowing that he’s not going to believe that. You almost want to cringe when you see his lips stretch out into a large grin, already dreading the worst.
“Don’t tell me...” His smile gets wider, his excitement suddenly rising. “You actually like me!”
“What-no!” You frown, already shaking your head at him in disgust. “Ew! Never!”
“Aw, don’t deny it.” He approaches his face to yours, his annoying ‘charm’ turning on. “I knew you’d like me eventually. Everyone does-”
You shove his face away with your hands, muffling his words by doing so. “I will never ever like you.”
You truly believe those words, trying your best to ignore the tingling going through your skin after you touched his face. This is not going to change how you feel about Duke. You’ll make sure of it.
But Duke seems to be sure of something else, as he starts to laugh while he gently puts your hands away from his face.
“Whatever helps you sleep at night, Wuornos.” He gives you a knowing smile. “But I know the truth.”
You realize that you’ve let him hold onto your hands, your mind to enraptured by the feeling of it to let you do anything about it until now. You suddenly pull them back towards you, sending him a glare.
“In your dreams, Duke.”
“Already happened.”
You give out a gagging sound while you walk away from him, his laugh resonating in your ears. You were hoping there wasn’t a blush creeping up on your cheeks, having never been able to feel the heat of it. What you could feel was your heartbeat getting incredibly louder inside your chest, your mind already screaming at it to stop.
This is one of the many reasons why you try so hard to avoid Duke. You try your best to hate him, to despise him... and you do... until you get to spend time with him, and then you have to beat yourself up to hate him again. You don’t want to like him, not after what happened between him and your brother all those years ago... and you’re not gonna let his stupid feeling exception put all of your past efforts to crumble.
So why are you not quite believing that?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“Boo.”
You give out a scream when you hear Duke suddenly whisper that word in your ears, already pushing him away from you. “What the hell?!”
“Aw, did I scare you?” He gives you a grin. “Sorry... not sorry!”
You glare at him, feeling your hands starting to tingle from having just pushed him. It’s been a week since you’ve felt anything, having realized that it wasn’t worth risking your brother’s trust. So you’ve started to avoid the crooked criminal again, and it worked. Until now.
Gosh, why did you have to go on a walk today?
“What do you want?”
“To bother you. I think it’s a good payback from last time.” He shrugs, his words already making you groan in annoyance as you start walking away. “I also wanted to see how you were doing. You know? With the whole ‘liking me’ thing?”
“I don’t like you.”
“Hm. Right.” He snaps his fingers before he points at you. “You love me.”
You suddenly stop in your tracks, sending him a glare. “I do not love you!”
He just gives you a large grin as an answer, as if he knew something you didn’t, which only seems to make you angrier.
“What?”
“You’re pretty when you’re mad-ow!” He rubs his arms after you hit it, his grin coming back soon after. “See? You like me!”
You shake your head at him. “How is me hitting you proof that I like you?”
“I don’t know... maybe the fact that you’re blushing?” Your eyes open wide, your hands immediately going to your cheeks to try and feel the heat: but as usual, nothing. “If you don’t believe me, I can fetch a mirror for you.”
“I’m not blushing.” You walk away from him, deciding to just deny everything. “You’re lying.”
“But I’m not!” He follows you close behind, forcing you to stop walking when he suddenly jumps in front of you. “Come on... why are you denying it?”
You glare at him once more. “I don’t need to deny things that don't exist.”
“Is liking me that much of a bad thing?” His question takes you by surprise, and you can almost sense a glint of pain in his eyes. “You don’t have to hate me just cause your brother does, you know?”
“Are you not hearing me when I talk?” You poke his shoulder with your finger, slightly pushing him away. “I. Don’t. Like. You.”
“But I like you.”
You stare at him in shock, your words choking in your throat. “... what?”
“I said I like you.” He puts his hands in his jeans’ pockets, seeming a little less confident than before. “I always have, and I know you like me... so why won’t you just give me a chance?”
“I...” You give out a sigh, rubbing your face with your hands. “Why do you keep saying that I like you?”
He lightly chuckles. “Why did you suddenly start touching me so much?”
“Because...” You hesitate for a second, then give out another sigh. “Cause I can feel you, okay?”
He stares at you for a second, confusion in his eyes. “Huh?”
“When you pat my back the other day.” You cross your arms over your chest, a sense of embarrassment going through you. “I felt that, but I wasn’t sure it was real... so that’s why I kept hitting you and all.”
“... you can feel me?”
“Yeah.” You notice the glint of an idea going through his eyes, frowning. “What are you thinking, Crocker?”
“So if I do this...” Your eyes widen when he suddenly takes your hand in his, his lips stretching out into a grin. “... you can feel that?”
You feel a shot of electricity running through your arm, watching his fingers intertwine with yours. “... what are you doing?”
“What if I do this....” You shut your eyes close when you suddenly feel his other hand against your cheek, his fingers gently pushing a strand of hair away from your face. “... can you also feel that?”
You feel the warmth of his skin against yours, a shudder running down your spine for the first time in your entire life. You open your eyes again, now seeing him getting dangerously closer. “Duke... seriously...”
“What about this?”
You’ve never been able to feel what a kiss feels like before that moment, your mind screaming the moment you felt his lips on yours. Every little movement he made, every touch of his fingers against your skin felt like little explosions that had dangerous consequences for your heart. You couldn’t think anymore, all you could do was feel, and when he parts away a few seconds later, you can barely hear him talk.
“Did you feel that?”
“I...” A stutter threatens to come out, your free hand slowly raising so you can point at him. “... I hate you...”
He gives out a grin at your answer, noticing the tremble in your voice. “Really? I beg to differ-ow!” He gives out a laugh when he realizes that you’ve hit his shoulder yet again. “Well, I guess you definitely felt that.”
You try to wipe his touch away from your lips, without any use. “Don’t do that again.”
“Alright, I’ll do that again.” He gives out a larger grin. “As many times as you want.”
“You know that’s not what I said!” You realize that you’re still holding his hand, and so you try to free yourself, but without any success. “Duke, let go of my hand.”
“Nope.”
“Let go of my hand!”
“Not until you agree that you like me.” You give out a groan, which only seems to make his grin wider. “I’m waiting...”
“Fine!” You shake your head before you glare at him. “I like you. Satisfied?”
“Very.” He lets go of your hand, a sense of disappointment washing over you when he does. “Now... are you free tonight?”
You squint your eyes at him. “... why?”
“So I can take you on a proper date.”
You stare at him for a few seconds, then give out a sigh. “... you’re not gonna take ‘no’ as an answer, are you?”
His lips stretch out. “Does that mean you’re saying ‘yes’?”
You hated him. You’ve always hated him, just like your brother did. You swore this newfound discovery wouldn’t change anything... but gosh, it did. And there’s nothing you can do about it.
“Yeah.” You give out a sigh. “Yeah... I guess I can go on a date with you.”
“Yes!”
You can’t help but chuckle when you see him throw his fist up in the air in victory.
And you know, maybe... just maybe... this little exception is a hint that this is destiny.

Touch - Duke Crocker
Rating: T
Words: 3K
Working at The Grey Gull was the best decision She could have made. Coming to Haven was a close second, but the Gull was beginning to feel safe. She’d only been there a week, but Duke and Audrey had a way of making her feel less anxious. When she first arrived in Haven, she had hidden from the world, wearing long sleeves, hoodies, gloves, whatever she could to cover any inch of visible skin. Working with Duke though, that changed her. He taught her how to avoid people and still be able to be comfortable in the clothes she decided to wear. She still wore the gloves though, too afraid not to.
Of course Duke eventually asked about her trouble. Why come to Haven if you weren’t troubled. It’s not like people were taking vacations to Haven, Maine, spook central. She tried explaining it but that wasn’t enough for Duke Crocker.
“I don’t believe you can drop a man with emotions.” She wanted to laugh, she really did. Except she knew just how well her trouble worked.
“I’m telling you Duke, you don’t want to experience it.”
“Except I really, really do.” He gave her that crooked smile with that wicked glint in his eyes and she caved. She felt Duke’s eyes on her the rest of the night but she said nothing. The minute the doors of the Gull were locked, Duke was standing in front of her reaching for her gloved hands.
“Wait, Duke.” She took a deep breath, trying to put into words exactly what was going to happen when she touched him. “When I touch you, not only will you feel what I feel, but you’ll feel it ten times as strong as I do.”
“That can’t be all bad,” he interrupted her. She figured he wouldn’t listen to what she was saying until he experienced it, so she motioned for him to sit down while she removed her gloves. Once he was sitting, she tried to think where to touch him. She settled for his arm, right below where his sleeves were rolled up.
“I’m not saying this won’t hurt, but it won’t be pleasant at all.” Before Duke could rattle off some sentence like ‘I can take it” she placed her palm flat against his skin, fingers wrapping around right below his elbow. His eyes went wide, his breath catching in his lungs, face white as a sheet. She held it there for only a second before Duke’s eyes closed and he slumped over in the chair. She removed her hand, hastily putting her gloves back on before adjusting him to where his head was resting on the table.
She grabbed a glass of water and a cold rag from the kitchen. Some of the people she had touched since the troubles returned woke up nauseous or just straight up puked the minute they regained consciousness. Duke was beginning to stir as she returned to the table. She placed the glass of water directly in front of him, placing the cold rag on his neck. She made sure the only contact she had was through her gloves. She didn’t know what would happen to someone if she touched them with bare skin back to back, and she wasn’t about to find out with her new boss.
“I told you, it’s not fun.”
“Fuck, that’s what you feel? All day?” He was sitting up now, the rag falling from his neck as he took a swig from the glass of water. All She could do was nod, trying to hide the embarrassment rising on her cheeks. He must have noticed because he began to reach for her, stopping short of her wrist, “Why do you carry so much anxiety?”
“I constantly have to worry about if I’m going to make people pass out, just from my touch Duke. I have to constantly be vigilant. If I focus really really hard, I can handle passing glances with only minimal emotional transfer. What you just felt is what happens if I let my guard down for even a second.”
“I’m sorry. Is there anything I can do, to help with the anxiety?” She couldn’t help the smile rising on her face. Of course he would want to help her. Pure, selfless Duke always thinking about others. She knew, from stories, that he hasn’t always been this was. Apparently Nathan and Audrey had been really good for him.
“I just, I can keep the wall up as I call it, during the day. But when I’m done with work, and we just relax and have a drink, that’s when it’s really hard. Just promise me you won’t touch me without warning? I couldn’t handle it if something happened to you because of me.” Duke nodded, drinking from his glass of water again. “I’m gonna head back to the hotel. This has been an interesting day.”
As she was grabbing her things to leave, she could feel Duke’s eyes following her every move. Ignoring it was easy at first as she had to gather everything up but when she began to head to the door, she couldn’t ignore it any longer. “Did i do something wrong?”
“No, of course not,” he replied quickly, shaking his head as if to gather his thoughts. “I just, uh, if you’re planning on staying in Haven, you should really have a proper place to live.”
“I’ve been looking, but surprisingly the market isn’t that great here,” she ended on a laugh, her bag beginning to slip off of her shoulder. “I live on a boat,” Duke stated. When he didn’t continue she nodded, a soft “I know” leaving her lips. “I live on a boat, and I have like 4 spare rooms. You could rent one of those if you wanted? It's got a kitchen and a couple bathrooms and everything?”
“Knowing what I can do,” she gestured to her gloved hands, “you not only want me to work with you, but you want to share a living space with me?” WHen Duke simply nodded, she shook her head as she readjusted her bag strap. “Don’t say I didn’t warn you. I’ll check out of the hotel in the morning.” With that, Duke offered her a ride to what would be her new home. As Duke helped her into the truck, she made sure he only came into contact with the covered parts of her arms.
Duke showed her around the boat, showing her which room and bathroom would be hers. He was pleasantly surprised when the extra rooms all had sheets and blankets with them. She honestly expected just a mattress and a random throw blanket he had lying around. Once he was done showing her the rest of the boat, he decided he was going to head to bed. She figured he was exhausted from the night's events. Knowing she should get some sleep instead of exploring, her curiosity got the better of her. She changed into loose pajama pants and a tank top before heading to the kitchen to make a drink.
Exploring the boat was actually scarier than she expected it to be. She didn’t remember which floor she was on now but she knew she’d gotten turned around. The hallway she was in was dark so she ran the hand not holding her drink against the wall looking for a light switch, or honestly a switch of any kind. She followed the wall until she found the steps leading up. She ascended them in darkness, her heart beating so loud she assumed the neighbors could hear it.
When she was back on level ground, she reached around, sure she had to be in the common or kitchen area. Instead of a counter or couch, she touched a bare chest, not able to silence the scream that tore from her throat. Whoever she had touched dropped to the ground in a heap, no more than a strangled noise making it from their throat.
Trying to quell the panic rising in her chest, she eventually found a counter, setting her drink down and flipping any switch she could get her fingers on. The lights came on just as the person on the floor began to stir. Her panic ebbed away as she realized the person was none other than Duke. She ran to him, kneeling next to him and reaching for him. She caught her hands at the last second, sitting down on the cold floor and tucking them into her pajama bottoms to prevent any further urge to touch.
Duke was sitting up now, leaning against one of the couches she was looking for. He pushed the hair out of his face, gathering it into the band around his wrist and tying it low on his head. When he was done he just looked at her and laughed.
“Remind me to never, ever scare you again.” His laughter was breathless and it did weird things to her stomach that she tried desperately to ignore.
“I’m so sorry Duke,” she began apologetically. “You were supposed to be asleep and I was just looking around. I wasn’t snooping, just getting a feel for the place.”
“I don’t know if you’ve ever been on a boat before, but there's absolutely nothing you can’t hear on here.” She laughed, not able to help the nervous energy rolling off of her. Duke got to his feet, offering her a hand and then thinking better of it. She used the couch and the space he had given her to get back to her feet before offering an awkward goodnight and heading towards what she hoped was her room.
From that night on, she never walked the boat without making sure Duke knew first. It had been a couple of months since that night and luckily, they had had no more accidental touching and passing out. She worked full time at the Gull and when she wasn’t working she was either with Duke on the boat, or Audrey and Nathan working on cases. In the past month they began to realize that her trouble wasn’t all bad. If she focused hard enough, she could use her trouble to calm other people. It came in handy the most when other troubled people were dealing with anxiety, fear or even grief. She’d worked a few cases so far, and almost every case she was able to keep the person calm long enough for Audrey and Nathan to explain what was going on and how to fix it.
She had just got back from helping with someone’s fire trouble when she found Duke sitting on the deck of the boat, two drinks in hand. He offered her one without a word. She accepted, setting her bag down before flopping in a chair next to Duke. They had developed a close enough friendship that silences like this were comfortable. SHe enjoyed just being near him, his presence having some sort of calming effect on her. She noticed the more time she spent with Duke, the less anxiety she actually felt.
On extremely busy nights, leading to some of the worst anxiety she had experienced, they would just sit on the boat and share a drink in the quiet of the night. By the time they said their goodnights, she didn’t feel even an ounce of anxiety. SHe told Duke as much, when the thought popped into her head.
“You still avoid me like the plague,” he offered, his beer tipped towards her. She couldn’t figure out what was different tonight. He wasn’t drunk. They’d been there before. He wasn’t angry or sad from what she could tell, but there was something lurking behind those brown eyes that she couldn’t put her finger on.
“Duke, I don’t avoid you. I just, you don’t understand what it’s like.” She tried desperately to keep the irritation from her voice, but the look on Duke’s face said she didn’t succeed.
“You’re right, I don’t. But that isn’t for lack of trying.” SHe could hear the tone in his voice changning and the last thing she wanted after a long day was to argue. They’d had their fair share of arguments over the past months but never over her trouble. Or his trouble for that matter.
“Duke, it’s been a long day. I’ve told you everything I know about this trouble. I don’t know what more you want.” She rose from the chair, her beer discarded on the floor, preparing to head to bed, that being her last word on the subject.
“If you don’t have anxiety around me anymore, why do you pull away anytime I almost touch you?” He reached for her then, proving his point as she recoiled like she’d been burned.
“Duke. I literally wear my heart on my sleeve. I can’t have any emotion without worrying if someone is going to feel it, to know how i feel all the time, or worse. What if I’m having a bad day and we touch, Duke? I can’t be the reason you drop stone cold in the middle of a work day.”
“Sometimes I just wanna know how you feel.” His voice was so quiet she almost didn’t hear it. Their beers were long forgotten next to their seats, too focused on the conversation at hand. “You never talk about how you’re feeling. So sometimes the urge to know is just there. I eventually pull away because I can see what the thought of me touching you does. I just,” he trailed off and she had no idea what she could say to make the situation better.
“You wanna know how I feel?” she decided on, and Duke just nodded so she pushed forward, afraid she would chicken out if she didn’t get it all out right now. “Promise me I’ll still have a job once you know?” He tried interrupting but she put her hand up, “Just promise me Duke.”
“I promise.” She didn’t wait for him to say anything else, just reached out and touched his arm. It was just a bare touch at first, just so he could get a taste of the emotions warring inside of her. When he didn’t pull away she pressed her hand firmly against his arm. She held it there for two, three seconds before pulling away, afraid of what would happen if she kept her hand on him.
Duke was still sitting upright when she was done, eyes kind of glassy but still open. She said nothing, just sat back down in her chair and watched as Duke processed all of the emotions she just threw at him. After several minutes of silence, she couldn’t take it anymore so she just started talking.
“I know the more you're exposed to it, the less it affects you. Probably why you didn’t pass out this time. And I wasn't terrified or anxious. I can’t promise those emotions won’t make you pass out.” Duke was staring at her and now she felt fear. She’d kept to herself for the past few months because if he knew how she felt, that she was in love with him, their friendship would be over. He’s in love with Audrey and She knows that, knows that she can never have him. But the longer she spent with him, the harder it was not to love him. Duke tried to act like he was this bad guy, but she saw beneath that exterior to the heart of gold within. And well, once you’ve seen Duke Crocker’s heart, it was next to impossible not to love him.
“That was,” he looked around as if trying to figure out what he wanted to say. He stood abruptly, grabbing her hand, tugging until she was standing with him as well.
“Duke, don’t.” But he just shushed her, holding onto her hand like his life depended on it. His eyes were no longer glassy but she could tell he was still feeling what she felt. She tried to put a lid on her emotions, lessen what he was feeling but when he was touching her, holding her hands, it was next to impossible. SHe knew he could feel the love rolling off of her in waves and she would have to deal with what happened next.
“Can you feel me?” His voice was strained but determined.
“I’ve never tried. Been too afraid.”The curiosity had always been there, if her trouble worked both ways. She’d never tried it, for fear of overwhelming the poor soul who agreed to help her.
“Try now.” She could hear the desperation in his voice so she focussed, digging through the emotions she was feeling. From what she could tell, they were all hers. She didn’t feel anything unfamiliar. SHe continued searching, trying to find something that didn't belong to her. Right when she was about to give up, a wave of affection hit her. She didn’t know how or why, but she knew that belonged to Duke.
“Duke,” she tried to speak but more emotions began to flood her senses, more affection, love, admiration and so many others she couldn’t name. She basked in the feelings, not even trying to hide the smile on her face. “Are those?”
“Mine,” he interrupted. “They’re mine.” A laugh bubbled out of her throat, a little wet with the tears she was holding back. She wanted to say so many things, but Duke released her hand, cupping her jaw and forcing her to meet his eyes. “I know,” he said as if he could understand her. And she guessed, like this, with all of the contact between them, that he could understand everything she couldn’t say. “When I’m projecting what I feel, it doesn’t overwhelm my senses as much. Kinda puts us on an even playing ground.” She couldn’t help the smile on her face, or the sparkle in her eyes.
“I need to know,” she broke off before she could finish, the smile falling from her lips at what she was about to say next. Duke said nothing, still holding her hands, giving her the time she needed to gather her thoughts. “What about Audrey?”
“Audrey,” he questioned, like she had no reason to worry about her. “I’m not in love with Audrey. I thought I was but then I met you. It’s like I was waiting for you.” She didn’t even try to hide her sigh of relief. She was smiling again, and now Duke’s face matched her own. “I don’t know when it happened, but it did. I’m in love with you.”
She couldn’t believe Duke was the first one to say it but she was so grateful he did. “I’m in love with you too, even though that goes without saying,” she gestured to where their hands were still laced together. “I know, the more we touch, you’ll eventually get used to the wave of emotions, hopefully,” she ended in a laugh.
“I’m willing to find out if you are.” Before she could even speak a reply, Duke’s lips were on hers, his hands snaking around her back to come to rest just below her butt. He lifted and out of instinct she wrapped her legs around his back so she didn’t fall. She knew there was no way he was getting them down the stairs like this, but she didn’t care at that moment. Duke continued to kiss her as he laid her down on one of the many tables on the deck. He pulled back with a smile before trailing kisses down her neck, pushing her shirt to the side to reach her collar bones.
“As much as I love where this is going, I would really love it if our first time was not on a dock where anyone could see us.” Duke just laughed before stepping back, offering a hand to help her up. He continued to hold her hand, even going down the ladder, only letting go when he ushered her into the room and locked the door behind them. She had no idea where her trouble would take her, but she was glad Duke was the one she would be finding it out with.

The rain was coming down hard, and lightning crashed across the horizon when you heard a knock at the door. “Who is it?” You called, walking toward the front door.
“It’s Duke. Can you let me in please before I drown out here?” You laughed to yourself and rushed to the front door and quickly opened it to find Duke standing out in the rain completely drenched.
“Come in, quick!” you laughed, quickly moving out of his way so he could come inside and so he couldn’t brush past you as he came in. You closed the door behind him.
“Let me get you a towel so you aren’t dripping water everywhere.” You said as you walked past him and towards the bathroom.
“Thanks Y/N.” He called after you.
“So why didn’t you just go home to your boat?” You asked as you tossed him the towel and went back to get another one to wipe up the floor with.
“My jeep won’t start and I thought as landlord I could persuade my way into a warm space and possibly a towel.” He smiled and ran his fingers through his soaked hair and you felt your heart jump like it always does when he gives you that award winning smile.
“Well no, persuasion needed. You’re more than welcome to stay as long as you like and wait out the storm; as landlord I think you’re entitled to that and maybe some dinner as well. I made some garbage soup; I can pour you a bowl if you want.”
“Wait Garbage soup?”
“Its something my grandmother taught me it’s just whatever odds and ends I had in the fridge all in one pot.” You said walking towards the kitchen and Duke followed you, the plush towel wrapped around his soaking body.  You grabbed a bowl from the cabinet and turned back to the stove and started pouring scoopfuls of soup into the bowl; when Duke came up beside you making you jump instantly. You quickly took a step to the side to gain just a bit more space between you and him, hoping that you weren’t too obvious.
But it didn’t go unnoticed by Duke; who left your side and went to sit on the other side of the counter. You slid over the bowl to him, making sure he wasn’t in touching distance. “Okay now you eat that and I’ll go see if I have anything big enough for you to change out of those wet clothes.” You said slipping out of the kitchen and towards the bedroom to find a shirt and hopefully some pants for him. As you rifled through your drawers, you heard a creak in the floor and turned to find Duke standing in front of you; his eyes intense.
“Duke? What are you-” but he cut you off immediately when he reached for your hand, you tried to retch back but he was too quick, his large warm hand engulfed yours and entwined his fingers with yours. You tried to pull your hand away but it was too late you watched as his eyes glazed over your emotions amplified running rampant through him. You watched in horror as he grasped his chest and fell to his knees.
“Duke!” You screamed, and was finally able to retch your and out of his; pulling the sleeves of your sweater over your hands and stepping back till your back hit the wall.
When Duke finally came back around you saw tears in his eyes as he looked up a you through thick lashes.
“Y/N.” He croaked out, and slowly got back up to his feet.
“What the hell did you do that for!” you screamed at him, feeling like lunging at him and kicking him while he’s down; but the idea of what just happened happening again kept you against the wall. Desperately wanting it to swallow you up and become a permanent barrier between you and the man before you.
“I had to know.” He said, looking ashamed of himself. “I’m sorry Y/N, but I had to know.”
“Know what?” You asked, puling yourself closer to yourself.
Duke got to his full height and took a hesitant step towards you, his eyes dark and full of intensity. “I had to know that you felt what I did. I had a feeling but I could never have imagined what I just felt. And you’ve been keeping this to yourself for so long because you were afraid, I’d find out, didn’t you?” He asked but you didn’t answer, he took another step towards you. “You can’t lie to me, Y/N. Not after what I just felt right there, it brought me to my knees but you’ve been shouldering it for so long.”
“Why do you care?” you asked in a shaky voice.
“Because it’s taken me this long to find out that I feel exactly like you do, I’m only sorry that its taken me this long to figure it out.” He took that last step and was standing in front of you. “Why did you never tell me before?” He said reaching out for your face but you turned feeling like you couldn’t handle another one of his touches again.
“When your emotions are literally on your sleeve for the world to know about by just a simple touch, it’s hard to knowing that you’ll never be reciprocated in kind. That I’ll never know anyone’s true feelings about me but I’m constantly open to the world to nit and pick at. I could have told you from day one wit just a brush of your hand and there were days when I thought about and God… did I think about it. But, I couldn’t take it if you recoiled from what you felt.” You said feeling yourself slump just slightly against the wall.
Duke reached for you and cupped your face, immediately feeling that rush of love, admiration and desire once again. “How could I ever recoil from this? This feeling, its unlike anything I’ve ever felt before.” He purred, and you watched as he drank in your emotions your love for him. You reached out hesitantly for him and placed your hands on his chest, feeling his heat through his semi-wet shirt.
“Take it off.” You breathed.
Duke didn’t waste a second and stripped off his shirt for you, watching you intently to see what you’ll do next.
You placed your hands back against his skin, feeling him under your fingers and you could hear Duke sigh as he felt your emotions flood him again, as your fingers traced everything, wanting to know every groove, divot, and scar in his lean torso.  You traced your fingers up to his collarbones and then felt his arms wrap around you, his fingers stilling on your back for only a moment before they started to move across your back in soothing motions. You felt tears form at your eyes, at the contact, loving the feel of someone touching you, someone cradling you close to them and you doing the same to them. So long you had spent keeping yourself at a distance, fearing people and their judgement; but all the while still craving human contact, the need to be close to someone.
Duke looked down at your face and wiped away the tears from your face, not questioning them because he knew all too well why they were there. He knew so well that tears formed on his own face and you wiped them from his face in kind. His long fingers went to the hem of your sweater and pulled up taking both the sweater and the shirt underneath it.
“No more hiding from me Y/N.” He said in a soft voice as he discarded both the sweater and shirt leaving you bare to him. It was like he was linked to you, almost as if the longer he kept touching you the more it felt like his mind was melding with yours. He took you and held you close to his chest, feeling how warm to the touch he was despite being soaked only about twenty minutes ago. He gripped your chin and brought it up so he could kiss you, his mouth soft but commanding as he slipped his tongue in with yours, you moved your hands up so they wrapped around his neck, fingers playing with the dried curls at the end of his hair. He lowered himself and grabbed your ass and picked you up, carrying you to the nearby bed and placing you down softly, not breaking contact. Both of you drunk on each other.
He hovered over you; his lips moved from yours to your cheek; kissing both sides earning a light giggle from you as his stubble tickled your cheeks. His kisses went to your jaw and kissed under your chin, before trailing down to your throat, to your collarbones; then to your breasts. He licked around one of your nipples while his other hand was kneading the other, you arched your back into his touch as he sucked on your nipple, wanting him closer.
You reached down and began unbuckling his pants, needing more than just touches; needing him to be melded with you. You heard him growl, as he felt what your fingers were doing, and reached one of his hands down to help you. You helped him quickly get his pants off, laughing a bit as they got stuck around one of his ankles. He didn’t have that kind of trouble with yours though, with expert hands he grabbed the top of your sweatpants and pulled down slowly, letting the tips of his fingers trace down your legs as he pulled them off; you arched your hips slightly to help him out and then they were in a pile with the rest of your clothes. Duke looked down at you, licking his lips as he traced every place his eyes went with his long fingers.
“You’re so beautiful Y/N.” He breathed, his fingers flowing softly over your stomach and going lower. “So soft.” He breathed, kissing you and eating your gasps as you felt his fingers trace your folds with two of his fingers, before slowly slipping them inside of you working you slowly, his thumb tracing small circles on your clit making you arch into him and his deft fingers. “So wet.” He grinned, letting his tongue invade your senses as he brought you closer to the edge as his fingers increased their pace as they pumped you.
“Duke.” You whimpered, holding onto his hair, pulling the long strands of his hair as you felt yourself coming so close to your edge…only for Duke to pull away from you. “Duke, why did-” you were beginning to say before Duke cut you off by thrusting himself inside of you, immediately making you fall over that edge that he was building earlier. Duke groaned as he stilled inside of you, feeling you clench around him. “Sorry baby, I couldn’t wait any longer; I just needed to be inside you.” He said pushing your hair from your forehead as he watched as you came down from your first orgasm, only to start moving inside you.
You let out a sharp gasp, already feeling sensitive to the touch, you gripped onto Duke’s back your feet locking around his waist, feeling him go deeper inside of you; making both of you groan at the new sensation. Duke’s lips were on yours giving you sloppy open-mouthed kisses as he thrusted inside of you, picking the pace up to what feels like a dangerous speed; feeling that another wave was going to crash over you soon.
“Y/N.” Duke, breathed against your neck, kissing the skin there; then sucking harshly making you moan. “Cum for me baby. Be mine, Y/N.”
Suddenly, you felt the wave of your second orgasm crash over you, pulling harshly on Duke’s hair. Duke was soon to follow you and you felt his weight on top of you as he slumped down onto you.
He rested his face in your neck, placing a kiss on your neck and inhaling you. You kept your fingers in his hair, but instead of pulling harshly, you gently twirled the small strands; before Duke pulled his face away from your neck and kissed you again. You reached up and cupped his beautiful face, tracing his cheekbones and his soft lips with the pad of your thumb. Loving the feel of his touch on your skin.

Always Have - Duke Crocker x Fem!Reader
Duke returns after 6 months of being gone after he jumped into the barn, and you’re there to make sure he’s back.
A/N: Set at the beginning of S4:))
Y/N = Your Name
Tumblr media
—————————
6 months.
It had been 6 months since you’d last seen him, and the whole time you’d wondered to yourself how he’d just disappeared after going into that barn. Neither him nor Audrey were anywhere to be seen. How could he just leave like that? So quickly. You vowed to yourself that you’d tell him how you feel if you ever saw him again. About how you loved his snarky jokes, his messy hair, his ability to make you feel safe when death was certain. You needed to tell him because you’d never realised how much you wanted it. Even if he didn’t like you like that, it was always worth a shot. But now? You didn’t know whether your shot had disappeared for good.
——————————
Arla and Duke stood outside the barn; You, Nathan and Audrey still inside. Duke’s gun pointed in Arla’s direction as he attempted to keep her from going inside. Arla kept seeing Duke glance backwards at the barn’s door, his face a mixture of worry and desperation.
“You love her, don’t you?” Arla cocked her head to one side with a smirk. She saw Duke’s face remain stoic, and she furrowed her brow. He didn’t love Audrey like everyone thought he did.
“Oh. You like the other one? Huh. Who would’ve guessed? The one everyone forgets. The one no one really seems to noti-”
“You shut up.” Duke points the gun at her and moves closer. “You don’t get to say anything about her. You don’t know her. You don’t even get to say her name.”
“Y/N.” Arla drags out, smiling at him. Duke moves closer, putting the gun by his side. He goes to say something when the sound of the footsteps of The Guard distract him.
“Duke! Go get her.” Nathan shouts as the barn begins to disappear. Duke looks between you, Nathan, and the barn. He gives you one last look before diving into the blue smoke of the barn. It expands and then completely disappears. You run to the spot where he was, in shock as to where he went. The smoke just sucked him in and took him away, completely disappeared.
“Duke? Duke? Duke!” You shout, putting a hand to your face as tears began to roll down your cheeks. You feel Nathan’s arms around you. A feeling of resent washes over you. Nathan’s command echoes in your head - “Duke! Go get her.” He’s the reason Duke is gone. He’s the reason you might never see him again.
“Get off me.” You push Nathan’s arms off you roughly, stalking away from him. You turn your back away, trying to think of a way to get him back.
—————————-
Present
You get into the car with Dwight, nerves making your hands shake so much you can barely close the door. The call you’d gotten 2 minutes ago about Nathan Wuornos, Duke Crocker and an unknown women driving around the streets of Haven couldn’t be true. Nathan knew better than to come back to Haven. The Guard wanted his head, and they would stop at nothing to get it.
Duke.
He was gone, he had to be. He’d been gone for 6 months, without a trace. He couldn’t have gone anywhere after jumping in that barn, you’d pondered over it since he’d gone; and come to the conclusion that he had to be dead.
“Hey, you good?” Dwight asked, looking over at you and briefly resting his hand on your arm.
“Yeah...yeah. I’m fine.” You said calmly, focusing on the road ahead of you. You pulled around the corner and saw three people stood with their hands in the air. Dwight stopped the car and you shot out, coming to the front of the car.
“Duke?” You said quietly. One of the figures turned around and your knees felt weak. He was there, hands in the air, a shocked look across his face.
“Y/N?” He asked, his hands falling to his sides.
You ran to him, despite the various shouts of people telling you that all guns were currently pointed in the direction you were headed. You didn’t care. You ran until you collided with him, you arms wrapping around his neck and hands going to his hair. You put your head on his shoulder and held him close. His arms went around you completely and his face buried into your hair. You smiled and gripped him tightly once more before pulling away, and bringing a hand to his face to make sure he was real. You realised what you were doing and where you were and quickly pulled away, muttering a sorry before standing back slightly. You almost thought Duke looked a little disappointed. Dwight began talking to The Guard, removing his bullet-proofing so no one could be shot, as his trouble attracted all bullets towards him. You saw Duke let out a visible sigh of relief once all the guns were put down. You made eye contact with him, and you offered him a slight smile; which he returned. It was a small gesture that meant a lot.
————————-
It was dark now. The day had been exhausting, both physically and mentally. You needed to go home and sleep. You followed Duke back to the bar, and he immediately went to the dock and into his boat.
“Shit.” You whispered under your breath, completely forgetting about your situation. You followed him quickly in order to explain. You care through the rusty door and saw Duke stop in the middle of the floor and look around. Your clothes were hanging over the backs of chairs and strewn across the floor. The bed was crumpled, and the side table was filled with various objects that certainly weren’t his. He turned around slowly, coming to look at you.
“Duke, I can explain-”
“You lived here?” He cut in, shocked. You even thought you could sense a hint of happiness in his tone.
“My...um...my apartment was destroyed in the meteor shower before the barn disappeared. I didn’t have any place to go, and you...you weren’t here so I thought I’d crash here.” You paused for a moment. “I’m so sorry Duke. I didn’t have anywhere else to go and I promise that all my stuff will be gone by morning. I’m so sorry.” You begin to shuffle around, grabbing what you could see. Duke moves forward, grabbing your forearm.
“Y/N. Stop. It’s okay, I don’t mind. What else could you do? It’s fine. You can stay here as long as you want until you find a place, I’ve got a spare room.” He smiled at you, his hand still wrapped around your arm. You stayed like for a few seconds before he looked down at his hand and quickly pulled it away, clearing his throat. He moved back and looked sideways, but stopped when something caught his eye. He moved towards his bed and picked up one of his shirts that lay within the un-made bed. He turned it around in his hands for a few seconds before turning to you. You stood there, too embarrassed to move. You felt a heat rushing up your chest, around your neck and across your cheeks. You looked down at the floor, debating whether or not you should just run and never come back.
You saw Duke’s feet come in front of you and grab your hands, pulling you towards him. He lifted your head up so you would look at him.
“I missed you too.” He whispered. He leant forward and pressed his lips to yours, his hands cradling your face and pulling you closer. You ran your hands up his arms and across his shoulders, leaving them to rest there. He brought his hands down your body, pushing you down towards the bed. Momentarily, he stood above you, your bodies curving into each other perfectly. You laid backwards, Duke following you; propping himself above you with his hands. He stopped for a second and looked into your eyes. You kept eye contact as you reached up and pulled out his hair tie, letting his long hair fall down and into his face. You smiled and pushed it back, running your fingers through it. He returned the smile and bent back down to kiss you.
————————
You woke up the next morning to a bright light shining from the window in front you. You smiled at the water that gently lapped at the dock, and the seagulls that squwaked overhead. You stretched and turned over, turning to look at Duke who lay peacefully asleep beside you. His back was facing you, his hair messy and shoulders moving up and down gently. You put your hand out and softly traced the curve of shoulder and down his arm, and then pulled back; your fingers lightly brushing his hair as you did so. You took in a deep breath and pursed your lips into a smile.
“God, Duke Crocker. I love you.” You said so quietly, that even you could barely hear it. You stayed like that for a few moments before Duke stirred and turned around to face you.
“Morning.” You breathed, giving him a gentle smile.
“I love you too.” He said sleepily, bringing a hand up to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear. You inhaled sharply, your cheeks growing red.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for you to hear that.” You mumbled, putting a hand to your cheek to try cover your blush.
“Hey. Hey. Did you not hear what I said? I. Love. You.” He repeated, his hand reaching under the sheets and curling around your waist, bringing you closer. “I always have.” He says more quietly, brushing his nose against yours.

The Finder: Duke Crocker x Reader
Tumblr media
Tagging: @kmc1989 @trublu2u @aiko24k @magic-multicolored-miracle
Tumblr media
When you’d first turned up in Haven you’d called yourself a P.I, Duke knows better these days, the more appropriate term would be a ‘Finder’. You have an exceptional gift for locating missing people, it’s that that brought you to Haven in the first place.
You’d been on the trail of your friend Jim Delaney, a man who had simply stepped out of your life one day and vanished into thin air. You’d managed to track him all the way here to Maine.
Using your less than savoury connections you’d discovered that Duke had been the one to smuggle him out of Boston. Jim’s Trouble had started to manifest physically and he’d had to cash in a favour from an old friend to spirit him away. It was safer for everyone, Jim had told you when you’d showed up at the houseboat Duke had set him up with.
It's seeing your compassion that makes Duke realise that you’re something special. Jim’s Trouble had disfigured him, rendered him practically unrecognisable to the man you once knew. However that didn’t seem to faze you. When you realised he was getting sicker, that his affliction was terminal  you had set up yourself up in Haven and liquidating your business assets so that you could afford to make Jim more comfortable during his remaining few months.
“Who is he to you?” Duke had asked one night when the two of you were walking alongside each other on the beach. “Why come all the way out here to find him? Why choose to stay?”
“He’s my friend.” You say simply. “He gave me a chance when nobody else would.”
He’s doesn’t quite understand what that means until the night Jim passes away. The two of you are sipping from a forty year old single malt that he  would have loved when you find yourself telling Duke how Jim saved you.
“I was living on the streets trying to escape a bad situation. I left with the clothes on my back and a couple of dollars I’d managed to take from my boyfriend’s wallet.” You tell him as you lay on a blanket, staring up at the stars. “I couldn’t go to the shelter because I knew he would find me so I started sleeping rough, trying to stay one step ahead of him until I could find a way to earn that wasn’t…”
You trail off then and Duke’s fingers thread through yours because he’s had to do some pretty terrible things to survive and now he knows you have too. He doesn’t judge you for it. He’s just glad you’re out of that situation, that you’re safe.
“He hired Jim to find you didn’t he?” he says into the darkness.
“Yea.” You say softly. “Jim, he took one look at the bruises, the doorway I was sleeping in, the clothes I was wearing…”
“And he saw you.” Duke says knowingly because Jim, he had done something similar for him just after Simon Crocker had died. He had been a lonely, messed up kid when Jim had taken him under his wing, helped him find his feet.
“He got me out of the city, set me up with a new identity, a job, a life.” You say softly, your voice breaking just a little. “He didn’t want anything, he didn’t expect anything, he just did it…”
“That’s who he was.” Duke says quietly as he shifts onto his side, propping his head up on his arm. “He couldn’t stand to see someone in distress, he couldn’t help himself…”
You turn to face him and he can see the agony in your eyes because Jim, he was a more than just a friend to you, he was a mentor, a father figure, the man who saved your life.
Without him you’re alone in the world all over again and Duke knows how hard that is, how untethered and isolated it makes you feel. His thumb ghosts over your cheek, chasing away the tears that stain your cheeks. He’s known you for just four months but already it feels like a life time.
“We’re gonna take care of each other alright?” He whispers to you as his forehead comes to rest upon yours. “It’s you and me, no matter what happens. We’ll take care of each other.”
The two of you stay up, swapping stories about Jim into the early hours of the morning. You laugh, you cry and finally you fall asleep curled up against Duke, your head resting on his chest as you listen to the sound of his heartbeat. He draws the blanket up around your shoulders, tucking it around your body as he holds you close. You’re gone when he awakens, the scent of your perfume and the sea clinging to his skin.
You don’t come back for three weeks and when you do it's one in the morning.
He’s asleep when you let yourself into his bedroom, he wakes up to the aroma of jasmine and sunshine, it floods his senses as you join him underneath the covers. He thinks he’s dreaming at first but his dreams, they’re never this sweet.
“Tell me you’ve missed me.” You whisper as you strip off your shirt and his calloused palms chase over your bare skin.
“I have thought about you every damn day.” He murmurs into the curve of your throat as he helps you undress.
He makes love to you that night, his lips trailing over your naked form as the sound of the waves crash in his ears.
When he wakes up it’s to an empty bed. He sighs, burying his face into your pillow because this isn’t one of his usual one night affairs. He actually cares about you, the feelings he has, they’ve been there since the day you turned up on his boat peppering him with questions about Jim.
When he steps out onto his deck that morning he doesn’t expect to see you sitting there, wearing one of his shirts and a pair of his boots. You’re perched in his chair, sipping tea from a chipped mug and reading one of those mystery novels that you love so much.
Haven, he thinks as he lingers in the doorway, the edges of his mouth turning into a smile. It just has this way of giving people what they need, especially when they least expect it.

Five with Duke Crocker Please!!!
Prompts:
“We should do what they did in Edinburgh.”
“Which was?”
“Anyone who got sick got bricked into their home and left to die.”
“Oh... no, we aren’t doing that.”
Tumblr media
“What’s the point of being quarantined in my own boat if I can’t even sail it?”
You give out a giggle at Duke’s words, your lips letting go of the straw you were slurping your drink from to give him a grin. “A little cranky today?”
“It’s not fair!” Your lips stretch out onto your cheeks as he walks back and forth in front of you, the man bored out of his mind and awfully frustrated. “You went to get groceries without me! It was my only chance to get out of this boat and you took it from me!”
“Because if Nathan sees you even step off this boat, he’s gonna arrest you.” You take another sip of your drink before continuing. “Plus, if you went with me, it would have risen the risks of people getting sick.”
He gives you a dramatic expression. “Are you saying I’m sick?”
You chuckle. “No… but your cockiness would have made people wish they were.”
“Haha.” He gives you a hard smile. “Very funny.”
“You’re welcome.”
His eyes widen in the realization of something and he suddenly sits down in front of you, pointing a finger at you and grinning. “We should do what they did in Edinburgh.”
You quirk an eyebrow at that, not sure you’ve even heard of that place in your entire life. “Which was?”
He claps his hands together while his grin widens. “Anyone who was sick got bricked into their homes and left to die.”
“...oh.” You notice him wiggling his eyebrows at you to try and convince you of his idea, which only makes you roll your eyes. “No, we are not doing that.”
“Awn, come on!” You can’t help but snort when he throws his arms in the air in desperation. “If I have to be trapped in here for weeks, what am I supposed to do to not become insane?”
Your lips stretch out into a smirk. “I have a few ideas.”
He looks back at you at the tone of your voice, a smug coming to his lips just as he understands what you’re hinting at. “Oh yeah?”
“Hm-hm…” Your smirk widens when he approaches his face to yours. “Wanna get your ass beaten at Rummy?”
He blinks multiple times as he tries to understand your words, a laugh escaping your throat just as he gives out a sigh and lowers his head.
“You… are such a tease!” You just continue to giggle, his eyes looking back at you with something resembling adoration. “You’re lucky I love you.”
“Oh, Duke… if anyone’s lucky here, it’s you.”
He gives out a chuckle. “That is true.” He takes your free hand in his, gently pulling on your arm as he stands up. “Now come here.”
“Fine…” You let go of your drink and let him pull off your chair. “But only because I think you’re adorable.”
You give his lips a quick peck just as you throw your arms around his neck, his lips stretching out into a grin. “I’m the adorable one, huh?”
“Just shut up.”
